Well, you've read the notes, the notes had no blank pages, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they've been shooting blanks and having quite a good time doing so.
-
And the word of the day is: NUNCUPATIVE!
-
My goodness, we had us a little late-night frenzy.
-
I'm tired yet not tired. I'm irritated yet not irritated.
-
Will we never get to page two?
-
Welcome eleven GUESTS.
-
I feel a song comin' on.
-
Did you know that song spelled backwards is gnos?
-
I had chips for dinner. That's because I was still full from my late lunch of chicken salad sandwich and chili cheese fries.
-
If I was feeling daring, I'd rustle up some popcorn with butter.
-
What am I, doing a monologue?
-
I wonder which song DRs have the most recorded version of in their collections.
I remember Michael Shayne compiling versions of "Send In The Clowns".
I've done Cds of Ebb Tide and Volare (for MBarnum) and more recently, "Begin the Beguine".
My next collection may be "The Shadow of Your Smile"
-
I have a whole CD put out by Verve of nothing but versions of Round Midnight.
-
I am my own frenzy.
-
Make that thirteen GUESTS.
-
And the word of the day is: NUNCUPATIVE!
See there, Mr. P, the WOD is nuncupative -- as in nuncupative will -- I bet I'm in bk's nuncupative will ...
-
I have a whole CD put out by Verve of nothing but versions of Round Midnight.
I remember DR Pogue having a collection of Teddy Bears' Picnics (compiled by a friend)
But what of DR's own collections!
-
I get to see Miss Karen next week and we will have FUN!
-
I know I have many, many versions of many, many Burt Bacharach songs.
-
I get to see Miss Karen next week and we will have FUN!
Yes, we will, because life is a Cabaret, old friend!
-
Make that sixteen GUESTS.
-
One of my very favourite songs of the twentieth century is "Misty" but there are surprisingly less versions than I would have thought. Perhaps you need a remarkable talent to sing it or compete with the Mathis, Vaughan and Garner versions. (The Ray Stevens one is cute though!)
-
Perhaps I'll continue watching the second season DVDs of Perry Mason.
-
I shall return in 4 or 5 hours. Goodnight.
-
I shall be here a short time longer. Or should that be a long time shorter?
-
I will single-handedly take us to page two.
-
We're actually not that far off.
-
Why does this feel like a Monday night?
-
I have a whole CD put out by Verve of nothing but versions of Round Midnight.
I have 15 different recordings of Meadowlark...including four, count 'em FOUR different versions by Betty Buckley herself. ::)
:)
-
You should have two or three produced by me - or did I only do two? I know I did Liz Callaway and Susan Egan. Is that it?
-
I feel a two comin' on.
-
Right now, I'm listening to the Showtunes digital music channel and Liz Callaway has just sung "I Wish I Didn't Love You So" from the BK produced "Anywhere I Wander: Liz Callaway Sings Frank Loesser"!
-
So it is written, so it shall be done - page two.
-
I'm listening to a Philippe Sarde compilation CD I made - very pretty.
-
I suppose I shall toddle off to the bedroom environement now.
-
Last night, we had "Shrew" rehearsal (I've only been home for about an hour) with our very first full run-through (without costumes)! We started at about 8:00 pm and we didn't finish until 10:45! However, we did stop a few times, and there were a few moments of train wreckage, but overall it went quite well. :)
-

Susannah Mars - TAKE ME TO THE WORLD
And I counted wrong...I only have 13 (so far). ;)

I have a whole CD put out by Verve of nothing but versions of Round Midnight.
I have a CD that Yip Harbug's son sent to me (his Harburg Foundation donated to both our films) which was a compilation of dozens of versions of "Brother, Can You Spare A Dime".
My favorite version of it wasn't on there, but it's by my favorite musician and all around mensch, Dave Brubeck. So beautiful!
And of course, I have quite a few versions of "The Internationale"! ;)

You and Case share on opening night! Break-a-leg to you, too!
I wish I was closer, cause I'd love to see your show!
-
Time to hit the hay -- night DRs Jorge and Edi.
-
I have dozens of copies of "Everybody's Talkin'"---it was part of a "Harry All Day" webcast on his birthday, featuring hours of songs related to Harry Nilsson. His coverage of others, or others covering his songs. (ET wasn't written by him, which suprises people.) Some of the songs are by amateurs but are surprisingly good.
-
'Night, Missy K! Wish I could see Boo-Key in Cabaret and George in Shrew.

