Well, you've read the notes, the notes were electrifying, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they'll be attending the Oscar bash, but only as lurkers.
-
And the word of the day is: FLUMMERY!
-
Will we never get to page two?
-
I tell you, the air is filled with electricity. That's good, otherwise we wouldn't be able to watch Ye Olde Oscars.
-
How can it be 12:30 already?
-
NOw that you have described it, I remember seeing THE SLENDER THREAD when I was going through a Sidney Poitier obsession a few years back. I had forgotten the title to the film, but I do remember liking...though not as much as some of his other films.
-
I'm exercising my fingers - for I'll be doing plenty of typing during the Oscarcast and it's very hard to keep up unless your fingers are nimble.
-
Shall we get a good head start on posts?
-
Well, I have watched and transferred to DVD so many WB detective shows tonight and I am now very sleepy...I must say Ruta Lee (who shows up in these old WB shows a LOT) is a swell actress!!
-
I've got another ten minutes in me before I have to toddle off to the bedroom environment.
-
I see Ruta's husband Web every now and then at our local Von's.
-
Well, I suppose I shall toddle off to the bedroom environment.
-
I'm here, but no one else is...oh, well. Last night, I went to see "Music & Lyrics" and "Amazing Grace." I thought the M&L was very cute...slight, but cute. AG was quite good. Ioan Gruffudd (pronounced YO-an GRIFF-ith, according to IMDb.com) is always nice to look at, even when he aged in the film. ;) I had no idea what the film was about. I thought that it was about the writing of the song "Amazing Grace," but it's not. It's about the end of slavery in England. "The idealist William Wilberforce [played by Ioan] maneuvers his way through Parliament in 18th century England, endeavoring to end slavery in the empire."

If I were to ever change my name, it would be to Haddasah.......I just love the sound of it. I also loved the idea of actually having a First Lady in the white house named Haddasah Lieberman
I remember in the 1980s, there was a presidential candidate named John Anderson...I'm pretty sure that was his name. Anyway, I very distinctly remember that his wife's name was Kiki. Yes, Kiki. I just couldn't imagine a first lady named Kiki. ;)
-

Don't get DR Sandra started on names.

The yardwork I did yesterday afternoon is haunting me this morning.
-
Laura, did you see the picture of the baby goats I posted yesterday? I was wishing you were there with your photography skills and nice camera!
-
NOw that you have described it, I remember seeing THE SLENDER THREAD when I was going through a Sidney Poitier obsession a few years back.
I work with his daughter Beverly occasionally. She's a tv producer and is really nice. She goes by her married name, so it was a few jobs before I found out who her father was.
-
Don't get DR Sandra started on names.
I went to Jr. high with a girl name Scooter Honeycutt. How's that for a first lady name? Can you imagine anyone in politics named "Scooter"?
Well, I guess maybe I can...

My junior high school Latin teacher was Kiki Demetrion, and I adored her. I suspect Kiki was a Greek diminutive, but I could be wrong. The stage name that drives me crazy is French actress Miou-Miou, although I thought S.Z. "Cuddles" Sakall was a peculiar stage name as well.
Good morning, all! I plan to spend another personal day away from family and friends. I don't think I'll be watching the Oscars since I saw only one of the nominated movies, THE QUEEN, and I have work to do. I'll stop by for an occasional peek at the posts.

RE: friday's GHOST WHISPERER which i know a few people here watch.
*
*
*
SPOILERS.
While i loved last week's show, this week's show did not make sense to me. I still liked a lot of it. But there was just a part of it that i did not get.
I think when you're doing a show like this, you have to be careful. I know watching it I have to accept certain things. But just because i am willing to accept that melinda can see dead people and communicate with the dead doesn't mean that i will accept anything.
I just really did not get how everybody could see that (those) dead guy(s). That really did not make sense to me. And it hindered my enjoyment. I'm wondering if others felt the same way.
-
Btw, i'm trying to enter the oscar pool but it is forever stalling on "submit nickname". So i haven't even seen if i can find the haineshisway group.
-
And the word of the day is: FLUMMERY!
Compliments from a RUMMY ELF are naught but FLUMMERY.
-
I went to Jr. high with a girl name Scooter Honeycutt. How's that for a first lady name? Can you imagine anyone in politics named "Scooter"?
Well, I guess maybe I can...
"Scooter" sounds like a great name for a Congressional page.
-
Okay i finally got my nickname go through on oscars.com.
I was already registered (from voting for Dancing with the stars). But for some reason my nickname would not go through. Finally i just clicked on the rules (wondering if it was not letting me through because of where i lived). And when i clicked on this my nickname appeared as good.
Weird!
So now i'm making my choices.
-
And off I go, to earn our daily bread.
And newspaper.
And butter. I forgot butter when we went to the store last night.
And I think we're out of OxyClean.
And we're going to need a veg and a starch for tonight's dinner.
-
Edisaurus, yes, I did see the goats and the chicken. DR Sandra and I were exclaiming over them. Very cute, and very nice photos.
-
Good morning!
It's a gray day here, and it's been dripping rain all morning. I don't mind rain like this. I hate those deluges that always make me think my roof is going to sag under the onslaught of so much water at one time.
-
For me, the funniest part of PARIS WHEN IT SIZZLES is that Audrey Hepburn's perfume gets a screen credit.
Otherwise, it's one of her worst films, but I put it on every year or so just to make sure it's still as awful and unfunny as I remember it.
-
Looking forward to the Oscar bash tonight, but I won't be taking any pictures of myself. It's a bum day for me which means I probably won't shave or shower, and I'm not about to soil the internet with a pic of me looking like a homeless person.
-
I've decided on the movie that's coming off the to-watch shelf for me to watch this afternoon: WITH SIX YOU GET EGGROLL. It's light and funny, and it stars Doris Day, so what could be better?
-
Page Two THE INCREDIBLES Dance!!!
-
Sunday morning greetings! We had an ice storm last night, but it seems to be melting now.
I'm looking forward to the Oscar bash tonight. The Oscar broadcast does overlap by 30 minutes with this week's episode of the Grease thing, so what's a girl to do? I think that's what the JUMP button is for on the TV remote!
Of all the nominated films in all the categories, I've only seen:
An Inconvenient Truth,
Dreamgirls,
The Devil Wears Prada, and
The Queen
so I'll be cheering for those in the categories in which they're nominated and just let the rest of it entertain me (or not).
-
Boo and Callie looked out this morning...
-
And this is what they saw...
-
It really is a beautiful snow
-
Next year's Christmas card Photo
-
What I need to go do
-
DR CILLA LIZ - what a beautiful photo!!!
Loved the kitty photos from yesterday as well.
Please don't put icicle lights on those beautiful eaves. Just a wreath on the door will be fine!!
-
Is the living room to the right over the garage?
-
LOL....DR EDISAURUS and the goat boxer shorts!
DR ANDREA PATTI thanks for the BrainEx Party Pics!! Dazzling affair to say the least.
-
We had a terrible ice storm as well.....but today it's 39 degrees and the streets are clear. But it is going to rain.
-
Is the living room to the right over the garage?
Originally, yes that was the garage. Now there is a two car garage that's on the left side of the photo, the area below the dining room is the room I had to gut due to past water damage, termites in the drywall etc. It has sliding glass doors and is a very cheerful room. I am looking forward to redoing it.
-
Oh, my, DR Cillaliz, that's a LOT of snow! Hope you didn't plan to go anyplace today. Thanks for the photos.
-
You can't see the garage. It's behind the big tree, by the gazebo and the bomb shelter
-
DR Ginny, yes it it. In my old neighborhood it would be days before the streets were cleaned, here they have been around 3 times already, so I have no real excuses. It's still snowing a little. We got lucky and missed the ice. I'd rather have the snow any day.
DR JRand. I put lights on the garage, but the front only had a wreath on the door.
-
DR Cillaliz---
I LOVE your house! It's beeeyoootiful!!!
And lovely snow pix! I guess we will see no snow this winter. The groundhog was right!
-
I should say, I put lights on the garage because it faces the house of my little neighbor girls who begged me to put up lights so they could see them out their window. That's their dad blowing snow.
-
DR Cillaliz---
I LOVE your house! It's beeeyoootiful!!!
And lovely snow pix! I guess we will see no snow this winter. The groundhog was right!
Thanks! It was built in 1934. I've had to do quite a bit to it and still need to do a lot more, but I love it here, so it's more of an act of love than it is a pain.
-
But you have a turret!
Thanks for the answers! 8)
-
Boo and Callie looked out this morning...
We live in a parallel universe. (But with less snow...)
-
Here's another view of the house, you can see where the garage used to be and how they have built up a berm. There is a little sunken patio down there. You still can't see the garage, but you can see the livingroom windows
-
Pretty snow pictures, but I'm glad I'm here! The rain picked up in the last half hour or so, but I'd take that over snow and/or ice any day!
-
And butter. I forgot butter when we went to the store last night.
Yes - I am enduring the pain!
My breakfast toasted Cinnamon Raisin Thomas' English Muffin had to do with cream cheese (I have suffered worse fates).
My breakfast boiled eggs on buttered toast will need a substitute - probably fried egg sandwich on rye toast using mayo and mustard. (Again I will survive.)

Ahhh....okay. Thanks!

Adrianna, I didn’t realize how cute & petite you are-thanks for all the wonderful photos.

Edi-LOL. Is that your dog?

-
Well, off to make a big breakfast so I have the energy to dig out. I'm thinking eggs, home fried potatoes, a small dish of strawberries and whatever else I can come up with.
-
Cilla-the street & house photos are beautiful.
We are in the mists of a snow storm, the one the weather experts predicted for the last two nights. I was very happy this morning to find it had only rained last night, dosed off & woke up to snow.
Of course this means we will continue to loose our internet connection. I doubt I will be around much today.
-
I’m so confused. It just stopped snowing. :o

DR Jane, that's the storm I'm more worried about than this one. That one is scheduled to hit here right when I need to be traveling to the airport later this week. I'm hoping it misses us or at least loses steam before it gets here

I just really did not get how everybody could see that (those) dead guy(s). That really did not make sense to me. And it hindered my enjoyment. I'm wondering if others felt the same way.
Those "dead guys" were really Zombies (corpses inhabited by dead spirits by the power of Voodoo) - this was explained to Melinda by the professor when he gave her the Voodoo candle. (The bodies were in the process of decay which is why we have much goings-on about make-up.

Headed down now to fix some lunch and start on the laundry.

I just finished a DVD sent to me by DR MBARNUM. "Hot Summer" a 1968 East German Beach Musical. And I am speechless.

I went to Jr. high with a girl name Scooter Honeycutt. How's that for a first lady name? Can you imagine anyone in politics named "Scooter"?
Well, I guess maybe I can...
Unusual names are an interest of mine. I collect them. So feel free to send them my way!

I used to know a woman whose last name was "Lay." She changed it.

Don't get DR Sandra started on names.
All the posts on the names makes me think of the names for prorn stars and strippers -- and that old game where you're supposed to take the name of your first pet and the name of the first street you lived on -- and that would be your porn.
So how about it, you HHWers -- what would be your pron star name? (DR Emo will love this game considering what he always says is in his machine... :o)
Cason's would be: Honey White
Ms Karen's would be: Hootnanny James

Good morning dear lovely hainsies and kimlets....
As per instruction from our Grande Mensch, I'm posting exactly what it is I'm wearing to our Oscar bash tonight...
(although, I'm afraid anything would pale after the mental picture of dear BK in "a gown with golden balls.")

Our dog, Eddy, resting in the afternoon sun yesterday afternoon. She's a rescue dog, so we don't know her pedigree for sure, but we were told by the shelter that she is a mix of beagle and bassett hound. The trendy term for that is, apparently, a bagel. Self-toasting.

Next year's Christmas card Photo
WONDERFUL HOUSE, CILLALIZ!!! I'm absolutely JEALOUS!! I LOVE IT!!
And, yes, a perfect Christmas card photo.

Lovely jacket, DR MUSIC GUY. I supposed the matching trousers vest, tie, and socks would have just been gilding the lily.

And thinking about my porn star name -- not too sexy.... unless you're in to Hillbilly porn:
Hootnanny James Starring in:
Lil' Abner Blow Bob ~ The Second Nudie Musical

It's snowing here and absolutely LOVELY. I do love the snow--just not shoveling or driving in it.

Okay, I've stalled long enough, back to the paper writing salt mine...I will get this study packet finished.. I will, I willl, I will....I've lost my mind, but I'm confident I'll have it back by Tuesday..

DR JEANNE:

That's Shelby, who belongs to a songwriter friend visiting from Nashville. Shelby is a certified therapy dog! (But he still wasn't allowed in the house with the kitties...)

As for the Oscar Pool over at oscars.com...
The system does seem to be a bit slow right now. I guess it's everyone signing up for the pool.
Also, if you have ever signed for anything ABC-web-related (ABC, Disney, etc.), then you can use that log-in. And if you did participate in the pool last year, you nickname should be retained too.
-
Oooh... I guess I better get my Oscar picks in too.
-
Opening night of Tannhauser at the LA Opera last night was... ummmm, interesting. James Conlon - old school chum of mine from Juilliard - led the band... the horns played a few opening bars of that spectacular overture, and suddenly, there were naked people writhing under RED lights onstage... kinda distracted me from the superb orchestra playing sublime music... huh? Oh, well - at least an old school chum from Ye Olde Daze noticed I had come, to show support for a magnificent effort... how was I not invisible, among more than 3000 people?
Speaking of which... two hour round trip to attend your very fun and beautifully planned and catered Brain CD release partay? You're welcome. Anything I can do to help? You're welcome.
-
Oooh... I guess I better get my Oscar picks in too.
Done.
Even though I had actually seen a bunch of the nominated films this year for a change, I was sort of amazed at how many of the categories seemed like toss-ups to me. We shall see.
-
Cillaliz is there any way you can leave a day early, ahead of the storm?
I’m sure we had other pets but the first one I remember a name for is Pepe. That would make me Pepe (pepee) Crest.
-
And if any DRs still want to join in the pool over at Oscars.com, you have until 1:00pm PST to do so. So...

And the password is (whispered) "benjamin"

Shelby looks like a stuffed dog. Does he keep chasing the cats? Even though we don’t currently have a cat we have exposed Sherlock to them. If they stay still he just noses them, if they move he wants to play.
-
Naked people in Tannhauser. Good thing they had those red lights!
DR PENNYO - my guess is that you would stand out in a crowd of ANY size....in a good way, of course.
-
DR PennyO - That sounds very interesting indeed. Now, were they really naked? Or were they just in body suits? And if they were naked - or even if they were in body suits - were they nice to look at? -even if they were distracting. ;)
-
Shelby - so cute - is his last name Singleton?
-
And I have to say, after finally seeing "Babel" yesterday, I wouldn't be that surprised if Rinko Kikuchi ends up winning Best Supporting Actress.
-
DR JEANNE - favorite friends' names include:
Randy Davenport

Roger Saucerman
My DH contributes people he knows from high school:

Juan Person (When the P.A. would announce "would Juan Person come to the office", everyone rasied their hands.)
Horace Arnold (sounded like "Horizontal" over the P.A. system.)
-
DR FJL - How are Skip's computer woes? -I guess he bought a new tower? And, thus, the sound card fit issue.
-
People I knew:

Dick Hunter (used to be our mayor!)
Hobart Bodkin

...And I'm also guessing with that "Find the 79s" contest, that a lot of Tivo's and DVRs will be getting quite the workout tonight.

Marvelous Matt just left. I treated him to a listen of THE BRAIN (mandatory at my house). Guest room door, just restored, now has a new old rimlock with white porcelain doorknob (courtesy of eBay), is painted and looks lovely. (Don't touch, though--it's still wet!)

I didn't get that until I said it out loud....
Now I am laughing.

I've always thought "gilding the lily" sounded dirty.
-
Dear reader PennyO, I thought I'd said thank you when we hugged goodnight - perhaps you are deaf in the ear I said it into - but if, for some reason, I'm remembering incorrectly - thank you!
-
Oh, and I'm up. Had a lovely night's sleep, which I really needed.
-
Will we never get to page forty-two?
-
Just call me Pepper Bradbury.
-
How many lights do you have to dust?
Sounds like Music Guy is a far better housecleaner than any of the folks I've hired!
-
First pet? gosh, I'm not sure. does that parakeet that I caught when I was 3 or 4 count? I don't think he even had a name.
Otherwise, Tammy Globe. Not much of a name! (the Globe has got to go!)
-
DR PennyO - That sounds very interesting indeed. Now, were they really naked? Or were they just in body suits? And if they were naked - or even if they were in body suits - were they nice to look at? -even if they were distracting. ;)
Naked, down to tiny G-strings. No body suits. A boring half hour of simulated sex, in five basic positions. It went on and on... I would rather have actually heard the music. Porn - we're talking GOOD porn - I can get anywhere...
-
Otherwise, Tammy Globe. Not much of a name! (the Globe has got to go!)
TAMMY GLOBES could be a good porn name...
-
I guess that makes me Toby Neptune.
Sounds like a variation on Pluto Nash, doesn't it?
-
My predictions for Oscar night, albeit a bit late, are that I'll see some of the worst-looking gowns I've ever seen, but that one or two women will be dressed rather nicely.
-

I can hear it now: "Everybody is at rehearsal AGAIN! It must be a record!"
-
As this will be my first ever HHW Oscar partay, I must DRESS for the occasion. Let's see. I think I shall be besequined and bejewelled. Yes, dahling, my jewels, please, my jewels.
Maybe CILLALIZ or DAKOTA CELT can help me here. What does one do when the knee-high snow boots simply do not GO with the sequined gown?? Or maybe snappy-dresser MUSIC GUY can advise me.

Cillaliz is there any way you can leave a day early, ahead of the storm?
I’m sure we had other pets but the first one I remember a name for is Pepe. That would make me Pepe (pepee) Crest.
I have a major sentencing Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 PM. It will probably take 2 hours maybe less. After that I am leaving. It's a sentencing that really can't be changed. I asked to have 30 extra days to prepare for it because of new information and the judge moved it 2 days, but gave me an extra week before the deadlines for motions etc for the sentencing. So, all of that has been filed, and it's time for this one to be over.
I don't think the storm is supposed to hit until Wednesday night, so I'll just keep my fingers crossed.
-
I think I will watch FLIGHT TO MARS

Gotcha.
Just remember, some of those "snaps" are supposed to be loud.
I remember the first time I put a card in a computer myself...I heard a "SNAP" that sounded more like a '"CRACK" holy moly I thought I had broked it for sure

It's very chilly today.

Corky Fitzpatrick, here.
Back from a trip to the grocery for the ingredients for the home-cooked dinner I promised DH Richard. It's a recipe that my dad found in the newspaper years ago and my copy of it is in his handwriting:
Tysson Casserole
2 lbs. stew beef
1 C. sherry
1 can cream of mushroom soup (sorry)
1 pkg. Lipton onion soup mix
Combine all in a baking dish and top with sliced fresh mushroooms. Cover and bake at 325o for 3 hours. Serve over cooked noodles.
Add a green veggie and some crusty bread and it's yummy.
-
Perhaps I'll have chili in honor of the chilly day.

DR Jose- The weather channel says you are going to get lots of snow in NYC
-
Cilla - here's a question: If a minor is arrested for murder and is being detained at juvenile hall - can anyone visit him aside from lawyer and relative?
-
It's very chilly today.
Chilly? Sweetie, we have a couple inches of snow.
-
My snowblower (the old cheap one) came through for me again. It wasn't easy because it's deep wet snow, but that little baby moved it all off the driveway. The sidewalks were too much for me today. I started feeling light headed, so I quit. I have now showered and had a small bowl of chili. I'm feeling much better and if I wanted to go somewhere I could.
-
I was SUPPOSED to be culling today, but instead was chatting with Matt and catching up on the posts. Must go shovel and get that out of the way.
WBBL, y'all.

1 C. sherry

I'd give some thought to what type of Sherry, Cheri.
I think a less than dry creamy sherry would make the dish cloying!

Lovely jacket, DR MUSIC GUY. I supposed the matching trousers vest, tie, and socks would have just been gilding the lily.
I believe that matching trousers might do more than gild the lily!

DR Jose- The weather channel says you are going to get lots of snow in NYC
:)
I just checked that out too! -Since I've been getting reports about the snow down in DC.
Of course, depending on the course of the storm, we could get a lot of "pretty snow", or we could end up with inches of freezing rain and sleet. Again. We shall see.
In any case... I guess it's good I'm not traveling today.
-
Cilla - here's a question: If a minor is arrested for murder and is being detained at juvenile hall - can anyone visit him aside from lawyer and relative?
I'll respond to your im about this
-
DR PennyO - That sounds very interesting indeed. Now, were they really naked? Or were they just in body suits? And if they were naked - or even if they were in body suits - were they nice to look at? -even if they were distracting. ;)
when we were recording in London in 2001, the Royal Opera production of RIGOLETTO (now on DVD) and a bunch of naked orgy goes running around in Act One. I didn't see the production, but several involved with the recording were scandalized. In Eurotrash opera productions, nudity is old-hat. I think clothing is now the novelty.

AP (http://news.aol.com/strange/story/_a/bill-takes-swing-at-fake-bull-testicles/n20070222173009990014?cid=936)
Bill Takes Swing at Fake Bull Testicles
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (Feb. 22) - Fake bull testicles and other anatomically explicit vehicle decorations would be banned from Maryland roads under a bill pending in the state legislature.
The measure was filed in the General Assembly Monday by Delegate LeRoy E. Myers Jr., R-Washingon, who says children shouldn't be exposed to giant plastic gonads dangling from pickup truck trailer hitches. The bill also would ban depictions of naked human breasts, buttocks or genitals, with offenses punishable by fines of up to $500.

