Well, you've read the notes, the notes had great dancing, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're doing their own version of A Cowrus Line. Currently doing The Moosic and The Mooror.
-
And the word of the day is: REDIVIVIS!
-
Oh wow, this may be the last time in a long time I get to do it, but I'm the first post after BK! Bodes well for the day.
-
Bruce, should you try to book that king-size room for your Oct. 20-something trip to NYC, or are you basically done for good with that hotel?
-
Luckily, there will be two people helping out with the STARFIGHTER house tomorrow, so I'll be able to actually watch the first act, which I wasn't able to do today.
-
If there were bulls involved instead of cows, would that be A TAURUS LINE?
-
Good Evening! Good Morning!
Ah... The MTC rehearsal space. Yep, that's one big sound hole. Auditions in there are deadly!
-
bk - Well... I believe I'm seeing A Chorus Line next week myself, so... I'll leave my comments - and "suspicions" until then.
-
OOh... bk and[/b] Kevin Spirtas at Joe Allen! Hmm.. Maybe I will head up tomorrow afternoon... Although, with everything I have to get done tomorrow... Hmm... What time would the gathering be at Joe Allen?
-
Well, I'm definitely quite sleepy and tired now, so...
Goodnight.
-
Man was I confused last night when I logged on and so no posts for the whole day. Now I see what is going on.
-
It was great meeting Tomovoz last week, truly a hilarious guy. Much fun was had, seeing Vixmom and the Vixter, plus Ben, Ant, Elmore, WFO, Jose... All people who make this site the best in the biz.
-
Tonight, TPunk and I were at New York City Center for an amazing evening, a program they have called FALL FOR DANCE, which has 10 evenings featuring 5-6 different dance companies each night. Tonight's was just unbelievable. Dutch National Ballet, Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane, Pennsylvania Ballet... all were really remarkable. And totally different from each other.
-
Tomorrow, THE LAST STARFIGHTER and HHW gathering. I had a chance to see A CHORUS LINE tomorrow, but am more interested in the STARFIGHTER!
-
Here's something I did recently. For those who want to hear the sound of TPunk singing and Rodzinski's sad attempt at rap, check out the youtube link below.
The background: a marketing company that a fellow I know works for (called Maloney and Fox) was having a contest to take their jingle and re-do it and shoot a video for it and upload to youtube. So I figured it was worth a shot. I think it is certainly as good as the other entries I saw on there, so we shall see!

And the word of the day is: REDIVIVIS!
Huh?
Methinks the spelling is off, and should instead be REDIVIVUS.
-
Casey would waltz
With a strawberry blonde
And the band, which had been playing in tempi devised by Marvin Hamlisch, found REDIVIVUS inspiration in the dancing.
-
Jose - Darn it, please please please (that's three pleases) decide already about Joe Allen's. We seem to be at a real maximum number of people for our table before counting you, so if you're coming, it will require a different set-up, so please CALL me once you know. (Don't email or put it on HHW, i most likely won't have computer access after 4 pm.)
-
If there were bulls involved instead of cows, would that be A TAURUS LINE?
For the unusual staging at the Clowes Memorial Hall in Indianapolis, IN, it was retitled A Car-us Line. Marvin Hamlisch would not have approved - the tempi used were all speedway.
-
As for the MTC rehearsal space, whatever Bk and the actors were doing yesterday seemed to compensate, as far as the hearing and connection in the audience area was concerned. But Larry has a better sense of such things than me, so maybe he'll comment on that, hopefully after the readings today are over. As far as some "non-theater" people I spoke to who saw it yesterday were concerned, they felt they heard everything clearly and with a certain immediacy that you don't get in many other rooms of comprable rental cost. So there are trade-offs. And that's what I'm talkin' about, given that we have two more readings in that space today :) , and that's what we have to work with.
As far as the temperature in the room, however....
-
Little Orphan Annie's REDIVIVUS dreams of her family may have been only dreams, but they were SURE VIVID!
-
...As far as the temperature in the room, however....
Chilly? Ovenish? Stale? (Wait, that last isn't a temp thing, it's just getting the air conditioning running, or at least opening a window...)
-
Rodzinski - You could definitely see a matinee of CHORUS LINE at 2 and then get to our reading (two blocks away) in plenty of time.
Looking forward to seeing you and TPunk.
-
Boogie Down Rod and T ;)

Oh, the fun of watching Doctor Who!
Der Brucer decided to record his shows, and watch the season opener with me. Since I was getting dinner on the table, I wasn't able to concentrate on some of what was happening during the first part of the show as much as I would have liked, but the show was fun and the food tasty.
Tennant somehow reminded me of Martin Short, only taller. And smarter. And sexier. He'll make a good Doctor.
Adding to the fun was spotting Daniel Evans in the cast, as astroscientist Danny Llewellyn. And yes, everyone here should know who Daniel Evans is. He's the George on the London Cast Recording of Sunday In the Park with George. This ep of DW was filmed in the summer of 2005, just before Evans took on playing George. Too bad the character of Llewellyn was killed, but that happens a lot in DW.
-
Unfortunately, der Brucer botched recording Doctor Who last night. He thought he could record two shows at once, and found out too late that he was wrong.
He has promised that he will record it sometime this week, when it is shown during the daytime.
And we're both p*$$ed at SciFi, for scrunching the end titles in order to show previews of other attractions. We're both end titles fans, and will stay in a movie theater to watch them even as everyone else walks out. (We haven't yet cried out "DOWN IN FRONT!!!" at the walkers between us and the screen, but we've been tempted!) Scrunching the titles is a deplorable habit, and should be stopped.

