Well, you've read the notes, the notes seemed like Saturday notes and yet were Friday notes, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they were going to come home on Friday, but since it seemed like Saturday they decided to stay put.
-
And the word of the day is: JUVENESCENT!
-
Well, I had an absolutly wonderful night. After reading Kritzerland ( waiting with baited breath for Kritzertime), I saw the fabulous Kevin Spirtas perform acts or sheer amazment and delight. After a lovely piece of cheese cake and some gossip, I was lucky enough to be drivin home by the star of tonight's show.....
But there was an event, a pinnicle of my life, that topped even that tonight...
Bruce Kimmel Proposed!
I dont know what to say I was flabergasted ( what a disgusting word ). We would of course be living in separate residences and living our own lives...but it is still important! I have not yet givin him an anwser, I do not feel I have known him long enough.
What do the dear readers think..you have known him far longer than I have.... Please Help Me!
-
I vote for the first haineshisway.com marriage ceremony. I think it would be a fine marriage, especially the living in separate residences and having nothing to do with each other part. I mean, we'd have lovely meals together, and we'd chat and have fun and all that, but, you know, it would be a marriage in the best sense - rarely seeing one's partner.
-
A marriage of convenience!

Yesterday, DakotaCelt wrote:
Hmmm, wonder if Matt would ever do The Full Monty??
I doubt it, he seems rather classy.
A tour of the show came to Olympia earlier this year (a friend of DR Jason's was in the cast!) and I got to work backstage during the show (and no...we weren't allowed to look at all! ;)).
Anyway, I think that it's a wonderful show with a great score and loads of heart (I remember that when it first opened on Broadway, all the reviews said that it was going to be nominated for every Tony Award...it was, but then The Producers opened and won them all). I think that Matt would be wonderful in the show. And the audience never really sees anything. At the the very end of the show, when they really do "the full monty," they're backlit by very, very, very bright lights, so it's almost impossible to see at all, let alone be able to focus on any naughy bits. ;D
-
There is the slight age difference - but that didn't stop Mr. Charles Chaplin and Miss Oona O'Neill, did it? That didn't stop Mr. Tony Randall and his ever-lovin' twenty-three year old, did it (Mr. Randall being seventy-three at the time)? I feel this will be a finer than fine marriage, and I do know that Mr. Charles Pogue will not only be all for it, he will serve as the Best Man. Now, let's choose the maid of honor and the flowergirls.
-
Re The Full Monty - unless you're sitting in the front row, as I was. All the bright lights in the world can't hide the Monty from the front row.
-
Ahh...I was off stage right with robes for the curtain call and we were told...no, commanded...to look down and hold the robes above (and in front of) our heads so that we couldn't see anything.
-
Time for bed...good night, BK. :)
-
If there's anything more gallumphing than a Giselle in a Girdle, that would be me trying to catch an 8 a.m. plane. But I somehow seem to be on schedule, so if all goes right, I'll be in Seattle later this morning (Seattle time), and in Issaquah by this afternoon.
George - Thanks for the report on last night's show at the Village Theatre Festival. The theater sounds intimate in the way it's designed, but when I multiply your numbers, 20 rows of 12 seats each still sounds like 240 SEATS TO FILL! I'm hoping Last Starfighter has a decent showing tonight in terms of seeming to fill that theater.

Good Morning!
Yes, it is I, DR JoseSPiano, posting at 7:00am EST. Your eyes are not deceiving you.
In short, I got up yesterday morning at 3:40am. I was on the road by 4:15am. I reached Fairfax, VA, a little before 9:00. After washing the road grime off of me, I headed into DC for my production meeting at 11:00am. I left said production meeting at 4:30pm, and got back to my parents' house at 5:30pm. Then I decided to take a nap around 6:30pm. The next thing I knew it was 5:30AM. So... That's why I've been errant and truant for the past 24 hours or so. Or something like that. In any case...
Good morning.
-
Since I got up, I've been taking care of stuff - bills, bills, bills - as well as catching up on e-mails. I have another meeting today at 10:00 - which I'll be showing up for around 11:00. The design staff is getting together today, and since I tend to have an eye for "Oh! Wait, you can't do that because then we can't do this" things, I have been invited to drop in if I so desire. And since I so desire, I shall drop in for a few hours. -Heck, it will also be a free lunch. -I'm not stupid! ;) -And then it looks like I'll get a chance to start moving into my temporary apartment here in DC later this afternoon too!
And then... ???
-
Well, I have yet to read the Notes - as well as catch up on the Posts from yesterday - but since it is Friday....

DR Jose - when did you get an iPod? What kind did you get? Are you enjoying it? Should I make plans to try to get to DC for She Loves Me?
DR FJL (who's probably airborne by now) - travel vibes and Starfighter broken legs!

