Well, you've read the notes, the notes had too many connections, and now it is time for you to post until the connected cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: CORIANDER!
-
And on that note I must leave you all.
I tried to get on last night but couldn't. Ah, well.
I will be on my way to the airport soon to go to Virginia. I'll be back Monday with a full report of my time in the mountains.
Bye!
-
I think Cori Ander played Davis Cup Tennis for Norway.
-
CD: Andrea Griminelli's "Cinema Italiano". This is wonderful.
DVD: possibly following up last week's "It's Trad Dad" (aka "Ring-A-Ring Rhythm") and "The Knack - And How To Get it", with Richard Lester's other early pop film "Just For Fun".
-
Coriander.
A. K. A. cilantro.
PLU code 4889. I know because we sell bunches of the stuff.
It looks a lot like Italian Parsley.
Usually, the name cilantro is used to designate the fresh herb, the leaves and stems. Coriander is generally used to designate the seeds, either whole or ground, making it a spice. But it really is the same plant, and either name can be used in place of the other.

I listened to a few tracks on Paul Simon's new disc, Surprise. They sound a lot like Paul Simon often does, with his long phrases and meandering melodies.

TOD: Nothing planned as of yet. I wished I did, but I don't. I might watch The Dying Gaul which I've been trying to see and for whatever reason never got around to it.

Some of you might find this article (http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/news/archive/2006/06/15/financial/f165548D47.DTL) interesting. For the speed-readers among you, here's an extract:
Ultimately, Whole Foods management decided to immediately stop selling live lobsters and soft-shell crabs, saying they could not ensure the creatures are treated with respect and compassion.
"We place as much emphasis on the importance of humane treatment and quality of life for all animals as we do on the expectations for quality and flavor," John Mackey, Whole Foods' co-founder and chief executive, said in a statement.
Animal rights activities were thrilled with the decision, not just because of the way lobsters are harvested, shipped and stored but because of the fate that awaits many of them — being dropped alive into a pot of boiling water.
And further...
From now on, Whole Foods will only sell frozen raw and cooked lobster products at its more than 180 stores in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom, said Margaret Wittenberg, vice president of quality standards. And the chain will only deal with suppliers meeting their standards for humane treatment, handling and processing.
Now, I could be wrong, but wouldn't part of that "treatment, handling and processing" include dropping the live lobsters into a pot of boiling water? So the "humane" business means that the customer won't have to do the hard part any more, that's being done out of sight (and out of mind) in some commercial plant.
One more chance for our kiddies to learn where food comes from, conveniently removed for their protection.
:P

Did anyone watch Light In the Pizza last night? (Live From Lincoln Center) I had difficultly getting into in it. I had to switch channels every now and then. Victoria Clark was really good, but from what I saw in the show it can't be all that difficult so why does she only do 6 performances a week (She's off Friday eve and Saturday matinnee)
-
Good morning, all! I, too, tried several times last night to enter the site. After about an hour I gave up and started the new Moss Hart bio, which seems written with the cooperation of Kitty Carlisle Hart and refutes the "Moss was gay until therapy" accounts of several people I know (knew, in some cases) quite well, including one of Hart's lady friends, and the stories in the previous bio BEDAZZLER.
Dylan is heading off to a family weekend, and I've got Toyland and a performance at the Ensemble Studio Theatre to look forward to.

She's a bit grand. And overrated.

Wasn't The Partridge Family like that to0? One song and the show was over?

Also the Haynes Sisters in WHITE CHRISTMAS. They had one number, of which Wallace and Davis made a laughingstock. No more appearances for the Haynes at the Flamingo (or possibly the entire state of Florida.)
Sister Betty is also infamous for her one night, one song, over produced (four dancers!) act in New York.

iPod: OLC of THE MUSIC MAN with Van Johnson -- this is actually my cheapest eBay purchase--one cent plus $2.49 s/h--a bargin! Also, an ootlegbay recording of THE WEDDING SINGER which seems to have a different tunestack than the OCR.
Tivo: Tony Awards and THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA, which I want to view again this weekend.
DVD: Woody Allen's MATCH POINT (so I can finally see how this ends.) ALso, the last SCTV set, which I never opened since getting it for Christmas.

Good morning everyone. Like Jose, last night was my first time viewing Sunset Boulevard in its entirety. Up to that point, I had only seen snipets of it. That Norma Desmond is a hoot, I might be her for halloween. I really enjoyed the movie and thought the performances were great- including Hedda's pre-show performance.