I have been to Mars. It is very interesting. The Martian girls all wear very short skirts and very high heels. They walk around with T-squares and say very scientific things.
-
Red Carpet E! coverage starts in less than two hours....then I think I may watch some of THE AMAZING RACE before The Oscars.....there is a half hour break in there network wise for some dumb show. Time Will Tell.
-
I've been to Mars as well, but I've never been to me.
-
Or should that be: I've never been to E!
-
I really get BORED with the monologue (it's not a television variety show) - and I don't care how entertaining it is - it suddenly becomes ALL about the host(ess). The awards could be given out in about 90 minutes tops....the rest is time to fill between the expensive commercials.

The E! Channel used to start Oscar coverage at noon EST, and I used to be stupid enough to watch it, but those days are gone forever. For me, the Oscars used to be MY day, and I really did wait with baited breath for them each year.
Now, though I watch them, I seem removed from them and my interest is more a carryover from the old days than any real interest in the films that are now celebrated.
THough I never thought the Oscars were infallible, they were often more right than wrong about the choices. I'm not so sure any more about their selections.
-
I began my afternoon with the delightful WITH SIX YOU GET EGGROLL. I had forgotten so much about this movie. I had NO idea it was a Panavision film. (The excellent transfer was not only anamorphic but also had a Dolby Digital 5.1 track, another surprise).
Brian Keith had a gorgeous body for us to admire when he fell out of the camper with only his boxer shorts on.
Didn't remember Barbara Hershey as the daughter. So nice to see her so young. John Findlater was also a handsome guy as Doris' oldest son.
-
I spent the remainder of the afternoon watching three episodes of LAW & ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT from the second season set I'm still watching (on disc 3 now).
Each episode guest starred a well known New York-based actor:
John Benjamin Hickey in the first one. (Karen Black was also in that one)
Lee Tergesen in the second one.
Michael Hayden in the third one. (And Hal Linden was also in this one.)
-
I keep forgetting that Brian Keith and James Garner were sex symbols once upon a time.
-
You played the Mighty Mo? when was that? Love the jacket---you would have fit right in on stage at SISTER ACT!
I've played at the Fox, on and off, since around the time of the first threats to the building by Bell South. I actually did the first 2 fund/awareness-raiser concerts there - I think around 1976 or so??
And if I'm gonna be in Sister Act, I want the Kathy Najimy part!
-
I'll probably be watching GREASE during the half hour arrival show on ABC, and then switch over to the Oscars at 8:30. So while others are talking here about the arrivees in their fancy clothes, I'll be talking about the GREASE contestants. That should offer some variety.
-
I keep forgetting that Brian Keith and James Garner were sex symbols once upon a time.
And they deserved to be. They were both gorgeous men in their primes.

DR MusicGuy is The Mighty Mo!
;D
Thank you dear guapo Jose.......and I'm still peeing myself over "Princess Kennedy"
By the way..... my porn/drag name turns out to be Taffy Florence.
-
Frankly, I was a bit surprised NBC decided to run new episodes of GREASE and the 10 p.m. CROSSING JORDAN opposite the Oscars. The other networks (and HBO, for that matter) are pretty much airing reruns and not trying to compete at all with the Oscars.
-
That is quite a fancy organ you have their DR Musicguy!

I've always thought "gilding the lily" sounded dirty.

When I was a very wee lad, I assumed that Brian Keith and Sebastian Cabot were the names of the performers who played Jody and Buffy on FAMILY AFFAIR. I figured the kids must have been THE STARS of the show, and those were the names that were in the opening credits. I was shocked shockjed shocked to learn that "the kids" credits were relegated to the after-show crawl.
-
Thank you dear guapo Jose.......and I'm still peeing myself over "Princess Kennedy"
By the way..... my porn/drag name turns out to be Taffy Florence.
This makes my Sandra Parkview sound even more boring.
Sandra was a hamster I named after myself.
-
And if I'm gonna be in Sister Act, I want the Kathy Najimy part!
I hung out a bit with who I guess was the Najimy equivalent---named Amy. She was really sweet and didn't mind spending time with us, even though I know she was probably tired and had another show that night. She was terrific!
-
What deos shockjed mean? is that a Beverly Hillbillies reference?

In the 70's, I saw Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring at the Edinburgh Festival. The whole stage had been covered in dirt, and the sweatier the dancers got, the muddier they got until it looked more like a mud-wrestling match than a ballet.
I went to a production of one part of the Ring Cycle at the Paris Opera House (drop-a-name) some years back. To be "with it" and hip, the only stage set and/or decoration, were stacks of plain stage sand bags, in various sizes, with bare light bulbs on the floor behind them.
They led "whoever-soprano" in on a real horse, and within minutes the horse had kicked or stepped on several light bulbs and they burst with a popping sound. Thankfully, the horse didn't spook. But some of the audience did, and left.
HIDEOUS production.......... GORGEOUS venue!!

The first flan was a flooop, although it will probably taste good. I just finished flan #2 and have higher hopes for it.
All these years i have wasted, never learning how to cook in my 100- degrees-in-summer kitchen. I will have a lot of catching up to do when we move. Maybe while DR Jose is here he might have a look at the new kitchen in Atlanta. It would be nice to have advice from someone who actually cooks!

His brother certainly is - the more times I watch it, the more fascinated I become.
-
Oh my God....
....... OH -- MY -- GOD --
Why don't we just send this kid all of my old Judy Garland albums, Armistead Maupin novels, and a real estate guide to West Hollywood.
And the parents will probably remain oblivious. :)
LOL!! So true. What about the kid behind him.. half way through he just sits and stares at the wall.
-
About 45 minutes to the Red Carpet....I hope the ladies have their teles in place.
Where is DR CP - is he rehearsing his TARTUFFE yet?
-
Next year's Christmas card Photo
(http://www.haineshisway.com/community/attachments/house_2.jpg)
That's a beautiful picture. :D
-
LOL!! So true. What about the kid behind him.. half way through he just sits and stares at the wall.
"Cher" does a lot of signed English, so I am thinking that his older brother is deaf and pretty unaware of exactly what is transpiring. 8)
-
Agreed, DR GEORGE. So much so, that I am thinking of using it as MY Christmas card this year.
-
That's a beautiful picture. :D
Thanks, George.
-
As for unusual names... There's a character actor who went to my alma mater, Virginia Commonwealth University, and the first time I met him, I almost thought his name was a joke. Well, that he was joking with me. But he wasn't.
Raynor Scheine
I have a friend whose real first and middle names are Raney December (she was born in September...if you know what I'm sayin' ;)).
-
Agreed, DR GEORGE. So much so, that I am thinking of using it as MY Christmas card this year.
;D
-
And there was a guy in my high school named Joe Kerr. And Stephen King's son just had a book published, but he used a different last name so that there wouldn't be any undue expectations on what kind of book it might be. He used the name Joe Hill, but his real name is Joe King. :)
-
We don't get E! so I won't be watching that.
-
Well, I think I shall try to get out for a little bit. I really do not want to end up "apartment bound" due to my lolly-gagging.
*And I can still make it to Levain too.
;)
Maybe.
-
Off to the Printer. 8)
-
And, thankfully(?), the Red Carpet coverage drives me up the wall, so...
-
Bk - Melinda Tanner from your old LACC days was just here running some music with Skip, and she says to say hi to you from her. (Apparently, "I See Rainbows" was the song she sang on her first audition in NYC.)
This is indeed two-degrees-of-Bruce-Kimmel week here in our apartment.
-
when we were recording in London in 2001, the Royal Opera production of RIGOLETTO (now on DVD) and a bunch of naked orgy goes running around in Act One. I didn't see the production, but several involved with the recording were scandalized. In Eurotrash opera productions, nudity is old-hat. I think clothing is now the novelty.
Is it the one with Marcelo Alvarez, Peter Auty, and Christine Schafer?? ::)
;)
-
Now time to tie some I Ching coins together for Money Charms.
-
I'm heading down now to clean the guest bathroom, and then I have to set up the laptop so I can watch the show(s) and converse on the web at the same time.
WBBL.
-
Jennifer Holliday about to sing "Hand Hi Ham Tillin' Hugh - Ham Nut Goooing" on E! right after these commercials.
-
Off to the Printer. 8)
LOL!!
-
Uh - oh....makes that "lip synchs" the song.
-
Good heavens we'll hit 300 before the preshow begins...that's amazing
-
Will we never get to page forty-two?
Not at this rate. ::)
;D
-
It will only take a little push
-
Tonight during the Oscars I will be wearing jeans, t-shirt, and a jacket, as I will be trapping feral cats that live in the shed beside the church. The drinking club -- I mean service club -- next door has been feeding them, and I want to get them fixed before there are kittens.
-
Porn - we're talking GOOD porn - I can get anywhere...
Is there really such a thing as GOOD porn??
-
Naked, down to tiny G-strings. No body suits. A boring half hour of simulated sex, in five basic positions....
No one had a large G-string? No wonder it was boring.
-
Oh we could maek page 42, at least if tonight is the least bit interesting
-
One of the bosses where I used to work was named Dick Genetelli.
One of the big honchos at Armco Steel in the 1970s was Dick Head.
-
Wow Jennifer is on the roof by the Cinegrill sign....at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel where they gave a big party for Frances Farmer after her humm-illy-ation on THIS IS YOUR LIFE.
-
One of the big onchos at Armco Steel in the 1970s was Dick Head.
What was his name? ::)
-
PUSH!
-
Oh... Guess that "PUSH" wasn't really needed.
-
...In Eurotrash opera productions, nudity is old-hat. I think clothing is now the novelty.
But think of what it saves on the costuming budget!
-
I have on black JeansWorks jeans, a blue short sleeved Breakdown squaretail shirt with gold thread checks, new white Hanes socks with gray toes & heels and my Tony Stewart boxers.
-
If Jennifer was singing "live" why didn't we have the ambient traffic-outdoor sounds we got when Ryan interviewed her afterwards? Huh?
-
I'm wearing a swearshirt with "NEW YORK" on it and a pair of grey cotton pants and my slippers
-
And there was a guy in my high school named Joe Kerr.
I have a friend named Joe Kerr. He was a screenwriter in LA and now he's moved to Atlanta and is teaching film in college. (He's the guy whose class I spoke to last quarter.) His DP works at Turner. Wonder if it is the same Joe?
-
Ooop.... I'm still here...
Wasn't I going to head out for a bit?
-
Test message. Hope everything is working OK on this laptop.
-
Hmmmm. The message went through fine, but I got thrown off the site!
-

How old is he? He graduated high school in 1981 or 1982...maybe (but not as likely) in 1983.
-
I've finally caught up with all the posts. Now I need to get something to eat. :)
-
But before I go...
Thank you dear guapo Jose.......and I'm still peeing myself over "Princess Kennedy"
By the way..... my porn/drag name turns out to be Taffy Florence.
The name of the first cat that my sister and I had was Frisky (actually, we had four Friskys in a row ::)) and the earliest street name that I can remember (and my parents still live there) is Husky Way, so I'd be Frisky Husky. That's appropriate, but it doesn't make sense. If you use my current street name, I'd be Frisky Israel. Or my current cat's name, Ebonie Israel. I like Frisky Israel. ;D
-
Hey, Mom, do we have any floop?
-
And since food is downstairs, it won't take long. :)
-
I haven't turned my TV back on yet. I'm still doing little odd jobs around the house as I come back to the laptop.
-
We thought we would practice the labyrinth design on the flat flan. We will probably bring it, too, since it may taste OK.
So here's Flan's Labyrinth, as suggested by FJL and decorated by Greg, he of the steady hand:
-
I'm wearing a gray t-shirt, a white BIG RIVER sweatshirt, black sweatpants, white socks, and brown slippers.
-
"God ignored the Holocaust, but He wanted 'Dreamgirls' to win the Tony."
I forget who said that, but I have a feeling we may hear something similar tonight. Hope God isn't too busy, what with the world situation and all.
-
Very nice flan, DR Edi!
-
Flan's Lab looks like a Winner! to me!!!
DR GEORGE - there's always Frisky Way.
-
Ten minutes to the Red Carpet.
-
"God ignored the Holocaust, but He wanted 'Dreamgirls' to win the Tony."
I forget who said that, but I have a feeling we may hear something similar tonight. Hope God isn't too busy, what with the world situation and all.
Jennifer Hudson has already intimated as much in the two acceptance speeches I've heard her give during the season. If she wins tonight, you can count on it.
-
Flan's Lab looks like a Winner! to me!!!
DR GEORGE - there's always Frisky Way.
I was thinking both of these things...
-
How old is he? He graduated high school in 1981 or 1982...maybe (but not as likely) in 1983.
Which high school?
I think he's probably younger than that, but maybe he's just well-maintained.
Funny, though, it never occured to me: Joe Kerr= Joker. Duh.
-
DR JOSE - I think you're stuck inside now....it is ZERO HOUR
-
We could count the number of times someone thanks God for their award...
-
I was thinking both of these things...
;D
-
Are you on E!, DR Jrand?
-
We could count the number of times someone thanks God for their award...
You're on! 8)
-
Announcer just thanked God for Meryl's nomination in a comedy.
-
Are you on E!, DR Jrand?
Yes ;D
-
Which high school?
I think he's probably younger than that, but maybe he's just well-maintained.
Funny, though, it never occured to me: Joe Kerr= Joker. Duh.
Timberline High School in Lacey, Washington. I graduated in 1984.

Safe Driving Vibes to Der Brucer ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He drove quite safely, and drove me home safely as well.
However, just to be on the safer side, we've parked the car on our small bit of lawn by the roadside. He had trouble getting the car up the driveway (a steep five-foot rise to street level), and we figured that, if he has to drive me in to work tomorrow, it will be easier to walk up to the car and street than drive to the street.
-
I flipped on the TV GUIDE Channel for a second. I may be jumping back and forth until 8.
-
Timberline High School in Lacey, Washington. I graduated in 1984.
I'll find out!
-
I am dreading a FOUR HOUR show! I hope you are incorrect on that, DR CILLA LIZ.....but I have a feeling you aren't.
-

Amen.

Me: Woodstock Film Festival T-Shirt (we were rejected this year but won a prize at the last one with The Internationale) jeans, blue socks and black merrill mocs.
DH will be wearing a Flan-nel shirt!
-
I'll find out!
We didn't know each other, I just knew his name.
-
Is there really such a thing as GOOD porn??
You betcha!
DR Cillaliz, I love the photos of your house. Which is the window for DR jhvw. Where is that boy?
-
It hasn't been four hours in years. Last year was 3 1/2 and the year before right at 3, so maybe it won't be so long.
-
Uh - oh - here we goooooooooooooooooooooooo
-
Ladies and Gentlemen:
Welcome to the HHW Oscar Par-tay!
Let the posting begin!!!
-
Looks like it's windy. Hope they all sprayed their hairs.
-
I don't like Guiliana DePandi.
-
I am dreading a FOUR HOUR show! I hope you are incorrect on that, DR CILLA LIZ.....but I have a feeling you aren't.
That's what they said on TV Guide Channel, based on the rehearsals
-
She is weird.
-
We could count the number of times someone thanks God for their award...
That's when we should take a drink. But then we might all wind up swackered by 10:00 PM.
-
Somebody make Debbie Metanopolous eat something
-
That's when we should take a drink. But then we might all wind up swackered by 10:00 PM.
;D ;D
-
That's what they said on TV Guide Channel, based on the rehearsals
Ugh! No show like this needs to be so long. And it wasn't even that outstanding a year at the movies.
-
Who is the guy in glasses behind Ryan being interviewed?
-
Ellen is hilarious!
-
I love Ellen. No politics, please.
-
Joan is on TV GUIDE now. Joan's had callogen injesctions. Ridiculous!
-
I can't watch Joan...she is scary.
-
I love Ellen. No politics, please.
Ellen usually stears clear of that stuff. There may be some slight puffballs in her monologue, but not much.
-
Joan has on a red fur and is doing jokes about Heather McCartney's prosthetic leg....back to E!
-
So true, DR MATTH. And if she says anything it's usually more to the point and funnier than the strong knocks so many others try.
-
You betcha!
DR Cillaliz, I love the photos of your house. Which is the window for DR jhvw. Where is that boy?
He's fine. He's looking at some other opportunities so it's looking less like he will live here, but it's still a possibility. He's coming to visit in April.
-
James McAvoy - brush your hair.
-
That's when we should take a drink. But then we might all wind up swackered by 10:00 PM.
Speaking of which, I got ripped at work today.
Different kind of ripped. My pants have a three-inch gash right about mid-thigh. Fortunately, it's at the same level as the pocket. Still, can't say I like losing a pair of work pants like this.
Der B thinks he might be able to patch them.
-
Testing...testing...1,2,3...
Logged on via the laptop in the family room in front of the color TV. This is cool!
Watching E!, but will take a break to finalize dinner.
-
I see the cute Peter Skarrsgaard with wife.
-
Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard....lovely couple.
Maggie in black cross shoulder strap dress....sweet. Kind funky hair up style though
-
Der Brucer is watching Fox News.
:-\
-
Juliana just called that guy a queen. She's a pig.
-
The Oscars show is on already?
-

Those pesky fans!! 8)

It's addicting....tv, my recliner, and the internet all at the same time...
-
Who is Michael Sheen? He's freaky looking.
-
Me: Black jeans, my gray University of Cincinnati Bearcats MOM sweatshirt, red socks, gray felt clogs. I'm wearing my diamond earrings for some bling.
-
Let Peter get in a word edgewise, Ryan.
-
Damn Keith Robinson needs his pants hemmed - at least two inches too long.
-
Please. Who cares if they're ,married?
-
And we had flan, flan, flan 'til that Edi took our teaspoons away.
That was from GOOD LIBATIONS, wasn't it?
-
And Peter has made several films with Jake. Ryan should have known that.
-
Juliana just called that guy a queen. She's a pig.
Which guy?? :o I was putting my pizza in the oven and I missed it!
-

