Title: SWEET NOTHINGS

Well, you've read the notes, you've whispered sweet nothings to the notes, the notes have whispered sweet nothings to you, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home and whisper sweet nothings.

DR Ginny--I keep forgetting to answer your question regarding March 19th. I travel back and forth between New York and Maryland and don't have my dates for March planned as yet. If I am in New York at that time I would love to meet up with you and the others from HHW.

One of the most ambitious home projects for me involved a 2 month kitchen remodel. I detested not having the use of my kitchen. When the job was finally done, I ate all meals at home for at least one month, having lost all desire for restaurant cuisine.

Dear Bruce,et.al.,

Happiest of Cupidity and Lust...past! Didn't make a deadline to save my soul ce soir...tant pis pour moi, non?

Enfin...je suis vraiment joyeuse que...you have had une affaire de coeur a memoire, Herr Kimmelmeister!!  So sorry it could not have been I, but I was busy watching "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" and weeping like a tiny under-developed child.  Such a sucker I am for Love! Yes, indeed, I rush in where angels fear to tread...where wise men never go (so all my paramours are REALLY dumb!)

Listening to "Bus and Truck " on the CD today...and, by the way, I hate the worst of you, the best of you, the North, South, East and West of you...but then...whatta I know?

Happy V-day (past) to All!
Fish to sundry!

We can always change the word of the day from PECCADILLO to PECKERHEAD.

PECCADILLO...the MUSICAL!

In a world where fidelity has gone the way of the dinosaur...
Where moral judgement and common decency have had a short run and closed..in debt!...
Where men are men and women are...well, women..
Where no law of God, nor Man invades the pagan  slime of the bedroom...
One imperative remains to destroy the Very Fabric of Humanity!!!

PECCADILLO!!! (in theaters this April)

See it, and be ashamed.

We've done a few major renovations in the house we're currently living in.  We built my floor-to-ceiling bookshelves in my library with a rolling library ladder.  Then we wrapped more floor-to-ceiling shelves around the other wall, with another rolling ladder.  We built more bookshelves and an entertainment unit in the family room.

We've put distressed hardwood floors all through the upstairs of the house and a laminate floor downstair...all of this flooring replacing some rather mundane grey carpet that had been throughout the house.  We also did hardwood on the steps.  We got rid of all this carpet because of The Lovely wife's allergies and couldn't be happier that we did.  We have no carpeting in the house at all, just area rugs, we also have re-tiled both our bathrooms, and re-stuccoed the walls of the entire house. And put up wrought iron bannisters, curtain rods, and iron gates out front.

Through all these various projects we actually lived in the house.  At times, crowded in my office, sleeping on a mattress on the floor.  We spent a month eating down at Victor's the local bistro.

We also did major work on the outside, re-stuccoing the outside walls, rebuilding the front wall, re-paving the driveway, raising and correcting the roofline of the garage with a major beam, extending and repairing the back deck, re-building the balcony and its railing (We have repaired the deck several times and the balcony rail...the deck's ready for a few more repairs before the annual Kentucky Derby party this year).  We have laid brick walkways and a new brick driveway. We also added a concrete buffer against the original foundation and re-graded the front lawn to wick wetness away from the house.

We're severely eying the kitchen of late. And expect the roof may need attending to one of these days. The house has transformed from sort of a fifties modern to what I call a Southwest Modern.  Very rustic with textured stucco walls, rough-hewn foors, heavy mission or southwestern furniture.

Good morning, all!  This is my last intense BABES IN TOYLAND day; my copyist returns this afternoon to Chicago.  When he returns in May, we'll finish the question/answer sessions.  Meanwhile, he'll make the changes to the new vocal score, and I'll continue with the orchestra scores.  Tomorrow and Thursday are KING & I days at Rodgers and Hammerstein.   On Thursday, I also see my goddaughter play Caliban in THE TEMPEST.  Friday and Saturday are B&N days; Sunday I collapse!  I'm too old and tired for any peccadillos, there's not enough time in my day.