Well not ALL .... surely. 8)
-
Liked the YOUTUBE viddy, DR RODZINSKI. Didn't check any of the others, but I thought yours was velly crever.
-
Just heard that one person who was going to come to Joe Allen's is now not coming, so Jose - you're free to be as indecisive as you want, unless Bruce invites even more people (But seriously, let me know once you know.) I can see the coverage now: An HHW event so big it had to be spread over two tables. :)
-
Oh my....well what to make of A CHORUS LINE... This was the second show I EVER saw on Broadway...with a few, but not ALL of the original cast. I loved it.... Have seen it a few times since, but haven't ever really had that NYC feeling. I was going to get the ORBC - which I think comes out this week. Not too sure now.
I also LOVE that step! I love all the original choreography in ACL. I am NOT a purist to believe that nothing should EVER be changed, but if it isn't broken, don't fix it.
Oh well....
-
STARFIGHTER vibes on their way!
Of course there is also the version done at the Indianapolis Jewish Center:
A Morris Line. Most of the guys were pretty good, but the guy who played Val wasn't stacked!
-
Today is our Grand Reopening Under New Ownership with fun and food and a BIG headache for me.
Oh well....only ONE day.

Everyone have FUN in NYC! And someone take a camera! ;D

Good morning, all! I have another trek to Toyland this morning, perhaps the post office as well, and then an afternoon here before my trek to Joe Allen's.
DR SWW, I've known who Daniel Evans was since I saw him in the Royal Shakespeare Company's MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM on Broadway and in the title role of CANDIDE and the National Theatre in London. He's also in the BBC adaptation of DANIEL DERONDA. I haven't heard the Sondheim recording yet.
TOD:
"Turkey Lurkey Time" PROMISES PROMISES
"Act One Hornpipe" CAROUSEL
"Come To Me, Bend to Me" Ballet BRIGADOON
"You Can Dance with Any Girl" NO NO NANETTE
"Dance at the Gym" WEST SIDE STORY
"Slap That Bass" CRAZY FOR YOU
I have two DeMille's here, one Bennett, one Saddler, one Robbins and one Strohman. I didn't include pieces I love that I didn't see in a major production, such as "The Small House of Uncle Thomas" or the great Mack Sennett Ballet from HIGH BUTTON SHOES. I'm a big fan of Agnes deMille; I remember seeing in the 1960s, in Cincinnati, a wonderful production of WHERE'S CHARLEY? with a wonderful deMille stagng of "The Red Rose Cotillion"; I could sit through CAROUSEL, OKLAHOMA!, and BRIGADOON forever, if only to see the dances.
-
One of my favorite numbers was HEY LOOK ME OVER from WILDCAT....but after all it was LUCY!!!
-
Don't that take the rag offen the bush - clever and fun!
Once a year day!
Hernando's Hideaway.
Turkey Lurkey Time....
-
Uh - oh I will steal one from DR ELMORE....You Can Dance With Any Girl You Want.....loved it since I heard the cast album from NO NO NANETTE!!!
-
Off to work.
-

Larry, did you ever read Dance to the Piper, deMille's biography written in 1951? We (Ant and me) just read it. A friend recommended it. I thought it was marvelous. An incredible testament to staying the course for what you want. Her descriptions of the opening night of Rodeo made me feel as if I was there in the theatre.
-
I almost completely forgot about the TOD!!!
Lessee...
On film, duet: Fred Astaire, Cyd Charise, "Dancing in the Dark," The Bandwagon.
Film, ensemble dancing: "Marian the Librarian," The Music Man.
Film, ensemble dancing but focusing on main characters: Ann-Margaret, Bobby Rydell, and Jesse Pearson, plus ensemble, "A Lot of Living To Do," Bye Bye Birdie.
On stage, in Los Angeles, Chicago revival, "Roxie," the guys get their specialty bits. One of them placed a bowler had mid-stage, then did a slow-motion somersault with the hat ending up on his head. I laughed out loud, I was so pleased with the move.
-
Off to work.
Ditto.
-
Word has it that the pigeons from The Producers are getting together for their own Broadway show - A Coo-rus Line!
-
Or the auditions for the male love interest in Hello Dolly, called A HORACE LINE
-
I'm up, I'm up. Oy, am I up. Must go get some tea, methinks.
As to redivivis/redivivus - it was LATE>
-
I will remind that these are just MY ramblings on A Chorus Line - dear reader Ron loved it, and others have, too. If I were seeing it for the first time, I'd either like it better than I did, or I wouldn't understand what all the fuss was about - probably the latter.
-

I love this book! I've also read her second volume of memoirs AND PROMENADE HOME and her hard-to-find book about Lizzie Borden and the making of the ballet FALL RIVER LEGEND. She was not only an excellent choreographer but a wonderful writer.
Off to work.

