Well, you've read the notes, you were down with the notes, the notes were down with you, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they'll be home, never fear - they ain't down yet.

And the word of the day is: FASTIDIOUS!
As opposed to: SLOWIDIOUS!

Good morning, all! Dear Friend BK, I have great faith this current state of affairs will all end up to your advantage. Unfortunately, college theatre is often the same as community theatre, and you're stuck casting what you can. It isn't professional theatre, although I think it's great you're setting standards for the students. I'm actually surprised you're doing an original show for this workshop and not tackling a show you've always wanted to do. I wish you the best in the next couple of weeks.
I have to do some Mario fixes this morning before I drop it off on my way to Toyland.
TOD: Memorial Day weekend, 1984. I was doing arrangements for a cruise line entertainment company (oy! the bands were awful) and I had a deadline. I think for the 4 day weekend - Friday to Monday - I got no more than 2-3 hours sleep a night. My whole memory of the ordeal is turning the scores in to the copyist and going immediately to bed. Thank God for NoDoz and instant coffee.
-
24 hours.....once when I went to Paramount's King's Island.
-
ZOMBIE KIMMEL - well as they told Miss Sylvia Barrett in UP THE DOWN STAIRCASE: "Let it be a challenge to you."
Sending you the best of theatre vibes - your cast members who have listened and who care and who WANT to do the show you want to do, will carry it through. Those are the ones who will do MORE if you want them to, and the audience will know.
I also say - READ THE BRAIN.....it will be a lynch-pin for the show rather than one more "I don't care" attitude onstage.
-
DR ELMORE is fixing Mario. :)
-
Working today, and then we have our Open House at PCPH tomorrow. Whew! Is it summer already?
-
DR ELMORE is fixing Mario. :)
Oy!

Vey!

And the word of the day is: FASTIDIOUS!
As opposed to: SLOWIDIOUS!
A group of dieters with very low IQs decided to lock themselves in a bank vault with eat nothing but breath mints and cotton candy for a whole month, just watching over each other and not getting a doctor to give an opinion or monitor their condition. When, after the month was over, the vault was opened and they were all found to be dead, the press had a field day, nicknaming the group the fast idious.
I didn't get that much sleep last night, that's the best I can come up with right now.
-
BK, I am sending lots of positive theater vibes your way.

It's a good thing Mario isn't a dog - veterinary medicine isn't something to be attempted by amateurs. :o

Vibes to BK for a good theater day!
I am off to Meetingland again.
-
DR SWoody, I am so glad Angela got a home! Good luck on this next one -- he is very handsome!

Yesterday, der Brucer and I went to a movie theater to see The DaVinci Code. We both sort of liked it, but agreed that it wasn't as good a film as it could have been.
If there is a serious flaw in the film, it stems from copying the book too closely in structure. What worked on the page - specifically, very short chapters that switch in turn from one location and story thread to another and then back again - ended up being distracting on film. That's a screenwriting problem.
The other flaw is harder to repair, and is a direction problem. For a film that deals with religious topics, it contains very little in the way of exaltation. The thrill of faith was missing, except when Ian McKellan's character was explaining his theories concerning the painting "The Last Supper." Other than that, nearly every character who was acting because of their beliefs behaved as if their faith was a burden. The result was a film that felt leaden, even when it wasn't.
-
Thank-you, DearReaderLaura, although most of the credit goes to der Brucer.
We'll be driving up to meet Blackie today, and der B has decided to take Fletcher with us. That's going to make for a very crowded car!
-
Last evening, Cillaliz said:
Today was the last day of school for the summer....well that's how it feels.
Well, I guess the same is true for me. As of yesterday, I am officially off of work for the next six to eight weeks.
-
Yesterday's TOD:
Car CD player:
- a disc by Christine Andreas, which we both didn't care for much.
- Brent Barrett's Alan Jay Lerner disc, which we both enjoy.
- the OBCR of Sweet Smell of Success, after which der B declared "Well, I don't see us playing that one again."
-
Saturday morning greetings! It's a work day for me and the organization that asked me several months ago to do a program called yesterday to cancel it. Oh, well, I have plenty to keep me busy this morning instead.
Vibes to BK - yours is the kind of situation that makes my hands break out.

Q: What did the convict do when he found out he was allergic to prsion??
A: He broke out.

Good morning!
Beautiful breezy morning here. At some point during the night, it rained, and it rained pretty hard because the ground was soaked this morning, and there was still plenty of water dripping from the trees this morning when I went out to get the newspaper. I slept through all of it. The best night's sleep I've had in weeks.
-
We also went to the Borders in Newark, where der B found a few things for the grandlads, who have birthdays coming up. He also found DVDs to add to our collection:
- a set of Wodehouse Playhouse
- a set of Carl Sagan's Cosmos
- and a set of Leonard Bernstein's Young People's Concerts.
Me, I found a DVD copy of Doctor Who: City of Death, co-written by Douglas Adams. That's the one where they did some filming in Paris, but didn't take guest stars Julian Glover and Catherine Schell with them. It's also the one where part of the story involves the Louvre and the Mona Lisa, in more intriguing ways than they were used in The DaVinci Code. Which brought the day around on itself again.
-
The longest I ever stayed up was also 24 hours when I was a senior in high school. After the last performance of the senior class play, the cast went to the river house of one of the cast members, and we had an all-night party. It's the only time in my life I stayed up all night and didn't go to sleep until bedtime of the next day.