DRPogue, there's something familiar about the Roy Chapman Andrews story you mentioned, but you know more than I do at this point.  We probably had the same dinosour book by Mr Andrews, who was my idol between the ages of 11 and 13 when  I dreamed of being a dinosaur hunter.

My only extensive home renovation happened last year when the bookcases collapsed and had to be repaired.  The sad thing was having to lose a ton of books I had no room for.  This year's renovation will be the other wall's bookcases, which are showing signs of going the same route.  Luckily, we're not dealing with 18 feet of bookcases here, but the problem so far this year has been scheduling the time to take care of it.

TOD: We reroofed the house a couple weeks ago. After that's paid off, we will replace the plumbing with copper pipes. Some day, I'd like to update the kitchen, although DH disagrees.

We are expecting California's latest storm to make its way here tonight or tomorrow, so I think I'll go for a walk this morning before it hits. It's cloudy now, so it's not a good day for photos.

Yes, I'm hoping my copy of NEW YORK, NEW YORK arrives today. The script has always been the problem with the film, but DeNiro's selfish, nasty character doesn't bother me at all. I've known lots of unworthy guys who were loved body and soul by women who should have known better, but they usually stay with the men instead of doing what Liza does in the film.

And the score is so wonderful with the new songs and the mix of old big band standards that carping aside, I do like the film a lot.

I am still livid, however, that MGM persists in releasing 1.66:1 films in non-anamorphic transfers.

When I bought the house where I'm currently living, the entire kitchen had to be gutted. It was a total loss with pine tree wallpaper, appliances sticking out into the floor so far that you could not walk a straight line from the side door entrance to the door to the dining room. The cabinetry was unsufficient, and none of the appliances which came with the sale were worth having.

So, my partner and I found a guy who specialized in kitchen renovations; we sat down with him and planned a kitchen that would have cabinetry built specifically for the space, and I have to say it was the wisest investment I made in this house. The kitchen functions like a dream, and the cabinets were built with wonderful features that are totally unique utilizing every inch of space.

Sounds like it could have been a candidate on the America's Ugliest Kitchen show on TLC a couple weeks back. Although you could not have beaten the winner, which was a kitchen that someone had covered entirely, appliances and all, with a maroon velvet. Truly hideous.

Being a renter my whole adult life, I have not had the opportunity to do too much renovation aside from painting. I did have a victory when I convinced The Gal that this disgusting bookshelf in the trash outside our building could be rehabilitated. Even I had my doubts as it was covered with filth and kids' stickers and had nails sticking out of it, but I disinfected it cleaned it, painted it, and the thing is one of the nicest-looking pieces of furniture we have now.

I, like Rodzinski, have been a renter my whole life so I don't do much but I did decide a few years ago that I needed to refinish the cabinets in the kitchen. They were white and had about a million (almost true) coats of paint on them. The hardware was bad, the doors either stuck closed or wouldn't close at all. I had seen some of those infomercials for paint remover and decided to buy something similar at a local paint store. What I thought would be maybe a week long process at the most ended up taking closer to a month. Some of the paint came off with the remover but there was SO MUCH build up, colors I couldn't believe. There was a layer of black, a layer of red, a layer of yellow and a few other layers. What a mess. I scraped a lot and then I took out the drill and put the sanding attachment on to finish the job. I had to close the doors to the bedroom, living room and bathroom and even then the fine sawdust was everywhere. Oy, what a mess. My original intention was to do the rest of the kitchen area after the cabinet doors but that soon changed. I finished the cabinets and they are now painted a nice flat washable white and that's all I did and that's all I'll do. I'm very glad I did it, but I'll never attempt something like that again, especially because I rent this place. If I owned it, I might (with Anthony's help) try something in the bathroom, but it ain't gonna happen.

