Well, you've read the notes, you've read them to their big finish, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're doing the big finish and then they'll be on their merry way, home-wise.

And the word of the day is: LOGORRHEA!
-
Topic of the Day: I am proud to say that I have never been a participant in any kind of "fad" of clothing. No, really, I haven't...my mom bought most of my clothes growing up and she never went for style, so I wouldn't know if something was a fad or not. And even if I did, most of the stylish clothes weren't made in my size. I've never been a small person. ::)
-
And the word of the day is: LOGORRHEA!
I don't think I want to find out what this means! Sounds like it's some icky disease. :P
;)
-
Okay, I looked...it's not anything like I thought:
Main Entry: log·or·rhea
Pronunciation: "lo-g&-'rE-&, "lä-
Function: noun
Etymology: New Latin
: excessive and often incoherent talkativeness or wordiness
- log·or·rhe·ic /-'rE-ik/ adjective
Sounds like some kind of condition that a couple of my coworkers could have. ;)
-
Well, I have a long drive to Issaquah again today (day three of four...about 160 miles round trip...each day!) and I need to sleep. So, good night, all!
-
And today there are two shows and the discussion with several writers (including our very own FJL and Skip) about writing musicals based on movies. It should be very interesting and informative!
-
Dear BK,
BRAVO ON THE GREAT TURNOUT FOR THE CABARET SERIES!
Those who come tonight to see LINDA PURL are in for a rare treat.
Linda on TV is arresting. She has a delicate presence, both physically and in her approach to acting. You can't take your eyes off her. It's as if she knows the secret to life.
Linda on stage is commanding. There is an underlying strength to her performance. She seems bigger than life. When she came out to the lobby of The Shannon Center in Whittier after her show, I pointed her out to my father who had come with me. He said, "You mean that little thing was the singer on stage?"
Delicacy and Strength -- a rare combination.
And here (because now I can do it) is another photo of Linda.
-
And the word of the day is: LOGORRHEA!
Suzette was constantly on the phone with her friends, talking about who she'd like to have as a boyfriend, OR HER GOAL to become a GAL HERO, OR what she'd like to find at the latest sale at the Cute Shoes Outlet, or whatever, so her telephonic LOGORRHEA ended up keeping her from getting anything done in her real life.
-
I have no sense of style, at least in the terms of the fashionistas.
I've never had my ears pierced, for example, even though everyone else seemed to have it done.
I've never had anything else pierced, either.
I have no tattoos.
Clothing? I pretty much wear the same stuff all the time. I do wash them, of course - I have multiple copies of what I wear.
-
What great reports on the Cabaret Series.
Vibes and xylophones to Ms Linda Purl!
-
Grover Dale - a name to be reckoned with.
-
Off to work....oh well.
-
Good morning, all! I have very little to report this morning. Things certainly look better for my dad, and I would not be surprised if he's released on Monday or Tuesday. Since I return to Manhattan on Tuesday, I'd prefer it to be Monday. Since I know there's no controlling this health problem, I can only hope.
Tonight, I nee to make a few local telephonic calls to speak to the friends in town I will not be seeing this trip. I need to spend my time beyond that getting some work accomplished. I have an invoice due tomorrow.
DR George, I'm so happy you and DR PennyO are representing us for Fred and Skip. If you run into Lance Guest again, ask him where he was when I needed him for the Houston BABES IN TOYLAND!
As for the TOD: I have never had a fashion sense or a body built for haute coouture. I always look as if I'm coming or going from my coal barge.
-
Awww, we can't make brunch tomorrow :'(
We're all booked up with friends from out of town. We're doing touristy things, not sure what, and then in the evening we will be seeing The Fantasticks at the Snapple Theatre Center. I've got my fingers crossed. It's already had two cast changes, one due to injury and one due to "artistic differences". There is an article in Playbill On-Line about how they have tried to make the theatre look like the old Sullivan Street Playhouse
The Fantasticks (http://www.playbill.com/news/article/101262.html)
We shall see. I will report on Monday morning.
I'm at the office right now and will be here every Saturday from now until October 21st. I've got some fruit salad, coffee and a bagel.
I'm also listening to Donald's new radio show. The first tracks are from the Strouse show set in China called
