Well, you've read the notes, the notes were dry and then wet, and now it is time for you to post until the dry and wet cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: SOBRIQUET!
-
And now - Dino at the piano.
Don't forget, still time to buy CDs - if you missed the list, it's on page one of yeseterday's posts. Several titles are close to being sold out.
-
In addition to Ann, a very happy haineshisway.com birthday wish to SteveO.
-
Bk, I hope the fires do not affect you.
-
Happy Birthday SteveO!
-
I'm awake, but in a stupor...what's the latest on those fires?
-
Happy Birthday Ann and I hope you have a wonderful day with friends and families full of fun and surprises!
-
I want to be errant and truant, too!
-
have not heard
note Naomi, I have changed my avatar...
-
Yes, DR DakotaCelt, and a beauteous thing it is, too...
-
I can send a kitty to keep you from being errant and truant! THey will want to play with the fishies
-
I have not had a chance to read the last 7 pages from yesterday...
Did we get any reports on the S&V premiere?
-
Please do, DR DakotaCelt! I have a dog currently, but I also LOVE kitties!
-
Something about that avatar makes me think of The Wizard of Oz...
Poppies....Poppies will make her sleep!
-
what kind of dog do you have?
-
bwahahahahahah
-
note Naomi
Ah, how clever of you...
Putting today's WOD [sobriquet] into action! :)
-
Zach is a mutt from the shelter...from what I can tell, part lab, part Newfoundland. He came completely trained, with hand signals, no less!? Can't understand why anyone would have invested in that training and then left him in a shelter...but I lucked out! He's a very good boy.
-
Well, I have achieved a longtime goal of being the last poster - yesterday. It will probably never happen again, as I am rarely up at this unseemly hour.
-
I'm a wussburger of the highest order. I think once we take it to page 2, I'm gonna have to conk out.
-
Glad he has a very good home then... It is sad to see a very well trained dog abandoned. ..My landlord does nto permit dogs but I do miss them. Love animals
-
Is is March or April that comes "in like a lion, out like a lamb"?
-
Me also... pen and Paper are calling... however i have to elaborate on my favorite Shakespearean perfromances...
Love the bard!
-
Yes, the place I am currently renting advertised as "NO PETS," but I charmed the landlord into accepting me with my dog. I think a lot of landlords are flexible that way, but I understand why they can be wary.
-
Long live the Bard, indeed!
-
yes, it does...
-
I saw a very interesting production of the Scottish play where the set consisted of a huge sheet. That's it. They used stage magic to configure the sheet into all of the required settings, creating shapes and whole environments with, I guess, wires and various mechanisms. It was very interesting! But I remember nothing about the acting. Oops!
-
TOD reminds me that I need to view Shakespeare in Love again...haven't seen it for years.
-
OK. Let's take this baby to page 2...
-
Almost there...
-
And....scene!
-
DR DakotaCelt, you are a dear, but I am drooping like a Gazelle in a sauna.
Must. Sleep.
I hope you won't feel abandoned...
-
I loved it when the Guthrie threater in St. Paul did a touring company of A Midsummers Night's Dream. They mixed regional flavour with a touch of modern and classic interpretation. It was excellent
I have seen Romeo and Juliet done regionally with less than stellar performance..
-
nn singdaw!
-
Sweet dreams!!
-
FAvorite Shakespearean movies....
My all-time favorite is Ziffereli's Romeo and Juliet.. Beautiful film, beautiful acting and great directing.
I have seen renditions of Hamlet, Henry V and the Scottish Play on the silver screen and on Masterpiece theatre. I woudl have to say Henry V is the better of the lot.
-
My all-time favorite is Ziffereli's Romeo and Juliet.. Beautiful film, beautiful acting and great directing.
And Leonard Whiting's backside ain't bad, neither! ;)
-
DR JoseSPiano: really, really like the "new" old avatar. :)
-
DR elmore3003, we shall now add US Air to DR Dan (the Man)'s official sh*t list.
-
Happy Birthday to DR ANN in her new abode w/DR JED!
-
Lovely new avatar for DR DAKOTACELT.
AND a return of a favorite from DR JOSE!! Direct from the pit!!! It always makes me laugh in 42ND STREET when Maggie says: "Stay away from the musicians. There's a reason why they keep 'em in a pit!"
-
So says Robert's Rules of Order - I didn't know such a thing was possible - and depending upon the charter/by-laws/constitution of the organization, it might not be:
By-laws should include all the rules that are of such importance that they cannot be changed in any way without previous notice, except those placed in the constitution and the rules of order. Few societies adopt any special rules of order of their own under that name, contenting themselves with putting a few such rules in their by-laws and then adopting some standard work on parliamentary law as their authority. When a society is incorporated the charter may take the place of the constitution, and in such a case the by-laws would contain all the rules of the society, except those in the charter that cannot be changed without previous notice. The by-laws should always provide for their amendment as shown in 68, and also for a quorum,64. If it is desired to permit the suspension of any by-law it should be specifically provided for. By-laws, except those relating to business procedure, cannot be suspended, unless they expressly provide for their suspension. By-laws in the nature of rules of order may be suspended by a two-thirds vote, as stated in 22.

Marie Osmond divorcing.....that is all.

Question....now that I have a W I D E S C R E E N television, should I watch my DVD movies in letterbox or should I use an aspect that fills the screen?

TOD:
Favorite Shakespeare movies:
HENRY V - with Mr Kenneth Branagh and a wonderful Patrick Doyle score
ROMEO & JULIET - beautiful costumes, music, and performers!
FORBIDDEN PLANET
I don't think I have seen a live performance of a Shakespeare play that I really enjoyed. Most of them have been "improved" with directors' interpretations or inspirations (I hate Libby Appel).
Of course we are doing A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM in July - and it doesn't seem to be exactly what I thought it would be....but maybe the director can pull off what she is planning. I am not confident that this show can be cast from our talent pool.
BUT - we shall see and time will tell.
-
Richard III (Sir Ian McKellen).
West Side Story.

Thunder and rain this morning....and it's a work day. :(
-
Have a good trip home, DR CILLA LIZ....wave as you fly over Indiana!
-
Yes it has been almost two years since the Indianapolis/HHW/Mamma Mia gathering, DR GINNY. And I think I lost all my photos when my computer crashed.
We also had a couple of mini gatherings at WOW!!!
-
Good morning, all! Air ticket purchased, so that piece of hell over for the day. I shall shortly hie meself to Toyland for the remainder of the day.
TOD:
Play production:
MERCHANT OF VENICE: An excellent off-off-Broadway production in the late 1980s which cast my wonderful friend Annette Helde as Portia and Stanley Tucci as Bassanio's friend who elopes with Shylock's daughter.
KING LEAR: Peter Hall's company in London at the Old Vic.
Film:
TWELFTH NIGHT: Trevor Nunn's film with Ben Kingsley
KING LEAR: PBS/BBC priduction with Ian Holm and my friend Finbar Lynch
HENRY V: both Branagh and Olivier
ROMEO & JULIET: Zeffirelli. great Nino Rota score
THE TAMING OF THE SHREW: Zeffirelli, Taylor, Burton, and a greater Nino Rota score
TITUS: Julie Taymor's sick film of a really sick play
-
Forgot about TITUS.....
Thanks again for THE FANTASTICKS, DR ELMORE!
-
Off to work....in the rain....with Trish.
-
Well it hasn't been the best week for me. But I am here in Montreal visiting family.
I eventually bought a new cell phone, but a day later I found the old one. It was in my refridgerator!
Elmoore have you looked in the refrisgerator for the missing remote control if you haven't found it yet?
-
Forgot about TITUS.....
Thanks again for THE FANTASTICKS, DR ELMORE!
DR JRand56, you're quite welcome. I'm sorry that it took me so long to get it to you!

Question....now that I have a W I D E S C R E E N television, should I watch my DVD movies in letterbox or should I use an aspect that fills the screen?
Most DVDs that are widescreen will fit up the screen (some films will still have a small amount of black bars at the top.
As for anything that his full screen ratio it is a matter of taste. If you don't mind the bars on either side of the frame (left/right) or you can it widscreen where the image is slightly stretch. I opt for the latter.