Check your store's policy. At most of the places I've worked, if you've damaged your clothing on the job, you can be compensated.
-
Damn they just drew a line down Maggie's boob, but I don't know why.
-
Which guy?? :o I was putting my pizza in the oven and I missed it!
It was some "joke" fashion segment, I think. 8)
-
Damn they just drew a line down Maggie's boob, but I don't know why.
It was some discussion about how Maggie's dress frames her face.
-
Oh...it's fake Tony Blair from THE QUEEN.
Ryan is an idiot interviewer.
-
Okay i think i'm in trouble re: ocsar posts. It's only 6pm and i have 13 pages to read!
-
Dirty side to Helen Mirren? Why would Seacrest want to know?
-
Joan Rivers said when they come back she'll be singing the Three Mile Island version of a Dream Girls Song....I'm not Glowing
-
Ryan has no idea what kind of movies that Helen Mirren has made!
-
Okay i think i'm in trouble re: ocsar posts. It's only 6pm and i have 13 pages to read!
DR Jen--I'm just diving in, myself. I'll catch up with today's posts during lulls.
-
Hahaha. Ryan's stats on Craig's List - as if they're not there already. If he's 5'9" - I am 6'!!
-
And she looks WAY too skinny, too!
-
Joan Rivers said when they come back she'll be singing the Three Mile Island version of a Dream Girls Song....I'm not Glowing
Hehehehe..... ;D
-
Y TU MAMA TAMBIEN boy! All growed up.
-
Jodie Foster is there solo.
-
JFC!! Al Gore and Tipper are in the house.
-
Y TU MAMA is so fat...
-
JESUS CAMP producers are on TVG channel.
-
Keith from DREAMGIRLS looks nice.
-
Larry David is there? Isn't he at the wrong ceremony?
-
Jodie Foster is there solo.
Taking her girlfriend would out her. When I worked at Drama Book Shop in 1980 or so, Jodie showed up one Saturday with all these mucho butch Yale theatre tech ladies.
-
Why is Ryan Seacrest where he is? Does he really think that he is responsible for the success of the shows he hosts when it is the other way around?
-
John Singleton
-
Oh I see Gael and Diego!
-
Taking her girlfriend would out her. When I worked at Drama Book Shop in 1980 or so, Jodie showed up one Saturday with all these mucho butch Yale theatre tech ladies.
I know, but at this stage of her life, I just can't believe she'd want to do this any more.
-
Shut up Ryan.
-
Better Ryan Seacrest than Billy Bush.
-
Better Ryan Seacrest than Billy Bush.
I agree, but he's doping the GREASE show tonight. Yay! One thing the show has done for us!
-
Better Ryan Seacrest than Billy Bush.
You got that right! ;)
-
Anne Hathaway's makeup makes her nose look big.
-
Jodie looks good.
-
I agree, but he's doping the GREASE show tonight. Yay! One thing the show has done for us!
GREASE needs doping? I heard it was doing badly but will that help?
-
Jodie looks nice. Like the color of her dress. Not too crazy about the Bad News Bears haircut though.
-
Anne Hathaway's makeup makes her nose look big.
Must be using Adrian Brody's makeup artist. ;D
-
I wonder what hairpiece Ben Affleck will have on tonight?
-
If I'm going to be bitchy and critical tonight, I better go clean my glasses so I can better cast my cold discerning gaze.
-
GREASE needs doping? I heard it was doing badly but will that help?
I've already said I'm going to be making a ton of typing errors tonight. Unless you want to spend the evening riffing on them, better get used to it. :D
-
Japanese girl from BABEL has on a fantastic black re-embroidered dress...strapless!
And Jennifer Hudson is wearing a Deanna Durbin jacket!
-
I'm so glad no rap songs are nominated tonight!
-
Tipper has Blass on her ass.
-
The man who should have been our President in 2000.
-
OMG Gore is making a speech.
-
The man who should have been our President in 1998.
And 2008. :D
-
Ya know Catherine Deneuve gets more and more beautiful. Nice dress too.
-
I'd like to have seen the entire Jennifer Lopez dress.
-
My eyes!!! My eyes!!!!
J Lo is wearing Carroll Baker's old baby doll PJ's.
-
Ryan says "I" more than anybody on TV.
-
I've never liked Penelope Cruz.
-
Juliana and that Jay guy are constantly contradicting each other and just making each other look dumb. :P
-
I liked J. Lo's dress.
-
There's the rest of it, DR MATTH.
Nice Laura Petrie hair!
-
I've never liked Penelope Cruz.
Me too either. ;D
-
I think I saw that jacket Jennifer Hudson is wearing on an episode of LOST IN SPACE.
-
I think I saw that Jacket Jennifer Hudson is wearing on an episode of LOST IN SPACE.
Will wore it because the Robot wouldn't.
-
Juliana and that Jay guy are constantly contradicting each other and just making each other look dumb. :P
In Juliana's case, that's a no brainer! (pun intended)
-
Rachel Weisz - butterfly boobs.
-
Emily Blunt was so good in PRADA.
-
DOn't like Jennifer Hudson's outfit at all.
-
Until I actually heard him speak, I had always thought Michael Bubile was European.
-
Joanie has been talking to all the Documentary nominees, so DR EDISAURUS get ready for next year.
-
DOn't like Jennifer Hudson's outfit at all.
Maybe she forgot to pray about what to wear. :P
-
Until I actually heard him speak, I had always thought Michael Bubile was European.
He and Emily look GOOD together! 8)
-
Sorry I hate J Lo's baby doll long dress and her bra is doing something really strange to her boobs.
-
Travolta is fatter than ever!
-
John Travolta got devil horn's hair.
-
Helen Mirren looks stunning!
-
Helen Mirren looks stunning! A gold re embroidered lace dress.
Ryan introduces himself to Jodie.
-
Jessical Biel looks casually pretty.
-
I call shenanigans on DR MATT H
-
Jodie is very bright and funny!
Why does Will Smith have a career....why is there a Jada?
-
Travolta is fatter than ever!
Maybe he bulked up for Edna.
-
Jessical Biel looks casually pretty.
Maybe she doesn't know it's the Oscars.
Uh - oh Jodie-Penelope hookup in the future. ;D
-
Jada Pinkett Smith is not looking good. Her hair does nothing for her. :P
-
Yeah, I don't get Will Smith. He's OK but I don't get why he's such a reliable box-office performer.
-
Cruz has crushed boobs....very unbecoming.
-
Jada Pinkett Smith is not looking good. Her hair does nothing for her. :P
Her hair would even do nothing for me! 8)
-
I think Penelope looks like a duck.
-
Cameron Diaz's dress is lovely, but her hair...not so much. ::)
-
Ryan said wang four times.
Wang party....hehehehehehe
-
Boy Penelope is a realist at least...I give her that.
-
Stupid Question by Joan Rivers....."When did you first realize that you are beautiful?"
-
Cameron really does look better as a blonde.
-
Every time I hear a starlette say "I'm wearing Vera Wang." I want to giggle.
-
Cameron Diaz....lord, girl! Don't like the dress and the makeup is funky.
-
You guys are so funny.
These celebrities should log in here to find out what folks REALLY think!
-
Isn't it pathetic that Ryan has to introduce himself to these celebrities.
-
James Taylor is at his first Oscars. He's performing with Randy Newman, should be great
-
John is a handsome man....
There's my namesake: Jackie Earle Haley
-
Isn't it pathetic that Ryan has to introduce himself to these celebrities.
Can you say poetic justice?
-
James Taylor is at his first Oscars. He's performing with Randy Newman, should be great
Off topic, but there is a Great Performances on PBS this week that is some kind of James Taylor tribute.
-
I didn't know Meryl Streep came up with the idea of donating all the costumed in Devil Wears Prada to charity.
-
But Ryan's on the #1 TV show in the country (for the last five years). He has a hit radio show in LA. Seems like he'd been known already.
-
Melissa quote "That's a great dress...I don't know who we're looking at but it's a beautiful dress"
-
Why does Jennifer Hudson keep touching her hoo-hah?
-
Jennifer Hudson would look great if she lost that jacket.
-
Oh, there's Helen Mirran she does look lovely.
-
Oh - it's Simon....
-
Why does Jennifer Hudson keep touching her hoo-hah?
It's her Carol Burnett pulling on her ear thing.
-
Hottie Leo!!
-
I'll say this. I have very little rooting interests tonight (unlike last year), but if Jennifer doesn't win, I'm going to be very disappointed.
-
It's her Carol Burnett pulling on her ear thing.
For the 21st Century. ;D
-
It's her Carol Burnett pulling on her ear thing.
LOL "Grandma, when I pull my hoo-hah, I'm saying good night"
-
I'm eating pizza with portobello mushrooms for dinner. What are y'all eating?
-
Sally Kirkland on Joanie....she needs to be in a home somewhere..
-
Sally Kirkland on Joanie....she needs to be in a home somewhere..
LOL, she looked like a magician
-
I'm eating pizza with portobello mushrooms for dinner. What are y'all eating?
I had a big fried chicken dinner around 1 p.m. today. If I have anything else, it'll be popcorn in a little while.
-
I'll say this. I have very little rooting interests tonight (unlike last year), but if Jennifer doesn't win, I'm going to be very disappointed.
I'm thinking of changing two of my predictions. I'm now thinking Alan Arkin and BABEL will be winners for Supprting Actor and Picture.
-
LOL, she looked like a magician
A dead magician! ;D
-
I had a big fried chicken dinner around 1 p.m. today. If I have anything else, it'll be popcorn in a little while.
how big was that chicken? ;D
-
I'm eating pizza with portobello mushrooms for dinner. What are y'all eating?
I would LIKE to be eating floop and ice cream, but I can't get up because part of me is trapped under a sleeping cat.
-
Sally Kirkland who has milked her one nomination for ANNA all those years ago into a permanent appearance at these events.
-
I'm thinking of changing two of my predictions. I'm now thinking Alan Arkin and BABEL will be winners for Supprting Actor and Picture.
Did you pray about it?
-
Did Will and Jada just run behind Ryan and not stop?
MY prayers have been answered.
-
I'm back... and I now have a somewhat tidier garage. Alert the media!
-
There's Steve Carrell and his wife.
-
John Travolta's hair is really goofy. Joan's question, how do you keep the jet fuel smell out of your house?
-
I'm eating pizza with portobello mushrooms for dinner. What are y'all eating?
I just had some Tony's sausage and pepperoni pizza. :)
-
All of the "E" stuff is so incredibly shit-headed, lame, ...... and...
STYUPID, STYUID, STYUPID !!!!
-
At last a REAL tuxedo.....on Steve Carrell.
-
leo leo leo leo leo
-
OK---we're off to the lesser par-tay. Keep the home fries and the floop burning!
-
...Ryan is an idiot interviewer.
Is that about who he's talking to?
-
Leo brought his mommy
-
All of the "E" stuff is so incredibly shit-headed, lame, ...... and...
STYUPID, STYUID, STYUPID !!!!
But it's better than the crap on TV Guide Channel, that I seem to be watching because I don't get E!
-
I think we have our first God reference (although, it's not during an acceptance speech):
Ryan: I think you're gonna walk away with the statue. I really do.
Jennifer Hudson: Oh, God. Pray for me, pray for me.
-
I'm thinking of changing two of my predictions. I'm now thinking Alan Arkin and BABEL will be winners for Supprting Actor and Picture.
The game is locked so you can't change them now
-
Did you pray about it?
God is saying to me, "Go with Arkin. But Picture is up for grabs."
-
Leo had a pretty good appearance.
-
Observations....
John Travolta's hair is definitely all his...... he paid for it several times.
Ryan Seacrest just needs to get laid in a leather bar !
Jodie Foster always looks classy, and carries herself like a lady, in the real meaning of the word.
And who is that dippy queen with the bleached crew-cut with Juliana ??
-
Does Sally actually attend the awards or does she just show up for the Red Carpet?
-
I'm watching Barbara Walters....Ellen Degeneres just thanked God...didn't hear for what, I just tuned in. Sheesh!
-
Wow! He's the guy from the Janet Jackson video!
-
Jay is the fashionista, DR MUSIC GUY.
-
Talking about underwear! How classy is that!
-
At last...someone shorter than Ryan.
-
The game is locked so you can't change them now
Darn!
-
I don't know from Ryan Seacrest, but I saw Helen Mirren on TV Guide channel with Joan Rivers.
That dress makes her look tres boobalicious.
-
I have a rum cake baking in my oven.
An Oscar show treat!
-
Does Sally actually attend the awards or does she just show up for the Red Carpet?
I don't think it matters. She's just as tacky as she can be.
What a crappy dress she was raving on and on about.
-
Idiot Seacrest is the only person there that would refer to men's underwear as "panties"........now we know what is in his closet (other than himself).
-
Celine in puke green
-
I almost made a opan of brownies today, but common sense prevailed.
-
I'm watching Barbara Walters....Ellen Degeneres just thanked God...didn't hear for what, I just tuned in. Sheesh!
She has quite a bit to thank HIM/HER for:
She has had the last laugh at the expense of Newt Gingrich, Anne Heche and every other bottom-feeder who took potshots at her.
-
Der Brucer thinks Leonardo needs a facelift - bags under the eyes - his favorite little twinkie is getting middle-aged!
-
Observations....
Ryan Seacrest just needs to get laid in a leather bar !
I heard he went to one and was turned off by all the chiffon he found there.
-
My cat just woke up.
-
Ellen is TOPS!!
-
Ha! Okay, it looks like Jennifer took off the Queen from Outer Space jacket.
-
My cat just woke up.
Hurry - go eat! ;D
-
And he's asleep again.
-
I'm back - I totally forgot how early this pre-show crap starts. What time do the actual Oscars begin?
-
Travolta has two movies to promote: WILD HOGS and HAIRSPRAY, so I guess that';s why he's there.
-
She has quite a bit to thank HIM/HER for:
She has had the last laugh at the expense of Newt Gingrich, Anne Heche and every other bottom-feeder who took potshots at her.
Oh, I understand that, I just meant I didn't hear what she was specifically talking about during the interview
-
Excellent postings so far - all records could be smashed. Last year at this time we were still on page eight.
-
Idiot Seacrest is the only person there that would refer to men's underwear as "panties"........now we know what is in his closet (other than himself).
Some folks around these parts rather like Ryan Seacrest.
So....gosh knows he's getting well-paid for being who he is.
At any rate....when he's referring to panties, I am sure he's thinking of Simon Cowell's.
-
My gown is devastating.
-
I'm back - I totally forgot how early this pre-show crap starts. What time do the actual Oscars begin?
8:30/5:30
-
Spike Lee in a white dinner jacket.
-
I shall now turn on the TV. I shall do this by hiking up my gown and showing my gams. That always turns on the TV.
-
Will we never get to page twenty?
-
My hair looks glorious.
-
And he's asleep again.
you may starve, girl.
-
My gold balls are devastating.
-
I shall now turn on the TV. I shall do this by hiking up my gown and showing my gams. That always turns on the TV.
Especially with its new bulb in place.
-
Some yokel on a theater chat board (where they've had about twelve posts today), posted that he was blogging the Oscars. I told him to get in line and that the only place to be was here.
-
My gold balls are devastating.
I hope you left a bare patch for "breathing" purposes.
-
I shall now turn on the TV. I shall do this by hiking up my gown and showing my gams. That always turns on the TV.
I'm sure it will be all aglow....at least the bulb should be
-
Will we never get to page twenty?
More quickly than you think.
-
Adriana would love to join us, but she tells me her computer is on the fritz.
-
Is a necktie now proper formal wear?
-
Will we never get to page twenty?
In a minute. All we'll need is something so sublimely ridiculous...
-
Yes, I have the feeling all records will be broken, shattered, and beaten, not necessarily in that order.
-
How does the fritz feel about that?
-
It was hard to catch up - when I left we had nine pages, when I returned it was seventeen.
-
...I predict someone will win an Oscar this evening.
-
Celine Dion looked kind of frumpy.
-
I also predict we will have at least one overlong acceptance speech from someone winning a "non-glamorous" award....and that someone we would LOVE to hear say more will be played off by tonight's "stickman".
-
I just had a good laugh (as I'm hearing the soundtrack from the TV in the kitchen).....I just realized that Jay's voice is higher and more delicate than Juliana's.
And the funny thing is - who the hell are these people. I really liked it when you actually had to have talent, and accomplish something outstanding to become famous and well-known.
-
EEK! I think Kirsten is our first head to toe mistake. Wow!
-
DOn't like Kristen Dunst's hair.
-
I think they should have nominees for the Jean Hersholt award.
-
My cat just rolled over.
-
Could not get on last night for some odd reason...
Will check in from time to time tonight but I do work!
-
I just had a good laugh (as I'm hearing the soundtrack from the TV in the kitchen).....I just realized that Jay's voice is higher and more delicate than Juliana's.
And the funny thing is - who the hell are these people. I really liked it when you actually had to have talent, and accomplish something outstanding to become famous and well-known.
Those days are long gone, my friend.
-
I shall now turn on the TV. I shall do this by hiking up my gown and showing my gams. That always turns on the TV.
OH.... for a "live video feed" from the Kimmel living room!....
" Roger, let's face it... that dress is YOU !"
-
Well, pat my po-po....a new page!
-
Could not get on last night for some odd reason...
Will check in from time to time tonight but I do work!
Tsk!
-
Beyonce has crabs!
-
I think they should have nominees for the Jean Hersholt award.
And I think they should have a Jean Harlow award presented each year by Carroll Baker and Carol Lynley. ;D
-
Bouncy looks nice.
-
The announcer on Channel seven just said "Esculated"
-
I'm watching Barbara Walters Special segment on Helen Mirren. It's very good
-
ESCULATED
-
Mark Wahlberg hasn't shown up yet. ALERT THE MEDIA
-
Carroll who?
Carol who?
;D
-
Well, pat my po-po....a new page!
Is that another Carol Burnett pull on the ear thing?
-
The announcers are sickening - do they just hire the supidest people?
-
ESCULATED!
-
Eddie looks good and his wife has on a nice dress....hope she is not a tranny.
-
Helen Mirren never wears never wears trousers or shorts because she thinks she has a big bottom
-
I've just discovered that beads are back.
-
Carroll who?
Carol who?
;D
How quickly we forget.....40 million fans have given her the brush. ;D
-
Beyonce - a vision in vomit green
-
Gwyneth Paltrow was just shown. She is very pretty, but her dress looked a lot like a lighter colored Morticia Adams creation.
-
Helen Mirren never wears never wears trousers or shorts because she thinks she has a big bottom
What the hell? What are you saying? What....oh...oh...HAS a big bottom. Oh....never mind. 8)
-
I love Alan Arkin... he was not amused by Ryan S.
-
ESCULATED!
-
Where's Jessica Alba?
-
Beyonce....maybe prettier without the grapes.
-
What the hell is ESCULATED..... is that even a word??
-
What the hell? What are you saying? What....oh...oh...HAS a big bottom. Oh....never mind. 8)
I suppose I should add that she only wears skirts
-
Clint is enduring the idiot.
-
Don't like Gwyneth's dress so much.
-
What the hell is ESCULATED..... is that even a word??
He meant escalated.
-
DH Richard and I have had our dinner, which was yummy if I do say so myself.
Watching Barbara Walters with Helen Mirren - finally people who can speak in complete sentences!
-
Gwyneth Paltrow had a cute cameo in INFAMOUS (the other Truman Capote movie)
-
Alan Arkin has had a sour expression on his face since he got out of his limo.
-
Go know !
-
There's another HOUR of pre-show???
-
I could also die happy and peaceful, if I never heard the phrase "who are you wearing?" again !!
-
ESCULATED!
-
Beyonce said "my cast."
-
I do like to know the designers so to each his own.
-
The Nicole Who Came Gift Wrapped.
-
A sheer black number.
-
Oh I like Cate Blanchett's dress and hair....
Oh...she is pretty funny....
-
There's another HOUR of pre-show???
The official ABC Road to the Oscars 2007 starts in about 20 minutes, the Oscars start at the bottom of the next hour
-
CAte looks very elegant, and her gown is very unusual and pretty.
-
Ryan just said.... "what color would you say that is?" All I could think of was Clairie in Steel Magnolias, in the locker room. "Aubergine!"
-
I've planned my entire day on the assumption that Grease starts at 7pm EST and the Oscars at 7:30. At 7, it finally became clear to me that I was an hour off!
-
Celine is also in vomit green.
-
Queen Latifah....hmmmmm
-
The coverage is inept.
-
45 minutes more.
-
I think records will be shattered. Not only records, but CDs and DVDs, too. Maybe even cassettes.
-
Will we never get to page twenty-two?
-
But dear Grande Mensch, how can there be much to really talk about and fill the time when there are so few genuine movie stars with talent, charisma, glamour, mystery, etc..
-
So far I have seen no gown to match mine own.
-
I like the Ellen AmEx featurette.
-
Unusual names are an interest of mine. I collect them. So feel free to send them my way!
I went to college with a girl named April May June
-
Queen Latifah has had a makeover - she may as well change her name now, since she no longer resembles anyone named Queen Latifah.
-
Greg Kinnear's wife looked pretty.
-
But dear Grande Mensch, how can there be much to really talk about and fill the time when there are so few genuine movie stars with talent, charisma, glamour, mystery, etc..
As in life, we do the best with what we have. What alternative is there?
-
I'm watching a feature on M&M's World in Vegas on the Food Network. Now that's glamour!
-
Didn't Sandra Bullock just make this same movie?
-
And one for M&M
-
I have just popped a yummy looking 4-cheese pizza into the oven, and in 17 minutes I shall eat and revel and drool and enjoy.
-
Vixdad does not watch the Oscars... If I want to I must relinguish the computer for his use.... so oce again I will not be joining the partay
-
I'm back - I totally forgot how early this pre-show crap starts. What time do the actual Oscars begin?
Eight-thirty.
Oh, wait, that's here on the Right Coast. Subtract three hours for the Left Coast.
;)
-
I thought Greg looked very pretty. He often doesn't look that great in his films. He has very pronounced eye bags.
-
MR BK what is the feeling in LaLa Land about Dreamgirls? Does it have the momentum to take the awards? Or is it going to be another COLOR PURPLE?
-
I have been to M&M World in Las Vegas, FJL. Twice. Four floors of M&M memorabilia. And I actually stood in line to purchase M&M junk.
-
Ryan Gosling is one of the youngest Oscar nominees in HISTORY? What about Hayley Joel Osment, Patty Duke, Mary Badham, and many, many others? Is this guy a MONGOLOID?
-
Didn't Sandra Bullock just make this same movie?
They just change the title page and pass it around from soundstage to soundstage....
next year a Lifetime movie with Tori Spelling. 8)
-
Queen Latifah has had a makeover - she may as well change her name now, since she no longer resembles anyone named Queen Latifah.
She's already put out The Dana Owens Album (her actual name.)
-
I think people got very weary of Dreamworks and Paramount's relentless shoving of the film down everyone's throats. I don't think it's the shoo in for certain wins that everyone else thinks it is, but we'll have to see.
-
Didn't Sandra Bullock just make this same movie?
Variation on a theme, maybe?
-
Eddie is looking good.
Nicole Kidman is being attack by a Big RED BEE!
Don't like Kate Winslet's dress much.
-
As in life, we do the best with what we have. What alternative is there?
I know Matt - but I can remember when the Oscars really was glamorous, exciting, and fun event for which to throw a party. I almost feel like I'm gonna have to tear up my gay-card, for not loving the ceremony anymore.
-
Dinner tonight -
French Onion Soup (leftovers from earlier in the week)
Steak, Medium-Rare
Roasted Beets in Butter (which I remembered to get this time - der B's breakfast tomorrow will not be butterless)
Three-Cheese Tortellini with Pesto
-
No one will even TALK to these ABC yokels.
-
Ryan Gosling is one of the youngest Oscar nominees in HISTORY? What about Hayley Joel Osment, Patty Duke, Mary Badham, and many, many others? Is this guy a MONGOLOID?
Maybe he meant in the Best Actor category. Only Jackie Cooper was younger.
-
Martin Scorsese has not arrived - ALERT THE MEDIA
-
Laura, did you also visit the World of Coke? We got half price tickets there when we were last in Vegas a few years ago.
-
My favorite inane comment so far was the chickies on E! talking about Kate Winslet's long marriage - 5 whole years!
-
Reese - nice dress.....bad hair.
-
I don't like Reese Withersponn's hair.
-
I know Matt - but I can remember when the Oscars really was glamorous, exciting, and fun event for which to throw a party. I almost feel like I'm gonna have to tear up my gay-card, for not loving the ceremony anymore.
Yes, I'll just say the following: Ingrid Bergman, Grace Kelly, Bette Davis, Joan Crawford - then I'll say Cate Blanchett, Gwynneth Paltrow, Kate Winslet, etc.
You tell me.
-
My favorite inane comment so far was the chickies on E! talking about Kate Winslet's long marriage - 5 whole years!
And they said it wouldn't last. ;D
-
The woman from Babel is babeling.
-
Meryl looks a little frumpy tonight.
-
Meryl's jewelry has to be her own
-
We're seeing trends with gowns, trends with jewelry.
-
What IS that thing around Meryl's neck?
-
Even if his hair is pasted down too flat, and he has beard stubble... Toby McGuire can park his Spidey costume under my bed any day.
(unless of course, boo-key is getting his suitcase ready for our trip to Europe) :)
-
Very hard Oscar trivia questions.
-
And one for Meryl
-
I like Anne Hathaway's black/white dress.
-
Really STUUUUPID idea of the year award goes to the TV talking-head that suggested that tonight's award show should contain a tribute to Anna Nicole Smith!
der Brucer
LOL. DERBRUCER, I couldn't agree with you more.
-
With that outfit and jewelry, Meryl needed a tan to set off what she was wearing.
-
What IS that thing around Meryl's neck?
We sell that same necklace at Ye Olde World of Wisdom. 8)
-
I like Anne Hathaway... I think she very often looks classy and elegant, without being glitzy or trashy.
And, I know glitzy and trashy ... (reference my earlier photo today)
-
Very hard Oscar trivia questions.
Ask away! ;D
-
We sell that same necklace at Ye Olde World of Wisdom. 8)
I knew I'd seen it somewhere before!
-
Which Oscar nominated actress has played wife or girlfriend to James Dean, Clark Gable, and Jack Nicholson?
-
I could also die happy and peaceful, if I never heard the phrase "who are you wearing?" again !!
The phrase "who are you wearing" should be limited to those wearing flesh-colored gowns.
-
FJL, yes. I have been to World of Coke. Two floors of coke memorabilia. And I actually stood in line to buy coke junk.
And it was free to get in (it is a store). Maybe you had tickets to ride the elevator -- the largest coke bottle in the world.
-
My mind is numb and the show doesn't even begin for thirty-five minutes.
-
So, there's another half-hour of something.
-
So much craziness on the red carpet - ah, it was Roeper, for God's sake. I should have known. The biggest peckerhead in show business.
-
EEEEEK ..... I just realized that I will stop and eat my dinner in a few minutes. When I get back, I'll probably be too far behind to catch up.
Oy !
-
I will watch 1/2 hour of TAR then THE OSCARS!!!
-
Clive Owen looks casual but gorgeous.
-
Commercial.
-
So much craziness on the red carpet - ah, it was Roeper, for God's sake. I should have known. The biggest peckerhead in show business.
And the competition is fierce from what I hear. 8)
-
You have to eat your dinner in front of the computer.
-
LOVE CLIVE OWEN.
-
No answers to my Oscar Trivia question.
-
So much craziness on the red carpet - ah, it was Roeper, for God's sake. I should have known. The biggest peckerhead in show business.
I love it !! peckerhead has to be one of the greatest "redneck straight guy" terms in the world. That's why it's so funny coming from a writer in a gown....
-
I am looking at some of the fashion photos on my local newspaper's website. Melissa Rivers looks like a black mermaid.
-
A gown with gold balls, baby.
-
Will we never get to page twenty-four?
-
Natalie Wood
-
What's amusing is we're close to seven hundred postings BEFORE the four-hour show has begun.
-
So, what happens for the next half-hour?
-
And I certainly didn't mean to give short shrift to the lovely gold balls on the gown of BK
-
Turning to ABC to see whatever Road to the Oscars is...at least I can look for 79s
-
I've flipped over to GREASE for 30 minutes.
-
OK, I'm off to the Grease thing for a while.
-
Natalie Wood
Good guess but no.
-
FJL, yes. I have been to World of Coke. Two floors of coke memorabilia. And I actually stood in line to buy coke junk.
It wasn't junk and you know it!
-
So it is written, so it shall be done.
-
I think it's only the girls tonight on GREASE.
-
Good guess but no.
Julie Harris?
-
I think it's only the girls tonight on GREASE.
Biological girls? :o
-
Leonardo diCaprio is on.
-
Julie Harris?
Another good guess, but no.
-
I think it's only the girls tonight on GREASE.
Or "Broadway Babes," according to Billy
-
My cat has rolled over again. ALERT THE MEDIA.
-
Mumble looks great in his tux...
-
Wasn't King Leonardo a cartoon character on TV?
-
It would be nice to have advice from someone who actually cooks!
I don't think there are many of them about anymore.
-
TAR!!!
-
Leonardo diCaprio is on.
Leonardo diCaprio is on what?
-
I just turned to ABC.......it was either that, or put an icepick through my eardrum, listening to "E!".
-
Well, I've just given the award for most beautiful woman who looks totally ugly: Naomi Watts - ugly dress, ugly hair, frowsy-looking, and someone needs to tell her to get new people to do her.
-
I've been informed that the Hollywood set is arriving in luxurious hybrid cars. Pass me the vomit bucket.
-
Getting ready to find out which Dannys and Sandys are in the bottom four - after the break.
-
OMG I just saw Jennifer Hudson's jacket for the first time....What was she thinking???
-
Here's another view of the house, you can see where the garage used to be and how they have built up a berm. There is a little sunken patio down there. You still can't see the garage, but you can see the livingroom windows
Cilla, your house looks likes something out of currier and ives
-
I love my hybrid, but it ain't a Rolls silver cloud I !
-
I gotta tell you - I cannot get over how the gorgeous Naomi Watts looks like some frumpy thing.
-
WOW!!!!!
I leave for two hours.. and 14+ pages of posts?!?!?!?!
WOW!
-
Der Brucer: Jennifer Hudson looks like she's trying for a role in Star Wars.
S Woody: No, she's going for a female Ming the Merciless!
-
I'm not even sure I'll be able to catch up at this point.
-
I gotta tell you
-
Yes, we weren't thrilled with that jacket.
-
There's my baby-Jose !!
YEAH !!!!!!
-
The hype is ear-shattering - the worst I've ever heard or seen.
-
DR Sandra, are you going with me tonight?
-
James Dean's girlfriend/fiance in GIANT
Clark Gable's girlfriend in BUT NOT FOR ME
Jack Nicholson's wife in IRONWEED
Ladies and gentlemen, Miss Carroll Baker
-
I'm not even sure I'll be able to catch up at this point.
I wouldn't try. Just jump in.
-
There's Patricia Field...she's a friend of my friend Paul
-
Twenty-five and twenty minutes to the show's start.
-
Didja bring us some cookies, DR Jose?
-
I've been informed that the Hollywood set is arriving in luxurious hybrid cars. Pass me the vomit bucket.
Why would a set be arriving at this late hour? It should have been up days ago, so the presenters could rehearse!
-
However....
Having just come from Times Square... I have to say, Times Square in the falling snow... Now that's New York!
:)
-
Who is the Oscar musical director this year? Who is the choreographer?
-
My God, today's people are the most vapid I've ever heard.
-
Whew, didn't have time to catch up on all of today's posts...so I have now skipped ahead...
....and the lady on TV sure does like red!!!
-
James Dean's girlfriend/fiance in GIANT
Clark Gable's girlfriend in BUT NOT FOR ME
Jack Nicholson's wife in IRONWEED
Ladies and gentlemen, Miss Carroll Baker
She did get an Oscar nomination once upon a time. I had forgotten, to be honest. BABY DOLL.
-
Wow! Patricia Field (I think that's her name) is totally in bright, bright red...her hair is the same color as her dress! :o
-
Why would a set be arriving at this late hour? It should have been up days ago, so the presenters could rehearse!
Must be a union thing. :D
-
I believe composer William Ross is conducting this year.
-
I'm not even sure I'll be able to catch up at this point.
Blame Princess Kennedy.
-
She did get an Oscar nomination once upon a time. I had forgotten, to be honest. BABY DOLL.
Yup!
-
I have seen four of the oscar nominated movies this year: Dreamgirls, Devil wears Prada, Water and The Queen
-
Well, I'm actually DVR-ing the Oscar pre-show, and watching "Grease..." for now. So...
But I think I shall attempt to catch up on some posts now... And use tabbed browsing to help accomplish that.
-
I believe composer William Ross is conducting this year.
Thanks.
-
The ONLY clip they keep showing is from Dreamgirls. I wonder how much Dreamworks paid ABC for that. And let me tell you - they paid.
-
We are mooooooving right along at a frenetic pace!
-
I gotta tell you
-
Where is DR MBARNUM?
-
I believe that my Hollywood hotel is just one block over from all of this red carpet excitement...I wonder it John Abraham is staying there? I hope someone interviews him.
-
Where is DR CHARLES POGUE?
-
The commercial time far outnumbers the actual time devoted to the red carpet.
-
There he is!!!
Where is DR JMK?
-
Whew, didn't have time to catch up on all of today's posts...so I have now skipped ahead...
....and the lady on TV sure does like red!!!
That's Patricia Field. She's nominated for costumes for The Devil Wears Prada. She did the costumes for Sex in the City. Paul did a mural in her store in New York
-
GREASE results
Low Dannys: Chad and Kevin
Low Sandys: Kate and Kathleen
-
Beautiful pictures Cilla...
WE also got some snow in FArgo. About 4 inches.
-
Pogue hasn't been with us for weeks - he's rehearsing for his show.
-
The ONLY clip they keep showing is from Dreamgirls. I wonder how much Dreamworks paid ABC for that. And let me tell you - they paid.
But will it pay off?? ;)
-
Well, I'm actually DVR-ing the Oscar pre-show, and watching "Grease..." for now. So...
But I think I shall attempt to catch up on some posts now... And use tabbed browsing to help accomplish that.
I just learned to use tabbed browsing myself - love it!
-
DR Sandra, are you going with me tonight?
It depends. I don't think this cat is waking up any time soon.
-
But will it pay off?? ;)
Part of me really wants that kind of pandering to backfire - not sure it will, but it deserves to. Also, those three Dreamgirls songs are dreck.
-
They're showing acting scenes on GREASE.
-
Acting scenes/Grease = oxymoron
-
Penelope Cruz looks nice - simple.
-
Fifteen minutes to showtime.
-
I like Penelope Cruz
-
I gotta tell you.
-
Well, I'm taking BK's advice, and eating at my desk so I can keep reading the posts. I can't see the TV, but I hear the audio, so it is like the Oscars on the radio.
-
I do want to see that Will Smith movie.
-
Ashley is doing "These Boots Are Made for Walkin'" She doesn't have the low notes.
-
I wearing dark green slacks, dark brown shirt and a tan/green jumper sweater... Cold in the library tonight.
-
Only four GUESTS. Apparently, the other GUESTS think there's something better to do. Hah!
-
Cameron Diaz, I have just been informed, is one of Hollywood's most beloved actresses. I gotta tell you. Certainly she's one of the stupidest.
-
I like Penelope Cruz
That's one of you. :P
-
I do want to see that Will Smith movie.
That makes one of you. :P
-
Did that guy just say that Cameron Diaz's pom poms were ready?
-
I forgot... I also saw Jesus Camp!!
-
DR JOSE - I think you're stuck inside now....it is ZERO HOUR
Nope. I actually was able to accomplish some errands in the past two hours...
And, yes, that did include a trip down to 74th Street to Levain...
Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip
SOOOooo GOOOOOD!!!!
-
Flight delay just played havoc on TAR....haahahahahahahah.
-
Love your flan, EDI.
-
Oy, I'm getting nauseous. I had shrimp scampi for dinner - it was yummilicious.
-
I'll be having popcorn later.
-
I gotta tell you
-
Yes next year they will give the Cameron Diaz Humanitarian Award.
-
Ya know Catherine Deneuve gets more and more beautiful. Nice dress too.
a timeless beauty...
-
26 pages already!!! I'll never catch up. I admit it, I don't plan on hanging around for the entire bash. I will watch Ellen's opening and then we will call it quits for the Oscars. Since we have dial-up it's not easy to keep the computer logged on while a show is broadcasting. Also, the computer is in one room and the television is in another.
I'll start catching up tomorrow morning when I get to work. 26 pages and over 720 posts! What will I find tomorrow??? Only time will tell.
Bye!
P.S. It is snowing here now at 8:15pm. It's supposed to turn to freezing rain. We will see at 6am.
-
The Oscars have always overdone everything, but tonight takes the cake.
-
Did that guy just say that Cameron Diaz's pom poms were ready?
LOL., I didn't really think about it but, yes, I think that's waht he said
-
I forgot... I also saw Jesus Camp!!
Jesus doesn't camp..... he may wander around with 12 other guys, and have very long hair.. but he doesn't camp.
-
These guys make Army Archerd look like H.L. Menken
-
I'm not a Penelope fan, but her hair and dress were pretties at the Golden Globes.
-
I don't know what that means, but I like the sound of it.
-
I gotta tell you
-
Stupid Question by Joan Rivers....."When did you first realize that you are beautiful?"
Joan irks me....
-
How come none of these young guy whippersnappers know how to shave?
-
I don't know who most of these people are, but I hope the Japanese lady wins.
-
I gotta tell you
Bob Hope lives!!!
-
How come none of these young guy whippersnappers know how to shave?
It's the look of the month.
-
There's still ten more minutes of this crap. Then the REAL crap begins. Hoo and ray.
-
Well, I'm going to get ready to go. Come if you want, Mouse.
-
I also like Ellen... she is a hoot!
-
I'm tired and the show is going to be FOUR HOURS?
-
How come none of these young guy whippersnappers know how to shave?
I agree with ya, BK. I hate that look. Especially for such a formal occasion.
-
Good grief!!! Is there a par-tay going on here?
-
Actually, I think that's the Academy's way of protecting themselves - it will probably not stretch that long, but this way they've covered themselves.
-
Allie and Max are a couple offstage. Who knew?
-
I gotta tell you
-
Too many commercials.