Nightingale (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00000JT5X/104-8081761-0355102?v=glance&n=5174)
On that note I will return to the Kellogg Foundation. No cereal for breakfast this morning.
Later, gaters.
-
Hello, Dear Larry. New York looks forward to your return!
-
Oh, I forgot!
Even though it's past,
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO OUR LOVELY KERRY AND EQUALLY LOVELY FORMER POSTER MUSIC GUY!
-
Good morning!
My, the air outside was much less heavy when I stepped out to get the newspaper this morning. You can definitely tell a BIG difference. It's still going to get to the upper 80s today, but that stifling and oppressive heat seems to be gone at least for the moment.
I still don't plan on being outside today any more than absolutely necessary.
-
So pleased to hear that the cabaret series has gone over so big. I only wish some of us stranded on the East Coast could enjoy it ourselves.
-
I love Grover Dale in his few movie appearances that I have seen (MOLLY BROWN comes immediately to mind.)
-
Well, I'm not sure it qualifies as a fad since at the time it was mostly all that was available to wear, but I did have quite a few pairs of double knit polyester pants. They were very outlandishly patterned (red and blue checks on one pair I remember; another pair was green with yellow pinworm designs on them) and when I see pictures of them, I can't believe that's what men were wearing back them (complete with flaired bottom cuffs, etc.)
But I never had a leisure suit, and like SWW, I've never had anything pierced or my skin decorated with ink.
-
THough I'm not especially in the mood for another Shirley Temple film so soon after yesterday's CAPTAIN JANUARY, I am most anxious to see how JUST AROUND THE CORNER looks.
When it was shown on the Fox Movie Channel, it looked terrible, totally covered with scratches, debris, spotting, and other artifacts. I am interested to see if Fox performed any restoration on this film at all. Looking at how good THE LITTLE PRINCESS and THE BLUE BIRD look on their FMC broadcasts, I'll be angry if JUST AROUND THE CORNER was released with a substandard transfer with other other highly desirable films looking so good.
-
Nothing on network TV interests me tonight. KINGDOM OF HEAVEN is on HBO-HD, but I'm not sure I'm even curious about it.
This may be the night I watch the second half of the 1963 CLEOPATRA.
-
Saturday morning greetings!
Media report (amended) - Yesterday's post brought me a new CD - DR Ben's Holiday Interview with Beverly Humphreys on BBC Radio Wales. Thank you, Ben!
-
I'm glad the disc arrived unharmed. I sent out many discs over the past couple of days. It turned into quite a job. I had about 60 requests for discs.
I found the mailers in Staples so I decided to try them. It makes it obvious that a CD is inside which means I don't have to clutter the outside with warnings about contents and fragility. It also saved a bit on postage.
Most of the New Yorkers will get their discs hand delivered at Fred's get together on August 20th.
-
Vixmom, did you hear about the actors going on strike at American Girl? They are trying to join Actor's Equity and the producers are playing hardball. The administrative staff is going on in place of the actors walking the picket line.
-
Going to read my book for awhile (maybe outside on the porch if it's not too hot).
WBBL.
-
TOD - Becoming a university administrator before age 30 made me think I needed to buy into the whole "dress for success" thing. The basic premise of that was that in order to be taken seriously in the business world, women had to wear suits and ties and button-down shirts. So, I had my wardrobe of skirted suits in navy blue and gray with a variety of blouses with bow ties. Thankfully, after about 5 years of that, I had to wear maternity clothes for a while and never went back to the "executive" look.
Now, I try to look professional, but more relaxed and comfortable. Some of my co-workers come to work looking like they've just cut the grass and then wonder why they don't get any respect.
-
I did have a Nehru jack with a medallion for about 5 minutes, which is about the amount of time Nehru jackets were a fashion fad. I also had a blue leisure suit (not powder blue just dark blue) with yellow piping. I think I wore it once. Thankfully, no pictures from that debacle survive!
-
TOD - I am completely ashamed of ever having been one bit content with my Davy Crockett Coonskin Cap. I look at these little raccoons who come to feed every night, and I do suffer over the murder of millions of them way back in the mid-'50's, so that brats like me could look like our Disney hero... deep shame.

