I think a futuristic city should incorporate technology that uses solar panels and hydogen. Alternative fuels would be a good thing. Recycling is a must and perhaps the trash could be used as a fuel source.

We actually have the movie script with all the fades and swipes and visual descriptions written as such. The parts where Packer (the cannibal) goes quickly back and forth between the jail where he's telling his story and the showing of the story will be changed. They've added a narrator for the voice-overs and if some of the scenes are very short, they cut them and use narrated descriptions to help keep the action moving.

Yeah - and at the DC production they did a drawing and the audience winner got to take home a bunch of fresh meat donated by a local butcher!

Glad you made it home safe and sound, and you recorded your sound safely.
That's funny that you watched "A Slight Case of Murder". I worked on this---did the whole campaign for it---the TV spots and trailer, etc. Did they include the trailer on the DVD?
Steve Schachter is the director, and he and Macy have done several other TNT films together. My favorite is "Door to Door", (I also did the campaign for that) and "The Wool Hat" (a remake of the Jackie Gleason movie, "Gigot".) That's awful that it wasn't transferred right, really, there's no excuse for that!
I love Paul Mazursky, Adam Arkin, and Felicity Huffman's little cameo (she also has one in DTD). I hope they included the trailer because I used Mazursky as a thread throughout, I found him so funny. And James Cromwell made a great bad guy---funny yet menacing!
Schachter and Macy have worked a lot with David Mamet. (They are sometimes referred to as the Mamet Mafia!)Together, they did a TNT film called "The Water Engine", which was very good. (This was about 15 years ago.)
The breaking the 4th wall bit bugged me at first, too but I got over it. Although I think Macy is attractive, I had a hard time accepting that women were throwing themselves at him.
Check out "Door to Door" for a better Macy/Schachter collaboration; it's a true story and a beautiful film. He won an Emmy for that (also won for the Wool Cap).

He did card tricks to entertain us whenever the closers ran off to xerox something. This guy was a dream to deal with, but knowing he was a champion poker player made us wonder if he used any of his bluffing abilities when we were negotiating the price!

Good Morning all! I just wanted to pop in and wish all who are traveling to and from the York City of New safe and happy travels!
Wow! Has it really been a year? I think I shall be taking out all of the photos I took and received from last year and relive some memories since I won't be creating any new ones.
I shall also have a cup of tea (with the tea I bought on our last eating tour) each day this week. It really lasted a long time and I only bought a fourth of a pound of the Rose and the the Jasmine tea.

My boss is coming back to work today or so it's been told. I bet it's going to be a loooonge day for her.
This is also the day the new director takes over our department. We have a meeting with him this afternoon. I guess we have to hear his plan for how he plans to run things. Huh. Not looking forward to it at all.

Good morning, all! I am not yet awake, but I am moving. I had this bizarre dream that I went shopping for a cap, and I ended up at a strange but huge clothing store in a brownstone in the West 40s. Then, I stopped at Steve Sondheim's house. The front door was open, so I went in and sat at the piano in the parlor (my dream looked nothing like the Casa Sondheim!), looked over a couple of CDs sitting there, and left. As I got halfway down the block, I realized I'd left my cap, but I didn't go back. Somewhere in the middle of this, I had to arrange "Sur le pont d'Avignon" for the New York City Gay Men's Chorus, and I kept getting requests to rewrite it.
This morning, I have a jaunt to Toyland, and then dinner tonight at Artie's with DR Ginny and Richard. We haven't picked a time yet, but I'm going to suggest 6:30. If any DRs want to join us, let me know by phone or email. The Toyland phone line is currently dead so I cannot get office calls, and Artie's won't seat a crowd until we all show up.

