Well, you've read the notes, the notes were both twitchy and bitchy, and now it is time for you to post until the manic cows come home.

Why a duck?  Isn't that Marxist theory.

I have many favorite haineshisway.com memories, especially of days when we just take off and riff on something for pages and pages.  There was one really famous day that I can remember, although I can't remember what we were riffing on.  And there was that glorious quoting The Music Man day - that was one of my all-time favorites.  And a few late-night frenzies - the first time we did the Limbo and other odd dances after the midnight hour.

And, of course, doing our best to be supportive with people through the hard times, and laughing through the great times.  This site was, of course, born out of great tumult, but look what we birthed.  Simply the most unique site on all the Internet.  I've met wonderful folks here, and it really is like one big happy family.  Yes, people come, people go, like Grand Hotel, but there is nothing like this here site, that's all I can say.

I have been touched so much by the support of friends at HHW during some very down times.  Often there are messages that don't appear publically but these too are part of the joy of this wonderful board where you really can feel at "home".

I've also been touched by "wacky moments" that have had been laughing out loud. I really can't blame Jose for all those moments as so many of them are from the agile minds of DR FJLand DtM.

Yes the frenzies on such subjects as THE MUSIC MAN and food-movie titles have been a couple of my favorites.

I also like the support given to all by all.

I.E. - thanks for the continued voting for my niece Amanda - I am sure HHW is helping keep her in first place.

Went to the CINDERELLA rehearsal last night.  I am sorry to report, it is a mess.  Long - long - LONG set changes, lyrics that are not pronounced but mushed up....some strange dancing - steps that don't fit the rhythm kind of forced into the feet of the cast....

Of course, I think it will sell many tickets.  It has sold many tickets already, but the set has not been changed, and WHEN not IF the Fire Marshall visits - we will be closed down anyway.

Oh well...I don't have to go back until NEXT Wednesday.

Good morning, all!  It was another lousy night of sleeping, although I did have one interesting dream that I was directing for television Cole Porter's Jubilee, and all hell was breaking loose: all-British cast and we were filming a sequence in Heathrow and I finally admitted that television directing was something I did not understand and I would have to be replaced.  Good score and cast, though I remember none of the stars.  As for the rest of the night, I slept quite poorly.

DR JRand56, Cinderella isn't that long of a show! My memory is that its playing time is under two hours.

Today, back to Toyland to continue packing up, then it's either the NYPL or lunch with my friend Josh who works with Encores!  Speaking of the NYPL, DR Ginny, if you want to go, my only free time is Friday at noon, so plan your day accordingly.  I will be there, most likely, with or without you, but it's something you've mentioned in the past. so . . .

TOD:  I've now been through a really bad round of health and surgery, as well as the death of my father, since I've joined HHW in 2004, and I most likely would have endured both events much less gracefully without all of you and your kindness, sympathy and support. I 'm fortunate to have made many wonderful friends from this site, some of whom I've yet to meet face-to-face and some - such as a Fickle Filipino, Nurse Jane, and the Blond from Bollywood - I feel I've known since the world was created.

Rob Lowe's golf ball hits flying bird
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa -- A ball hit by Rob Lowe during a celebrity golf game hit the Iowa state bird in mid-flight Wednesday.

The 43-year-old actor was hitting an approach shot on the fourth hole when his ball hit a goldfinch, dropping about 50 yards short of the green, The Des Moines Register reported.

As the rest of the players in his group broke out in laughter and applause, Lowe raised his arms in mock celebration.

"That's my birdie," he said after looking at the bird, which lay motionless on the ground.

"That's unbelievable. Who comes here and kills the state bird? Only me."

Lowe, who appears on ABC's "Brothers & Sisters," was playing in Principal Charity Classic Pro-Am at the Glen Oaks Country Club. He also starred in NBC's "The West Wing."

Good morning, H/Ks!

Although I don't have a favorite HHW moment, I certainly have had many chuckles, as well as more than a few laughing out loud times here. In a world where it's so easy to lose touch, where there are so many changes, it's comforting to have a site like this--a community of souls who share many interests and values.

What fun you all are!

And, BK, you have every right to be very proud of the site you created.

I think what has impressed me most about the site is that no matter what squabbles we occasionally get into with one another, when the chips are down and folks need help, those petty differences are forgotten and everyone jumps on the bandwagon. The level of compassion and understanding here is pretty overwhelming.