76 Trombones - The Music Man
Turkey Lurky Time - Promises, Promises
Steppin' To The Bad Side - Dreamgirls
Hello, Dolly! - Hello, Dolly!

Raising The Barn - Seven Brides For Seven Brothers
Fit As A Fiddle - Singin' In The Rain
-
Good morning!
Beautiful, glorious, superb - all describe this gorgeous day.
-
Yes, seeing A CHORUS LINE is much about previous experiences with it, and I also think life experiences play a part in it, too. I think the metaphor of the show might mean more to more mature folks and deepen its impact. But that's just my opinion. I was 30 when I first saw it and was blown away.
I've seen the show about a dozen times in NYC and in other venues, and I've done the show twice in four week runs each time: the first run as Greg and the second run as Don. (Darn, I never made the final line in either production!) I always wanted to play Bobby but couldn't get cast in that part and now I've aged far out of it.
-
Favorite dance moments on stage:
"Hot Honey Rag" from CHICAGO
"I Think I Got It" from A CHORUS LINE (but really, the whole show)
"Dance at the Gym" from WEST SIDE STORY
"Waiters' Gallop" from HELLO, DOLLY
"Do the Production Code" from A DAY IN HOLLYWOOD/A NIGHT IN THE UKRAINE
"We'll Take a Glass Together" from GRAND HOTEL
"42nd Street" from FORTY-SECOND STREET
"I Want to Be Happy" from NO, NO NANETTE
"Charlie's Place" from OVER HERE!
-
Favorite film dances:
"Heather on the Hill" from BRIGADOON
"Smoke Gets in Your Eyes" from LOVELY TO LOOK AT
"The Portland Fancy" from SUMMER STOCK
"The Barn Raisin'" from SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS
"Pick Yourself Up" from SWING TIME
-
I didn't get a chance last night to see THE OFFICE from Thursday night or last night's LAW & ORDER. Hopefully, I'll get to both of those today. I also have the special features from GREY'S ANATOMY to work my way through.
I should be able to get to THE DEAD ZONE film tonight as well.
-
I shall now be on my way to do performance one, after which I shall return.
-
Going to get cleaned up for possible outing later.
WBBL.
-
Congrats on your successful opening, and good luck with today's shows, boys!!
TOD - I LOVE Pain in the Mambo from DAMN YANKEES - only have seen the film version - but that's some "only"!! Verdon and Fosse!!!
Also, WSS Ballet in the Gym
Out of My Dreams
most of Gene Kelly's An American in Paris Ballet
Gregory Hines big Finale (and several smaller dances) from TAP
Fred and Ginger: Let's Face the Music and Dance
others I'm not remembering just now...

ARgh, this is why I must get rid of dial-up! LOL!
What I saw of the clip, Rodzinski, was great! Of course with dial-up it keeps pausing every two seconds...but I did recognize that floor!
I e-mailed it to my work computer so that I can watch it as it was meant to be watched!

TOD:
Brazilian Cotillon: BLONDIE GOES LATIN (1941)
I'm Gonna Ring the Bell Tonight: APRIL IN PARIS (1952)