I'd love to see Cason in Cabaret, also! But, it's not to be. ::)

My DH and I went to see Wilco at an outdoor venue tonight. We had good seats but not good enough to avoid the downpour and we bailed after about half an hour, after sitting thru an awful opening act. Wilco sounded great but we were just sopping wet and had a long way to walk to even get to our car.
Now my allergies are kicking in after all that rain.
-
'Night, Missy K! Wish I could see Boo-Key in Cabaret and George in Shrew.
I wish I could've seen "S&V" in Seattle. :(
-
There were days, even just recently, when I would have stuck with it, but I wasn't a big enough fan, I guess.
Plus, the people in the first row decided to stand up, which mde the next row stand, and so on and so on. So I would have had to stand for the entire show to be able to see anything.
I wish people wouldn't do that!
-
I wish I could've seen "S&V" in Seattle. :(
Isn't that marquee a hoot? I laughed out loud when I saw it!
I wish you could have, too, but don't worry. It will be release on DVD in August if you feel that you must see it. (We hope some libraries might order it, too!)
-
Starting in 2007-08, Sound Designers Will Be Recognized by Tony Awards (http://www.playbill.com/news/article/108956.html).

Ask BK:
Do you think any of the tv series depicted in The Ratings Game aka The Mogul would actually sell on any of the netwroks or cable channels that have original programing?
-
Good morning to Larry and anyone else who pops in this morning.
Good travel vibes to the lovely and kind MusicGuy.
-
And now one for Page 3
-
As we flip up
-
I will be heading to the airport later this afternoon to meet my brother. He will be here until Sunday morning. He is very excited about his trip. I didn't realize the extent of his excitement until I spoke to one of my sisters. I hope his excitement doesn't decline when he sees the blow-up bed on which he will sleep. We don't have a fire escape so we have to put him up somewhere.
-
7:08am. Time to...
-
Good morning DRs Ben and Larry
-
I'm back, the bowl is clean and I now must go to the bank.
I'm taking the AirTrain from Penn Station NY to Newark Liberty International Airport. I've never done it before but friends say it is simple and quick. We shall see.
-
I can sleep better knowing the bowl is clean.
-
Good morning, all! Another restless night. I was awakened around 6 AM by very strange dreams about nuns and demonic possession in Loudun in 1634, and this dream was the follow-up to one that woke me at 12:30 AM, something to do with the house where I grew up and its rather spooky cellar which terrified me all the years my family lived there.
This morning I have a trek to Toyland; hopefully this on-again-off-again lease madness will resolve itself today. I have a bit of rewriting on the editorial guidelines this morning with one of my colleagues. After that, NYPL and the neighboring pharmacy to refill a prescription. Tonight my friend Kirk and I are meeting for drinks or dinner, it seems uncertain at the moment.
-
Have you been spending too much time with Ken Russell DR Elmore?
-
Hello DRs Laura, Tom and Jack

Good morning, DR TOMovOZ and LAURA and TCB.
Whew I got the notes in W I D E S C R E E N this morning for some reason.

Nope. Penderecki and John Whiting!

Good morning, DR TOMovOZ and LAURA and TCB.

The notes were widescreen for me on Netscape and the usual on Safari.

The Battle of the Century:
Sacco & Venzetti VS He-Man & She-Ra!!!
A double bill for DR MBarnum. If he misses the point of S&V he'll be compensated by He & She.
-
Fine for me on Netscape.

I've done Cds of Ebb Tide and Volare (for MBarnum) and more recently, "Begin the Beguine".

A few years ago, I made a CD of about twenty different versions of "La Paloma" for my mother. It was easier to do in those days of Napster and BearShare--you just searched for the title. But since I eschew file sharing these days (too risky!), it's somewhat difficult to compile compilations.
-
And good morning to DR td.

Yikes! I just turned around to look out my office window--it looks like it's night time! No wonder I don't feel like working.