Medical update:
I have a pinched nerve and I am in constant pain. It has been very difficult to walk and when I do I limp/hbobble along. They are going to set up an MRI for me and I hope there is something they can do for me other than surgery.
-
Good Morning!
Good Day!
And Good Riddance!
-Well, not really, "Good Riddance"... I was just going for the alliteration. In any case...
Once I'm back down at the rehearsal studios and on a break, I shall continue posting. Or something like that.
-Why do I suspect that a cup of coffee is in my near future.
So...
Laters...
-
DR Jose, I've always liked that avatar. It's good to see it back. We need to plan a music order.
DR Michael Shayne, I'm so sorry about your health problem. I too hope there are other alternatives to surgery. when is the MRI?
-
Health vibes to Michael S
-
Question....now that I have a W I D E S C R E E N television, should I watch my DVD movies in letterbox or should I use an aspect that fills the screen?
If the widescreen movies have anamorphic enhancement, NO! Using those stretch modes creates video artifacts that can ruin the picture quality. They also can lop off parts of the picture (either sides or top and bottom depending on which stretch or zoom modes you use.) The anamorphic enhancement eliminates as much of the letterboxing as you need to eliminate to get the most out of the enhanced DVD.
Now, if the movie is non-anamorphic letterbox (like a lot of MGM's 1.66:1 movies such as THE MIRACLE WORKER or HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES are), then I generally will stretch the picture using the least objectionable mode.
If a film is on DVD in full frame but there's obviously a lot of top and bottom information that would (or should) have been matted off (like TARANTULA or DARBY O'GILL AND THE LITTLE PEOPLE), I'll use a slight zoom for that, too to better mirror the way the movie would have looked in a theater.
-
Good morning!
It's a beautiful day out and promises to be a bit warmer with highs in the low-to-mid 70s. Depending on how my day goes today, I may go out later and clean the gutter on the front of the house. They really need cleaning again.
-
So sorry to read about the pinched nerve, DR Michael Shayne. Hope the doctors can set things right soon. I can't imagine what pain like that would be.
-
Am enjoying the new avatars of DRs. DR DakotaCelt has joined the club. Congratulations!
-
I did get that awful kitchen floor mopped this morning before logging on the internet. At least THAT chore is behind me for another week.
-
I don't have any TV shows on the DVR to watch, but I noticed that HBO is showing RUMOR HAS IT tonight with Jennifer Aniston, Shirley MacLaine, and Kevin Costner. I will more than likely watch that on HBO-HD.
I have that GREY'S ANATOMY episode from the 2nd season set cued up ready to go, and I'll watch that while cooking and eating lunch. I have the rest of 16 BLOCKS to rewatch this afternoon, too, before finding something else to watch, probably LAYER CAKE.
-
Of course, I don't know what the mail might bring. I'm expecting HAPPY FEET on Blu-ray to come in the mail either today or Monday. Looking forward to that.
-
I'm also enjoying the avatar changes. Perhaps we should make it a quarterly thing...we could put that in the by-laws ;)
-
I'm at the airport in Atlanta. I'm REALLY glad I left early. It took me an hour from the time I arrived at the airport to get through security! I thought everyone would be coming to Atlanta, not fleeing the city. You'd think Sherman was marching into town...
-
I had a very nice walk from the main terminal to terminal D. It's 5000 feet, so I figure I've walked a mile today. There was a really nice African Sculpture exhibit between the main terminal and terminal T
-
I was actually hoping to get on an earlier flight to Milwaukee, but there is no earlier flight to Milwaukee on Midwest. Oh well, there willbe hot chocolate chip cookies to reward me for my walk.
-
DR Elmore, I made the mistake of putting the garbage can right next to the counter in my kitchen. One day I walked in the kitchen and there was Boo, knocking things off the counter and into the garbage! I have no idea what, if anything, I've lost, but it was pretty funny.

If anyone is feeding their cats dry Science Diet Presciption m/d - it's been recalled because the wheat gluten in it came from the same company as the tainted food
-
Good Morning FJL, wish I could joing you all for brunch tomorrow.
-
FJL, I thought of you yesterday as we discussed filing tax returns for aliens
-
It's an airport frenzy!!!!!
-
Cilla - Tax returns and aliens - my two favorite subjects - business-wise at any rate! :)
Safe travel vibes, Cilla.
-
Thanks!
-
When we were doing Last Starfighter, I think it was the assistant director who pointed out (humorously) that we have to be careful to follow the Actors equity special proviisons in the section of the code called "aliens" since several of the actors were doubling as aliens.
-
Hi, Cillaliz!
It's funny thinking of you being in Atlanta while i'm in NY. We need to correct that soon and be in the same place at the same time!
-
Good morning, FJL! I hope you weren't having nightmares about the Invasion of the Hainsies/Kimlets!
-
Hi, Cillaliz!
It's funny thinking of you being in Atlanta while i'm in NY. We need to correct that soon and be in the same place at the same time!
Yes, we will have to remedy that! I've enjoyed it here, I didn't have time to do much but study. I did make it to Olympic Centennial Park, but that was about it.
-
Just talked to my mom. She doesn't sound too good, but she could still be hoarse and tired from being sick the other night. She said they are on the road and she was able to eat a little last night and a little this morning.
-
Whereas bk has shown the "in progress" edited Brain in LA
and Whereas he gave me permission to show some of it to Jose when he was in Atlanta but we never had the time
I thereby propose to bring a copy of said theatrical production with me for the entertainment and enlightenment of the brunch attendees, who all followed the production saga and wanted to be there.
(If that's OK with bk...)
-
OHHHH I wish I could see it...
-
We were up until 3AM visiting former Atlanta filmmaking friends. I woke up at 8:30 and couldn't get back to sleep again.
We're meeting up with members of the Randy Newman list for the 3PM matinee today. (My former list mates.) I think I will be sleeping through our film. Looking forward to it!
-
Ooohhh...Peter's up and wants to use the computer.
I do have to thank Jose again for those amazing cookies. The 3 of us shared one cookie and were in NIRVANA!
-
Edi - No invasion nightmares at all, really looking forward to it.
Re playing some entertainment - If it's on DVD, it should work fine. Our VCR has been acting up terribly.
-
After a hellish series of running around in circles between 84th Street and Lincoln Center, where I learned the Broadway local was not running, I figured the hell with it and returned home. Luckily I have things to work on here.
-
Happy Birthday to DR Ann!!
-
Happiest of Birthdays to E & T DR ANN . Have you caught up yet?
-
Happy Birthday, Ann!!!!
-
DR elmore - Well, the A Train is running local today. ;)
*And when the train pulled into both Columbus Circle and Times Square, the men and women in the burgundy jackets were out in force helping out all the confused tourists - and locals too!
-
DR Cillaliz - Enjoy those cookies!
-
SINGDAW - The delivery came! Thanks so much.
So at least you'll be here at the party in spirit!
-
DR elmore - Well, the A Train is running local today. ;)

After all the madness just getting to Lincoln Center, I headed back uptown! Can we see DARK AT THE TOP OF THE STAIRS the week I get back?
[move=left,scroll,6,transparent,100%]!!!!!!!!!!!! Happy Birthday to DR Ann! Come back, all is forgiven!!!!!!!!!!!!

A local community theater production of THE SCOTTISH PLAY was amazing to me! Except for a weak Lady MacDuff (who isn't in the play much anyway), I just loved the production done on a unit set that resembled Stonehenge.
As for filmed versions of the plays, my favorite is and continues to be Branagh's MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING. I also think his HAMLET is unmatched and have great admiration for his HENRY V.
I think the MGM 1953 JULIUS CAESAR is brilliant, a film I always enjoy revisiting.
The 1968 ROMEO & JULIET is lovely and the 1967 THE TAMING OF THE SHREW is lively and fun.
And, of course, OLIVIER's Shakespeare productions are stupendous, my favorite being RICHARD III.
-
After all the madness just getting to Lincoln Center, I headed back uptown! Can we see DARK AT THE TOP OF THE STAIRS the week I get back?
Mais, bien sûr!
-
Heading down now to get lunch started and make a start to my viewing today.
WBBL.