TOD:
Parachute pants ::)

So, anyway, The Last Starfighter got a good reading last night at Issaquah's Village Theater- they had about 20 or 25 hours of rehearsal, apparently, and the music is virtually wall-to-wall - the best the director could do was keep the actors out of the way of the material - which he did nicely. Good voices, for the most part, really showed off Skip Kennon's wonderful songs. Mostly perfect diction, too - and the audience really responded. About 20 in the cast. Some incredibly intricate choral writing really brought the house down.
Towards the end of Act 1, a very catchy tune - It Was a Zandezan - caught most of the peeps in attendance... folks were humming that song and bobbing up and down in the line to the restrooms at intermission. Lovely ballads.
Fred Landau - our own DR FJL - turned a complicated special effects film into an intimate character-driven play. Ultimately, a musical succeeds or fails with story and characters. The audience was really rooting for the small-town reluctant hero and his girl friend. Most wonderful of all is that the house was replete of men and teen-aged boys - an audience that usually doesn't show up for musicals. Since Butts In Seats is the name of the game, this bodes well for the future of this show. Several regional theaters were represented at the reading, looking for shows for future seasons... for example, a representative from The Coronet in LA was there, and several other houses in other big cities... fingers x'd!!!
-
TOD - I am completely ashamed of ever having been one bit content with my Davy Crockett Coonskin Cap.
Jewish Mama with glass-eyed animal head sole (fox for everyday, mink for Holidays) has a daughter in a coon-skin cap - OY!

PS I bet your cap didn't make it into the rented fur cold storage for the summer months.

I'm sorry to have missed this weekend's cabaret shows at LACC - having dreamed I attended the first 2 weekends with much enjoyment. But it is so good to be home, with my animals and my Stuff... my piano and my guitar, my heirloom chatchkes, my own refrigerator.
Oh, I forgot to mention that FJL said our avatars don't do George and me justice! Apparently, George and I are MUCH better looking in person!!!
-
....Several regional theaters were represented at the reading, looking for shows for future seasons... for example, a representative from The Coronet in LA was there, and several other houses in other big cities... fingers x'd!!!
Hmm, wonder if The Human Race company from Dayton, OH, was there?
-
Brucer - yup, we had lots of dead animals as personal decoration around the Orloff house...
-
Gin - I don't think the Dayton playhouse was there...
After the show last night, I drove Fred and Skip to the ARtistic Directors house on Lake Sammamish (as in, pastrami sammamish on rye, hold the mustard...) and shmoozed with the cast and staff, then drove them back to their apartment in Issaquah, thence the hour and twenty home to the cabin. It was so nice to have them to myself for the short ride back and forth, and listen in on their discussion of the changes to this work-in-progress.
On another topic - Elmore, best of vibage in this tense and troubling time.
-
Gin - I don't think the Dayton playhouse was there...
Too bad, it sounds like something right up their alley. Maybe I'll mention it to the board member I know pretty well.

I'm up, I'm up - got a decent night's sleep and I feel better - and will jog soon.

The sun is back with us here in the City of Studio.

It's also a beautiful day in the city of New York, including Manhattan. The heat has dissapated, at least for a while, and a trip to the Greenmarket for lunch was quite enjoyable.

Grover Dale - a name to be reckoned with.
Isn't that the setting for OUR TOWN?

