Well, you've read the notes, time has flown whilst you've read the notes, and now it is time (which has flown) for you to post until the bitch goddess cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: PALINDROME!
-
First post! Hoo and Ray! I'm know I've been seriously E & T so if BK wants to break out the bitch slapping machine, I understand.
But the good news is that I think I may have found a way to start to be a bit less E & T--I am using the laptop and am typing this from the bus on the way to work!
I decided that I needed to go to a completly wireless network soooo this is the first test run. I will be able to be on the board to/from work and maybe at lunch. I'm not sure if the signal will go into our building but I shall try. Oh, yes, I shall certainly try so look for me at about one this afternoon.
I only have a half hour so it won't be long but shorts visits are better then none! :)
I'm behind on some of the goings on with you all but I didn't miss out on all of the news!
I want to say congrats to our grads and to our lovebirds! How wonderful to find out the news!
I am a bit behind on Elmores Dad but I do hope that everything continues to go well with you both.
As for myself, I've been a bit busy but really have no major complaints.
Mom is doing well and wants me to thank you all for all of your good wishes. She said that I have hooked up with a great group of people. I want to thank you all as well. I know the power of HHW vibes and I'm sure they are watching over us.
-
Wow, I just looked up and we're already about half way to work. Sigh. Where's a good traffic jam when you need one?
-
Whoops I don't know how I did it but somehow I posted on yesterdays topic.
I thought it was locked. Sorry!
-
Hi, Danise - is this seat taken? May I join you on your way to work?
Nice to see your smiling face and hear that you and your mom are doing well. We've missed you!
-
VixMom--do you still need a copy of the last Boston Legal? As usual, I don't have much time so I Tivo things until I can get to them. I should still have it since I haven't had time to watch it.
If so, I will gladly make you a copy. Is a DVD ok?
-
Hi Ginny! What are you doing up so early? It's wonderful to see you as well!
-
How is life in your neck of the woods?
-
Good morning, BK! Nice to see you as well!
-
Okay, I don't know what is more pathetic - eight posts or the fact that, as on Tuesday, I woke up at three-thirty and cannot bet back to sleep. Not good. Too much in Ye Olde Brainpan, I'm afraid.
-
I'll have to leave in a moment or two. We're getting off the interstate and just about to my stop.
I'll try again at one but this seems to be working just fine! Yay!
Later, Gators!
-
Hi Ginny! What are you doing up so early? It's wonderful to see you as well!
Have to be at work at 9 today. Starting week after next, I'll be working NO evenings, except when I have a program scheduled ;D
-
Good morning, all! Last night I got a bit of work for Mr Frangoulis, so that's a good thing. I need to pick up the score on my way to Toyland.
I believe our DR Jose is in the recording studio with LESTAT this week.
DRBen, I'll have the CDs you asked for at the end of the week. Ohmigod, that's tomorrow!
Beyond that, I have no news. My life is a holding pattern for the nonce.
-
'morning, DR Elmore. Gotta leave for work...bye for now.

Not only do I have a PALINDROME but a PALINDVENICE

PS I know I am missing accents. Not sure how to do them here.
-
And the word of the day is: PALINDROME!
Tom Stoppard's Artist Decending a Staircase is a good example of a palindrama, in that it starts in the present, moves in steps backwards in time to a pivotal moment, and then retraces it's steps back to the present. Not Stoppard at his best, of course, but good all the same.

Mr BK all of that activity PLUS a visit from Mr Adam Long. Your life knows no limits!
-
Off to work today. :(
Hopefully I can check in a bit later.
-
Well, I'm up early. Not surprising, it's hard to sleep here. But, I did get some sleep and this will be a long but easy day. Then one more..... Hopefully I'll find out today if the counter offer I made was accepted by the potential buyer. It wasn't a whole lot different so I'm hopeful.

Questions that loom in my life:
Will der Brucer figure out how to survive next Monday, when there will be three shows he will want to watch running at the same time, and he doesn't have enough recorders to cover them all?
Will there be another dog in our life soon? (Angie's placement with her new family is quite successful, good news there.)
Will the new summer trainees at work, foreign exchange students mostly from Russia, be an interesting batch, or will they mostly hang out with just each other?
Will The DaVinci Code be worth seeing? (One of the women's magazines we sell is boasting on it's cover about "The DaVinci Code Diet." I figure the diet's big idea is "Don't swallow everything whole.")
To work I must go. Later.