And it's great to be at a site where we're all allowed to be ourselves.

Ouch, DR Matt!  Amazon charged me only $12.99 when I ordered it.  That's a huge increase!

The think I've learned about Amazon is to place order as soon as possible.  You lock into the price if it rises but it will decrease if the price drops before shipping.  I had found far too often that if you put off ordering after the initial relase date, the price rises by a dollar or two.  But seven bucks!  Sheesh!  I don't blame you for shopping elsewhere!

And the word of the day is: INTROMIT!
Back in the early, conceptualizing days of The Muppet Show, it was planned for a smaller frog to introduce Kermit on every episode.  The smaller frog was to be known as the INTROMIT.  When the producers realized that this would be redundant, and that Kermit needed no introduction, the design for the INTROMIT was recycled into Kermit's nephew, Robin.

I totally made this up, but it sure sounds like it could have happened.   ::)

Yes, usually, Amazon keeps their low price (at least on DVDs) for a few days after the day of release, but decidedly not on CURTAINS. Oh, well.

DR JRand56 - she's not quite in 1st place at this very moment, but she's close, and in the running.

For those DRs who may wish to cast an extra vote or two, here (http://www.flyergroup.com) is the link.

I have to tell ya....the vote count doesn't change every time someone casts a vote.  I've voted, closed the link, reopened it and voted again.  And the vote total stays the same.

Anyone know how they're working that?

It makes me think you're allowed one vote per day per e-mail address (or however they are monitoring it).  You'd certainly think they'd have far more votes than the 1233 or so that have been posted, thus far.

I have heard a lot of strange reasons for people quitting their jobs, but yesterday one of our checkers left for a bad one.

It seems Herb was miffed two weekends ago, because at the height of the Memorial Day Weekend Rush he didn't have a bagger.  He felt that he was being asked to do too much, to bag groceries as well as run them past the scanner.

Me, I thought that bagging was part of the job.  Part of why I'm good as a checker is that I'm a danged good bagger, quick and efficient.  I almost never have someone else doing my bagging for me.

Yes, during the Memorial Day weekend we had lines.  We had a lot more customers that weekend than we usually have.  I survived quite well without a bagger.  In fact, I enjoyed the rush of that weekend... it really was a "rush".

Buh-bye, Herb.

Then again, I'm not one to spend my time complaining about the conditions at work, not without first trying to make them better myself.  Yesterday, on what was supposed to be a short, four hour shift, within minutes of when I was supposed to clock out, I was asked to stay for an additional four hours because of of the cart wranglers had decided to call out.  Yep, I was out in the parking lot again, wrangling carts.  Helping old ladies lift their heavy bags into their cars.  Picking up trash.  If the kid who had called out had been there, he'd have spent his shift sitting on his butt, ignoring the old ladies and the trash, and only fetching the carts when he felt like it.

Dixie, my boss, and I have been plotting out how to correctly train the new crop of wranglers.  The biggest problem is making sure I get ahold of the new kids before the old wranglers (the ones who constantly call out) teach them the bad work habits.

End of rant.

Dear DR SWoody, if I may make a suggestion. I suggest that you tell the new baggers/cart wranglers to treat the little old ladies the way you would hope someone would treat their grandmothers.

I also think that all old women should be helped out to their cars. It is safer for them. We have had purse snatchers locally. One chinchy bassa knocked over an old woman for her purse, which broke her hip, and she subsequently died. Then there is the case of the young girl abducted from the Target parking lot a few days ago. The more folks in the parking lot, the safer everyone is.

Well... Before my connection drops... Again?!?!?...

As for the Topic of the Day...

Food Days - Of course.  :)

Tony Awards - Even though I was not here "live" for them last year - since I was actually at least year's ceremony :) - Tony Award nights have always been fun and sort of tricky.  Since they're shown on tape delay to the West Coast, there's definitely an "Air of Spoiler" for the East Coast Contingent.  And then it's fun experiencing each announcement again as the Pacific Time Zone gets the results.  :)  *I still remember the year they showed some of the awards within the ceremony on tape - remember Audra McDonald reacting before her name was announced?  And being "surprised" that CBS did not adjust the editing for the West Coast feed.