Maternity clothes! Now that is a clothing fad that would work for me.

Well, I have managed to empty out the place. Maybe it was the Kimchi I was eating in derBrucer's picture?
-
I'm still here though I'm in and out
-
I was very sorry that I wasn't able to catch the reading of THE LAST STARFIGHTER last evening, but I am quite sure that the future holds several more opportunities to see it on stage. The real disappointment was not getting to actually meet Skip and Fred and Penny. George and I, of course, go way back (almost three years).
-
Thank goodness, Ben, you are still here!
-
I'm still here, too, DR TCB. Just prepared a soup & grilled cheese lunch for my family and we all sat down at the table to eat together.
-
Soup and grilled cheese!!! Sounds good. Mrs. Palmer, can Ben come over for lunch???
-
Back from a nice long jog. Sun's out but it's not too hot - the way I like it.
-
Soup and grilled cheese!!! Sounds good. Mrs. Palmer, can Ben come over for lunch???
Of course, DR Ben, and bring your friends. Oh, actually, you and Beverly are here, right in my CD player!

I had a terrbile dream last night. I dreamed I was being chased through the woods by Burt Bacharach who kept screaming that he was going to rear-end me.
-
From TCB
I kind of like that. And we could have Janeand39
39- ;D
-
George & Penny, LUCKY YOU! I wish I could have joined you last night!!!! At least I have had the pleasure of meeting FJL & Skip and expect to see them again in October.
And if I could be in two places at once I would have been in LA for the Cabaret series.
Kerry & Music Guy, HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!

I'm back from my Florence Nightingale duties for the remainder of the day: I've got a lot of work to do this afternoon and evening, and this should hopefully finish all the work opn the BABES full score and vocal score I had. There are still two or three numbers outstanding to be finished, a couple of revisions, and the scores will be officially ready for publishing.
The hospital was a full house today: I was there by 9:15, my evil brother and Lady M showed up around 10:45 and left just before noon, my nephew and niece arrived around 12:45, my father's lady friend around 1:15, and - as I left at 2 PM with my nephew and niece - my father's attorney showed up to discuss my father's real estate transactions.
My dad was much more energetic today, and his diction is improving. My niece and I suspect he's had a mild stroke, but there's been no word from the cardiologist about the EKG results. He was quite talkative, and this is new. We had a long discussion about the Macbeths and his unhappiness with them and his wish to come back to Manhattan fro a visit. His oncologist wants him on zoloft to combat his depression, but nothing can be done until the EKG results. As a result, my dad bursts into crying fits at the drop of a hat. Today there were quite a number of them, each whenever he thinks about his future, feels sentimental or hurt.
There's a possibility that a former production assistant from EMI Studios in london will be coming to New York for a visit. She was our production liaison on the Kern and Herbert recordings in 2001-2002. I'm hoping my return to NYC will not be delayed since I want to throw a shindig for her and some of the recording personnel while she's in town.
And that's my afternoon report.
-
DR Elmore - tonight's pizza and a movie night at our house. Wanna come?
-
DH Richard, DS Rob, and I are off to the local mall for a while.
Bye for now.
-
The grandlads (and their parents :-\) will be here in Rehoboth for the night, staying in their camper at camperland, and der B had this wonderful idea: let's take them for dinner. So we headed into town (after I got off work) to check out a restaurant we like, as to what they have on their kid's menu. The upshot was that it wasn't worth risking, because we weren't sure there was anything on the menu their parents would like.
After coming up with a couple of other ideas, der B called his daughter... and found out taking them out for dinner tonight is not a good idea. They're bringing a roster of friends with them.
So much for those dinner plans.
I feel oddly relieved.
-
I'm really enjoying ON EDGE. THough most of the first third of it has been just an autobiography of a fairly unexceptional life, the stories of behind-the-scenes in the skating world have been quite enjoyable. His first encounter with a young Tonya Harding in his hotel room (against his wishes) was quite funny.
-
I did have time between phone calls and preparing and eating lunch to watch JUST AROUND THE CORNER. The quality is aeons ahead of the wretched Fox Movie Channel print. This looked very good, very solid throughout.
-
Tonight, I am going to watch the second half of CLEOPATRA. I haven't seen the second half of the film since I saw it during its original release.
-
Off to read more of my book.
Then it's on to the Nile with Elizabeth and Richard.
WBBL.
-
DR Elmore - tonight's pizza and a movie night at our house. Wanna come?
DR Ginny, thanks, but I've got to get some work accomplished before I head back to Manhattan. Perhaps next visit?