Wednesday morning greetings! Today we're having a covered dish farewell luncheon for the manager of our department :'(.
When his replacement takes office, he or she will be the 7th manager or assistant manager in my 10 years in this department. I'd hoped to retire before having to break in another one.
-
"Covered dish" sounds like surreptitious gossip. :)
-
"Covered dish" sounds like surreptitious gossip. :)
LOL, DR FJL! There will be plenty of that!
Depending on which part of the country you're in, this type of event may be called a covered dish, a potluck, or a pitch-in. Any others?
-
Good morning all of you crazies and lovelies...
Yes it is early, and my suitcase is closed up.... Sugar is safely checked in at the "Doggie Hotel" at which she stays.... and I'm just checking over any last minute pieces of paper and stuff that I need for this trip.
And the wonderful and generous DR Laura is indeed already here, and I think (hopefully) taking some bird pictures in our neighborhood until it's time to leave.
-
TD, Shock Treatment rules. I don't think BK could stand it when he viewed it, but that film rewards multiple viewings. I've probably seen it 20 times.
-
And................
VERY BIG AND SINCERE THANKS to all and everyone for your travel vibes, and also for your continued "good business stuff" vibes.
They are very much appreciated by this here person !! :) Hopefully I can log in and post while I'm in Chicago for the next 4 days.....

Travel vibes to DR MusicGuy - see you in NYC next week! And best wishes for a successful fundraiser for your worthy nonprofit organization!

Good morning!
We had rain early this morning, so it's overcast right now but starting to clear a bit. The rain didn't cool things off enough for me to turn off the A/C and open the windows/doors, but maybe tomorrow. It is supposed to get cool tonight.

I thought of another surreal film last night before I turned off the light - FELLINI SATYRICON.

Weren't we speaking of David Caruso the other day? This is hilarious:

Today I'll be checking out the new release of DUBARRY WAS A LADY which I've read conflicting things about (the transfer, that is). I'll probably finish watching the GREY'S ANATOMY episodes on the third disc in the set.
I'll probably start on the TV series ACTION since there are only 13 episodes to view, some of which I have never seen.
And I'll watch another NANCY DREW film. It will probably be NANCY DREW, TROUBLE SHOOTER.

As someone who watches CSI: MIAMI. let me say that David Caruso must be endured (by far the weakest and most ridiculous link on the show), but the show itself features some good forensic-based plots and gorgeous cinematography.
You'd never guess from those hackneyed Caruso ham slices that the show is actually fairly high quality all around.

RESCUE ME continues its fourth season tonight at 10 on FC, for those who are interested.

I just noticed that next week marks the release of the four sets of CULT CAMP CLASSICS with something for everyone from Allison Hayes fans to the original ZERO HOUR! (used as the jumping off point for the parody AIRPLANE!). LAND OF THE PHAROAHS, anyone?

Ha! I was going to mention "Caravan", too. My partner in crime and I were thinking that or the "Hucklebuck" would be a good followup to THE INTERNATIONALE.
Also, I don't know if this has been released or not yet, but Irwin Chusid has a new Raymond Scott release. One disc is all covers od "Powerhouse". Absolutely wonderful and a release to coincide with Scott's 100th birthday.

Ask BK:
Do you think any of the tv series depicted in The Ratings Game aka The Mogul would actually sell on any of the netwroks or cable channels that have original programing?
I'd say that in today's world anything is possible. What dates The Ratings Game, of course, is no reality shows - if it were made today, that would be ripe for having fun with.
-
Happy Anniversary to Miss Karen and Mr. Miss Karen for 26 blissful years!

On June 11 I shipped a package to the UK, Dress Circle to be exact. I got an e-mail from them this morning saying it hadn't arrived. I went online and tracked the insured Global Priority package - it shows as having left LA the morning of the 12th. After that - squat. I got on the phone and finally got a "live person". He told me the international tracking system was down and I'd have to call back later. I told him the info I had and he told me, rather astonishingly, that Global Priority didn't provide day-to-day tracking and that the package takes four to ten days. I told him that I was getting off the phone to save him from a proper harangue and that I'd be calling back later when the system is up to speak to a supervisor.
These stupid yokels raise their rates two years running and the services get WORSE? Last package, which was shipped to Dress Circle via standard air post, certainly had day-to-day tracking line because I used it. Now, packages of a certain wait automatically go Global Priority, which is supposed to be a better and faster service - uh huh. Thankfully, the package is fully-insured, and I do hope they don't think I'll be waiting much longer to collect.

5 AM ?! Holly Macaroni -- you ARE a good friend ... but I suppose that pink-shirted cutie is worth it...
He feeds me. At some nice places.