In college lots of folks did all-nighters preparing for tests and exams or doing term papers, but I was never one of those. I had to have a decent night's sleep or I couldn't function the next day. Of course, I was also prepared for my tests and papers so that staying up all night wasn't necessary. I was always that way as a student. My nerves would never have allowed me to put off preparing for anything until the last minute.
-
Nothing on TV today or tonight for me, so I'll be DVDing it all day today. Have pretty much exhausted the things on the DVR, so it'll be DVDs for the entire day. Looking forward to STARGATE and THE PRODUCERS.
-
Perusing yesterday's posts, I noticed a reference to The Battered Bride.
I can't find anything in any of my cookbooks, but I could probably make up a recipe if I had to. The main question, of course, would be how the batter is to be used: baked, griddled, or deep fried?
Hmmm, maybe a bridal gown made of funnel cake, dusted with powdered sugar? That could be fun!
-
Bruce - best vibes to you today. Been there, done that. Oy. Don't envy you - that's the spirit of "breaking into this biz is like breaking into Fort Knox; breaking out, we're talking Alcatraz."
Wedding rehearsal and rehearsal dinner had a lot of the same elements - except they were The Elements - of the Nature Can Be Cruel To Brides variety. The happy couple want to be married on the beach at Oxnard. Okay - here's a canopy and some chairs for the guests. Wedding at 5:30. Rehearsal in the same exzackt spot at the same exzackt time yesterday... fog rolls in, moisture, temperatures drop into the low fifties... bride will be in backless strapless gown, bridesmaids in halter top gauzy dresses - all freezing for a good half hour, while our childhood chum, The Federal Judge goes through the whole megillah...
So, Jilly, wanna move this sucker INSIDE? Nope, I always dreamed of a wedding on the beach - I don't care if I freeze to death. Okey-doke. Now I'm thinking I have to somehow get Catering to provide blankets on each of two hundred chairs at some point today. And maybe we can find four or six of those big patio heaters, that They use on patios for outdoor dining? Oy.
Then, we all adjourned to the Rehearsal Dinner that my sister Tami has planned for 35 of us... also OUTSIDE ON A PATIO. Except, when we got to the restaurant, it was raining on the patio... so they had to create seating in various areas of the restaurant without disturbing the quite full reservations list... oy. Bride very agitated, my sister gobbling ulcer medication... Today should be interesting...
-
DR PennyO - wedding & weather vibes to your family!

Longest I have gone without sleep - well, in a lifetime of chronic insomnia, yet one weekend lives forever in my memory for sheer endurance, emotion, strangeness and Auld Lang Syne. Ten days before their deaths, I had the weekend shift both nights with my parents. I had been asleep for about an hour, when "something" awakened me. I tiptoed into their room, and didn't see my mother OR father. I went towards the bathroom to check, and found my dad on the floor wedged partly under his side of the bed. Okay - it took nearly 20 minutes for me to unwedge him and then lift him from behind. Then another half hour to get him into the wheelchair and to the bathroom, hose him down, change him, change the sheets, change him again and get him back into bed. All this time, wondering where the hell my mom is...
I'll never forget tucking him in, hey, Dad, we had an adventure, huh? And he smiled and said, Thanks, Penny.
Then I tracked her down in the kitchen, "preparing" breakfast for him. It had taken her the whole hour to bring out pots and pans to the table, carry the entire knife block, with all the knives to the table, and put various items in various configurations around the room. Took me until 6 ayem to convince her it was night time, let's get to bed. (The Thing was eating her brain... she was very confused, but still In Control Of The Whole World). That stuff went on for the whole next day and night - and Monday morning when Tami got in at 6:45, I took off. Grueling, yes. Physically exhausting. Messy. Disturbing. heartbreaking. It became a Zen exercise, and I loved them so much. That weekend is one of my tenderest memories of my whole life with those two wacky little Jews.
-
I'm up, I'm up. Trying to get things done before she of the Evil Eye arrives.
-
Ginny - thanks! At the party last night, I passed out wishbones - I had been saving them for a year, and had more than enough to go around. And we all held ends of the wishbones with the people next to us in a big circle and Wished Them Well... and wished for sun today. We'll see how that works!
-
Mawnin', Bruce! See you - and your "show" tomorrow... OY! If anyone can do this, YOU can!
-
Wow - first post of Page 2! How impressed am I?!??!?!?!?!
-
Maybe a little nap, now...
-
She of the Evil Eye is here, which is more than I can say for any hainsies/kimlets.
Where in tarnation IS everyone?
-
Whew! Sorry, I just got back from tarnation. The traffice this morning was terrible!
-
Longest period without sleep was before my Contracts exam in law school. It was a full-year course, and I had wildly underestimated how much time it would take to get through all the material, since it had been so many years since I'd actually had an exam on material that spanned a whole year of classes. (I think that even in high school, none of our regular exams covered more than a semester's worth of classes.) Plus, the entire grade for the course depended on that one exam, no quizzes along the way or class participation factor to figure in. I did get a B on the exam, which was about as good as I could have expected, given my miscalculation. I had specifically underestimated how material learned back in September and October would require more study and relearning, given that it was the following May already.
-
I don't have to be at LACC until ten-thirty, but she of the Evil Eye is casting her gaze my way, so I guess I'll go do some stuff outside the home environment. After rehearsal, should I still be amongst the living, I shall return.
-
TOD - The longest I've been awake was probably the day our DS Rob was born. I woke up about 2:30am that Saturday, pretty sure we were about to have a baby. He didn't make his appearance until 9pm and I was settled in my room by midnight. About the time I should have been drifting off to sleep, my crazy roommate decided to rearrange the furniture, talk on the phone, and ring for the nurse many, many times. Don't think I really slept until they sent her home as soon as they could. My doctor instructed the hospital staff not to put anyone else in the room with me and he kept me in the hospital almost a whole week - unheard of, even 21 years ago, for a "normal" birth.