Saturday morning greetings! My 3-day weekend had a lovely start last night at Books & Co, which was packed to hear Jeannette Walls talk about her book The Glass Castle. Only one of my girlfriends was able to join me and we had to stand throughout. We had a bite to eat at Panera afterwards and a nice visit.
When I got home our DS Rob was here - he'd come in after work to pick up some mail and sign some tax papers. I bribed him to stay overnight by promising pecan waffles for breakfast, which we've all just enjoyed. He'll head back to Cincinnati soon.
-
Hi, Cillaliz!
It's funny thinking of you being in Atlanta while i'm in NY. We need to correct that soon and be in the same place at the same time!
Maybe the two of you could meet here in Cincinnati and we could all go to Graeter's (http://www.graeters.com/about.cfm) for turtle sundaes!
-
Happy Birthday Ann!
-
Happiest of birthdays to DR Ann! We miss you.
-
As for the Topic of the Day...
I remember a great "condensed" version of Twelfth Night that I saw on a high school field trip to Baltimore.
I also liked the Twelfth Night that was presented by the Shakespeare Theatre in DC a couple of seasons back. Karen Ziemba was Viola.
-
I'm up, I'm up. Looks like a pretty day out.
-
On the flip side...
I remember seeing a rather extravagantly produced community theatre production of The Scottish Play many years ago. It actually was a pretty good production, however... The title character was played by a woman, and I could never really tell if the director chose to hide or not hide that fact.
-
I don't know if I got totally accurate information, but I'm told that the fire was started by two teen boys and that they were caught.
-
Oh... And then there was a production of King Lear that my college's theatre department presented. It was retitled just Lear since Lear was being played by a woman. Eh... Although, I have heard of some major productions using the same "device". Eh...
-
TOD - Shakespeare has been on my mind a lot this week, because last Sunday we met our DS Rob's new girlfriend. She's a ballet major at CCM and one of the classes she's taking this quarter is Shakespeare's plays.
When I was in junior high and high school in Detroit, I attended many performances at Wayne State University's Hilberry Theatre (http://www.hilberry.com/building.html). Fitting today's topic, I remember The Taming of the Shrew, The Tempest, and A Midsummer Night's Dream, which were all wonderful.
When I took an acting class in college, the instructor said at the beginning of the semester that if felt he could cast us in Shakespeare for our final scenes, we'd have done well in the class. For my final scene, I was cast as Viola in Twelfth Night, which remains one of my favorite Shakespeare plays.
And Shakespeare in Love is one of my all-time favorite movies.
-
Although, I did love Pat Carroll's turn as Falstaff at the Shakespeare Theatre in DC.
*And Pat Carroll is also one of the friendliest people I've ever met. She used to work in Richmond semi-regularly doing Nunsense a couple of times. And I was always amazed at how sprightly and mobile she was on stage considering she used a cane offstage.
-
Safe travel vibes Cilla...
-
...And there was a beautiful and magical of A Midsummer Night's Dream presented by The National Players on the lawn of the Olney Theatre Center in Maryland.
-
And Leonard Whiting's backside ain't bad, neither! ;)
Here, here.!
Romeo and Juliet is not only my favorite Shakespeare play on film, but is among my top 10 favorite movies. The score, the costumes, the set design, the acting, the song "What is A Youth" etc. etc., -- ahhhh, so romantic ....and so tragic...it really impressed me as a young junior high school student way back then and has held up well cause I still love it...
Shakespeare in Love, while not by him, is a clever take on him and his writing and life so should count... so I really enjoyed that one and put it on the list...
-
Oh... And there was that thoroughly delightful production of the musical Two Gentlemen of Verona in Central Park two summers ago. :)
-
Cool avatar, DR Jose -- very artistic with the colors, pose and lighting .. and representative of you and your art...so it is very nice....but where are your hands (?!..hmmmm?) shouldn't they be up on the keyboard? ... but then maybe not, your house, your rules....
-
I would like to see more theatrical productions of Shakespeare someday. My goal is to eventually go to the Shakespearean festival they have in lower Ontario in the summer. I would love to see the following:
The Tempest
Othello
Merchant of Venice
Merry Wives of Windsor
Hamlet
Scottish Play
Julius Ceasar
Taming of the Shrew
I do recall seeing a television broadcast of Julius Ceasar many years ago in high school and I wonder if it was not the version that DR Elmore mentioned. I am intrigued by the comments about Laurence Olivier's Shakespearean films will search to see if they are available anywhere. I do vaguely remember seeing Richard III but not enough to comment.
I have seen West Side Story and I forgot it had elements of Shakespeare in it. It reminded me of Romeo and Juliet. I greatly enjoyed it. Another older film that I liked was Lion in Winter
-
And, look, DCelt has joined the new avatar par-tay! It's cool looking, too! Looks like an album cover from the 1960s..
-
Cool avatar, DR Jose -- very artistic with the colors, pose and lighting .. and representative of you and your art...so it is very nice....but where are your hands (?!..hmmmm?) shouldn't they be up on the keyboard? ... but then maybe not, your house, your rules....
Thanks, DR Miss Karen et other DRs. Fun with the self-timer.
As for where my hands were/are... Read the caption. ;) -It was Camelot, so there were plenty of long "breaks".
-
This may come as a surprise to everyone, but I have never seen a Shakespearean play.
And the only movie base on one of his plays that I have seen is the 1948 Macbeth...and I skipped through most of it as I just wanted to see the scenes that Peggy Webber was in. She later went on to make some wonderful films like THE SPACE CHILDREN and THE SCREAMING SKULL.
-
I did see a version of A Midsummer Night's Dream with Michelle Phillips in and it was okay but not great. It was lacking the magic of a shakespearean drama. At times I felt they were just reciting the lines and not injecting "acting" into the roles. The interpretation was at times. It was entertaining but it is not what I call a classic. I found the modern interpretation to be rather interesting at times.
EVen though the story of Tristan and Isolde is not Shakespearean drama I still find elements of Shakespeare in the telling of the legend.
-
This may come as a surprise to everyone, but I have never seen a Shakespearean play.
Well... ::)

Well, must finish my cup of java and eat some breakfast as today Dog Bosco gets to go for his yearly check-up...which means that I have now had him for a year!!! And a wonderful year it has been ;D

Mikey, I'd bet the farm that no one at all is surprised by your confession. However, if you've seen FORBIDDEN PLANET, you've seen a wonderful adaptation of Shakespeare's The Tempest. Was the suicide rate among the faculties of your schools more than unusually high?
It's hard to call it a film but the wonderful AJ Antoon production of Much Ado About Nothing with Sam Waterston, Barney Hughes, and Kathleen Widdoes for the Public Theatre may be my absolute favorite Shakespeare performance.
I do not recall mentioning Julius Caesar; I think it's the dullest tragedy the man wrote.
-
Happy Birthday Ann!!!

Change is good.
-That is all.

HHW Headquarters
Gratuitous Posting Department
Awards Division
DR Francois ~
Congratulations! You are the winner of the Gratuitous Poster of the Day Award for the Month of March. It was very close, and was a tough decision -- coming down between you and DR Naomi, with that valiant effort of his/her's this early AM. But after careful review, you are the photo-finish winner ahead of DRs Naomi, Mr P (past winner), DCelt and MzKaren. Your effort yesterday is the clear winner.
Your posting frenzy of yesterday contained all of the classic elements of the classic Gratuitous Poster: multiple postings in a row, trivial postings to yourself and yourself alone, postings that at times are entertaining but nonetheless are still pointless postings, postings divided up and spread out word by word to create multiple postings, posting for your own personal posting amusement, postings posted for posting's sake, and postings posted only to pad the posting tally to please the Grand-Pooh-Pah Poster with no regard for irritating fellow posters (actually taking great pleasure in irritating said fellow posters) who have to then spend hours trying to get caught up reading all the mulitple postings.
Again, congratulations! What is your sparkling prize? This letter! That's right, this letter is for you and can be cut, pasted, reduced to wallet size, copied, and laminated. That way you can carry it with you always (unless some smuck lifts your wallet) and have proof for family, friends and passer-bys that you were the HHW Gratuitous Poster of the Day in March of 2007.
Well done, Gratuitous Poster of the Day! Keep up the good work!
Sincerely,
The HHW Gratuitous Poster Award Division

Lovely photos of Mssrs. Besco & Freddy.
DR MBARNUM....I am sure that you were able to abscond with the table of Ms Ann Robinson because she had to come all the way from Ophicious and Ms Laurie Mitchell only had to come from Venus.
However I must say that Ms Robinson never had a weapon of such power as the Beta Disentegrator owned by Ms Mitchell....even though I always wondered what happened to the Alpha Disentegrator and why the Beta made a sound like the starter on a Studebaker when she pressed the RED button.