Welcome Home! NY still sounds enviable-- mainly in the lovely friends you got to see (and didn't get to see, as the case may be).
From Friday's TOD, in the DVD player was "28 Days" with Sandra Bullock and the 2nd or 2rd Season of "Monk." I think "Deceipt" is still in there too.
In the CD player, I was listening to one of my many infamous compilation CD's which included "Wells Fargo Wagon" (from the Soundtrack) and the lovely BK song from "Bus and Truck" sung by our own Mr. Guy Haine, "I'm Here." Mr. Haines ought to consider this song for a future CD or let one of the other BK stable of stars record it. It really is lovely.
Today's TOD: In the book, "The City That Never Was" which details proposed projects from the teens through the 30's, there are some marvelously stylish and advanced (and veryworkable) buildings that never came to be and that someone should reconsider as many would ber practical for today and the enar future.

Since der Brucer and I live in a town now, and not a city, our perspective is quite different.
The downtown area of Rehoboth would be much better if it was a pedestrian only area - I'd say the main drag (Rehoboth Blvd.) and the streets on each side, from the beach on up to the convention center (yes, we have one!). There would be a clean, well lit parking garage, no charge or a minimal fee (everyone in town is disgusted with the parking meters we have now - and no one ever has enough quarters), and a tram or two would make frequent runs around the pedestrian area so that people wouldn't have to walk if they don't want to.
There would be pedestrian bridges crossing the highway, as well, so that people could cross without getting run over by the cars as they whiz by the outlet malls and other stores that are there.
Other than that, life here is beautiful!

City of the future: One with less people in it.
Seriously, no cars allowed. One where you should be able to walk to everything within thirty minutes.

I don't know from City Planning - but sychronized stoplights and separate pedestrian/traffic areas would be great - for pedestrians AND drivers.

TAR had some fun tasks last night, and the elimination was difficult. Not my FAVORITE team, but I certainly liked them better than some that are left.

NO cars, Charles? That's a bit optomistic, and not exactly practical.
I'm thinking of two problems - first, transportation of goods. Cars (more exactly, trucks) will still be needed to deliver goods to stores, restaurants, and such. Yes, they can be a total pain in the posterior - I've been to NYC, and Philly, and DC, I've seen what these monsters can do to traffic when they're parked in front making their deliveries - but consider, if the traffic were restricted to just those trucks, it would be a lot easier getting around them. It's the personal cars that are the real problem.
Problem #2 - what about the elderly, the infirm, those who cannot "walk anyplace in thirty minutes" because it takes them thirty minutes to travel what most of us take in just five? That's part of why I included the tram service in my Rehoboth plan. I see a lot of the elderly when I'm at work, many (not all) of them wonderfully nice people, but they aren't very mobile and they are very happy when I pack their bags to their specifications, to make it easier for them to carry their purchases. We should try to make life easier for them at all times - they should be able to enjoy their lives as much as possible.

The weather is so nice lately that I have hardly seen Joshie (my cat). He has been very busy with projects outside. I get a sighting of him now and again, so I know he's ok.

We're going to be having the same glorious weather through mid-week: cool mornings and highs at 80 during the day. Can't be much better than that.

I forgot to mention last night the two network shows I watched from last week.
First up was THE OFFICE and sad to say the folks at Dunder-Mifflin had a very off night last Thursday. There were some sweet things in the show (Toby trying to ask Pam for a date, Michael's realization that no one was interested in his party until Jim showed up). But really nothing that I could say was laugh-out loud/funny.
The leads were at a convention which usually makes for a poorer episode when they are actually away from the office getting into trouble there. Of course, I guess they have to take breaks from there occasionally just to break the monotony, but I really prefer that they stay there.

Also watched last Friday's LAW & ORDER. Again, not a great case, but I was glad that the teen girl's tears didn't deter McCoy from going after her. And his new ADA helped him see through the girl's deception, so I appreciated her a lot more than in her debut last week.

Lots of TV to catch up with today, so I doubt I'll get to THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING MAN, the next in the sci-fi boxed set that I'll be watching.