I'm another renter, although now I'm renting a house owned by my sister.  She said that if I want to do anything, I can.  I don't, so I won't. ;) As for actual decorating, to paraphrase Blanche DuBois, I have always depended on the kindness of...family.  My parents gave me the couch and non-matching easy chair, my sister's boyfriend gave me his year-old queen-sized bed when he bought a brand new California king-sized bed, my sister just left a whole bunch of things that she didn't want in her new house.  I have developed a very strong preference for "eclectic" decorating.  In other words, I'm too cheap to go out and buy anything that matches!

Good Morning!

Yeah!  The morning fog is finally starting to lift here in Fairfax, VA. It's supposed to turn into a very nice day weather-wise. -And supposedly the nicest day of the week.  Which should mean that it will be a nice day for a drive back down 95 to Richmond.

It was quite the struggle to get up today.  But I did get up - eventually - and I made my way - eventually - downstairs to get my workout in this morning.  Whew! That was a struggle too.  Almost so much a struggle to make me consider NOT taking a day off from working out!  ;)  But I pushed through it all, and now I'm just taking a break before I start getting things in order here.

I'll need to make some decisions as to what I need and want to take back with Richmond today, but I'm pretty sure I'll come back up this weekend just to spend some time with my family.  However, it was nice looking at the four stacks of CDs that I've brought up over the past few months - and that I've actually listened to too!

As for Today's Topic...

I'm a renter too...

However, when I was in high school, I decided to paint my bedroom.  Well, I decided to paint the one piece of wall in my room - the rest was paneling.  My uncle had done this graphic design in his basement, and I was inspired by that to do the same thing to mine - sort of a mini-mural.  I found this kit at Montgomery Ward's - it was sort of an oversize compass deal with this little paint pads.  I marked out the design, put up the masking tape, selected my three paint colors, and started painting.  It was a bunch of interlocking lines and curves.  Very cool.  I wish I had taken a picture of it.

Oh, and then about a year later, I wanted a different design, so I painted over the other one and started again.

:D

I'm also one of the few people who actually likes putting furniture together (from IKEA, Doorstore, etc.).  I have so many of those little Allen wrenches in my toolbox!

;)

Today I am as busy as a one handed wallpaper hanger, so this shall be quick  :o

When we moved into this house we discovered that the previous owners had a peccaidillo for painting over wallpaper, and apparently the owners before them had had a peccidillo for wallpapering over wallpaper

The house was painted white in every room and it had looked great in the daylight (which was the only way we saw it before we moved in)
but at night under artifical light, you could see the pattern of the wallpaper under the paint!!  ???

So we started stripping (wallpaper, watch y'selves!), and kept at it for months before we got it all off.  Then  DH plastered all the walls and painted over it.. For all the effort we put in we should really have just taken down the sheet rock and started over!

We also discovered that they had walled up a doorway, but the way they did it was just to cut a piece of sheet rock the size of the doorway and spackle it in and paint over it. Again , it was not obvious except under artifical light when suddenly the outline of the doorway would emerge,

We did end up replacing all the sheet rock in that wall...

As far as ugliest kitchen, I win hands down....one of these years we'll get it redone, the floors are dull brown ceramic tile, and the walls are also brown ceramic tile.  The cabinets were  nice and reasonably new, oak when we bought (they're about 15 years old now) but the mustard yellow formica counters look like they are from the year of the flood,  We thought we would redo the kitchen as soon as we finished the livingroom, but then the Vixter came along, and then the car died, and then we needed a second car because DH was commuting to Maryland for work, then DH was in the hospital, etc etc  ... 12 years later and we never did get the kitchen redone!

But hey, I'll just keep my guests in the new gazebo!!!
 :D

Gee, wasn't this quick ?

Actually, I'd prefer a brown kitchen floor; doesn't show dirt as often. One mistake me made when picking out the various things for the kitchen was getting a pebbly white non-wax floor covering. It has been a pain from day one. Shows every fleck of dirt ,and the pebbly nature of the surface enables dirt to hide in the under part of the pebbly texture making it necessary to get on hands and knees to keep it sparkling. I did that charwoman stuff for years, but now, it gets mopped once a week, and that's it.

Well, I usually mop on Friday, but I had to mop yesterday after the installer left muddy boot prints and dolley track marks after the dishwasher installation.

