Well, you've read the notes, you've done a postmortem on the notes, and now it is time for you to postmortem until the cows come home - they're doing a postmootem.

I'd like to do a recording of the Brain - I'm very happy with its score - but I'd have to have it orchestrated (I've asked elmore to do it), even for its five or six piece band, and all that costs dough.

I think some of our land deprivation is due to excess senility. Too many old salty farmers who cared about money too much at the expense of the environment.

God morning, all!  Dear Friend BK, it all worked out well!  I predicted as much two days ago so I will change my name to Clare Voyant and hang out a shingle.  I knew you'd come out smelling like roses.

I'm happy to hear on the TCB front (and back) that all is well so far.  Last night Dylan and I watched BLOOD SIMPLE, which I hadn't seen since 1983 or 84.  I believe he may have landed a summer internship with the Troma boys, so he spent a part of the evening working on his resume and I worked on the Toyland libretto.

I found this scary album on eBay.  I can't tell if the lady on the cover is relaxing or looking wary at the sounds or smells coming from her gramophone.  Al Goodman conducted all the Sigmund Romberg shows on Broadway, and when I was a kid I loved all his 1940s RCA recordings of excerpts from "The New Moon," HMS Pinafore," and others.

TOD:  I cannot remember the little chocolate cake's name, but I stil lobe Hostess cupcakes.

Morning all!  I am sooo happy that DR TCB is doing alright.   Here's hoping that he will be pain free once he heals!

I know that I am finely reaping the benefit of my surgery.  Now that I've had time to heal it is wonderful to no longer be in such pain.  I don't know why I didn't have it done long ago.

Of course, having a doctor who didn't believe that I was having such pain didn't help.   I still love his comment to me after the surgery.  "You must have been in a LOT of pain."  Yeah, do ya think?

Good morning DR Elmore!

It felt weird to watch Bonnie being driven away by someone else last night.  It felt even stranger to look out the front door and not see her parked there.

I gave myself a fifthteen minute head start  as a just in case to walk down to the bus this morning but I made it in about ten.

Well, we're starting to gear up for hurricane season.  Right now supplies for a storm (flashlights, generators, batteries, etc) are all tax free and will be for 2 weeks.

I saw on the news that we are expecting several big ones again.  I'm happy that we don't live nearer the coast.  They say that if a wave hit Tampa like it did in NO, it would go inland for at least six miles.

Of course the building where I work would be flooded for the first couple of floors and we would not be able to go in for week if not months afterwards.

We would be assigned to some of the local units.  I would have my choice of several since there are at least four in my home area.

Good morning one and all.

Anthony is safely ensconsed in Roanoke, Virginia. He has seen his costume. He hasn't seen the wig yet. First day of rehearsal is today

I've been busy since he left. I'm transferring many tapes which will never come out on CD including both albums by Gotham, the first called just Gotham was a great mix of 70s pop and covers of tight harmony 30s and 40s tunes. The second album, called Void Where Inhibited, was a not-very-good (IMHO) disco influenced album. It will be nice to have them on CD along with some of the 92nd Street Y Lyrics and Lyricists programs. I have Jerry Herman, Sammy Cahn and even though it's not a live performance but archival material, Frank Loesser.

Here is a shot of the Gotham album

TOD:

Oreos
Nutter Butters
Animal Crackers (that come in the little circus wagon box)
Fig Newtons
Chips Ahoy!
Pepperidge Farm's Milanos (any flavor)

I have to admit that I seldom go down the cookie and cracker aisle.  I loves cookies and crackers, but they are probably the worse store-bought product when it comes to trans fatty acids.  So it's once in a blue moon that I'll treat myself to a package of Oreos and that gets spread out for a week's consumption.

Trader Joe's has some wonderful cookies. They have a cinnamon raisin concoction that I could eat all day. They also have a hard cookie called a Dunker which has cranberry in it. OMG, I could balloon up to the size of a house and eat both those cookies all day and all night.

Vienna Fingers
Pepperidge Farms Orange Milano Cookies
Oreos

Mawnin', kidz!

Okay, so Bruce, you finally Get It about working with student actors - which bodes well for continued success in creating a new musical theater department at LACC. And the kids got the crash course in musical theater. You now can meet each other half way, which saves a LOT of time in the glacially slow world of Education. The fact of your professionalism and perfectionism may actually draw working actors to the department, to participate in your workshop to hone their music theater chops - a renaissance at LACC. Nice.

