Well, you've read the notes, the notes were very today, and now it is time for you to post until today's cows come home, which might be yesterday or tomorrow, depending on their MOOd.

In my CD player:  nothing.  I have several things at work, but I haven't listened to anything in the last few days.  Maybe I will today.

In my DVD player:  "Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House" and "The Conversation," both movies recommended by my fellow HHWers.

In my VCR:  tapes of shows that I taped over the last week or so.  I MUST WATCH THESE...and soon!!

Well, on the condo front...I got a call from my realtor yesterday and she said that the seller would like to close today (Friday)!  Today??  The closing date was planned to be Monday (which is also next month), but I called the mortgage company and my mom (she's giving me the down payment ;D).  Todd at the mortgage company said that everything on his end is okay.  My mom, however, said that she can't get the money for the down payment until Monday because it's in a CD (certificate of deposit) and it doesn't mature until October 1 (Sunday).

However, if it's okay with the title company, I might be able to sign all the papers and pay the fees today, but then just give them the down payment on Monday.  I have to call the title company very early today (not this early, though ;)) to see if they can/will even want to do it that way.  I also don't know, even if they will allow me to sign the papers today, if they'll give me the keys to the place today.  We'll see!

And now, I must be off.  I still have to put out the garbage and whatever recycling that I'm going to put out and pay a few bills before I go to bed.

Good night...whoever is still here. :)

DVD player -

I've been running through some of the older DOCTOR WHO stories this week, on the secondary TV set, while der Brucer has been hogging commandeering exploiting using the main set to watch one show while recording a second, none of which I care for.

Specifically, I've watched the stories The Three Doctors (John Pertwee, with guests Patrick Troughton and William Hartnell) and Pyramids of Mars (Tom Baker).  Fun stuff.

A REMINDER TO DER BRUCER -

The Second Season of the revived Doctor Who starts tonight, with David Tennant taking over the role of the Doctor.  Yes, I know that you're planning on recording it, while watching the shows you like on CBS.  But you should know - they're showing two (count 'em, two) stories on Sci-Fi back to back, 150 minutes worth, and the re-run starts at 10:30!  So, you can either record the Doctor starting at eight, or cut into the middle of whatever else you're recording at 10:00, because the Doctor and I shall not be separated!!!

Thanks.   :-*

I have a bag full of CDs to get me through the day.

I also must call an ophthalmologist. I went to the doctor yesterday because on Wednesday evening just before I went to bed I noticed that my left eye had what amounts to a bruise. I called my doctor yesterday morning and was able to get an afternoon appointment. I have what is referred to in the medical trade as a

SUBCONJUNCTIVAL HEMATOMA

basically, what I said before, a bruise on the eye. I have no idea how it happened but my doctor is not worried and said it will slowly go away, like a bruise on any other part of the body. He referred me to an ophthalmologist so I have to call and make an appointment today for some time next week. Just wanted to warn anyone who will see me this weekend. I'm sure the red will still be there. It looks gruesome but there is no pain or any kind of swelling. It just looks like I got hit in the eye.

On that note I will retire to the Annie E. Casey Foundation.

Later.

I forgot to mention this.

I saw on Playbill On-Line this morning that Elizabeth Allen died.

Playbill (http://www.playbill.com/news/article/102414.html)

Even though the show was not particularly successful her biggest success was probably playing the lead in the Rodgers/Sondheim show, Do I Hear a Waltz?.

She had retired and was living in a nursing home in upstate New York.

-Alas, it doesn't look like I'll be able to make back to NYC for one of the readings this weekend, and due to some ailments in the cast and orchestra in the land of Cabaret, I may have to hang out in DC until Sunday.  So, I may not make it up for the Joe Allen get-together either tomorrow night.  Just taking it day by day, hour by hour, and e-mail by e-mail from my stage manager.  ;)

Even though the show was not particularly successful her biggest success was probably playing the lead in the Rodgers/Sondheim show, Do I Hear a Waltz?.

There was a beautiful house across the street from me in Studio City which was kept up perfectly - but nobody seemed to live there. Curious. I was finally told by one of my neighbors who knew everything about the street - that the house was owned by Elizabeth Allen - who hadn't lived there for years, but still held onto it. Each time I went by that empty house, I thought of her...

And Steve's visit to the the dentist went very well too.  And he was very surprised at how painless the whole procedure was.  Of course, the nitrous oxide helped, but he keeps commenting on how he could see the doctor doing what the doctor needed to do, but how he could not feel any of it.  -And still doesn't feel anything.  -But there's a pill of pain-killers close by if needed.  ;)

From a  Summer Movie Blog  (http://journals.aol.com/summermovieblog/summer-movie-releases/entries/2006/09/27/is-hermione-leaving-harry-potter/431) discussing the possibity Emma Wtson will not renew for the last two Potter films:

Will Watson return or depart? Only time will tell. Until then, all we can do is throw around wild conjectures as to who might replace her. My money is on Helen Mirren -- finest British actress in film today. Although she might be a spot too old.