Saturday greetings! This vacation started as a vacation should - I slept until 10am. Had to get out right away to the post office (watch for something from me, DR DakotaCelt!) before they closed at noon.
This evening is the second of the 90th birthday parties for my mother-in-law. Her birthday isn't actually until December, but she wanted the parties early. This one is a catered supper for about 50 people.
If this party had not already been planned, DH Richard and I would have hied ourselves to NYC today, so as to catch the performances of The Last Starfighter today and The Night of the Hunter tomorrow. We're there with you all in spirit and hope the shows go well and the partays sparkle. Looking forward to some pictures!
-
As I reported here a month ago, or so, I saw "A Chorus Line" here in the Bay Area...and it was PHENOMENAL.
But then, my memory is not colored by the original. Although I was surrounded by folks who'd seen the original many times and thought this production splendid.
No "Follies" has ever been spared tongue-lashing, no "Damn Yankees", no "Chicago", no "Pajama Game" -- no "anything" in revival when viewed by those with magical memories of the original.
That is why this production will most likely succeed with those who've never seen the show.
This, however, does point up a problem I have with remakes of classics....it's nearly impossible to sit and objectively watch something one is familiar with without comparing it to the first version one saw. And that really kills any possibility of objectivity, IMO.
-
So true, Ron. It is human nature to want to see something capture the same spirit and magic as when you first saw it. There is also the weight of history and expectation. I've never seen A CHORUS LINE in any form, but I've heard enough that I expect some revelation when/if I see it. But luckily, I don't have anything to judge it against.
-
Grand re-opening soiree vibes to Indy's own JRand!
-
DRs Rodzinski & TPunk - you just provided me my first-ever youtube experience. It was fun!
-
bk - Well... I believe I'm seeing A Chorus Line next week myself, so... I'll leave my comments - and "suspicions" until then.
Tuesday night with DH Richard and me? Wednesday night with DRs Cillaliz and jhvw?
-
I'm at work right now and super looking forward to seeing The Last Starfighter and dining at Joe Allen's!
-
As Rodzinski said, a friend offered us tix for A Chorus Line tonight but we'd rather have dinner. I'm sure we'll have another opportunity to go so it was an easy decision.
-
Good Morning! Good Afternoon!
I woke up with a case of the sniffles, so... :-\ *I think it's just part of my usual morning fog, and since I ended up sleeping in(!) today...
-
TPunk! Is that you? You could probably do a better job describing that Fall For Dance thing we saw last night than I did.
-
DR FJL - So sorry about my indecision - and thinking "out loud". There really is no way I can make it up to NYC today, so no Joe Allen for me tonight. -I shall call you momentarily.
-
Well.. I need to get ready to head in for the matinee - and call DR FJL - so...
Laters...

Back from performance one, which, for my money, was better than yesterday - everyone seemed more relaxed today and with it, and even the occasional flubs were not too bad (including one-and-a-half flubs for my very own self). The original "Otis", Bill Parry, was in the audience today. I left immediately after - I knew if I stayed that I'd keep yapping and I'm just going to rest Ye Olde Voice now for three hours. But, I feel okay, and not nearly as hoarse as last night. The director was very complimentary to me at intermission. Yesterday, he gave me my favorite sort of direction - smile more.
-
Why is everyone sitting there like so much fish? Did I spy Ben at today's show? I didn't see him afterwards, so maybe it was a lookalike.
-
Some of my faves:
Dance At The Gym - West Side Story
76 Trombones - The Music Man
Turkey Lurky Time - Promises, Promises
Steppin' To The Bad Side - Dreamgirls
Hello, Dolly! - Hello, Dolly!
Without You - The Happy Time
You're Never Fully Dressed Without A Smile - Annie
Although I can think of a half dozen songs titled "Without You", the one sung by Mike (sic) Rupert and his classmates in The Happy Time is called "Without Me".
Picky, picky, picky. Whadayawant, I'm a college perfesser!
-
Last night's fall for dance concert rocked. My favorite piece was by the Pennsylvania Ballet Company who performed selections from 11:11 with music by Rufus Wainwright which was beautiful and joyful and dramatic and could have gone on forever.
Second favorite piece was a duet by the Dutch National Ballet entitled Before After which was impassioned and sometimes aggressive. The theme of the number was before and after the end of relationship. It definitely conveyed the theme and was at times quite raw with the male and female pair stripping off their top layers until they were topless at the end. Definitely not gratuitous but very shocking nonetheless.
A close third was excerpts from Last Supper at Uncle Tom's Cabin by the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company. Dancers were of all shapes, sizes and ethnicities. Very stark and electric to watch. Favorite, most moving part for me was the entrance of a totally nude dancer who drew comparisons to a Christlike figure in his dancing at one time lying on the floor in a crucifiction pose and then being "whipped" by another dancer, the chorus providing the sound effect by clapping.
The entire evening was great, I also enjoyed the traditional Korean dancing by the Yi-Jo Lim Sun Dance Company- very colorful with flags and fans, and the Trisha Brown Dance Company Set and Reset- amazing modern dance.
The festival is mostly sold out but I saw folks selling tickets outside the theater so I may try to go back again.
-
Has anyone heard from DR Tomovoz? Weren't he and Colin due in the Seattle area this weekend?
-
Well I just stopped oin for quick hello... I must get the Vixter and myself ready to trek into the city for the evening's festivities! YAY!!!!!!!

