Today, my niece is going to Seattle to participate in a NOH8 Open Photo Shoot (http://www.noh8campaign.com/event/open-photo-shoot-in-seattle-wa). My sister and her friends are getting together to celebrate the birthday of one of them, and I will see a movie and have lunch with my friend Margo and her friend Marsha, whose birthday is also today. :)
Tomorrow, the family is all getting together at my sister's house to celebrate my birthday, which is actually today.

TOD:
THE BEAST FROM 20,000 FATHOMS
-
By George it should be a happy birthday!
Got a half hour for some cherished sit-down time and coffee beforest heading out to the Saturday movie.
-
TOD: First sci-fi movie. Oh my. Sci-fi. Let me think.
Since it's lately been posted about hither and yon (especially yon), "Journey to the Center of the Earth" has been on my mind, and I well remember being taken to it at age ten. Not really sci-fi, of course.
I remember my first "King Kong" on late night television, and "House of Wax" on afternoon (black-and-white) television. Still not sci-fi, damn it.
So, first sci-fi. Ah!! Maybe "Donovan's Brain" on TV?
Still thinking.
-
Happy Birthday, George!
-
Let's go to Page Two, shall we?

As If By Wizardry-YES-Page 2

Good morning, all! I did indeed sleep late, and a side of me wishes I'd stayed in bed longer than 9am. I'm going to ignore the laundry and the printing mess today and focus on cleaning up this apartment, and I may finish the last work needed to be done on on the full scores for ROBERTA. I also have the last act of the EILEEN Libretto to type by Monday. I've now collected all the EILEEN singers' biographies except for Philip O'Reilly, our Col. Lester, and our conductor David.
I also need to move my apartment furniture around and get the AC ready for summer, but I fea with my current back situation, I need to hire some sherpas. I need vibes for the office, the lousy printer, my back, etc. Is there a Mayo Clinic for vibes? I need 'em all.
-
And there's even a HAPPY BIRTHDAY GEORGE video that's been waiting for today: :)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQuwjdhLHWk
No doubt the Hill Estate has already filed an injunction against that video.

Re: BONNIE AND CLYDE. I was a kid when the Beatty-Dunaway movie came out, but I loved the Ballad of Bonnie and Clyde. We were at the music store one day picking up sheet music for my piano lessons, and that music was there and I asked my mother for it. She got *very* upset (as only my Mother could) and refused, saying, "I'm not going to support a film that glorifies violence the way that one does." Of course, she hadn't seen it or anything like that. :)

Hello, goodbye
-
Cinco de Mayo greetings! It's kind of gloomy here in SW Ohio today, which allowed me to sleep 'til 9am.
-
Happiest of birthdays to DR George!

I'm up, the sun is shining, and she of the Evil Eye should be here soon.

I'm ready to move about and accomplish things.
And about time, too!

Happy Birthday George!

Did the four-mile jog (haven't done that long in ages), did errands and whatnot, picked up one little package but not the way errant and truant one, and am now home and can relax and do a few things before our three o'clock rehearsal.
-
What movie do you plan to see on your special day, George?
"The Pirates! Band of Misfits" in 3-D! :D
-
Thanks for all the Birthday Wishes! I'm off to the movies right now and will ketchup later!

I am back and greatly relieved. Yesterday afternoon I had an appointment with our primary care physician because my left leg and ankle had been hurting and swelling for a couple of weeks. With my history of blood clots, of course I was concerned. The doctor didn't think I had a blood clot, but scheduled an ultrasound of both legs for today, just to be on the safe side. Both legs are clear, so Richard and I went out to lunch to celebrate.
The doctor also ordered me to buy a new pair of shoes for my cardio walking to replace the worn out Easy Spirits I've been wearing. He thinks the pain in my ankle is tendonitis.
-
Happy Birthday, DR George!
-
Glad to hear your news, DR Ginny!
-
It's been a productive day with reports and other job-related work. I took a short walk about two hours ago, and I'm rady to work on some ROBERTA scores.
-
I gotta tell you. Rehearsal shortly then Dan Tana's!!! I'm listening to the Mahler 10th first movement on my new computer speakers - sounds great - these are Harmon Kardon speakers and look like clear plastic dildos with speakers visible inside - it has a small subwoofer and they're just what I had to have as the only time now that I have to listen to masters and other music is on the computer. I had little Bose speakers, but they were REALLY not to my liking and didn't really reflect sound correctly. These new ones are very detailed and rich for such small speakers, and a little of the subwoofer gives you just the right amount of bass boost.
-
How do you know they're NOT clear plastic dildos?
-
Thanks, DR KevinH!

Buy some good jogging shoes that support your entire body properly.
I am very glad you don't have blood clots!!!

Keith didn't feel Sherlock should go for a hike today and I thought he should. Now that we have gone I still think I was right. I'm not sure Keith agrees.