I enjoyed THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA last night. After hearing the cast recording so many times, it was very interesting seeing the physical production. I thought all of the performers were wonderful, particularly Victoria Clark, Katie Clark and Aaron Lazar (a new B'way hunk.)
One thing that I wasn't too enamoured of--the crane shots! Too many of them and at times during intimate moments that should have been closer shots.
As far as I know, previous LIVE FROM LINCOLN CENTER broadcasts have never been released on DVD, but I wouldn't be surprised if this one will be at some point in order to help cover the costs of the broadcast.

I read MAN/HAT years ago and loved it. It was once adapted as an opera which in turn was filmed for British TV. I've scanned the web a few times to see if there was a DVD but I've never been able to find it.

Good morning!
Looks like we're going to be in something of a rut for the next few days. Cool morning and hellish hot afternoons and evenings. If I can get the house cooled down in the mornings, A/C might be able to stay off for the next few days.
Really depends on how hot it is when I go to bed. Last night was very cool, but I don't think upcoming nights will be.

Yesterday, DR Tomovoz wrote:
"A word or two of thanks of DR's Jose and Matt H and other viewers. It has been a long wait but the final episode of "Six Feet Under" will be aired here next week. I have appreciated not knowing where the characters go! The most rewarding TV experience I have had in decades! If only "Carnivale" had been allowed to continue to a worthy conclusion."
The show was too outstanding to even go close to ruining it for anyone else. And that final episode, well, let's just say I was awash in tears for much of the show, and the end was monumentally terrific.

Yep, "too many connections" was the error message I kept getting last night until the problem was finally straightened out. Glad everything seems to be working fine now.

Well....it seems, I have discovered on my own - that my computer problem was the Grisoft/AVG virus protection software I was using, which I uninstalled. Things seem to be moving along nicely.

Yes, DR Laura, it is very nice weather and the cool mornings are not very typical of June. I'm just not a "heat" person. Living in the South, one must get used to it, of course, but that doesn't make me like it even though it's ever-present during this time of year.
But I really don't mean to complain. We had a very mild winter and so far June has been mild. We'll see what happens.

DR DtM - I think each of the Haynes sisters married those songwriters/singers/producers Wallace and Davis....they had that BIG radio show, remember? They were on the Ed Harrison show all the time when they were on Broadway....
True, but they could never go back to Florida. There were still outstanding warrents on the books for their arrest over that hotel carpet affair.

Yes, I'm up and tried to log on only to find:
Too many connections
I really want to call these people - I'm paying a lot of money every year, but they are not always happy to talk to unhappy people and their attitude is always "go somewhere else". It's unbelievable really, but not as unbelieveable as not ever offering an explanation other than telling us it's our fault (which they can't do anymore because we fixed what they asked us to - hence no explanation). However, if it happens again today, the call will be made.
-
I read MAN/HAT years ago and loved it. It was once adapted as an opera which in turn was filmed for British TV. I've scanned the web a few times to see if there was a DVD but I've never been able to find it.
Wow, I had no idea it had been turned into a theatrical piece. Although I guess it shouldn't surprise me since another of his books, Awakenings was made into a movie.
-
I heard about this on NPR this morning. They said something about scientists stating that lobsters and crabs have such primitive nervous systems, similar to insects, that they don't experience pain in the same way as mammals. They said they don't even have brains.
Ahhh, scientists.....well, then......
-
Oh! Wow! I'm actually "connected"...now someone else will get the "too many connections" message I've consistently gotten this morning, along with:
Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (11)

