bk, I'm still looking for episode 1 of THE SOPRANOS. So far, it hasn't surfaced on any HBO channels. Do you want me to hold the DVDs until the entire nine episodes are done, or send them to you as I complete each disc?

Things have slowed to a crawl.  Is everyone taking a siesta?

Actually, BK, yes!  I did take a nap.

Well, it was easy to catch up this time, but I have absolutely nothing of value to say.

"The world is a rhomboid without a circumference
And nobody knows what this simile means"

That's from the Mad satire Least Horizon.  Funny, there's a hilarious lyric line in LEGALLY BLONDE about metaphors that seems to be a reference to that Mad parody line :)  - got big laughs the first week of previews, not a titter in the child-laden audience yesterday.

I don't know if O'Keefe and Benjamin actually knew they were referencing Mad, but I just thought they were.

LEGALLY BLONDE SPOILER

The metaphor reference is in the zanily silly "Ireland" number.

Heading down now to clean the bedroom areas and then settle in to finish A MAN FOR ALL SEASONS before prime time TV kicks in.

Just finished reading a delightful book, Jacqueline Winspear's

Maisie Dobbs

It's the first in a series of 4 mysteries set in England between the World Wars.  The title character was a nurse in WW I and becomes a detective.

I am noticing that the light switches in the bathroom are very old and ugly. And the light fixture.

Oh no! More snowball effect!

I've loved seeing all those great H/K photos from M&F--thanks, MBarnum!

Also, the butterfly-in-progress, blooming passion flower.

And of course, dear handsome Jose with the luminaries!

I drove all the way to Panorama City (a frightenning place, by the way)

Is this why page 4 is in Cinemascope?

Speaking of Kander & Ebb, and with the notes being about new mown hay, Ebb's adorable line from THE ACT:  "New mown hay gives me hay fever."

From Kander and Ebb's "City Lights" from THE ACT:

New mown hay gives me hay fever.
There's the rooster, where's my cleaver?
So laid back, my mind might crack,
and when the thresher's up my pressure's up.

I must confess that I heard that third line as "So laid back, I mind my crack" the first time I heard it in the theater.  :)

Match the hypothetical post to the DR...

I love that idea!

DR der Brucer - this first book had a lot of back story.  I'm looking forward to reading books 2, 3, and 4 to see if they seem a little less expository.

DR Cillaliz:

I'm going to be in Fairmont, MN.  Which is right on Iowa's northern border.  I'm just not sure where in Iowa you are.Unless you're a Fiddler?

And...speaking of footbridges...

What happened to that occasional breakfast acquaintance of yours?  We haven't heard anything in several weeks.   :)

I grew up fairly close to Fairmont.  I'm about 3 hours or so from there.  When and how long will you be there?

For the RECORD, Dear Ones:

My page 4 post (i.e. #98) did not put "me" into Cinemascope.  I had no idea what folks were talking about.

The hints about the post # didn't register, either.  Just come out and tell me, "Ron, your damned graphics have the rest of us in Cinemascope...can you please reduce the size!?

And I shall happily oblige one and all.

DR Cillaliz - the conference you're going to in Florida sounds like a great way to start the new phase of your career.

I sincerely hope she doesn't find herself going all these GREAT places if she isn't going to have some personal time to enjoy it.

I'm guessing the conference site of Disneyworld was selected so that spouses/kids might be able to travel.  I think that's cool....to an extent.

All work and no play makes EVERYONE a dull girl or boy....or other.