Good morning, all! My father continues to improve. Last night my brother Randy and I took him a strawberry milkshake, which he liked, but he onlydrank a few ounces. We'll see how he's progressing today.
On the negative side, my evil brother mentioned the dread words "nursing home" yesterday to Randy. My biggest fear is that Lady Macbeth, who you all know has a problem, will be calling his oncologist and suggesting it on the grounds that Randy and Jo Ann are incapable of taking care of him. She's already telling people that Randy and Jo Ann are to blame for his being back in hospital and that my dad moved out of their house because they were too strict on controlling his medications. Alas, the reason he moved out was because Lady Macbeth on July Fifth had too much pills and liquor and told my dad what she thought he owed them, while my evil brother attacked me. Feeling betrayed by someone he cared about and trusted, he moved to Randy's the next day. He's been happy there, and Randy wants him back. Oy!
DR MattH, I mentioned the CAROUSEL remake on Wednesday, I believe, after I saw it mentioned on the Cast Recording List.
TOD: I only brought a few CDs to play in the car: THE TRAGIC AND HORRIBLE LIFE OF THE SINGING NUN, some Scott Joplin, BABES IN TOYLAND, my evil brother's and Lady Macbeth's blues band demo.
-
DR Elmore - glad to hear that your dad's improving, but sorry to hear that the drama continues. Hang in there and call me over the weekend if you get a chance.
-
I do hope that someday DR Andrea Patti will tell us the story behind her avatar...