He feeds me. At some nice places.
After the "underpants" incidents, however, you can't go back to those same nice places twice. ;)
-
Did you know?
The roundest knight at King Arthur's round table was Sir Cumference

"Underpants" and "Doody"....what a pair!

Will there be any identification info on this photo?
I have no idea who any of those people are.

"Underpants" and "Doody"....what a pair!
That will be my next wartime drama novella: The Underpants of Doody.
-
Did you know?
The roundest knight at King Arthur's round table was Sir Cumference
I'll bet the oddest knight was Sir Real.
And let's not even talk about Sir Cumcision.

Or their compatriates:
Sir Cumstance
Sir Ender
Sir Tified

Sir Face.

Hi folks! I’m home and in-between tests. Don’t get to close because I’m radioactive! No joke—I was injected with some kind of radioactive material that needs time to work it’s way though my system and then I go back for more pictures.
I had to work the treadmill while I was there. I’m pleased that I didn’t have to ask for them to stop the test. I managed to walk, fast walk and then run through the whole ten minute test.
I have to go back in about an hour. I stopped off at the bank to take care of a few things.
Oh and when I got home I had a bit of a surprise. The Death Certificates finely came. The rub is the envelope they were sent in was totally OPEN. I ordered 7. There was 6 inside. Now the question is, did they send me the wrong amount or was one taken.
I called the funeral home to let them know because my paperwork said I definably ordered 7. Now I’m worried.
-
Hey, DR Danise! Glad that the test is going well for you. And lucky you--getting to go home! I had to stay at the lab and watch Rachel Ray and read year old copies of Real Simple magazine while waiting for the dye to work its way through.
-
Hi right back at ya, DR Dan (the Man)! They don't have a very big waiting room so I guess that's why they want people to leave and come back.
-
I'm just hoping I'm told I have a healthyglow. ;) :D ;D
-
I wonder which song DRs have the most recorded version of in their collections.
I remember Michael Shayne compiling versions of "Send In The Clowns".
I've done Cds of Ebb Tide and Volare (for MBarnum) and more recently, "Begin the Beguine".
My next collection may be "The Shadow of Your Smile"
I think it's a tie between "Love Changes Everything" and "With One Look". A long time ago, compiling different versions of songs was exciting, now... well, not so much :)
-

I'm thinking someone realized there were only six, left the envelope open until the seventh one was ready and that someone else mailed it thinking it was good to go.

I hope so.

I wish you all could have seen the “table/bed” I had to lay on while the x-ray machine went all around me. If you could call it a “table/bed”. It was more like a tube no top or sides just a long “table” with a “groove” down the middle of it.
No offense but I don’t honestly know how a heavy set person could have fit on it. If you didn’t fit in the “groove”, you would be hanging over both sides.

If you didn’t fit in the “groove”, you would be hanging over both sides.

Based on a nine minute preview that I watched on my Tivo this weekend, I'm betting that RATATOUILLE will be the movie this summer. I know I can't wait to see it.

I'm kind of surprised that they feature the handy-dandy pronounciation guide so prominently in their marketing. I mean, if it becomes the typical Disney steamroller product of the summer, wouldn't you figure kids would learn to pronounce the title and not need the constant reminder?
-
Danise it sounds like good news so far. :D
-
DR Danise, I hope you don't glow in the dark!
The lease situation is quite peculiar but I think - I'm really not certain - that we do have it. We're planning the move next Wednesday, but we still have not had our rental agent confirm everything is settled and in place. Oy!
DR Miss Karen, happy anniversary to you and Terry! What are you doing to celebrate? Or do we not want to know?
-
I knew I forgot something important....
Miss Karen & DH of Miss Karen, HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!!
-
I found this nice write up of Joan Ryan's latest Kritzerland release:
Finally, let me mention one contemporary singer – Joan Ryan – whose new disc is a pure delight with a mix of contemporary pop songs and show music: she opens with "Trust the Wind" and closes with a grand medley of "Follow Me" (from "Camelot") and the title song from "On a Clear Day…" In between, Ryan delivers smoothly and emotionally songs like "Shall We Dance?" and "My Brother in San Francisco." Again, this one is a treat and one I think you'll enjoy.

Happiest of anniversaries to DR Miss Karen and her DH. You were married in the same year as my DH and I.