-
MR BK - didn't get back in time to tell you BUT - yes, you should replace the goon....but make him go through at least one Saturday rehearsal and waste his time as he has been wasting YOURS.
-
So, DR JRand, is there a trap door in Worlds of Wisdom that sends characters directly to the Information Services Desk here at my library? We seem to have a steady stream today!
-
Good morning! It was a restless night. At 3:33 AM, Callie decided she needed to sit by my ear and purr, how do you get mad about that, so I was awake for awhile and then slept in a little. It was off to the market this morning. Lots of fresh asparagus and rhubarb. I LOVE rhubarb. I am so excited about having time to cook...
-
TOD The longest I've ever stayed up was....hmmm I want to say 36 - 48 hours. I know once was when I was a prosecutor and there had been complaints about some local cops, so I worked all day, rode with one of them all night and then worked all day the next day. I know I had all nighters in both college and I remember on in particular in law school. Our grades were all the final, too. It is hard to try to cram in 4 months of classes and information for one test, but that was the way it was. Of course this doesn't include the all night parties back in the late 70s early 80s, but that's another story
-
~~~~~~~~~~~~VIBES to BK ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yesterday MattH Said:
>I still object to everyone in that DA's office either wanting to or actually sleeping with one another. I was never all that interested in pursuing any of my co-workers and neither were any of the other single teachers I worked with. We all seemed to look elsewhere for companionship.<
Matt, I'm not sure that's so far off, well at least it wasn't when I started in the Public Defender's office in Phoenix in the mid to late 80s. We were almost all in our late 20s and after spending the day discussing sex cases and other sordid things, then heading out for adult beverages together....well, things happened. Of course that was pre-Anita Hill/Clarence Thomas. Things were pretty boring after that.
-
There's an open house at my next door neighbor's house today. I'm going to go and see it. I think they are asking way more than they will get, but I need to see the inside. Actually I hope they get it, that will make what I paid for this house seem even more of a bargain.
-
They are having the annual Tulip Festival in Orange City right now. I'm thinking of driving up either this afternoon or tomorrow. It's pretty cool. Here's a link if anyone is interested.
http://www.octulipfestival.com/
-
Oh, I just noticed today is the last day for the festival....I may not make it
-
I am having a terrible day. I have my computer brightness on 10% just so i can be on here for a minute.
I was out today and my head started really hurting (it might be connected to my neck). Anyhow i stopped and had a muffin. BUt it got worse (i also took 2 motrin).
I have had a couple of very severe migraines in the past. And i was starting to feel really bad. I felt like i was going to throw up, and my arm was numb and tingling. And then my face got that way too (but on ly for a few minutes).
I immediately got driven home and took a fiorinal (for migraines). IT's gone down from 100% pain torture, to 50%. I fell asleep for an hour.
It's funny but my nect pain on thursday was bad to me. But it was only like 20% of what this was like today. I was scared out of my mind (because last time this happened i had to be hospitalized).
When i lay down my neck started tingling. So maybe it is all related. ANd hopefully later i can have the other 1/2 pill muscle relaxant.
Anyhow that is my story. Pretty crummy saturday.
Hope everyone else is doing better.
-
Feel-better vibes to Jennifer.
-
Sanity vibes to BK.
I seem to remember that "I Ain't Down Yet" was the theme for the Wonderama TV show, or was that only for the local NYC version of Wonderama?
-
High-value-of-your-house vibes to Cilla.
Thanks.
Anyone read a good book lately? I recently read Kite Runner and Peace Like a River and loved them both. I'm looking for something to read and am planning a trek to B & N this weekend, so suggestions are welcome
DR CILLA LIZ
TR Pearson's A SHORT HISTORY OF SMALL PLACE is a terrific book.
And DANDELION WINE by Ray Bradbury, if you've never read it.
Yes, we do DR GINNY....and I have sprung the trap several times today.
-
DR PENNY O - the sun followed Mercury into Gemini today, so changes in the weather should be plentiful but brief....doncha think?
Here's the world of the weird department. I went to look at the house next door and the other next door neighbor showed up....turns out it's the mother of an old flame of mine. Someone I didn't get alone with particularly well. It was a shocker to find out she lives 2 doors down
Small world, isn't it
Small and funny and fine. A Stephen Sondheim reference.
-
Yes, DR CILLA LIZ - that is one of the few books I have read that made me laugh out loud.
I am not sure if it was the monkey on the water tower or the whacked out Christmas pageant....or the man on the cruise who died and whose Dance Champion banner froze to his tuxedo....
-
DR JENNIFER - ouch!
-
DAKOTA CELT - welcome to the 70's....when we all used "meds" to feel that way!