Hope TCB continues to recuperate as well as we are led to expect! Blessings, boychik!

So, one last quick load of laundry, pack the car, pick up my nephew and head off up I-5 in a little while. I'll shlep him to Santa Cruz, so he can check out the campus where he'll be starting his PhD program in Sept, and meet some of the folks in the physics department; thence to Seattle by Thursday night, since he's teaching on Friday. And me - well, I'll be glad to get back to that garden and the birds and the raccoons... I had two days in that garden, and I'm rarin' to really Get At It!!

Probably post tomorrow morning again, while The Boy is shpotseering around UC Santa Cruz... or not. Anyhow, by Friday, I'll certainly be back to check in with y'all. Have a lovely day!

So glad your musical turned out acceptably, bk. Seeing the inexperienced improve, getting laughs and applause in spots where you wanted them to come, well, that's what teaching and theater is all about.

And if you do this course again, you'll yourself be smarter from your own experience in working through the problems you've had to face. It was a win-win situation.

I am so glad BK's show turned out so well - DR PennyO made some very astute observations about academia, too.

This afternoon I'll be teaching the May edition of Grantseeking Basics, so won't be 'round these here parts much.

I really enjoyed it.

It made me very uncomfortable at the beginning when Alison had to leave her job. I was not sure how she would get out of that one.

I really enjoyed how her dreams showed what her life would be like. And when she still found her way to her husband ... well that was really moving.

Good episode. And by the whole beginning being a dream, it was quite different than most of the other episodes.

I was so happy that Trump fired those two women. I have not been able to stand them for weeks.  It's such a shame that the women were such witches. I knew they would go after each other (they claimed to be best friends). Really, in past seasons I have loved so many of the women (kendra, and the great brunette they had last time). But this season I did not find the women to be as talented (well the bossy one andrea had great promise, but he fired her weeks ago).

Anyhow it seems obvious that Shawn will be the winner. He did a great job last night. And I was yelling at my tv for trump to fire both women and he did. So Yeah! :)

Yesterday was pretty bad, much worse than sunday. The only way i could stop the pain was to take the pills (which i don't like doing). But anyhow it did help a lot. I was in a lot of pain without them.

 A  Appeal  From: The Vixter

Please help me to raise money to help sick kids in St. Jude's Hospital. I am going to complete 250 math problems ( I hate math!) I am asking people to sponsor me. You can pledge to pay a certain amount for each problem, 10 cents a problem would be $25.00 (see I'm doing math already!!) or you could just pledge a "flat amount" of any amount you choose. You can even pledge online!! If you prefer, you can pay by check payable to St Jude's Childrens Hospital. If you call my Mom she'll even come and pick the check up! I really hate doing math problems but I figure it's still easier than what those sick kids have to deal with in the hospital. If I can help them get better sooner and help them go home to their families then its worth doing math. Thanks for reading this and thanks for helping me to help others. Love, Vicky

and to some of us it is a very sizable sum!!!!

To moi aussi!!

But once in a great while, something comes along that makes it a worthwhile investment.

Truth to tell, I have precious "little hope" that most of my bids will stand the rest of the day.  They were well above existing bids last night...but these kinds of things balloon in the final seconds...so you bid your max and hope for the best.

Still...I've been surprised before...so the tenterhooks have taken hold and are tugging at me.

I really lucked out with a recent eBay acquisition--a framed and matted window card from EQUUS.  They only other bidder was an eBay newbie (who had a negative feedback number, yet!)  I was able to bid and win the auction with ease.

Not only that, but the seller contacted me just over a week after the auction had ended and profusely apologized for not yet sending the print to me and offered to refund the price of the shipping.

The print arrived in pristine condition and I have it sitting atop one of my office overhangs.  It's very eye catching--everyone stops to look at it and ask what it's about ("Well, it's about this kid who blinds six horses...")