S. Woody, You have efficient, free public transport. Like airports. Trams that intersect every part of the city. You need a car outside the city, you take a tram to the public parking areas where all cars are kept outside the city limits.

TOD: In my perfect city:
Preservation of historic resources would be a high priority.
No condos or townhomes would be built until there was 60% buy-in.
Cities that see density as a quick fix would not be able to implement these projects until they have a viable transit option.
Parking lots would be scaled down and placed behind strip malls.
Developers will not receive tax dollars through the form of TADS or other incentives to encourage them to build their projects, especially if it's not in a blighted area. If it's a good enough idea with reasonable expecations, it will sell.
The city will have mixed income housing with a component for the elderly. It will encourage walking and alternative transportation---bike paths, etc. It will not continue to widen roads as a solution to traffic problems.
It will have HOV lanes for hybrids and alternatively-fuled vehicles.
It will have a large arts component and encourage creativity.
Churches will still be tax-exempt, but any addition business they get involved in that creates income (private schools, health clubs, etc.) must pay taxes. Churches will also have very limited parking footprints, like parking decks. Otherwise they will keep destroying surrounding neighborhoods to expand their empires with huge parking lots that are only used a few hours a week. That's OK for the suburbs, but not in a town.
The city will be encouraged to embrace a mixture of cultures and ethnicites, not just immigrant workers whom they exploit by day and wish they would disappear by night.
In short, everything my town is not!

Because I work for the Jewish Board, I get the Jewish holidays off. So this morning instead of rushing to work, I slept in and did 2 loads of laundry. Later this afternoon I'm going to run some errands then meet Rodzinski and his co-workers for their monthly bowling outing in Queens.

Last night we had an early dinner at John's Pizzeria. Yum! Then we went to see Little Miss Sunshine- my second viewing and Rodzinski's first. I have been begging him for months to see it and he finally caved in. After the movie he asked why I had kept it a secret for so long, since it was such a good movie.

Then as we were exciting the movie we saw that Jackass 2 was about to start in another theater so we decided to make it a double feature. Pretty funny with only a few parts that I had to hide my face from. I can't take any of the gorey stuff they do.

It's Yom Kippur, and we break the fast tonight at my sister's Rikki's son's place, here in the Marina. I have last-minute registration/fees/filing stuff to do down at CSU-LA... and then, I'm officially a fulltime student!
TOD- Andres Duany is an architect who has marvelous plans for cities: green, mixed-use, live-work, mixed-class... he has actually designed and built these marvels all around the world. I had the privilege of attending a 9-day design session in Maui last year, when his group was brought in to look at a local piece (hundreds of acres), dotted with archeological artifacts and ancient holy sites, with a major stream running from the mountain top to the sea.
Duany absolutely despises the houses over here/work areas way yonder/giant mall over there design that has uglified so much of America, and created the necessity of several long drives EACH DAY for millions of people. He bases his designs on the Village concept, where ALL services are located within a quarter mile of the Center, including housing. In a large population, it means that there are several "Centers" within a five-minute walk -- this includes the Tram Stop to take people "yonder'.
Buildings IN the center of town are for the most part 3 storeys, with retail on the bottom and living on the 2nd and 3rd. The public part of every street is walkable, with alleys behind, where the garages are. Google his name - his work comes up in lots of interesting ways.

I agree with Pogue about no cars. It's a lovely dream on just about every level. I also understand the concern about the elderly - there should be some sort of public transportation (say some sort of shuttle service) that could be provided for anyone who needed it). One of the projects I saw on the Discovery show was literally a city in the sky for Japan. Designed so that you would never have to leave if you didn't want to. It was interesting - not my cuppa, but interesting in that there would be no transportation problems. I'd love to see more of what they're working on or developing, because something's gotta give.

I got a solid eight hours - I was hoping it would be more, but I suspect that when I'm sitting on my couch like so much fish later that I'll probably doze off. Former dear reader Hisaka is now living and going to school here in Studio City for the next three months - so I may sup with her tonight if I get over my weariness. The Japanese school she's attending was an all-girl's high school formerly - my darling daughter went there.
Oh, and those at Joe Allen who saw my book were the first to see who it was dedicated to.

