Well, you've read the notes, the notes were nuclear, and now it is time for you to post until the nuclear cows come home. They're having a nuclear moodown.
-
And the word of the day is: CESSPOOL!
-
Rather than wander through the cesspool regions of my mind, I shall endeavour to address the topic of the day in a sensible manner. Perhaps!
-
And my first suggestion would be a biography of Tommy "Snuff" Garrett.
Mr Garrett produced very successful recordings for Gene McDaniels, Vicki Lawrence, Bobby Vee, Gary Lewis, Eddie Cochrane, Johnny Burnette, Brian Hyland, Walter Brennan and Cher.
His "Fifty Guiitars" recordings were also successful in the early years of "Stereophonic" discs.
-
I also know part of the story of another interesting man who was involved in many non professional theatre productions in a number of cities in two countries. He was involved with the initial production of musical works and for a time with puppet theatre.
He had a great love of theatre and cinema and had a joy in living despite major family traumas and amazing battles with health issues throughout his all too short life. His legacy is in the effects his life has had on those with whom he came into contact during his working, theatrical and private life. A remarkable and unselfish life.
Yes - OzDerek.

Good morning DR Ben.
-
Good morning Tom. I'm up very early and don't know why. It's 5:30 on Saturday morning.
-
7.30 Saturday night here. We are about to watch the DVD of "The Producers" - interesting for us as we saw the production in NY in its first few weeks.
Thus: Goodnight DR Ben.
-
Snow White, Aurora, Cinderella, Ariel, Belle and Jasmine all decided it was time to learn how to type and take shorthand. They then teamed together and became the Disney Secretarial PrinCESS POOL. Unfortunately, they all stank.
::)
-
A biography has been written about lyricist Dorothy Fields, but it's featherweight. Given all the big names she teamed with (Jerome Kern and Cy Coleman, to name just two), and the scope of her career, I'm certain something better could be written.
-
It's not a "youa cake," my loving der B, it's a Yuwa cake.
The Yuwa are a small tribe in northeastern New Mexico, mostly sheepherders. The Yuwa cake is made from corn meal, without levening, so it more accurately should be called a Yuwa flatbread. And since it is fried in rendered sheep fat, rather than baked in an oven, the phrase "I could bake Yuwa cake" is totally inaccurate.
With over three hundred cookbooks in our house, I'd think you'd know this sort of thing.
::)
-
Dear BK, please don't do anything while you are angry.
-
Oh, nuclear meltdown.
That's unfortunate. But with Mercury in Taurus, how could it be avoided. Good advice from DR TOMovOZ, MR BK. At least a hesitation until after tomorrow when the new moon will still be bright, but not so active on our emotional tides.
But you know best....I think you have given us hints in the notes and messages....
Hmmmm....
-
Well to get out of that cesspool....and into one of my own:
THE PAJAMA GAME revival cast CD is coming out on Tuesday. I have ordered mine (it is some kind of 2 disk Harry Connick thing, or so says Amazon.com) - I am very excited to get my paws on it!
Cos we clunk clunk Steam Heat. We clunk clunk Steam Heat. We got cluck clunk Steam Heat....
-
Well this is our Once A Year Day....
I would of course like to do a biography of Miss Allison Hayes - using information that I have that there was not room for in my two-part Internet bio of her.
I know that DR JMK would like to do a definitive bio on Ms Frances Farmer correcting some impressions about her that are widely held, but WRONG.
Perhaps we will also get a bio of Mr B.I.G. - producer of ATTACK OF THE PUPPET PEOPLE and BEGINNING OF THE END, etc., etc. etc. DR MBARNUM can do that one.
-
DRs ELMORE, GINNY, CILLA LIZ, and PENNYO are all out of their home environments....and wasn't DR BEN traveling as well?
All I get to do is go to work!
-
Are the Pogues headed for the Kentucky Derby today? Or are they having a par-tay?
-
Off to work...and I don't mean writing my biography of AH.
-
Morning all!
Good wishes for all who are not in their home environment right now.
Today will be an “easy” day. I’ve already got the first load of clothes in the washer then I have to go out and turn the water off to the house (after the washer is done washing) and install a new handle/stem for the bathtub. Then the usual grocery shopping.
Since Brandi passed away there isn’t so much dog food to buy. Bear still is hardly eating. You can see that he is losing weight. I keep wresting with the thought of getting him another buddy. I may have to make another stop by the pound.
VixMom, I hope the Vixter picked out some things she really wanted for her Birthday with the gift cards she received.
When I was kid, my parents would offer me either money or they would buy me something. I always took the money so I could get what I wanted. But I fully admit I spoiled rotten. Lord knows if I ever said, “I want that.” I got it.
Yes, Jane. I do remember that Tshirt!
You know what else is cool? That fishbowl that David Blaine is in. It’s where DR Elmore and I went to see Michael Ball in “Patience”. I have to say that it’s wonderful to look at place on TV and think, “I’ve been there!” Travel does that for a person, I guess.
