I realized that Magnolia, Shake Shack and Levain are within seven blocks of each other... And if go west a block or two then you could also include Grandaisy, Buttercup Bakeshop, Jacques Torres Chocolate and Grom...

...and the gym!     ;)

But I don't go to that location. Too cruise-y.

Well, it looks like Prop 8 narrowly passed in California.

It remains to be seen if I will be told that my marriage is invalidated.

I wouldn't doubt that Prob 8 (along with the Florida prop) will be overturned in the courts.  But still a let down that it passed.

What confounds me is that this was a constitutional amendment.  It should require a 2/3 vote to pass, but somehow it doesn't (and doesn't have 2/3, either).

Expect this constitutional amendent (as opposed to revision) issue to be on its way back to the courts. (The issue was raised before the election, but the court basically said "come back when you're injured".

So are we allowed to discuss politics now?  Saying something like at last this country has come to its collective senses?  :)

Does that mean that representatives of the over 46% of the electorate who disagree can voice their conerns with a potential rush to socialism?

der Brucer

It's perfectly fine with me--I enjoy a lively political debate, I think it's one of the privileges of our society and one reason I can never understand why people get so uptight about differing opinions.  If you don't want differing opinions, there are any number of countries I can suggest.  :)

And what a telling difference in "classiness" between the audience reaction during McCain's concession speech and Obama's acceptance speech.

Definitely!

Parental vibes for DRs Michael Shayne and Jed.

One of my reasons for retiring is to be more available to my mom and her sister, both of whom live in a retirement community nearby.

Catching up on book reviews and other professional journals and trying to stay awake.  People who have to get up at 6am have no business watching election coverage until after midnight!

DR elmore - Regardless of your catty response, the only person responsible for last night's election results is Senator, now President-Elect Barack Obama.

I agree - the result was much more a Yes on Obama than it was a No on McCain (althought a No on Bush probabaly played a part).

Here is a non-controversial post:

For lunch, I am eating Minnestrone, a Gyro, and a banana.

Do you following the High School instructions and put a condom on your banana?

I am intrigued by the promotional video of DOCTOR ATOMIC, the opera that DR JOSE is attending.

Interesting.

I am watching a 2002 BBC documentary about Luchino Visconti.  It features a contemporary interview with Helmet Berger.

I don't feel so fat now.

I can't imagine a fat Helmet Berger.  Didn't he get some prince or count to legally adopt him in the mid 70's?

Here is Helmut in 2007.

My, my!  A far cry from "Dorian Gray."

Thanks for posting this, DR Jane.  First thing this morning, a group of us were talking about this very topic and trying to remember how old Amy Carter and Chelsea Clinton had been when their fathers were elected.