MBarnum, The Lovely Wife and I were out and about in Lexington yesterday and I commented to her, how happy I was to be in an area where they actually have parking spaces with plenty of space. After being in LA for so long, I had forgotten that in other places we don't have to squeeze cars in like sardine cans.

Ingredients:
6 eggs, hardcooked, cooled and peeled
6 oz. whipped cream cheese
12 green olives stuffed with pimientos
red food coloring or ketchup
Preparation:
Half eggs widthwise. Remove yolks and fill the hole with cream cheese, smoothing surface as much as possible. Press an olive into each cream cheese eyeball, pimiento up, for an eerie green iris and red pupil. Dip a toothpick into ketchup and draw broken blood vessels in the cream cheese.

I know, right? I didn't work on that one so I didn't see it, but it got good reviews. It looked kind of sappy to me...I think I would much prefer Jackie Gleason in the role. I looked it up on imdb and was surprised to see that Jackie Gleason wrote the original story. Wow...he was multi-talented, like Mr. BK.

After being in LA for so long, I had forgotten that in other places we don't have to squeeze cars in like sardine cans.
LA parking spaces are luxurious compared to Europe!
Have you ever seen the Mentos commercial where the people lift the girl's car to fit it into a parking space? That's the way they park on the street there. If you have a foot on either end, you're lucky! (Which makes for tiny, fuel efficient cars---go Europe!)

Wow, PennyO! I envy you that even more than your going back to school! Duany (yes, you spelled it correctly) is one of my heroes, and his book "Suburban Nation" should be required reading for anyone who works with a city. Even if you don't, it's fascinating reading and you will never look at your surroundings the same way again after reading it. There are some developments in Atlanta that are adopting his principles, but not enough. I heard him speak at UGA and we got to talk to him at length afterwards about our struggles with our city. (After 5 years of intensive (losing) battles to preserve our national register district, we are now going to "cut and run" and move from our 105 year old house (which now has a 5 story brick condo 10 feet from our property line) to a 100 year old house in Atlanta in the middle of a flood plain. I never thought I'd look at a flood plain as an amenity...until now!
Alex Marshall's "How Cities Work" is another superb book on the subject. I think it's very important to get involved with developments that affect you. You can't rely on politicians or developers to look after your quality of life!

Well, not really, but I often think of it. Unfortunately our small committed group of local activists hasn't had much luck standing up to the good old boys of politics and their developer buddies, no matter how organized and united we are. The city takes a very paternalistic attitude toward its residents. "We know what's best...you just don't like change...." etc.

However...it is the parking meter quarters (and parking tickets for violations) and parking passes collected mainly from tourists that is the town's main source of income! (And avoiding the meters is not so easy, all the surrounding streets are restricted to cars displaying special parking passes - which can be purchased annually at city hall, or daily at roadside stands set up on the roads entering town.

S. Woody, You have efficient, free public transport. Like airports. Trams that intersect every part of the city. You need a car outside the city, you take a tram to the public parking areas where all cars are kept outside the city limits.
There is an alternative that caters to the desire for individual transport, but still maintains urban decency. Restrict the city streets to electric powered 1/2 seater vehicles (think golf carts). As in your model, the urban core would be surrounded with Park and Ride lots, but there would be the option to do an on-site rental of a cart. The streets would be open from 2-8 AM for delivery vehicles (electric powered, if you wish).

