We, too, just watched GAMBIT a couple of days ago.  I had never seen it past the "twist" section of the first half hour and it was fun to finally see the whole thing.  I did of course guess the final little joke well before it arrived.  I agree about Neame--a highly underrated director.  I still love his SCROOGE best out of all the CHRISTMAS CAROL adaptations.

Well the store will open at 11 a.m. today and close if no one comes around....but my sister told me to just stay home.  So I did.

I cleared my driveway....which wasn't too bad until I got to the street where the snow plow had gone by several times and dumped a lot of HEAVY DIRTY snow there.....I had to shovel about half the street in front of my driveway too.

He also helped keep the disaster picture THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE afloat and interesting. It still ranks as my favorite of those disaster epics of the 1970s.

Well, it's much later than I was hoping for being able to finish my internet stuff this morning, so I'll head down and see if I can't squeeze in a couple of TV shows before I start work on MARY MOORE.

I like the story that Michael Caine tells on a TCM filler.....he is making a movie on location soon after ALFIE had made him an international name.....he was walking down the hallway at the hotel, and Cary Grant comes down the hall in the opposite direction....Caine says he couldn't think of anything to say....so he just said:  "You're Cary Grant!"

He says Grant replied softly, "I know."

Well, it could have been Cary Grant playing Cary Grant playing Cary Grant.  ;)

(That's a little inside joke just for JR).

Indeed....I keep thinking how awful the clothes and hair were in WTRBAM....and Susan was just so wrong.  With ALL the top actresses who wanted to do it, how did SHE end up with the property?

I fondly remember seeing Mr. Grant at Dodger games where he'd sit in the dugout with Tommy Lasorda.

A friend of mine once ran into him on a studio backlot and said, "Mr. Grant, I just want you to know how much watching your movies have given me."  Grant replied:  "You must stay up very late."

In about ninety minutes I'll go get the manuscript Xeroxed and spiral bound.  In order to spiral bind it we have to print double-sided because they don't have a spiral big enough for 528 pages.

I would say very few people would make a trifecta out of the Super Bowl, the Oscars and the Tonys.

OTOH, the whole Golden Boy era seems better (at least IMHO), and at least we don't have Dr. Frankenstein with his icepick in this version.

Perhaps I'll start another book.  I am in the mode.  I do have a new Hofstetter in my head.  Maybe come March or April - we'll see how I feel.

Today's wonderful email department:

Greetings,

Please excuse me for all the inconveniences my mail could cause you. I have the pleasure to expose to you my predicaments.  Please even if we never knew before, I believe firmly that on the basis of the right of humanitarian assistance that a real confidence and love can arise from our communication. I was told by the doctor few days ago that my liver was damaged beyond control as a result of poisonous food my step mother served me and can only live for some months.

I believe my step mother out of her selfish greed wanted me dead by all means because she did not have a child for my late father and that was why he willed his deposited treasures to me as the only daughter.

Because of her plight, I have decided to donate a reasonable part of this treasure to churches, mosques and charitable organizations. The reason is that my late father never wanted me to live in Africa that was why he instructed them never to release this treasure to me here.

As soon as I receive your response I will explain further and send you my personal documents legalizing the treasures; on the other hand if I don't hear from you within two or three days, I will be left with no option than to look for another person who is willing to execute my wish.

Remain blessed as I wish you accomplish my wish. Pray for me always.

Sincerely,

Janet Cohen

One of the better parts--Her email address has "Cohen" misspelled, her "nickname" is "Miss Janet Cohen," but the email subject says "Ms. Janny Cohne".  Whoops.

All of the punctures in my arms to draw blood yesterday have turned into ugly bruises.

When I was in the ER 2 weeks ago, this &$@* nurse, before I could object, took blood out of my wrist, rather than my elbow.

It hurt like hell and I still have a bruise there.

Saturday morning greetings!  We are snowed in.  Fr. Richard has already had a call from his senior warden in Lima and they made the decision to cancel services for tomorrow.

I'm glad you won't be driving tomorrow.

All of the punctures in my arms to draw blood yesterday have turned into ugly bruises.

When I had my Cardiac Cath, the team had a grand time exploring for veins that would work. After the procedure (which included dosing with anti-coagulants) I was resting on a gurney and attempted to sit up to adjust my position. In the process I pulled off a whole stream of bandages that ran down my arm; this resulted an a rather spectcular display of spouting streams of life force - it looked like my arm had been run over by a combine.

der Brucer

The good news was that I was so distracted by the vein-fumbling that I never noticed the actual catheterization.