I got to watch “The Adventures of Errol Flynn” last night. Very interesting and I guess that fits the TOD since I think I would write about him. It hurts to know if he had taken better care of himself we could have still had him with us.
Dear BK whatever the problem is with you and your friend, don’t act in haste. Please ask yourself if what ever it is in the here and now worth losing a friendship that lasted for years and would be there in the future.
-
BK, remember the man who was troubled about a dilemma...until he met a man who was troubled about a trilemma.
-
Tomovoz, you should do an Ozderek bio, or even an essay. Just the part of the man's story you know sounds very fascinating.
-
Me, I'd like to do a George Segal bio. Or Barbara Harris.
-
I also know part of the story of another interesting man who was involved in many non professional theatre productions in a number of cities in two countries.
I was just thinking about him this morning. I miss him and I only knew him through his posts. I can only imagine the loss you who had the joy of having him share your lives must still feel.
-
I think we had this question once before and I said my grandfather, That still stands. Gott a run, appointments call! LATERS!!!
-
Actually finished the big project and the client will have it in their hands on Monday morning, FedEx willing, so my weekend is officially tax-work-free. I'm hoping they look it over on Monday or by early Tuesday, so that I can make any changes (hopefully there will be none). If they have changes while I'm away after Tuesday, I'd have to talk someone through making the changes, and that wouldn't be pretty. But I figure we told the client I'd be out of town starting Wednesday, so they're on notice.
-
Good morning!
Absolutely borgeous day here. I have my office window open, and a cool breeze is blowing. It's great to be alive.
-
I think three time Oscar winner, producer. composer, and lyricist Roger Edens deserves an in-depth biography. Alas, the man who could probably have written it best, Leonard Gershe, is also gone from among us.
-
Looking forward to some DVDs myself today: SWEET BIRD OF YOUTH will definitely be first. And I want to get to THREE LITTLE WORDS at some point this weekend.
-
And I want to get to THREE LITTLE WORDS at some point this weekend.
And they are: HOUSE CLEAN NOW!
-
Good morning, all! I am all caught up, totally informed, and ready to face what could be a lovely Ohio day. My father has lost 20 lbs and looks fantastic! Unfortunately, it's not a diet I'd recommend to my worse enemy.
On the health front, he's positive about this first chemo treatment coming up around May 17, and his spirits are good. This evening is the wedding anniversary of one of my brothers, and my father is taking the entire Moore clan to dinner.
My nephew Matt bought a total stark-raving redneck truck yesterday, so we spent the morning checking it out: very shiny and quite noisy. Matt's quite enamoured of it, and I believe it gives his stepbrother Cory's truck a run for its money.
My sister-in-law Jo Ann, whose anniversary is today, had a fantastic meal of barbecued shrimp, spare ribs and salad waiting for us last night, so I'm quite content at the moment.
TOD: I have to give some thought to that one.
-
I'm baaaacccck.
Yes, JR is of course right, not only would I like to write a bio of FF, I am writing a bio of FF, though it is not a typical biography. It is more about my journey finding out the truth about this enigmatic woman (I just typed enigmanic--where's Dr. Freud when you need him?). It is tentatively titled The Frances Labyrinth and will probably be available circa 2025 or so. :)
Re: Barbara Harris. This is one of my 4 or so anecdotes that I share regularly. Ms. Harris evidently rented from my Uncles for years in NYC. When my last Uncle died and I went back to NYC to clean up his estate, we were going through his office and came upon a locked drawer in a file cabinet or desk (can't remember which). We of course thought we would discover mounds of cash and/or treasures. In breaking open the drawer we were instead greeted with hundreds of PR photos of Ms. Harris, many of which were personally inscribed to my Uncle. Weird, eh? A couple of years ago Jeff Sweet forwarded Ms. Harris' Arizona address to me and I wrote her (I had just MD'd The Apple Tree, so there was at least a semi-non-stalking tack to my tome) and told her about our "find" and asked her if she remembered my Uncles and why he would have so many pics of her. I never heard back from her. ;)
I have personally witnessed a BK Three Mile Island, if not a complete Chernobyl. Be afraid, be very afraid. And whatever you do, have some Sudafed handy. :)
-
I'm up, I'm up - I wish I could stay and sleep some more, but she of the Evil Eye will arrive any minute - I'll kill some time here, then leave and wander ailmlessly for a few hours, after which, I shall return.
-
She of the Evil Eye has arrived. I'm quite tired, but I think I'll go out to the garage and at least package up what I need to ship. I was thinking about jogging, but it is very chilly and gray out.
-
Mornin' all~
Elmore - great news about your visit with the family. Continued best wishes for happiness in the bosom of the clan...
Bruce - the death of illusion is more shattering in many ways than the death of loved ones... give yourself time to grieve, and try to focus on whatever good has come of the longtime association. We are creative beings - whatever stimulates and nurtures our imagination and creativity is a gift.