Greetings from Sweet Corn Days. This float cracked me up. I had a great time last night with my friend who came to town for his class reunion. I went to the informal gathering with him then back to my parent's house where we stayed up and talked til after 3:00AM!!! I can't remember the last time I was up that late. This morning we made it downtown for breakfast, the parade and free sweet corn. They went through 7000 ears of corn!!
Anyway, having fun but not at the computer much so I haven't caught up on the posts
-
Page three? This will NOT do, oh, no, this will NOT do. Back from a meeting, and I've just given the rights to a soundtrack CD label to issue the original motion picture soundtrack to The Creature Wasn't Nice aka Spaceship aka Naked Space. The score is by David Spear and the songs, of course, are by my very own self. There may also be a couple of surprises as bonus tracks.
-
Why isn't Krtizerland releasing The Creature Wasn't nice?
-
Good Afternoon!
Well... I made it back to New York City just a little before 3:00am last night. And my friend, Andy, ended up joining me for the ride back up - and to spend the weekend up here with me. -He'll take the train back tomorrow. So...
We spent most of today walking our feet off in Lower Manhattan, and we're going to see The History Boys tonight. And then... ???
So...
I have not had time to check the posts, but as for my proposed Brunch for tomorrow, I'm afraid I'm going to have to postpone. Just not enough hours in the day tomorrow to get done what needs to get done. I'll try and check in with the HHW NYC contingent via e-mail and phone, but in the meantime, I figured that this would be the fastest way to get the word out.
-
In other news..
Did you know that if you present an out of state driver's license at the Visitor's Center at Macy's - Herald Square, you receive a discount voucher for 11% off your purchases for the next five days? -And you can even use it in another state too within that time period. Yes, I know Macy's is a bit "controversial" in some circles lately, but, in any case, it's a cool promotion.
-
I seem to have bad luck re: getting sick. I catch things way too easily. Everytime my sis gets sick i manage to get what she has. But this time I thought I lucked out (i wasn't even thinking about getting sick). She had a sore throat last weekend that turned into something more. Well guess what, last night my throat started hurting. And it still hurts today.
I tried not to touch the baby. And washed my hands a lot. And didn't kiss her. My sis said it was okay if i touched her (as long as i washed). Since if the baby got sick she would think it was because she (my sis) was sick.
But i don't like taking chances. But still there were a couple of times when nobody else could watch her ... and she wandered off (crawled) somewhere she wasn't supposed to be.
-
And Macy's is also displaying the winning designs from each week of "Project Runway" in one of their windows on 34th.
-
OK - Time to get ready to head to the theatre...
Laters...
-
I should go back to lying in bed. Right now my throat isn't too bad. But i just feel quite fatigued.
Joan rivers is on the shopping channel this weekend. And for some reason i get pleasure watching her chat and joke with the hosts (mildly entertaining).
For Big Brother fans (no spoilers), I just came to the computer to read who won the veto competition (results not in yet). I can't wait to see it.
If anyone here reads canoe and wants to post with spoiler warnings (a discussion about what is going on) I would love to join it. It is quite interesting in the Big Brother house right now!
-
DR Jose, I actually think all the NYCers could not make brunch. :(
So i guess it is good you can't either. :)
-
I cannot find much to drink that soothes my throat. So far grape/apple juice is the best (it is actually grape juice combined with apple juice).
Tomorrow i want to go swimming with the baby and others (how much energy could it take to go swimming).
While i lie in bed i may work on my scrapbooking a bit. I can't remember if i mentioned it here but my sister and i have both (in the last few months) taken up scrapbooking. She has a lot more supplies than i do. But i went over yesterday and she let me take 6 pieces of special paper (she bought a kit that had 4X each paper). Of course both our books are about the little megan. But who cares.
Not sure if there is anybody else here who scrapbooks. It actually takes quite a while to do each page. So we've both only done around 7 pages.
Actually interesting story. When my sister's 11 yr old niece was here last week, we got her into scrapbooking too. And i told her about "scraplifting" where you copy ideas from scrapbook books. Anyhow she is so cute and her idea of copying is basically to copy it exactly. THe funniest thing was when she copied some ladies journal entry (where you write text about the picture). She just substituted megan's name for the lady's baby! :)
-
I didn't want to put a film score on Kritzerland just yet (may change in the future). And the label I agreed to is going to do a really nice package and they'll be able to get it out there in a much better way to soundtrack fans.
I shall now be on my way to LACC for Ye Olde Sounde Checke. I may be late again this evening, in which the notes will also be late. Do keep the home fries burning, you dear, dear people out there in the dark - we must have some good reading matter for our mental delectation, you know.