Cities that see density as a quick fix would not be able to implement these projects until they have a viable transit option.
In an effort to control rampant development of agricultural land, the State of Delaware enacted legislation that designated certain areas of the state for development, others to remain agricultural. In pursuit of this goal, the state planners will not approve any high density residential (over 2/acre) in restricted areas and will not support any infrastructure expansion in these areas .
Well, the state can threaten, but the county governs! If farmer Jones has a developer ready to put up 1300 homes on his farm, the county will approve same, whether or not the state plans on putting roads in place to support the added traffic. Just recently, the County Council, heeding public outcry, denied a 1,000+ home project. The developer took the County to court and won! The court said the County could not deny any developers request that was not against the law - planning documents be damned! The same court system held that a Zoning and Planning commission could not take into account neighbors' concerns about traffic or noise when considering permits.
Note: the County is under the political control of red-neck farmers who believe they have a god given right to sell their family farms to any money grubbing developer they wish. (The irony is that the fat-cat farmers are Democrats, the managed growth/pro conservative groups are the Republicans) (And, on a personal note, the Republican controlled state Assembly regularly passes a basic gay-rights bill and the Democrat controlled Senate always bottles it up in committee and will not release it for a vote.)

More relaxed greetings from Times Square. DH Richard and I have settled into our room - he's next door at church and I'm using the wireless in our room (surprise DRs Danise and Cillaliz!). We asked for a room on the front of the hotel, facing 46th St., because I remembered how much bigger Danise's was when several of us were here last year. We're very pleased.
Our room wasn't ready when we first arrived, so we checked our luggage and went to Cafe Europa for a light lunch, the Times Square Visitor's Center for MetroCards, the Marquis for Drowsy Chaperone tickets, Theatre Row for Prime of Miss Jean Brodie tickets, the Hershey Store, and the newsstand. Our room was ready when we returned from those errands. When DH Richard gets back from church, we'll head on up to the Upper West Side, browse at Barnes & Noble and whatever other shops appeal to us, and see who else shows up at Artie's at 6:30. They will be open on the holiday, won't they?

I've been finishing up my laundry, and now I can relax for a couple of hours. Speaking of dirty laundry, I see that Dr Phil has now got a "Dr Phil House," as tacky as the "Starting Over" house. I don't understand this urge to air so much dirty laundry in public. I guess even the halt, the lame and the maimed want their 15 minutes of moronic celebrity.
I think I'll check in on my Dad, since I was feeling so under the weather yesterday that I didn't call. Lady Macbeth has been up to something, and I'm the current object of her whatever.

Buildings IN the center of town are for the most part 3 storeys, with retail on the bottom and living on the 2nd and 3rd. The public part of every street is walkable, with alleys behind, where the garages are.
For most of the time we lived in Long Beach CA, such mixed use development was not permitted! (Too much like Europe of the cities of our East I guess). The result was long strips of commercial development that were busy during the day and empty at night. (Well, not empty - lots of prostitution, drug dealing and commercial business break-ins.) It took the more enlightened urban planners to ultimately convince the city that mixed use development that had a nighttime and well as day time component, and shop owners living over their establishments, were the things that would diminish blight and reduce urban crime.

Where I live, Cobb County, is hard-core Republican...home of Newt, Bob Barr, Phil Gingrey--big supporter of anti-gay legislation. This is the county that passed an anti-gay resolution that was started because a Baptist Church got all up in arms about "Lips Together, Teeth Apart" having "gay content". Not a surprise that they didn't even SE the production. They enlisted two county commisioners and a powerful lawyer to get this through.
The result was that arts funding was cut out of the budget for several years. (We also had a big battle about evolution stickers on textbooks...)
Because of this, the Olympic torch didn't make its way through our county, events that were scheduled here were cancelled, and it was a black eye on our community for years. (The city of Marietta, where I live, has a totally different demographic than the county.) Fortunately, these Republican commisioners were voted out in the next election and the resolution was rescinded.
And for those of you who don't like Joanne Woodward: once she heard about funding cut for this theatre, she donated a very large sum to them to help keep them going. Hopefully that will raise her stock here!