May I call you, if the phone is working???

LOL. We were in LA last week.
Have you decided to stay in your house and not move?

LOL. We were in LA last week.
Have you decided to stay in your house and not move?
We're still considering moving. We just looked at a house yesterday--wasn't quite right. Have another "viewing" this coming week. But in the meantime, we've done a ton o' stuff here--new Andersen windows, new couch, new blinds in the living room.
And after almost a year of sanding, I have the damaged hardwood floor *almost* looking OK (from the Bacharach files, LOL). Do any of you have recommendations on what to varnish it with? It's a Swedish finish on light Oak. I have tried both a water based polycrylic and Watco so far, but they both darken the sanded area considerably. Am I up a creek, or is there something I can use that won't affect the color of the sanded area?
-
Elmore glad your visit is an upbeat one. Is your father continuing to loose weight or has his appetite returned?
He's eating well, and he looks great. I don't think he wants to put the 20 lbs back.

FRENCH WAR HEROES

HOW I SERVED MY COUNTRY
by Jane Fonda
etc....
Der Brucer – Even taking the “right wing bias” into account, I can’t let the Jane Fonda “joke” pass without comment. Sometimes a person serves his/her country best by questioning the actions of that country. That’s not only a right, but, contrary to the beliefs of the present regime, it’s a duty. Fonda put her career and everything else on the line to protest a war that was killing tens of thousands of young Americans (over 50 thousand by the time it ended) and hundreds of thousands of Vietnamese civilians – men, women and children.
She’s admitted that she made a big mistake posing sitting on the Vietcong anti-aircraft gun. She’s apologized countless times for that mistake. How many of us do not have something akin to that - in one way or another - in our past? And how many of us have the guts to say, “I made mistake. It was a stupid thing to do. I’m sorry.”
I actually think that were Ms. Fonda to write a book about how she served her country - and continues to do so in her work with unwed mothers in Georgia, and many other philanthropic and political causes - it would be quite a massive volume.
End of rant.
(And I was kicked off AOL when I first wrote this - so this is the second rant!)
-
Glad to hear your dad's doing well and looking great, DR Elmore. Continued good vibes!
-
JMK, have you had any help with stores that only sell wood floor products?
Initially when we began our remodeling projects the ideal was to fix up & house & maybe sell. Now we love the house too much.