Personally, all the Broken Leg Vibes I've received over the years has been astonishing.  And very much appreciated and humbling in a way.  All the love and support from all over the globe whether it be for a first day of rehearsal, an opening night, or an Opening Night On Broadway, or just going in to play for a cool set of auditions... Thank You.

And I've made some very dear friends on and from this site.  And even though some of them are now "former DRs", they're still "DRs" in one way or another.

I think my favorite thing about this site is not an individual topic or day, but rather the overall warm feeling of friendship, communication, humor, emotional support, and acceptance that exist here.

Do people sometimes squabble or disagree?  Yes..... but it usually settles out in short order.  Some of us may be very liberal.... some of us may be very conservative... as an early DR used to ask of newcomers. " Welcome to the Cookie Jar - what flavor of cookie are you?"   The nice thing is that folks are allowed to be themselves.

Thank you Bruce ..... for creating the site - for fostering friendships - for sharing your wonderful, strange, and unique take on the world - for letting many of us remember back to our own "Benjamin" times - and for providing a warm place to come to and to share both joy and sadness.

Back to the TOD..... Sometimes a litle snippet of some kind of a "runner" from here will stay lodged in my brain, and then pop out on its own.

I was at a restaurant with a few friends a few days ago; there was a fairly handsome guy, mid to late 20s, a little too worked out, a little too many trips to the tanning booth, clothes just a little too snug, and very active in going all around the room and talking.

Before I could put my tongue into neutral, I actually said out loud ... "Oh Arthur..." .

Fortunately, Rehoboth Beach is not known as a high crime area - we hear about very little crime taking place, in fact.

However, one of the points I've gone over with the couple of new wranglers that I've trained is that being a visible presence in the lot helps our customers feel safer.  They (the customers) may not even realize it, but it's there.  And they love being greeted with a cheery "Good morning" or told goodbye with "Have a pleasant day!"

I gather most CDs have gone up to 19.99 - it seems to be the new list price for everything, CD-wise.  And I can tell you why, at least the way it seems to me:

Tower's gone, stores are ordering much fewer CDs, amazon takes a HUGE chunk of the money (more than fifty percent, which is outrageous, but they're the only game in town), same with other sites, and if the company has independent distribution, they're taking a big chunk, too.  The joke is, of course, that CDs cost less than ever to manufacture.  But cast albums are hugely expensive to produce and that's a factor, too.

For the time being, Kritzerland will stay at 17.98.

Amazon's huge takings is what enables them to do the sorts of discounts they do, but some companies refuse to let them do it.  I'm always surprised, based on what they're taking from Kritzerland releases, that they don't do some sort of discount on our product.

Well.. CD Prices are basically going up because the companies want to make more money, and each time CD prices have gone up, people still buy them.  Yes, there's some grumbling initially, but people still buy them.

Yes, Amazon and the "big box stores" have been cutting into profit margins - their own and the record companies - but there's the ever-increasing digital download market.  And now that some formerly "questionable" sites like Napster have gone legal, well...

I'm still surprised that most classical CDs are priced below the current pop/rock/country/etc. pricing.  Alas, I also suspect that the amount of production, promotion, etc. for a five-piece band is actually more than it would be for a 60-piece orchestra.  But since the classical CD and classical recording business is on it's own slippery slope right now, well... :-\

Perhaps it's fluctuating with the stock exchange.

I guess I have de-groggified and am now trying to motivate myself so I can be joggified.

I've been reading some reviews of the 110 In The Shade CD, and they all mention that Evening Star was cut for Broadway (in the original production) but apparently they don't say why or explain why it was put back or GIVE CREDIT WHERE CREDIT IS DUE.  Damn them, damn them all to hell.  Why, all they need to do is read the Lost In Boston IV liner notes to find out that the song was cut very early on, never worked - in Scott Ellis' revival at City Opera, he toyed with putting it back in, but it still didn't work and it wasn't put in.  When it came time to do LIB IV, Mr. Haines was determined to sing the song, because, like me, he loves the tune mightiliy.  But I knew what was wrong with the song instantly and it's why it had never been in the show and why I hadn't recorded it with the first batch of cut songs from 110.  It was too short and had no bridge - just the two choruses and done.  It wasn't a complete song.  I called Harvey Schmidt and told him how much Guy wanted to sing it and told him what I thought was wrong and asked him if there was any way he'd consider writing a bridge.  We talked about it for quite a while and he was very nice about it because we're friends, but I could tell he wasn't that open to it in our conversation.  Two days later, I got a cassette in the mail with the most beautiful bridge - simply gorgeous - it made me cry, actually.  I called him and told him how thrilled I was.  He then told me he didn't think Tom would ever consent to writing a lyric for it, though.  So, I asked him to call Tom and just remind him how many Schmidt and Jones songs and shows I'd recorded - you know, guilt-trip him.  It worked and a few days later I had the lyric and we recorded the song.  Then it got put into the Signature production, then the David Lee production in Pasadena, and now the new Broadway production.  And, of course, it works, because it's a complete song with a complete lyric and it's perfect for the character.