No problem, DR ELMORE....I don't need it until September.....try to remember....

I move we suspend all by-laws.

Saturday is a good day for a coup.

DR JRand - would you like replacement copies of the photos from our Mamma Mia and WoW gatherings? They're still on my computer.

Welll, almost time for lunch... So...

Advice needed:
Last night, an e-mail was sent to all board members of the alum association stating that the votes were in and the overwhelming majority had voted yes to me and my plans. My suspicion is that the troublemaker gal is furiously at home trying to find the bylaws so she can attempt to nullify the vote. Since I've been told the bylaws were suspended years ago and since for the last five years I as a board member have never been asked to vote on anything (if there are bylaws then there are bylaws and they can't be used when everyone feels like it and not used when they don't), I'd assume she either won't find them or that it won't matter.
The question is should I write a brief note to everyone thanking them and saying positive things about what we hope to achieve? Basically saying that I'm acknowledging the vote and that we'll now begin our restructuring.

Enjoy those cookies!
Are they Levain's? Or something DR JoseSPiano whipped up special in his own kitchen?
DR Cillaliz is getting a cookie bonus day today.

So at least you'll be here at the party in spirit!

DR Ginny, you are TORTURING me!!! ;)

It was retitled just Lear since Lear was being played by a woman.
Now, if that production were playing on Long Island, they could've gotten Carrie Fischer to play the title role in her honey-bun hairdoo and turned it into a Star Wars convention.

Sorry, DR singdaw - no harm intended!

I vote with JRand56: much cleaner to start your own org. Take those you want from the old group who are willing to join you. Let the old die from attrition. No mess. The only downside would be that those rebel few might be re-energized to fight back, but they might do that anyway. imho.

DR Miss Karen: MOST amusing.
Love ya! :):)

DR MBarnum: LOVE the pic. Your furry family is in fine fettle!

I am not familiar with CA open meeting laws but the troublemaker does not have a leg to stand on. With the bylaws null and void he could create a new group from the old one and choose his people.

It was discussed with the head of the theatre department, who felt having two organizations would be too confusing for the LACC foundation, of which the alum association is an adjunct (and therefore get to use their non-profit status, which is very important for fund raising). Had the vote gone differently, I might have.
But, they can't have it both ways - there are bylaws or there aren't and it can't be at their whim - and since they've simply been operating without them for so long (at some point years ago there was a vote to "suspend" the bylaws), the vote was not only for me to take over, but for me to be able to completely restructure the organization the way I want. Hence, I think when that is all figured out, there will be a new set of bylaws. But, for now (and all voters knew this going in), I am the president, and I am about to choose a governing board - the current board members are no longer part of it, but if they want to stay and help they can be part of what we'll call our advisory committee.
I did write the note acknowledging the vote, stated my aims simply, said that I was not an autocrat, and that everyone's input would be welcome, but that in me they've got a leader who's going to make things happen.

BK--I say if you're going to assume power, assume it fast and with an iron lock grip. Put some actions into play asap and set your plans into motion fast enough to set the troublemaker's head spinning. By the time she digs up the defunct by-laws, you'll be three moves ahead of her.
That's what I say,

bk, if they are a nonprofit, they have to have bylaws filed somewhere. If they don't, their goose is cooked.
I will admit I am not familiar with CA law, but from my experiences in working with a non-profit in ND we had to have bylaws and a letter of certification filed with the state of ND to certify we were non-profit. That was a challenge to get those ducks in a row.
THus, you have carte blanche to form a new organization or reform it and institute a new set of bylaws. If LACC cannot prove that they have bylaws filed with them or the state, the Alumni group is technically null and void and is not operating within the law. Perhaps Cilla could provide more insight but I am not sure what her specialization in law is.
-
Happy birthday, Ann!
-
Going to check on some laws... I am curoius now about bk's situation.

OMG! OMG! OMG!
GRATUITOUS!!!! If you knew how much THEY pay me here while I post on HHW during work... all night long!....
You do like me! You do! Thank you très very beaucoup!
I'm blushing! DR MBarnum showed me how and that's the only very moment when I SLIGHTLY do look like him! A stud of a moment for me!
March went out like a lion!
My head is schpining! Thanks for the "ananas"!

Heather is not here!
She's on the hill with Gene!

Yeah, definitely slept in a little -- though seeing as how I got off work this morning at around 7, I'm not doing too bad...
-

Good question Cason....
btw, I like your quote in your siggie... No truer words spoken. Art does touch people in ways that words can't.

I just watched SHE'S THE MAN, the highschool adaptation of Twelfth Night, by the writers of 10 THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU, the highschool adaptation of The Taming of the Shrew. I think they, and CLUELESS, are wonderful revisions of the original works they're based on and it was a nice way to while away the afternoon.

What else?! ;)
-
Congratulations, DR François, on your great honor!
Assorted sobriquets to you!!
-
The alumni association is an adjunct to the LACC foundation, which is a non-profit organization. I'm not sure how this was all set up but I know that the alumni group receives it's non-profitness from having checks written to the foundation and hence the foundation disburses the money where the alumni group tells them to. In all my years of sitting on the board (I've only attended three meetings, because they were so ill run), I have never seen a report of any kind. Long ago, we used to get minutes of the meetings via mail, but not for ages. I don't even think they come via e-mail anymore. I am certain that whatever bylaws there are/were they haven't been adhered to since the beginning. To invoke them now is a joke.
-
Hello Heather, George!
Good mor afternoon! ;)

And a VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO DR ANN!! ;D

that is a pity both for the group and for the members who want change.

DS Rob helped me this afternoon to rearrange my study/computer area into a more ergonomic set-up. He also installed my "new" printer, which is actually the one that came with the MacBook that DH Richard and I bought last summer. It's pretty nifty - a printer/copier/scanner all in one.

Gratuitous Post # 199...
-
Post # 200!
;)

Topic of the Day:
Zeffirelli's The Taming of the Shrew (I also really liked the "Shrew" episode from Moonlighting)
I was most fortunate to see Kiss Me, Kate in London with the World's Sexiest Man Alive (WSMA in HHW lingo), Brent Barrett!
When I was going to Western Washington University, they did a production of The Scottish Play that was incredible...except the guy playing Macduff. I don't know if he was directed like this or if he was like this in real life, but he walked and sounded EXACTLY like John Wayne! Everything else was wonderful except this guy...it was really weird.
West Side Story, the movie. I've only seen one live (pretty good) high school production.
-
Harlequin Productions (http://www.harlequinproductions.org/), a local semi-professional theater group, here in Olympia, wrote their own musical version of A Rock 'N Roll Twelfth Night[/u] (http://rr12n.org/home.html). They've even made two different cast recordings and it's really good...in my humble opinion.
-
George, I recall that episode also of Moonlighting. That was fun show.
-
Thanks George!

Is is March or April that comes "in like a lion, out like a lamb"?
It's confusing!
Is it a ménagerie or a ménage à Troye?

Well...I must be off. My sister and my niece are back from Vegas and I told them to get me some keychains! I also need to stop off at work because I've copied some CDs and made some booklets for them. I want to cut the booklets on the paper cutter so that they have very straight edges.