My big renovation is going on currently. My bathroom is very, very, very tiny, and the previous owners had taken out the original sink (which was likely very small) and put in a much larger sink with a cabinet...well, this sink took up so much room that you actually have to walk sideways as squeeze in to get past it to the toilet.

Last weekend my neice Katie and her husband Brian helped me remove the old sink and replace it with a very small wall mounted sink (similar to what was likely there in the first place). There is now much more room in the bathroom. I plan on repairing a few spots in the wall, putting up some vintage 1950s wall paper on one wall and painting the rest of the bathroom...all this weekend!

Was reading DVD Savant's review of CHARLEY VARRICK, taking Universal to task for a slate of full screen transfers on its budget line discs.

[sigh] Letterboxing has been with us for awhile now. You can't watch much network television without some shows being shown widescreen, and if you don't have a widescreen and/or HDTV, you're going to see those bars.

I know we've had this discussion before about letterboxing, but I can't help but notice that with EVERY single new DVD release that offers separate widescreen and fullscreen versions, the widescreen outsells the fullscreen by a great majority.

So why do these studios keep doing this? Savant thinks it's the Wal-Mart syndrome where studios put out budget product that can be dumped into sale bins at Wal-Mart, and that the kind of person who would dive into those bins wouldn't appreciate a quality presentation of the film. But do those people make up a majority of the DVD buyers? Sales charts say no.

Good morning!  Last night I dreamed I was at Manderley.  One of the oddest dreams I've ever had - it kept jumping all over the place and characters kept morphing and it was wacky.  In the last part of it, I'd invited a couple of people over.  We were joined by an uncouth interloper, then by about fifty other people.  Finally got rid of the uncouth interloper.  It alternately took place at some kind of house and the Sheraton Hotel.  Instead of a cover on the bed they'd used towels (this upset me), and there were spiders on the towels, which I brushed off hurriedly.  Then, because there were fifty people, we decided to go to a restaurant for breakfast - we walked down to the corner (this appeared to be like Sunset Blvd. near downtown).  We went into a large restaurant where they seemed to put out food on a table and everyone took what they want (not like a buffet, though).  They had bagels, corn pudding, and corn bread.  I kept trying to get some corn pudding but they kept taking it away or moving it on the table.  Then I woke up.

Universal's recent batches of catalog titles has been erratic.  In certain cases (Missing, Cloak and Dagger) they do anamorphic correct ratio transfers that look great, while in other cases (The Forbin Project, Varrick) they do full frame or pan-and-scan).  My guess is that they had letterbox transfers of the former but not the latter, and they just used what they had rather than do a new transfer.  That's the only thing that makes sense.

Oh, DR Matt H - re: full screen vs widescreen, whenever we buy DVD's for the parents (his or mine) they request full screen. They say it is easier for them to watch because they find the bars distracting and they think the picture is bigger so they can see the faces better.

A lot of the old movie DVD's  probably are being bought by the 50 + set  (which I will soon be joining!) and they may well agree with the old folk's at home!

Actually, I'd prefer a brown kitchen floor; doesn't show dirt as often. .

You'd think so wouldn't you? But there seem to be constantly little white spots everywhere (probably from Vixter spilling milk)

VixMom: Before television became popular, most movies were made with that "golden rectangle" proportion.  This was picked up by the television manufacturers, so the older films are, of course, a perfect fit for the standard screen.

Ironic, then, that it was as a way to compete with television that filmmakers chose to widen the screen ratios!

I've had many conversations with older people (who aren't that much older than I, while at Sam's Club or elsewhere, explaining to them what the difference is between widescreen and full.  They invariably choose the fullscreen presentations.

Der Brucer and I always go for widescreen.

Interior decorating?  A year ago, or a little more, when we finally got our furniture from the old house, deciding what would go where in my room was the big thing.  I naturally didn't put a thing where der Brucer had figured I would.  I've a whole wall of bookcases, and the head- and footboards on my old bed are more decorative features than anything.  But the room suits me quite well, and I'm happy.