I went out to lunch today in honor of my great nephew's impending return to Pennsylvania to live with his father. The lunch was hosted by my sister and brother-in-law (his grandparents). An interesting afternoon, considering my sister kicked her husband out of the house over a week ago.

Yesterday, one of the innocent case aides in our office said she didn't like Tom Cruise. "He sucks," she said. After a rather long forced silence, we all agreed that, yes, he does.

Well, let's see.......... Jose is at the theater; Matt H. is off with Liz Taylor; Laura, Sandra, Kerry, Music Guy and BK are on their way to the cabaret show. Penny and George are at the Village Theater with FJL and Skip; Ginny is eating pizza and watching movies; and, hopefully, elmoore is getting some much needed rest.

Oh no! I have taken to quoting myself!

Has Ann caught up yet? PLEEZE!

Yup, Ann's here. I'm procrastinating about folding my laundry, and watching Noises Off. I've been fighting off some sort of sickness, and my head isn't quite feeling well. Drugs aren't seeming to help...hmmm.

I will be happy to respond to that previous post, but first let me go stuff towels under the door to keep the neighbor's germs out.

...Ginny is eating pizza and watching movies...
We ate pizza and watched the beginning of Walk the Line, then DH Richard and DS Rob decided they wanted to watch the episode of Numbers that's just starting. So, I'm back until we can resume the movie; it was just beginning to sparkle, with the introduction of the June Carter character.
-
DR Ginny, thanks, but I've got to get some work accomplished before I head back to Manhattan. Perhaps next visit?
That's OK, DR Elmore. Just wanted to give you a graceful way to escape the drama if you felt it necessary. You know you're welcome anytime.
-
Since I was talking about the musical TITANIC last night, I popped the CD in today, and have been listening to it over and over again. It will be the Musical in Concert next March at one of Tacoma's theaters.

Ginny, why is NUMB3RS on televsion on a Saturday night?
-
I went to our local mall for the first time in about 5 months and it's pretty pitiful. A lot of stores have closed and others look like they're about to. Of course, when a town has 2,500 steelworkers locked out from their jobs, the economy is bound to suffer. The draw for me today was the Estee Lauder "gift with purchase" offer at Dillard's.
DR Jose - will the Macy's deal still be in effect the first week in October?

No idea, DR TCB. We just watched an episode last night, too.

I need a long rest. I could have sworn that your post said that 2,500 streetwalkers were locked out of their jobs.

Well, we had one of those plying her trade in the library restroom earlier this week...

