Well, you've read the notes, the notes were very wintery and took place in Wonderland, and now it is time for you to post until the winter cows come home.

I tried that earlier. Didn't work so well.

Good morning, all! I think (fingers crossed) that this cold is heading out of my system. Last night I slept rather well for the first time in weeks. I did have several weird dreams, one about the Drama Book Shop and in the otherI was working in a law firm or agency as some sort of freelance person working on invitations of some sort for a "name," although I have no idea who this person might be now. The strangest part was that the dream also involved the title song from "Earnest In Love," which people at the firm/agency kept watching on video with me.
This morning I have another round of McGlinn estate work. I don't know if Geri and I will be pulling more materials or if we will be working on sales of music, etc. that had a deadline of Dec 15. After that, a trek to Toyland for more edits.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Happy Birthday Wishes to BK's Brother and to DR William F. Orr !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope you continue to feel well today, Elmore!

Happy Birthday DR WFO!

Tomorrow night it may be snowing cats and dogs here.....but nothing today. This is good since I am driving and spending 8 hours at work.

Thursday morning greetings! More cooking for me today - I've already started a small batch of "Lime Jello Marshmallow Cottage Cheese Surprise." Well, actually, my version is "Lemon/Lime Jello Pineapple Cottage Cheese Surprise, with Pecans," but you get the idea...

Even though I'm technically on vacation it seems I can be on short-term disability during this time and recover 5 of my "annual leave" days. This year an exception has been made and we are allowed to carry over 15 days of annual leave instead of the usual 10 so since Human Resources has put me on short-term disability 5 of my annual leave days go into the pile for next year and in 2011 it seems I will have 6 weeks of vacation instead of 5!

This Christmas, My fellow Hainsies/Kimlets, is one of looking back...discovering past memories/reminiscing on days of yore.
And look what I found among a cache of treasures: This photo from Christmas 1951 (I was 3 years old), and the first "documented" Christmas (photowise) of my life.
-
As you can see in the photo I posted above, "Santa Claus" had already arrived and laid out my presents. A train set, a tractor with trailer, and some additional presents in the chair. Note, too, the window treatment. In my family, that is the "infamous" window treatment because my mother tried so hard to create something wintry/Christmasy. She used cotton to simulate snow...and she used "glue" to make it stick to the windows. She may have spent a few hours perfecting the look, but it took her a very long time...many months, even...to get all the glue residue off the windows. It was the only time anything like that was or would be done again.
In the photo below, you can see me with one of the "wrapped presents" I received. It was a baby doll. My grandfather was apoplectic, but my mom said it was what I wanted. My memories, for what they are worth nowadays, are all of the chalkboard and the tractor (sans trailer). I had those objects for many years after.

I'm reading that NY Times Spiderman article that says teh show will start again tonight. It is interesting that on one line they say that the injured stuntman is having back surgery. Then on the next line it says he is going home probably tomorrow and will make a full recovery and return to the stage. Glad he will be okay.

The Monarch Scientist's Son could use more vibes, good thoughts, and prayers. He keeps getting air leaks in the lung, which will heal on their own, but are delaying his chances to go home. Also, yesterday the nurse felt he was making it up about his intense pain. The Monarch Scientist discovered that the tubing that the pain meds were going through weren't attached to him, and all the meds dripped onto the floor. This went on for SIX HOURS.

The Roman spirit is alive and well. This is from a NYPost article on Spidey woes:
"It is such a controversial show with a little bit of danger involved," said Jason Majestic, 34, of Long Island.
"You want everyone to be safe -- but it would have been awesome to watch if something had happened."

LOL!!! I came to my brother's office and started working on my brief,. I was reading a guide and realized that the deadlines have changed. Rather than a 30 day before hearing deadline, it's 15 days. I burst out laughing. I remember now that when the manual came out everyone yelled about 30 days being too far in advance, but I haven't had a hearing under the new rules. So, Merry Christmas, I don't have to have it in for another 2 weeks!

Hello, DR Edi! How are you today? Fr. Richard asked me to find out your step-mom's first name so that he can include her in the liturgy at Holy Nativity. Would you mind sharing it?
-
Sorry not to be able to spend more time here; I came back from Blue Ridge last night and am going up tomorrow, so I basically figured I had this one day to xmas shop and cook. But this morning we learned that Greg's mother was taken to the E.R. and so he's down there right now. She has pneumonia and a UTI and we're just hoping she'll be able to make it through. They had done a swallow test and determined that she could have no more food by mouth, just her feeding tube...this was after we had done a lot of work for her to be able to eat solid food, so I think she was very discouraged by the news. The last time she was in this shape she was placed in hospice but then was able to leave and go to assisted living.
I'm trying to edit together a memorial tribute for my step-mother's service on Tuesday night, so all I want for Christmas are VIBES VIBES VIBES. Love and happy holidays to all our HHW friends!