Wait, I thought he proposed last week, or was that just asking your mother's permission ;)
-
Well, I'm off to Corn Days. I'm running late, but Paul's party went late. It was fun, but I had a little too much wine considering the heat in the house. I drank lots of water when I got home, so I'm not hurting just running slow.
-
I may be a bit e and t over the next few days. I'm not sure if I'll have internet access in my home town. Well, at least not at my parents house. My dad had dial-up, but I think he cancelled it and hasn't got his high speed at that house right now.
-
Better run I still have a couple things to do and would like to be on the road asap
-
BK- Did you have the chili fries?
-
I'm up. Still. I found out what cable has to offer at 3:30 am...not much. I finally dozed off shortly before four, and slept fitfully on the couch until 5:20, at which time I moved to the bed for an hour of dozing in a more comfortable position. I don't think that I ever got to an actual sleeping stage, but at least I rested my body. My stomach is still in full jumping mode, I'm afraid, but I'm going to attempt to go to work anyway. Maybe I can get off early...
DR Elmore, vibes to you and your family as you deal with this stressful situation. I hope sense and goodness prevail and your father is allowed to live where he feels the most comfortable.
-
Good Morning!
WOW! I've said it before, and I'll say it again... It's amazing how much you can get done when you wake up before 10:30am!
;D
Laundry, bill paying, breakfast, car-washing, gas station for a fill up, clean the inside of my car, replace windshield wipers, refill my windshield-wiper fluid tank, top off my coolant tank, etc., etc., etc...
I may have to get used to think waking up "early" thing....
NOT!
;D
-
...Of course, I did basically get 12 hours of sleep, so... In any case...
-
DR elmore - Glad to know things in Ohio are improving - in general, at least.
I'm about to write you an e-mail, so check in a couple of minutes.
-
TOD - DVD: Capote
-
DR Ginny - I'm not sure about She Loves Me just yet. That doesn't open until mid-November, I think, anyway. In the meantime, there's Cabaret to deal with.
*I have to say, that for such a "popular" show, it's amazing how dark it is. Even before Sam Mendes got his hands on it.
**Oh, and it turns out Arena already has an MD for She Loves Me - who I believe was the guy in line for the Civil War Christmas show which got postponed. The assistant slot is still open, and we'll discuss that possibility/option next week. Stay tuned for details.
-
Good Morning, DR SWW and DerBrucer!
-
Good Morning, DR Ann!
-
OK - I have a few e-mails to take care, and then it's off to SouthWest DC for my production meeting at Arena...
Laters...
-
Good morning!
This is supposed to be the last of our hellish hot days for awhile, but I'll believe it when I feel it. When I went out to get the newspaper this morning at 8 a.m., it felt like it was 90 outside (actually, 81). Completely dead, hot, humid air.
-
THE FULL MONTY was a wonderful show, and Matt Ashford (or any other hunky actor who can sing) would be lucky to be in it. Great storylines for the guys, decent music (I preferred David Yazbeck's score for DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS more, but MONTY was his first effort for Broadway and a winning one), an entertaining show.
-
I'm sorry I missed your post on the possible new CAROUSEL film, DR Elmore, because I certainly think it's a great idea and would love to have discussed it with the forum.
-
I finally heard from Amazon yesterday that the MR. MOTO collection had shipped. Ordinarily, I'd expect it on Saturday, but with the shoddy mail service we've had here lately, I doubt it will come until mid-week next week.
-
One thing I am really anticipating in the mail is the last EBay item I won: the Criterion laserdisc of SINGIN' IN THE RAIN. This is the version that contains the Ron Haver running commentary, one of the best commentaries I've ever listened to for a film.
Of course, nothing can match the stupendous image and sound quality of the special edition DVD, but I wanted that laserdisc strictly for that commentary, and was so happy I won it (especially so cheaply.)
-
BK, I'll be happy to serve as best man...but don't you already have several similar "common law" wives like this all over the country...women who you are besotted with on Thursday (or Wednesday or any other day of the week) so long as they keep to their neck of the woods and don't hem you in? I'm not sure how the rest of your long-distance, heart-broken young harem will take the news...Charming as you are, I'm sure they'll accept it all with good grace, even though it means they must once again subdivide the bounty of your affection with yet another.
There was a song written for BK, "When I'm not near the one I love...I'm very relieved."
I had a Bruce Kimmel nostalgia night last night. (Guess I'm missing you, old son) Watched bits and pieces of WHAT IF? and FIRST NUDIE MUSICAL. WHAT IF? is still a marvel and I kept wondering if Central Kentucky audiences would be hip enough to get this show? It would be perfect for the local professional theatre on whose board I now am a member. My other question is how do you that laugh that you did in First Nudie Musical and can you still do it?
You were also invoked yesterday on a local theatre board here in a discussion about Li'L Abner. I gave them a link to Kritzerland, so you may gets some hits
It's opening night again for The Lovely Wife. She's been directing a group of teens all summer in a program called "Page to Stage" in conjunction with the theatre here, Actors' Guild of Lexington (the one whose board I'm on) and the Lexington Library. They took a book, The Sledding Hill by Chris Crutcher, developed it into a play and give two performances tonight and tomorrow. So all vibes and xylophones will be appreciated.
-
Friday Media Check:
CD - CARMEN JONES (soundtrack)
DVD - CAPTAIN JANUARY
LITTLE WOMEN (the 1949 version with June Allyson)
THE DETECTIVE
DVR - last night's THE OFFICE
PROOF
laserdisc - (hopefully) SINGIN' IN THE RAIN
-
Of course, there are new episodes of MONK and PSYCH tonight for those interested.
-
DR Charles Pogue - "Page to Stage" sounds like wonderfully inventive, collaborative program! Broken leg wishes to your wife and her young troupe!
-
Have my usual Friday errands to run, so off now to get cleaned up to go face the heat and humidity of outside.
WBBL.
-
I'm up, I'm up. I must say I've only been getting about five hours of sleep every night and it's starting to get to me.
Cillaliz - didn't have the chili fries - they scare me, actually.
Pogue - I can still do the John Smithee laugh.
-
I do hope that someday DR Adriana Patti will tell us the story behind her avatar...
Well, this was the hollywood high school production of Gypsy in which I compleatly dominated the first 15 minuets as the incredibly perky and flexible Baby June. The costume I am wearing is compleatly hand made by MY MOTHER. I was in the middle of humbly picking up the beautiful costumes our lovely diva gypsy rose had left simply stewn all over the stage floor ( rented from Sony ), because she could not be bothered to pick them up.
She never worked with a director at that school again, and I got the lead in next sememsters play.... ;)
-
DR Adriana Patti - thanks for the story about your avatar! You're very cute as Baby June and your mother is a very talented seamstress. The diva got what she deserved. What was the next semester's play?
-
Hiya, kids!
I got back to the cabin at around 8 pm last night. Gosh, it's wonderful to be back. The raccoons came at about 2:30 - I heard them clunking around on the deck, and gave them cat food which I keep handy for their nocturnal visits. One of them is quite tame and reaches his hand into the bowl even as I'm pouring kibbles. And now, to the birds! I'll see if they will hop onto my knee to get peanuts. May take a few days for them to remember I don't eat blue jays..
And tonight I'll hie me to Issaquah, to the Village Theater, where Mr. Landau's Starfighter is playing. That'll be fun. Maybe I'll see our DR George, too.
Off to peanut the birds. More later.
-
Well, this (http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2006/08/04/DDGQVKA2CJ1.DTL&type=performance) tells me that I'd better get a couple of tickets for A Chorus Line!