Maria, I admire the fact that Jane Fonda apologized for some of her actions back then. However, having spoken to many ex-servicemen who were in Vietnam at the time I can understand their feelings towards her to this day. I wish they could let it go as she wasn’t the only protester, just the one with the best press.

I can understand their feelings, as well. And I think a great deal of the hatred towards her comes from those photos. It's one of those terrible mistakes in life that there is no way of taking back.
-
Stimulating as this is, I must get back to my writing. Laters!
-
Twins.
I have two twin comments (how apropos, don't both of you think? ;D):
First, for your obscure Frances Farmer reference of the day: You and Albert Dekker (JR can 'splain it later). ;)
Second, more generally accessible and still hilarious to me to this day. As some of you know, DS Betsy was a long time news anchor. One day I was with her in the newsroom and happened upon an "AP Pronunciation Guide," which, IIRC, was tailored specifically to the great NW and its many weird Indian names. Anyway, said guide had page after page of two columns: left column, the word, right column, the pronunciation. My favorite entry, which left me literally weak with laughter:
WORD PRONUNCIATION

This has been a running joke in our marriage (sad, I know, yet true).

Well, I'm happy to report that the nausea that I've been experiencing for the last couple of days has left me. And I'm very sad to report that it has been replaced with...another condition, but one that starts with the letter "D." AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!! Will this madness ever end?? :P

It is Kentucky Derby Day, pretty much a state holiday here in KY. In direct contrast to the huge party we usually threw in LA, we are having only three other couples today. Nonetheless, Julieanne has laid out her usual magnificent feast...particularly the b-b-q chicken BK loves and her famous Bourbon Balls.
My money's one Sinister Minister...simply because I find far too many ministers sinister these days!

My day at the library is drawing to a close. I've been reading "The Devil Wears Prada" and occasionally laughing over it. I've screwed up the library's computer systems twice today, and I shall be e&t tomorrow and back on Monday.
The good news is that I heard from our DR Jose, who now has a New York phone number. Happy Day!

Punchline for Lost devotees vis a vis last week's episode (spoiler alert):
About a nanosecond after last week's episode ended, Betsy turned to me and said, "Well, now we know why those two got busted for DUI--they must have just found out they had been written out of the hottest show on TV and were out drowning their sorrows." :)
-
LOL!! ;D
-
Hmmm...
I still haven't had time to watch the Lost ep in question. It's a good thing I don't give a sh!t about spoilers.
And the amount of time I'll have available keeps shrinking. The schedule for next week has me at the store for 38 hours, over six days. This is for a "part time" job. :-\
-
Time to get started on dinner. A nice, cold potato-leek soup sounds good, but it will take a bit of time to get cooled down. That and a salad. Yummers.
-
She of the Evil Eye is gone, I have had a brisk jog, and I'm now watching a DVD, and then this evening I shall toddle off to see Moon Over Buffalo - I didn't care for it on B'way, so I can't imagine it will be any more enjoyable at LACC and, of course, it could potentially be a LOT less enjoyable.
-
Right now, I'm listening to Donald's radio interview with Kevin Spirtas and it's quite delightful! However, "Untitled Clip 4" doesn't work! Did anyone else have a problem with this clip? Did anyone let Donald know?