Fall has hit Kentucky.  The weather's cooling, the leaves are beginning to change.  I noticed something here that was absent in LA...BIG FLUFFY MARSHMALLOW CLOUDS.  The kind where you lay back in the grass and image them to be all sorts of shapes.  The only time I ever saw clouds like this in LA was after the rain had washed all the muck out of the sky.

We'll see!

Good luck with everything!

On that note I will retire to the Annie E. Casey Foundation.

And re: UGLY BETTY (new tv show).

I LOVED it.

This is by far my favorite show of the new season.

I love betty. America is so funny and genuine. And she is a fantastic betty.

The story is charming and funny and fun. I really hope that this show is the hit it deserves to be. It was so easy to get involved in this show. It usually takes me a long time to care about any of the characters.

I see DR MattH i also liked it. Not sure if anyone else watched it. But it's really quite good.

Good Afternoon!

-Back from Richmond - The drive back was uneventful, and the weather was perfect.

-Back from IKEA - I actually made it in and out of there in under an hour - and half of that hour was spent having lunch.  I found the small end/tray tables I wanted to get, so I got them - three of them, in fact.  I did dawdle a bit in the kitchen and bathroom sections, but I soon regained control of my senses - and dream budget ;) - and headed right to the cash registers with my three tables in hand.

And now...

What a GHASTLY day this has been!

It started early with uneasy sleep and a pain in my right side that, inexplicably, kept me awake for several hours and then completely disappeared and allowed me an hour or so of great sleep before having to face the day.

As I was about to leave for work, I discovered I had a flat tire.

I changed the flat and drove to a Good Year store and bought four new tires.

Walked to work from there and found every single thing I did turned to poo with one glitch or another (none of which were my fault...personally, that is...).

Went to get my car and discovered "they'd" locked my trunk with the key in the lock in the "open" position...which, in my model car, not only locks the trunk but makes it impossible to open the trunk again with the key.  I shall now have to crawl into the trunk from the back seat and release the trunk internally.

I got back to work and my coworkers proposed taking lunch at the museum.  I wasn't wild about it but then recalled the special of the day was a tasty rice and chicken dish.  Just what I needed.

My order came out, and the waitperson handed me my bowl.  The bowl rim was scalding hot....as if it had been held over the burner of the stove.  I now have a nice blister on the inside of my thumb...the tender meaty part.

Sigh.

One or two decent things also happened....but I dare not mention them unless they turn to poo, too.

After watching Jeffrey Dean Morgan playing the dying Denny Duquette on GREY'S ANATOMY for the last half of the season, I was encouraged to know he'd be back at least on SUPERNATURAL this season (playing the recurring role of the father of Dean and Sam Winchester).

I shouldn't have been so encouraged.

MY NAME IS EARL had another Joy-centered episode. Since Jaime Pressly earned the cast's only Emmy nomination last season, I'm thinking maybe the writer/producer is going to give her a lot more air time this season.

I love the character, but a little of her goes a long way. I hope these two episodes to start the season will be exceptions rather than the rule.

Just saw the ratings from last night:

UGLY BETTY finished second in the time slot to SURVIVOR, but it was very close - 16.5 million to 16.1 million viewers. That's a tremendous start for a new show, one of the best for any new series this season.

GREY'S ANATOMY was down a tick and CSI was up a tick from last week with CSI delivering 23.5 million viewers to GREY's 23.3 million - a virtual tie in total viewers.

This is elmore3003 reporting from Manhattan on the Broadway premiere of Bruce kimmel in THE LAST STARFIGHTER reading:  he was an absolute delight!  In fact, the entire show was quite delightful, with excellent character actors, some attractive young actor, a charming leading (young man), and some excellent musical and comedic moments.  Our BK looked as if he were enjoying himself immensely, and his good humor and way with a melody and a lyric should be the envy of others.

Kudos go as well to our DR FJL for his humorous and touching libretto and to Skip Kennon for some wonderful music and outrageous lyrics. Mr Kennon also plays an excellent piano.  I enjoyed myself immensely.

Back from a lovelier than lovely dinner with hosts FJL and Skip.  It was yummilicious - I had some pasta pesto tihng - not a fan of green, but it was tasty.  Am now having a cuppa tea and then will be on my to see A Chorus Line. I talked too much at dinner and will now have to keep my mouth shut the rest of the evening - I'll get up around eight-thirty tomorrow, which will give me plenty of time to walk, have a cuppa tea, shave, shower and hopefully be in voice for our 11:30 show.  Then we have four hours, which will hopefully be enough time to recuperate, and after that I'll talk as much as I damn well please.

Going through the score for A Christmas Carol the Menkin/Ahrens version and finding the cast recording and tv soundtrack rather useless as rehearsal/learning resources.  The asst MD and I may need to record the score this week.  How exciting is that.  Unless I can find someone with the MTI Rehearse-score.  That's always a possibility.