Good. Remember jogging shoes are usually better than walking shoes even for just walking.
-
That's great news DR Ginny!
-
We are taking care of the grand pets this weekend even though Craig knows we aren't spending much time with them. Yogi is still happier locked in his bedroom than in a kennel and Craig took him for a long walk this morning.
-
Hello, everyone.
-
Happy Cinco de Mayo to all!
-
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO DR GEORGE!!
May you have a delightful day!
-
Glad to hear DR Ginny's good news. A good pair of shoes may not be enough--you may also need better insoles that the ones in the shoes.
-
I had never heard of Dan Tana's. I looked at their website. OMG!! I see why BK never suggested we go there. I hope it's yummy.
-
Vibes to all who need them.
-
I had never heard of Dan Tana's. I see why BK never suggested we go there.
Are you referring to the prices or the menu?
-
Craig made cole slaw last night. I teased him for adding chives but must admit it is very tasty. Thing is, I was only permitted one little taste as he has to take it to work on Monday. The teacher's aids are doing a special lunch for the teachers.
-
Glad to hear DR Ginny's good news. A good pair of shoes may not be enough--you may also need better insoles that the ones in the shoes.
Thanks, DR Jeanne. Fleet Feet's website makes reference to inserts being important, too.
-
I can only wear Saucony's ProGrid Hurricane.
-
I wonder how DR George's birthday is going?
-
I am congested. Too bad. I think it was supposed to be a nice day this afternoon. I took my niece to soccer at noon. But afterwards come home and went to sleep.
-
I did see a lot of people biking at around 1pm. So i'm guessing it was very nice out.
-
Update on the bird's nest. I wonder if the babies are coming soon. Because the mommy bird seems to be in the nest much of the time.
-
I am watching the dvd THE HELP. Very good so far. But i'm glad i have it on dvd. Because i don't like sitting for so long in a row.
-
I did stop it to watch the Kentucky Derby.
-
Homemade coleslaw sounds good.
-
My niece does summer soccer. But my sister had put her in indoor winter soccer. Anyhow they did not have enough younger kids so they had put her with the 7-8 year olds. But this week (and many others) they put that class with the older kids 8-9-10.
My sister was not happy about this. Because it is very tough when you are 6 and the other kids are much older and better. And they had boys who were playing very roughly.
-
This is the first time i've gone when she's played with the older kids. Anyhow the coach separted the girls and the boys. There were 3 girls playing against 3 girls. But the other two girls on my niece's team did not pass to her at all.
So at the water break i went over to them (their moms were there). And i told them my niece was feeling bad and asked as nice as i could if they would mind passing to her so she could feel part of the team.
The moms agreed and sort of chewed them out for not doing this earlier. Not sure why i had to do this (vs the coach). But at least after that they passed on every play. :)
-
I guess I will finish THE HELP now.
-
I really wanted to read. For some reason a lot of books have come for me from the library at the same time. Right now i have 6. I don't like having so many library books at once. Especially since i have 2 netgalley books i am dying to read.
And i haven' t read anything since i've been feeling under the weather. I think tomorrow i will try to spend a good part of the day reading.
-
I just watched a good episode of Sherlock Holmes on PBS, titled "The Resident Patient" with Jeremy Brett. Quite entertaining!
-
I'm guessing i won't fall asleep too early since i had a nap. I could not keep my eyes open. I feel really fatigued. :(
But the weird thing is my throat hurts on and off. Right now it doesn't hurt at all.
-
I won a gift card (which i didn't receive yet) to Chapters. It's the big bookstore chain in Canada. They sell online like amazon. But also have tons of actual huge bookstores.
Anyhow they sent a big booklet in the mail today for Mother's Day. And they had the prices of some books listed in there. And the prices seemed really high. Then I went online to their website and noticed that the prices of books are much cheaper there. Like a $20 book online was $15.
I never realized that they were charging so much more in the stores. I guess they want to have some incentive for people ordering online. Do they do the same sort of thing at Barnes and Noble?
-
Now i'm going to watch MY WEEK WITH MARILYN. I'm looking forward to it.
-

I didn't notice it was long.

Homemade coleslaw sounds good.
I would like to eat some of it too. I told him he didn't buy enough cabbage to make enough. Even so, I thought it would make more than it did. If we make it to the market tomorrow I'll pick up more ingredients to make more. He's going to a baseball game before driving home from San Francisco so I doubt he will be home early enough to make it unless he gets us very early Monday morning which I seriously doubt. I'm sure he would stay up tomorrow night except our makeshift bedroom is next to the kitchen.
-

That was very nice of them. Had it been father's they might have told you it is about winning.
Like your sister I would be unhappy with the changes. If my kid wasn't happy I would ask for a refund.