Title: Re:POSTMORTEM
Post by: bk on May 23, 2006, 09:10:12 AM
The Brain's Song.  I guess that's the title as it doesn't really have a title.  The song titles are:

The Brain From Planet X
Here on Earth
We're Young
The Plan
The Plan (reprise)
Things Are Gonna Be Changing Around Here
Saucers In The Sky
The Time Is Nigh (Act One finale - not sure if that will end up the title)

The Brain From Planet X (reprise)
The Brain Tap
Bring Me An Earthman
The Brain's Song
Independence Day
All About Men
Finale

Dragons in Indianapolis

Quote
INDIANAPOLIS - The 66 million-year-old skull of a dinosaur whose name was inspired by the Harry Potter series has found a permanent home in the Children's Museum of Indianapolis.

Dracorex hogwartsia will be housed permanently at the museum, officials and paleontologist Robert Bakker announced Monday.

The dinosaur's name was taken from the Latin words for dragon and king, and the fictional Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry in J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter novels. Rowling agreed to the name because her two children are dinosaur fans. "The naming of Dracorex hogwartsia is easily the most unexpected honor to have come my way since the publication of the Harry Potter books," Rowling said in a written statement.

The dinosaur, a member of the pachycephalosaur family, had a flat skull with spiky horns, bumps and a long muzzle. Other pachycephalosaurs had domed foreheads.

Scientists believe the pachycephalosaurs, which were herbivores, used their knobby heads to butt other dinosaurs.

Three Iowa residents who found the 18-inch-long skull in South Dakota donated it to the museum in 2004, before it was named. "When we found the skull, all that was showing was a little of the snout and some teeth," said Steve Saulsbury, one of those who found the skull. "But as we excavated more of it, it was clear we had something unique."

The fossil skull, left encased in a layer of rock and mud, was shipped to the children's museum, where it was reassembled by paleontologist Victor Porter. Porter also made casts that were used by other scientists to confirm the dinosaur was a new species.

Porter and Bakker agreed upon the name after children visiting the museum suggested it resembled a dragon.

"This is the first new dinosaur found, restored and named by a children's museum," Bakker said.

The fossil will be displayed on the second level of the museum this summer and later will be moved to its permanent home in the Dinosphere wing.

Neck update.

Yesterday was pretty bad, much worse than sunday. The only way i could stop the pain was to take the pills (which i don't like doing). But anyhow it did help a lot. I was in a lot of pain without them.

Today seems good so far. I actually slept very well (did not sleep the night before). So hopefully it will continue to improve (and that the only relief won't be when i take the pills).

Have you considered a chiropractor?

I'm considering a Canon Rebel XT or a Nikon D70s, but I need to go take a good look at both of them in a camera shop....so that's what I'm going to do.  I'll be back later.....

but I'll blame Jose!

Yup, gotta blame Jose, maybe that will bring him back......

The corn is better for you than a bag of cookies.....well, the dripping butter part.....oh who cares....

BTW, a corn eating tip from my mother....get the spray stuff, like I Can't Believe It's Not Butter and you can just spray it on the ear.  Much less messy.  I still go for the messy butter, but for those neatniks among us, it is an option

And Little Debby's Peanut Butter wafer bars.  I can never remember the "official" name ::), but I love them!

Of course, it would help to spell her name correctly!  It's Little Debbie (http://www.littledebbie.com/)!  And the official name is Nutty Bars® Wafer Bars (http://www.littledebbie.com/products/NuttyBars.asp).  They're the best!! ;D

Yes, Deb, they do it all in one day unless there is a big problem. There are exceptions to that general rule (I remember from the documentary that Company had Elaine Stritch come back the next day after stopping at some ungodly hour in the evening/morning).

It's very expensive to record a Broadway show and the money people behind the recordings don't want to stretch it out. One of the expenses is that the actors in the show get paid. I forget if it's one day salary or one week salary. I think it's one week of salary for the day in the recording studio. The musicians also get paid so the costs add up. Studio rental, equipment, etc. all make it very expensive to put our Jose's mellifluous notes on to a little silver disc which we can then shove into a CD player any time we please  ;)

Good morning DearReaderLaura.  Four hours sleep? or less?

Sorry, DR Tomovoz. I guess I didn't refresh and see your greeting. Yes, four hours or less. I sleep a couple hours at a time any more.

I'm sorry I had to miss the reading last night; if it had been today also, I'd be driving! Dust storms are very scary, and when you know it will be lasting all day, it is not wise to go out in it.