Soon I shall be making my way to Queens for lunch with Rodzinski. I don't have to go into work until 6 so I am considering seeing XMen after lunch. Or I may just visit the park with a good book.
-
I'm among those who watched "Light in the Piazza" last night.
I thought it was fantastic! I couldn't take my eyes off it for a second and the performances were superb.
It's not the most accessible "musical" I've ever seen, but it's phenomenal theater...and I'm grateful I got to see it.
-
Good Morning!
...And that's about all my still-clouded head can muster right now.
-
Maybe match.com or some other online dating service can use that as their slogan "Too many connections... at least one of them is bound to be good." Or something like that.
-
And, yes, I was getting the "Too Many Connections" and "Server Not Responding" messages too earlier.
-
I'm heading down to Monroe WA in a few minutes, to have the 60,000 servicing on my Honda Hybrid - Yipes! so many miles in two and a half years... well, it's been one eventful time, I tell ya'... And the way folks are gobbling hybrids - yes, it DOES get 50 mpg - I could get almost the same $$$ I paid for it!!! if I sold it tomorrow!
Have a good one, kidz.
PS - JRand - hope you get the part - should be a very fun gig.
AND - eight shows a week is grueling and very hard on an actor. Trust me on this. It's not How Hard the music is, it's having to deliver a performance 8 times a week. So if an actor gets it into his/her contract that they only have to do 6 a week, with a couple of performances off back to back, it's wonderful. IMHO.
-
I got someone on the phone over there - the helpful guy - and I guess he's on this now since we're up. He's really nice, and I told him that this was all very annoying since we'd fixed all our problems. He said he'd look into it and get back to me - he hasn't gotten back to me but at least we're up for now. I'm off to breakfast with Alet, and then I shall return. Guess I'll be jogging later in the day today, which will be a nice change of pace.

As for The Light in the Piazza...
I watched the opening of it last night off the DVR before going to bed. It really is a beautiful score. The second time I saw it in the theatre, I was basically tearing up each time a song started. However...
I do miss the original cast. Well, more precisely, I miss Kelli O'Hara. Katie Clarke handles the material well, but there's just too much of that pop-theatrical-belt placement in her voice. At least for this score... at least for me. And I was also hoping that Matthew Morrison's understudy, David Burnham, would have been given the role after Matthew Left. I do like Aaron Lazar, but David sings those songs beautifully - and in the original higher keys. However, he's still the understudy for Fabrizio, and he gets to ride the bike around on stage every night during the opening. :)
-
Too many mornings with too many connections - I feel a Sondheim tune coming along. And it was Mrs. Lovett who says something about corriander, that's what makes the gravy grander. More hot pies! More hot! More pies!
-
...And Ms. Clarke takes off the Tuesday and Wednesday evening performances... And she did not start doing that until well into the run, not until this past February.
-
*And for those Food Network fans out there... They rebroadcast one of their Wedding Specials this past weekend, the one where a lucky couple got their wedding catered by the Food Network. Well, it turned out to be Aaron Lazar's wedding last summer.

Friday greetings! Last night was the June meeting of my book group. In May we'd read The Jane Austen Book Club and last night we were the Jane Austen book club. Everybody had read at least one JA novel, except our mother-of-a-toddler, who watched film versions of all but Persuasion. Our hostess served syllabub and ginger snaps and chardonnay, which we enjoyed on the screened porch with the fireflies swarming outside. It was delightful.

der Brucer
Yep, that whole backstage area is quite the obstacle course too. Whenever an actor makes an exit downstage, in order to make the next entrance upstage, he/she has to walk through the orchestra pit area, through a short hallway, up a set of stairs, through another hallway... And then if he/she has a costume change to deal with too during that time...

Otto hates the vacuum cleaner. The other day we had him groomed and he had to be left in the presence of other schnauzers. As a whole, he's not used to other dogs yet. Upon our return to pick him up, (he looks fabulous now) we asked how he did with the other dogs. The groomer said he was great after she gave him a spritz or two in the face with the water bottle and he began to behave. We've adopted this tool as a disciipline tool and it's done wonders in the last four days. Today, I vacuumed with Otto, who played with the vacuum cleaner (chase actually) instead of barking at it like it was a monster. All that after one spray of water, amazing, we think.

...And, yes, there may be people who look down on actors and actresses who can't a do a full eight-show week, but I have to respect those actors and actresses who know their limits - physical and/or mental - and will only put themselves on stage when they are able to give that 110% to the show and to the audience.
And to play the Devil's Advocate as it were... Victoria Clark has now been with The Light in the Piazza for at least three years. If she wants to take a show or two off each week...