And the word of the day is: CESSPOOL!
Is that the sign in a French YMCA?
-
JRand, technically Penny has returned to her home environment, just doesn’t seem so as she is so rarely there.
Penny that is how I see it, yet you didn't comment. ;D
Well, technically, I have been "out of the home environment" for 6 years... once I left the Redmond WA house, I have been mostly On The Road... but, yes, the cabin is my Official Home Environment, the place my belongings call Home, the Main Mailing Address for the Body My Memories call Home...
-
Looking forward to some DVDs myself today: SWEET BIRD OF YOUTH will definitely be first. And I want to get to THREE LITTLE WORDS at some point this weekend.
I have no idea why, but THREE LITTLE WORDS is one of my absolute favorite movie musicals.
-
I like that movie a lot, too, kiddo.
-
I've been reading the notes as I could find time, haven't had much time to read the posts, so any info you care to impart.... ??? ;D
Oh! So you did miss what I wrote about you? Whew.
-
I just turned on the TV to check and the Genesis Awards are indeed on here (LA) at 2 -- so probably 5 out east. Animal Planet. I've turned it off now and left TIVO to do her job. But they showed some cute animals - both in the clips and on stage. The Katrina section, on in the last hour of the show, is very moving (or was in person) with a heroic dog as the special guest of the night. She got a standing O from us -- one of the few times recently that I haven't been reluctant to stand.
-
****Feel better vibes, DR George!****

I agree.

Thanks, Maria! ;D

PennyO, I waved at you when you drove by on I-5. Did you see me?
-
Was watching THERE'S NO BUSINESS LIKE SHOW BUSINESS earlier. Always entertaining. But Johnny Ray's acting? Yeow!
-
Spent a wonderful afternoon on the phone with a good friend and then with the Hammer Production of HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES. The DVD is not anamorphic (1.66:1 on MGM, no surprise there), but it looked very good. I hadn't watched it all the way through in awhile. Too bad Peter Cushing didn't do a whole series of Holmes movies.
-
Then, I put in JOHNNY GUITAR, a DVD-R I burned off the Encore Western channel some months ago. Looks good.
I'll be getting to SWEET BIRD OF YOUTH tonight, I think. There isn't much on TV to distract me.
-
I have no idea why, but THREE LITTLE WORDS is one of my absolute favorite movie musicals.
The only reason I saved it until last in that latest box of MGM musicals is that I had watched the commercial videotape of it just a month or so ago. The others in the box I hadn't seen in much longer periods.
I'll probably get to it tomorrow.
-
I hope things get back to normal for you soon, DR George.
-
George! And on your birthday weekend. That is really the s**tz. Can't you ask your sister to go to the store for you?
-
Thanks Matt and TCB. Actually, I think I'm doing okay...things have slowed down (if you know what I'm sayin' ;)) and I feel pretty good. And my sister and niece went to Seattle for the day. But I found that I do have some basmati rice (as recommended by Dear Nurse Jane), but I've never made rice before. We'll see how that goes! ;D
-
Rice is a staple at my house. I cook it at least twice a week.

Off to do somereading and then settle back in with more TV.

However, having spoken to many ex-servicemen who were in Vietnam at the time I can understand their feelings towards her to this day. I wish they could let it go as she wasn’t the only protester, just the one with the best press.
I agree Jane, Maria presented a beautifully written post. I have not always agreed with what Ms. Fonda has stated but I do think she has made valid points and she always gone out of her way to present them. I have respect for a person who articulates an argument with respect and dignity. IMHO, her gifts outweigh a few misguided words that were perhaps taken out of context by the press. We are human and subject to err. Perhaps I am ignorant of that period for I was just a kid then and other things interested me far more. Also the school I attended never covered the Vietnam War at all and it was only after I graduated that I learned more about it.
Living in a very narrowminded part of the country, I have to remind myself that everyone walks to a different drummer and that is what makes us unique. If one is openminded and willing to explore new ideas and concepts it is amazing what we can learn from each other.
-
Page 4 dance!

I can understand their feelings, as well. And I think a great deal of the hatred towards her comes from those photos. It's one of those terrible mistakes in life that there is no way of taking back.
That is very true. Pictures don't lie and tends to be the inflammatory that get drilled into the pscyhe of a person.
Good writing vibes Maria...

Lots here in the wintertime (golf courses, you know), and a few hang around all year.

Not exactly wild but in the garden yesterday!!

My favourite season is Autumn - and this is a continent of non deciduous trees! I'm looking forward to being in Canada and the NW states in October.

Magnus is very handsome.