This morning DR Sandra and I went birdwatching, and we saw many baby mallards, baby stilts, baby avocets, and goslings. Then I did some yardwork at the church. And every time I work on the minutes from the meetings last weekend, I nod off.

And that has been my day so far.

Because I had no one to play host to this afternoon, I was able to get everything watched that was recorded last night.

First up was two episodes of OLD CHRISTINE. Both made me laugh though the soccer moms that are recurring cast members on the show really make me uncomfortable. Their viciousness masked by smiles is such a turn-off that they aren't funny to me and actually ruin scenes that they're a part of.

Next was the exciting CSI: MIAMI season finale. We found out who the mole was after several red herrings led us in wrong directions, and there was also the matter of $12,000 missing from the evidence bag that had us wondering who might have had sticky fingers. That revelation was a big surprise.

ALIAS, well, mercifully it's over, but I wonder if the actors are a little embarrassed by the outrageousness of the last two hours (and several episodes before). All reason and logic were cast out like baby's bath water in the finale. I found it a long two hours (even skipping commercials on the DVR).

I still had time left over to watch 30 minutes of THE BALLAD OF JOSIE.

First, I had no memory of its being produced in the widescreen process Techniscope. So we got to see the credits in wonderful widescreen, and then, the image went full frame, must to my displeasure. Ordinarily, I'd have just erased it, but since I did want to see this after so many years, I continued to watch. It's pretty mundane with lots of arguing about women's rights and women's abilities. Peter Graves does make a good leading man for Doris.

I'll have to check at work where the corn is coming from right now.  We've been selling a lot of it over the last couple of weeks, and I know it isn't local from around here.  My guess is (!!!) Mexico.  Yup, the stuff could be imported.  But I'll ask.

Der B is healing easily.  I've an appointment to have my stitches removed on Thursday (the second half of my day off will involve the grandlads), so everything is going according to schedule there.  And the bouts of depression the wound wound up are winding down, so all in all all is well.

For those who will watch "Idol" tonight, Taylor will sing two songs he's sung before:  "Levon" and "Living for the City"

Katherine is singing the only two songs she has sung in the past two months that all the judges loved:

"Black Horse and Cherry Tree" -- the one she did on her knees; and

"Over the Rainbow." -- the one she did sitting/reclining on the stage.

Each will sing a new song, as well (different song for each).  Presumably, Katherine will stand for hers.

Expect the same cavorting, squatting, thigh-compressing (gonad-crushing) moves from Taylor.

Mazel tov!

I've just heard from our DR JoseS and seen on the Cast Recordling List that LESTAT will close this weekend, May 28.

 :'(

They can't even hold out until the Tony Awards?  I know it only got two nominations, but you never know. :(

Won't know for 4 hours more, plus a few odd minutes.

I've been modifying my bids in dribs and drabs...adding more here and taking away a little more there....but very little.

I'm thinking my bids might be a touch higher now.

Sad to hear about LESTAT.  But here's a shout out to DR Jose, wherever you are.  It was your Broadway debut and no one can take that away.  We are all here proud of you.

And hey--DR TPunk is graduating at Avery Fisher Hall!  If she breaks out in a song and dance when she walks up for her diploma, she could break into show business.

What a lovely, lazy day I've had.  Got all my "stuff" done by noon and have just been doing nothing all the livelong day.  I've watched a couple of DVDs, snoozed, and eaten a silly meal from Gelson's deli - three smallish chicken tenders, four Oriental Drumettes (not so hot, but not much meat on 'em, so not too many calories), and a small amount of macaroni and cheese.  I'd imagine if I felt like it I could have something sweet for later without doing any harm - I did jog earlier, and I'm actually thinking about doing a second jog in a while, just to get some energy.  I might jog a half-mile to the liquor store and see what goodies they have, or I could jog over to Von's to see what goodies THEY have.

My little movie starts to shoot tomorrow in Toronto. It's strange to be so far away. I'm quite fond of this one -- and I feel like a mother whose child is taking its first step -- thousands of miles away.

I'm ensconced - not painful, really - in America's Best Value Inn, right downtown in Santa Cruz, CA. Travis has gone to have dinner with his mother's sister, who lives about an hour away, and her grandson - who is about Travis' age.