In preparation for the "big move" I was not looking forward to having to haul my "out of control" CD collection across country with me for the main reason that they are just too darned heavy. So, I bought a 500 GB hard drive and have been uploading my entire collection. During the run of Jekyll and Hyde, I began selling off "popular" titles to my fellow cast/orchestra people. (after uploading them, of course) Recently, I started listing a few out of print titles on eBay (you can find my items if you do a seller search for "maestromatt") Basically, if you can't get it new on Amazon, I've decided to list it. If you're interested, check it out.
-
Matthew-Good luck selling everything, and of course with the move.

Based on a nine minute preview that I watched on my Tivo this weekend, I'm betting that RATATOUILLE will be the movie this summer. I know I can't wait to see it.
If it isn't a huge hit, it won't be for Disney's lack of trying. No matter what the DVD, every Disney DVD I've seen for the past six months or so has had a RATATOUILLE trailer on it.
-
A number of tickets to the Oakland A's games are being dispersed within our agency this week.
Heck, the last time I went to a game, I was sitting behind left field. One of the power hitters hit the ball. I was pretty sure it would fall before reaching the fence, and then suddenly I found myself wondering why the baseball was getting bigger.
Then it hit me.

Yep, Disney is good with the force feeding, but I think this is one of the rare cases where the offering looks cherce.
-
DR Ron, did you hear about the fire at the shoe factory?
-
Hearty CONGRATULATIONS to DR Miss Karen on completing your first semester...woo-hoo! In what field is your degree?
Obviously, Communications.
-
The other episode was the very touching one with the old lady being taken off a respirator and her daughter and her best friends gathering around her as she passed away. June Lockhart and Betty Garrett were among the friends, and it's one of GREY'S most tear-inducing episodes.
-
I really want to apologize to TCB for the remark I made yesterday about "going blonde". He suggested he might bleach his hair and take over the role of Louisa in "The Fantasticks." I asked if, in his case, wouldn't he have to darken his hair to go blonde.
That was most insensitive of me. I well remember how I felt when I found my first gray hair. I knew right then that when I found another, I'd just dye!
-

Say, DR Ron, do you see that woman in the second row? Is that Hortense?
-
Before I lay down for the nap, I watched about an hour of DUBARRY WAS A LADY. This MGM musical has never been a special favorite despite having great talent in it. I still find it fairly dull going.
While the transfer is good on average, there were those pesky color fluctuations again, especially during Zero Mostel's Charles Boyer impersonation and for a moment during Virginia O'Brien's number. Skelton hadn't begun his dream sequence yet, so I'll be curious to see how that looks.
-
Say, DR Ron, do you see that woman in the second row? Is that Hortense?
I see her, but I don't know her.
Why is she tense?

I'll add
Eden Espinoza (John McDaniel Live At Joe's Pub)
Joanne O'Brien (An Enchanted Evening: The Music of Broadway)
Joan Ryan (STAGE: Strouse, Schwartz & Schwartz)
I have the Joan Ryan recording! I actually made a compilation CD of the versions that I have and I either forgot about that or didn't have room on the CD...no, I just forgot about it. ::) But there isn't room to add 14th recording, anyway, so I'd have to start a volume 2.

Wednesday morning greetings! Today we're having a covered dish farewell luncheon for the manager of our department :'(.
When his replacement takes office, he or she will be the 7th manager or assistant manager in my 10 years in this department. I'd hoped to retire before having to break in another one.
My friend Margo is on her 11TH supervisor, here...and she's had the same job the whole time!

Happy 26th Anniversary Vibes to Myself and DH (and DF of Boo-Key)!

Those David Caruso clips were brutal. I cannot believe they are actual lines from a real show and not a parody. MattH is right in that it is difficult to fathom the rest of the show could be any good with howlers like those.

Nude?
Sadly, no...for the most part. ;)
Fortunately NO for the rest of us. ::)

I'll probably start on the TV series ACTION since there are only 13 episodes to view, some of which I have never seen.
I loved this show! I'd read that they cobbled together an ending to the series after they found out that it had been cancelled. :-\

If, in France, you had folks who had eaten more than their fill:
Would you say about Philippe that he is "un" full?
Or about Philippe and Margot that they are "deux" full?