THE AMAZIN' RACE
SPOILER WARNINGS ! ! ! ! !
My predictions were off, but I couldn't be happier. While I have previously stated that I would have been satisfied if any of the final three won, deep down I really wanted these guys to win. The look on their faces when they were told that they had successfully completed the final task was priceless and I was applauding and cheering them on during their run to the finish line.
I don't remember there being an intermediate Pit Stop during previous final race episodes. Maybe the producers thought that the journey from Japan to Alaska to Colorado would have been too exhausting? Maybe the Game Show Network (which broadcasts previous TAR races) requested less two hour episodes? Maybe just another opportunity to hawk the bluetooth device that was awarded to the hippies?
I really love this show. I hope it finds a new audience this fall and stays around for a while.
-
Here are my thoughts on last night's TAR.
.
.
.
First off, here it ended at 9:45pm. And i was really confused. BUt CTV (canadian channel) must have fasttracked the commercials so it could switch to the end of American Idol.
Okay re: TAR.
I was ultimately happy with the winners. And I was very happy that the 3rd place team finished 3rd. No matter how nice they were, they really just blew so many chances. Every time the teams were equalized they just made mistake after mistake.
Also, I loved the whole Tokyo thing, and how the one hippie could speak japanese. That was awesome to watch. But i wasn't too happy that they had the hotel guy lie about having internet service. And also they lied about seeing the sign on the roller coaster.
The one thing I was not happy about was the end and the flags. I didn't like it when they did the map for the FAMILY TAR. And I just don't think it's far to save such a mental challenge for the very end. Before the very end, fine. But it gave the hippies such a huge advantage. I really wish that the hippies had gotten to the flags first. Then i would feel much better about things. But the way it ended it basically felt (to me) as though the frats deserved to win, but they gave it to the hippies.
-
Oh and for those TAR fans on the West Coast there is a very special announcement at around the 8:30am hour on the CBS early show.
-
As for IDOL.
I only watched the end. But I was really happy with the results (i know i'm the only one here who was). But i was surprised that taylor was so close in votes to the others. I thought he would have had a bigger margin than 33.5, 33.26, and 33.06 (something like that). I'm guessing that more of elliot's votes will go to taylor though.
-
One more thing re: TAR.
.
.
.
I thought everything they did in Denver was really lame. I would have much rather they raced around the ACTUAL city, instead of going in some barn in a remote area.
-
Happiest and mirthiest of birthdays to DR Francois!
-
Great to see you on here more, Danise.

A small quibble I had about the flags was that I think there should have been a rule that the flags were not to touch the ground. Towards the end when both teams were hurriedly rearranging their flags, there were a few times when they were flinging them to the ground. It struck me as a bit disrespectful to the nations they visited.
I'll bet that on the next race, the final task with be a physical one.

-
TAR Spoiler.......................
I was also very pleased with the TAR outcome, the hippies were a great team and I loved how they had such fun during the entire race...it is too bad that some teams get so stressed out that they can't have fun and enjoy the fact that they are doing so many fun things and visiting so many great places.
I had no problem with the final challenge being mental...I think that is an important attribute to have in this game and some temas have it and some don't, just as some teams are great with the physical and some aren't.
And lastly, I am so glad that the teams finally have gone to Japan...it is such a beautiful country and it brought back such memories of my trip there! And I am trying to remember if that hotel in the show was the one I stayed at in Narita (near the airport). I will have to dig out my Japan memorabilia and find out.

Funny he should ask:
BLACKIE
The keys to making him adoptable are house training (he is very smart, but never lived in doors until we got him and boarded him) and his fear of sudden male movements since he was attacked by a machetti (can't spell it) that left him with an enormous gash on his neck about 3 inches wide and 6 inches long. Overall, he loves belly rubs, walks (needs some more leash manners) can sit and shake and loves car rides and running/playing. An experienced man like you would most likely be the answer to getting him to trust again...he really wants to love!!