Not that this has any relevance to your post, Cilla, but now I can't get that darn Dolly Parton song out of my head:
Two doors down
They're laughing and drinkin', and having a party
Two doors down
They're not aware that I'm around
Cause here I am
Crying my heart out, feelin' sorry while
They're having a party two doors down
I think I'll dry these useless tears
And get myself together
I think I'll wonder down the hall
And have a look around
'Cause I can't stay inside
This lonely room and cry forever
I think I really rather join 'em
Two door down, yeah
Two doors down
They're laughing and drinkin', and having a party
Two doors down
They're not aware that I'm around
'Cause here I am
No longer cryin' an' feelin' sorry
We're having a party just two doors down
I can't believe I'm standin' here
Dry-eyed, all smiles and talkin'
Making conversation with the new love I have found
I ask him if he's like to be alone and we start walkin'
Down the hall to my place waitin' two doors down, yeah
Two doors down
They're laughing and drinkin', and having a party
Two doors down
They're not aware that I'm around
'Cause here I am
Feelin' everything but sorry
We're having our own party two doors down
Oh, oh, oh, oh
I just read THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA and enjoyed it quite a lot. I loved GEEK LOVE by Katherine Dunn, almost as much as CONFEDERACY OF DUNCES, and I think Miss Jane Austen the greatest novelist ever. I also liked the following bios:
Elizabeth I by Alison Weir
Six Wives of Henry VIII by Alison Weir
Marie Antoinette by Antonia Fraser
My brother and I both enjoyed the new history of the search for John Wilkes Booth, MANHUNT, and Jane glover's MOZART'S WOMEN was wonderful.
-
Sorry you've been "ailin'" DR Jennifer. Hope things improve for you soon.
-
I enjoyed watching the end of THE OPPOSITE SEX earlier this afternoon. I always think of DR MBarnum when Jeff Richards walks out in that form fitting outfit and "sings" Rock 'n Roll Tumbleweeds."
-
Oh....now I have to buy a book....MANHUNT....about Mr John Wilkes Booth.
-
I have the movie STARGATE cued up and ready to roll later this evening.
-
And a friend has expressed interest in watching THE PRODUCERS tonight, so I may be going out later to watch the recently released DVD at his house. We'll see.
-
Time will tell.
Where is everybody? They are not at work with me.
Maybe they are at rehearsal with Mr BK. Maybe they are voting for American Idol.
I don't know, man. I just don't know.
DR ELMORE did you get Mario fixed?
-
Off to tend to a few household things before settling in with STARGATE.
WBBL.
DR Elmore, thanks for the suggestions. I think I'm venturing to B & N tomorrow. I was going to go today, but ended up trimming trees at my old house. My neighbor there wanted a couple trimmed so they aren't hanging over her house before the new people move in.
-
DRs Jennifer and Dakota, hope you feel better
-
Ok, how about Rhubarb recipes.....I got 2 pounds at the market today. I love the stuff, but usually just make Rhubarb sauce.
-
Oh heck, I may as well get to 3000 posts
-
I'm getting ready to watch the Preakness Stakes - gotta love it, an hour and a half show for a race that lasts a few minutes..of that long
More Vibes to BK~~~~~~~
Oh man! Barbaro hurt his right hind leg....poor guy. They took him away in the equine ambulance
-
Congrats on 3,000 posts, Cillaliz!!!!!
-
Thanks, FJL!
-
I feel really bad about Barbaro and I'm not even a horse racing fan. But he's got a leg broken in 2 places. I just hope they don't shoot him. You'd think they could do something. He'd still be a good stud if nothing else.
In honor of Barbaro Page 4 horse dance
Feel better vibes to DR DakotaCelt! ~~~~~~~~
Wedding vibes to DR PennyO's family. ~~~~~~~~~
Congrats to Cilla on reaching the 3000 post milestone!!!
Poor Barbaro is right...
-
Gosh that is terrible about the horse! I would have watched if i wasn't so out of it.
Well i did get my wish, head stopped hurting, but neck is killing. Oh well, at least that is something i can tolerate. And i don't have to worry too much. Although i have a neck brace that i looked everywhere for and cannot find it!
Cilla it will depend on where he broke it. If he broke the cannon bone, they may have to euthanize him. If it is in the ankle or shin they might be able to pin it.
-
I think Jennifer and I can commisserate on misery... :-)
-
Good vibes for BK.
This is the first time today that i have been able to focus on the screen. And I am just now reading about yesterday's developments. Wow.
Good luck. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This site has been screwed up for the last hour apparently.
-
I wrote a long post about today's rehearsal, and knowing that it was going to get screwed up, saved it. Then, I forgot I'd saved it, and saved the "too many connections" thing to send to our site host. So, I lost the post.
We managed to stumble through the show - I hadn't seen some of the blocking since I originally did it, and that all seemed fine. My pianist had to leave two hours after he arrived, so he didn't play act two - he's never played act two as a matter of fact. Since he still doesn't have tempos down it's worrisome. And tomorrow isn't going to help much, since he can only be there for ninety minutes at noon, and then isn't back until four. Which means I get no full run-through of this show with him or even a full cast. Which sucks big time. I will have almost everyone in the company tomorrow, but must share two actors who have rarely been at my rehearsals and both of whom have big roles. I won't have one ensemble member, and one of the female leads informed me today that she now has to work the early afternoon shift - she's known this schedule for weeks, but allowed her employers to make her do this at the last minute - sorry, commitment is commitment and she should have said no. She's done nothing but do these people favors. She has a big faux torch song but doesn't have a great singing voice, and I told her I now have to think about cutting the song, because I am NOT letting her do it the way I heard it today. Her only shot is to have enough time to run it with me over and over, and I can't do that and take time away from my other cast members.
Needless to say, this will NEVER EVER happen again. I stopped being an amateur when I was fifteen. My new actor has picked up the blocking and the singing very fast, but he cannot get through one line of dialogue without stumbling and stammering. Hopefully, he'll look at his script tonight. I had to be very loud and very terse today, and I'm sure that everyone in the cast thinks I'm an asshole and I don't give a crap, frankly. I only give a crap about everyone not embarrassing themselves, and me. And if that marks me a bad guy, then so be it.
So, tomorrow all we can do is run what we can run, and then I'm just telling everyone to have a good time. What else can be done?