I have just read all of DR Ron Pulliam's posts. My mind is agog! There is just no suitable rejoinder. :)

Have finished rewriting patter and realize Joan still hasn't sent me the final two songs' rough patter - so scatterbrained. We're rehearsing from three to five, so I shall shortly be on my way.
Transferred some more stuff, including James Horner's beautiful score to In Country. Never released, it's one of his subdued, pretty Americana scores. I'm not a huge fan of his, but he does this sort of score well.
Harvey Schmidt sent me the new 110 In The Shade CD - I don't think he's that enamored of it, and frankly neither am I. I know people revere her as a goddess, but I'm in the "I don't get Audra" camp - she's perfectly okay and, for me, nothing more. Obviously her voice is good, as is her range, but she does nothing for me emotionally, and that's a real problem with 110 In The Shade. I don't like the reorchestrations at all, the Starbuck and File are lackluster, and the tempos and little changes are irksome. So, it's the OBC all the way for me.
-
I got a nice big package from MattH today - so it's going to be a Sopranos-fest around these here parts.
-
Susan E. came by and picked up the mixed CDs, which I hope she'll like. I picked up my dry cleaning so I have lots of clothes to wear now.
-
Those David Caruso clips were brutal. I cannot believe they are actual lines from a real show and not a parody. MattH is right in that it is difficult to fathom the rest of the show could be any good with howlers like those.
Well, I DO blame him for a lot of what's wrong with his character. He's turned the sunglasses-on, hands-on-hips, back out of the frame after punchline into his entire characterization. The writers have fed into his ego and delivered a role that's nothing but lame punchlines, and he hasn't demanded anything better.
I have to admit: the show can be very dramatic, very tense, but I find myself laughing just about any time Horatio (Caruso) is on the scene. He has destroyed any credbility for his character with me. Fortunately, the show is filled with more interesting characters than his.
-

I'm glad it got there. With the mail service being what it is, one never knows what to expect or when to expect it!
-
Will no one even try to keep up with me? :D
No way, but I'm enjoying the ride.
:D
-
And now, I'm heading down to take care of a few things and then get back to DUBARRY WAS A LADY. After that, I have several shows on the DVR to get to before RESCUE ME begins at 10.
Since I cleaned the den this morning, I at least have that chore taken care of.
WBBL.

Just doin' my part to help. ;)

All this infernal wordplay - folks should be ashamed.
:)

I remember Mickey Rooney as Hortense in Sugar Babies (Robert Mrose on the tour that I saw in Boston). She danced a little on her left leg. Then she danced a little on her right leg. And between her left leg and her right leg she made a fortune.
-
Sue: Harold and I are going to the mountains next week.
Joan: Himalaya?
Sue: No, silly, we're just friends.

Is there a RIMSHOT in the house? ;)

Harold Pinter did not write word Plays. Silence was the substitute.
-
Edi-I hope you are feeling better & your allergies don't turn into a cold.
I already feel better, which is good because we're cranking out a lot of spots today plus I have a full session at night--new contert for TBS My Boys. It's all improv so it should be interesting...
-
George, since I might not be around on Friday (company is coming on Saturday) I'm sending your parents early anniversary wishes.
I'm hoping their special day is a good luck charm.
Craig's girlfriend is flying from Bucharest to NY, and then from NY to Pittsburgh. She has only flown once before & didn't care for it. Craig was with her on that trip, this time she will be carrying the cat in a carry-on bag. This isn't a sweet gentle cat, plus she has been crying very loudly since Craig and Yogi left ::) At least on the first leg of the trip a Peace Corp friend of Craig’s will be with her. He will also help get her from Delta to Jet Blue for her flight to Craig.
-
Edi I'm glad to hear that.
-
Surprisingly I don't have that many versions of "Caravan". The first one I purchased was by "Santo & Johnny" on an E.P. with the theme from "Come September". The S & J version was a much bigger seller here than Bobby Darin's version thought Darren did make it to #2 with "Multiplication" from the same movie.
And That Reminds Me (A Della Reese reference)
The S & J E.P. also included "Blue Moon". I guess I would have quite a few versions of that.
-
Tom, are you a John Baldry fan?
-
:D
The correct answer to the Zulus question is, "No. I won!"
-
As in Long John Baldy whence Elton John derived half of his name?
He had a few hit here.
-
George, since I might not be around on Friday (company is coming on Saturday) I'm sending your parents early anniversary wishes.