I don't know who most of these people are, but I hope the Japanese lady wins.
God I love you Michael.... you have no pretense or guile, and you are just honest! What a rare thing today.
(And, it doesn't matter "who you are wearing")
-
Allie and Max are a couple offstage. Who knew?
Who are Allie and Max?
-
We are on page 27 and the show has yet to begin
-
Make that 28
-
Eighteen users and six GUESTS. Not bad.
-
Helen Mirren never wears never wears trousers or shorts because she thinks she has a big bottom
I have read that also. She is a classy actress. I have always liked her.
-
I do like Mark Wahlberg
-
Mark Wahlberg has arrived. What a skank.
-
Time for a bathroom break and more diet Pepsi. :)
-
28 now! I am playing catchup! I am on page 20
-
Allie sings "What's the Use," and she was good.
-
Well, at least we can have a brief respite from typing once the show begins.
-
CAte looks very elegant, and her gown is very unusual and pretty.
I just looked at a picture of her dress. It is beautiful.
-
Oh, Lord, these hosts are excruciating.
-
This cannot end soon enough.
-
I gotta tell you
-
Kate Winslet has received five Oscar nominations. How DID that happen?
-
Observations....
John Travolta's hair is definitely all his...... he paid for it several times.
Ryan Seacrest just needs to get laid in a leather bar !
Well... Maybe Mr. Travolta and Mr. Seacrest need to meet in same bar.
;)
-
Am I correct, that ABC is the correct network for the actual Oscar ceremony broadcast??
-
Is that how low we've sunk?
-
Hey, the ABC pre-show is in high definition! I don't think it has been before.
-
Five minutes to showtime.
-
Helen Mirren has arrived - ALERT THE MEDIA
-
Well... Maybe Mr. Travolta and Mr. Seacrest need to meet in same bar.
;)
Don's even get me started about Travolta, and his masseur in San Diego (whom I know).
-
Oh, please, let the show begin!
-
Kate Winslet has received five Oscar nominations. How DID that happen?
By age 31, the first one ever to do that. Meryl was 34 when she got her 5th.
-
Exquisite dresssssssssses, someone just said - someone who should avoid words with "s" in them.
-
Am I correct, that ABC is the correct network for the actual Oscar ceremony broadcast??
yes.
-
I will go into the kitchen, and watch the opening part with Ellen.......
-
I gotta tell you.
-
Show's about to begin.
-
Very exciting.
-
Don's even get me started about Travolta, and his masseur in San Diego (whom I know).
Enquiring minds must know. ;D
-
At least Ellen will probably be amusing - or not.
-
Show time....bring on the empty horses!!!
-
Oh Wow! I just discovered that the schools here are starting 2 hours late tomorrow. We get admin leave and start late if they start late....Now I can stay up for the whole show!
-
Twenty-nine pages and the show is just beginning!
-
Don's even get me started about Travolta, and his masseur in San Diego (whom I know).
Don's hold back! Spill the dirt!! ;)
-
I'm gonna party-poop for a bit here - have to get dinner on the table, and the kitchen is way too far away from the computer.
-
Laura - We got our half-price tickets to the show at the Riviera, but I think the half-price booth was at the World of coke.
-
845 posts going into the show.
-
Allie sings "What's the Use," and she was good.
"What's the Use" from Candide? But who's Max??
-
See you on the first commercial break.
-
Well... The program is starting, and I have six pages still to catch up on, so...
AAAGGGHHHH!!!!
-
Clint got some beady eyes goin' there.
-
Rex is awake and pouncing on everything in sight. Including my leg. He is just asking to be declawed.
-
I'm watching Barbara Walters....Ellen Degeneres just thanked God...didn't hear for what, I just tuned in. Sheesh!
I caught a few minutes of that, too, CILLALIZ. BW said, "If you could talk to God what would you say?" And ED said she'd say thank you because she is so blessed.
That was my big contribution for the evening.
-
A hula hula hope.. love that
-
not a great introductory segment.
-
As for youngest actor....
That was one of the trivia questions during the Oscar Fest yesterday...
Who was the youngest actor to win an Oscar? (Lead or Supporting)
And who was the youngest actress to win? -Which was the easier question to answer.
-
I like this filmed opening
-
not a great introductory segment.
Horseracing. I liked the opening sequence. :)
-
Had to be here for the greatest Oscar Party I know of!
-
Rex is off my lap and taking a bath elsewhere on the futon. I'm going to go get some ice cream now (alas, no floop). He will probably be taking up the entire futon when I get back, just you watch.
-
As for youngest actor....
That was one of the trivia questions during the Oscar Fest yesterday...
Who was the youngest actor to win an Oscar? (Lead or Supporting)
Youngest actress was Tatum O'
Neal
Youngest actor - Adrien Brody?
And who was the youngest actress to win? -Which was the easier question to answer.
-
Here's Ellen! In a velour suit...is that spelled correctly?? Velour?
-
WHEW!
Caught up!
Thank God ;) for those speed-reading classes in high school.
-
I love Ellen's opening outfit -- I think I wore that same thing for concerts in the 70s
-
Reading posts like crazy and I'm still ten pages behind!
-
Was I right?
Tatum O
'Neal
and Adrien Brody?
-
DR MattH - Youngest Actor winner was Timothy Hutton for "Ordinary People" - Supporting Actor category. He was 19.
-
Ellen looks nice....and she's funny!
-
I love Ellen's opening outfit -- I think I wore that same thing for concerts in the 70s
I like the color. :)
-
Hurray it's DR RODZINSKI!!
-
Ellen kinda made it seem that Penelope Cruz was Mexican for a little bit there.
-
GREASE results
Low Dannys: Chad and Kevin
Low Sandys: Kate and Kathleen
And what awful drag is Ms Marshall wearing this evening? Another frock from FrumpsRUs?
-
More Oscar Trivia from yesterday....
Which Actor (Lead or Supporting) won an Oscar for the least amount of time on screen?
Which Actress?
-
I would guess that Ellen's outfit is actually velvet.
-
More Oscar Trivia from yesterday....
Which Actor (Lead or Supporting) won an Oscar for the least amount of time on screen?
Which Actress?
Actress - Beatrice Straight
Actor - Anthony Hopkins?
-
Hurray it's DR RODZINSKI!!
Yeah!! Good to see you JRand!
-
Loved the Jennifer Hudson/Al Gore joke
-
Jennifer Hudson is no longer wearing the jacket. Much better.
-
Actress - Beatrice Straight
Actor - Anthony Hopkins?
Actor - Anthony Hopkins ("Silence of the Lambs")
Actress - Dame Judi Dench ("Shakespeare in Love")
-
I went to college with a girl named April May June
Oh, my God! Poor girl.
-
Loved the Jennifer Hudson/Al Gore joke
Very funny!
-
Loved the Jennifer Hudson/Al Gore joke
me, too!
-
Loving Ellen
-
I'm back and I'm eating ice cream.
-
I don't think Straight was one for eight minutes and Dench was on for 8.
-
Gospel singing first misstep of the evening for me....
-
Velour...velvet, what's the diff??
-
First Award!!!
-
That was funny
-
Nicole's dress is hideous!!! IMHO
-
I heard the order of the nominations were going to be in a different order, looks like that was right
-
"Dreamgwirls"??
;)
-
Velour...velvet, what's the diff??
A couple of thousand dollars
-
I think Pan'S LABYRINTH for this.
-
It's in the pan!
-
I don't think Straight was one for eight minutes and Dench was on for 8.
Well, they said it was Judi yesterday, so.. that's the answer that one the trivia contest. ???
-
I really do like the sound of the orchestra, and the orchestrating so far; Lots of big harp glisses, lots of strings, and french horns. Very "Hollywood" sounding, in the good sense of the word.
-
So.... Are we not worrying about SPOILERS for the West Coast?
-
I correctly guessed the first award!! ;D
-
Ellen, hit and miss. Gospel number - horrifying. Nicole Kidman - more horrifying - her lips are beyond belief.
-
Actually, this is sort of "good"... getting all these technical awards out of the way early. I think.
-
It's live there, Jose.
-
I personally found Pan's Labyrinth to be vile and depressing.
-
Pan's Labrynth - I'm one for one - Dreamgirls backfire number one.
-
So.... Are we not worrying about SPOILERS for the West Coast?
It's not delayed for the West Coast. ;D
-
So.... Are we not worrying about SPOILERS for the West Coast?
It's live
-
What happened to supporting actor?
-
That's traditionally how they always begin.
-
So.... Are we not worrying about SPOILERS for the West Coast?
Oh, OK.
-
I cannot get over how awful Nicole Kidman looked.
-
BK, I read they are changing the order this year. Don't know why, but they are. Something about trying to get people to watch more than just the beginning of the show
-
I gotta tell you
-
I read somewhere the acting awards are coming last. All the DREAMGIRLS folks are singing the songs, so I guess they wanted them to perform before their categories came up.
-
Nicole and Naomi - they obviously had the same advice.
-
And it wasn't good advice.
-
Gospel singing first misstep of the evening for me....
Oh God, and see Jack, I'm just the opposite. I'm a real sucker for good black gospel choir sound. I think I was Edwin Hawkins in a previous life.
Horse racing...... :)
-
BK, I read they are changing the order this year. Don't know why, but they are. Something about trying to get people to watch more than just the beginning of the show
Maybe, they're waiting for everyone to switch over from "Grease..."
;D
-
Commercial breaks are already stultifying.
-
Is this Judy singing Irving Berlin?
-
Judy Garland is on a commercial? Who knew.
-
Back in a mo.
-
Judy's singing "What'll I Do?"
-
Am I the only one here who's not watching the Oscars?
-
I hear ya DR MUSIC GUY.
Second misstep.....Will Ferrell....how dumb is this routine?
-
Will Farrell with Marc Shaiman playing piano. Now there's Jack Black. Funny!
-
Marc Shaiman playing.
-
I hear ya DR MUSIC GUY.
Second misstep.....Will Ferrell....how dumb is this routine?
Give it time.
-
I've never been able to see any humor in either Will Ferrel, or Jack Black. They both turn me off like mad.
-
Sorry DR JOSE - still hating it.
-
Holy smokes - this comedy thing is bad.
-
No wonder the show is going to be four hours long.
-
Lead poisoning = not funny.
-
This goes into the Oscar bad stuff history book.
-
WOnderful funny routine. John C. Reilly has a fine voice.
-
Next!
-
And they LOVE it!
-
Another win for PAN'S LABYRINTH, I predict.
-
Two for Pan!
-
Two for two - makeup.
-
I should have done one of these polls.
-
Just ordered pizza...
Just thought you'd like to know that.
-
I guessed that one correctly, too!
-
I thought the sequence was unfunny but mostly unnecessary.
-
I need to review who I predicted.
-
Will we never get to page thirty-three?
-
They're already cutting speeches off.
-
Poor Sugar (my puppy) can't figure out why I keep walking back and forth from the desk to the kitchen.
-
Just ordered pizza...
Just thought you'd like to know that.
Was there a deal on PAN pizza?
-
Must be nice to have a father in the biz who can get you work.
-
Kids are so cute!!!
Bleah!
-
Poor Sugar (my puppy) can't figure out why I keep walking back and forth from the desk to the kitchen.
Oh, pet Sugar for me!
-
I think we're about to see Steffen Vletch win an award.....
-
I predicted that Jose would order pizza. Do i get any points for that?
-
The Danish Poet! I have no clew.
-
Winner looks sweet.....the film that is.
-
The two youngsters were the first really funny and real thing on the show.
-
Could have done without at least ONE of those rugrats.
-
Oh, had they said the National Film Board of Canada, I would have guessed. It's always them
-
Danish is always sweet. especially cheese danish.
-
The Danish Poet! I have no clew.
I didn't get that one. :(
;)
-
I've actually seen a couple of the Animated Short features this year... I thought "Little Match Girl" was going to get it.
-
WEST BANK STORY looked like fun.
-
Ohmygod... A Hassidic West Side Story.....are you sure you didn't work on this BK ??
-
Score! I knew if a short didn't have impaired people it would be the Jews.
-
Could the kid really not read the words "West Bank Story"?
-
West Bank Story looks Bollywood!!
-
I thought "Little Match Girl" was going to get it.
So did Joshie.
-
He's CUTE!!!
-
I got that one!
-
He's CUTE!!!
You got that right! ;D
-
I have to admit I didn't hate the Will Ferrell thing.
-
Jews and the National Film Board of Canada - never fails.
I'm going to say I've gotten everything correct because had I seen or heard National Film Board of Canada that would have been my choice.
-
Or someone named Oscar!
And no he couldn't read it, DR RODZINSKI - there are more important things in life than skul!!
-
He's CUTE!!!
I agree. Totally adorable.
-
I have to admit I didn't hate the Will Ferrell thing.
You will by the time midnight rolls around and it's not over yet.
Forty minutes in and NO acting awards yet!! :P
-
Yes, this withholding of a major award for so long is BAD.
-
I have to admit I didn't hate the Will Ferrell thing.
I liked it. A lot.
-
Will we never get to page forty-three?
-
Some liked it, some didn't. Horse racing. I thought it was forced and unfunny, but I do like Jack Black.
-
I gotta tell you
-
Enough with these infernal commercials.
-
Will we never get to page forty-three?
I think we shall.
-
We're already close to 1000 postings. Amazing!
-
Still commercials???
-
Back in a mo.
-
Not Jack Conti this year!
-
Records shall be shattered...
-
Judi Dench's boobs joke.
-
Uh - oh.
I think this is going to rip off some old Steve Allen material.
-
At this rate, I'm not gonna see any acting awards presented - I have to get up at 6am tomorrow and they'll just be getting around to them by them by then.
-
Four hours, baby. What IS this thing they're doing???
-
YIKES! - I think there the server must be getting bogged down... Coming up very slowly.
-
No wonder the show is running four hours!
-
This isn't sound FX this is Foley. And it's wasting MY time.
-
oh yeah--this is really reading well on TV.
-
Not Jack Conti this year!
Bill Conti.
-
Man candy....
-
Four hours, baby. What IS this thing they're doing???
It's like that car commercial a few years ago.
Well, I liked it.
-
Sound editing! Oh, boy! Can't wait!
-
Old Red Skelton joke!
-
I'll guess PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN.
-
I LOVED the sound effects choir. Pretty amazing stuff.
And I agree about the comment earlier, about Greg Kinnear's eyes. Looking awfully haggered for some reason??
-
Letters From Iwo Jima - sound editing!!!
-
Stroll on down and get it, buddy. No hurry. We got all night.
-
Bill COnti! Can't beieve I wrote Jack.
-
But it was FOLEY.....isn't there a difference?
-
I don't think I've had one correct prediction so far.
-
I gotta tell you
-
Bill COnti! Can't beieve I wrote Jack.
Jack is whack! ;D
-
I guessed "FLAGS OF OUR FATHERS."
-
Jack Conti is a tire salesman from Newark.
-
I'm surprised they didn't split the vote between the two Clint films they worked on and were both nominated for.
-
Mix that sound, baby!
-
I'll guess DREAMGIRLS for this.
-
I'm confused..... have i missed an award for an actor of some sort yet ????
-
Jack Conti is a tire salesman from Newark.
Any by Friday, he is a tired salesman. :D
-
Bill Conti.
Tom Conti
-
I'm confused..... have i missed an award for an actor of some sort yet ????
Not yet....even in YOUR time zone! 8)
-
DR MATTH calls it!
-
INdeed and we are only an hour and a half into the awards
-
Get ready to take a drink!
-
I'll guess DREAMGIRLS for this.
Yup! And I guessed this, too!
-
Dreamgirls for sound mixing - I thought the nominees were completely boring.
-
Whatever happened to Tom Conti, anyway?
-
Tom Conti
Carlo Ponti
-
INdeed and we are only an hour and a half into the awards
Are you joking? We're not EVEN an HOUR into the awards.
-
God bless you...take a drink.
-
Not giving an acting award is pathetic.
-
INdeed and we are only an hour and a half into the awards
It jsut seems that way. It started at 8:30.
-
Couldn't sound mixing be awarded like last week?
-
Seems longer.
-
Finally, an acting award!
-
Best Supporting Actor!
-
An acting award!
-
Finally an acting award.
Fingers crossed for Jackie....
-
I'm guessing Jackie Earle Haley...just because.
-
Good choice!!!!!
-
I got it right in my prediction yesterday!
-
AA for AA
-
Dang it, I had that one and changed it at the last minute
-
God was right!
-
An acting award..... 52 minutes into the show!
-
Dreamgirls upset number two
-
Is everyone going to say "I know we're not supossed to read but..." when they accept their award??
-
It jsut seems that way. It started at 8:30.
I thought they started at 7... Or did the opening comments and Jazz last that long
-
Very very very nice acceptance speech.
-
He was excellent, too. Others may have had more "acting" but Arkin was wonderful and has been wonderful for many years. Little Miss Sunshine might just take the big one.
-
Nope, started at 8:30 EST.
-
Arkin, yeah! One of my all-time fave actors.
-
Okay, what is THIS?
-
Shadow stuff is kind of fun and interesting and is over quickly.
-
Commercials - another six minute break.
-
Yay for Alan Arkin!
-
I didn't know that Pilobolus was still around.
-
Cute bit with Ellen and Marty....
Yea we want some dance interps of the nominees....by Pilobolus....I say once again, never have the efforts of so many resulted in the entertainment of so few.
-
Will we never get to page thirty-seven?
-
I'm still full from dinner.
-
I didn't know that Pilobolus was still around.
Still boring after all these years. 8)
-
I gotta tell you
-
I love Alan Arkin.....have for a very long time.
And the Pilobolus troupe is sure unique, but it seems that the audience doesn't quite know what to make of it....
-
I didn't know that Pilobolus was still around.
They've performed here in Olympia several times. I've never seen them, though.
-
So....
Anyone spot any 79s yet?
;)
-
The audience isn't the only one who doesn't know what to make of it - why is it needed and what is the point? Two always-important questions.
-
What's next? Mümmenschanz?
-
There is no way I can keep up with this!!! Enjoy the show!!
-
Will we never get to page thirty-seven?
Sure.
-
The audience isn't the only one who doesn't know what to make of it - why is it needed and what is the point? Two always-important questions.
Good point BK -- but I think your observation applies to a lot of the elemnts so far. And I wish all of the surrounding stuff was really stellar, because I really like Ellen.
-
What's next? Mümmenschanz?
Would you rather have Debbie Allen come back??
;)
-
Randy Newman's 17th nomination
-
Oh, Lord, I feel OOOOOLLLLLDDDDDDD!
-
My choice for Best Song.
-
Shields and Yarnell?
-
Shields and Yarnell?
I loved them! :D
-
Hmm... The Oscars.com site is not updating right now... Hmm... Wonder if it went down?
-
Would you rather have Debbie Allen come back??
;)
That's kind of a tough choice - choosing between rotten apples and rotten bananas. :P
-
By the time I catch up, I'm already far behind.
-
Sound is bad for the CARS song.
-
Hmm... The Oscars.com site is not updating right now... Hmm... Wonder if it went down?
That's how a lot of people get Oscars, they say. :-[
-
Hmm... The Oscars.com site is not updating right now... Hmm... Wonder if it went down?
I've been noticing the same thing.
-
This song seems designed to put people directly to sleep.
-
Oh dear.... I think this was a good example of having the wrong voice for the material... and I like James Taylor on many things. But this was a ballad, with a sustained line...... not pretty with his voice.
-
I didn't know Meryl Streep could play guitar.
-
JRand working blue!
-
Any sound at all was bad for last year's Oscar Winning song, though.
-
That's how a lot of people get Oscars, they say. :-[
:o
;)
-
Hmmm... Cheesy Bread and Pizza
Yum!
*And the pizza toppings for tonight: Pepperoni and Bacon. -Roommates' choice.
-
JRand working blue!
And I'm here all week! ;D
-
I've never heard Melissa's song before. I like it. :)
-
Any sound at all was bad for last year's Oscar Winning song, though.
And what song was that again?
-
This sounds so different from every other Melissa Etheridge song.
-
How nice that Melissa's drummer apparently wore his "good" T-shirt for an Oscar broadcast. Ugh.
-
On the E! pre-show, she said she wrote the song in an hour.
-
Damn, I had predicted mushrooms and bacon for Jose's pizza.
-
Has there ever been a song from a documentary nominated before?
-
Seinfeld face!!
-
I think they should have let Jessica Simpson sing that song! It would have rocked!!
-
Leo has been an environmentalist for a LONG time.
-
If there is any justice, the Newman song will win - the only REAL song in the bunch - simple, to the point, and classic song structure. However, there probably won't be justice. We shall see.
This Al Gore grandstanding is nauseating - not the time, not the place.
-
LOL!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Funny bit, though, being cut off by the orchestra.
-
Hilarious gag with Gore.
-
If there is any justice, the Newman song will win - the only REAL song in the bunch - simple, to the point, and classic song structure. However, there probably won't be justice. We shall see.
This Al Gore grandstanding is nauseating - not the time, not the place.
Unless it has a punchline..... ;D
-
That was pretty cute!
-
A "one time only reunion performance from the cast of Dreamgirls" - is there no depths to which Dreamworks and ABC will not sink?
-
Seventy minutes in and ONE acting award given.
-
Justice... justice...
-
Has there ever been a song from a documentary nominated before?
"More" from MONDO CANE in 1963.
-
Seinfeld face!!
I'm glad I wasn't the only one to see that..... kind of looked like the "bitter beer" guy!
-
A "one time only reunion performance from the cast of Dreamgirls" - is there no depths to which Dreamworks and ABC will not sink?
Unless one has a fatal illness isn't that a bit premature? ::)
-
LOL MUSIC GUY - I though maybe Newman was in the audience.
-
Which Ben and Jerry's ice cream for dessert - Vermonty Python or Chubby Hubby?
-
Welcome thirteen GUESTS!
-
A "one time only reunion performance from the cast of Dreamgirls" - is there no depths to which Dreamworks and ABC will not sink?
Well.. Since Ms. Knowles keeps bitching about Ms. Hudson to her coterie...
-
About 35 posts to become the second highest posting day...and 105 to become #1!!
-
I think that there is now no doubt that we will be shattering all old records, cassettes, CDs, and DVDs. At six-forty we are only 100 posts from the new record. Amazing!
-
The show has hours to go. We'll easily beat the record.
-
Which Ben and Jerry's ice cream for dessert - Vermonty Python or Chubby Hubby?
Start with one scoop of each!
One BIG scoop of each!
*Scoop = Carton
-
Just don't find Cameron attractive....
Yes they have come a long way....
-
Cameron Ditz-ass
-
Cameron Diaz is scaring me. She has so much collagen in her cheeks her cheeks look like they have apples in them.
-
Another one I changed at the last minute
-
Oops.. i think I guessed "Cars".
-
It was a funny movie.
He got dressed up big time!
-
Happy Feet won over Cars.
-
I guessed "Cars," also.
-
Poor Cameron just can't pull off "cute and coy".....I hear she hasone of the raunchiest mouths in H'wood on a movie set.
-
Cameron Ditz-ass
I am not a fan of hers. She is a decent actress but not great by any lenght of the imagination. She is nowhere in the same league as Helen Mirren or Meryl Streep or even Liz Taylor for that matter.
-
Man candy
-
Cameron Diaz is scaring me. She has so much collagen in her cheeks her cheeks look like they have apples in them.
Ah, ha! I was right - DH Richard just asked "What's wrong with her cheeks?" and I said "Collagen"
-
Here's Ben.
-
Happy Feet won over Cars.
I was not a big fan of cars. It was cute though
-
Well... I still "like" Ben Affleck, if you get my drift... And I think you do.
;)
-
Cameron Diaz is scaring me. She has so much collagen in her cheeks her cheeks look like they have apples in them.
She looks like a chipmunk with nuts in her cheeks!
-
Just googled a picture of her.
-
too long for screenwriting introductory segment.
-
Why is there no writing clip from "Bells Are Ringing"??
-
Very nice. Liked that a lot!!
-
Well... I still "like" Ben Affleck, if you get my drift... And I think you do.
;)
Me too
-
Wasn't Dean Martin a playwrite in BAR?
-
Mr BK - Paris When It Sizzles was featured prominently!
-
Me too
Me three!
-
I think everyone is trying to make themselves into an M & M ...that site is REALLY slow to load
-
Wasn't Dean Martin a playwrite in BAR?
Songwriter
-
I predicted THE DEPARTED for Adapted SCreenplay.
-
I will say... The writing categories were a toss up for me. So, let's see what happens...
*I'm still amazed that "History Boys" did not get nominated.
-
Songwriter
::) My bad. :)
-
I predicted THE DEPARTED for Adapted SCreenplay.
That was my guess.
-
Sad that a screenplay was adapted from another screenplay, imho.
-
He LOOKS like a writer!!!
Good choice!
-
I think I guessed "Little Children".
-
SECOND HIGHEST POSTING DAY EVER!!
-
Jack Nicholson always looks out of it.
-
"Little Children" really creeped me out when i saw it, and then they would have the muscular butt-cheeks of Paul Wilson (?) ginding away, and I'd about swoon! Weird combination of emotions.
-
The Departed - this guy won't shut up.
-
And he should wash his hair.
-
And when did Jack Nicholson get a Marlon Brando head-shave??
-
Did you hear that they played him out with the piano doing "The sun has gone to bed and so must I"
-
As always, we lead the way - last night I watched Paris When It Sizzles and tonight most of the clips in that writing montage were from - Paris When It Sizzles.
-
What this show needs is MORE Pilobalus!!!
-
"Little Children" really creeped me out when i saw it, and then they would have the muscular butt-cheeks of Paul Wilson (?) ginding away, and I'd about swoon! Weird combination of emotions.
Patrick Wilson.
-
Nicholson's baldness is as horrific as Cameron Diaz, Naomi Watts, and Nicole Kidman.
-
I gotta tell you.
-
...And if you've seen "Infernal Affairs"... Again, I liked "The Departed", but it pretty much copied, more than "adapted" "Infernal Affairs". Again, imho.
-
Did you hear that they played him out with the piano doing "The sun has gone to bed and so must I"
Hehehehehe
-
I predict a new posting record within the hour.
-
As always, we lead the way - last night I watched Paris When It Sizzles and tonight most of the clips in that writing montage were from - Paris When It Sizzles.
lousy movie and a less than riveting segment. There must be a connection.
-
Patrick Wilson.
The butt remains the same. 8)
-
I don't see how this show will get to four hours - I think I was right earlier - they'll come in earlier and then BRAG how they made it shorter.
-
I gotta tell you.
WHAT?!?!?!?
You keep saying that....
What do you gotta tell us?!?!?!?!
WHAT?!?!??!?!!
-
Of course, an hour of the four hours is for commercials.
-
;D
-
So it is written, so it shall be done - page forty.
-
Patrick Wilson.
Patrick Wilson....thanks George. Now that is a man-butt that is inspirational ! Not as good as dear BK's of course, but right up there. (no pun intended)
-
90 minutes in and ONE acting award.
-
Patrick Wilson....thanks George. Now that is a man-butt that is inspirational ! Not as good as dear BK's of course, but right up there. (no pun intended)
His butt was also featured in "Angels In America." ;)
-
Some people have bailed - skammen.
-
Nice gowns.
Nice boobs.
-
I'll guess costumes for MARIE ANTOINETTE.
-
Meryl rocks!!
-
I guessed "Curse of the Golden Flower."
-
His butt was also featured in "Angels In America." ;)
Along with his "hee-hah".
:)
-
Cute bit for Meryl and the girls
-
Toby and Dylan want the corgi to win for costumes.
-
I'm rooting for "The Devil Wears Prada"!
-
AAAGGHHH!!!
Just had a power blip!
I missed the joke!
AAGGGHHHH!!
-
I heart Meryl.
-
And the winner...."Marie Antoinette"
-
Another good choice from DR MATTH
-
Oh, well.
-
Dreamgirls upset number three.
-
WHY did they have them move to the music?!?!??!
WHY?!?!?!?!
-
Toby and Dylan want the corgi to win for costumes.
Nice train on the Corgi!
-
Has anything won multiple Oscars yet?
-
I wanted "Devil-Prada" to win......I love Meryl Streep. I want to take her to lunch.
-
DR JOSE - Meryl made "that face" when the girls were talking about her.
-
Everything looks so good in high-def that it ALMOST makes up for the show's lack of excitement.
I think Ellen is doing a great job....we just need more of her.
-
I, too, was hoping for Prada, because the costume design was SO what the film was about and it was perfection.
-
Sorry DR MUSIC GUY - Prada, Nada.
-
Has anything won multiple Oscars yet?
The Departed and Pan's Labyrinth have both won two.
-
But the Marie Antoinette clothes look beautiful.
-
Oh no....turn it off.
-
WHY did they have them move to the music?!?!??!
WHY?!?!?!?!
Jose... didn't you love the dippy moves to the "Dreamgirls" costumes???!!
-
So it is written, so it shall be done - page forty-one.
-
Dreamgirls upset number three.
Well... I think the only true "Dreamgirls" upset so far has been Supporting Actor. -Which I really didn't care about. So...
However, for the studio, I guess they're all upsets.
-
Sherry Lansing??? I can't even watch this.
-
Oh, golly. If Tom Cruise is going to talk, I'm going to go pee....
-
I didn't know Sherry Lansing was going to get the Hersholt.
-
I wanted "Devil-Prada" to win......I love Meryl Streep. I want to take her to lunch.
I want my gray hair to look like hers did in the movie.
-
Am I the only one here who's not watching the Oscars?
I'm not watching them either, DR DearReaderLaura. I've been workng on my final chart for Kevin Spirtas. Now I'm going to bed.
-
I'm not watching them either, DR DearReaderLaura. I've been workng on my final chart for Kevin Spirtas. Now I'm going to bed.
Awwww....
-
I gotta tell you
-
Oh crap..... Tom Cruise. (poseur, fake, closet....) trying to beatify Sherry Lansing (no nun, no saint).....
And it's even worse when Cruise takes himself seriously and tries to be "deep."
-
I, too, was hoping for Prada, because the costume design was SO what the film was about and it was perfection.
Well.. Although a bunch of the clothes were built, a bunch were also shopped. Yes, I know that "shopping" is part of Costume Design, but I had heard that some people weren't sure if they were voting for the actual designers represented in the film, or the film's costume designer.
-
Does tonight's post total, thus far, threaten to be a record?
-
Has anything won multiple Oscars yet?
Pan's Labyrinth
-
Jose... didn't you love the dippy moves to the "Dreamgirls" costumes???!!
Yeah, what was with the guy doing James Early as a robot?
-
I'm not watching them either, DR DearReaderLaura. I've been workng on my final chart for Kevin Spirtas. Now I'm going to bed.
Goodnight dear Elmo...... sleep tight, and I send you a hug.
-