I thereby propose to bring a copy of said theatrical production with me for the entertainment and enlightenment of the brunch attendees, who all followed the production saga and wanted to be there.

Had a lovely afternoon with some good viewing and also on the phone with some lively conversations.
-
This may come as a surprise to everyone, but I have never seen a Shakespearean play.
I love you Michael Barnum! You make me laugh!!

Ooooh! F is for Fagin!!

I began my afternoon viewing with the episode of GREY'S ANATOMY shown last night on ABC. Only, I watched it from the second season DVD set. This was the episode with Natalie Cole playing the patient with a fork in her neck, Derek and Meredith deciding to be friends, and George not speaking to Meredith. It also reintroduced Denny to the show and Izzy's growing attachment to him.
It's an episode that never ceases to make me cry, several times in fact. Just part of GREY'S ANATOMY's stunning second season.
-
I wish I was being that clever. :)
Stop hurting yourself! ;)
-
Oh! I "see" Ann!!!!
-
In the mood for another episode, I went back a few episodes to the one which introduced Dr. McSteamy, Mark Sloan, to the series as he arrives to take Addison back to NYC with him. Eric Dane made such an impression as Sloan that he was quickly added to the group of regulars in Season 3. Wise move.
This was the episode that ended in Meredith and George having their one night together, a disastrous encounter that led to an estrangement for a time.

I finished my afternoon completing 16 BLOCKS which I had begun rewatching yesterday. The plot has lots of holes, but it's still compelling viewing and I did enjoy it as much the second time through even knowing how it ended.
Always enjoy David Morse in bad guy roles. He does very well with them. David Zayas has a nice part in this, too.