OH...My apologies...
Victoria Clark plays Margaret Johnson.
Katie Clarke plays Clara.
I was adding "e"s left and right to both Clark's. ;)

We used to use the same spritz bottle on Fletcher - until he decided that it was fun (a few times he even teased Woody and dashed away to get tracked down and spritzed). I wonder how a fire estinguisher would work :D

Since he asked me to post that he'd written me again: I got another missive from our favorite internet stalker, boredetector, in which he accused me of the following (which I posted on a chat board when someone mentioned The Tall Guy's spoof of The Elephant Man - I'd said that I'd done a musical spoof of The Elephant Man, also entitled Elephant! years before they had):
Congrats on taking credit for the musical version parody of Elephant Man! Did you enjoy it in the movie "The Tall Guy" from two decades ago? Ever wonder why you get so few bites to your "me me me" posts? Hmm.
p.s. Don't forget to discuss this this email in your next post about what you ate for lunch.
Unfortunately for our stalker, I had to point out the following:
The Tall Guy - shot and released in 1989
Likely Stories (the Showtime comedy series for which I shot my musical spoof of The Elephant Man) - shot and aired in 1983.
OOPS.
Now, what do we do about this stalker, aside from ignoring him. I have the feeling he's so obsessed that he will keep e-mailing me. I know WHERE he's e-mailing from, and I know there are things one can do, so should I do them or just ignore the missives?

Back from my morning break/walk....it's H-O-T out there in the sun, this morning...worked up a nice sweat.

Friday , June 16, 2006
DENVER — It'll take more than public service campaigns to solve the nation's obesity problem, according to fitness experts who say neighborhoods must be designed so people can get around without their cars.
…
Proof that people will accept an active lifestyle and walk to parks and shopping if they can is found in the "new urbanism" style of planned communities, the experts contend.
Sounds like Manhattan to me!

I am intrigued and fascinated and afraid all at the same time, DR MBARNUM....kind of like watching a Bert I Gordon movie!

WELL....on Monday I am giving a short talk to a group of middle school aged students about THEATRE SUPERSTITIONS and GHOST STORIES.
I am talking about The Scottish Play, Whistling backstage, the Drury Lane Ghost, the Ghost light....

WELL....on Monday I am giving a short talk to a group of middle school aged students about THEATRE SUPERSTITIONS and GHOST STORIES.
I am talking about The Scottish Play, Whistling backstage, the Drury Lane Ghost, the Ghost light....
And any other thing that the DR's might suggest. You can give me the info here, by email, or via a link. All will be appreciated by me AND the kids, I am sure....
Don't use green as the predominate color of your scenery:

Oh yes, DtM - the Haynes sisters are felons in Florida...maybe their brother Benny can fix it when he gets back from Alaska.
I think they sort of pushed and plussed their way out of show business.
-
Got my errands done in a jiffy and back into the relative cool of the house.
Oh, but it's hot outside. When I opened the door to get the mail, the hot air just WHOOSHED in. Argh!
-
And when the time came to sit down to watch something, I totally neglected my Friday Media Check, and I watched some CSI episodes which I had cued up from the night before. I watched three back-to-back: one involving a tragic fire, one involving the murder of a male and female police officer in a hotel room, and one involving a psychotic man whose normal body temperature was 103 degrees.
-
Who isn't? :o ;D ::)
As nice as I think you are, you can count me out of the sexually-obsessed-with-you camp.
No offense intended, of course.
;D
-
Then, I watched THE BELLE OF NEW YORK which I had recorded off TCM yesterday. The laserdisc may be a tad more colorful, but the TCM broadcast was definitely in sharper focus, so I burned a DVD-R from that source.
Despite starring Fred Astaire, I'm not going to hold my breath for Warners to release this on DVD (or Fred's other MGM box-office misfire YOLANDA AND THE THIEF).
-
TOnight I plan to get to LUXERY LINER, the 1948 Jane Powell musical which came in the double feature laserdisc sleeve with NANCY GOES TO RIO. I have never seen LUXERY LINER, so it will definitely be something new to watch.
-
We used to use the same spritz bottle on Fletcher - until he decided that it was fun (a few times he even teased Woody and dashed away to get tracked down and spritzed). I wonder how a fire estinguisher would work :D
der Brucer
Do you want to try CO2 or some of that foam stuff?
-
...Fortunately, this is casual Friday...am wearing a Hawaiian shirt...not tucked in...so there is air circulation.
You are wearing something the shirt could be tucked into, right? I mean, sometimes this casual Friday thing gets taken a little too far...
-
Looks like I'll probably be doing another little gig for the Music Center, so that's nice.
-
I think I've basically done everything I need to do today, so that's nice, too.
-
As nice as I think you are, you can count me out of the sexually-obsessed-with-you camp.
No offense intended, of course.
;D
It's all me, isn't it Ron?
;D
-
I was just picking up my mail and I felt that everyone there was sexually obsessed with me. I just got that VIBE, baby, and that's what I'M talkin' about.
-
Yes, DR Laura, it is very nice weather and the cool mornings are not very typical of June. I'm just not a "heat" person.
I'm just teasing you, Matt. You can get me back next month when I complain about the humidity.
-
TOD: Michael Buble crooned to me today.
-
It's all me, isn't it Ron?
;D
:D...................................not.
Again...no offense intended. :-*
-
:D...................................not.
Again...no offense intended. :-*