Re: the tasks in TAR being physical vs mental.
My sister also thought it was great to have a mental challenge at the end (so that someone like fran and barry could have a chance).
I disagree. I have no problem with their being mental challenges throughout the race. But i do have a problem with them having such a mental one as the final challenge.
They equalized the teams so many times last night, it almost bordered on it being unfair.
I can accept if the final bit is not completely physical. I mean there have been races where the teams had to run a long way, which meant the most physical team would win.
It just sort of seemed a bit unfair to have a team lose solely because they were not the smartest.
I liked all 3 of the final teams. I knew i didn't want ray and yolanda to win because i thought they were less deserving. But as i was watching the final show, there were times when i would be really happy for the hippies (since i love them). Like I was really happy they did so well in tokyo.
I actually like the hippies better than the frats. BUt i thought the frats were more deserving. And maybe it's only be, but that last challenge left a really bad taste in my mouth. Just watching the frats have that lead, and knowing that the hippies were ivy league made it really obvious who was gonna win. And i don't like that.
-
Oh gosh i did something to my neck and i'm in pain.
I have a very weak neck. And many years ago i had to wear a brace (for a summer, and not even because of an accident). Now it is delicate.
And I think i must have slept on it wrong (that or my hair was a bit wet when i went to bed).
WEll this morning it is really hurting. I put some special cream on it.
I know i could use a muscle relaxant. and it would feel much better. But that would knock me out (it makes all my muscles a bit numb). I guess that will be a last resort tonight.

Come To The East Coast All You West Coast HHWr's!!!
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - In another in a series of notable pronouncements, religious broadcaster Pat Robertson says God told him storms and possibly a tsunami will hit America's coastline this year.
Robertson has made the predictions at least four times in the past two weeks on his news-and-talk television show "The 700 Club" on the Christian Broadcasting Network, which he founded.
Robertson said the revelations about this year's weather came to him during his annual personal prayer retreat in January.
"If I heard the Lord right about 2006, the coasts of America will be lashed by storms," Robertson said May 8. On Wednesday, he added, "There well may be something as bad as a tsunami in the Pacific Northwest."
Robertson has come under intense criticism in recent months for suggesting that American agents should assassinate Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez and that Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's stroke was divine retribution for Israel's pullout from the Gaza Strip.

Just watching the frats have that lead, and knowing that the hippies were ivy league made it really obvious who was gonna win. And i don't like that.
The thing is, the final task was also physical. The flag seeker had to run through the field of flags and then carry the flag to where they had to be displayed. In the cold and in the snow, I bet that part of the challenge wasn't as easy as it looked.
And if the Hippies had the mental advantage, they almost blew it because they didn't immediately recognize the Russian flag. At one point, they had about seven flags placed wrong as opposed to the two that the Frat Boys had wrong when they first tried to pass.
In any case, I think that winning that final task depended upon what the teams learned during their recent journeys to the different nations around the world and not what they studied in college.

There's an article on Playbill.com HERE (http://www.playbill.com/news/article/99761.html), that says that the cast recording CD for The Drowsy Chaperone will have two bonus tracks:
At the end of the recording, listeners will hear a bonus track of the full version of the hoary ethnic pastiche "Message From a Nightingale," which figures into the comic show in excerpt form. (The song will not appear in the order it plays in the show; it would spoil the fun to explain further.)
Also added as a bonus track is "I Remember Love," a duet for the butler Underling (played by Edward Hibbert) and Mrs. Tottendale (played by Georgia Engel). The song was cut from the Lisa Lambert-Greg Morrison score prior to Broadway. Underling and Tottendale sing the duet "Love Is Always Lovely" in the show nowadays.
It goes on to say (and this is the cool part), Kurt "Deutsch [Ghostlight Records' president] also confirmed that Ghostlight will release a vinyl version of the cast album for the collector's market. It will not include narration tracks by Man in Chair. The release date has not been determined. Expect it to be a high-priced, limited edition."
What I want to know is how high priced will it be??