Have fun, fun, fun, DR Vixmom! Will YOU take some pictures?
I have been takingh picutres... what I have been remiss in is downlaoding said pictures and posting them... I will try and do better in this field!!
I am looking forward to seeing you on Thursday!!!
-
I sort of wish these performances had been not so far apart today. I'll go out in a little while and take a little walk, then get my final cuppa tea for this trip (I cannot tell you how much I loathe tea), then relax until around four-ten, at which point I'll mosey on back for performance two.
And then I pack, and then it's Joe Allen for a wonderful partay.
-
...I am looking forward to seeing you on Thursday!!!
Likewise :D !
-
The Joe Allen partay sounds like great fun. But no Greek dancing...
Last night DD - who is here on business (a hard concept for me to get around - my baby is here on business!)- and I went to a Greek restaurant for dinner. The same place I went to a few weeks ago and ate what to Bruce sounded like diseased food. When I was there the first time, it was quite early - before the theater. Last night we arrived rather late -- and it was a totally different place. The joint was swinging! A Greek trio - joined by the elderly owner or manager who played everything from tambourine to clarinet (and well) was playing traditional Greek music - and "Never on Sunday" of course. The waiters - some of them young and gorgeous; others bald and not exactly kids - were dancing. One waitress was doing a mean belly dance. Diners of all ages were joining in. They came to our table and tried to get DD up, but she wouldn't go. Someone had to represent us -- so I went up, hand on the shoulders of the stranger next to me and OPA! What fun! I felt like Zorba the Hungarian! (Or Melina the Magyar!)
-
This is too frightening to even contemplate.
Oh, and for Francois - :-)
-
Two hours to go - guess I'll go get my cuppa tea now.
-
Watching a very interesting Discovery Channel show about what futurists are envisioning for Japan - a city in the sky. Very cool-looking, I must say.
-
Has anyone heard from DR Tomovoz? Weren't he and Colin due in the Seattle area this weekend?
I believer "this weekend" is actually "next weekend". They trained up to Niagara this past Monday morning... Then on to Toronto for a few days... And then they are training westward across Canada... A day or two in Vancouver, I believe... And then down to the Pacific Northwest.
Hopefully, along the way they'll find an internet cafe - or at least a free computer - and say HI. :)
-
Adding to the fun was spotting Daniel Evans in the cast, as astroscientist Danny Llewellyn.
I'm confused? Why should everyone here know Daniel Evans? Hopefully not just because of the London Cast Recording of SUNDAY IN THE PARK... I have never heard it and I doubt I ever will. Has he done other things I should know about?
-
And now I'm off to pick up my dry cleaning, fetch some luggage from my parents' house, see my niece for a bit, and then dinner with a friend... and possibly the opera tonight... We'll see..
Continued Broken Legs to the The Last Starfighter crew!
Laters...
-
Tuesday night with DH Richard and me? Wednesday night with DRs Cillaliz and jhvw?
Right now, my plan is to watch it from the house one night, and sit in the pit the other. Still working out details.
-
Did I spy Ben at today's show? I didn't see him afterwards, so maybe it was a lookalike.
I guess I have a doppleganger. I wasn't at the show nor will I be at the 5:30 show. I'm at the office right now. I've been here since 6am and will be here until 5pm (11 hours of overtime pay at time and a half for over time, that comes to ... hmmm sounds like a musical to me).
I won't be able to see Starfighter. I'm disappointed but I will be at Joe Allen's this evening. If I fall asleep over my Caesar salad someone please take the anchovies out of my mouth ;)
-
Has anyone heard from DR Tomovoz? Weren't he and Colin due in the Seattle area this weekend?
Next weekend. THE OZ COUPLE hit Seattle on October 6.
-
You have a twin, dear reader Ben - I could have sworn it was you.
-
So sorry I won't be at Starfighter nor at the dinner this evening. :( But I hope the emergency room at the nearest hospital will be working overtime on all the boken legs.
Joe is flying back from St. Croix today. He extended his stay for three days, he liked it so much! His flight gets in at JFK at 18:55, and I'll be there with bells on. :D
We have already made reservations to stay at the same place during my break in January, which is of course the high season for the Carribean. The poeple are awfully friendly, even if he stayed on the economically depressed side of the island rather than the rich tourist side.
And guess what has been going through my head all day? "Love Is Like Water", that's what.
Now where did I put those darn bells?

SPOILER ALERT WAS NEEDED!! ;)
I started watching my tape of it after the shows I watched "live" but started to fall asleep before the season premiere episode finished. And I did recognize Daniel Evans from the pictures in the Sunday CD. Hopefully, I'll be able to finish that episode and the next tonight.
-
This morning I went for a walk, and this is what I saw way up in the sky:
-
and these:
-
Got my cuppa tea and do believe there were raindrops fallin' on my head on the way back to Ye Olde Hotel. Nothing heavy, barely noticible. I do have an umbrella so I'm safe if it's raining when I leave.
-
Well, just who in tarnation WILL be there tonight? Mr. Kevin Spirtas will, if all goes according to plan.

congrats on your show and good luck on future performances Bruce!
I got sent to my grandmothers once again so no internet for me yesterday! But I am back and ready to do math howmeork...sigh
I loved your review of A Chorus Line Bruce, it's just like being there hearing you rant in person! I wish I had been able to see the original cast, there is nothing like a great cast and a show that just flies.
TY to everyone who helped me with movie titles I have a whole list now!
I saw The gardian with my grandma yesterday and boy did Ashton Kutcher grow up!!! I thought the movie was fantasmic.
Have fun at your get togeather wish I could be there!!