-
Bingo! Finally got on the site.
****VIBES TO ALL IN NEED OF VIBES!****
I feel a little guilty with all the health issues and other unpleasant events recounted on HHW in the past day or two -- but I've been having a very nice relaxing day.
This is the first weekend in ages that I haven't had any writing to do. It's lovely to just have time. I did a few errands in the old neighborhood, then dropped in on my old neighbors for a nice visit. They just adopted the sweetest cat (and I'm not a cat person)... She's around a year old and has a sad story. She and her sister were owned by a family who lost their home and had to move to live in a motel. The rescue agency said they would take the two cats and find them good homes if they were spayed and got all their shots. The two teenage girls in the family saved up to do that - and the cats were taken by the agency. And now one of them is with my old neighbors - a very nice couple and their little girl (who calls the kitty "my sister"). When the cat ("Sneakers") first arrived, she was understandably scared and went to hide in the closet. The little girl (I think she's three) went and sat with her in the closet for an hour, just chatting with her until she came out. Sweet!
Sneakers has only been with them a week, but when i dropped by seemed totally relaxed and at home. I love happy endings.
Saw The Da Vinci Code last night. I just wanted something that would engage and entertain me for a few hours. Here's my verdict. I'll write it in code: "DAB"... And "OOT GNOL" ..."YAW OOT GNOL"
-
It's up to Francois to save the day.
I'm starving - don't know what to eat, though.
I think I won't jog today - I've just done five days in a row.
-
My biggest decision today was whether to buy a ticket to see MAME in D.C. when some friends happen to be going. I called the Kennedy Center and the woman on the phone was so unfriendly that I wanted to get off the phone with her ASAP,, so I just went on the internet and got the same seat. I'm sure that showed her. :)
Jrand: Yesterday at 10:07:38am »
When did all the soap operas get girls who act and dress like Paris Hilton?
When they went to ABC! ala Desperate Housewives!!
-
Catching up on some past posts...
Micheal you are looking good!
Quote from: JRand55 on Yesterday at 10:07:38am
When did all the soap operas get girls who act and dress like Paris Hilton?
From Elmore: About the same time they started casting the young men for their pecs. Don't tell me there is no casting couch for PASSIONS!
Elmore, that about sums it up for Passions!! Underwear Models!
-
I guess Francois is not going to save the day.
-
The following excerpt from Ben Brantley's Sunday Times article THE DAY THE MUSICALS DIED struck me as interesting, not merely because one wonders why we're hearing what Brantley's nephew had to say, but also because one wonders what horrible thing intermission must have done to be growled at by Brantley's nephew :) :
"With a book by Linda Woolverton and songs by Elton John and Bernie Taupin, "Lestat" turns Ms. Rice's unhappy undead into a group suggesting a bunch of whiny "American Idol" contestants in Regency romance costumes. (My nephew, a fan of the books, growled at intermission: "This is so wrong. These people are supposed to be beautiful.")"
If any New Yorkers see me on the evening of Sept 21st they will see my after aprox. 40 hours with no sleep! i do not sleep on planes.
-
I guess Francois is not going to save the day.
I can try to save the night!
It's 3:40 am here! :D
If any New Yorkers see my on the evening of Sept 21st they will see my after aprox. 40 hours with no sleep! i do not sleep on planes.
Goodness gracious I did not get to see that!! ;D
In honor of the visit on Sept. 21st, a selection from HOT FEET, now playing at the Hilton Theater:
Do you remember the 21st night of september?
Love was changing the minds of pretenders
While chasing the clouds away
Our hearts were ringing
In the key that our souls were singing.
As we danced in the night,
Remember how the stars stole the night away
Ba de ya - say do you remember
Ba de ya - dancing in september
Ba de ya - never was a cloudy day
My thoughts are with you
Holding hands with your heart to see you
Only blue talk and love,
Remember how we knew love was here to stay
Now december found the love that we shared in september.
Only blue talk and love,
Remember the true love we share today
Ba de ya - say do you remember
Ba de ya - dancing in september
Ba de ya - never was a cloudy day
Ba de ya - say do you remember
Ba de ya - dancing in september
Ba de ya - golden dreams were shiny days
-
I try...
-
Maybe they should cast Donny Osmond in Lestat and Brent Barrett in TARZAN!!
-
I don't wanna say show biz is tough, but HOT FEET is doing so poorly that Earth and Wind just laid off Fire. (ba-dum-pum)
-
For some odd reason I have had the Can-Can stuck in my head all day after falling asleep last night after watching Moulin Rouge
-
I don't wanna say show biz is tough, but HOT FEET is doing so poorly that Earth and Wind just laid off Fire. (ba-dum-pum)
HOT FEET is getting cold feet?
-
And one for Molar... as the dentist said!
-
FJL, when will you be seeing Mame? I'm going down with a dear friend next weekend (Memorial Day weekend) arriving in DC on Friday, May 26th and leaving Monday, May 29. We're staying with friends in Dupont Circle. I'm looking forward to it.
-
For some odd reason I have had the Can-Can stuck in my head all day after falling asleep last night after watching Moulin Rouge
I Have Had The Can Can Stuck In My Head
the famous Lilo autobiography? ;)
-
When I see Mame, I'll put the blame on her!
-
I was almost gonna say "And one for Moulin" - in honor of Moulin Rouge, but that would have been silly.
-
Ain't you sorry for all those kimlets who get to see all those musical shows??
I'm green with envy!
-
I was almost gonna say "And one for Moulin" - in honor of Moulin Rouge, but that would have been silly.