He's "77" now but still thinks he is a pup. Always the affectionate one.
I'll post a pic of his more standoffish sister!

The other 77 year old.

George! Can't you ask your sister to go to the store for you?
I'm so glad you said that. I went for a walk & the entire time kept thinking I should have asked that very same question.
George did the basmati turn out okay?
-
My friend and muse Margaret called to tell me she's in love with my new play, and thinks it's the best thing I've written. What's fascinating about the comments I've gotten is that I set out to write a 60s-style (but today) comedy - something with a lot of laughs and a little heart. But apparently I've written something more - more heart and something that says a little something about young people today vs. older people today. Isn't that funny? Who knew? Anyway, that made me feel better, and she gave me her sage advice about how to deal with the problem I'm faced with.
-
Thank you for the pic DearReader Laura.
This is yesterday's photo from our garden.
Are those magic mushrooms?

Now if I can just locate some fairies to add to the photo!
Turn the camera around!

I'm so glad you said that. I went for a walk & the entire time kept thinking I should have asked that very same question.
George did the basmati turn out okay?
According to the directions, it's now done soaking (the timer literally just went off) and I'm about to turn on the stove. I'll let you know. :)
-
I was expecting the expected!
I suspect I'd be seeing more than fairies if I were to eat the toadstools TCB.
-
I forgot about soaking the basmati. I don't bother when I use olive oil. The way you are making it is better for you right now, gentler on the stomach.
-
Right now, I'm listening to Donald's radio interview with Kevin Spirtas and it's quite delightful! However, "Untitled Clip 4" doesn't work! Did anyone else have a problem with this clip? Did anyone let Donald know?
I just checked the Donald's radio show and it's all better! I did send PM to Donald. I don't know if he did something or if something was just temporarily having a problem, but it all seems to be fine, now. :D
-
Those are beautiful, Tomovoz
DR Laura, all the photos are beautiful.
-
So, once the rice starts simmering (for 35 minutes), you don't touch it? And is it supposed to smell like popcorn?
-
Check your mail TCB!
-
Check you mail TCB!
Okay, I checked my male.
-
Periodically I search sites with dogs or cats in need of a home. Sometimes a pair of dogs or a pair of cats will be listed. Does anyone know of a site with a pair consisting of one dog & one cat?
-
The rice is finished and is...okay. The instructions say to simmer on "medium" heat for 35 minutes, which is what I did, but about five minutes before it was supposed to be done, I checked it. I'm glad I did because the rice on the bottom was burned! Not horribly and not a lot of it, just the bottom layer. It was quite crispy-crunchy. :P The rest of it was not too bad. I also probably added too much oil, but I think a good first try. :)

-
Of course they also played Green Tambourines so their judgment may not be that sound.
-
The more traditional production of "The King and I" starred Rice Stevens.
OK. I'm missing FJL's contributions.
-
I shall now shower and perhaps then be on my way to LACC to see Moon Over Buffalo.
-
George, 35 minutes seems too long to me. I hope it helps.
-
George, 35 minutes seems too long to me. I hope it helps.
Thanks. It could've been that or that the temperature was too high, but that's what the directions say. Obviously, I will make some adjustments the next time I make it.
-
I could try it in the microwave, but that says 35 minutes, also.
-
Well, I have to take a shower and watch some DVDs and videos. I'll be back later.
Thanks for the help, Jane!
-
You are welcome-just feel better. I hope your new diet didn't cause any of your problems.
-
PennyO, I waved at you when you drove by on I-5. Did you see me?
Oh, that was YOU?!?!?!?!?!
-
Hi Penny.
-
Yo, Jane.
-
Seems we're alone here...
-
Ozman's dawgs are so beautiful, don't you think?
-
I haven't heard of a site that has pairs of resue animals made up of one cat and one dog - but I'll keep my antennae out.
-
It is very quiet tonight.
Oh yes. I would love to visit them and the beautiful parrots.
-
Gonna go eat some salad and work on the play a bit, while I have the energy. I did a bit of writing today - some of it good. Sheesh, a long drive does take it out of me, in a way it didn't usta...
-
Hey, let's all go to Australia!!! just for a little visit... drop by Tom's house, and fondle his pooches...
-
Thanks.
Today I finaly called C.A.T.S., a cat rescue shelter in Medford, about volunteering. I will go meet them next week.
-
Lovely pictures of Fosca and Magnus Tom. They are beautiful...
-
Penny, great idea.
I'm off for the night.
-
I have doen some work with rescued animals at the local humane society. My heart broke for two dogs that they recently brought in. The owner basically starved them. One was a doberman and the other was a pitbull mix. The dobie was a real sweetheart.
-
I shall refrain from passing on the comments to Magnus and Fosca - well they won't be passed on all at once. They'll expect rewards for their loveliness!
-
Tomovoz, I'm embarrassed by the puns that are going through my head, so I'll say it quietly, risotto voce if you will: Did that Rice Stevens production of THE KING AND I feature the Uncle Ben's Cabin segment?
-
Hmmm...that double-pun seemed to drive people away. :)
-
Thank you Fred. My day is now much improved.
-
I'm glad I didn't try any (Rice) Paddy Chayefsky jokes. That might have cleared the room entirely.
-