But do they mention it?  Nooooooo.

Of course Bollywood soundtrack CDs run an average of $2.99...I like that price! of course there are those wonderful 39 cent, 69 cent, and 99 cent sales....and that is why I have SO MANY CDs!

Thanks to the influence of BK and his recent French film watching, I just watched the 1939 French film Le Jour se lève which I DVR'ed fron TCM the other night....BK was this a movie you had seen???

It was quite good, storywise, but the lead actor Jean Gabin was what was most impressive about the film...absolutely fantastic! He reminded me of many actors that I have seen as well as some people I have known...it was strange.

Nooooooo.

Stories like this are also what I love about HHW!

Beef Recall Expanded Over E. Coli Concerns
Thursday , June 07, 2007

LOS ANGELES  —
A meat supplier expanded a voluntary recall of ground beef products because they may be contaminated with E. coli.

United Food Group LLC said in a statement Wednesday it expanded the recall of 75,000 pounds of ground beef to include an additional 370,000 pounds based on "unspecified concerns" raised by the California State Department of Health Services.

The recalled products were shipped to grocery stores in Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming. They were sold under brand names Moran's All Natural, Miller Meat Company, Stater Bros., Inter-American Products, Inc., and Basha's.

The grocery stores affected included Albertson's, Basha's, Grocery Outlet, Fry's, "R" Ranch Markets, Save-A-Lot, Save-Mart, Scolari's Wholesale Markets, Smart and Final, Smith's, Stater Bros., and Superior Warehouse.

The products had sell-by dates from April 29 to May 6

Seems the warning is a tad late!

Whilst waiting in the bank, I saw the "news" about Miss Hilton.  Of course, it's a BIG story for the news media - certainly the most important news story of the day - nothing, not deaths, war, tornadoes, or whatever is more important than this media slut making a travesty of the justice system.  Others, who have done far less than she have languished in jail for much-less serious things - have had to serve full sentences, but she and her wealthy lawyers are allowed to manipulate the justice system once again.

It's why I HATE the damn justice system in this country - as I've said many times, being a victim of it myself (being served with a frivolous and pointless lawsuit by wealthy people who cost me a humungous amount of money just because they could), I just think it needs a complete overhaul.  If I'd been able to actually take that friggin' lawsuit to court I would have kicked their ASS from here to eternity and hell and back, but I couldn't afford to do it and they could and in the end we all decided to walk away - AFTER I'd had to spend my life savings.

And with that, I shall be on my way to Miss Ryan's and then over to the west side.

Next, I watched the latest Criterion disc I've received, an avant garde film from 1971 called W.R. - MYSTERIES OF THE ORGANISM.

I'm sure in 1971 with its collage of images and declarations of free love and war protesting and Stalin and Jackie Curtis and William Reich, it was a sensation. Looking at it now, however, it just smacked of "kitchen sink" mentality to me (you know, throw everything into the film but the kitchen sink and let's see what flies.) Not a film I would ever want to revisit again.

I'm going through the special features on the disc, and I start with a 2006 interview with the director of this film, the Yugoslav director Dusan Makavajev. I was curious to see if he would think this style or the ideas were dated in any way. Nope, he's still thinking it's relevant to our times, too. Peter Cowie provides the interview questions, but he doesn't make any editorial comment on the director's answers.

TOD: Well, I'm a relative newbie here, too, and I've only belonged to a few internet groups, but I think it's safe to say that this is indeed the best group on the internet. I don't know why the internet seems to bring out the worst in some people---maybe they enjoy venting but retaining a measure of anominity.