I'm glad you refrain from saying it! ;)
Or could have said "And one for Mill, in honor of the Red Mill", but who cares, right?! ;D
-
MAME!!
Do ya like gin, Mamie?
Love it!
Great, after dinner we'll get out the cards and have a game!
-
DR CILLA LIZ - hope I'm not too late, but a rhubarb and strawberry pie, served with vanilla ice cream is hard to beat!!!
I love me some rhubarb pie!
-
It's not because I have nothing to say that I should shut up, right?!
-
Ben - My MAME ticket is for the June 24th matinee. Can't wiat to get your thoughts on it.
I ended up with a box seat, which is where I sat for SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE and MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG a few years ago. It's a little bit set back, but it's a fun way to see a show - a private little room with four people in it and no risk of being blocked by the head of someone tall.
-
DR CILLA LIZ - hope I'm not too late, but a rhubarb and strawberry pie, served with vanilla ice cream is hard to beat!!!
Yes, even with a baseball bat! Too messy! :D
-
Glad you were terse, MR BK.
The only ones who think you acted badly are the guilty ones who caused the behavior. What a bunch of idiots.
Theatre commitments come below school, sports (participating in and/or watching), television shows, jobs, internet appointments, and romance. Everyone wants to be in the show, but NOBODY wants to rehearse.
Ugh!
-
It's not because I have nothing to say that I should shut up, right?!
Never stopped me before, ya know! 8)
-
Who's playing Mame?
Who's playing Mame?
Donny Osmond?
-
Yes, even with a baseball bat! Too messy! :D
;D
Hehehehe.
-
Does anyone remember the movie RHUBARB, about a cat that inherited a bseball team? I recall that was a lot of fun.
-
I tell ya, Rosalind Russell IS Mame....not sure about a musical MAME...is it Christine Baranski who is playing it?
I don't know.....I keep hearing RR.
"Oh what he did to my bust!"
-
Or was that Francois' little joke?
-
Does anyone remember the movie RHUBARB, about a cat that inherited a bseball team? I recall that was a lot of fun.
Yes of course, and in the last issue of SCARLET STREET was an entire article on the career of Rhubarb the cat! 8)
-
Everyone wants to be in the show, but NOBODY wants to rehearse.
Ugh!
Everybody wants to go to Heaven, but nobody wants to die!
Sounds like a song, doesn't it?! ;)
-
DR CILLA LIZ - hope I'm not too late, but a rhubarb and strawberry pie, served with vanilla ice cream is hard to beat!!!
I love me some rhubarb pie!
I agree. I'm looking for recipes. I'm sure I can find one, but if anyone has one they've used that would be great. I haven't done anything with it yet, thought I'd make something tomorrow
-
Where is my Rhubarb Pie? The plant NOT the feline.
-
I thought Lucy Is Mame. Or is it Debra Messing?
-
Or was that Francois' little joke?
There's nothing "little" about me, sweety (rhubarb) pie!! ;)
-
I agree. I'm looking for recipes. I'm sure I can find one, but if anyone has one they've used that would be great. I haven't done anything with it yet, thought I'd make something tomorrow
I've watched my mom make the pie, but like the three little kittens, I only eat it myself. ;D
I hope you can find the Pearson book - it's terrific!
-
Hey New Yorkers, Frances Farmer's film noir AMONG THE LIVING will be shown Monday night. I can find the venue if anyone is interested.
Hmmm, maybe I'll just go to the store and see if they have any fresh rhubarb pie and buy some ice cream.....that would be much easier, Then I can make something else.
-
Where is my Rhubarb Pie? The plant NOT the feline.
Rhubarb makes me go to the bathroom, and you all had to know about it!
And I get a strange "feline" when in there!!
-
Life is a banquet and most poor sons of bitches are starving to death....
I say get them some rhubarb pie
-
Hmmm, maybe I'll just go to the store and see if they have any fresh rhubarb pie and buy some ice cream.....that would be much easier, Then I can make something else.
Now I have to go to the store. I want rhubarb pie. We used to grow our own when we lived in the country.
I stopped eating it when I saw the neighbor's dogs pee on the leaves. :P
I have a question....
If an actor has more than five lines, isnt he supposed to appear in the credits?
-
My program is slow to open....
-
Funkytown was a song recorded by Lipps Inc. and then covered famously by some all-male group.
-
My program is slow to open....
That's what I've heard!!! :o ??? :-X ;D ;D
-
I enjoyed watching the end of THE OPPOSITE SEX earlier this afternoon.
Yes, I have heard many men say that same thing.
I have a question....
If an actor has more than five lines, isnt he supposed to appear in the credits?
Five lines of coke?! :o
-
Yes, I have heard many men say that same thing.
;D ;D
-
Jrand, have you ever done numerology?
Not much.....
As for lines and billing - depends on SAG or AFTRA contracts ....
-
Well....I guess I have to take a shower now. We will play what happened the day I was born another time.
Sorry.....
You people are all crazy!
-
You boys behave yourselves now!
-
I have but my name is not Jrand!! ;D
REally???? Gotta love a drug induced haze... I know this one said not to operate motorized vehicles and perhaps that means also the Information highway.... Good thing I have not crashed --- YET!
You boys behave yourselves now!
Tomovoz - Yes, I should have remembered Pseudo Echo. Really. Really.
Why didn't you, didn't you, didn't you?? ;)
-
I am not bragging... just stating a fact :)
-
Does anyone remember who recorded a song that had a lyric that went something like:
The last time should have been the last time
The last time should have been the last time
I don't want to talk about it.
-
If any New Yorkers see me on the evening of Sept 21st they will see my after aprox. 40 hours with no sleep! i do not sleep on planes.