No, it was a George Stevens production and the number was replaced by Steam Heat which makes no more sense than that bloody post of mine!
But that's what Uncle Remus said, and he loved is rice, oh yes, according to Uncle Walt! ??? :-\
YOU? EMBARRASSED??
Go away! ;)
-
Thank you Fred. My day is now much improved.
I told YOU already!
Please, do NOT encourage him!
-
I'm glad I didn't try any (Rice) Paddy Chayefsky jokes. That might have cleared the room entirely.
Stop bragging and bring on the puns!
Rice has its price and I want a Paddy Melt(down)!
-
LOL. my assumption was correct . It would be Uncle Toby in OZ! I assumed the "Uncle Ben" reference.
Did the Irish teach the Asians how to grow rice I wonder.
I thought Marty was Butcher but it been a long time since I've seen the movie. Perhaps he was a grocer.
He had a husky voice I think.
-
Let's do the Paddy Melt Rock!
-
Neil Sedaka used to love his rice but writing about it was a strain.. He ended up employing a Colander Girl.
-
Surely there's some reference to be made about Tim Rice and Anne Rice or something along those lines - but I can't think of any.
-
Has Francois been driven away as well? Or is he googling for pun material?
-
I'm not sure that you can cook Rice successfully in a Webber. (or is that an OZ tradename?).
I think Ann Rice stated somewhere in a novel that she thought "rice sucked" or some comment in that vein.
-
I must go search the Tim Rice catalog for potential puns. I'll be back. :)

-
Tim used to eat rice with his salad in days gone by.
(OK it's an obscure Blondell reference but I didn't need to google or giggle).
-
Has Francois been driven away as well? Or is he googling for pun material?
No, but François can't "compete" with you two guys! I'm not that witty and I'm French after all! NOT an excuse, just an explanation!
And he can google without quitting this site, you know! ;)
Tim could title his bio:
From rice to riches! :-\
-
Sorry Fred, I've never heard of Donna, Grantland and Jerry. They've no doubt not heard of me either.