Thanks so much for all the travel vibes this morning. I really needed them, because we flew on a commuter-size jet - something I'd been avoiding and was pretty nervous about. Our USAirways e-tix said something about Chautauqua Airlines and Richard's been teasing me about flying Chiquita Airlines. It was fine, not much smaller than some so-called full-size planes I've been on. What I really liked was the fact that there were only 2 seats per row, so I had a window and he had an aisle.

BK...how very cool! I love the theremin! Did you see the documentary, "Theremin, an Electronic Odyssey"? That is one of my all-time favorite docs. Is this one of the Big Briar kits that Bob Moog sells?
When "Theremin" showed at a film festival here, Bob Moog was a special guest and brought one of his and let us all play it. I would love to have one but I think it would drive my cats up the wall. :-(

Once Hal Roach sold the rights to OUR GANG to MGM, the series quickly went downhill.
However, there was one episode in which Darryl Hickman guest starred as a sweet kid with impeccable manners who was trying to help the gang find out who the mysterious leader of the Gas House Gang was. Of course, it was eventually revealed that Hickman was the evil leader and his charade as the sweet neighborhood kid was a masquerade.
That episode of MGM's OUR GANG - entitled "Going to Press" - was the only one of those MGM shorts that was worth anything, and he was adorable in his "dual" role.

I caught up on last night's TV this afternoon.
I began with COLD CASE, a pretty interesting story of a female National Guardsman injured in Iraq and then went missing once she got back home. The murderer, however, was fairly obvious.

Next was WITHOUT A TRACE which had a sad story of a missing mother who was earning extra money for the family as a stripper.
The story itself was good, but here's another procedural that is being weighed down with the personal involvments between FBI members. Their stories took up 1/3 of the running time last night (two different pairs of intra-office relationships).

Saving the best for last was Showtime's DEXTER, a really offbeat and out there drama. Michael C. Hall is nothing like his persona on SIX FEET UNDER, and seeing him in this complete turn about from that show took a little bit of time to get used to. He's utterly diabolical, and yet you're pulling for him. Very unusual scenario. Recommended if you have a taste for something really unique.

I've been talking with a film fan at the Home Theater Forum who made a dub of the German R2 version of JOHNNY GUITAR. He claims it is far and away superior to the version Encores has been showing for the past year (which I dubbed to DVD-R since it didn't look like an official R1 release was going to arrive any time soon).
I want to take the DVD-R out tonight and watch selected scenes to compare how they look to the screen caps he posted on the net today. They did look wonderful, but I seem to think my DVD looks very good, too.

You can’t go wrong with everyone’s favorite cheese dip! By using a premade bread bowl found at most grocery stores, you can add something special to this dish.
Ingredients:
1 lb. Velveeta Cheese
1 can Rotel Tomatoes
1/4 C. milk (optional)
Preparation:
Cube cheese and place into either a medium size pan or a crock pot. Heat on low. Add milk and Rotel Tomatoes. Heat until all in warm. Take a bread round and cut out a hole deep enough to place in cheese dip. Pour in cheese dip and serve.
I'd probably go with some other cheese choice, but the easy presentation is a plus!

The 3 bottom teams now (the 2 black women, the kentucky hicksters and the gay couple) are so bad i wonder why they are even on the show. They are entertaining (well the kentucky woman is hilarious). But they are not competitive and have little chance to do well (i'd bet $1000 bucks the kentucky team won't win).
My favorite teams now are the male model/drug addicts and the miss americas. And the asian brothers. They are the most competitve right now (and the girl with the leg is still doing decently).
Hopefully next week will be better for me.