I let der B handle the rest of the house, with the exception of the kitchen, where I knew I'd need a table.  Advice to everyone: make sure the table/main work area is exactly what you want!  We futzed for some time, placing boxes in the middle of the room to be sure the table would be the right size.  And we got strange looks from the salesman at the table store (where they also sell barstools) when I asked demanded that the table be 38" tall!  Hey, it's easier for me to work at; I don't have to bend over when I'm slicing and dicing.  Der B prefers the taller table, too.

After all that, getting the tabletop to match our kitchen counters (in a denim blue, which looks fab with the golden oak cabinets) was the easy part!

Oh and Jennifer, glad to hear the advice of all and sundry worked out!  What did you do differently this time, use sugar instead of liquid sweetner?

I used sweetner but not liquid.  I made sure the bowl was dry.  I made sure no water or egg yolk was in the whites.  I think that is it.  But I also put a bit of sour cream in the mixture after the whites peaked.  It the meringes taste really good (well for not having sugar or chocolate in them!).

MBarnum- I read that same Arch Hall interview in Fangoria. He seems to be a well-adjusted guy who looks at his brief career philosophically. He says, hey, if your dad offered you the chance to be in some movies, wouldn't you have done it? They really talk up THE SADIST in that piece, though I've never seen that one. THE CHOPPERS is pretty entertaining, if you see that one for cheap. Features his ridiculous song, "Monkey in a Hatband".

I don't feel any better.

It is 65 glorious degrees F here today.  How wonderful.  And snow predicted for tonight!

I think painting is also the largest project I have ever been involved in.  We did add a large room at one end of the house for my sister, but since it didn't involve any other room it wasn't a hardship.  And when Molly moved out, I got the room.  It is very nice.

OH - we did take out a wall between the bathroom and utility room making a much LARGER bathroom.  In doing so we lost our back door, because there was no utility room off the kitchen.  So we put French Doors Ooh la la - in the kitchen and added a deck.  That was NOT so convenient!

I may have some photos somewhere.

My most disastrous redecorating project was something like Ben's.  When I bought my original house in 1981, it had a painted fireplace.  I decided I would strip it and stain the wood.  Well, after several months of this, it became apparant the the various grains of wood that had been cobbled together to make it in 1936 would not look good stained.  So I just painted over it after all.

It wasn't till Joe moved in that the real decorating began, because that is what he is good at.  Trouble is, he's a perfectionist and finds every little flaw, so painting a room goes on forever.

In fact the best work ended up being done after he came down with a neuro-muscular disease.  We had the library half-dormered, put in 19' of book shelves on one wall, and sanded and stained the floor.  Read, Joe sanded and stained it.  He would turn up the stereo so the health care aid didn't hear him screaming in pain--but he finished it.

Then we had the kitchen redone.  We hired a carpenter, and figured out a great cabinet configuration.  But the pièce de la résistance was the floor.  Joe wanted it laid diagonally.  But the carpenter poo-pooed his next idea as much too difficult.  So Joe started it himself at night.  He covered half the floor boards with tape and stained alternate ones dark, redid the taping and stained the other ones light.  It was magnificent, though very time-consuming, but everyone who walked into the house said, "I love your floor!"

Then he redid the living room and painted that old fireplace in white and burgundy, very Victorian with complex patterns.  Alas, we sold the house and moved to our present new one, where precious little has been done as Joe's disease limits his abilities more and more.

My argument about the bars is that if they're noticing them, then the film isn't holding their attention at all. I forget that they're even there.

I recorded MEDIUM last night (a TV show that broadcasts in widescreen and thus has black bars unless you're watching the high definition broadcast), and I'll guarantee two minutes into the show, I won't even notice there are black bars there.

I wish there had been digital cameras back then because it would have been so easy to take before and after pictures and have them available for comparisons. I know the revovator took before and after shots, but he's long since left Charlotte, so I'll never get a chance to see how truly awful that kitchen was before we started. I stipped off a piece of the pine tree wallpaper and kept it for a long time to show people who visited what we started with, but I don't even know where that piece of paper is now.