See, this is so US oriented that that guy from the Old Europe (me!) can only answer the first question!
-
Unless they're obscure reference to Reindeer, Elvis Presley's mansion and Germans (Don't mention the war).
-
I'm taking a lunch break - not rice!
-
Donna Rice? The Jeans girl!
I guess I'm having a "burp" from my days in Florida!
What a joke that Gary Hart was basing his compain on conservative values and then fooling around with a floosie!
"Do what I say but don't do what i do!"
All the same!
-
Oddly, the Mental Floss siite doesn't seem to include the answers to that quiz. :(
-
IN honor of the French, perhaps I'll go make a nice Rice Piaf.
-
Oddly, the Mental Floss siite doesn't seem to include the answers to that quiz. :(
Is it safe to use the Floss for one's teeth?
Some rice's stuck between mine!
-
Didn't Fanny Rice sing the line "While you're away I'm here to say there'll be no Riceman there" (or something like that)
-
IN honor of the French, perhaps I'll go make a nice Rice Piaf.
Hey, you seem to have a thing about Edith!
You'd be surprised about how the young French generations don't know anything about la Môme! Sad!
And she's the one who made famous that song that goes
"Pudding! Pudding!"
(clue http://www.lyricsdownload.com/edith-piaf-padam-padam-lyrics.html
And DR Laura comes into view! :D
-
I think Mental Floss was one of the younger Bobsey Twins. (was her brother Fred?). The older ones were Nan and Bert.
-
I've not read the books for nearly 50 years!
-
Mental Floss? Is that another nickname for that man who can't pronounce "nuclear"?!
-
You gentlemen are downright punny tonight!
-
An exhaustive quick search on the ibdb could only come up with Elmer Rice's THE PADDY MACHINE, and Sarah Rice's performance of "Green Finch and Minute Served"
-
Useless information: Teresa Brewer and Bobby Darin both attempted to have hit recordings with English versions of "Milord".
-
Now, that would not be proper to go into Condolences Rice jokes, would it?
(My defences are down and I miss my secretary!)
-
"Brewer" was not a poor attempt at a cooking rice reference. Nor of making rice wine.
-
You gentlemen are downright punny tonight!
No, I am not but then... I'm not a gentleman! ;)
-
Unfortunately that person is far from a joking matter François. I'd not like her in charge of pushing buttons.
-
I'm off to bed. And not a bed of rice, either. :)
-

I know what you mean but check this:

Should we sing "Beautiful Simer" to you?
Pleasant dreams!
-
I'm off to bed. And not a bed of rice, either. :)
I'd rather have a bed of vice but.... ;)
A bed of ice would calm me down!
Would love to be on the rocks! :-\
-

Thanks for the link François. There will be no missing links here.
-
I watched first the documentary on the making of SWEET BIRD OF YOUTH. For those who have never seen the play or read it, it gave good information on the specific changes the movie version contained that softened its impact from the more visceral stage version.
-
The movie itself of SWEET BIRD OF YOUTH was very enjoyable. I had forgotten how wonderful Paul Newman is in this film, and yet he was denied an Oscar nomination when his fellow co-stars all earned bids in the other acting categories.
-
I then watched reruns of CSI and CSI: NY which CBS showed tonight. Both episodes were from this season, and the CSI case in particular was a heart-wrenching one involving a body found stuffed in a chimney.
-
Heading off to bed now. For some reason, I'm finding it hard to keep my eyes open this evening.
Good night, everyone!
-
Tomovoz, I'm embarrassed by the puns that are going through my head, so I'll say it quietly, risotto voce if you will: Did that Rice Stevens production of THE KING AND I feature the Uncle Ben's Cabin segment?
ROTFLMAO!!!
-
IN honor of the French, perhaps I'll go make a nice Rice Piaf.
I think I am a little short of Piaf and it is hard to swallow.
-
Okay, so it should have been sparrow, but that isn't punny. And wasn't he also Nixon's Vice President?
-
She’s admitted that she made a big mistake posing sitting on the Vietcong anti-aircraft gun. She’s apologized countless times for that mistake. How many of us do not have something akin to that - in one way or another - in our past? And how many of us have the guts to say, “I made mistake. It was a stupid thing to do. I’m sorry.”
Sorry, but many of us who were there at the time don't buy it.
We think her apologies are half-hearted and self-serving.
We think Jane Fonda was a traitor, plain and simple - and there is no acceptable apology for treason!
End of counter rant.

And fortunately, derBrucer; in this country, both sides have a right to their own opinion.

Rolling On The Floor Laughing My Ass Off

Back from Moon Over Buffalo. Weak play, but some solid laughs, just as on B'way. The production was okay - the actors were okay, but this type of play needs expert farceurs and stars. Also, the second act, if done properly, should not run fifteen minutes longer than the first act.