They equalized the teams so many times last night, it almost bordered on it being unfair.
It just sort of seemed a bit unfair to have a team lose solely because they were not the smartest.
DR Jennifer, I guess I don't understand why it would be unfair to have smarts win the race but not unfair to have physical strength win the race....I think, IMHO, that both intelligence and strength are needed to win the race so either one is equal in the end, and quite necessary.
To me putting the flags of each country in order of which ones they visited was a perfect final challenge which showed what they learned from the experience.
And I agree with DR Dan...I kept cringing when they would let the flags drop onto the ground...I suspect, however, that those guys weren't knowledgeable about flag courtesy.

Hmmm... I know some people I would trade for a tank of gas.....
BERLIN - A German woman left her friend as a deposit at a gas station because she did not have enough cash to pay for her gasoline, police said Wednesday.
"She didn't have enough money to pay the bill, so her friend stayed behind as a human deposit while she went to withdraw cash," said a spokesman for police in the southern town of Münchberg. "Unfortunately, the woman did not return."
Two hours after the 20-year-old driver left, the gas station called the police, who interrogated the stranded "deposit" before releasing her. Police are investigating the driver on suspicion of fraud.
-
Had a nice lunch and then came back to cry my way through two excellent dramas from last night.
First up was BONES where the bones of Dr. Brennan's mother (long missing) were discovered. All this led to a nasty investigation in which she found out more about her parents than she ever wanted to know. Soul-gripping and emotion-stirring episode for a season finale.
-
Oh, that Pat Robertson is such a card!
A joker!!
-
Next up was CSI: NY where Detective Don Flack was injured in a bomb blast, and the team rallied to discover the bomber as well as keeping vigil over his hospital room. Exciting but again achingly moving as Detective Mac Taylor had flashbacks to a marine in his unit who died in his arms.
-
Having read inadvertently how last night's LAW & ORDER was going to end, I couldn't sit through another emotional drama this afternoon, so instead I watched the two back-to-back episodes of SCRUBS from Tuesday night.

Oops, missed the bus to ride home with Danise! Isn't that cool that she can post from there?
I'll be leaving work soon to go directly to my book group. Tonight we're discussing The Jane Austen Book Club by Karen Joy Fowler. Next month, we'll become the Jane Austen Book Club, each member reading Austen books of her choice. I'm trying to do them in the same order as the group in Fowler's book, so right now I'm listening to Emma while driving.

Come To The East Coast All You West Coast HHWr's!!![/size]
Quote:
What has not been included in this article is that Robertson has personally invested heavily in swimming schools all through Washington and Oregon. (British Columbia, being part of Canada, is not in any danger.)

Got a lovely package from dear reader elmore - I hadn't been to the mail place since Saturday, so there were a few nice things waiting for me. I shall now shower, dress for tonight's concert, then be on my way to LACC for the afternoon rehearsal, which I'll leave at six-fifteen.

Gladiator the Musical!
And they wonder why I got so excited about The Drowsy Chaperone
Ah, but can you imagine the choreography for Gladiator? Particularly that buff kick line?
Radio City Music Hall Rockettes, you will have met your match!

Fantastic!
BTW, THE DA VINCI CODE just got a great review on NBC local news, and it was followed by a story about a Darien, CT priest, Father Fay (?) who's embezzled at present count between $200 - 400,000 from his parishioners to keep himself and his boyfriend in luxury. And the Church is worried about Dan Brown's book? Oy!

EMMA's good, but PERSUASION is up there in sublimity with Mozart, Schubert, and the best of writing. I strive to be as good and understanding as Mr Knightley but end up as tacky as Mr Elton!
-
Off to do household chores and then on to tonight's TV finales - WILL & GRACE, CSI, and WITHOUT A TRACE.
WBBL.

Gladiator the Musical?!?
AND "Secondhand Lions" is going to be made into a musical, too! I've never seen the movie. Is it any good?

I thought I had something to say before I started "catching up."
After having done so, I don't.
I mean, how could I possibly add to what has already BEEN said?
-

I liked it.
I don't remember much about it.
I do remember I liked it.