As far as horse-races are concerned, count me in the I-Love-New York, New York camp.

What turned BK off was part of the reason I enjoyed it, taking the typical success-in-show-biz story and making the characters so realistically bad-natured while preserving the glowingly beautiful studio-shot exteriors, all the music and poetry contrasting with the warts-and-all DeNiro.

Good Afternoon!

From Richmond!

After cleaning, sorting, packing and bagging my stuff up, I finally left Fairfax just after 3:00.  Thankfully, there was no early rush hour traffic today.  A few minor delays initially on 95, but I was pulling up into my parking space at 4:50.  With a big smile on my face!

I just finished unloading everything from the car, and I shall unpack everything over the next few days.  I hope.  For tonight, I'm just gonna take it easy, get some dinner shortly, and watch "American Idol".  That's the list for now.

The apartment is clean, although it appears my roomie spilled some wine in the kitchen (again), and didn't really wipe/clean it all up (again).  Ah, well...

DR Jennifer - Congrats on the egg whites!  But I have to ask where did you get the idea to add sour cream?  I would think that the fat in the sour cream would actually prevent the meringues from properly baking/drying out.  But maybe not.  However, I'm guessing the acid in the sour cream probably helped to stabilize the egg whites.

*When I made the meringues last week, there was no cream of tartar in the house, so I substituted a teaspoon of cider vinegar.  Worked like charm.

Bruce,

Are you trying to make my head explode?  Today's topic may do just that.  There is a house project in progress right now.  So far it's been going pretty much OK.  However, other projects on a larger scale have not gone well and have driven me crazy.
The included building a house, joining two houses together, demolishing three rooms to make a larger kitchen and pantry, redoing an older house, etc., etc., etc.

The projects have all turned out well, but the process has been less than joyful (to put it mildly).  I think I'll have to think about Cicero's canons so I don't start ranting about past remodeling projects.

Evening all.

First I wanted say that I am sorry I didn’t say anything last night about SWW’s story about DerB.  It was so very touching and I thought about it a great deal today on the bus ride to/from work.  I’m so glad that DerB is ok now.

I’m fussing with my new Wi-Fi card.  I think it’s working.  I messed with it while waiting for the bus and it said it picked up no less then 3 signals but I don’t know how to access them.  I think I need program like IE.

I saw that they have a free trial for one on the San Disk website.  Guess I’ll give it a try because I do want to be able to access the internet when I go to NY.  I saw that the Muse lobby is a “hot” spot so that would be really GREAT!

Tried the new egg timer.  It didn’t work.  The eggs were runny inside.  Yuck.  I had to stop off and get more eggs tonight before I came home from work.  I’m giving the egg timer one more try.  This time instead of putting the eggs under cold water when it hits the “hard boiled” stage, I simply took them off the stove and am letting them cool down in the hot water.

I guess you could call hard boiled eggs my kitchen disaster.  I don’t know why I can’t seem to make them right even with an egg timer.  And when I do, I can’t peal them.  Sigh.

While I was at the store a lady came up to me and asked if I was “Danise” when I said yes she hugged me and told me to tell my Mom she said “hello” as well.  The only mystery about the whole thing is I have no idea who she was.  She said her first name but there were no bells ringing.  I HATE it when that happens and it seems to always happen to me.  I must leave more of an impression on people then they do on me.

Speaking of which.  I got a post card in the mail for my class reunion.  I never go to those things.  I wouldn’t know anyone there and they made my life such a living nightmare why would I want to spend money to be in their company?  I hardly see the point.    To see how fat, ugly, poor, rich they are and I’m not/am?  Please.

I own the house but no house projects.  Yet.  Someday I want to redo the kitchen/bathroom/bedroom but that will have to wait for another time.

Oh, I also wanted to say that I also had recent experence with a seller on Half.com for a book I wanted.  I bought it then received an e-mail that they didn't have it!  What gives?  Doesn't it cost money to run an ad for something you don't have to sell?