TORONTO (CP) - The studio in the city's east end bustles with all things "Mr. Meaty" related, including a call for the types of bodily excretions that make the CBC puppet show such a hit with young viewers.
"Snot, who's got snot?" a production assistant calls out as efforts are made to make the "Mr. Meaty" set, a fast-food franchise of the same name, look even grosser than usual for a scene meant to reveal the slovenly work habits of the eatery's chronically flatulent employees, Parker and Josh.
Puppet-makers are busy at work, puppet clothes are being pressed, lunch is cooking up in the studio kitchen, and the creators and co-writers of "Mr. Meaty," Jamie Shannon and Jason Hopley, have donned their puppets and sit perched under fake slabs of meat as they wait for filming to begin.
It's the meat - not the farts or the snot - that has so angered vegetarians in both the U.S. in Canada, despite the fact that just one episode of "Mr. Meaty" could easily prompt a wave of vegetarianism. But with lyrics in the theme song like "all God's creatures, fresh off the grill!" and "Mr. Meaty" menu items that include Tongue 'n' Cheek, Chunky Gravy Slurp, Filet 'o Seal and Hot Dog Water, vegetarians aren't laughing.
Online petitions have urged CBC and Nickelodeon to drop "Mr. Meaty." As the blogger behind the "Destroy Mr. Meaty" site says: "It's really horrible and I can't stand how discriminatory that is against vegetarians and vegans. It's just so sick."
Shannon has some advice for those vegetarians: "Take some irony supplements!"

My favorite teams now are the male model/drug addicts and the miss americas. And the asian brothers. They are the most competitve right now (and the girl with the leg is still doing decently).
Hopefully next week will be better for me.
I liked the team that was eliminated. I didn't expect them to win, but would have liked to watch them for another couple weeks. I am so sick of Sara (girl with leg) she is so whiny. I just want to tell her to shut up already. I'm sorry she has a metal thingy for a leg, but her personality is driving me nuts.
I really started liking the brothers this week and was glad they finished first. They were the only team who stopped at the Hanoi Hilton and paused for a moment for the men who had been there. I was also touched at how the coal miner was so moved by being where his father had fought in the Vietnam War.

Well, I think I'll start packing tonight. It shouldn't take me too long. The cats will not be pleased, but I'm just not going to have a lot of time tomorrow night if I want to sleep. I didn't realize I CAN'T STOP LOVING YOU starts at 7:30 pm, so I should still be able to see the show and be ready to go. That is if I get my work done.....

I'm back from a dinner at Artie's (where are you, DR PennyO?) with DRs Jose, Ginny, and DH Richard. It was a lovely time and Jose's appearance was a wonderful surprise. After the meal we wandered to Cafe Edgar on 84th Street for a spectacular dessert. Edgar's has been mentioned in NEW YORK magazine as one of the best dessert places in the City, and it was no disappointment this evening. DR Ginny had the taramisu, Richard had a rich chocolate cake of some sort, Jose had some brownie cheesecake, and I had a slice of fantastic Black Forest cake, which was a belated slice of birthday cake. I am now sitting here like so much fish.

We just took Sherlock for an after dinner walk around the yard. He has become very adept at untying my shoelaces. Off to play with the little guy-‘night.

Now wait just a darned minute - dear reader Jose made it tonight, but not SATURDAY? I think he does not care for me, that is what I think.
Back from a nice dinner with Hisaka. She's studying away and has lots of homework every day. We went to CPK - I had the roasted garlic chicken pizza, which was not so hot, and she had fusilli with sun dried tomatoes, broccoli and regular tomatoes. I had a taste and I must say I'm having it next time I'm there. It's so simple and light and much less caloric than pizza.

DerBrucer, I could go with your traffic design...golf carts, electric delivery trucks for limited hours. I guess my point is too many people depend on their cars for unnecessary things like that trip a half-block to the market.
I enjoyed Bob Osborne's round table with the former child stars on TCM and I liked Daryl Hickman's Leave To Heaven story about the horrible director.

DH Richard and I also enjoyed our dinner and dessert with DRs Elmore and Jose - a lovely way to cap our first day here in NYC.
Tomorrow we're off to The Cloisters, Choral Evensong at St. Thomas, and A Chorus Line in the evening.