This group is entirely different, and I think that is due in good part to the global moderator, who doesn't put up with incivility. As a result, he has a group of some of the nicest people on the planet.

I've benefitted personally because I've learned so much about musical theatre that I never dreamed of---even just the fact that all these wonderful trunk songs exist is a marvel. And I love how everyone is so supportive of everyone else through the good times and the bad. The outpourings of compassion during times of loss has been very inspiring and often healing to me.

I also can't express how wonderful it has been to have a group of people who have been so generous with their support of my films. It is very tough to make a documentary; SACCO AND VANZETTI took 5 years, and it's hard to keep your spirits up along the way, especially when you feel like no one may ever see it, or you will never finish it.

It was so gratifying then to finally unleash it in NY to such a wonderful reception from the HHW folks. I have friends in NY whom I've known for years (same in LA) who didn't even bother to go. But the Hainsies were there, not only to attend the film, but to take time out for a splendid brunch courtesy of FJL and Skip (and Singdaw was there in spirit!). And dinner with Adrianna and bk in LA was truly wonderful and I was honored that they attended the opening night.

Also, people here bought THE INTERNATIONALE...something I never would have dreamed. I know none of my friends outside this group or even family would have bought a copy. There are so many people in this group who particpate and create in the arts, at all different levels, and their efforts are always applauded and supported here, and it's so necessary in order to go on doing those things which are often under-appeciated or go unseen.

I loved reading the progress of The Brain, from the mind of our fearless leader to its realization on the stage, and was happy to be a part of the process.

I love being surrounded by so many animal lovers and nature lovers who document the wonderful things they see in their part of the world. I like the running gags; even hearing about Ben's oatmeal bowl makes me smile every morning.

One of my most fun days was when I was invited at the last minute to an Oscar party and needed to create an Oscar-themed dish. The suggestions were flying---hundreds of them---and I don't remember the last time I laughed so much. I started compiling a list and only got to page 29 of the posts...and there were so many more.

And the most memorable times to me, the most moving ones, were following the whole story of Sherlock, and especially Danise and her mother. As sad as it was, I found the outpouring of support very moving and it made me feel good about the human race. And our brilliant list member who organized a way for us to pay tribute to Danise's mom---that was unforgettable, and I think about it now when I look at the stars and wonder if I'm looking at hers.

And don't even get me started on how great it is to have people share things with you that they enjoy---I've gotten so many treat in the mail that have enriched my life immensely.

I LOVE YOU GUYS!! (And Aventurera!)

I don't think I can pinpoint one HHW moment.  I never dreamed when I first posted here that I had found a group of people I would come to think of as my family.  I have loved meeting everyone and look forward to meeting more of the HHW family whenever the opportunity arises.

I think the day that meant the most to me was my birthdays last year when everyone here seemed to forget about it and things at work were at their worst...totally unbearable that day, as I recall, but all I had to do was sign on here and there were good wishes galore.   It totally brightened my day and made the rest of it not seem quite so depressing or important.

The Oscar night dessert frenzy was hilarious.  I really enjoyed that. I do love it when we get going on that sort of silliness.

DR Matthew - The Key 3 Book for the current revival of A Chorus Line is mainly the new string parts that Mr. Tunick incorporated for the revival.  -The original had no strings - live or otherwise.  There's a little bit of harpsichord, and I also get the funky organ and synth stuff in "Music and the Mirror".  So, basically, it's the new string book with bits and pieces of the old conductor's keyboard part.  In other words, it's very easy.  :)  Lots of whole notes.  Lots of "Tacet".  Lots of rests.  Consequently, the book has been called the "Coma Book" since it could be very easy to fall asleep and/or to lose count.  ;)

Key 2 covers the guitar, harp and some Rhodes.  Key 1 is piano (of course), celeste and some Rhodes - it's almost like the original book.  Strangely enough, the "Tap Dance" was re-done, and now the piano plays even more of it than before.  -And that stride piano ain't easy.

Back from West LA - did what I needed to do, and then endured horrendous traffic all the way home.  I'm now watching one of what I hope will be at least two DVDs, and relaxing.  Some day off this turned out to be.

DR George - Orchestra subs names are never listed anywhere.  The only ones who get listed in the program are the "primary" players for each position in the pit.  And even then, if someone leaves the show, and a new "primary" comes in, it may take another Playbill re-printing or two to get the name in the program.