That's okay, I have a friend that is going to New Zealand in September, and she doesn't use the bathrooms on airplanes. Hmmm, where is Irwin Allen when you need him!
-
Donny Osmond is going to join the cast of Sweeney Todd and will play the piccolo!
Or is it the French Horn!
Can't remember!
-
Psuedo Echo, not familiar with them
-
I cant see him in that role
-
I think Donny will make a fine Gaston. I'm looking forward to that performance.
-
Donny may play the Invisible Man as well. I can't see him in THAT role.
-
I think Donny will make a fine Gaston. I'm looking forward to that performance.
I know a Gaston who could make a fine Donny!
-
Did anyone buy the FAME first season DVD?
That would imply I was going to watch it.
-
I kniow he was in Joseph and hte Amazing Technicolor Dream coat
-
Donny may play the Invisible Man as well. I can't see him in THAT role.
Gee, I can tell you've been around.... and so has he in this part! ;)
Hmm, maybe i should reconsider my thinking on him
But seriously, does anyone know Donny's start date in BEAUTY AND THE BEAST?
-
But seriously, does anyone know Donny's start date in BEAUTY AND THE BEAST?
Oh did you hear that?
"But SERIOUSLY???????"
We're always SERIOUS here! So serious that it hurts!
Broadway Talk mentioned that the other day.....
-
Donny Osmond will be making his return to Broadway as Gaston in Disney’s BEAUTY AND THE BEAST. He will begin performances on Tuesday, September 19th at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre (205 West 46th Street) for a limited 9-week engagement.
-
We've had us a frenzy.
-
Gee, Tom will be able to see Donny as Gaston!
-
Oh, Tom's gone! All this graziness has gotten the best out of him!
-
Hmmm...Donny is surfacing just in time for the arrival of Tomovoz.
-
Coincidence? I think not.
-
We've had us a frenzy.
Yes, kimlets and hainsies know what "commitment" means! ;)
-
One thing i can remember Donny singing "I am a little bit rock and roll!"
One thing i can remember Donny singing "I am a little bit rock and roll!"
... and Mary was a little bit country!
Just read some more on Barbaro. He is done racing. His break was not in a good location with the break occuring above the ankle. Hopefully surgery will stabilize the break enough that he can be used for stud.
-
and she had a song called Paper Roses
Now she has.... dolls!
She used to have a little lamb, I'm told!
ANd you dont look a day past 25!
-
I've now officially been 25 for 21 years. My 25th birthday can now legally drink.
-
Cool and I am not a day past 29!!
-
I remember an argument about whether Frankie Michaels of MAME or Daisy Egan of SECRET GARDEN was the youngest Tony winner ever. Soemone asked how old Frankie Michaels had been at the time, and the answer was "Somewhere between ten...and death."
-
Mame certainly gets over Beauregard's death pretty quickly, doesn't she? I mean, even for a musical comedy!
-
Funny how age arguments go...
Age, IMHO, is how old you feel mentally.. If you feel young, by all means, be young!
-
Mame certainly gets over Beauregard's death pretty quickly, doesn't she? I mean, even for a musical comedy!
She bounces back quickly
-
Mame certainly gets over Beauregard's death pretty quickly, doesn't she? I mean, even for a musical comedy!
Yes, she had no time toulouse, err... to lose!
-
She bounces back quickly
Many men could attest to that, as well as Vera! ;)
-
As Lucy didn't sing in the MAME movie, that's how young I feel.
-
Funny how age arguments go...
Age, IMHO, is how old you feel mentally.. If you feel young, by all means, be young!
Mentally I feel 10, physically I feel 80! Oy!
Yeah! I wish my first name were Victor! ;)
Or... Robert, or.....
isn't Vera's line "somewhere between 40 and death" I'm thinking it's 40
-
As Lucy didn't sing in the MAME movie, that's how young I feel.
That's how young she felt about the song!
-
Bouncy, bouncy, bouncy
-
isn't Vera's line "somewhere between 40 and death" I'm thinking it's 40
Yes, but Frankie was FAR from 40 then!
More than one bad apple spoilt the whole bunch!
From the MAME liner notes:
"Deciding that she is to write her memoirs, they have sent Gooch to Speedo, raising her shorthand to two hundred words per minute."
They sent Gooch to Speedo, huh?
-
AT least Kylie has a voice... She beats Jessica Simpson and Brittany Spears by a long shot...
Love ABBA, a few of Whitney Houston's songs,
Love Elton John, Paul McCartney, Journey, Phil Collins,
Wanted to see Aida but did nto get a chance
Yes, she has... If i remember her first song in the US was one called Locomotion.
-
I liked the group INXS
BeeGees
-
Feel better vibes to all who need them.
-
My mom and sister arrived this morning bright and early at 8AM. The first thing we all did was go back to sleep. Them because they had been on a redeye flight from California with a screaming baby, and me because I'd had a bit too much sake the night before.
-
We then had a late lunch/early dinner at Brooklyn Diner and then hit the village/soho area to walk around and shop a bit.
-
Drugs do help for the funky haze
-
Tomorrow, my mom and I will be up bright and early to make our way to Central Park for the AIDS Walk! It's my mom's first and as I mentioned in earlier posts, my sixth.
-
Happy walking vibes please!
-
Locomotion . already been a BIG HIT twice before in the USA and three times here.!! At that time she was a wind up doll for UK producers/money men Stock Aitken Waterman.