Emma
Sense and Sensibility
Mansfield Park
Northanger Abbey
Pride and Prejudice
Persuasion
NORTHANGER ABBEY should be funnier but the heroine's sooo dumb! How dumb is she? She thinks Shirley Temple is a synagogue. What does the romantic hero ever see in something that stupid?
I actually prefer the film of SENSE & SENSIBILITY, but I think the other four are great, rating them MANSFIELD PARK (4; too much sanctimony about the vicar's life although the Aunt Norris is a bitch from hell), EMMA (3, could be a bit more sparkling), P & P (2, but high in my pantheon of great lit), PERSUASION (#1, profound and heartbreaking; the literary happy ending Miss Austen never experienced in life).

Ack.
Ack-Ack.

The news just had a bit of General Hayden's senate interrogation to be head of the CIA, and in justifying illegal wire tapping, he saud "the more we put out there, the more terrorists we kill and capture." Kill was definitely the first word.
Speaking of the news, any thoughts on the Duke University rape case? I think it's a Tawana Brawley fraud all over again.

Happy Birthday DR François

Why don't they take some second- or third-rate films and improve them as musicals? DR MBarnum would love a musical of ATTACK OF THE PUPPET PEOPLE! I think it could only help that film.
-
Happiest of Birthdays (so far) to DR François!!

Just how late is the new issue of SCARLET STREET? I would swear it's got to be over two months!

Antidisestablishmentarianism
LOL! I was going to use that word. Isn't supposed to be the longest English word or something like that?

So you don't like the idea that people have to have a brain to win?

Penumbra

This is Gabe's favorite word, which he uses regularly to stump visitors at our house:
pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis
Now you know why we have so few return visitors. :)
I know that's what sent me running out your front door ;)
-
Victoria's Secret has a line of penumbras, coming in all shades.

The first hour, from 8-9 is a retrospective. The second hour, from 9-10 is the actual finale.
The Suns play tonight, so I guess I'll have to read about it tomorrow. Like I really care that much. I've only seen the show a few times.

Sarah Finch, an actress friend from England, was here last week to do her one-woman Jane Austen play, Yours Ever, Jane, for the Jane Austen Society.
She uses Jane Austen's letters to her sister to introduce and bookend lengthy excerpts from Pride and Prejudice in which she plays all the roles. Even though the hall where she performed was terrible, I enjoyed it immensely.

Thank you, thank you for all the nice wishes! I do have nephews and nieces but they never seem to remember their uncle's birthday!
You know, I just don't feel one year older!
It's now officially my birthday date since it's almost 1:00 am here and we're May 19!
Oh feel free to send greetings again today if you wish! LOL!
Yes, i'm that vain!
Rachel, Anna's daughter is really cool too! We thrilled ourselves by visiting a fancy place on the Champs Elysées, the VUITTON store!
They have security guards inside in every corner and people have to line up outside, just like for a Disney park attraction!
I should NOT say that, but we sure did not look like potential buyers!
Here are some views of what we saw:

For all you library types (and I mean that in the best possible way) I just read that the unintentionally funny line in The DaVinci Code is Tom Hanks saying "We've got to get to the library, fast!" Don't know why it's funny, but it may just make a great go to the library promo

Probably because most of the laughing bozos think a library's only for nerds. God knows Tom Cruise as Mr Macho Mission wouldn't know how to use a card catalogue!
Unless it blew up. Or turned into a vehicle.

Then the musical would be called THE OLDEST GLADIATOR.

Dear Reader Laura, by now, even the show's most rabid fans don't care that much.

Or GLADIATOR, THE SENIOR EDITION

LOL TCB, you have me laughing like crazy...thank you
Thank you Cillaliz, it is nice to know that someone has been reading them.

I was kind of thinking GLADIATOR THE MUSICAL might be a fun show !!
I am holding out hope that some courageous producer will bring Bacharach and David's LOST HORIZON to Broadway. A pity that not all of the screen cast would be available.
-
Thanks for the vibes, especially from DR TCB who i'm sure is in more pain than me (vibes to you ~~~~~~~~~~~~).
I ended up taking the muscles relaxant because my neck was hurting more and more and i couldn't take the pain.
I decided to try less than half a pill (since a whole one makes me sleepy, really out of it, and really numb all over). The half did work. My neck was good. It did make me very tired. And i actually could barely lift my fork at dinner (it totally numbs my body). But it worked. But now it's hurting again. So i need to check on the dosage. Maybe i can take the other half before bed.

