Well, you've read the notes, the notes were exhausted, and now it is time for you to post until the exhausted cows come home - they quite enjoyed The Alan MOOnken Album.

Good morning, all! Last night was a night of spectacularly weird dreams. I've forgetten the first, which I swear lasted most of the night, but it was about a song that kept playing over and over again. I don't remember now what the hell the song was. Then, I dreamed I was Barbra Streisand's personal sssistant; she and her husband were attending some Miami University choir event(!) - I am not making this up, DR FJL! - and I preferred to stay in the parking garage, looking for a vacuum to sweep the floor of the rental car and keeping track of her appointments. I remember walking to a gas station a block from the garage in pursuit of avacuum and I rememebr that the dread Bes-Arlene (a pretentious soprano at Miami U) was also floating about this dream.

This morning, barber at 10am. More Herbert edits to finish the score for the copyists.

TOD: I still want a kitten; with the Toyland job on hiatus, my schemes are askew.

The most bizarre part of this dream is that I am not a Streisand fan.

Off to work.  Oh well.

DR ELMORE your dream is very complicated and demonstrates that sometimes your work is undone by untalented or demanding performers - even though you specifically tailor it to their limited talents.

I agree with Druxy that it is painful to talk about former pets, sometimes even more than former friends. I had a cat named Benjamin Stone who was very dear to me and my first pet was a dog named Rocky. Both were wonderful animals, and i miss them very much.

I do love my cockatoo, J.B., even when he's screaming at me or dropping bombs on the carpet.

As for the Topic of the Day...

Well...

My brothers and I had goldfish and hamsters and gerbils growing up... Alas, those types of pets aren't really known for their longevity, so...

We did have two dogs. One - and I can't even remember the name or breed - lasted only a few days in our household: that was when my mom discovered that she was allergic to dogs. Well, at least their dander. So, dog #2 came along: a poodle. Her name was Princess. Alas, she was a "princess" in name only. She was yappy and hyper - which poodles tend to be - but she also had a tendency to dig under our backyard fence and run away and/or around the neighborhood. She also got very aggressive around African-Americans. Very aggressive. And after she bit one of our neighbor's kids for the second time, well... -My mom had picked up Princess from the pound, and we guessed that she had most likely had been mistreated by her previous owners. I believe Princess stayed with us for two months before my Mom brought her back to the pound. It was just too hard to take good care of her with two parents working full-time and four boys - ages 6-9 - being, well, ages 6-9.

Otherwise...

As much as I love the cuteness of my friends' pets, I'm really not much of a pet/animal person. However, I think that's mainly due to the fact that I know with my ever-changing, ever-unpredictable schedule, there's just know way I could properly take care of a pet.

Oh...

When I arrived at my brother's place on Tuesday afternoon, noticed that there was only one dog here, Sugar. Sometimes the other one stays with Alex and her mom. Well, it turned out that they had to put Jax - Jumping Jack Flash - down back in January, just after the New Year. :( But Jax had a good long life - 16 years.

Alas, even though my brother thinks Sugar has been fine since Jax died, I'm definitely noticing some weird behavior. And I'm guessing my presence back in the house for a few days is also confusing her a bit.

I have friends with a cat in his 20s. Bob is a great animal. He knows he's old and he lords it over the other cats.. If you stop petting him in a place he likes, he knocks your hand with his nose until you resume petting him.

On check in the hotel didn't have the frig they promised for my injection pen.  Eventually they found one after I asked again, before my ice packs. Thawed.  Since the frig did not have a freezer the put the cold packs in the hotel freezer.  After the problems at check in we didn't trust th so yesterday I confirmed the packs were in the feezer and was promised they were.  Guess what they gave me at check out.......completely thawed ice packs.

When we stopped for gas there was a problem the manager had to fix.  It turns out his wife is diabetic and that is the only hotel they have ever had a problem with.  I have never commented on trip advisor, however, I plan to place a warning regarding the Del Mar/San Diego Hilton.

Maybe it's radiation from Japan.

Jeez, the Republican party has me pissed off tonight, trying to sneak in an anti-abortion act as part of their "attempt" not to close the government down this week. As someone who lived through a period of illegal abortion and who knew at least three lovely women who went through the process, one nearly dying in the procedure, I can only hope that these asses who don't believe it's a woman's choice suffer greatly at some point from their decision.

Back from the LACC meeting - apparently arts departments are now having to justify every single thing in their curriculum and now require said arts departments to have a meeting with an appointed board (which I guess I'm now on) of professionals who listen and give suggestions.  As always happens at these sorts of things, two or three people end up doing all the talking (of the professionals) and it's usually all about them rather than the business at hand.  I, in fact, did not open my mouth once until the final minute of the meeting.

All the news I can find on Carin's accident is focused on Daniel Okulitch, the Canadian baritone in the car with her.

Apparently, Daniel posted a note on his Facebook page about the accident. I just called a mutual friend of ours, and even though she didn't have all the details, all she had heard was that Daniel was going to be in a brace for at least 8 weeks. An elderly gentleman lost control of his car and hit their car head-on going at 70mph. Thankfully, Carin and Daniel were not killed. -And that's about all I know.

When I walking along The National Mall earlier today, there were a lot - and I mean A LOT - of school groups going in and out of the various Smithsonian museums. It looks like I'll be furloughed Monday.

You and several of my LoC friends.

When I walking along The National Mall earlier today, there were a lot - and I mean A LOT - of school groups going in and out of the various Smithsonian museums. Many of them were visiting Washington, DC, for the week, and some of them had adjusted their plans just in case the government does shut down this weekend.
Did you have to pepper spray any of them?

Nope.

I prefer a taser.

Thank you, DR FJL - we're OK - really.  Tomorrow I'm taking off to Akron for the weekend (AAUW Ohio convention) and Richard and Rob are going to Sinclair Community College for Rob's firefighter pinning.  I just gave them my camera, so there should be some pictures when I get back on Sunday.  My travel plans, involving several other people, were already in place when Rob told us about this event day before yesterday.  Fortunately, we already have his June 11 paramedic graduation on the calendars.

One of the results of Monday's dinner and learning about the fall of the New York State Theatre Institute is that I started going through the contact sheets for the shows I scored for them and seeing who's on Facebook. I added several new friends today. My beloved Laura Krause, my intern on A TALE OF CINDERELLA, is a stage manager for the Washington Opera in DC, so I hope I see her next time I'm in DC. Child actor Ben Golub, whose parents were wonderful friends, is grown up and living in Fredonia, and Dominic Fallacaro, who was the smallest and most adorable little boy in the ensemble of THE SNOW QUEEN (I think everyone in the production wanted to adopt him and carry him around), is a working musician in Brooklyn. I just ordered his CD. Dominic and I just exchanged emails and we'll hopefully get together soon.

I am so happy for all of them. I'm still waiting to hear from others.

Today was another very crazy and good day.   I don't know what's up, but this week we've had a lot of new clients and people who came in a few weeks ago for consults have come back to hire us.   So it's craziness for Edith and I.  I am very happy about it and trying to get organized enough to keep on top of things.   I was working at home tonight, which is why I haven't been posting.   Funny how things turned around the minute I changed my attitude about it.

I saw the last revival on an Easter Sunday that was one of the most lavish afternoons of theater I've ever seen. I've never seen ovations stop a show before, but this one did. And I'm glad it's back doing the same magic all over again.

What I said in the last minute, after listening to everyone pontificate about how they need to prepare people for getting work after they leave the department, was that I found it peculiar that so few of these students bother to show up at our LACCTAA events, where they would a) learn about these things from top professionals, and b) meet these professionals who someday might just hire them.