Just where did someone find 2500 chastity belts?
-
It's taken me about 9 months. No not that!
I've at last listened to "The Last Starfighter". Its so much better than the very unfunny and tedious joke of a musical "Escape From Forbidden Planet".
Last night's viewing here in the Land Of OZ was the very funny (at least to Us) "The league of Gentlemen's APOCALYPSE"
-
Just where did someone find 2500 chastity belts?
From what I understand, SWW, chastity belts alone would not put them out of business.
-
I'm sure there is a joke waiting there connecting chastity and cher and cher alike. Chastity - not really the sonny side of street walking.
-

Sure, but they'd be living from hand to mouth.
::)
-
And it's time I got dinner on the table.

(Drum hit!) Or making ends meet.
-
And now back to work. I'm on the last BABES score, not to be confused with the last starfighter.

DR Jose - will the Macy's deal still be in effect the first week in October?
I'm not Jose (obviously) but I think that deal is an on-going thing. They don't publicize it but it's a way to lure in out-of-town shoppers. I know there is usually some kind of hotel promotion as well. Ask your hotel or just go to the mezzanine level of Macy's and ask.
BTW, Ginny. Did you take the Bed and Breakfast on 16th Street or will you be staying at the Comfort Inn on 46th Street?

Ben, we decided to stick with the CI-Midtown this time, since it's a known quantity and Cillaliz and Jane will be there, too (last I heard). Richard and I thought we might look into some of those other options while we're in town, for future reference.

We had a very large thunderstorm come through here around 7. It's the most rain we've had in weeks. My yard was looking very brown (I do not waste water watering my lawn), but I suspect with all the rain tonight, I may end up mowing next weekend.
I'm sure there were a lot of grateful people for that rain today. It did cool things off quite a bit.

Spring approaches in the Land down under.

CBS calls it "Crime Time Saturday" where they usually show reruns of two of their procedural crime dramas back to back. They have so many from which to pick that they switch them around. This week, NUMBERS was one of the two selected. (Was CRIMINAL MINDS the other this week?)
-
Hot off the easel. (and not quite completed)
DP's latest effort - it's a village near Naples.

DR TCB is correct: I was with Liz Taylor tonight in CLEOPATRA, at least the last two hours of it. Found it pretty enjoyable, not the snooze-fest my memory told me the Antony-part of the story was. (Always liked the Rex Harrison half much better.)
I was more attuned to Roddy McDowall's performance in the second half this time around. Martin Landau does a good job in the film as well.
-
And that CLEOPATRA DVD might be several years old, but the transfer still shows off those mega-expensive and huge sets and costumes to perfection. There may have been a lot of waste on that production, but everything still looks pretty sumptuous to my eyes. Truly a feast for color TVs.

DR Tomovoz - beautiful daffodils and a lovely painting. Thanks for sharing!
-
Page Five ALICE IN WONDERLAND Dance!!!
-
I decided to make it a Todd-AO evening by next putting in THE SOUND OF MUSIC. I always enjoy revisiting this wonderful film, and this time was no exception. Great entertainment.
-
I finished the evening watching some numbers from some shows I've been in and lucky enough to have been reocrded: BABY, FOREVER PLAID, COMPANY.
-
As for tomorrow, I recorded WHIRLPOOL off the Fox Movie Channel today, and since I've never seen it before, I'll more than likely watch that tomorrow.
And I'll likely finally get to the DVD of THE DETECTIVE tomorrow, too.
-
Thanks DR Ginny. I take pride in partner Colin's Art and garden. I am neither artistic nor have "green fingers".
-
I'm heading for bed now.
Good night!
-
I'm home - - and still buzzing from that last cup of Starbucks in Blythe, CA. We had a lovely weekend and ate more food than I thought possible. It was lovely to meet two of our newest DRs.
Lovely photo and lovely painting, DR Tomovoz.
The good news is that they captured "The Serial Shooter" on Friday, who turned out to be two people.