I am glad the pill helped, Jennifer. If you decide to take the other half before bed, be sure that you go to bed early enough to get a full night's rest.

RE: TAR and me thinking that brains are not important.
I don't think that at all. THere are many tasks along the way that require brains.
I liked the final task in itself. I just wasn't thrilled with it as the last thing they had to do. THe show equalized everyone so that they all arrived in denver on the same plane. That in itself was not really fair to the teams that finished the tasks more quickly.
I guess the last task just rubbed me the wrong way as a final task. Since there was really only one thing for them to do after landing in denver.
I probably also wouldn't have liked if an all female team, or a male/female combo had had to run miles to the finish line (in a race with an all male team).
I guess i just wish that there had been more stuff for them to do after getting off the plane. And it just felt wrong watching the frats lose simply because they weren't as brainy as the hippies. That was my point.
-
Oh btw Re: TAR.
The thing I eluded to this morning that was on the EARLY SHOW was Ray proposing to Yolanda.

That show started off so well eight years ago, and I thought this farewell made the SEINFELD finale look like genius. NBC can really put a nail in a coffin with their sitcoms.

Gas prices are low in Florida.

I put in the second episode of ELIZABETH R to watch before prime time TV started tonight.
"The Marriage Game" has been the least watched by me of the six episodes of ELIZABETH R, but I'm not sure why it doesn't appeal to me as much as the others. It's certainly wonderfully written and acted. And I did enjoy it, too.

I hope tonight is the night we have a new Ashland member.
Nothing like raving about our wonderful site to a new local, who works in the most popular store in Ashland & would be a great addition to our family, and then he couldn’t connect.
Welcome and thanks for rescuing me today. :-[ I'm such a ditz. ;D

I watched the WILL & GRACE retrospective. Too haphazardly arranged, and all the highlights here were also on a highlights show they did a season or two ago.
-
The final episode had a couple of semi-amusing things (Leslie Jordan and Shelley Morrison got off some good quips), but the timelines kept going forward and backward so irritatingly that I couldn't really settle in and enjoy it.
For me, no comedy has ever gone out with such fun and with such heart as THE MARY TYLER MOORE SHOW. For me, this is the standard against which all other shows should be measured. And it was only a half hour episode. The writers won an Emmy for that show, and never was it more richly deserved.
-
WITHOUT A TRACE's season finale also jumped back in time after starting in the present. Still, of the season finales I've seen thus far, this had the least amount of cliffhanger present at the end of the hour.
-
Tony Award winner Judy Kaye will be stepping into Sweeney Todd while Patti LuPone is on vacation next month. Kaye will play Mrs. Lovett from June 20 through June 25.
"I have to go and start learning the tuba and everything," Kaye told Broadway.com. "I'm going to try not to screw anybody else up! I've played Mrs. Lovett three times [in previous productions], so I'm not afraid of her at all. I love her desperately."
Kaye recently received a 2006 Tony Award nomination for Best Actress in a Play for her work in Souvenir, which she starred in off-Broadway and regionally prior to its Broadway run. She won a 1988 Tony Award for her portrayal of Carlotta in The Phantom of the Opera. Her other Broadway credits include On the Twentieth Century, The Moony Shapiro Songbook, Brigadoon, Ragtime and Mamma Mia! (for which she received a Tony nomination). Kaye's recordings include Judy Kaye, Diva by Diva and Judy Kaye, Songs from the Silver Screen.
After her June stint, Kaye is also expected to return to Sweeney Todd in August, presumably when LuPone is away at Chicago's Ravinia Festival doing Gypsy (which runs August 11 through August 13). "I do two weeks in August," Kaye said. "I don't know which weeks they are."
Sweeney Todd will continue to star Michael Cerveris as Sweeney Todd, Mark Jacoby as Judge Turpin, Donna Lynne Champlin as Pirelli, Manoel Felciano as Tobias, Alexander Gemignani as The Beadle, John Arbo as Jonas Fogg, Diana DiMarzio as Beggar Woman, Benjamin Magnuson as Anthony and Lauren Molina as Johanna.