Elmore, I'm glad to hear that your father's health is improving but very disappointed to hear that Lady McB is being such a b. What do you think her motivation is for wanting him moved to a nursing home?? If your father and brother are happy with their living arrangement and the rest of the family excluding Lady McB are comfortable, then there doesn't really seem to be a reason to change things. Is there a hospital social worker that you have been working with or can loop into things? If everyone is happy and your father is getting the care he needs, I can't see a social worker recommending a move. Your dad should be somewhere where he is comfortable and cared for by family and friends rather than being moved to a new environment.
End of social worker rant.
-
...And tonight I'll hie me to Issaquah, to the Village Theater, where Mr. Landau's Starfighter is playing. That'll be fun. Maybe I'll see our DR George, too...
Have fun, DR PennyO - hope to see some pictures!
I'm glad to see that you survived your RV adventure and that you're back in your peaceful cabin.
-
I had to go out and do an errand, and now I'll try to gird my loins to jog. Must write a bit today - it's been difficult to find time this week.

Man Tells Court Sex With Boys is Sacred Ritual
Friday , August 04, 2006
CLEVELAND — A man accused of sexually assaulting nine boys with physical or mental disabilities told a judge that having sex with children is a sacred ritual protected by civil rights laws.
Phillip Distasio, who said he is the leader of a church called Arcadian Fields Ministries, represented himself at his pretrial hearing Wednesday. He is charged with 74 counts including rape, pandering obscenity to minors and corrupting another with drugs.
"I'm a pedophile. I've been a pedophile for 20 years," he said in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court Wednesday. "The only reason I'm charged with rape is that no one believes a child can consent to sex. The role of my ministry is to get these cases out of the courtrooms."
Distasio said some of his congregants are among the victims in this case. Distacio, of Rocky River, is accused of molesting two disabled boys he tutored at his home and raping seven autistic boys at a Cleveland school for special-needs students where he was a teacher's aide. All but one of the victims were under 13.

My dad is out of ICU and in the very same room he occupied four weeks ago! He's had a very good day, but the only problem still is his voice and diction. He was given an EKG this afternoon and I think the vocal problems may be responsible. The physical therapist had him up and walking, so things are looking better.
DR MattH, there was a whole Cast Recording List thread on the movie today, with lots of negative opinions, one of them being our former DR William Lurie. I think the original film is such a poor representation of a dark show, but I think Jackman's too old, and the cast should be in their early 20s when the film begins. I wish the project well, however, and I think Jackman's a good choice for many reasons.
DR TPunk, Lady Macbeth is a bitch. I believe that as soon as she gets out of bed and begins pouring Bailey's Irish Cream into her coffee, she thinks of various ways to make others miserable. She no longer wants to care for my Dad, resented it when she had the responsibility, and she doesn't want him happy and content any more than she wants Randy and Jo Ann showing her up as his caretakers. She's a conniving liar, and I think my evil brother's outburst against my inheriting a third of my father's estate is a result of her wanting it all: why divide something three ways when two ways guarantees a bigger piece of the pie?
I suspect her whole radiation burn megillah is another lie for two things: more attention and I wouldn't be surprised if my dad's estate got a bill from her for damages. Her father is a good bluegrass guitarist and she's a frustrated performer with, I think, the same chip on her shoulder as one of rhe least favorite recording artiists I worked with on a Comden & Green album: I'M-NOT-THE-STAR-I-DESERVE-TO-BE-GODDAMMIT!
-
I was just looking through the Village Theatre program (they just have one for the entire series) and one of the cast members in tonight's The Last Starfighter is our very own Jessica Skerritt!! What a coinkydink! ;D She plays Maggie/Alien Recruit.
-
I really cannot describe how dreadfully hot and uncomfortable it was going to a couple of stores on my errands this afternoon. And then walking back to my car across a sweltering asphalt packing lot was hideous. I was dripping with sweat, and even though I had just showered, I seriously considered taking another one just to not feel so sticky. Right now, after 4 p.m. here, it's 96.
-
When I got in from my errands, I brought in the mail and was disappointed that I got no packages at all. Imagine my surprise when around 3 p.m., the doorbell rang, and it was the mailman bringing back a package he had failed to leave - my SINGIN' IN THE RAIN laserdisc!
Since I was already watching something that would take me up to the end of my afternoon viewing time, I put it aside knowing what I'd be watching tonight when I fired up the TV again. Can't wait!
-
I began my afternoon viewing with the 1949 LITTLE WOMEN. The Technicolor looked good enough to eat, and it's a very sharp, clear transfer of the film to DVD.
I haven't watched the Cukor/Hepburn version in a long time (have always loved it), but I enjoy this version too, even if June Allyson is way too old for Jo.
-
A marriage of convenience!
Could be interesting...
-
Next, I put in CAPTAIN JANUARY. I'm pleased to report the Fox transfer of this classic Shirley Temple film looks very good. Yes, there are some scratches that run along the right side of the frame for a bit, but they aren't terribly distracting, and it certainly looks better than any televised showing I've ever seen.
-
Today is Friday.
Best of vibes to DR CP's DW DR JULIANA for her opening night tonight! It sounds like a wonderful program and presentation!
-
Best of vibes to MR BK on his stage appearance this evening...I am sure it will be a smash!
-
TOD:
VHS: A Study in Terror a Sherlock Holmes/Jack the Ripper movie produced by Mr Herman Cohen....
DVD: HERCULES AND THE MEDUSA featuring friend of DR MB, Mr Richard Harrison, who always wears TOO much as Hercules so he won't have to shave his chest....
CD: John Pizzarelli - New Standards..