However, some shows that have small bands will post the musicians on the same board in the lobby with the actors.  Avenue Q does this.  However, again, only the primary people are listed, none of the subs.  The only person in the pit to get listed out front is the conductor for that evening's performance.

However... Whether you're in the program or not, you still get paid the same.  And minimum right now, ain't bad.  :)

DR Matthew (Part 2) - The Key 3 book for ACL does remind me a lot of the Key 4 book for Mamma Mia!.  -Right down to having two songs where all I had/have to play is the last chord.  :)

My feelings exactly.  When I saw it, the one thing I missed most was the harp - not to mention the ACOUSTIC piano!

I've been very fortunate that the two times I've done the show before, it was always with the full, original orchestration/pit.  The first time was at a college, those players could play!  However, when I did the show down in Houston at TUTS, those players could PLAY!!!  Most of them had played for the tours when they had come through over the years.  Those guys and gals were smokin'!

However, I do have say, that hearing the current orchestration in the pit room is still pretty exciting.  It really is too bad that due to the size of the actual pit and the stage(!) at the Schoenfeld, that the orchestra could not be placed there, and heard acoustically - rather than through the sound board.  *If the pit had been used, it would made the show virtually impossible to do since it would have cut another three to five feet of depth, and the full stage is still a little smaller than ideal.

I mean...if "Gigi" couldn't go to the reservoir for tea with Gaston, how on earth are we to take JoseCanYouSee's going there for a "job"?

I did not ignore either of you.  I clearly stated in an earlier post that I meant to type "jog" not "job".

However, if it give you a vicarious thrill thinking that I went to Central Park for a "job", well...  ;)

One of my favorite HHW moments was my first trip to NY, and how special & exciting you made it.

Both trips to NY were wonderful, the second one special in a different way & I met so many more DR's.

Gatherings in Portland, L.A. & Seattle were also great.  It would be wonderful if we could all meet for one big party, someplace where Sherlock would also be included :D

In my sleep deprived state I’m having difficulty singling out my most special moments here.

I began posting while I was recovering from surgery, figuring once I felt better I would check the site out occasionally.  Back then I had 3 cats including the “MY” Bogie and the dog of my heart, Echo, and many more non furry family members.  The support through those losses has been very special.  I also consider myself fortunate to share in the painful & joyous times of current and past DR’s, all too numerous to mention.

Representing all those moments was my excitement to post, the moment I got off the phone, and share the news Danise had family, knowing the pure joy I was feeling would be shared by all the good people here.

I too can’t look at cherry coke, or a chef’s hat, without smiling.

They were in about the same shape mine were before I had them cut down. I'm glad they got here when they did. Be sure to put the next season in your queue. Season 2 of THE  OFFICE is a brilliant series of top-notch episodes. Honestly, there's not a weak one in the bunch, and be sure to watch the deleted footage for each episode because there's very funny stuff that had to be edited out due to time.

Tomorrow when I wake up I shall say " I can't see!"   I can't see going to work, that is.   I'm supposed to go to a free seminar in Des Moines, but the main speaker is a lawyer who argued a fairly important case at the US Supreme Court. Unfortunately his client was killed during a robbery while the case was pending, so it was dismissed and there will be no decision.  So, I'm really not sure what the guy is going to talk about. Anyway, I'm going to use some sick leave to keep typing in addresses to send my announcements to. I've already typed in 279 and have lots to go. Whew!

I began my evening watching THE LOVED ONE on DVD. Parts of it are screamingly funny and parts are bitterly satirical, and, of course with any comedy that goes so far out on a limb, there are a few things that miss their mark. But how nice to see it looking so good.

The transfer is wonderfully sharp for 95% of the time. The soft sections are just maddening because the rest of it looks so good. Morse's dialog is all looped, and so is Barbara Nichols' (by someone who is so NOT Barbara Nichols.)

Be sure to put the next season in your queue. Season 2 of THE  OFFICE is a brilliant series of top-notch episodes. Honestly, there's not a weak one in the bunch, and be sure to watch the deleted footage for each episode because there's very funny stuff that had to be edited out due to time.

It should be arriving next! This show is certainly a winner...I might delve into the British version also, later on.