Greetings to all the wonderful HHW folk! Thanks for everyone who has sent me birthday wishes, this really is the most friendly place on the all the internet.
Life has become incredibly busy around here! We're all happily moved into the house, and loving it more than we thought possible. The wedding is exactly six weeks from today! I can hardly believe that it's coming up so quickly. I've been busier than busy with plans and decorations and decisions and all such things. As much as I'm looking forward to it, I think I will be happy when it is over and we can simply live our lives.
On top of the wedding and moving activities, I am also very (I hope) close to a new job I have been wanting for a long time. I applied for it back in late November, and had all but given hope of hearing from them. Two weeks ago, out of the blue, they called me in for an interview. The interview went very very well, and last I heard from them on Wednesday, they were calling references. I should hear something in the next week. What a wonderful birthday/wedding gift that would be.
Tonight Jed is taking me to a fondue restaurant called The Melting Pot for my birthday. A cheese fondue course, salad, meat variety fondue in broth for the main course, and a chocolate fondue course for dessert. It all sounds too too delicious, and I can't wait! Nothing like celebrating a birthday with food.
I see some new names around here. So, I will say my own personal welcome to DRs Cason, Singdew, and Miss Karen...at least, those are the newbies I've seen in today's posts. For those of you I know, I LOVE the new avitar pics I've seen.
I hope everything is well for all of you. I promise I will try to get back here when things settle down again. In the meantime-
Health vibes to Michael and everyone else who needs them
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Travel vibes to Cillaliz and everyone else who needs them
And general good thoughts and positive vibes to one and all and also all and one.
wonder if it is a harbinger of something..
You do it!
I don't want any trouble! ;)
-
I'd like a harbinger with swiss cheese, hold the onions
-
Or a gutterball turkey
-
I am not that kind of lady...
-
Was looking for my mind and, according to this site, it was in the gutter!
And I meant that in the nicest possible way -- a compliment not a libelous statement (in case the HHW Libelous Postings Dept. folks are working on a Saturday afternoon)...
well onions and garlic will keep the vampires away
Is that the name of a bird?!
Pa-shaw!!
The turkey had a rough life in order to end up in the gutter!
I took it as such, of (cheval de) course! ;)
Congratulations on your pineapple award François. I wonder if there is a pineapple poll tax. (An obscure Ballet reference).
Choreography by John Cranko, I believe, and music by Sir Arthur Sullivan, arranged by Charles Mackerras, based on the Bab Ballads of WS Gilbert. I love this ballet!!!!
TOD
I have the same Favorite Shakespeare movie as Matt H..
Branagh's version of Much Ado About Nothing I think it is just a fabulous production, and the final shot is wonderful
Close seconds would be the before mentioned Romeo & Juliet, and it's musical cousin West Side Story
I also very much enjoyed Othello in which Branagh played Iago (did I spell that right? probably not, knowing me) I don't think he directed that one though
His Hamlet and Henry V also excellent
I loved Burton's & Taylor's Taming of the Shrew and there was movie version of Twelvth Nihgt about 5 or six years ago I quite enjoyed although I cannot remember who was in it at the moment
I also liked the Mel Gibson version of Hamlet...not so much for Gibson as for the actress who played Gertrude...oh lordy I cn see her face and cannot remember her name,...she layed Robin Williams mother in Garp...
to quite our former VP Dan Quayle (when HE was trying to recite "A mind is a terrible thing to waste")
It's a terrible thing to lose one's mind....
Oh but I disgree .. (how unlike me!)
Ther used to be Shahkespeare festival in Stratfor CT, a n easy drive from my abopde and in high school I was drived there several times and saw exellent productions of Hamlet, The Merchant of Venice and Midsummer's Night Dream
OH! I liked Kevin Kline in the movie version of A Midsummer;s Night Dream but wasn't crazy about the overall movie
.
Oh, so touching - a mother preferring her son to have a dirty mind than a sincere soul. :)
I wish all parents were so considerate.
MR BK - I think swift action is a good idea. It is done....so move ahead.
I am with DR DAKOTACELT....by-laws can be suspended for a specified length of time, but cannot be suspended indefinitely. I would think that a suspension of the by-laws for years really nullifies the constitution/charter of the organization.
Please! You're spoiling him! ;)
I'm back from dinner with my dear friend Bruce Pomach of the Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization. We dished, we laughed, all during a lovely meal at 63rd & Ninth Avenue, across from Lincoln Center. The food was god, the portions generous.
BK, they have macaroni and cheese on the menu. Also Bruce loved The Brain and praised your writing. He likes your way with the ins and outs of a tune.
I think I may watch the first two episodes of THE TUDORS on Showtime On Demand now. It's either that or a new DVD of Mozart's Nozze di Figaro. Decisions, decisions . . .
Your Darling however will be wearing a black Fedora
I am home! The flight from Atlanta to Milwaukee was fine. The flight from Milwaukee was a rollercoaster! We went over and then sort of through what was a pretty bad storm on the ground. We landed just after it had passed. I didn't hit a storm again until I was almost in Sioux City.
GO OHIO STATE!!!! They just made it to the finals!!! That's my team.
Good Evening!
Well, the run-thru went very well. So well, in fact, that we're having a shorter day of rehearsal tomorrow. We'll be doing a "straight six" - 10:00am-4:00pm - with a 20 minute break in the middle. Alas, this means my chances of making it brunch at Chez FJL have been slimmed to almost none.
I just got the rehearsal schedule for tomorrow, and all it says is "10:00am - Full Company", and that's it. So, I'm guessing we'll be working spots throughout the show, and just kind of free-forming for the day.
*However, since all the music staff will be in attendance tomorrow, there is a small chance I may be able to get away. But, I really won't know until I'm in rehearsal tomorrow morning whether or not I can get away for an hour or so. Stay tuned.
-
Talked to my mom tonight. She's feeling a bit better, but still not 100%. They did drive most of the day, however and were on their way to dinner when I called so that's a good sign. They were going to stop here tomorrow, but I don't think they will be that far by then, so I may print off my tickets and go see Obama
-
Thanks for all the travel vibes, I think it helped us through those rollercoaster moments, although loving rollercoasters as I do, it was rather fun
DR Miss Karen - Ahem! Since your "HHW God status" has just been recently[/b] attained, I must respectfully ask that you refrain from bestowing any honors and/or demotions on your fellow DRs until the HHW Bylaws have been reviewed.* Yes, you are currently are an "HHW God(dess)", but please keep in mind that the concept of seniority still applies on this forum.
I would also like to take this time to remind you - of inform you, as the case may be - that DR Ron Pulliam was and is the "first HHW God". Attention must be paid.
*And if recall correctly, you have queried in many a post as to the whereabouts of the HHW Guidebook and Decoder Ring. Are you sure we have your current address on file?
In other news...
I believe I'm just going to have a nice quiet evening here at the apartment. Watch some TV. Maybe do some laundry. Maybe take care of some cleaning. We shall see.
-
DR Ann - Thanks for sharing all your good news with us.
And I'm sure you and Jed will LOVE The Melting Pot. -Sounds like he's going for the full fondue meal experience. -And the one thing I like about The Melting Pot chain - well, two things - is that each restaurant is set up slightly differently, so that if you go to another Melting Pot in another city, you get a different "experience". The other thing I like is that since the fondue services are set up for each course, the pacing of the meal is leisurely. Plenty of time for digesting before the next pot of cheese, oil, broth or chocolate is ready for dipping into.
-
Hmm... I think I will get at least one load of laundry done tonight. Next week is going to be semi-crazy - three days of EPAs for Gypsy, and then four days up at Westport. And I'll definitely need clean clothes for my days up in the country. ;)
DR Cillaliz - Welcome Home!
So... How were the chocolate chip cookies? :)
The cookies were good. I discovered on the last flight (only an hour total) that they have prebaked cookies and warm them up. I was on a long flight once and they did actually bake them on the plane. They still tasted wondeful though. They were warm and tasty. Two per flight = FOUR chocolate chip cookies.
The best thing though are the wide leather seats, two on a side. They are like first class seats and are extremely comfortable.
-
Glad you arrived safely home. I bet Boo and Callie were glad to see you!
Actually you can blame Jose, but that doesn't mean Jose did it. There is definitely a difference. :)
Besides, it's too late...DR Francois has already made his wallet-size copy -- and it's been laminated and everything, so it's official
My cat sitter is great but she always forgets something. She didn't check my front porch to see if there was anything to bring in (Like the newspaper) anyway, 2 boxes of books were delivered by UPS and left on the porch. Both were soaking wet, but wonders of wonders none of the books were damaged. Since most of them were for my new practice and were very expensive, I am very relieved
Feeling essentially awful today, with a headache, sore throat, dizziness, and the freezing/burning up sensation. I've been asleep for most of the past 21 hours, and I'm pretty sure it's strep. A friend is feeling the same way, so we're probably going to the emergency room tomorrow to get checked out. Vibes for friend Matthew and I would be GREATLY appreciated.
Hope you're all doing well!
Sir Thomas Boleyn to Henry VIII: "Majesty, no one has calves like yours" was my favorite moment in episode one of THE TUDORS, which is well written and quite well cast. Henry Cavill, sex symbol of I CAPTURE THE CASTLE, is the hottie in this series, with the most nudity, and that leads me to the sex life of the 16th Century. The sex in this series is very Cinemax At Night, and I wonder how accurate this can be with bared bosoms and bottoms. This is a period where there was no plumbing, people bathed once a year if lucky, most childbirth deaths were due to unsanitary conditions and people had to smell really badly. Wasn't sex more groping and grappling under garments than a softcore and tastefully nude romp? I also think everyone looks too clean.