;D
-
Well guess I'll toddle off now.... bye!!!
-
Off to my usual Friday afternoon pasttime: mopping the kitchen floor. Ugh!
WBBL.
-
TOD
CD: SONGS FROM RAGTIME (The Concept Album)
DVD: BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA starring Juan Diego Flórez (I believe he is the only person in the entire opera)
ADVENTURE OF SUPERMAN, Season 2
Book: Clive Cussler's BLACK WIND
P.S Last night I watched an episode of THE HARDY BOYS with guest star Rick Nelson. Damn, the older he got, the better he looked. It was eerie that this episode dealt with a rock star whose private jet was possibly going to crash.

WBBL.
I did this at home on Tuesday...and dedicated it to you.

If it were me, I would just delete without reading them. And if there is a way to designate his email address as spam, I would do that as well.
-
Good idea, TPunk. I just don't like the thought of him trying to think he can just put out this false crap and get away with it - but he's obsessed and revels in it and that's his sickness, not mine.

That is a good idea TPunk, but I think it gives spam a bad name.
-
If I thought anyone would be interested in the fact that I am about to do the weekly shopping for fruit and vegetables I'd post about it.
Instead I shall mention that I am still enjoying "Arrested Development" (Series 2). Liza is wonderful - and I'm not usually a fan.

A wonderful show. That is why I knew it would never last.

From a psychological perspective, he probably has an obsessive personality type. I'm guessing that this is not the first time that he has become fixated on something or someone and nor will it be the last. If you ignore him and do not give him any of the attention he so badly desires, he will soon move on to the next fixation. As much as I always want to set things straight with folks like this, I've come to realize that you can never get in the last word. There is no reasoning, no explaining and no coming out on top. You can't be logical or reasonable with someone who is not capable of reason.

BK, did you know that, according to Amazon.com, the aduio CD of ON THE FLIP SIDE will be released on June 29, 2006?

Yuck, I need to get rid of Post Number 4666!
Mr. Barnum, have you ever tried to interview Steve Reeves?

Mr. Barnum, have you ever tried to interview Steve Reeves?
No, unfortunately he passed away before I could do so. He did write his autobiography a few years back however, and I keep meaning to pick it up.

Wow, I didn't realize that he had been dead for six years.

TPunk, you are very wise indeed.
TCB - I have a Japanese CD of On The Flip Side, but I do dearly love the mini-LP style CDs, so I'll probably have to get it. I gather the import that I have is hard to find now.

Mini-Lp style cds are cute but it's so hard sometimes to get the cd out of the sleeve!
I have the jewel-case cd as well and I'll keep it that way! :)
-
DR Ron,
I hope you'll go back to the Oakland Museum to see the temporary Disneyland exhibit there! I know I would if I could, which should not surprise anyone here, except BoredETRACTOR!

I just can't believe that the show was televised forty years ago, and we still have to get it on a CD that is imported from Japan!

This is quite UNSEEMLY! ;D ;)

Yes! Those Japanese are NOT resentful, I'm tellin' ya! ;)

I'm back from a lovely dinner with my friend Valerie. We went to Good Enought To Eat, only they didn't have their spectacular strawberry shortcake tonight (damn!). We did have a wonderful mean (me, meatloaf; she, caesar salad and grilled shrimp) and tete-a-tete. I'm all caught up on the Barnes & Noble gossip.
Now, I think I'll watch a couple of BERKELEY SQUARE episodes.
-
We did have a wonderful mean......
I only know you as wonderful! Not mean at all! :D ;)

Good vibes to Tomovoz for his fruit and veggie shopping!! AH!