Off to Vietnam for the weekend.  Man I love playing this show - (that's Miss Saigon) not the aforementioned A Christmas Carol )

As you get older, you don't want to sit through staging rehearsals which is what the recording would be used for.  I still make my casts bring tape recorders and always reccomend a recording for them to listen to to learn the flow of the music and the show.  :)

..And, yes, the licensed version of the Menken/Ahrens A Christmas Carol bears almost no resemblance to the OCR nor the TV version.  The show changed each year it was brought back - mainly depending upon who was the starring as Scrooge at the time.

The opera musical had its US premiere last night right here in Middletown, Ohio's Sorg Opera House.  The company leaves early tomorrow morning to perform the work Sunday morning at 10:30am in the Bandshell in Central Park.  I'd recommend it to anyone who's in New York.

From Matt H-
Quote
What I liked about Craig Bierko on BOSTON LEGAL was that he wasn't a carbon copy of the other lawyers in the firm. Fizzy, flip, and fun: at least I thought he was. Sorry you and Keith didn't enjoy him, DR Jane.

We thought he was like the other lawyers, in a quirky way, just not funny & found him annoying. ;D

We do agree Ugly Betty was charming. :)  Thanks for reminding me to watch her.

George wonderful closing vibes!!

Thanks, Vixmom! ;D

Earlier this afternoon, my real estate agent and I met the guy (Bruce) who did the initial inspection and found the moisture under the vinyl in both bathrooms.  The sellers had that and other things fixed and Bruce came and checked it again (for free!) and found that there was no longer any moisture!  The replaced vinyl in the downstairs bathroom looked good and both the new toilets (that I bought...well, my sister ;)) were installed and looked all spiffy and clean and new!  They sellers also replaced the 20-year-old 50 gallon hot water heater with a brand new 67 gallon hot water heater and a drain pan (which was never there before)!  An upgrade!!  So, it's a go!  I close on Monday morning!!

Later!!

How EXCITING!.  Thank you for the wonderful report, though I expected as much.  I think the music is wonderful.  :D

Have an even better show tomorrow!!

Back from A Chorus Line and will write extensively in the notes.  I'm sure it will be a little different than Mr. Ron Pulliam's reaction, and it will be very different from the Internet postings that B'way sites are rife with - they've all got it terribly wrong - the ones who don't like it and the ones who do.  Being a A Chorus Line junkie, my comments, at the very least, will be informed, as I've seen the original B'way cast and various other casts over the years at least sixty times.

Sweet to offer but I'm fine.  I still have bagels from our last trip to L.A.  Bryan also brought us some from Portland.

I only postponed my trip.  I still have to complete my commitment to the NIH, no later than the first week in April.

I just received an e-mail from the Hallmark Channel plugging the debut of their new movie, FINAL DAYS OF PLANET EARTH starring Daryl Hannah.  On the Hallmark Channel?  Now, I realize that the Hallmark Channel is not the same as the Hallmark Hall of Fame; but a sci-fi movie starring Miss Hannah is the biggest hit that they could produce for October?

George-The new house sounds ready for Monday-great news!

Penny-I think it is wonderful you have returned to school, and enjoying it!

It took forever for me to get through the posts with all my jumping up every few minutes to tend to Sherlock.  Our morning began at 5:00 & it’s been a long day, plus the 2nd in a row we have had company.

‘night.

The seat was brilliant - I had an empty chair to my right.  The obnoxious woman on the aisle (I was three seats in) was on her cell phone the entire time, right up to curtain.  During the announcement, she was looking at her phone - I couldn't believe it, because the opening of A Chorus Line needs DARKNESS - naturally she kept her phone open with it's ugly light shining brightly - I finally leaned over to her and said "Shut that thing off NOW."  She looked at me as if I was a boiled wart, but she did finally shut the phone.  Unfortunately, it was after the opening light cue came up, so basically this selfish bitch helped ruin the opening of the show, as the light from her phone cast enough illumination to show the entire stage right cast members entering.

Had an interesting and somewhat unexpected guest this evening.

I began by watching the next to last GREY'S ANATOMY episode from the boxed set. It got interrupted midway through it by my guest.

Best friend John and I had planned to go to Best Buy tonight. I wanted to pick up that Sci-Fi boxed set with TARANTULA and SHRINKING MAN, among others, and he wanted to buy a new printer. However, by tthe time he got his kids in bed and settled, it was 8:30, and since Best Buy closes at 9, there just wasn't time to go tonight. We may go tomorrow.

Instead, he brought over the new release of TOP GUN, and we watched it with the DTS 6.1-ES sound blasting from all speakers. Quite a rush, but, oh, brother, it's amazing someone got paid to write that hackneyed dialog in the film.

Have to say there are mighty fine male specimens in this movie. Val Kilmer has never been so in shape, and Rick Rossovich was insanely gorgeous.

After John left, I put GREY'S back on and finished the last episode.

Now tomorrow, I'll watch the special features and can then move on to some movies.

Did you play the TOP GUN Drinking Game too?

;)

-You put the nicknames for each of the characters in a hat - Goose, Maverick, etc.  You draw a name.  And each time you hear that name said in the movie...

;D