That said, I'm curious to know where the plot will go even though I know the history and politics quite well. Henry Cavill is Charles Brandon, Henry's best friend who secretly married Mary Tudor, Henry's sister (Richard Todd and Glynis Johns in Disney's wonderful THE SWORD AND THE ROSE; why isn't that on DVD?), but so far there's no Mary Tudor; he's dallying with the daughter of the Duke of Buckingham, played by Stephen Waddington, whom I last saw beheaded in SLEEPY HOLLOW.
But it's fun; I'll stick with it. Great opening sequence, to boot.
-
Advice needed:
Last night, an e-mail was sent to all board members of the alum association stating that the votes were in and the overwhelming majority had voted yes to me and my plans. My suspicion is that the troublemaker gal is furiously at home trying to find the bylaws so she can attempt to nullify the vote. Since I've been told the bylaws were suspended years ago and since for the last five years I as a board member have never been asked to vote on anything (if there are bylaws then there are bylaws and they can't be used when everyone feels like it and not used when they don't), I'd assume she either won't find them or that it won't matter.
The question is should I write a brief note to everyone thanking them and saying positive things about what we hope to achieve? Basically saying that I'm acknowledging the vote and that we'll now begin our restructuring.
Yes, by all means carry on. If the troublemaker lady tries to usurp things then then cross that bridge when and if you come up to it. Who knows, maybe you can win her over with you charm and new ideas!
GOOD JOB VIBES ANN!
-
Michael S-CONTINUED PINCH NERVE VIBES! I didnt know surgery was even an option. First try physical therapy, it helped my neck.
-
Thank you FJL. Keith really needs them too. Every time he takes Sherlock out (it must be on a leash), Sherlock playfully jumps, bites, and scratches him, just like a little puppy. Only he isnt a little pup anymore and Keiths hands and arms are a mess.
Cilla-I cant believe you didnt get sick on the plane. You are so lucky. I would have been terribly ill. One of the first things I do after getting my seat it to make sure there is a barf bag.
DR Elmore-Congrats on getting your ticket. I hope you managed a decent price.
Bruce-I hope everything settles down & works out to your satisfaction.
DR MICHAEL SHAYNE,
So sorry about your back problems. Have you tried an osteopath? My back and neck were injured some years ago and I could not get along without osteopathic treatment. I find it most helpful!
Sorry -- I must've missed it!
Let's see - that picture was taken at our first rehearsal with the "Brain" prototype. It basically looked like a tiny pup tent and it had this little yellow plastic construction hat in it for Egbert. Sadly it fell out within the first 20 minutes, so while BK was working with other folks, Egbert, myself, and our assistant stage manager were just goofing around working hard. So, we thought it'd be fun to take silly pictures, one of which is this one -- me being a "sexy" construction worker, and what I am holding is a part of my belt, as if I were about to take it off...but really it just looks like I'm holding a shiv or a screwdriver, ready to shank someone. Blame it on the angle!
(that's what she said)
I almost forgot to wish DR Ann a happy brithday, so Happy Birthday!
Indeed! HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANN!
It's actually raining too much here, flood warnings etc, but i was amazed at how green everything was when I got home. It was still brown and looked like the end of winter when I left. When I got home the grass is green, leaves are popping out and the flowers are coming up.
Alice Blues Gone! :)
François, I believe you are dilerious.
Isn't it the middle of the night there?
-
François, I believe you are delerious.
Isn't it the middle of the night there?
It's actually something like 4:55 am!
It's pot-sible! ;)
-
The word for Francois is deleterious. :)
-
Either that, or you're not eating the mushrooms that come from the supermarket!
-
I of course meant delicious, it came out deleterious.
-
François, I believe you are dilerious.
Isn't it the middle of the night there?
In The Still Of The Night!
-
I know, nobody's asking me (That would BE the day! :D) but I'm with you on that one!
I'll even say that I found it totally BORING!
And I like emperors (the animal!!) and tap dancing and songs and "écologie" and good feelings!
Boring! ;)
Thanks DR Francois, I'll wait and tune in when it's on HBO or something similar
-
The word for Francois is deleterious. :)
François Who?
François Premier?
François Mitterrand?
François Perier?
Saint François D'Assise?
(WHO said "The Sissy"?)
etc, etc, etc....
-
Maybe he's dilarious, a cross between deleterious and hilarious, as in performer Lea Dilarious.
-
In The Still Of The Night!
Yep, most of us up here in the country have Stills in our backyards. That might explain some of your posts! :)
-
Thanks DR Francois, I'll wait and tune in when it's on HBO or something similar
THE film to see is
THE LIVES OF OTHERS!
It sure deserves its OSCAR!
-
Lea Dilarious.
Hilarious!
[not to be confused with Hillary]
-
Or confused with Hildy from On the Town
-
We have stills in Cognac and we have stills in theater lobbies!
Amongst other places!
Elisa has window stills... I believe! No?! Oh, well!
-
Would love to sit up yukking with y'all, but tomorrow looms, long and early!
Sweet dreams to all!
-
Maybe he's dilarious, a cross between deleterious and hilarious, as in performer Lea Dilarious.
Lea sure gets me CONFUSED! And... I'm a lesbian! ;)
-
Would love to sit up yukking with y'all, but tomorrow looms, long and early!
Sweet dreams to all!
Bonnet de nuit!
Euh... bonne nuit!!
-
Would love to sit up yukking with y'all, but tomorrow looms, long and early!
Sweet dreams to all!
Sweet Dreams Are Made Of These!
-
I'm up, I'm up...
Well, I guess that explains what he is holding.
[/i]
-
The Lives Of Others!
I repeat; The Lives Of Others!
-
Well, I guess that explains what he is holding.
[/i]
I have been waiting for that one for SO LONG, if I may say so!
Thank you, TCB! I am not disap-pointed!! ;)
-
Art touches people in ways that words can't and my goal in life is to change my name to Art.
-
The Lives Of Others!
I repeat; The Lives Of Others!
Thank god it is not Days of our Lives..
-
Well, I'm already sleepy, so...
Goodnight.
-
Thank god it is not Days of our Lives..
Well... it could be titled that way too, matter of fact! But it's a historical thriller!
-
Well, I'm already sleepy, so...
Goodnight.
No use being bashful about it!
Buenas noches!
If June is bustin' out all over, it must be friend of DR CP:
Miss June (You too can have a lovely bust) Wilkinson
How did SHE get into the movies? :o
-
Hmmmm....I seem to be enjoying that picture way too much!
-
Art touches people in ways that words can't and my goal in life is to change my name to Art.
LOL!!!
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
Cason, did you get the part in The Full Monty?
-
If you can't be an Art be an Art Supporter.
-
I love art of all sorts but my passion is theatre and photography...
-
Cason, did you get the part in The Full Monty?
Nope. :(
But hey -- it means a better opportunity is coming, that's what I think!
-
If you can't be an Art be an Art Supporter.
Support his quest to touch people?
-
I think that might be a felony...
-
Tonight has been a very strange night for viewing stuff. When I first fired up the home theater and checked the DVR, I noticed that I had recorded DR. NO from one of the Encores channels. The last time this was on, I was blown out of my seat by the surround sound track which had been repurposed from the original sounds stems. (I'm assuming this is now what is on the newly remastered Ultimate Edition of DR. NO availble now).
So, I had about 25 minutes until RUMOR HAS IT came on, so I watched the first 20 minutes or so of DR. NO. Well, they were using the old mono mix (which is on the DVD that I have). I watched it anyway until the HBO mnovie began.
-
Support his quest to touch people?
Yea. Sure. ;D
When it comes to art, we're the first hogs to the trough. 8)
-
I started watching RUMOR HAS IT (okay movie so far, nothing stupendous; Shirley MacLaine stealing it, of course). About half an hour in, my friend John calls wanting to come over to have a movie night. I set the DVR to record RUMOR HAS IT so I could finish it tomorrow, and told John to come over.
-
Nope. :(
But hey -- it means a better opportunity is coming, that's what I think!
I am sorry to hear that you did not get the part. Your mom and I even tried long distance hypnosis....
I like your attitude.... Good luck good sir!
-
If you can't be an Art be an Art Supporter.
I would rather be athletic.
[/i]
-
I am a firm believer of the arts for they make the world a far richer place. However, the definition of art is in the eye of the beholders and there are some things that people consider art taht I think is "What were they thinking?"
-
I would rather be athletic.
[/i]
LOL....nobody could say it like Eve Arden....she was our Miss Brooks, English teacher extraordinaire!!! ;D
-
JRand, I have a confession....
I have nearly said several snarky Jack Deveraux comments due to your first name but I have bit my tongue. I blame Matt!
-
He wanted to see a Blu-ray disc. The only one he's watched at my house all the way through was TERMINATOR 2 which was probably (along with TALLEDEGA NIGHTS) the most disappointing Blu-ray transfer I own. Looks fine but the dimensionality is barely a step up from the superb standard edition of T2. So, he wanted to see something that would really pop.
Naturally, I suggested CASINO ROYALE, but he had just watched the SD version within the last week and so didn't want to watch the whole thing again so soon.
So, we selected BLAZING SADDLES. Even though the film was made in 1974, the Warners Blu-ray transfer is really superb. Except for the stock footage that's used in the film, blown up so it could be cropped to fit the rest of the Panavision footage (and which looks washed out and grainy), the movie looks brand new, and he was very impressed with how sharp and clean it looked.
-
I can't take the blame. I'm talking movies here!
-
Has anyone ever seen "The Madness of King George?"
I was watching it earlier tonight. Helen Mirren is truly an amazing actress.
-
I can't take the blame. I'm talking movies here!
Matt Ashford!
-
After BLAZING SADDLES was over, I did put in Blu-ray version CASINO ROYALE and showed off some of the eye popping sequences in the film. He was most impressed with the title sequence which looks amazingly like 3-D even without polarized glasses. We also watched the chase after the credits, some of the Bahamas sequence, and some of the poker sequence, all of which have great color intensity and great depth of field.
-
I can't take the blame. I'm talking movies here!
Actually your comments have been interesting. I watched Talledega Nights. What a waste of a perfectly good DVD!
-
Matt Ashford!
There are lots of Matts. Got to be specific.