This sounds a lot like an exhibit der Brucer and I enjoyed at the National Building Museum (http://www.tourofdc.org/museums/NationalBuildingMuseum/) in Washington, D. C., only greatly expanded. What der B and I saw filled just three rooms, mostly with drawings backed with a (very) few 3-D pieces. Even so, what was there was wonderful to see.
-
I've got a pair of duck legs roasting in a slow oven, which I'll be basting with a hoisin/Grand Marnier sauce over starting in about ninety minutes. Should be good eating here in Rehoboth in about two hours.
(Good thing I'm checking my spelling myself instead of relying on the computer. I almost wrote "duck legs" with an (alternate vowel) instead of a U, which I'm sure our ever-lovin' TCB would never have let me forget! :o ::) ;D)

FOR ALL YOU LPs LOVERS!!!!!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
May I plug a new book written by a friend of mine with the help of a friend of his?
MOUSE TRACKS
By Tim Hollis and Greg Ehrbar.
The Story of Walt Disney Records.
This takes you behind the scenes at the Walt Disney Studios, tracing the company's recording history from the 1950s through today. It's filled with anecdotes, reminiscences and biographies of the artists who brought Disney magic to audio.
Included are impressions and details of teen princesses Annette Funicello and Hayley Mills, the Mary Poppins phenomenon, Fess Parker and Davy Crockett, and more. Includes reproductions of album covers and art, photos of performers, and related promotional material. A rare subject, never before covered with this depth.

Save one for me and I'll join you!! :D
Last time I was there was in 1974! :o

I have to use my free passes before they expire!
You mean... they put expiration dates to free passes now? They did not use to!
Oh you, Uncle Scrooge! >:(

Oh you, Uncle Scrooge! >:(
We got a pair twice a year and they had about a 2 year expiration date. About a year after I started working there, I got my silver pass so I never had to use them. Since I left, I've already had one expire so now I want to use them before they all go bad. I actually think I have 2 that are going to expire at the end of this month in case anyone wants to make a trip.

Whilst you're detouring, let me tell you you'd better be stopping in the City of Studio for a very special local gathering.

As much as I love Disneyland, I don't think it has ever been the same since they did away with the Ticket Books. In those days, families would come, they would buy some ticket books, and when the tickets were gone; they would go back to the hotels / motels for the rest of the day. Now they come first thing in the morning and they never leave until closing.
-
Trying to figure out what I want to eat for dinner. I figure I jogged enough to work off most of the light breakfast I had. I have such a craving for pizza, and I may just go get a couple of slices from the Wolgang Puck's at Gelson's - I look at their pizza slices every time I'm there and they look incredibly incredible.

Okay, the hotlines have been turned off for the evening and I am heading out the door.
-
Ooo, Disneyland! My first visit there was New Year's Eve (day) 1971, the day before Michigan lost a heartbreaker to Stanford in the Rose Bowl. We were at Disneyland along with both schools' marching bands.
My second visit was with DH Richard and DS Rob when DS was 10 years old. We took a bus from our hotel, did rides all day, took a swimming and dinner break back at our hotel, and went back for the evening parade and fireworks. We had to run for the bus back "home," and Rob fell into his seat, laughing, and said, "I've had the time of my life today!" So had I.

RE: DR RLP's horrific story. It reminded me of something that happened this past Sunday.
I was driving with my mom. I got off the highway and the road sort of veered to the right. Anyhow the car in front of me did not go the required way. It instead made a sharp u-turn left.
Since i know this area well, i realized that the person was turning onto oncoming traffic (people coming off the highway in the other way).
It completely freaked me out, because i was afraid they would get hit head on.
Since there was nobody behind me, i slowed down and started and honking like crazy. Thankfully i saw that the car stopped and did another u-turn (in the middle of the road). Stupid, but at that point it was probably smart.
I've been trying to think why this car would do that. And i am now thinking that they obviously knew that they were not allowed to make that abrupt left u-turn. But that they probably realized they were going the wrong way, and figured that the right hand side of the road (which they went on) would be going in the correct direction.
At least that explanation doesn't make me think they are as completely idiotic as i did that day. But i was really happy they did not get hit.
-
I watched the first act and intermission of LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA. I really liked it. ANd really loved Victoria Clark (have liked her since TITANIC). I also did like the Kelli O'Hara/Clara replacement. Pretty good for first time on Broadway.
I wasn't as thrilled with the Italian songs (since i didn't really understand what they were saying). But loved how Patti C. handled it (i think at the beginning of act 2 where i stopped it).
Very good show. I read the synopsis when the show came out. But i actually don't remember how it ends. So i am excited to watch Act 2.