The worse clothing fads....
Hemm lets see I was a kid in the 70s and 80s:
polyestery pants and shirts..
spandex pants
jelly shoes
jumpers
short shorts
prairie dresses - some were not that bad
astro bright colored sweatshirts.
"Mall Hair" - though mine was tame in comparision to some....
-
Happy Anniversaary Kerry and MusicGuy!
-
MattH, I recorded WHIRLPOOL as well, it sounded like a fun movie...hopefully I will get a chance to watch it someday.
-
Just where did someone find 2500 chastity belts?
For some reason after yours and TCB's remnarks I could not get a scene from Robin hood Men in Tights out of my mind. At the end ef the movie they have to call for a locksmith for the chastity belt....
-
Beautiful picture of the the yellow flowers, Tom. Love the painting, very nece.
-
I forgot this one...
I have SoCal to thaink for this fad....
Valley Girl talk aka Valspeak.... Like fer sure.. like totally .... Like he is a total space cadet....
Other clothing fads: the preppy look... I actually did not mind this one... but I did not care for the punk look....
-
Laura, I am glad to see you had a safe return from the SoCal... From the notes you had a delightful time with bk and fellow hainsies and kimlets.
I am glad to hear they finally caught the serial shooter.

Did any of the gentlemen sport mullets back in the 80s?
-
I am trying to imagine TCB in a mullet
to clarify...
behold the mullet...

here is another example of the mullet
It appears it was quite the rage of gangsters, con men and other rebels to sporth these. Thankfully I was never part of that rage...
-
Of course matt is the preppy one on the right!!
-
Perming ones hair was a fad some fell victim tooo....
I never wore power suits thank god... Some looked like aliens in them...
-
I noted hoop earrings were the rage also...
-
Anyone remember jodhpurs?

Hi, Dakota!!
I just got home from Village Theater...
OzMan!! lovely daffodils - a favorite flower of mine - and the painting of the Vicina a Napoli Village. Thanks for those pix!
As I was saying - just got home... left at intermission. It was a Roy Rogosin adaptation of Field of Dreams. Oy. Really awful songs - terrible lyrics, bad rhymes, melody? what melody? Even Iowa farmers at one point RAPPING - I kid you not. What the hell? And a posse of said farmers also jivin' real bad in some sort of black Gospel number... whassup wit' dat? OY.
At least there was no compelling storyline... the characters wanted spaghetti, they got spaghetti, after a mild argument over Prego or Ragu... not literally, but OY that's the degree of drive the thing had. Has. Had. No events that take one soaring into song. No real conflict or angst or anything. But it was the SONGS - the awful songs that propelled me into my vehicle to hie me home ASAP. Sheesh.
-
Anyone remember izod polo shirts and what the rage they were in the 80s..
Laura Ashley dresses
ripped jeans
Gloria Vanderbilt Jeans
skimmers
-
Good I made it to page 6!
-
hello Penny!!
I hate it when things are so unpleasant you have to leave...
-
Cowl neck sweaters....
-
I am going to bid you all a good night and pleasant dreams

Sadly, very true. I'm now home (I stayed for the second act). I thought that the second act was a little better than the first (not by much, though) and Skip (composer/lyricist of The Last Starfighter) thought that the book of the first act was better (if I remember correctly). Horseracing. :)
-
Anyway, I was able to take a couple of pictures (actually, the director of The Last Starfighter...I forget his name, I left my program in my car) took this picture of me with Skip and Fred:
-
And I took this picture of PennyO (she's the lovely one in the front ;D), Skip (behind Penny) and Fred:

Back from another sold-out show. Must write the notes now.
-
So I was looking at the pictures that I've taken with my phone (who'da thunk that that statement would actually ever make sense?? ;))...anyway, I found this picture that I took at my parents' house. These are some roses growing in their front yard (and my mom's name is Rosemarie :)):