I think I had a crush on Duke...something about a hairy guy with a Bronx accent...anyway, he and his daughter were my favorite team and I was sorry to see them leave...a bit misty eyed to, I guess.
I think all of the teams are competitive...this is only the second episode, so it might take time for some of them to get into the groove.
What I am most enjoying about this season is that the majority of the teams are so likeable! That makes it fun for me...that said, I could do without that one bickering couple and the team with the one legged girl...I am like you Cillaliz, she is annoying as all get out...and he is not much better.

I began the evening with JOHNNY GUITAR recorded onto a DVD-R from ENcore. I'm sure the R2 DVD is sharper. This print really seesawed with focus throughout. Perhaps Miss Crawford had them use filters for her close-ups. Whatever, it didn't seem as sharp as the screen captures on HTF.
The color, however, seems to be the same. All the primary colors were vibrant. So, I can certainly make do with this version until the rights holder sees fit to release it in Region 1.

THE CLASS had a hilarious episode tonight with a range of stories , many of which made me laugh. I hate to keep harping on her, but the Andrea Anders storyline just doesn't go anywhere. Three weeks in a row now, and it's been an anchor to weigh down the much spritelier performances of the rest of the cast. The running joke with the hurricane reporting was hysterical.

Those of you in places with trees -- I would love to see autumn leaf photos. We don't have trees with autumn leaves in the desert.
We have an immense ginkgo tree that is stunning when it turns yellow. It will be a few weeks before it happens but I will post a pix when it does. Fall is very beautiful here in the mountains of North Georgia!

I really liked HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER tonight, too. Barney was funny rather than irritating, and the other stories were certainly involving and funny.

HEROES had another frenzied episode with many, many stories broken up into tiny bits. We're still trying to piece together how these stories connect (or if they do), but I certainly did enjoy the hour. I just love those two brothers.

I should probably start recording STUDIO 60 so I can turn back and catch some of that rapid-paced dialog that flies by while watching in real time. Great lines and the cast is doing a great job with their roles. I especially like Steven Weber, and Bradley Whitford had some good opportunities tonight, too.

As DR elmore mentioned, I did make it to Artie's to sup with him and DR Ginny and her DH Richard. It was great seeing all of them again. And Artie's was busy-busy-busy for a Monday - then we realized it was filled with people breaking their fast after observing Yom Kippur.
And, yes, Edgar's Cafe was a perfect place to cap the evening off. My Brownie Cheesecake was more like a Brownie-Fudge-Cheesecake. Truly decadent and delicious.

So...
My train ride up from DC was uneventful and on-time. However, due to some unexplained incidents the A/C/E trains were all messed up this afternoon. As soon as I got in, I headed back down to Chelsea to get my hair cut. -And I have to say, I got a real good hair cut today. However, since the A/C/E trains were still messed up, it took me about an hour to get back uptown to my apartment - it normally takes me 17 minutes. -Which thus made me a little late to meet the gang at Artie's.
And thus completes my transit adventures for the day. Exciting, huh? ;)

That, more than anything else, was why I wanted the condo that I got (or any condo in that complex). It's less than a mile from where I work and I plan to walk to work whenever I can. :)

George, that's great. It's the one problem I have living out in the quasi-country. The nearest amenities are about five miles away, so walking there is tuff. But once I drive someplace, I like to park in one location and then walk everywhere. It's what I love about London...any place I'd want to go is only five to, at the most, thirty minutes away from the front door...shops, restaurants, bookstores, theatres, movie houses, parks, etc.

The one time I went to London, we walked everywhere! We (my sister, my niece and I) went on a couple of walking tours that were a couple of hours each, then we'd walk around even more. I loved it!

It's what I love about London...any place I'd want to go is only five to, at the most, thirty minutes away from the front door...shops, restaurants, bookstores, theatres, movie houses, parks, etc.
Well...an afternoon at the British Museum, a show at the National Theatre, and a late supper in Earl's Court will put some mileage on the shoe leather! (Or do you consider the Tube fair game?)