I sometimes watch the end credits, also. But, if you had a region-code free DVD player, you could get the entire second series (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000GB5OWW/ref=ord_cart_shr/202-3920273-7437409?%5Fencoding=UTF8&m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE) on November 20th...of course, it would cost almost $100 American. ::)
SPOILER ALERT!! :
The entire show has already been shown in England. So, if you don't want any possible clew as to what might happen at the end of the second series, DON'T read the Amazon.co.uk review/synopsis. You might not like it. :-\

Favorite, most moving part for me was the entrance of a totally nude dancer who drew comparisons to a Christlike figure in his dancing at one time lying on the floor in a crucifiction pose and then being "whipped" by another dancer, the chorus providing the sound effect by clapping.
Are you sure you weren't at Sweeney Todd? ::)

Re Ron's loving ACL - that's what makes horse racing and no one's opinion is more important - and I like that there are differing opinions. I have the feeling that those who have no history with the show will enjoy it more than those who do. But, I want to be clear - I have seen many, many productions aside from B'way - and these productions have sometimes had fantastic performances in them that did not merely ape the originals. I've seen a ton of great Maggies (the current girl is also good - just not AS good as some I've seen) - I've seen some great Dianas, some very touching Cassie's (although no one has danced it like Donna, and it's obvious it was created specifically for her body), some wonderful Gregory Gardners (none as good as the original), and some fine Zachs. This current cast is fine, but not inspired, at least that's the way I see it. I encourage everyone to check it out and see for themselves.

Restaurant Serves Chocolate Pizza
By Belinda Goldsmith
Reuters
NEW YORK (Sept. 29) - Slices of chocolate pizza. Syringes that squirt liquid chocolate into your mouth. Warm double chocolate fondue.
Israeli restauranteur Max Brenner's new chocolate bar off New York's Union Square, Chocolate By The Bald Man, caters for chocoholics of all ages -- and is pretty much a disaster for anyone trying to watch their weight.
Brenner has opened 19 restaurants worldwide in the past six years -- in Australia, Israel, Singapore and the Philippines -- but this is his first in the United States with plans to open a second in New York's East Village later this month.
Sitting in his restaurant that has the feel of a European cafe but with zany wallpaper and pipes across the ceiling giving it the look of a chocolate factory, Brenner explains that he set out to create a chocolate culture.
"I believe chocolate for people is not just about taste. It's about memories, about fantasies, about fun," the bald-headed Brenner told Reuters as he melted, mixed and poured a variety of chocolate concoctions.
"People want the whole chocolate experience. A ritual. So I created a ceremony around chocolate with special cups and utensils."
Hot chocolate is served at his restaurants in oval-shaped cups tapered at one end called "hug mugs" that are cradled in hands. Coffee comes in "kangaroo cups" with a pouch or shelf for chocolate. Ice cream popsicles come with bowls of melted chocolate, chocolate waffle balls and caramelized pecan bits.

I just checked Amazon.co.uk again and the $100 second series is a "Limited Edition 'Cyberman Head' Box Set with Lenticular Postcard" that's exclusive to Amazon.co.uk. THIS (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Doctor-Who-Complete-Box-Set/dp/B000FFL702/sr=1-5/qid=1159645062/ref=sr_1_5/202-3920273-7437409?ie=UTF8&s=dvd) is the link for the regular box set that's about $80 American. I'll wait until it's released here. It'll probably be about $15 less than the UK release. The first series was released in the US, so this one should be too. :)

Who Season Two DVD Due
The complete second season of the BBC's new Doctor Who series will be released on DVD in the United States on Jan. 16, 2007, BBC Worldwide Americas executives told SCI FI Wire. "We're over the moon with Doctor Who," said Megan Branigan, vice president of BBC video marketing, in an interview. "We're really pleased with the results this year. We're very excited to continue the momentum with [season] two as we did with [season] one." (The second season of Doctor Who will air in the United States on SCI FI Channel, starting Sept. 29.)
The six-disc set will feature a lenticular cover depicting David Tennant, who takes over the role of the Doctor from Christopher Eccleston, and Billie Piper as his traveling companion, Rose Tyler. Bonus features will include video diaries from Tennant and Piper, as well as episodes of the behind-the-scenes series Doctor Who Confidential, which ran concurrently with the show when it aired in the United Kingdom. The date of the release, and future releases, was timed to fall on the Tuesday following the airing of the second series finale, "Doomsday," on SCI FI Channel, Branigan said.
The content on the U.S. release will be identical to the version available in the U.K., which is due in November. "It's done that way on purpose, because it really is a global program," Branigan said. "We've agreed with the BBC that our fans in the U.K. would notice tremendously if the content was different, and we did actually do that with some of the classic Whos. And we got some feedback that people were upset because they had already bought the U.K. edition, and then all of a sudden ours got put out, and we had added value. So we decided as a global company to do [just one version]."