If anyone wondered what the music playing behind that last bit of Cruises' speech was, it was Randy Edelman's "Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story."
-
Do Scientologists go along with stem cell research? It's a serious question; I really don't know and would like to know.
-
We're within spitting distance of the new record -
-
Tonight will definitely break the all-time record. There's still like 2 hours of awards left.
-
With BK's post # 1221, today has become the highest posting day on HHW EVER!!
-
Do Scientologists go along with stem cell research? It's a serious question; I really don't know and would like to know.
I was wondering about that too, since a bunch of her causes deal with pharmaceutical research.
-
Nice speech.
-
Pan's Labyrinth
Yes...only "Pan's Labyrinth", thus far. I must have anticipated an Oscar for "The Departed."
-
Ellen sweet and funny.
-
With all of the year's of genuine, hard, hands-on work that was done by Audrey Hepburn, you can see why she would deserve the Hersholt award.
Oh well, apparently they couldn't come up with anyone other than Sherry Lansing.
-
Gwyneth looks beautiful - not everyone can wear that color.
-
I am thinking that Mr Cruise's Scientology would NOT jibe with Ms Lansing's causes.
-
PAN'S LABYRINTH will likely win this, too.
-
102 minutes in and ONE ACTING award given.
-
PAN'S LABYRINTH will likely win this, too.
That was my guess.
-
Oscar.com still isn't updating
-
Wow - another PAN win.
-
That was my guess.
And it's correct!
-
Pan's again - how many is that?
-
So... Is there no distinction/limitation in the technical awards when it comes to "English" vs. Foreign Language films?
-Could "Pan's Labyrinth" been submitted as an "english" language film if it had been dubbed?
-
Guess I should have tried harder to get to the theater and see this. It just left here on Friday
-
Pan's again - how many is that?
Three
-
Pan's again - how many is that?
3 so far, and it will certainly win Foreign Film.
-
Ellen has finally found herself and is funny now, not pushing at all.
-
So Long, Farewell....
-
And, like DR Rodzinksi - I did find "Pan's Labyrinth" to be a bit depressing, and puzzlingly so.
And like DR TPunk, I found some of the graphicness, very graphic.
-
Ladies and gentlemen - we have a new record.
-
I think it's time for ice cream - cherry cordial.
-
I've heard the same things, Jose, that's why I decided to skip it
-
I think it's time for more diet Pepsi!
-
Guess I should have tried harder to get to the theater and see this. It just left here on Friday
Well.. I have a feeling it will be making a return engagement.
-
The more I see clips and excerpts, and read about it, I think i will give "Pan's L." a miss.
To quote Garry Marshall..... "it's depressing, and it's expensive!"
-
Oh crap..... Tom Cruise. (poseur, fake, closet....) trying to beatify Sherry Lansing (no nun, no saint).....
Who among us is, though....hmmmm?
-
I' going to have some popcorn.
-
Absolutely NO REASON for this show to be THIS LONG!!
-
My favorite part of Pan's Labyrinth was the relentless and nasty violence.
-
So...
Anyone spot a hidden 79?
-
So... Is there no distinction/limitation in the technical awards when it comes to "English" vs. Foreign Language films?
-Could "Pan's Labyrinth" been submitted as an "english" language film if it had been dubbed?
Ummmm....."Letters from Iwo Jima" is in Japanese...
-
Yes, popcorn sounds good.
-
How high will we go?
-
I gotta tell you?
-
"Pan's" may win five oscars....we've got Best Score and Foreign Language film to go.
-
If you want to set a record
then you must join the fray
And post and post and post
And post
On Haines His Way.
-
Why did I put a question mark there?
-
I have to say the commercials look very spiffy in high-def, too!
-
Man Candy
-
Old used up druggie man candy
-
There's a list on the Oscar's website. One was supposed to be on Jack Nicholson's glasses....or not...they list all the places it could be and you say if you saw it or not.
-
Oh... I lke little Robert Downey Jr.s ......... I really "like" him !
-
Robert Downey not looking great.
-
Will we never get to page forty-three?
Anything's possible! ;)
-
I guess PIRATES
-
I want my gray hair to look like hers did in the movie.
Meryl's hair looked REALLY GREAT in the movie--GREAT CUT, GREAT COLOR. I don't blame you, GINNY!
-
Ummmm....."Letters from Iwo Jima" is in Japanese...
But still.... I guess the home studio/distributor has to be based in the U.S.ofA.
-
Girl in the yellow dress better not take a deep breath.
-
Got that one right - the other two looked awful.
-
God, I feel like an old poop...... I really want the men's hair to be styled, and their faces shaved, and a little foundation and concealer wouldn't hurt either.
In other words................
I WANT GLAMOUR DAMN IT ! IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE HOLLYWOOD !!!
-
The first guy is talking way too long...the other's don't get to talk....how rude
-
Did he say "Gort"?
-
Well... I was counting on Oscars.com to do the tallying for the Oscar pool, but...
:-\
-
This show has come to a standstill. And Naomi, one of my favorites, as stated, looked awful.
-
I made a short post, and two pages rolled by!
-
Catherine = Class
-
Jose - Wasn't LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL nominated for best picture in its year even though it was in a foreign language?
-
The first guy is talking way too long...the other's don't get to talk....how rude
Well... Apparently, only ONE person per "winner" is supposed to speak.
-
Matt H, we're going to have to ask you to start posting SPOILERS before your predictions!!! :)
-
I thought the nice french lady looked very classy in a simple black dress.
-
Several foreign films have been nominated for Best Pic.
Two that come to mind - Z and GRAND ILLUSION.
-
Well... I like the music for this montage...
-
God, I feel like an old poop...... I really want the men's hair to be styled, and their faces shaved, and a little foundation and concealer wouldn't hurt either.
In other words................
I WANT GLAMOUR DAMN IT ! IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE HOLLYWOOD !!!
Quite right, MUSIC GUY. I never used to think I was a fan of glamour, but when you see this, well, suddenly you see the appeal.
-
Montage to Nowhere!
-
And one for Montage
-
Did I miss the "Once in lifetime DREAMGIRLS reunion"?!?!??!
-
We just saw the full montage
-
These are great films, but not a necessary montage.
-
Ohh... the show is scheduled to go until 11:30EST!
-
My wardrobe update - lavendar sleep shirt, lavendar chenille robe, white slippers. Can you tell I'm NOT gonna last 'til the end of this program?
-
Clive Owen! Yummy!! ;D
-
Clive Owen...
<DROOL>
-
We're about to get another "Steffen Vletch" accepting something.....
-
WHOA!?!?!?!??!???!!
-
HUGE UPSET!
-
Clive Owen...
<DROOL>
Oh Arthur, you've eaten more meat than anyone in this room.
(couldn't resist)
-
Nice foreign film tribute.
-
But...best foreign language nomination for a film from Canada?
Was it in French? Or a native dialect of indigenous people?
-
* I could actually hear screams of shock from the other apartments in the building with that surprise win.
-
Did I miss the "Once in lifetime DREAMGIRLS reunion"?!?!??!
No
-
The German wins - I've heard it's very good -
-
122 minutes in and ONE acting award presented.
-
They're still trying to make the Dreamgirls thing like it's the most important thing in the show - pathetic. There is no end to the shamelessness.
-
I picked that one right. Because I think I read that in the NY Times.
-
It could all backfire.
-
There is quite a lot of filler on this show.
-
He said, "I thank..." not what everyone else says, "I want to thank..."
If they want to thank people, why don't they just thank people??
;)
-
Hmm... Did they have to acknowledge "Snakes On A Plane"?!?!?!?
-
Sorry Pan(derer's) Labyrinth! You'll have to make do with some lesser awards!! Sweet vindication!
-
The whole Academy gets to vote on many of the categories but for the foreign films, there are other requirements.
-
FINALLY!! Best Supporting Actress.
-
Now this could be THE upset of the evening...
-
On pins and needles...
-
By the way...has anyone thanked God yet??
-
Expected choice.
-
Ah, I picked the upset
-
Jennifer!
-
I'm SO happy for Jennfier!
-
Well.. i think someone will now!
-
"Look what God can do."
-
No upset.
-
Take a drink!!
Look what God can do?
What, crush the dreams of an eight year old?
-
How much time do the Acting winners get for their acceptance speeches?
-
"I would like to thank Bill Condon our director."
-
God got two thank yous - and idol none....
-
But what she as good as the other actors in her category? Not from the clips I watched.
-
She didn't thank Simon. ::)
-
"Jennifer Holliday too!"
-
So, if Dreamgirls wins song, will it be tied for most Oscars? Three.
-
How much time do the Acting winners get for their acceptance speeches?
Nevermind...
-
I think Little Miss Sunshine is 10, about two months older than Tatum O'Neal so she wouldn't have set the record if she had won.
-
We have some MAJOR awards to go....let's get with it, people.
-
The whole Academy gets to vote on many of the categories but for the foreign films, there are other requirements.
True enough...they can't vote for this category unless they've seen ALL the films.
-
Now if anyone should have had a speech prepared....
Just sayin'...
;)
-
She said on Barbara Walters that if she won she would thank AI - "in general"
-
Watch the theater chatboards be abuzz now, telling us how the box-office will go UP AND UP.
-
I think Little Miss Sunshine is 10, about two months older than Tatum O'Neal so she wouldn't have set the record if she had won.
You are correct, Sir.
-
God got two thank yous - and idol none....
"Idol" didn't deserve any thank yous.
-
It was a surprise. She was expected to thank God only once, but she actually acknowledged him twice.
-
But what she as good as the other actors in her category? Not from the clips I watched.
The clips don't do it for me either - but I didn't see the movie. Seems a bit amateurish in the clips though....BUT she has the OSCAR! ;D
-
I walked out of the room after the first line of her thank you.
-
She didn't thank Simon. ::)
Nor Alvin and Theodore, which had to hurt.
-
IMO, Jennifer Hudson TOTALLY EARNED and DESERVED her Oscar win.
She was brilliant!
-
What film currently has the most awards and how many?
-
Work just got interesting.... I become very scarce sadly... The computer check out system decided to take a dive and we have to resort to doing it the old fashioned way with pen, card and paper.
-
I don't think anything can really sweep, can it?
-
It was a surprise. She was expected to thank God only once, but she actually acknowledged him twice.
Belief in God is a wonderful thing.
-
Have all the technical awards been given out now?
Although we haven't seen Best Original Screenplay.....I don't think.
-
The fact that the first two songs were done so early and that they're holding the Dreamgirls songs as if they're the event of the evening - am I the only one who sees this for what it is - yes or no?
-
Nor Alvin and Theodore, which had to hurt.
Totally.
-
The Oscars website is updating now and I'm tied for last place. Who is DM again?
-
I still don't see how this show can be four hours. At this point it will have trouble being three-and-a-half.
-
Work just got interesting.... I become very scarce sadly... The computer check out system decided to take a dive and we have to resort to doing it the old fashioned way with pen, card and paper.
Welcome to the 20th Century.
-
PAN'S still has three; DREAMGIRLS - 2.
-
Oh.. Oscars.com started to update...
jlkalman123 is in the lead.
-With a bunch of us tied for second.
-
Here's the Best Documentary - Short subject.
-
The Oscars website is updating now and I'm tied for last place. Who is DM again?
Ben, I think.
-
More shorts....Ryan was wearing Calvins during the Red Carpet, he showed us.
-
"Whether it's long or short, it's what you do with it that counts."
the Bernal boy can whisper that in my ear........ anytime!
-
The fact that the first two songs were done so early and that they're holding the Dreamgirls songs as if they're the event of the evening - am I the only one who sees this for what it is - yes or no?
It's more for ratings than anything else. Blame ABC.
-
How are you enjoying the show in high definition, DR Ron Pulliam?
-
I was hoping Water would win
-
Let's see, we have at least 7 more regular awards, the old man tribute award, the passed away people, three more songs, commercials... I calculate the show will end by 3:17 a.m.
-
I blame ABC - don't they OWN Dreamworks now?
-
Now I'm not tied for last. I AM last.
-
Who's "jlkalman123"? -DR JMK?
-
I agree Ron, she was good. I want Helen to win for best actress
-
The standings. Doesn't include documentary short but I think it includes everything else
1 jlkalman123 9
2 GeorgeD 8
2 edisaurus 8
4 cillaliz 7
4 TCB 7
4 dantheman 7
7 JoseSPiano 6
8 MBarnum 5
8 DM 5
10 DR Sandra 3
-
Oops, I didn't allow 5 minutes for Seinfeld comedy.
-
How are you enjoying the show in high definition, DR Ron Pulliam?
Very, very much.
-
I'm tied for #1!! ;D
-
I agree Ron, she was good. I want Helen to win for best actress
I think most everyone does. They've all but inscribed her name on it.
I'd love to see O'Toole win Best Actor.
-
Al Gore GETS an Oscar (sorta).
-
*Yawn*
-
Stop pausing!!! You're wasting your airtime!!!!!!!!!
-
Well, the Gore film win was pretty much expected.
-
Will they cut Gore off again? Hmm..
-
Hooray to HHW for smashing the posting record and I am sure we are no where near done yet tonight!
-
I just had my first screaming moment of the evening, as Al Gore spoke and they cut to the shots of all these STUPID young actors looking beatific and politicized and it made me want to vomit on the ground. They look that way until the next flavor hot topic of the day comes up.
-
Ennio - yay!
-
I hope he's walkin' down there now, or we'll be waitin' for him for a long time.
-
Celine Dion should be on soon.
-
Clint really messed that up.
-
Clint really messed that up.
He said "I should have brought my glasses" well duh!. If you can't see bring your glasses
-
Celine Dion should be on soon.
Well... If what I heard leaked is correct... She should be on shortly...
:-\
-
Love all of his music....really love THE UNTOUCHABLES score!
-
Well... If what I heard leaked is correct... She should be on shortly...
:-\
I heard it as an announcement, not a leak. ::)
-
He said "I should have brought my glasses" well duh!. If you can't see bring your glasses
But at least it was REAL moment!
;)
-
145 minutes in - two acting awards given.
-
I think most everyone does. They've all but inscribed her name on it.
I'd love to see O'Toole win Best Actor.
I agree...
-
8 awards to go.....
-
What does Al Gore have to do with hollywood and why in tarnation is he there?
-
Oh no....what the $*&$ is this?
-
I'm happy anytime Exorcist II: The Heretic comes up at the Academy Awards.
-
I heard it as an announcement, not a leak. ::)
Announcment, leak... same difference.
;)
-
HA!!!! I need to go back to shot of the people in that box!
-
Of course... This song should have been in Eye-talian!
-
I think his music is lovely, but poor Ennio Morricone looked really out of it when they cut to him in the audience. I wonder if they are giving him this award because he isn't well physically.
-
Sa. Morricone's luggage must have been lost and she had to buy something to wear at White Front.
-
What does Al Gore have to do with hollywood and why in tarnation is he there?
You must not have seen An Inconvenient Truth. He stared in it and it just won best Documentary Feature
-
I guess everyone else is stunned and not posting right now.
-
Nice of them to mention his work for THE THING, which is barely even used in the movie.
-
Oh no....what the $*&$ is this?
Lyrics were written for one of Ennio's melodies. As part of the tribute to him, Celine is singing it.
-
What does Al Gore have to do with hollywood and why in tarnation is he there?
He narrated and helped raise funds for one of the year's most acclaimed documentaries. He had every right to be there.
-
Wow....Ceiling Dion's mouth looks like a chicken's ass.
-
I think his music is lovely, but poor Ennio Morricone looked really out of it when they cut to him in the audience. I wonder if they are giving him this award because he isn't well physically.
I think he's just tired right now. He's been all over creation the past couple of weeks for various concert and tributes.
-
I heard some sour and missed notes among the singing just then.
-
And one for Morricone
-
What does Al Gore have to do with hollywood and why in tarnation is he there?
"An Inconvenient Truth" -- Al's fight for America to solve the global warming crisis -- it won an Oscar. He was part and parcel of the film.
-
They don't have a translator??
-
Didn't love the Morricone selection - but it was okay. I HATE Celine Dion as a singer - all mannerisms, poses, every syllable studied and rehearsed, nothing real, no feeling for a lyric and enough reverb to choke a horse.
-
The look on Ken Watanabe's face!!!!!
HA!
-
MALAMONDO is a good rare Morricone I have on vinyl.
-
Oh, Clint is translating.
-
However, that theme, Deborah's Theme from Once Upon A Time In America - my favorite Morricone piece ever - the Bergmans didn't really rise to the occasion - very cliched lyric, but nice to hear anyway.
-
I do think if Eastwood had wanted to honor his friend, he would have made sure he could read the teleprompter. They do have rehearsals.
-
Eight awards left in ninety minutes??? I don't think so.
-
Of course the Dreamgirls PR segment will take fifteen minutes.
-
And maybe Ennio will speak for another twenty minutes.
-
That was a splendid moment with Morricone. The Oscars did a much more dignified and respectful special Oscar presentation to him than they accorded Alex North many years back.
-
That entire segment could have been done with much more style and elan.
-
Eight awards left in ninety minutes??? I don't think so.
Well, if they really wanted, they could do eight awards in 10 minutes. ;)
-
So... If "The Brain from Planet X" was to be picked up by Dreamworks/SKG... And nominated in a bunch of categories... And promoted to within an inch of it's life...
-
Just had a lovely Kritzerland order - someone discovered the site and bought everything that I wrote - Deceit, Stages, and two copies of The Brain.
-
Easily done.
-
He narrated and helped raise funds for one of the year's most acclaimed documentaries. He had every right to be there.
I understand....
-
Wow....Ceiling Dion's mouth looks like a chicken's ass.
I thought she looked extremely elegant. Didn't like the lyrics.
I never knew you wre so well-acquainted with chicken butts, JRand!!!
;)
-
No complaints from you West Coasters. It's after 11 p.m. here. You'll have a full evening once the awards finally conclude.
-
Easily done.
I've lightened up. Carry on....
-
So... If "The Brain from Planet X" was to be picked up by Dreamworks/SKG... And nominated in a bunch of categories... And promoted to within an inch of it's like...
I would fight against it, and I would not be happy. And I mean that honestly. I hate that stuff. I know it's the game and I know everyone has to play, but there's a point at which it becomes nothing but crass, and Dreamworks and Paramount passed that point before the film ever opened and it really did backfire and hurt them. People DISCOVERED Chicago - it was NOT shoved down people's throats.
-
I thought she looked extremely elegant. Didn't like the lyrics.
I never knew you wre so well-acquainted with chicken butts, JRand!!!
;)
Ron her mouth on that last (you) that she held and held looked pretty funny. I laughed at it myself
-
Rushing from living room to bedroom to post, back to living room.
Haven't had a moment to eat a piece of my rum cake yet.
Have stubbed my toe TWICE, dammit!
-
In the early part of the Morricone orchestral medley, there was an absolutely beautifully played oboe solo carrying the melody line. Wonderful reed playing!
-
I gotta tell you
-
I doubt anyone will ever really catch up by reading these notes, so we can pretty much say whatever we want.
-
<BARF>
The "Volver-ine himself"
<BARF>
-
Ah, score...
-
Wonder if it is the a fan of musicals I sent to your site......I told her about your outstanding like of artists and singers.
-
Philip Glass maybe for score for NOTES ON A SCANDAL.
-
I would fight against it, and I would not be happy.
Well, I guess the there must have been a LOT more promotion for the film on the West Coast then there was here in NYC (East Coast).
-
Santaolallo wins for the second year in a row....first time that's been done in this category since Franz Waxman did it in 1950 ("Sunset Boulevard") and 1951 ("A Place in the Sun").
-
I do not like Phillip Glass' music..... no I do not like it one bit.
-
Okay, for the second year they gave Best Score to the Worst Score. I cannot believe it. You had one GREAT score up (the Desplat) and one fine score (the Thomas Newman) and they give it to someone who strums a friggin' guitar for two hours - the Academy is HOPELESS, STUPID, and completely at sea in terms of the Best Score award. End of rant.
-
Interesting choice...
I like the score for "Babel".. but was afraid it might have been considered too minimal - at least in terms of the duration of the musical material. Lots of "silence" in that movie - which was great.
-
I got that wrong.
-
I was hoping for Thomas Newman. I truly think his work was the best of the nominees....but the film wasn't successful.
-
That, for me, is the worst award of the evening.
-
Interesting choice...
I like the score for "Babel".. but was afraid it might have been considered too minimal - at least in terms of the duration of the musical material. Lots of "silence" in that movie - which was great.
Not only that, but most of what you hear isn't original score...it's work by others.
There's a bit of controversy over how it even got nominated as it doesnt' seem to have met the criteria the music branch requires for percentage of score being substantially original.
But...exceptions prevail every year.
-
That, for me, is the worst award of the evening.
Sadly, that seems to be the norm for Oscar.
-
LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE for Original Screenplay.
-
Original screenplay
-
I'm thinking Little Miss Sunshine could be the upset.
-
I hope THE QUEEN or LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE win best picture... Tired of DREAMGIRLS hype
-
Matt H missed one?
-
LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE has not played yet in FArgo.
-
I have officially defeated TPunk in our annual Oscar picks showdown. First time ever!!!
-
Little Toby McGuire again....
Just give me Toby, 2 hours, a blow dryer, a razor, a 15 watt lightbulb, 2 sticks of butter, a bottle of chardonnay, and a towel......... and I'd give you a new Toby back!
-
Score!!!
-
I hope THE QUEEN or LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE win best picture... Tired of DREAMGIRLS hype
DREAMGIRLS isn't up for Best Picture.
-
I got that wrong. :(
-
Matt H missed one?
I didn't miss that one, but I have not been 100% tonight. Has anyone?
-
I didn't miss that one, but I have not been 100% tonight. Has anyone?
No, but JMK has gotten 11 correct and I've gotten 10.
-
Little Toby McGuire again....
Just give me Toby, 2 hours, a blow dryer, a razor, a 15 watt lightbulb, 2 sticks of butter, a bottle of chardonnay, and a towel......... and I'd give you a new Toby back!
Are you planning a Last Tango in Paris?
-
Popcorn with butter has been prepared.
-
Almost to Page 50!!
;)
-
That last Chris Connelly bit seems to have been recorded a few awards ago.
-
Philip Glass maybe for score for NOTES ON A SCANDAL.
Oh, I thought this was your prediction.
-
PAGE 50 DANCE!!
-
This year's Oscars are not working for me.
-
I ate about half a bag of my popcorn and put it away.
-
I do not like Phillip Glass' music..... no I do not like it one bit.
On that discordant note, we TOTALLY agree!
:D
-
Quick Poll: What will win Best Picture??
-
So if Dreamgirls takes song does that means it's tied for most Oscars with three (Pan's is done for the evening) or can something beat it with four?
-
Well.. Four awards, the deathroll, and "Dreamgirls".... In 11 minutes!?!?!
Na' gonna happen.
-
I love Phillip Glass's music. Except the parts that repeat.
-
Oh, I thought this was your prediction.
You must be a couple of pages back. We were on Screenplay that I got right.
I did miss the score prize.
-
The Departed, I suppose, could take actor, director, and picture and have four. Little Miss Sunshine could take picture, but that would be three.
-
On that discordant note, we TOTALLY agree!
:D
Hoo and Ray ......I always thought that were was a big element of "The Emporor's New Clothes" in regard to all of the hype over P. Glass !
-
This year's Oscars are not working for me.
It's INTERNATIONAL Oscars..parity abounds. No clear-cut favorites iin most categories, including Best Picture.
It's a dismal year for U.S. moviemaking, apparently.
-
Here we go with the Dreamgirls songs.
-
They said the show would run four hours, Jose - they will really have to stretch....
Ah, finally we get the Dreamgirls show.
-
Hoo and Ray ......I always thought that were was a big element of "The Emporor's New Clothes" in regard to all of the hype over P. Glass !
There was ONE great Glass composer...and it was PAUL, who composed "Bunny Lake is Missing".
-
Jennifer is singing the song she sang in the movie.
-
I like that dress on Jennifer much more than the one she wore to the ceremony.
-
LOL!
I just knew that she was going to oversing and over-riff this song.... Ms. hudson that is.
-But we still have Beyonce....
-
DREAMGIRLS isn't up for Best Picture.
Good....
-
I did think Hudson was great in DREAMGIRLS, but I think she was a leading actress.
-
So, is this current wailing, the much-hyped "one time only" cast reunion??
I think I'll take out my left over pizza to the trash can...
-
They said the show would run four hours, Jose - they will really have to stretch....
Ah, finally we get the Dreamgirls show.
It's only scheduled to run for another 7 minutes...it may not go 4 hours- that was the talking heads talking, but it isn't going to end in 7 minutes either
-
So...
This may fall under the "catty" corner, but I have wondered... Has Jennifer Hudson not lost her "Effie weight" yet?
-
It's only scheduled to run for another 7 minutes...it may not go 4 hours- that was the talking heads talking, but it isn't going to end in 7 minutes either
I'm givin' it 'til mignight - 36 minutes from now - then I'm bailing.
-
It's INTERNATIONAL Oscars..parity abounds. No clear-cut favorites iin most categories, including Best Picture.
It's a dismal year for U.S. moviemaking, apparently.
Only surpassed by this year, so far anyway.
-
So...
This may fall under the "catty" corner, but I have wondered... Has Jennifer Hudson not lost her "Effie weight" yet?
Ryan Seacrest mentioned that she has lost some weight.
-
I cannot listen to this wailing and these AWFUL songs, not one of which is a patch on the butt cheeks of the B'way score to Dreamgirls. Michael Bennett would not have allowed this tripe in his show.
-
This is giving me acute nausea.
-
So it is written, so it shall be done - page fifty-one.
-
I did think Hudson was great in DREAMGIRLS, but I think she was a leading actress.
Well... According to Beyonce's contract, Ms. Hudson was in a supporting role.
-
Well, at least they're getting their money's worth out of the gosple choir.
-
Anika Noni Rose's dress is beautiful.
-
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
-
Well... According to Beyonce's contract, Ms. Hudson was in a supporting role.
I dig.
-
A little over the top, I think, but I enjoyed it.
-
Just give it song and never let me hear these three songs again EVER
-
I grew up in Motown, in the time period in question, and this does NOT have the sound.
-
Travolta and Latifah. Oh dear.
-
OK - I know this also puts me in th old poop category; but I can't stand that over-wailing, fakey made-up, type of screaming that passes as singing. No regard for an actual melody, or how the song is supposed to sound.
T'ain't fittin', I tell you, t'ain't fittin' !
-
Glad I am at work and can't hear it!
-
My LEAST favorite song of the night.
-
Oohh!!!
Lesbians kissing!!!!!
Now, that's The Oscars to me!
-
Hey! "An Inconvenient Truth" won in every category it was nominated for!
-
Yes! Hollywood can always be counted on to vote with their adorable liberal hearts.
-
Travolta and Latifah. Oh dear.
And one statement of truth that everyone took as a joke!
-
Cool! Melissa!
-
Well... Why do I have the unsettling feeling that a bunch of Tv sets just turned the channel... or off.
:-\
-
Hey! "An Inconvenient Truth" won in every category it was nominated for!
All both of them! ;D
-
Yes! Hollywood can always be counted on to vote with their adorable liberal hearts.
IS this a "conservative" BK talkin'?
-
I'm simply amazed that "DreamGirls" didn't take a song Oscar.
What a hoot! Not a good song in the bunch, IMO.
-
I had forgotten that Queen Latifah was playing Mabelle in HAiRSPRAY.
-
I'm sorry Randy didn't get it - his was the only real song in the bunch - just a classic AABA, short, said what it had to say, and done. And pretty. And no wailing. I just wish he'd sung it.
-
Well... Why do I have the unsettling feeling that a bunch of Tv sets just turned the channel... or off.
:-\
Dunno....they ain't given out the big ones yet....and "Brokeback Mountain" can't win in a write-in vote.
-
Well, I can understand the DREAMGIRLS backlash. But I don't understand how PAN'S LABYRINTH lost Best Foreign Pic.
-
Although, I guess with Ellen Degenerest hosting, "those" sets probably would not have been turned on to The Oscars i the first place.
-
Makes me long for the good old days of "Hard Out Here for A Pimp."
-
I had forgotten that Queen Latifah was playing Mabelle in HAiRSPRAY.
But Travolta as Mrs. Turnblad MAY be his ultimate bid for Oscar.
I hope it's a great film!
-
-Sorry for that bit of pessimism and cynicism.
-
Well, I can understand the DREAMGIRLS backlash. But I don't understand how PAN'S LABYRINTH lost Best Foreign Pic.
Apparently the voters actually saw it!
-
Makes me long for the good old days of "Hard Out Here for A Pimp."
Just reinforces to me the sad truth that the Best Song category should be dropped from the list.
-
-Sorry for that bit of pessimism and cynicism.
That's totally OK dear Jose.... you pixie vixen !
-
Apparently the voters actually saw it!
Well, I believe it should have won the technical categories... But technique does not a Best Picture make.
-
Just reinforces to me the sad truth that the Best Song category should be dropped from the list.
This I agree with.
-
OOHH!!
Need to start a manual DVR recording.