The second season is the season that won the Emmy Award for Best Comedy Series (last year) and also the Peabody Award this year for Excellence in Broadcasting.

The British original series (which is only 12 episodes total plus a holiday special) is certainly quite wonderful with a dryer tone and a much less lovable, less pitiable boss (played by the brilliant Ricky Gervais).

I was telling DBF about Xanadu being a musical on stage and it lead to a discussion of other movies from the 1980s that could possibly be made into a musical...

His suggestions:
Breakfast Club
Valley Girl
Fast Times at Ridgemont High

I could see Breakfast Club if done right but the other two .... I dont think so.

We also had an extensive discussion on Grey Gardens

Paris Hilton's release from jail may not last.

Hours after she was sent home under house arrest Thursday for an undisclosed medical condition, the judge who put her in jail for violating her reckless-driving probation ordered her into court to decide if she should go back behind bars.

Hilton must report to court at 9 a.m. Friday, Superior Court spokesman Allan Parachini told The Associated Press.

I'm terrible, I know it, and I'm sorry! I just get so BUSY and then I realize that its been days since I've even checked my email, let alone visit all of the websites that I love!

Well...quick summary. I finished my first year at James Madison University with a good GPA, straight A's on my jury, and a bang, I suppose (metaphorically speaking, of course.) I got home, worked for a week at Borders, and then got on a plane for PARIS!

My best friend Ashley and I spent 3 days in Paris at the Young and Happy Hostel in the Latin Quarter, which was fantastically located and fun! Many Paris sights were seen, many friends were made.

Next came Lyon, which was sort of a dissapointment- we were expecting it to be really fun, and instead we were bored during the day, and felt really unsafe at night. Our hostel wasn't very nice, and we ended up doing a daytrip to Grenoble, which was BEAUTIFUL and very relaxing.

After Lyon was Nice, which was also a tiny letdown, but only because almost every street in the city is under construction, or so it seemed, so there was noise 24/7, and the beaches were made of rocks! It was fine though, because we just went to Cannes for 2 days during the film festival. You must have passes to see films, though, so we just bummed around on the beach, and became delightfully tan. Also, we saw Mr. George Clooney, which was a highlight of my LIFE, let alone the trip.

We took a (horrifying) night train from Nice to Siena, Italy, in which there was no AC for 10 hours, we were in a compartment with 7 other people, and the men in the next compartment over were shooting up heroin. FUN!

Siena is the most BEAUTIFUL and RELAXING city I have ever visited. The people there were so kind and patient and willing to help in every way possible, and we just had the most wonderful time. We were very sad that we couldn't stay longer. While we were there, we visited San Gimignano, which is a medieval town filled with tiny roads and towers, entirely surrounded by walls. While we were there, we had the best gelato in Italy! (Literally. They won the contest for the best gelato in Italy!)

After Siena came Florence. I really did like Florence, except that I felt like I was in the United States the entire time! There were SO MANY AMERICANS! We did some museums, went to mass in the Duomo, and basically went and took pictures of all the famous sights. Unfortunately, Florence doesn't have too many student-discounted-museums, and our bank accounts were stretched enough as it was. We stayed in a hotel in Milan for a night, and then flew out of Milans airport at 9am! (10 hour flight due to harsh winds SUCKED, let me tell you.)

Annnnnd now I'm home and working for the rest of the summer. My other best friend who I work with is getting married on Tuesday (and the date happens to coincide with the mark of her 6th month in pregnancy, which is SO exciting!), and I'm the maid of honor, so I'm excited about that.

HOPE EVERYONE HAS BEEN WONDERFUL!

Favorite HHW moments- dancing with td, random music chats with jose, the old chat room extravaganzas on monday nights, the days of bevan, jed, ann, maya, and mark bakalor, ron pulliam telling me to "walk in the sunshine" (a postit note that i wrote down 4 years ago and still have!), julianas journal, and all of the crazy, crazy moments inbetween.

Many of the Irish Music CD's that I like have been between 18.99 to 21.99 for years

Bedtime.

At last.

And then it's Friday!

And then the workday will end.

And I shall come home!

And I shall rest!

And I shall be glad!

Until it's time to start it all over again.

DOODY!

So is anyone having a Tony party? We could think of a dessert for the Tonys

The DP and I are having our annual Tony Party and this year's theme is "New York Street Food".  We'll see how the guests do!