Oh my, oh my I have so many things to do before I leave! And I have to leave the house about 5:45 AM on Wednesday to catch my plane in Omaha. I thought about going the night before, but it's the first show in my Broadway series, I CAN'T STOP LOVING YOU, so I'll just get up early and head out.
-
Sometime this weekend I need to clean house, do laundry and figure out if I have everything for the trip. And sometime I need to put in about 5-6 hours at the office. So, I think I'll do something I almost never do, I'll work at the office at night. (I usually bring stuff home) It's just too beautiful to be down there now and the stuff I have to do is all intranet and things I can't reach remotely. SO...to the office I shall go. I still have 5 hearings to do on Mon and Tues. So I definitely won't feel I'm on vacation until I get to NYC!
-
Glad to hear STARFIGHTER is going well. Have fun at Joe Allen tonight

Topic of the Day:
Be a Clown - Singin' In The Rain
I'm sure you meant "Make 'Em Laugh." Of course, the song is a very close relative of "Be a Clown" (from THE PIRATE which is a great number, too).
-
What a full, busy afternoon I've had. My friend John and I did make it to Best Buy today, and I picked up the Sci-Fi set that has THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING MAN, TARANTULA, THE MONOLITH MONSTERS, and other Universal films in it. I know what I'll be watching tomorrow.
He was looking for a new printer, and I was busy scouting through the HDTVs for friend Jeff who has finally decided to take the HDTV plunge.
With so many makes, models, styles, etc. of HDTVs out there, I feel sorry for anyone who's interested in getting one who hasn't done a lot of reading or who doesn't have a friend who knows the differences between all these choices.
-
When I got home, I watched the special features on the GREY'S ANATOMY set. Some interesting behind-the-scenes looks at the show. There was a featurette on how they did the "Pink Mist" explosion episode. There was a tour of the set. There were about fifteen unaired scenes cut from various episodes that were interesting to watch.
My favorite feature was the cast answering questions about their characters or their work on the show. Only a few supporting characters were on the disc: T.R. Knight, Kate Walsh, James Pickins, Chandra Wilson, Justin Chambers. But the answers were entertaining and did give some insight into their work ethic.
-
Next I put in the final disc in THE WILD WILD WEST set. I'm two episodes from the end of the set, and this is the last one from the first season to star Michael Dunn as the evil Dr. Loveless. Very entertaining story of West being affected by a liquid that causes hallucinations.

I've heard you do a mean belly-dance! :o
(No, it's not one of those BK's indiscretions! :D)
-
Hopefully, along the way they'll find an internet cafe - or at least a free computer - and say HI. :)
Better still: "hi, mates!".
-
So sorry I won't be at Starfighter nor at the dinner this evening.
"Boken legs"?!? -- Sorry WFO, I'm NOT a "professer"! ;)

Well, The Last Starfighter has had its final staged reading and it went well - for my money, the best of the three shows was today's first performance, but tonight's was a close second. My voice was not quite as strong as this morning but I got through it okay with only one little phlegmball in the first number.

Don't you mean "A Tsoris Line"?
Not to mention the new dictionay musical A THESAURUS LINE!

And now I can talk as much as I damn well please! I'm back at the hotel briefly (and I ate a donut - sue me - it was my treat to myself) - I've already packed up most of my stuff and shall now be on my way to Joe Allen where we shall have lots of food and merriment and mirth and laughter and legs. At tonight's performance we had vixmon and the delightfully delightful vixter, and Antonia and Rodzinski. Also there was former dear reader Noel and occasional dear reader and Mrs. Noel, Joy.

Zoe Wanmaker was in one of the eppies also...
Great show. I have mixed opinions on Tennant. I prefered Eccleston.

We got home from my mother-in-law's second 90th birthday party just as the second quarter was starting in the Michigan/Minnesota game. The party was just what she wanted and my sisters-in-law and nieces and I are glad it's over.
I imaging the partay at Joe Allen is still going strong. Congratulations to BK, DR FJL, Skip and the entire Starfighter company on their run.
Half-time's about over - gotta get back in the game, Coach!

I think it is certainly as good as the other entries I saw on there, so we shall see!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aOC41PFnj_Q
That was fun, and interesting. :)

Yes, DR RODZINSKI thanks! We had a splendiferous Grand Reopening, staying open and extra 30 minutes to handle the crowd, and I made over $300 in commissions today....so I guess it was worth going to work!
-
I can well imagine the hilarity at Mr Joe Allen's right now - hopefully cameras are present, and we with our noses pressed to the glass can see images of what we are missing.
-
I am mortified, horrified, and ossified that I did not mention as TOD:
Fred & Ginger - Pick Yourself Up....a number that brings tears of joy.
And I will say that I imagine DR's who choose the "barn raising" scene are including the Challlenge Dance that precedes said carpentry.... If I had to choose between the two, I would take the challenge dance!