7:36 and I'm the only one in the jernt? What a revoltin' development this is. Even Francois has deserted us. Well, the bitch-slap machine is coming out, baby.

Well, I'm still around but i am looking for things to say at 4:40 am here!
I was remembering that a French version of Lion King was to start this September here in Paris BUT I read it was postponed a FULL year because they realized that the French stage is shorter than the one they usually use so the sets have to be adapted to the new place!
Well, you might think like me that things like that would NOT happen to Disney but they do!
What were they thinking?!
Oh.... we're getting the Sam Mendès version of CABARET (in French, iyp!) this October!

I am fixing some chicken and am about to watch HOOTENANNY A GO-GO!
-
A sweet little film you may never get in the States; it's not a masterpiece but is loaded with charms; the picture, the colours, the acting, the mood!
Its title AVRIL is the name of the young lady, a novice who does not get to raise seven children but discovers life on a vacation to Camargue (South of France) with three young fellows, one of them being her twin brother that was separated from birth!
It's fresh and mellow and has no special effects no car chases....
Remember, you first heard about it HERE! LOL!

Is this the jernt?

Mr BK next week in your area will be one Mr Adam Long....I will probably see him tomorrow or Sunday and will pass along the message to call you. Thanks.

NO theatre legends or superstitions from HHW'ers?

I am fixing some chicken and am about to watch HOOTENANNY A GO-GO!
I don't know whether to be jealous or sympathetic. ;D
-
In the "Be careful what you want or you will surely get it" department, I've been whining that we haven't had rain....well we got over 4 inches in about 2 1/2 hours tonight and we're supposed to get more later tonight. So no more whining! Glad I sold my house in the flood plain and am now living at the top of the hill!
-
So, I have been E and T because we were having very strong thunder storms
-
Potential interesting development at the office.... something that just may make it a lot less stressful. I'm not going to say more now, but I'm going to think about it and will know more on Monday.
-
I had a mostly musical evening tonight. I began with SINGIN' IN THE RAIN. Don't know why I got an itch to watch it, but I put it on, and about halfway through, I switched over to the commentary track. It's a mismash of people talking about the film (and other films made at MGM and elsewhere), but as a commentary, it can't hold a candle to Ron Haver's track on the Criterion laserdisc. That's one of the finest commentaries I've ever listened to as a supplement to a film. Superb.
-
Next I put on LUXURY LINER. It's a typical Joe Pasternack film with trilling soprano Jane Powell, innocent older man tenor Lauritz Melchior, George Brent and Frances Gifford for lovers, and Xavier Cugat for rhythm and variety. Powell was still playing a variation of the Durbin Little Miss Fix-It in this. Thankfully, TWO WEEKS WITH LOVE was coming soon and she could leave those juvenile unromantic stories behind.
ANd once Pasternack inserted Mario Lanza into this mix, we got the operatic tenor as romantic lead. That was the very next year with THAT MIDNIGHT KISS.
-
[move=left,scroll,6,transparent,100%]Page Seven Dance!!![/move]
-
Then I watched the first episode on the second disc from THE WILD WILD WEST set. Ruta Lee was the love interest for COnrad in this episode, and John Dehner played his adversary. We also got to hear Ross Martin play the violin, and according to Conrad's audio introduction, Martin was an accomplished violinist, something I didn't know.
-
Since I read that all of the Judy Garland wardrobe tests weren't on the VALLEY OF THE DOLLS set (just the bits included in the "AMC Backstory" documentary, I decided to watch HOLLYWOOD SCREEN TESTS Take 2 to see all of the tests. I hadn't watched this in awhile, and it was most interesting seeing Angela Cartwright testing for the role in THE PRIME OF MISS JEAN BRODIE that Pamela Franklin played and Walter Matthau auditioning for Tom Ewell's role in THE SEVEN YEAR ITCH.
Reminded me that I haven't watched THE SEVEN YEAR ITCH in a long time, and it's time to take it out and watch it again.
-
And now I seem to be alone here so
good night!
-
This incessant WUSSBURGERING is nauseating in extremis.
-
No wussburger here. Just finished watching TWO-LANE BLACKTOP in widescreen on the tube. One of the all-time greats, in my opinion. You get remarkable performances from the non-actors James Taylor and Brian Wilson. Then mind-boggling performance from Warren Oates. Ever seen this, BK? Not sure if it would be your cup of tea or not, but there's really nothing like it.
-
I like Two Lane Blacktop. Even more, I like what I just watched: Patton.
-
I think I may jump in the shower. If I get bored of jumping whilst in the shower, then perhaps I'll do the hully-gully whilst in the shower.
-
I am my own frenzy.
-
A hearty welcome to our newest Dear Reader, DR (Dear Reader) Adriana Patti.
-
This evening we received a phone call inviting us to an evening of pizza and games.
-
Pizza and games ain't a bad way to spend the evening.
-
After work I met some friends at one of the piers overlooking the Hudson. Really a lovely night, and a nice view of sunset. Then TPunk got out of her job and came over. That made it more fun, and later we took a cab home.
-
Could explain why I could not get on at all last night....

