TOD

Louise Fletcher ...  Nurse Mildred Ratched  in One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest

My revulsion of the character carried over to the performer and I had difficulty watching Ms Fletcher as late as her turn in the DEEP SPACE NINE series.

Steamer trunks.  He thinks he's traveling with Johnny Weismuller in the 1930s!

Let me see if I can remember....would that make him Lupe Velez?

I must say i'm really enjoying these past episodes of STUDIO 60 and can't wait to see tonight's final episode.

I'm also very curious to see who the bottom 3 couples will be on SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE.  I really loved hok and jamie last night. But part of that was the choregraphy.

In some ways it's so unfair that certain couples get brilliant routines while others get merely average ones.

I must say though, i was really choked up at Cedric's tears. I do like him. And same with dominic. Wow. I can't believe how well he is doing.

Also i thought the whole thing with pasha and  jessi so weird.  He had to dance with some other lady. And no matter what jessi has to dance to stay (if she is able)???

Btw, i did not like the krump routine (sara and jesus). I do not like him very much. I love anya and danny.

The eagle has landed.  I guess I won't see any of that $3 million I took out on his flight yesterday. Why do the bad things always happen to me?

Steamer trunks....or more like foot lockers?

Since it's Barnum, I'd suspect "See Chests".

TIME TO BUY A COW?

Quote
Milk Prices Could Soar to $5 a Gallon by Summer's EndThursday , June 28, 2007

By Catherine Donaldson-Evans

Come fall, when the kids head back to school, Mom and Dad are likely to find that a gallon of milk for cereal will cost them more than the gas that got them to the store to buy it.

The national average price for the calcium-rich drink that "does a body good" could hit a record $5 a gallon by September, MarketWatch reported Tuesday. The current average price is about $3.50 a gallon nationally, say dairy experts. That's more than the current national average gas price, which is $2.975 a gallon, according to AAA.

High fuel prices, drought and a spike in the cost of feed and dairy operations are all kicking up the price of the frothy, white beverage. Booming international sales and last year's lower farm milk prices, which slowed its production in the United States, are adding to the soaring costs.

And the word of the day is: CELERITY!

A handy rhyme for "This is the consequence
Of ill-advised asperity!"

GA SOLUTION TO PRISON OVER-CROWDING

Quote
States Handed Out Poisoned Toothpaste

By WALT BOGDANICH,
The New York Times
Posted: 2007-06-28 11:37:25

(June 28) - After federal health officials discovered last month that tainted Chinese toothpaste had entered the United States, they warned that it would most likely be found in discount stores.

In fact, the toothpaste has been distributed much more widely. Roughly 900,000 tubes containing a poison used in some antifreeze products have turned up in hospitals for the mentally ill, prisons, juvenile detention centers and even some hospitals serving the general population.

The toothpaste was handed out in dozens of state institutions, mostly in Georgia but also in North Carolina, according to state officials. Hospitals in South Carolina and Florida also reported receiving Chinese-made toothpaste, and a major national pharmaceutical distributor said it was recalling tainted Chinese toothpaste.

The Food and Drug Administration has advised consumers to discard all Chinese-made toothpaste, regardless of the brand.

State officials in Georgia and North Carolina said all the tainted tubes were being replaced with brands made outside China. The officials said there had been no reports of illnesses caused by the toothpaste.

TV GUIDE did a survey back in the late 80s-early 90s of TV productions, and Angela Lansbury came out #1 as far as confidential comments on her professionalism, loyalty, consideration, etc. I've rarely heard much of anything negative spoken about her.

I'm not surprised. She was known as a very caring, compassionate person on the set. After the Northridge earthquake she showed great concern for all who worked with her.

She also came backstage after a production I was in at Bluth Brothers Theatre and was quite kind with her comments. (Of course we WERE good!)

I just had a scare. I couldn't find my set of guest keys, so I thought maybe I could rig a rope to the fire escape for DR MBarnum who would have to climb down it holding his luggage in his teeth.  However amusing I thought it could be for the neighbors, I decided to keep looking.  I just found them.

Unfortunate news about

Beverly Sills

That's sad news about Ms Sills. I remember seeing her in a performance of GIULIO CESARE, the opera that made her a star, at the Cincinnati May Festival.  She tossed off ornamentation as if it were the easiest thing in the world and took her bows with a bet-you-can't-do-what-I-just-did! attitude. I loved her sense of humor and I remember a story she told on Dick Cavet's show, as I recall, about her touring days as "Americas' third string opera company star" and her recitals for local music clubs. She said she performed in a small town in Kansas where the new was published once a week. On the cover page there were two photos; under a photo of a dead cow the caption read "Beverly Sills sings tonight," and under her photo, the blurb read "Stinking smut invades Kansas."

DR MAttH:  Regarding your query as to what other titles Fox might put in a Bette Davis box -- "Payment on Demand".

They might also repackage "Hush, Hush Sweet Charlotte" and "The Nanny" for such a box.

I thought PAYMENT ON DEMAND was RKO. Wouldn't that put it under Warners' domain? Don't know; just asking.

Right you are.  It looks like they couldn't do much of a box at Fox unless they repackaged already-released stuff, too.