-
Restless. Watching a DVD. Wrote an unpleasant but necessary e-mail. Probably should have sent the one I wrote three weeks ago. Shifting sands. Change. Hate it all. We'll see what reaction the e-mail gets - or not. Nervous about tomorrow night and Monday night. Once that's done, I have to reassess many, many things. Don't know where all that will head, but one way or another it's going to head somewhere.
-
Happy walking vibes indeed!
"Walking Happy"
-
I don't think you could call anything that Lucy did in MAME singing. Still, I watched the widescreen laserdisc another time this week. A continuing guilty pleasure, and I remember how much I loved the show on stage with the two Broadway Mames I saw: Janis Paige and Ann Miller.
-
Happy Walking vibes
-
Have fun vibes for TPunk and her company
-
Great walking vibes to TPunk!
-
Tonight, I started the evening with STARGATE. Although this is my friend Hal's favorite sci-fi movie, I realized that I had never seen it all the way through. The newest release of the film on DVD is wonderful looking for the most part (an occasional speck of dirt mars the image once and a while but not often), and the new DTS 6.1-ES soundtrack is mind-blowing. I had to lower the volume of my system for fear of either blowing out some speakers or cracking some window glass. Like the remake of WAR OF THE WORLDS, the bass was so deep and heavy and constant that I actually felt air from the subwoofer whooshing at me at certain points during the film.
Kurt Russell looked marvelous, BTW. A very entertaining sci-fi movie.
-
BK, is it possible that for future end-of-term presentations, it might be useful to do a revue, so that you can just say the-heck-with-those-people about the people who can't be trusted?
-
Next came THE PRODUCERS. I didn't see the film at the theater, so this was my first experience with the musical as a movie.
I saw all of the original cast on Broadway in this and loved it. On film, it's too broad, way too much of everything and everyone. Still, had I not seen it before, I would be SO grateful to have this as a souvenir of the show. No, the direction is not innovative or anything other than rudimentary, but it gets the job done. I didn't miss the songs that were dropped, though it was nice to see "The King of Old Broadway" in the deleted scenes. With it missing from the film, there is a long gap between the opening number and the next song.
I enjoyed the movie overall (the transfer is gorgeous), but I can see why it didn't go over any bigger than it did.
Tonight, I started the evening with STARGATE. Although this is my friend Hal's favorite sci-fi movie, I realized that I had never seen it all the way through. The newest release of the film on DVD is wonderful looking for the most part (an occasional speck of dirt mars the image once and a while but not often), and the new DTS 6.1-ES soundtrack is mind-blowing. I had to lower the volume of my system for fear of either blowing out some speakers or cracking some window glass. Like the remake of WAR OF THE WORLDS, the bass was so deep and heavy and constant that I actually felt air from the subwoofer whooshing at me at certain points during the film.
Kurt Russell looked marvelous, BTW. A very entertaining sci-fi movie.
I gues for me the deep bass would be normal.. I could hear it properly..
Off to bed now.
Good night, everyone!
BK, is it possible that for future end-of-term presentations, it might be useful to do a revue, so that you can just say the-heck-with-those-people about the people who can't be trusted?
Taht would be an idea to explore if he so desired...
Am I reading the stats incorrectly, or has what started out as a slow day turned out to be the highest posting day since the 200,000 plateau?
-
Did anyone buy the FAME first season DVD?
I bought it. I remember that I LOVED it when it was originally on. I've only watched a few episodes, but sadly, it hasn't aged well. ::)
I know the feeling and the reality DR George!
Today, I went to work for a few hours then met my friend Margo and her youngest daughter at Applebee's. I had their new Southwest Cobb Salad (Grilled chipotle chicken, shredded cheese, broccoli, diced tomatoes, shredded carrots, corn and black beans served on a bed of mixed greens. Finished with a side of cilantro ranch dressing, except that the cilantro dressing was not on the side...and there was too much broccoli :P) and their new (to me) crispy bread pudding (Golden fried cubes of cinnamon-sugar-coated bread pudding are crisp on the outside and creamy on the inside. Served with vanilla ice cream and drizzled with a rich caramel sauce). It was quite good. I must never have this again, or I'll never lose weight!
After that I went to Target and bought some small garbage bags (exciting, isn't it??) and when I got home, my sister's boyfriend was mowing my lawn and I don't know why! He's retiring at the end of the month, so maybe he's thinking about picking up a little extra spening money. ;) I thanked him very much (I really don't like to do any kind of yard work...never have, never will ;D).
-
Anyway, I checked my mail and I got the new Sunday In the Park With George (http://www.psclassics.com/cd_sunday.html). I've listened to the first CD (act one) and I think it's wonderful...so far. They use British accents for the first half (when they're all French) and have passable American accents in the second act.
I have had that salad.. It is good
I just heard a lyric change: in "It's Hot Up Here" at the beginning of the second act, instead of "And the baby has no diapers," they sing, "And the baby has no nappies." Interesting. :)
-
I've had the Applebee crispy bread pudding. It made my list when we were doing favorite desserts day here a while back.
-
With the Sunday CD, I also got the new John Bucchino revue, "It's Only Life (http://www.psclassics.com/cd_itsonlylife.html)[/b]." I have his CD, "Grateful: The Songs of John Bucchino (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00004SBV2/sr=8-2/qid=1148187080/ref=pd_bbs_2/102-4779504-7364131?%5Fencoding=UTF8). I LOVE this CD. ;D I also got the songbook and have performed a couple of the songs.
According to his listing on imdb.com (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0400311/), he's 47 years old now and doesn't have any movie credits after 2001. But doing a quick Google search, THIS (http://www.bethsdayspage.com/days/nowhi.html) site lists a few things he's done since then. ;)