I walked around downtown a bit - I had forgotten what an absolutely charming town this is - haven't been here for - oh, maybe 35 or more years. It's just beauteous! Travis will love going to grad school here.

What are Malomars?

Mallomars were first introduced to the public in 1913,

A circle of Graham cracker is covered with a puff of marshmallow, then covered in a hard shell of pure dark chocolate.

Mallomars are not available in the summer months as they melt easily in the warm temperatures, so says Nabisco.  I remember having them all year round as a child.  They were my father’s favorite cookie.

Instead I watched the first hour of THE NEGOTIATOR, one of my favorite thrillers of the last decade. With the phone calls raging, I didn't get an hour of it watched before HOUSE came on, and after HOUSE, I put it back on but again got less than 20 more minutes watched due to phone calls and other interruptions. Some good news (well for our family at least)

At the spring concert tonight it was announce that the Vixter was this year's winner of the Music Association Scholarship, seven weeks here www.usdan.com

We had no clue that she had been selected, in fact we have never heard of a singer being selected, it is usually a band or orchestra student.

She was so shocked that she just stood there in her place with the chorus until the girls around her said." That's YOU!! Go up accept it!!!" and pushed her forward,  Vixdad and I sat there with our mouths hanging open while everyone around us slapped us on the backs and congratulated us.

We're so proud!

Love, VickyIf any one is ineterested please let me know and I can email you the direct link to her donation page .  Thanks!

Hey Rodz, how did Tpunk's AIDS Walk go?

AIDS Walk was great, thanks in part to many of the folks on this board.  The weather was perfect, the rain held off until the afternoon when most of the festivities had already come to a close.  So far close to 7 million dollars were raised, and I expect that the number will go up from there.

I wonder if they are similar to pinwheels? They are a marshmallow cookie they serve up here.

No pinwheels are much larger than a mallomar.  The bottom of a mallormar is abouthe size of a Chip Ahou, put a marshmallow on top and drop the whole thing in chocolate.  Pinwheels if I recall my childhood correctly have a marshmallow center and graham cracker shaped like a flower top and bottom and then dropped into chocolate.

Anyone herw still wondering why I am fatter than my avatar?

They can't even hold out until the Tony Awards?  I know it only got two nominations, but you never know. :(

I think that since the show won't have the chance to perform a musical number (because only noms for best new show and revival get to perform) the producers figure tv audiences won't get to hear/see enough about it to drive sales.

Unfortunately I did not use graduation as an opportunity to launch my broadway career.  I'm just please that they pronounced my name correctly and that I did not trip when accepting my diploma.

AIDS Walk was great, thanks in part to many of the folks on this board.  The weather was perfect, the rain held off until the afternoon when most of the festivities had already come to a close.  So far close to 7 million dollars were raised, and I expect that the number will go up from there.

Wow you collected  7 million in donations?!! You ARE good!!!

 ;D

I am very proud of you for doing that walk and I am so glad the weather held out for you.  We had a few cloudbursts accompanied by lightning on Sunday her on the Island of Long and I was concerned you wer e getting caught in it

Congratulations to the Vixter!

Foolishly, Rodz and I left the digital camera at home.  My mom took plenty of pictures on her disposable camera which she promises to have developed and put onto a disk as soon as she returns home tomorrow.  We did take some pictures with the digi cam as soon as we got home tonight, but everyone is asleep now so I'll wait until tomorrow to download and post.

The ceremony wasn't too long, about 2 hours and 20 minutes.  The longest parts were the keynote speaker (she just lost us about half way through) and the reading of the names.  We are the largest graduate school of social work in the nation (I'm 99% sure of this) and there were over 500 graduates tonight.  Luckily I was close to the top of the list alphabetically so I collected my diploma pretty quickly and then just sat back and relaxed.

After the ceremony, once I finally found my family, we quickly turned in my cap and gown and went off to dinner- we were all starving.  We had italian food at a restaurant I frequented this past semester after tuesday classes.  It seemed like a fitting end to my academic experience.

Thank you again to everyone for all of your support and good wishes this past year.  This board has been a tremendous source of support and fun escape as I have navigated my final year of graduate school.

Dakota -   I think what I have to do is get to a scanner and once and for all put a (very very  :) ) old picture in.  You're spurring me on to try to hop to it.

I do love your artwork, BTW!  The friend you created it for is very fortunate!