Ug, what timing. I had a drop in counseling session this morning that was very challenging for these very same reasons. But I have to focus on the positive which is that this person sought help. And now, I am having some wine.
-
Working hours and hours re arranging everything in my room....and it is just about where I want it to be.
My nephew found a rattlesnake in his living room yesterday.....the DNR has said that they haven't heard of one this far north in the county in many years. If it's a male it's just passing through....if it's a female and they see it again, notify them immediately....

Maybe you can explain to her that placing your father in a nursing home would only eat away at her inheritance. That might be something she could understand. ;D

Shall we move to page four?

I just read HERE (http://www.playbill.com/news/article/101264.html) on Playbill.com that Ghostlight is going to record the new Off-Broadway revival of The Fantasticks. It says this about one song in particular:
The score is substantially the same as the original as well, though with a revised lyric for "It Depends on What You Pay." The original song, which used the word "rape" in the sense of "abduction," raised hackles and was replaced by a new song, "Abduction," in some productions over the past 20 years. For the 2006 Off-Broadway revival at the Snapple Theater Center Jones has gone back to the original melody and created a new lyric that uses synonyms for "abduction." The new version debuted in previews.

I love the June Allyson version of Little Women. My sister and I grew up watching it over and over again after my mom taped it off the TV. It is one of my all time favorite movies.

Only about an hour of the workday left - YAY! This evening I'm going out for a quick supper with a co-worker and a recently-retired co-worker and then we're going to a walking tour of the former site of the Watervliet Shaker Community. There we will meet my DH Richard, whose shape-note singing group was asked to perform.
-
And now, I must sort and fold some laundry.
-
Well I can't count.....not Page Four yet.
-
That's what the world needs - another recording of The Fantasticks. One thing's for certain - the label ain't paying for it. I'm bored of all this PC crap with It Depends On What You Pay. Shall we also change the title of The Rape of The Lock? At one point in the history of the show Tom added a little speech about the context and meaning of the word rape as regards the song - if audiences can't "get" it then that's a sad comment, I'm afraid.
-
And Tom needs to stop "revising" every show he's written - it's always for the worse and then the only way to license the shows is to agree to the revisions - his silly revising of I Do! I Do!, putting My Cup Runneth Over in act two, is incredibly inane and harmful. Sorry, the show wasn't broken so why fix it? Same with 110 In The Shade, which has had more tinkering than The Baker's Wife. Stop already. And, as much as I respect and admire him, Mr. Jones should not direct his shows.
-
We need four African American actors for TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD.
That is all.
-
DR TPUNK - wine helps just about every situation.
DR CP have you seen A Study in Terror? It's not a great Sherlock, the script is strange, but it is a lot of fun. And the production design, costumes, and acting all deserve a stronger story.
Features John Fraser and Judi Dench!
-
And I played the "guess who Herman chased around the desk" and found the actor quickly.
-
Tomorrow is the Brickyard 400.....Sunday starts the Old Settlers Picnic in Mooresville.
DR MATTH email me your snail mail address - I have something to send you.
-
More problems with the BMV and its computers....Indiana is a mess.
-
DR Adriana Patti - thanks for the story about your avatar! You're very cute as Baby June and your mother is a very talented seamstress. The diva got what she deserved. What was the next semester's play?
Just what I was going to say :D

Friday Media Check:
Golly I don't even know where to start...there are so many things I want to watch!
DVD: Got a whole DVD set of Jungle Jim movies for only $12.95 + they through in Gordon Scott's TARZAN'S HIDDEN JUNGLE! Wow...so will maybe watch one of those.
And from Netflix I got the steamy 1955 Egyptian soaper A GLASS AND A CIGARETTE starring Dalida as a "conniving nurse who attempts to seduce a married doctor."
CD: The two Bhangra CDs I got from the Indian store the other day.
DVR: Too much stuff!

Goodness! I think I would claim it is a female. Does he know what it is?
-
I love the June Allyson version of Little Women. My sister and I grew up watching it over and over again after my mom taped it off the TV. It is one of my all time favorite movies.
In her TCM interview, June admitted that LITTLE WOMEN was one of her three favorite films that she made. (If I remember correctly, the other two were THE STRATTON STORY and GOOD NEWS.)
-
Sounds like my nephew will be making the trip. He's going to check with his work on Monday and get back to me, but sounds like it's a go. I always travel alone, so this will be an adventure for me as well

Blackface won't work, eh?