The prices might be up for Mother's Day. Watch for sales after, at least on books women are more likely to purchase. You do have Father's Day as we do?

Hi TCB! How are you today?
-
TOD: Late in the day
Introduction to SCI FI was via Rocky Jones Space Ranger, a thrice weekly television series.
First SciFi movie - FORBIDDEN PLANET at the Center Brook Drive In. I do not remember what the other feature was, but I think it was a western.......otherwise my father would never have taken us to the drive in the first place.
-
Nine guests have hit the road since I arrived at HHW.

I've been asked to install the new Middletown AAUW officers at our dinner meeting on Monday evening. We use a script that was very antiquated and harder and harder to read each year without giggling. It was also too long. The board gave me permission to revise it, which I've done this evening. Taking out a lot of hyperbole and incorporating the flower ceremony into the body of the script, I've managed to reduce it from 5 pages to 4. Wonder if anyone will notice?
-
Now i'm going to watch MY WEEK WITH MARILYN. I'm looking forward to it.
I'm listening to the audiobook, narrated by Simon Prebble, and enjoying it very much. Looking forward to your report on the movie.
-
I am watching the dvd THE HELP. Very good so far. But i'm glad i have it on dvd. Because i don't like sitting for so long in a row.

I think it's like 2 1/2 hours.

Like your sister I would be unhappy with the changes. If my kid wasn't happy I would ask for a refund.
The weird part is these girls are quite good. But for some reason they don't score much. They have good control of the ball. And they can steal it from the other team. But they were barely scoring.
The coach has done some exercises in the past where he encouraged passing (you had to pass to all players on your team before you could score). But he should have talked to the girls. I shouldn't have had to do that.
The thing is it wasn't a real game so i don't think fathers would have said anything different necessarily. I could see if they were really playing. But the thing is my niece would never be on their team. Her summer team is only for kids born in her year (so she will actually kids that are in kindergarten but born in oct/nov/dec).
-
I am currently obsessed with the Hank Levine Orchestra, to whom I was introduced on this new comp of 1961 instrumental hits.
-
They had a huge hit in 1961 and yet I can't find one LP by them anywhere.

So, can anyone see the super Moon? We can see it out our kitchen window, but only through the trees.
I went to check. There are some dark clouds sort of in the way a bit. But it was very bright.
But the full effect is only supposed to happen at 11:54pm. I might check again later.
-
11:54pm is way too late for someone who has to get up at 5:30am on Sunday! Guess I'll miss the full effect...
-
Thanks, DR TCB!
I'm glad to see you here this evening!

we had a meal at the local diner with my brother and my folks unfortunately w were able to have as nice a conversation as we would have liked as shortly after we ordered a large extended family (about 20 people) was seated next to us and about 12 of those people were kids under the age of 6--- it was like sitting in the middle of a flock of geese- with my my parents hearing problems and my hearing loss conversation became just about impossible
-
still - the food was good
-
'night!

Good evening. You know it's not going to be a good day when Mike Bettes is on his tornado hunt just to the west of your town, lol. So far the storms have held off, but they are firing up in Nebraska so they aren't going to get here until after 1:00 AM. Oh joy
-
I was involved in a yard sale the past few days. a number of people took stuff to sell. Friday I bought a number of things, a nice solid oak drop leaf table for $20! and a number of other little things. I took my exercise trampoline over there, (the little kind) and it was gone in 5 minutes! i donated that money to Noah's Hope animal rescue. I came home last night and loaded up my car with stuff I never use, lots of small appliances, and just stuff. Lamps without shades etc. I think all but two or three things were gone by the end of the day. I'll admit I snuck off early before the clean-up. It was 92 degrees and all my stuff was gone. Anyway, they are taking everything left to the new thrift store that was opened to help fund Noah's Hope.
-
I think I made enough money to reimburse me for the things I bought....not sure, though, lol
-
I'll find out probably tomorrow. Since I wasn't there for clean up, I'll have to wait to get my money
-
It was in the 90s here today and only in the 60s just an hour or so north of here. No wonder Mike Bettes is in the area
-
Hot here today, too.
-
It was hot, but it felt really good to hang out at the garage sale. I sat in the shade on the porch and sipped on ice cold water. It kept me cool

Tonight I cleaned the kitchen. I've been so busy I just did the minimum necessary for too long. It's so much nicer now. I lifted up the top of the stove and cleaned under the burners etc. So much better

Had a good stumble-through although our boys are really struggling with their wordy songs. Damon has his first one down pat, and knows most of the second, but he had to refer to his lyrics for the third constantly. I told him to print them out and we'd see how sound check goes. We may just have to put them on the piano for that number. Our other fellow was glued to his lyrics on his iPad for all three songs - the funny thing is, if he'd just put that crutch away he'd probably know them fine. I told him to do whatever he needed to do between now and then because he really needs to know these. One of them he could conceivably do with a clipboard because we can make that make sense, but the other two - he's on his own, and one of the songwriters will be there so I think he understands the importance of buckling down Winsocki and getting this in his bones. Newcomers tend to think they can just slide along and they never understand that in the slightly over two weeks they have the material, they cannot waste a minute of that time. After they've done one show, they never do that again.