Amy, more hugs and love to you dear friend.

So, I guess Fr. Richard now needs 2 first names, DR Edi. Sorry to hear about Greg's Mom's set-back.
-
You got 'em, Edi.

Richard is out and about, duplicating the bulletins for tomorrow evening's service and picking up our Honey Baked ham and turkey. I have cinnamon pecan coffee cakes in the oven and have worked through my stack of recipes so that the next one up is for next Monday. My only kitchen tasks left are to decorate the shortbread cut-outs, prepare plates of cookies for my Mom and my Aunt, and pack up the foodstuffs that we're taking to Lima for the weekend.

Of course, I would have wished Craig Brockman a happy haineshisway.com birthday if only his birthday were noted on the fancy-shmancy haineshisway.com birthday calendar.

Some fine Christmas we'll just have to make the Do a hainsies/kimlet get-together, with people flying in from all over.
-
I made a tuna sandwich for lunch, had some low-fat wheat thins with it and that's that for the time being. I began watching the third Borzage silent film, Lucky Star, which I'm enjoying. Then I picked up the stuff from the framers, picked up no packages or mail (although supposedly a Fed Ex package is "on the truck" - yeah, right). Mr. Grant Geissman will be here in about ninety minutes, I think, to hang pictures.
-
So the thing on All That Chat seems to be - if you're arguing vociferously for SPIDER-MAN to close down then you;re objective, but the eight or nine people who are arguing to let Equity gather its info and trust them to watch out for actor safety must be shills.
None of the pro-Spidey-and-trust-Equity people are attacking anyone's integrity, but all of the pro-letting-Equity-sort-this-out people are being attacked as shills who must have an interest in the show succeeding.
-
It recalls the guy (his name may have been "brother") on All that Chat who was arguing against lots of shows and always in favor of ROCK OF AGES, and when he finally seemed to be getting identified as being associated with ROCK OF AGES, he disappeared from All That Chat. But he was clearly an anti-shill for the shows he was trying to undermine that were competing with ROCK OF AGES for Tonys.
-
At last, the prodigal FJL returns - perhaps more postings here would result in less frustration? Just a thought. As to ATC, what do you expect from that site? Objectivity?
-
I'm listening to Annie Get Your Gun - in Japanese, courtesy of MBarnum.

Both ATC and Broadwayworld have had the most ridiculous posts about this episode with Spiderman - hysteria, untruths, speculation, and pure unadulterated insanity.

I'm shocked she thought he was faking the intense pain. I hope she is now being extra nice to him. The next morning when the specialist arrived he was very upset that my hand had been wrapped dangerously tight.

Good news about Greg's mother! :)
-
Both ATC and Broadwayworld have had the most ridiculous posts about this episode with Spiderman - hysteria, untruths, speculation, and pure unadulterated insanity.
And you know what the real truth is because . . .?
I admit there's a lot of hysteria and a lot of speculation, but some of that comes from the vague reliability of the media. In one report "stuntman" Christopher Tierney suffered minor injuries, some broken ribs and internal bleeding. Julie Taymor says to the cast he's raring to get back to the show. Then, his brother says to the news that he may never be on a stage again and he underwent back surgery yesterday. Then, another report says that he's going to New Egland on Friday to recover. No matter what the truth is, the 31 year-old dancer will never be the same again.
Of course the production wants to minimize the injuries as though it will diminish his lawsuit against them for careless safety measures, and it's time Equity and OSHA stepped in to protect the performers. There was one horrible fall suffered in THE LITTLE MERMAID and you'd thoink that would shake up things but it's taken four cast injuries on this show and that's ridiculous. I don't wish the show ill or well, since I have no interest in it beyond what's happening to its cast. And there, I care a lot.
-
I think Anything You Can Do in Japanese is most excellent. Thanks DR MBARNUM.
If you have Netflix and like Frances Farmer - her final film THE PARTY CRASHERS is available there, DR JMK reports.