TOD: Michael Buble crooned to me today.
I have really gotten into him. Wonderful singer.
-
Tiring. Must...go... to... sleep.
Interview in the paper with Eric Braeden today, Dakota, and said his character's behavior is taking quite a turn due to getting hit in the head or something.

We were hoping to do something along those lines.
I agree with Ginny, lots of pictures indeed.
AFter a long day and meetings in Bismarck, I will try and post my pictures tomorrow. I am too tired to think.

Media Check:
....Book: The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat by Oliver Sacks
I have the opera based on this book. I got the CD (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000025O9D/sr=8-2/qid=1150526290/ref=sr_1_2/102-4779504-7364131?%5Fencoding=UTF8) when I was in college (and haven't listened to it in quite a while. It's minimalist (similar, but not as minimal as Phillip Glass), and I'll admit an acquired taste, but I actually like it.
I read MAN/HAT years ago and loved it. It was once adapted as an opera which in turn was filmed for British TV. I've scanned the web a few times to see if there was a DVD but I've never been able to find it.
I never knew that it had been filmed!
-
I'm home and Margo's daughter has been safely moved back to her home. The drive down was uneventful, and in the CD player in the van (I was driving Margo's Honda Odyssey and Margo drove a pick-up truck borrowed from one of her friends), were the CDs, "ABBA: A Tribute: The 25th Anniversary Celebration," "Part of Your World: Debbie Shapiro Gravitte Sings Alan Menken" and "The Stephen Schwartz Album" (the latter two produced by our very own BK!). There was nothing in my VCRs (I totally forgot to check to see if there was anything that I wanted to tape) or DVD players.
-
Tiring. Must...go... to... sleep.

Interesting.... I have only seen bits and pieces of YR for I do nto get CBS without cable and I refuse to pay teh exorbitant fee the local company is charging.
Interestingly, Eric Braeden was born in Germany and his real first name is Hans.
-
I get two channels in decently: NBC and PBS. ABC on a good day. Right now NBC is on probation for viewing due to poor quality of material.
-
It rained a bit on the way down from Olympia, Washington to Portland, Oregon. When we got to the university, Alexis (Margo's daughter, whom we were moving) had saved two parking spaces right at the front door! Then, I found out that Alexis lived on the ninth floor! Fortunately, there was an elevator. It started raining a lot as we were bringing stuff down but we were able to wait out the rain undercover (it didn't last long) and got everything loaded up...tightly. It was questionable if it would all fit, but fit it did. :)
Alexis bought a tarp to cover the stuff on the truck and I tied everything down. On the drive back, Margo and I were in the truck and Alexis and her friend (who also is from Olympia) drove the van. It only rained a for about 15-20 minutes during the whole drive and the tarp seemed to hold. However, when we finally got into Olympia, we realized that it had totally split down the middle (and out of view from the rear-view mirror because it was too tall), but the stuff didn't seem to be wet. It (and we) all arrived safe and sound! The worst part of the day was that we didn't get to go to The Cheesecake Factory in Portland. Darn. :P
-
As for my mom's birthday dinner at Applebee's...Margo and I didn't get back in time for me to make it. :-\ We planned to be back by five, but we actually didn't get back until seven. But it was just dinner at a restaurant. We go there a lot for birthdays. ;) I did get back in time to get over to my sister's house where everyone was and they were playing Phase 10 (our family game of choice). My sister bought (and I split the cost ::)) our mom a pair of decorative, cement plant urns. Our mom loves gardening and since she's retired, she can do a lot of it. She was very happy, so it all turned out well. ;D

As for catching up with today's posts...I've just now started on page 2. :)