They refunded my money, thank goodness.

Well for cryin-out-loud. I won an item on Ebay yesterday using the buy it now feature and payed for it via paypal.

I get an e-mail today from the seller telling me that they do not have this item.

Well, why in the world would you put something on Ebay that you don't even have?

I should have looked at there feedback...they have over 100,000 score, but they have just over 7000 negatives! Holy moses!

DR MBarnum and Danise et al - A few weeks ago, I found out that antique stores are starting to NOT allow customers to take pictures of items in their store due to this very problem.  A customer will take a picture or two of an item, note it's price, then put the item up on E-Bay as their own.  *Camera cell-phones are a big problem.  They set a reserve price equal to the one in the store, and hope(!) that the item is still there once they receive a winning bid.  Some antique store owners started noticing their own items up for sale on E-bay - and they were not the ones selling the items!

Good Evening!

There's no place like home...

Well, there's nothing like having a Tuesday night off, at least!

;)

I made a run to the grocery store to pick up breakfast stuff for the week, and then over to Fu Jian to pick up some Chinese dinner - Spicy Mala Chicken - their version of Hunan Chicken.

-Oh, and I bought some lottery tickets too!  (fingers crossed)  And while I was buying the tickets, I ran into an actress/singer I haven't seen in years.  And then another friend of hers came in to the store.  It was a mini-party!

One thing I have "discovered" is that our upstairs' neighbor must have installed a new home theatre system.  And he likes to watch action movies, apparently.  At high volume.  I kept thinking he was moving furniture around, but then I realized it was sound effects from a movie.  Explosions, thunder, etc.  I was even thinking that some truck was driving by earlier.  Ah, well...

Steve caught me online earlier, and we were gonna try to get together tonight, but since I'm settling in tonight, we decided it would be best to wait until tomorrow night.  We'll probably end up at Stella's, our favorite Greek place in town.  And then we'll probably watch "American Idol" afterwards.

And speaking of "American Idol"...

I haven't seen anything but the first episode this season, but while watching tonight's elimination episode, I noticed two people I know and have worked with before.  One made it to the next round, and one was sent home.

But it was great to see them both advance to Hollywood.

Hugh Laurie is (with his writers) creating one of the more complex characters to show up in series television this year.  Come time for the Emmys, he'll probably be ignored, of course.  Given how the awards skew towards cable or top-ratings shows, House will be lucky if any of the cast or writing crew is even invited to the ceremony...as ushers.

I feel quite out of this loop indeed! Who are all of these people? Where is everyone? What's going on?!

Perhaps if I had any time to be lulling about on this internet, I would be up-to-date with the posters of the age, mais alas! Je n'ai pas du temps. Alors, qu'est ce que je vais faire? Ne rien, c'est quoi. C'est bon.

I hath been quite busy being me, running around like a loon and having a bit of fun here and there. Christmas was good, went to NYC after Christmas! Saw The Lion King, Modern Orthodox, Fiddler, and Avenue Q. Muy entertaining. Modern Orthodox may have been my favorite. Took a tour of the Lion King theatre, met some of the cast when a friend and I snuck away from said tour and found them :). Met the Avenuq Q folk after their show, found that John Tartaglias stepfather lives very close to me. We concluded that if he ever needs someplace to stay and gets tired of driving, he will stay with me :).

I skipped out on the musical this year. We're doing Funny Thing...Forum, but I just don't have any time. After months or rigorous voice training, my teacher and I have concluded that if I keep it up, I'll be ready for Juilliard in a year (When I'm applying for college). I may not even be applying there, but I want to be ready for anything. With my school, work, and voice, I just don't have time to be rehearsing for hours after school. Ah, well.

Last weekend I had All-District Chorus, and auditions for All-State chorus were being held during the rehearsals. I had a bad audition. I've never had one before...and I panicked and cried when I left the room. I know that sounds stupid, to never have had a bad audition, but it's true, and it was horrible! So I cried and was very upset, and called my parents to tell them not to bring the videocamera, etc. Very stressful time.