-
I have always liked Blazing Saddles. I read a while back that the Library of Congress added it to their collection to preservation.
-
Actually your comments have been interesting. I watched Talledega Nights. What a waste of a perfectly good DVD!
Well, it's beyond silly and perfectly ridiculous, but for someone who's lived among NASCAR fans and in the home of NASCAR his whole life, there was a lot to laugh at.
-
I saw Talledega Nights over christmas and the only one laughing was my one sister. My dad was not impressed. I found Cannonball Run and Smokey and the Bandit far more entertaining than Talledega Nights.
-
I think YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN holds up better than BLAZING SADDLES (both released in 1974), but Madelaine Kahn is brilliant in both of them.
-
And I despise both of those films and don't find them very funny at all. Different strokes for sure! :D
-
I am not a NASCAR fan. The noise of the races on the telly is painful for me due to the nature of my hearing loss.
-
I also noticed on the DVR that I had recorded one of the CRIME DOCTOR features from TCM during the last 24 hours. I'll try to get to it tomorrow, too. I do want to finish RUMOR HAS IT tomorrow first thing.
-
My all-time favorite farcical movie is "Monty Python's Holy Grail"
-
I am not a NASCAR fan. The noise of the races on the telly is painful for me due to the nature of my hearing loss.
I'm no fan either. But I sure have known dozens of them in my lifetime.
-
I did like 6-Pack, which was a racing movie.
-
With GREASE not on tomorrow night (or ever again), that frees up an hour of prime time to watch some DVDs tomorrow, too.
I got a new Criterion DVD OVERLORD today which I've never seen. It's a war film (WW II), so I will probably try to get to it at some point tomorrow.
-
I'm no fan either. But I sure have known dozens of them in my lifetime.
Cool...
I am more familiar with the Rodeo Circuit...It just boils down to where you are
-
LOL....nobody could say it like Eve Arden....she was our Miss Brooks, English teacher extraordinaire!!! ;D
How true........how true!
Just heard on the radio that a touring show, Urban Cowboy, is coming to FArgo. Any familiar with this musical?
Interesting another movie - musical tie-in
I did not mind the movie version of Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. Dolly Parton I thought did a good job.
-
From friends I know who saw it, a lousy show.
I didn't like the movie much either.
Some more than others.
-
Heading off to bed now.
Good night!
-
I had forgotten Robert Osborne, the host on Turner Classic Movies, used to be an actor...I just saw him in an episode of THE BEVERLY HILLBILLYS on one of those dollar DVDs....you know what, he was actually quite a good looking young man back in 1962!
-
Just stopped in to catch up and thought I'd post one more time in March.
-
Ok, two more times....Callie says it's time for me to go to sleep so good night.
-
Are we at 500 yet?
-
I will pass on Urban Cowboy then... Was nto a fan of the movie either.
-
Yes, and we've passed it
-
I wonder what hijinks will turn up tomorrow on the board....
-
Why wait until tomorrow?
We still have a ways to go before today is over (at least here on the ol' West Coast)!
-
Just stopped in to catch up and thought I'd post one more time in March.
Well, I am in April now, and I just feel like a fool! :)
More like the Mad Hatter! Reading that section/pages of postings around 8-ish tonight makes me think I just sat down at the Mad Tea Party! You guys are too much -- what a hoot!!! ;D To quote Johnny Carson "That's some wild, wacky stuff."
-
How is April treating you so far, Francois?
Better than June! April's so sweet! April showers me with gifts while June keeps bursting in! ???
See, I feel like a fool and act like a fool!
JUT found this typo on the programme of this past Friday "Friday Night Is Musi Night" of the BBC Concert Orchestra!
I am NOT making it up!
Maybe the two of you could meet here in Cincinnati and we could all go to Graeter's (http://www.graeters.com/about.cfm) for turtle sundaes!
Sold! My family is in Marion, but I love Cincinatti, too! (Rookwood Pottery, Mt. Adamsn etc...)
Well, it's more like a pot pot than a tea pot! ;D
As Cillaliz is so fond of reminding -- this is a FAMILY site... ;)
As Cillaliz is so fond of reminding -- this is a FAMILY site... ;)
Yes, and I am the Dirty Minded French uncle! There!
(Well, don't tell Cillaliz, but I doubt that Calli talked to her! Cats don't talk! Except if they're from Cheshire!
She must have been using the same tea pot as ours! :D)
-
Are they Levain's?
Levain's. And yes, we came home and the three of us worked our way through part of another one!
I don't think that I'll have any problem keeping Heather from heading up the hill with Gene...
-
Happy Birthday, Ann!!
-
Let them eat cake!
For some reason, after reading this little thread, I had the image of the Pillsbury Doughboy dressed up as Napoleon...
-
You don't know women!! ;)
But I know Gene.
-
What do you say?
Ann is celebrating her birthday with the Pillsbury Doughboy?
Not nice to insult Jed that way! No! Not nice!
-
Alright - time to go hop in the shower before work. Nothing like heading into work at 12:30 AM!
-
But I know Gene.
Oh! You mean he auditionned for The Full Kelly too?! ;)
-
Alright - time to go hop in the shower before work. Nothing like heading into work at 12:30 AM!
I know what you mean! It's 7:34 am here and I'm off the hook at 8:00 am!
Happy (April) shower!
April Showers bring May flowers!
You mean immigrants?!
-
What do you do for a living, DR Francois?
Hotel night auditor! :P
-
isn't it also a pastry?
Yes, that what I meant! Very rich! (Or very Rice, as the BBC typist whould write!!)
-
April Showers bring May flowers!
Isn't that the boat der Brucer sailed over on? Or was it the Pinta? No, wait he posted a picture of the Ark that day -- never mind....
-
Hey! I just said "hotel night auditor"! I was NOT trying to be insulting! LOL!
-
If not, maybe someone can cut and paste it or send it to her via PM, since she may not be looking at the past pages.
I would like to order some CD's, but now my PayPal account will be defunct until I get new credit cards to replace the stolen ones.
bk, if I gave you a list, would you hold some out for me, or could I send you a check? Or give you some cash, if you come to our screening?
-
Isn't that the boat der Brucer sailed over on? Or was it the Pinta? No, wait he posted a picture of the Ark that day -- never mind....
Der Brucer NEVER sailed! He WALKED over the ocean!
And they called him "Bruce Goose"! :o ;D
-
Poor DR Edi won't know what hit her when she gets to the 8-ish o'clock section of tonight's postings (The Mad Tea Party section) -- looks like she's only at about 5:30 pm right now....
Will do my best...
-
Allo??? Anyone out there?
-
I see bk and Ann are here.... Hello to you both...
-
Back from the concert, which was fun, and there was a silent auction and I won two count them two items. The notes will probably go up late as I have to finish some additions to the new pages I did today, while they're still in my head.
-
Yesterday's topic:
I'm listening to, for the first time, "Loving Repeating - A Musical Of Gertude Stein" (Music by Stephen Flaherty)
Very enjoyable listening it is too.
-
As DR JMK is want to say "Is it because I'm a Lesbian?"
-
Good music is always fun to listen to..
-
Oh OH... DerBrucer is here....
-
ONly 19 more to 600...
-
any helpers?
-
I am on my own frenzy
-
gotta love drunk college students... some chick just called on my cell and asked for scott...
-
Today, I went to my sister's for a little while. She and my niece got me two key chains from Las Vegas and a Star Trek Phaser (type 2) that's actually a squirt gun! ;D
-
She kept insisting he was at this number... I then called her back and said BTW it is nearly 2 am in the buffalo commons and I told her to check a Denver bar since her prefix was from Colorado
-
Then, on a whim, I went to see "Meet the Robinsons" in 3-D!! It was really cool. It was almost $3 more than regular movies...but you got to keep the glasses. I loved the animation style, but it was all just a little too frenetic throughout the first part. It needed a little more down time.
-
Then I came home and I just finished listening to Donald's Broadway Radio Show with BK, Cason and Kevin Spirtas as guests. It was fun listening to the stories. A very good time was had by all. :)
-
And now, I must get back to Page 8 and catch up with at least 12 pages of posts.
:D
-
George, I see that wicked smile... I am innocent..
-
we were busy tonight....
-
She kept insisting he was at this number... I then called her back and said BTW it is nearly 2 am in the buffalo commons and I told her to check a Denver bar since her prefix was from Colorado
Hopefully, she was calling from a cell phone and not someone's home phone! :o
-
Dont forget to read about the tea party!
-
I am innocent..
Nobody's innocent. ;)
-
I tried to the google the number and it came up empty
I am hoping it was a her cell. She was on drunk chick
-
Dont forget to read about the tea party!
Okay, I'll eventually get to it...I just hope I remember that you mentioned it when I get there. ::)
;D
-
I am an angel!
-
It is a pretty lively frenzy
-
Post 600!!
I just had to do it!
-
Page 21 dance!
-
THe drunk chick just called again and insisted that he is here
I told her to check her geography book... Denver is not in North Dakota
-
I tried to the google the number and it came up empty
I am hoping it was a her cell. She was on drunk chick
I don't know if I've posted this story here, but when I was in college, I went to this party with some friends. I met this girl (who was obviously drunk off her ass) and we chatted for quite a while. The next day, I saw her in the dining hall and she didn't recognize me at all! Just walked right by me. A couple of weeks later, I was taken to another party and the girl was there again (and drunk again) and she finally recognized me and asked where'd I been and all that. THEN I REALIZED THAT SHE DIDN'T RECOGNIZE ME WHEN SHE WAS SOBER BUT DID WHEN SHE WAS DRUNK! That was a weird experience.
-
Dakota, only 11 more posts and you'll hit 7200!
-
There's nothing special about the number 7200...just two zeros. ::)
;)
-
I just passed 12222 (four 2s).
-
I know but it gets me closer to 10,000
-
Milestones and plateaus...that's what it's all about.
;)
-
Weird how memory sometimes work and people remember people in some situations but not others
-
I hope to reach 10,000 by the end of the year
-
do you think it possible
-
Anything's possible!
-
We both posted about it being possible at EXACTLY the same time!! :D
-
derBrucer has been quiet this evening, I hope all is well
-
serendipity!
-
I hope so, too. And why is BK taking so long?
-
My resident posting frenzy partner has already bedded down for thenight
-
Unless he's planning an April Fool's joke. ::)
-
He wanted to do some changes on somepages he had written while they were still fresh in his mind.
-
He could be
-
Ahhh. That would be a good reason.
-
oh oh
-
heeeeeeee's heeeeere!!!