Wow, I'm so lucky. My care at Beth Israel, from the time I got into the emergency room until the time I was discharged was excellent. The doctor, the nurses and the orderlies were caring and friendly and very concerned. There was an apology every time I was awoken for a temperature check or some other vital sign check (not that often by the way) and they explained things to me and when one of my drips was set on too high an infusion speed and it felt like my arm would break off the nurse fixed it immediately and apologized profusely for the error.
I'm so glad I was there for the treatment with the caring and experienced staff.

The feisty little church lady went to orthopedic rehab at her Assisted Living place.
The Monarch Scientist's son had all the tubes removed and feels much better now. He may go home today.

Great news!

They've moved Greg's mom out of ER and into a hospital room, so I am taking that as a sign the HHW vibes are in full effect. Thank you from us both!

Birthday wishes to Craig Brockman, and please send thanks to him for BWW being so generous with including Skip's and my goings-on.
British Wax Works?

I've been trying to think of places for Matthew and Eric to visit when they are in Phoenix next month. The only interesting place I can think of out here is the sewage pond.
DR Laura - thanks for thinking of us. We haven't booked anything yet, including our flights/hotel etc. If you have any insight on a nice hotel to stay at, I'd love to know. Like I said, nothing has been set and I'm not doing it (Long rant post about THAT one, but I'll refrain)

Has anybody here ever done business with the Green Movie Shop?
http://www.greenmovieshop.com/home.php
If so, please share your experience.
They're offering all 12 seasons of one of my favorite TV series (NYPD Blue), however all but the first 4 seasons are not legally available in the USA.
Thanks.
I will have to think about this site...they have a show that I want. ;)
-
DR ELMORE your package arrived today.
Thank you for thinking of the needy in the Midwest and providing them with entertainment and frivolity.
I am not opening my elmore package until Christmas Day........ so to speak.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY SON CRAIG BROCKMAN
A Very Happy Birthday to DS Craig Brockman!! ;D

And now, I must leave. I'm working concessions and I don't know what for. I'll find out soon enough.
Have a good rest of the evening, all!

But before I go...

I don't know from nice hotels, Matthew. I usually stay at a Motel 6 or Rodeway Inn. Super 8 if we are really splurging.

I can tell you what parts of town NOT to stay in, if that will help.

Be careful if it is MURDER SHE WROTE that you want. It is not the entire set of episodes.
-
I can tell you what parts of town NOT to stay in, if that will help.
At this point, anything will help.
-
I think Kerry would be better able to help you choose a nice hotel.
-
I guess that would depend on what we are doing when we are there. As far as I know, we're meeting up with one of Eric's old friends. I don't know what that entails. So when I know more, I'll throw it out there.

I don't know anything - and I don't post. That is the difference, you see. I'm in complete agreement with your post here - no one knows anything and all we get is Rashomon.
-
In yesterday's DAILY NEWS article about Christopher Tierney's situation, the first paragraph mentions he has broken vertebrae, the reason for yesterday's surgery, and his brother says he's in terrible shape and may never be on a stage again.
Broadway World mentioned his surgery and at the bottom of the article it mentions the press release saying that he was suffering from broken ribs and internal bleeding. Ms Taymor is happy he will be all right. All in one article!

-
The medical info is not supposed to be given out, so I'm not surprised everyone is guessing.
-
I'd trust his brother over Ms Taymor; she's too close to the situation and is trying to keep the damages to a minimum.
-
The medical info is not supposed to be given out, so I'm not surprised everyone is guessing.
As Laura pointed out, with the HIPAA laws in effect; it is not surprising that no one can reallly confirm the extent of his injuries, until he decides to release the information, himself.

G'night!
I will see one and all on Christmas Eve.

Why is Patrick Tierney talking to the press rather than Christopher Tierney having a lawyer talk on his behalf?
And why are they letting him out of the hospital so quickly after his surgery? Is the insurance company forcing a quick exit from the hospital?
-
A person who seems to be a tort lawyer on All that Chat says the Human Error determination makes it unlikely that there would be any punitive damages against the show, that workmens compensation and disability insurance would be what kicks in for him.
Later edit: Oh wait, he says that would be in New Jersey, he doesn't know New York law.
-
It will certainly be interesting to see how it all plays out. The nastiness on the boards is occasionally breathtaking to behold and not in a good way.
-
I do hope the hasty exit from the hospital is what the injured person wants. And if he wanted to stay longer than insurance covers, one would hope the show would pay for a few extra non-covered days, no?
-
I haven't seen anything saying he's definitely being released from hospital tomorrow.
-
He may be released from the hospital into a rehab facility. It could still be serious and painful.
-

Perhaps Patrick Tierney was upset over all the press releases saying his brother was doing fine and downplaying his injuries?