I don't think I mentioned that I finished ORCHESTRA WIVES last night before starting in on regular TV.
The Glenn Miller music is sensational, of course, oh but what a tired little plot surrounding all that great swing! George Montgomery certainly did look great, though, No wonder Dinah Shore snapped him up when she got the chance!
-
Now, I'm going to go get that awful kitchen mopped so I can get back to my book ON EDGE and then on to SINGIN' IN THE RAIN.
WBBL.

elmore-sorry your brother doesn't stand up to his wife, or worse agrees with her. I'm glad you have Randy and Jo Ann there.
Good news your Dad is out of ICU-vibes he stays out!

Serves me right, reading too quickly. I thought the wording was "...how a woman ended up glued to a toilet seat in a male bathroom.
My bad.

DR Adriana Patti - thanks for the story about your avatar! You're very cute as Baby June and your mother is a very talented seamstress. The diva got what she deserved. What was the next semester's play?
we put an a fantastic production of the Importance of Being Ernest, and I was cast as Cecily Cardew.
-
DRJANE - it was a timber rattler, whatever that is. And I would have said it's a female just to get them out there.
It had gotten in the house when my nephew went out and its tail was stuck in the closed door.....when his wife yelled and he came back in, it slithered back out and under the house.

Isn't it funny what working in retail does to the weekend? ;D

I don't know why, but today we had more screaming tots in the store than we've had for quite some time.
I really felt sorry for Tonia, one of the Russian students that works for us. She had the cash register closest to the frozen foods department (which I've nicknamed Siberia), and somehow got stuck with more squalling kids than any of the rest of us. There was one little girl who was throwing a horrible tantrum. Her voice would start with a long wail, then suddenly double in volume and simultaneously go up an octave. The brat's parents just stood there, ignoring her. Tonia somehow managed to conduct the sale as if this were all normal. Remind me to bring this up to management.
The kids who weren't raising a vocal ruckus were instead acting out in other ways. One lad insisted on playing with the back-end conveyor belt at my register, turning it on and off, and sticking his hand on the belt while it was running, not a safe thing to do. I had to tell him that it was not a toy, and not to be played with. Fortunately, his mother didn't take exception to my talking to the boy (yes, I've had parents bluster that I have no right to speak to their children under any circumstances, while they themselves don't watch out for their child's safety).
This could be a very long weekend.

TIME FOR DINNER!!

Der B has some shopping for us to do. Laters.

Yes it is the Friday that seems like Saturday. Curb your children.

Good Afternoon!
Greetings from the Fichandler Green Room at Arena Stage.
I got all moved in - well, at least I got all the stuff I brought down into my apartment here. And it really is a nice place, and most everything was already provided - linens, dishes, silveware, etc. Very nice. And I have a view of Maine Ave and the Anacostia River from my balcony. :)
So, now I'm trying to decide if I'm going to head down to Richmond for the night, or just back up to New York City - since I have a totally free weekend.
In the meantime...
-
DR elmore - Got your e-mail. Thanks.

I have just two words for you:

Greetings from Issaquah.
George - When you say HHW's own Jessica Skerritt, do you mean she posts here?
No, she never has. MBarnum (I think he was the one that started it all) saw her in a show in Seattle and just raved about her and BK wanted to know about her. Last year, she was in a show here in Olympia (and she was very good), but I didn't get a chance to meet her. Then she went (moved?) to California and met BK and now she's doing your show, which just happened to have had a cast recording put out by BK and so that's why I referred to her as "our very own." ;) Clear as mud? Others can fill in the details. ;D

So if you google her name, quite a few hits are HHW posts!

Okay, maybe not "quite a few," but some. ::)