And I made it.

Admitted, my scores were lower than normal, but it just goes to show that I cannot deal with failure or any kind, and I guess it's a good/bad deal. What can you do? Not complain, that's for sure.

Arena Stage next week...I'll be seeing Intimations for Saxophone. Tres excited.

My Valentines Day was wonderous and lovely, in case you were wondering :).

Email me sometime, I'm much more in tune to that aspect of my life!

BK, I miss your witticisms. Or however you spell it.

SWW, I hope things are well for you!

MBarnum, will you marry me? I always did have a dumb crush on your avatar and it was reborn 5 minutes ago :).

Welcome, new people!

Love
Swishtah.

 VIBE REQUEST

Some of you may recall last year, when my Joe was being held in Abu Ghraib, Long Island Branch, that a certain Angel named Jim helped him through the ordeal, nay probably saved his life, truth to tell.

During this last year, we have tried to help out his mom and his wife and five kids.  We got him an attorney who appears to be the top parole attorney in the State, and who seems to be doing a great job putting together a report for him.  Suffice it to say that the main reason Jim is upstate, in Downstate Correctional Facility, is that various officers of the law are trying to cover their own butt-cheeks for serious PECCADILLOs that they performed while on duty.

Well, tomorrow is Angel Jim's parole hearing, and if all goes well he will be back with his family soon.  We won't know the outcome until Friday or Monday, but I would like to request serious vibes for Jim and his family.  It is a well-known fact that hhw vibes have proven their efficacy on many occasions.

Vibes may be posted at any time during the next few days.

Thank you.

I see SS - how busy can one person be?  It's nice that the rest of us just lead lives of quiet desperation.

I knew about TOP CAT. It's been out for quite a few weeks. I really did love that show, one of the staples of my childhood.

Unbelievable how many years they ran that show on Saturday TV just repeating the same one season's worth of episodes. THE JETSONS was similarly repeated for many, many years, all the same couple of dozen episodes. In the case of THE JETSONS, many years later they did make another batch of them, but I believe TOP CAT had that one prime time season and that's what got rerun for the better part of a decade.

BK, don't whine, or I shall bitch-slap you myself.  Just finished mountains of work and came by to see what was cooking....macaroni and cheese! (again)

Have been listening to "Bus and Truck"...again...on the old car CD player.  And "Broadway Bound"...and Guy Haines singing the beautiful "Evening Star". And "Hi, It's Me", crying like a veritable baby.

Leslie Parrish was the slightly exotic while gamine blonde I figured was pretty nifty when I was a mere slip of a girl. I appreciate your adulation.

I have now, officially, been off my "butt cheeks" for several minutes. Someone else take over, or you know just how nasty HE can be!

Oy and vey.  Well, I guess we're done for the evening.  Maybe I'll just lock this thread up now.

I'd post the cheesecake but there's no one here to look at it.  Disheartening, ain't it?

I have scanned it onto the computer and shall post it with the new notes.  It's something else.

Or maybe I'll just be ornery and contrary and stubborn, like some people I could name but won't.

New notes in fifteen count them fifteen minutes.  Leslie Parrish in seventeen count them seventeen minutes.

I'm up, but not for long.  Here's my story...and a little rant:  My sister had to go to somewhere in eastern Washington for her job.  She left Monday morning and won't be back until Thursday.  My niece, who will be 21 in April, doesn't want to stay in the house by herself, so she's staying at my parents' house.  Since I live next door to my sister and niece, I, have been coerced (basically) into walking and feeding their dog Murphy and cat Casper (actually, Casper doesn't need to be walked, just fed).  The real problem is that Murphy (the dog) has to be taken on a leash (they don't have a fenced in yard and he'll run away) at 5:30 a.m.!!  AND at 11:30, which is my lunch time AND as soon as I get home from work (whenever that is...it can vary) AND late in the evening (about 10:00)!!

My sister has to go out of town three or four times a year but I have to make sure that I don't let them talk me into this again...ever!

End of rant. ::)