BK, so glad to hear things are going well for the show. Wish I could be there.

I wrote that after reading your facebook entry, hope the guys are ready in time!

Dinner at Dan Tana's was amazing. The look on Melody's face when she tasted both Caesar salad and spaghetti carbonara was priceless - like it was the best food she'd ever had. She could only finish half but took the other half home. Her father and I finished it all and her mom had some excellent chicken dish. The carbonara wasn't nearly as cream-heavy as I remembered - it was certainly truly filling and I feel like I'm going to explode, but it was actually really light in terms of whatever cream was used. It actually felt like it had more butter, but even that was light.

whihc makes me think of John G's sister - Vibes that her millstone is no longer giving her trouble
Congrats on the milestone. And thanks for asking. Linda will have to go back to the doctor's on Monday to have the stint removed. She had to pass the large stone that they couldn't find as well as the one that they broke up into pieces. So, she will be facing some pain in the near future.
-
I gave Melody her present, which she absolutely went bonkers for: 14 things of OPI nail polish, in all kinds of cool colors - fourteen because she's fourteen. Also a pink case for her make-up and all that stuff (she loves anything pink) and some really good-smelling lotion and soap that she went ape for.

The last of the guests have left. I have enough steak leftover to feed another group of people, but all seemed to go well.
The supermoon tonight is gorgeous. Sat outside at the end of the evening and watched the fireflies do their sparkly dance across the backyard.
-
I could use a steak right now
-
I should wander out and try to see the moon before the storm gets here to block it.
-
I'd sent it to you, Cillaliz, if I could.
-
Starting to watch "Man on Wire" for the first time in a few years. Love this documentary. Plays on all my fear of heights beautifully.
-
The birthday girl tonight is a friend from church. She celebrated her 40th birthday last year while stationed in Afghanistan. She said they were attacked the day after her birthday. I think she's much happier to be at home and among friends.
-
I think that's it for me. Night, all.

TOD:
The first science fiction movie that I remember seeing was QUEEN OF OUTER SPACE which I watched with my cousins Molly and Bobby at their house one night when I was about 5 years old.

Hope you had a most enjoyable birthday, DR George, and with plenty of cake!

Spent the day watching Japanese movies from the 1950s/60s.
The one that I enjoyed the most was a musical comedy titled COSMETIC SALES COMPETITION (1963). Unfortunately the dvd freezes and stops at the 70 minute mark. I am hoping that I can get a replacement.

DR JMK, I have been putting into my Amazon.com wish list several of these instrumental compilation CDs that you have been mentioning.

we had a meal at the local diner with my brother and my folks unfortunately w were able to have as nice a conversation as we would have liked as shortly after we ordered a large extended family (about 20 people) was seated next to us and about 12 of those people were kids under the age of 6--- it was like sitting in the middle of a flock of geese- with my my parents hearing problems and my hearing loss conversation became just about impossible
How frustrating. There wasn't another table for you?

Good evening. You know it's not going to be a good day when Mike Bettes is on his tornado hunt just to the west of your town, lol. So far the storms have held off, but they are firing up in Nebraska so they aren't going to get here until after 1:00 AM. Oh joy
Safe vibes!!

This evening I looked up into the sky, and this is what I saw:

REALLY beautiful photo. I didn't have a moment to look up tonight. Hope tomorrow night's clear.

Both of the moon photos are great! I can see the moon, but I don't have a good enough camera to take a picture that would turn out at all.

Wishing you a happy and magical birthday, DR George!
And....CAKE.
What movie do you plan to see on your special day, George?
Thanks, Iris! We saw "The Pirates! Band of Misfits" in 3D. It was a delightfully fun movie. Before the movie, Margo and I went to a restaurant called The Rock. Marsha joined us for the movie, after which Margo, Marsha and I went to a restaurant called Hop Jacks (I had one of their specialty burgers...I forget which). After that, we went to Baskin-Robbins, where Margo and I shared a mini (more than enough for two) cookie dough ice cream cake. It was all quite delish. :D

Here are the speakers - you tell me: http://www.amazon.com/Harman-Kardon-Soundsticks-III/dp/B0042F3K9W/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1336254100&sr=1-1
Very nice.

How do you know they're NOT clear plastic dildos?
Do they dance??
;)

I wonder how DR George's birthday is going?
It went quite well...and will continue tomorrow! ;D

Maybe someday she could sing "Think Pink" from Funny Face. :)