I actually thought it was a teary show. Sad to see people leave (although i was much more sad last week when it was alison).
I knew travis and heidi were safe after their excellent performances on wed. But my gosh mia (judge) was very rough on heidi and benji.
Since i'm guessing benji is the most popular contestant i knew who was going home. I was a bit less sure between donyelle and natalie.
Next week's show should be good. And i'm excited to get to see everyone get to dance together. It's too bad ivan didn't get to dance with heidi. I think it might have helped his chances.
Of the 4 remaining, i would not mind if heidi, benji or travis won. I do like donyelle. But she hasn't grown in recent weeks. I'm thinking benji is going to win. I'm not sure who i want to win more benji or heidi. I've sort of enjoyed her more lately.
-
Miss Skerritt, while very talented, is a bit of a flake. Rarely returns calls, never answers e-mails, etc. She sent me a recording to listen to and a DVD to watch, and she needed the latter returned to her. I e-mailed her about three months ago to get it back to her, and she never bothered to answer. Oh, well. I was trying to help her and could have gotten her an audition for a big show at Reprise doing a killer number, but alas, I got weary of trying to get responses from her. If anyone sees her, just say I made every attempt to contact her to get this DVD back to her, but that I don't play these sorts of games. Obviously, LA was too much for the girl and she's run home.
-
I shall now be on my way to LACC. After the show, we'll be going to Genghis Cohen so notes will most likely be up later than usual.
-
This is not a Friday that feels like a Saturday...this is a Friday that feels like the MONDAY FROM HELL!
An ugly day this a.m., that bloomed into something positive this afternoon.
I'm used to stupidity in government. What I'm not used to is rational people responsible for a new procedure pretending that the new procedure has been properly established, that people have been trained to use it and that it's fully functional when, in truth, they haven't a clue how it's going to work and haven't developed any materials to help people figure it out.
But...that doesn't stop them from "requiring" you to adhere to the "new" (invisible/non-working) procedure.
The old Catch 22 in action...
-

Oh...the positive thing that blossomed this afternoon.
I asked questions, I expressed frustration (oh! my!).
Suddenly, folks started scrambling.
Suddenly, folks were being tasked to organize training.
Suddnely, I got some personalized training to get me through some of my morning paperwork to "adhere to the new policies" (in a patchwork quilt sort of way -- it wasn't pretty, but we got it done).
Suddenly, I'm guessing my name is mud in some quarters.
But...others in the same boat as I are glad I was here today.
Oh, yes.
-
Would it be cheap? And would it be porn?

Ummm....wouldn't that be redundant?

And I played the "guess who Herman chased around the desk" and found the actor quickly.

The idea has crossed my mind.

Hi all! MAN did I eat tonight. My mother made a pork roast, stuffed tomatoes, fresh sweet corn, salad and topped it all off with peanut butter pie!
I am stuffed, but must now leave the lake and head to Estherville to go to my friend's reunion with him. It should be an interesting evening.
-
Better run....laters
-
The idea has crossed my mind.
Larry! How are you, my friend? I am glad the news is positive about your Dad.
-
THE FULL MONTY was a wonderful show, and Matt Ashford (or any other hunky actor who can sing) would be lucky to be in it. Great storylines for the guys, decent music (I preferred David Yazbeck's score for DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS more, but MONTY was his first effort for Broadway and a winning one), an entertaining show.
Matt has a nice singing voice and I have a few clips of him singing with his wife.
-
Adriana, your mum is a talented seamstress, the costume is beautiful.
Elmore, I send vibes and I am glad your father is doing better...
Cilla, I love chili fries!
-
DR TPunk, Lady Macbeth is a bitch.
Elmore, she sounds like my father's sister in law... I have locked horns already with her and I fear it will get worse on my end.
-
we put an a fantastic production of the Importance of Being Ernest, and I was cast as Cecily Cardew.
I have seen a production of that play and when done well it is a great production. I am glad to hear yours went well.

More thoughts on the results......
Of the 3 guys I thought Ivan was most deserving to go. I agree that Mia's comments seemed harsh and yet I feel like she is usally right on. I think with Benji, her comment about how she didn't realize how lacking in technique he was until she worked with him is a testament to what a talented performer he is. Even though he may not be as technically skilled as Travis, he more than makes up for it in charisma. I think the same could be said for Heidi. I also agree with you and Mia in saying that Donyelle has been stagnant for the past few weeks.

Adriana Patti-wonderful play. We will be seeing this fall at our local Shakespeare Festival. I live in Ashland. Have you been to the festival here? It's a popular place for school field trips.

DakotaCelt-Good vibes dealing with your aunt-in-law. I’m so thankful now it is just my brother & I we get along great. We had a family member who made life very, very difficult-and that is an understatement.

TOTD:
DVD -"The Passenger" Loved this film way back in 1976 and it still fills me with questions. A very satisfying work.
CD: Best of Brook Benton

I forgot to answer yesterday's TOD:
(1) Seeing Tommy Tune do the song and dance number "It's Not Where You Start" in SEESAW, even dancing on point wearing clogs.
(2)The opening "Ragtime" number in RAGTIME.
(3) When I saw the first preview performance of TITANIC on Broadway, there was a song near the end of the show while they are loading the lifeboats. The song is "We'll Meet Tomorrow" and at the preview the song was sung as a solo by Don Stephenson who played 2nd Class Passenger Charles Clarke. When Mr. Stephenson finished singing the song that night, he truly brought down the house. The entire audience was blown away.
By the time the show opened on Broadway three weeks later; the love story between Charles Clarke and his girlfriend had been trimmed considerably, the show already had an overnight sensation in Brian d'Arcy James, and the show-stopping solo had been converted into a full-cast number.
-
It wasn't John Fraser?
No in fact, my guess is it was former heavy weight world champ Terry Downes who played Chunky the butcher wearing an apron and no shirt.
;D

DR TCB - I myself will be 56 in 22 days.....and DRJOSE will be considerably younger the day before.