I've told everyone you will be in LA on Dec. 8! The partay at Joe Allen's was great fun. It was a huge turnout and a lot of dish, dishcussion, and Diet Coke. Kevin Spirtas joined us, and a lovely gentleman he is. Skip was feeling his lyrics, which I referred to as "outrageous" last night, were praised more than his music, so I will go on record as saying both music and lyrics were totally outrageous. And tuneful. And a lot of fun.
-
Tonight is Mercer/Mancini night on Lawrence Welk. Just thought I'd share that.
What is it with these PBS people programming Lawrence Welk? Is it a confusion of kitsch and art? And they wonder why I won't contribute.
-
Back from our soiree and a grand one it was. What a treat to see dear readers Ben, Antonia (looking beautiful, as always), Rodzinski, vixmom and the vixter, FJL and Skip, elmore, Mr. Kevin Spirtas, and Georga Osborne from the Starfighter cast (we bonded). We ate wonderful food (I had something new - a pasta with sausage dish that was quite yummilicious, we had desserts, and we laughed and laughed and just when we thought we could laugh no more, we laughed again.
I'm very pleased that FJL and Skip asked me to be part of it, and their graciousness was large and therefore the entire experience was a lovely one. Plus, I really liked the cast and bonded with several of them. Some I would work with anytime - like Joe Kolinski, who is just a solid pro, and Maureen Silliman, who is warm and wonderful, with a sweet voice. And Georga is a hoot. The director, David Bennett, was also very nice and said the right things, which is a plus for a director. I enjoyed my role and think I was able to bring a little something different to the table, both vocally and acting-wise.
-
I had a great time at Joe Allen's tonight. I sat between Antonia (TPunk) and Kevin Spirtas. We had great conversation and company. I'm beat and will soon retire but I did get to see the wonderful physical copy of (Bruce's baby) "How to Write a Dirty Book" It looks wonderfully period. That woman on the cover has the biggest bazooms I've ever seen. Of course, in my lifetime I have seen very few bazooms, being what I am, after all.
On that note I shall retire to the warmth of the blue comforter and Mr. Morelli.
Good night all!
-
FInished the remainderof THE WILD WILD WEST episode I had started with Michael Dunn.
Interesting that the actor who played the deaf mute in the episode was actually Robert Conrad's real-life father. Certainly could see a resemblance.
-
Thanks to BK and DRs Elmore and Ben for the reports on tonight's festivities.
With a final score of Michigan 28, Minnesota 14, the Brown Jug returns to Ann Arbor where it belongs.
'night!
-
Glad the performances of STARFIGHTER were so successful. Hope it can move on to the next level - a Broadway mounting! FIngers crossed for that!
-
Next I put on THE DEAD ZONE. This is not the recent issue of the film on DVD but the first issue. The transfers had a few speckles of dirt but in the main was solid, colorful, very well done. (I believe BK mentioned a week or two ago that the new version most likely used the same transfer. No reason not to really. It was very good.)
I saw this film at the movies when it first came out, and I'm not sure I had ever seen it again in the meantime. I had forgotten SO much. Didn't even remember that Martin Sheen was in it much less one of the most important characters. Wow!
-
With about thirty minutes left in my evening, I put in THERE'S NO BUSINESS LIKE SHOW BUSINESS.
Even though this transfer is now several years old, it is spectacular with really sharp focus and dazzling color. All of the costumes in the "Alexander's Ragtime Band" marathon number are just eye-popping.
-
My line-up for tomorrow:

-
Well, it's been a very long day so I'm off to bed.

Good Evening!
Glad to hear that the The Last Starfighter readings went well, and that the gathering at Joe Allen was mirth filled. I really wish I could have made it back up there today for both events. Thanks to bk and all the DRs for their on-the-spot reports.

Hmmm... Watching the season premiere of "Saturday Night Live"... Dane Cook has nice arms. :P
-
In other news...
After running some errands, I met my friend, Andy, and we headed out for dinner and a movie. For dinner, we ended up at Gordon-Biersch. Since Gordon-Biersch is famous for their Garlic Fries, we had their Garlic Fries for an appetizer.. YUM! And the Jagerschnitzel was surprisingly tasty. -Yes, it's Oktoberfest time.
Then we went to the movies. "Flyboys". A good movie, not a great movie. And about 20-30 minutes too long. It's a movie "inspired" by the real story of Americans heading over to France to join the French air force during WWI before the US had entered the war. Lots of French countryside. Lots of flying sequences... Alas, since most of the flying sequences were battle scenes, most of it was done with CGI... So... And there was a lot of CGI... A lot. Which, if you can't tell by now, sort of turned me off. Some of the computer graphics were good, and there weren't any really obvious computer-generated, but still... I'm not expecting filmmakers to go ahead and recreate sopwiths, zeppelins, etc., and blow them up... However... Andy liked the movie. So...
;)