The standings so far:

but Matt.... another thought might be to actually start using actual well written songs for movies. With actual melodies, thoughtful and poetic lyrics, orchestrated with beautiful support form an orchestra......
oops, there I go again on an "old poop" tangent.
-
I'm simply amazed that "DreamGirls" didn't take a song Oscar.
What a hoot! Not a good song in the bunch, IMO.
At least they won't have to worry about Beyonce not being nominated when she wrote part of the song. ::)
-
In other news...
I don't see any more snow falling in our backyard.
:(
-
Now what is this???
-
We're past the three hour mark. We don't need another film montage.
-
I wonder how Flan's Labyrinth fared at Edisaurus' party. I hope the backlash didn't affect its chances.
:)
-
We're past the three hour mark. We don't need another film montage.
Maybe it's for Best Film Editing. That hasn't been announced yet. :-\
-
but Matt.... another thought might be to actually start using actual well written songs for movies. With actual melodies, thoughtful and poetic lyrics, orchestrated with beautiful support form an orchestra......
oops, there I go again on an "old poop" tangent.
Well, then I'm an old poop too.
Although, at preschool, if you say "poop," you get in trouble.
-
Okay, this is the most ridiculously random montage in the dark and sordid history of montages!!!
-
Uh-Oh!
I just realized one of my roommates was supposed to fly back from Boston earlier tonight. Her flight was due in at 6:30 origiinally... but then was cancellled... But then she was bumped to a later flight scheduled to get in at 8:15... She's still not home yet.
:-\
-
This montage makes no sense--it's just a series of film clips.
-
Okay, this is the most ridiculously random montage in the dark and sordid history of montages!!!
Gotta agree with that one. We haven't had the tribute to those who have died yet either, have we?
-
Uh-Oh!
I just realized one of my roommates was supposed to fly back from Boston earlier tonight. Her flight was due in at 6:30 origiinally... but then was cancellled... But then she was bumped to a later flight scheduled to get in at 8:15... She's still not home yet.
:-\
You weren't supposed to pick her up, were you??
;)
-
I guess BABEL will win film editing.
-
This montage makes no sense--it's just a series of film clips.
Well, it was put together by another famous director.
-
OK gang, I'm really stumped now...... what was supposed to be the theme or point of that last film montage??? !!!
-
Was there a clip from PATHS OF GLORY in a montage about America?
-
This has to go to "Babel" - the whole film is about the editing.
We shall see...
-
Editing coming - if they cut all the filler from this evening, this show would have run one hour.
-
We were both wrong, DR Jose. I had the same thinking as you.
-
Hmm...
Was that an upset?
Did anyone care?
And coming upon four hours... Does anyone still care?
-
Thelma. Even though the best edited film I saw was United 93.
-
Was there a clip from PATHS OF GLORY in a montage about America?
Not sure--but there was a clip from NAKED GUN.
-
But Thelma is a good egg and has done some great films.
-
Although, now that I think of it, there was a ton of editing in "The Departed". So.. Ah, well...
-
So it is written, so it shall be done - page fifty-three.
-
MONTAGE A TROIS - the rule that montages must come in threes
(There's a dirty joke in there somewhere)
-
I like Jodie's dress.
-
Time to clap for dead people.
-
The death montage
-
There should be NO SOUND from the audience in the memorium montage.
-
Thelma. Even though the best edited film I saw was United 93.
same here
-
It's like, you're dead but you still don't get as much applause as the more popular dead people.
-
There should be NO SOUND from the audience in the memorium montage.
Well, they're only following the flashing signs.
:-\
-
MONTAGE A TROIS - the rule that montages must come in threes
(There's a dirty joke in there somewhere)
I am glad I re-read that.... For a moment I thought you said something else.... "cough"
-
has anyone spotted a 79?
-
has anyone spotted a 79?
I haven't been looking.
-
Funny stuff, George!!!
-
Nice mention for Basil Poledouris. I'd heard they weren't going to. Interesting to hear the lack of recognition for people like Glenn Ford - very sad, but predictable.
-
Richard Fleischer. Deserved more recognition from the Academy.
-
I had forgotten about both Bruno Kirby and Jack Wild. They were both awfully young to die; anyone remember what killed them?
-
What was the music behind the "In Memorium"?
-
Sounded a bit like LEGENDS OF THE FALL.
-
We are now officially not only the highest posting day, but the highest day by views and/or hits.
-
has anyone spotted a 79?
Yes, they aren't really hidden....there was one on the building during the commercial, there have been some on banners etc...
-
Did they miss anyone? Frankie Laine is debatable, but maybe too recent.
-
The necrology wasn't very moving to me, for some reason.
Composer Shirley Walker wasn't deemed "significant" enough to have been included in the listing. She died within days of Poledouris.
She was a very talented lady.
-
We are now officially not only the highest posting day, but the highest day by views and/or hits.
the most hopping place on the net!
-
No surprise there.
-
Helen!
-
Helen Mirren - if it wasn't Meryl, I'm happy it was Helen - Judy has been up there one too many times.
-
And Best Actor should not be a surprise either.
However.... Best Director and Best Picture... ???
-
That's right, it was Shirley Walker who wasn't included - that would require some intelligence on someone's part.
-
Rushing from living room to bedroom to post, back to living room.
Haven't had a moment to eat a piece of my rum cake yet.
Have stubbed my toe TWICE, dammit!
Well, I've been running from floor to floor!
-
These Brits are so good at their speeches, they just say what's necessary, don't get nuts, like Miss Hudson, and are classy.
-
All this and page fifty-four, too.
-
Who is this STUPID handicapper? That is the nadir of the Oscar cast.
-
How nice to see and hear Helen Mirren... classy, elegant, low-key, speaks with articulation, and (to quote DR MBarnum) just a swell lady!
-
There's a 79 by the Oscars. That's how obvious they are.
-
Yes, he's been very ineffectual.
-
Oscar.com has been updated to reflect Helen Mirren's win (for the Predict the Winners count), but Film Editing hasn't been updated. What's with that?
-
These Brits are so good at their speeches, they just say what's necessary, don't get nuts, like Miss Hudson, and are classy.
There's sloppy nuts and there's good nuts, like little Anna Pacquin when she won for THE PIANO. She was sweet.
-
Let me try again. Quick poll. Just say what you think. Best picture:

GO!

It's midnight here!

OK, folks, it's been fun, but it's 'way past my bedtime for a "school night."
Enjoy the rest of the show!
-
Sunshine
-
Best Film - Babel
-
DEPARTED.
-
I'm going out on a limb and say... Little Miss Sunshine. C'mon, the evening is young, which is more than I can say.
-
I guessed "Letters from Iwo Jima."
-
They're holding Best Director to next-to-last,.
-
I had totally forgotten that Reese was last year's Best Actress.
-
Hooray for Helen!!
-
All right...."The Departed" is my pick, too. (The only one of them I've seen is "Little Miss Sunshine" and I'm appalled it's nominated at all).
-
Best Picture--BABEL
-
How nice to see and hear Helen Mirren... classy, elegant, low-key, speaks with articulation, and (to quote DR MBarnum) just a swell lady!
I totally agree and it is one reason I have always liked her. She is very classy.
-
No surprise there.
-
Forest Whitaker.
-
I'm very disappointed with the Forrest Whitaker win...
-
Mr. Whitaker needs to be played off.
-
You could cut a porterhouse with Reese Witherspoon's chin.
-
and now we have both God and ancestors in the thank you.
And no, I don't have anything against God. Just faux-earnestness.
-
What a truly motley crew.
-
That was funny. :)
-
I'm SO happy he has finally won. At least he's one great director who wasn't denied a competitive Oscar.
-
Lucas and Spielberg could buy and sell us all
-
Sofia Coppola could buy and sell me.
-
Great shot of the Corgis
-
Surprsied that Scorsese has never won an oscar
-
Marty - it was his year - not his best film, as I understand it, but his year.
-
We were just pointing out to Toby and Dylan how good they could look if they stood still for brushing more often.
-
Did DIane Keaton just grab her breasts?
-
"The Departed"
-
I got it right!
-
What was that comment about a movie with a plot?
-
The Departed.
-
I got it right!
I didn't. :(
;)
-
Well, somehow they managed to stretch this show to close to four hours.
-
Well.. On that note...
I'm going to join some friends for an Oscar after-party... back in a few hours.
:)
Laters...
-
Will we never get to page fifty-six?
-
What was that comment about a movie with a plot?
It's the only film he directed that had a plot
-
Blah!
-
Can you imagine when edisaurus and Ben and the like log on in the morning? And we're not finished. There is plenty of programming to make fun of - like the relentless and endless Oscar parties.