Awhile ago I mentioned our ground squirrels were multiplying & doing damage. Now that the young ones are old enough to fend on their own we have placed a live trap outside in the hopes of relocating them. After multiple attempts with different treats, in the middle of eating our dinner tonight, we caught one. Seems the secret food was a plum.
One down, four to go. The rest are far enough away from the house they are welcome to stay.

No :). This year her plays are The Winters Tale and Bus Stop. We saw Bus Stop and it was enjoyable, not memorable, just a pleasant evening out with Keith's aunt and uncle.
-
There's only one star in a Helen Lawson show and that's me, baby! 8)
That was kind of what I thought when I picked up the CD and noticed the change. Of course, I doubt that Mr. d'Arcy James had any control over the changes. Also in that original cast was Michael Cerveris, Victoria Clark, and Alet Taylor's husband Andy Taylor.

'night

TCBand55-LOL
I kind of like that. And we could have Janeand39

Finished CAPTAIN JANUARY this evening. As tear-jerking as I remember it being. Nice to have it in the collection now looking so good.
I took a second and watched a scene in the colorized version. As usual, the film looks dead colorized. I don't know how folks can watch these things.
-
Next came SINGIN' IN THE RAIN on laserdisc, and I got to hear and enjoy the late Ron Haver's commentary for the first time in many, many years.
I have to admit there were more gaps than I actually remembered; many commentarians scarsely draw a breath during their audio essays, but Haver does pause several times to let the film play before making certain comments.
Amazing the quality on DVD we're now used to. I'm sure when this Criterion laserdisc was issued, people were very impressed with it, but now, the picture is fairly sharp, but the color is pale next to the Ultra-Resolution DVD, and the soundtrack has some pronounced hiss in certain places. Not so on the DVD.
-
MONK had a funny episode (loved his concern over the expensive business cards, a running gag). Wonder if they're going to keep the idea of his P.I. office or if this was merely a one-shot plot for this episode.
-
PSYCH was hilarious, too, with the ever-adorable James Roday "mind-melding" with a cat. And a pretty clever mystery solved at the last minute, too.
-
Have never seen Monk...
-
MONK is a fun show. The mysteries aren't usually especially difficult to solve. It's much more a character show and with more humor than is usual for a procedural.
-
I'm off to bed now.
Good night!
-
Some Jodie Foster movie is filming in and around our building tonight. The craft services truck is parked down the block and a little noisy. Around back (the Broadway side) they are filming a scene in the courtyard, but they have strewn the place with junk to make it look someone's idea of a slum, I imagine. So if this movie comes out, we will probably not want to point out that it is where we live.
It is called THE BRAVE ONE.
-
Thought I owuld post some goodnights before I went to bed.... Pleasant dreams everyone!!
-
Is this a slow news day here at haineshisway.com?
Great show tonight, and I shall reveal all in the notes, which I'll now write.
-
I've been home for about an hour after seeing a reading of The Last Starfighter in Issaquah. In a word: WONDERFUL!! Fred and Skip said that there have been some changes since the original production...and I would assume, since the Kritzerland release of the cast recording, which is also very good. However, seeing it live with actors/singers who are very good and hearing the whole book just makes it a great, great evening of entertainment. AND I got to meet the writers, Skip Kennon and Fred Landau (our very own FJL!). PennyO was there, also and we chatted and sat next to each other in the second row. AND afterwards they had short talkback session with Fred and Skip, the director, the music director AND the screenwriter to the movie Jonathan Betuel AND the original Alex Rogan from the movie, Lance Guest!! He's doing another show in the weekend and just happened to be there at the same time! It was pretty cool. I got Skip and Fred's autographs on my CD and Jonathan and Lance's autographs on my DVD!! I didn't, however, get a chance to take any pictures, but I will tomorrow. ;D
-
I'd scan the CD and DVD booklets, but my scanner isn't working, at the moment. AARRGGHH!! It's getting late, so I'll try to fiddle with it in the morning and scan them before I leave.
-
Well, at least we made it to Page Seven!! ;)
-
I also brought my copy of Penny's very own book "Jewish Thighs on Broadway (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1403398224/sr=8-1/qid=1154764764/ref=sr_1_1/102-4779504-7364131?ie=UTF8)." I got her autograph on that, too. ;D