Hurray! The Monarch Scientist's son is home!

Good news, DR Laura!

Happy Birthday to DR jane's son Bryan!!

Here's a more recent statement by Patrick Tierney:
http://www.wral.com/entertainment/story/8818529/
Patrick Tierney said his brother would be released from the hospital Friday or Saturday and would complete his recovery at home in New Hampshire. He said his brother is in "as good spirits as he can be," is expected to make a full recovery and will surely return to the stage.
"He's a dancer. He landed on his feet. If he didn't land on his feet, he wouldn't be with us," said Patrick Tierney, 24, of Plaistow, N.H. "He has a strong body and an amazing attitude."

Cute card, as usual, DR MBarnum.

BK - That's right. but it's more recent than his saying his brother would probably never step on the stage again.

After a fall of 30 feet and broken vertebrae, I think Patrick is being overly optimistic. There's going to be a lot of physical therapy and problems in his body that will never heal completely.
-
After a fall of 30 feet, I would be surprised if he can continue to be a professional dancer.
-
Have you seen Spiderman, FJL? Aside from the special effects, is it a good show? Good story and good music?
-
I just don't think any of us know anything at all - and I think an accurate reporting of what actually happened will eventually come to light.
-
Laura _ i saw the two very very early previews. The story is hampered by a so-called "Geek Chorus" framing device, whose dialogue was sloppy, but I found the mythological story very exciting. First act was far better than the second. The lyrics are very controversial on All that Chat, but I'd compare it to Spring Awakening in quality. If that show's craft bothered somebody, they'll be bothered here, too.
Music - hard to say - it never bored me or left me uninterested, and liked the music a lot more second time hearing it.
-
You haven't really heard "I'm An Indian, Too" until you've heard it in Japanese.
I wonder if it's still considered politically incorrect in Japanese.
-
Just watched an episode of "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" called "The Sorcerer's Apprentice." Brandon de Wilde was really good in it, so was Larry Kert in a small role.
-
Happiest of birthdays to DR WFO, BK's son, and Craig Brockman!
Brother.
Oops, sorry - holiday head...
Did you have some of the eggnog I made tonight? It was certainly special. Both rum and bourbon. And eggs. And plenty of whipped cream. And freshly grated nutmeg on top. Very happy potion.

Hurray! The Monarch Scientist's son is home!
Great news.

Finished with my viewing and got industrious and put out plates and flatware and napkins and am now making tuna pasta salad whilst listening to wonderful music from The Railway Children.

Any of the Pointe Hotels are really nice, or they were when I was there. There are a number of nice hotel/resorts in northern phoenix/scottsdale. It's been a long time since I lived there. Kerry would be the best person to ask
-
My dad, brother, DR Sam's BF and I went to True Grit tonight. We all absolutely loved it. Sam's BF hadn't seen the original (he's young) but the rest of us had and loved it. We all agreed that this is the same story but a really different movie entirely. We had a good discussion about it on the way home. I'll tell you more if anyone wants to know, but I highly recommend seeing it.
OH, and I couldn't believe it is only $4.00 to go to an evening show here. Amazing. I'd be at the movies all the time if I could get in for $4.00
-
Ok, time to get some sleep. Tomorrow it's pancakes and sausage for breakfast. Today my mom bought some bloody mary mix to make on Christmas Morning. LOL.
-
Tuna pasta salad is made and, of course, I'm tempted to just eat it all right now.
-
But I shan't.
-
Listening to nice music by Mr. Morricone.
-
I've gotten through about eight CDs today - the pile is still huge but now more manageable.
-
Where in tarnation is everyone? You'd think it was the night before the night before Christmas.
-
Get me off this damn page.

One of our GUESTS was looking at the 12/24/2004 postings - so many people posting who no longer frequent these here parts for various and sundried reasons, most of which are/were extremely silly, at least in my opinion. Tempers sometimes flare in the best of families, offense is sometimes taken in the best of families but you know what, you get over it and everything rights itself if you don't run away. Francois, Tomovoz, Dan-in-Toronto, Jay, Lulu, MattH - so many wonderful folks. And Ann, S. Woody White and der Brucer, all of whom still stop by occasionally, but way too rarely.
Wouldn't it be nice if on this Christmas of 2010 everyone came back and started anew? That is my Christmas wish.