All right, this is the last time I let a cat make a decision for me. I mean, he's cute, but he doesn't know anything about movies.
-
Congrats to JMK!
Is that JMK?
-
Wow! I didn't think I fared that well in the pool.
-
I would like to see The Departed.
-
Congratulations to Jkalman123. That's JMK, right?
-
COngrats to DR JMK, if that is indeed you.
-
I agree with Dan..... the West Bank Story film looked like it could be fun to see. And I have a copy of The Departed on DVD, so I'll be watching it. Can't say that I'm topo excited about a lot of the others though.
-
All right, this is the last time I let a cat make a decision for me. I mean, he's cute, but he doesn't know anything about movies.
But what a cutie
-
I'm inspired to see Infernal Affairs, the movie that was The Departed's source. I understand it's far less violent and much better.
-
I would like to get THE QUEEN on dvd when it comes out.
-
Hmm, have not heard of West Bank story.. It does looking interesting.
-
Maybe DR MusicGuy's dog Sugar could pick my predictions for next year.
-
Inspiration isn't the first thing that comes to mind after watching.
Maybe I'd like to see INCONVENIENT TRUTH.
-
Well, to the Esteemed Grande Mensch in the flowing gown, and to all of the other dainty and studly lovelies here in the Living Room, I must bid adieu.
I'll check in tomorrow........... but the only thing that made this Oscar broadcast bearable, was the company of the DRs here! Huzzah for HHW.
(goodnight Lucy...... you could have played all those roles.... at once !)
-
Wow! We had 10.4 inches of snow. I knew it was a lot I didn't know it was that much
-
Will we never get to page fifty-six?
Yes, we will.
-
Sugar has laid on her sofa for most of the evening like so much fish.
-
The leopard-spotted one?
-
Yes, I understand THE DEPARTED is ultra violent, so I put off getting the Blu-ray disc. I'll watch it on HBO-HD and then decide if I want a copy for my library.
-
Agreed, MusicGuy. Posting on here multiplies the fun of watching tenfold.
-
The length of the show was truly absurd. I enjoyed the shadow dancers. Not a single montage was actually needed. They overload the show with those every year.
If they want to pad the show, then show us clips of the nominated films and performances that last more than 20 seconds.
-
Bawbwa Walters is on now - let the games begin.
-
It looks like our winter storm has petered out to some freezing rain that may or may not change over to all rain.
-
Fifty-six pages, can you believe it?
-
All right, I'm going to sleep now. I can't fall asleep at preschool tomorrow or the three-year-olds will bury me in the sand.
Am I the only one here who didn't watch any of the Oscars or nominated movies?
-
Well kids, I'm off to get some sleep. It's been fun
-
Bawbwa Walters is on now - let the games begin.
That was on here before the show
-
And I will say this: Even though this stupid month is two to three days shorter than any other month, we will achieve our best posting month ever as of tomorrow - if tonight continues this way, it will be tonight.
-
If the montages were well done, that would be one thing. Instead it is like a mixture of the most obvious stuff, so that no matter what the "theme" is, they end up showing a scene from CASABLANCA and Jimmy Cagney on the oil tank in WHITE HEAT. Just the same old tropes.
-
I will be very happy to get back to my regulation keyboard tomorrow. I don't type on this laptop very often, and I'm just not used to the touch of the keys on it.
-
Well, I'll leave it up to the night owls and West Coasters to carry on the party.
-
What kind of effort would it take to get to 2,000 posts?
-
60 pages! We want 60!!!
-
What kind of effort would it take to get to 2,000 posts?
That would be another 10 pages!
-
and now we have both God and ancestors in the thank you.
And no, I don't have anything against God. Just faux-earnestness.
Funny...but I thought his speech the most genuine and moving of the evening. Yes, God again. Go figure!
There's just no restraining people of faith!
-
What is the prior record for most pages of posts?
-
Let me be the first ever to say, PAGE 57 DANCE!!!
-
In honor of Heinz 57 Sauce.
-
What is the prior record for most pages of posts?
Last year's Oscar Bash at 41 pages and 1220 posts.
-
Good night, y'all. It's been fun.
-
I just popped back in to say good night. I got several e-mails answered and am now ready to power down and go to bed.
Good night, all, and thanks for a good time!
-
Just got home from another bash.
I swear that next year no matter what part of the telecast is one I am going to bed at 11:00.
They could have started at 8pm instead of the stupid pre show that already has been on E! and TV Guide channels.
Less stupid dance bits, less film tributes other than that i don;t know how else to get the show shorter.
Few surprises
Other than that.
I am going to bed.
My 2 cents
-
Did everyone go potty?
-
Accoarding to what I was keeping tabs on here at work, I got 5 right....
-
I was surprised because the whole time I thought it was Forrest Tucker who had played Idi Amin.
-
Good night Matt and Dan!!!
-
Trivia question....
What was the first oscar winning film to be released on VHS that was closed captioned?
-
Forrest Tucker of course was on Star Trek.
-
GEe only 309 posts until we hit 2000 posts... can we make it?
-
Forrest Tucker of course was on Star Trek.
he was on something else I cant think of what it was....
-
I get him confused with DeForrest Kelly who was so remarkable in ONE FROM THE HEART.
-
He was in some MOTW that the name escapes me at the moment
-
And isn't it Steve and Idi? I'm very confused.
-
Pity the poor person who has to read over 50 pages of post... They will never catch up!
-
I think I can get us to 2,000 on just misidentifying people with "Forest" variants in their name. I got a million of 'em.
-
Too damned long. I only stayed with it to see if Peter O'Toole might eke out a win over Forrest Whitaker. He didn't.
-
Like Forest Sawyer, so beloved to us all from MOMMIE DEAREST.
-
I am leaving page 8.
Hope to catch up by Easter.
Happy St. Pat's to all.
der Brucer
-
Belief that God got you a competitive award bothers me - and I don't try to inflict this on others :) - because it implies that you're somehow more worthy a human being in that god's eyes than your compettition.
-
LOL der brucer!
-
You forgot Forest Hills....
-
Will be back on in a bit. Need to shut down the library...
-
Sir Pogue, long time no see. I'm not one for giving Oscars to people just because they deserved one earlier, which I think happened with Scorcese. I didn't see VENUS, so I don't know the deal there, but I would have given O'Toole the Oscar for THE RULING CLASS, myself. The good thing was Alan Arkin, who I do think deserved one earlier, totall deserved his this year, in my opinion.
-
Belief that God got you a competitive award bothers me - and I don't try to inflict this on others :) - because it implies that you're somehow more worthy a human being in that god's eyes than your compettition.
And probably every other competitor is praying to the same god. Why would he/she/it care one whit about it??
-
Can't see the Steve Forrest for the trees.
-
The first time I became aware of Whittaker was in a film with Jessica Tandy and Hume Cronyn -- '*...batteries not included." He was darned good in it, too.
-
Another page....another post.
1711 and counting.
-
Let me be the first in history to say, Page 58 Dance!!!
-
Another Part of DeForrest was of course the episode of Star Trek written by Lillian Hellman.
-
I am writing a screenplay called THE NUMBER 58. It is about how that number rarely comes up at all in life.
-
Cinquant-otto!
-
Another Part of DeForrest was of course the episode of Star Trek written by Lillian Hellman.
That one is too obscure even for my mad mind.
-
58 is always the answer to "I'm thinking of a whole number between 57 and 59," though.
-
Remember sometimes in 2006, ending an evening with 6 pages of posts? Seems preposterous on an evening like this one.
-
58 is always the answer to "I'm thinking of a whole number between 57 and 59," though.
Astoundingly so. Another curiosity is that it is the absolute value of –58.
Think on that one for awhile!
-
Ron Pulliam, WATER was in Hindi...it was sort of a Canadian/Indian co-production.
-
I got lost in the swirl of posts.
-
I had prayed for February to be a record month for HHW postings. It does work, apparently.
-
I think I need to see Clive Owen in something.
-
It's a dismal year for U.S. moviemaking, apparently.
But a great year for American Film making.
der Brucer
-
Pogue, you have been sorely missed, or missed sorely, whichever applies. We know you're in rehearsal, but you must stop by occasionally and give us updates. I'm sure you've read all fifty-eight pages of posts, yes? And the other 2000 you've missed, yes?
-
I am going to plant a message here on page 58 to see if anyone not on tonight actually reads this far.
Hi, Dear HHW Reader!
Congratulations on making it all the way to page 58 of the Oscar Night posts.
If you read this post, email FJL at 3pm on Monday, and he will be obliged to send you a crisp one dollar bill.
-
A casting suggestion:
Clive Owen in BARNUM
-
Welcome fourteen GUESTS! Who are you people?
-
The Oscars have inspired me to go and watch a DVD...I think it is time for ROBOT MONSTER.
-
When did I first become aware of Whitaker? THE CRYING GAME maybe?
Not a big fan of the guy.
-
Clive Owen in BARNUM
:o ....well, Ok! ;D
If only I were a casting director....
-
MBarnum, I had Forrest Tucker on my brain because there was a movie of his on Fox today. THE ABOMINABLE something. Wondered if you had seen it.
-
It's warm in here.
-
Rodzinski - I have faded folded one dollar bills, but if something crisp is called for, I have some of that crisp lettuce from Iwo Jima.
-
I think I need to see Clive Owen in something.
Yes you do!
-
Oh, yes DR Rodzinski...must be the Abominable Snowman...he made that over in the U.K. right after he filmd The Crawling Eye.
-
And with this post we achieve our new highest posting month since the advent of this board and the history of haineshisway.com, which has been going strong since November of 2001.
I happened to see on a fellow's blog, a fellow who took as his inspiration (he would never admit it, but it's quite true) this here site and my daily notes, who was BRAGGING, and I mean BRAGGING how in the history of his "blog" (I think it's been going for around two years now, but maybe less) how he's now had 500,000 hits. We've achieved over 100,000 hits six times, for 600,000 hits. That's six times in five years - if we added all the hits over that period of time, it would be close to four million, maybe a bit more. That's something worth bragging about for a little upstart site such as ours.
-
I'm still full from the meal I ate at three-thirty.
-
Congratulations BK.
I think I will go watch some M SQUAD episodes, instead.
-
And to think, we have another hour and forty-five minutes to go. Anyone watching Miss Walters?
-
I find myself wondering what MusicGuy would do if Cason took him up on that offer to go to Europe, or for that matter if Tobey Maguire took him up on that offer with the butter.
-
So it is written, so it shall be done - page fifty-nine. We'll get to sixty easily.
-
Yeah, MBarnum. It was a snowy movie. My digital cable sometimes won't give me the full title of a movie when I click on "Info" stuff gets cut off and all I could see was "The Abominable..."
-
I find myself wondering what MusicGuy would do if Cason took him up on that offer to go to Europe, or for that matter if Tobey Maguire took him up on that offer with the butter.
Or if I took him up on his offer of marriage.
-
I'm going to take a quick shower.
-
May I be the first in the history of HHW to say Page 59 Dance!!!
-
And to think, we have another hour and forty-five minutes to go. Anyone watching Miss Walters?
I am. I like Eddie Murphy's interview.
-
Helen Mirren's interview was fun, too. :)
-
Europe and butter sound much more intense than marriage, though.
-
I'm going to take a quick shower.
I just realized something. I haven't taken a shower today (that's not what I just realized) but when I take a shower, I always empty the kitty litter beforehand, and I just realized that that's what I forgot to do! So, I'm going to empty the kitty litter and take a shower...as late as it is. Also, I'm a little cold and that will warm me up, very nicely.
-
An odd thought: If the tally for today keeps going up and up, aren't we making it more difficult to break the record in the future? :_ :) :)
-
Is this a slow news day here at haineshisway.com?
-
Only kidding.
-
Be back a little later. :)
-
Yes, I should think this record would be difficult to top, but then I thought last year's would be difficult to top.
-
In honor of the American films that won, will we ever see post #1776?
-
Here's a question, BK, I'd like you to consider when you come back from your shower.
The digital cable systems, such as Time Warner here, have info pages for movies. They assign a star rating to every movie.
My question, or series of questions is, why is this in the best interests of the cable company or the various networks to supply these ratings? Would it not be better just to give a recap of a movie and who is in it, the basic info, let the viewers make up their own minds?
The reason I ask is, if you think about it, these ratings are completely anonymous and not backed up with any insight. They follow roughly along with Maltin's book ratings with a few discrepancies. TV shows are not rated in this manner. Could you imagine? This episode of "According to Jim" is a 2-star episode? I wonder who decided that my TV should make anonymous qualitative judgments about movies.
-
BK - Not sure if you saw my post earlier. Melinda Tanner from your old LACC days was working on music with Skip today. She mentioned that her very first song sung at a New York City audition many years ago was "I See Rainbows."
-
I think so, as edisaurus has joined us - she's currently on page seven so she'll be posting on Tuesday.
-
Note that FJL's last post was #1758, which will be a big part of my film, THE NUMBER 58.
-
Of course, with today's NYC weather, "Icy Rainbows" would be more appropriate.
-
I think those star ratings are stupid, stupid, stupid. I dislike anonymity and the stars are, most likely, cadged from other sources or websites - in other words, it's a star system by amateurs - what else is new?
-
And the winner for Moist, Creative Dish:
Flan's Labyrinth!
I'd like to thank the Academy of HHW, my muse: FJL, my Agent, Orange, my DH who now is suffering from carpal flan hand as a result of drawing the labyrinth, and of course, God, who makes it all possible.
-
I see Melinda once in a blue moon and once in a green moon. Nice person - she was ahead of me at LACC by a year or two. I had no memory that she sang I See Rainbows. According to a novel I read, Kritzer Time, Benjamin Kritzer wrote that song. It's even in the little "scrapbook" included at the end, and it's on the little Kritzer Time CD - I'm in the process of putting together the complete Kritzer songs CD and I think we'll be having copies for sale at a very, very low price on the kritzerland.com site - stay tuned.
-
There were over 2 dozen dishes, so they didn't even make it to flan #2. The people at work tomorrow will have dessert with lunch!
-
Well, I can understand the DREAMGIRLS backlash. But I don't understand how PAN'S LABYRINTH lost Best Foreign Pic.
I have a hunch that more and more we think of Mexican film makers as "family" - Pan's was marketed more as a "native " film than as a "foreign import" - it is showing in mall multiplexes, not just art houses.
der Brucer
-
I will never be able to catch up with all these posts!
-
Indeed, and well said. Amateurish and anonymous. Probably some kid sits there with a Maltin book and just types in what he sees, adjusting a little if he likes, say, DePalma's SCARFACE a little more than Leonard does.
But what intrigues me is the psychology of why it is even done. Theoretically, you wouldn't want to plant anything in a system that would cause a viewer not to watch a certain movie, which a low rating might do.
-
And the winner for Moist, Creative Dish:
Flan's Labyrinth!
I'd like to thank the Academy of HHW, my muse: FJL, my Agent, Orange, my DH who now is suffering from carpal flan hand as a result of drawing the labyrinth, and of course, God, who makes it all possible.
Moist creative, huh? Was that intentional?
-
And one for moistness
-
Running...out...of... steam...
-
Some of the most creative entries:
An Inconvenient Truth Serum: shots of vanilla-flavored vodka
Little Miss Moonshine: more alcohol
Life Recycled: An empty Life cereal box on it's side with a hole cut in it and a dish of part mix inserted.
Little Miss Sunshine God Damn F%*king Good Chicken (This won the other award, for best tasting dish)
King Prawns of Scotland
King Crab of Scotland Cakes
The Queen Brie
Ann's Labyrinth
The Queen's Pound Cake (a delicious cake garnished with real Englsih pound coins)
Letters from Iwo Jima cookies (I almost did this, too)
Boratatouille (as suggested on HHW!)
Another Borat one with an impossibly long but funny name
That's all I can thing of right now!
-
But if I may, I'd love to be the first in the dawn of HHW civilization to say PAGE 60 DANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Moist creative, huh? Was that intentional?
Yes, hence the comma after moist!
-
The Moist Happy Fella - the new musical version of "They Really Knew What They Wanted"
-
We reached 1776!
-
I totally agree and it is one reason I have always liked her. She is very classy.
Well, she has gone buck naked on stage!

Yes, hence the comma after moist!
I knew you wouldn't let me down. I only feared the comma too was unintentional!
The dish I would have made was "Halfass-themed Random Montage Chili." You just throw anything you can think of in there.

I'm so glad we had this time together.
(some lines I don't remember)
Seems we just get started and before you know it
comes the time we have to say Good Night!
-
Good night, all.
Page 60 - wow!

Last year's Oscar Bash at 41 pages and 1220 posts.
I think we can say we safely smashed it...
-
Did anyone get the trivia question i posted a few pages back?
-
Trivia question....
What was the first oscar winning film to be released on VHS that was closed captioned?
You mean this one? I have no idea. :-\
-
I watched the Oscars on a projection TV that had a 110" screen. The room wasn't even big enough for it to project to its full capacity. I used to think that I would never want a gigantic screen TV, but now...
It was quite impressive!
-
We won a copy of the special edition of "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest". Looks like it's got lots of goodies on there!
-
Yes, I should think this record would be difficult to top, but then I thought last year's would be difficult to top.
We nearly topped it the other day... or we came fairly close..
-
I'd like to thank the Academy of HHW, my muse: FJL, my Agent, Orange, my DH who now is suffering from carpal flan hand as a result of drawing the labyrinth, and of course, God, who makes it all possible.

It's going to take me all day tomorrow to catch up. I have an early session so I'm going to bed.
Very impressive posting!!
I have been reading your entries---I've compiled about half of them, to my DH and we've been laughing out loud!

My DH has just informed me that DH stands for "Designated Hitter" in American League baseball. He never watches sports on TV so it always surprises me that he knows this stuff.
-
The answer is:
Close Encounters of the Third Kind.....
It was the first film to be released on VHS that had close captioning encoded in the video release in 1980. IT won an oscar for editing.
-
Oh jeez---thanks, George! I didn't even realize I'd reached a millstone!
-
Gee maybe I can get to 6200....

Surely we can do something more.

But everyone logged in would have to post.

No way am I going to read all those posts.
My Oscar comment. I'm VERY pleased that the ordinary songs from Dreamgirls did not win. (Though each is better than any of last year's three nominees).
No will they issue the Melissa Etheridge track!
-
Or at least be within striking distance...

I have reached a new plateau... I hope to reach 10,000 by Labor Day!
And Congrats to you, DakotCelt!

Hello Tom... I agree with your comments on the songs.

Last years nominees were pretty pathetic to say the least

There is only ONE Kimmel and it's not Jimmy.

Can we say "Welcome to Page 62"!!!

Also missing a release is the song from "Casino Royale".
-
I think you'll have to buy the "single" for Etheridge, Tom.
I don't believe "An Inconvenient Truth" will have a soundtrack.

Page 62 Dance!!! historical!

So it is written, so it shall be done - page sixty-two.

I love the song from "Cars". But then I do have a bias towards Randy Newman as a songwriter.

I also thought Elton John was nominated for Circle of Life from the Lion King

DR Tomovoz - The song from "An Inconvenient Truth" has been released as a CD single here in the states, and it's also available on iTunes.
The song from "Casino Royale" by Chris Cornell is also available on iTunes - well, it was "leaked" to iTunes last year. However, it's not exactly the version used in the movie. However, it will also be appearing on Chris Cornell's upcoming solo CD.
And...
I actually have both of them. Due to the iTunes format, the only way I could share them with you would be to burn a disc with them on it, and send it to you. Would you like that?

Only 33 to go.

Wow! I had a nice pizza and a glass of icy cold beer. Quite the treat.
However, I did have cheesy bread and pizza and diet Dr. Pepper earlier in the evening, so..
-
Right Ron
-
cheesy bread is good
-
So...
Who got kicked off of "Grease..." tonight?
;D

George, how is it going?
I don't know their names yet. Ashley S. is singing "These Boots are Made for Walking." She's not too bad.
-
And speaking of tomorrow, I'm thinking that if I get up early, I may head down to the park with my camera. I haven't taken pics of Central Park in the snow before. Should be beautiful.

YES PLEASE DR JOSE. I'M SHOUTING> Thank you. I knew there was a reason thave between courses lurk!
You're most welcome.
However, if you have iTunes - and it is a free program for both PCs and Macs - I'd be more than happy to gift it to you. So...
-
We did it!!! Congrats Ron for hitting 2000!
-
Ron did it!! ;D
-
Hey, remember when we frowned upon single word posts?
;)
-
We are amazing!
-
You're most welcome.
However, if you have iTunes - and it is a free program for both PCs and Macs - I'd be more than happy to gift it to you. So...
GIFT is not a verb!!
;)
Okay, I just looked it up HERE (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/gift) and it is. My bad.
-
I know but vanity does need to be enhanced from time to time
-
DR Tomovoz - Although I do have to wonder if those songs are not yet available Down Under legally.
-
no bk yet...
-
I wonder what his reaction will be...
-
We had a delightful Stir Fry chicken dish for our main course tonight. This will be followed by fresh pineapple with a custard sauce which DP Colin is preparing as I type.
Please Mr Custard I don't wanna go.
-
Not only that....but I hit two milestones this evening....I hit 10,400 and then 10,500 posts. Wowzer.
What a night.
And now...sweet folks....it's off to bed!
G'night!
-
sounds delicious...
-
GIFT is not a verb!!
;)
Well.. Then I shall never GIFT you.
Nanny-nanny boo-boo!
:P
-
Page 68 dance!! Historical!
-
I wonder what his reaction will be...
He should pee his pants.
-
I actually have both of them. Due to the iTunes format, the only way I could share them with you would be to burn a disc with them on it, and send it to you. Would you like that?
:)
OFFICER!!!!!!!!

Good night Ron....
Congrats on hitting 2000 and reaching a new plateau
-
Page 68 - I like it. Reminds me of the year I was born. '68. 1968, that is.
-
Well.. Then I shall never GIFT you.
Nanny-nanny boo-boo!
:P
I changed my post. I looked it up HERE (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/gift) and it is a verb. Sorry. I work with people who use "source" as a verb. As in, "I need to source these titles." :P
And although source has a verb definition, also, it just doesn't seem right. ::)
-
It was a wild ride tonight... and it will not be capped for a long time... Perhaps next year...
-
WE passed the page of my birth year already..
-
I have put on over 200 posts tonight
-
SWW will be very surprised
Shall I awaken him every ten minutes and give him an update?
der Brucer
-
Wonder if i could hit 6300
-
Wrong! It was bananas not pineapple and the custard was sprinkled with nutmeg.
-
Nah, let him sleep and he can see when he awakens
-
The Moist Happy Fella
I think that's in DR elmore's VCR.
-
Almost a Cat Stevens Banapple Gas reference.
-
I would not want to disturb his beauty sleep
-
Wonder how close we are to page 69
-
DR Tomovoz - Do you have iTunes?
-
Amazing...
-
bk, we hit 2000
-
I don't think I'll try for another 358 posts tonight!
-
DR Tomovoz - Please give DP Colin a big hug for/from me. And be sure to pass on my best to Magnus and Fosca too.
-
we smashed last year by over 800 posts
-
Colin's stirfry sounds wonderful
-
4 to 6300
-

-
Will do Jose.
Magnus and Fosca often ask after you. They are very well. They will be 12 in March.
-

6300 - vanity post
-
OH!
DR Tomovoz - There is a slight possibility I may be heading back Down Under late this summer with Universal Studios Japan again. I'm not counting my chickens until they're hatched, but just in case...
Is my room ready?
;)
-
we smashed last year by over 800 posts
REMARKABLE!! ;D
-
Pity the poor fools who have to read 69 pages tomorrow
-
Hug has been delived DR Jose. Good grief - intimacy in this house.
-
Page 69 Dance!
69...my favorite number. ;)
-
It is really remarkable George..
-
REMARKABLE!! ;D
Remember that "Little Rascals" episode with that kid who would just say.. "Remarkable"?
-
My favorite is 70
-
Your Room is indeed Ready Jose. Fosca thinks it is her room though!
-
I have not seen Little Rascals in years
-
Remember that "Little Rascals" episode with that kid who would just say.. "Remarkable"?
That's EXACTLY what I was quoting!! ;D ReMAAAARKable!!
-
that was a fun show..
-
I wonder if bk has caught his breath from us hitting 2000+ posts
-
I'm typing as fast as I can!
Was that the original title for "The Paper Chase"?
The TV show was based on the movie based on a novel - all Paper Chase!
der Brucer
-
Because my DVR split "G:YTOTIW" into two parts, I lost one person's song. :P
-
Of course Fosca does rule the house anyway. Unlike her namesake, she has expectations!
-
wonder if we will see these numbers again...
-
I go away for a few minutes and come back and I have to catch up on seven pages of posts. New notes are up - and I'll lock this down on page 69! How appropriate! I don't know why, but it just is.
-
have not seen the Grease program yet