That's very sweet, Jane! Thanks! ;D
-
George, after all their blissful union created you.
-
As in Long John Baldy whence Elton John derived half of his name?
He had a few hit here.
That's the one. I was wondering if you happened to know the name of the woman blues singer who sang back on the album "It Ain't Easy".
Elton John produced and played/sang on some of his albums. He also gave Rod Stewart his start...
-
I know he sang with Kathi McDonald.
-
It would have been Maggie Bell I suspect.
-
Maggie is Scottish and was the lead singer of "Stone the Crows"
-
Isn't "stone the crows" a lyric in Joseph...
-
I thought was from Nun's Story.
-
Maybe it was Nunsense where the crows were stoned.
-
Or was it Stowing Thrones in Grasshouses.
-
"Stone The Crows" is still a saying used by people of my "vintage" or older.
-
People who dwell in Adelaide or in the State of South Australia are known as "Crow Eaters", Queenslanders are "Banana Benders".
-
In the Northen Oz states, Victorians such as myself are referred to as Mexicans.
-
"Stone The Crows" is still a saying used by people of my "vintage" or older.
I'm certain hearing you say this is why Vincent painted the crows in the wheat field.
-
In the Northen Oz states, Victorians such as myself are referred to as Mexicans.
??? You don't look like the Mexicans I see.

Queenslanders are "Banana Benders".
And, of course, there's no fun had with that phrase in Australia.
-
I have just read all of DR Ron Pulliam's posts. My mind is agog! There is just no suitable rejoinder. :)
Harrumph. All I got was an "agog"?
I expected an "agape" and an "aghast", as well.
-
If it helps, Ron, I, for one, am agape.
-
If it helps, Ron, I, for one, am agape.
It DOES help, Sandra. You mightn't think it would, but it does.
Thank you!

Have I missed something?
S. Woody's last post was four days ago.
Der Brucer's last post was three days ago.
Do you suppose they both fell and can't get up?
(Does anyone know what's up for real?)

I'm certain hearing you say this is why Vincent painted the crows in the wheat field.
The stars in my eyes influenced him too.
-
And of course DP Colin has had part of one ear surgically removed.
-
And of course DP Colin has had part of one ear surgically removed.
Well, of course, then.....THAT surely explains a lot.
Not that poor old Vincent could have heard it.
-
And on that note (e-natural), I'm off to Seattle. I'm going to a Seattle Storm women's basketball game. I hope they win! :)

I could blame DR Jose's
jobbing jogging for the broken bridge at Avignon - but I won't. It wasn't Vincent's fault either.
-
Ron, I saw you were playing cards with some natives last night. Zulus?
"No. I won!"
;D

Good Evening!
What a nice treat is was playing through the score for A Chorus Line on a real piano (again)! Even if it was a sort of rickety upright with a few sticking keys. It was just so nice to play that piano part on a real piano - some of those figures are just so pianistic, and you need the "feel" and "bounce" of a real piano keyboard to make some of those passages "work". :)
Today was one of the first rehearsals for an upcoming replacement - the new Al. -The old, Al, Tony Yazbeck, is heading over to City Center to play Tulsa in the upcoming LuPone Gypsy. Great dancer and singer, and a good guy too. -And, yes, cute too! ;)
-
I for one am thoroughly enjoying "110 In The Shade".
I'm not!
Oh, you mean a CD.
-
LOL DearReader Laura.
-
...And on a break, I headed down to the deli on the corner. It's one of those typical NY deli/foodbar/sandwich bar set-ups. However, while looking at the salad bar, I noticed things like a chickpea salad, a roasted beets and garlic salad with walnuts, roasted cauliflower and fennel, and a few other Mediterranean meze. I sampled a bit of this, and a bit of that, and it was all pretty darn good! And very fresh too. And since most of those items were on the "light" side, I didn't go into sticker-shock when I put my container on the scale at the counter.
-
And now...
DR Ron Pulliam - Oy!
;D
-
I assume by now you have Renée's "The Definitive Collection" DR td!
Alas, not yet. . .
I'm surviving with the last live album and her last studio album. .
-
Back from rehearsal - I did basic blocking for almost all the first act - we'll do the rest and act two tomorrow, then I can start doing the detail work.

I should send a copy?

Not until the official announcement is made. ;)

I want tater tots.

I want tater tots.
Sprinkled with parmesan cheese?

Sprinkled with parmesan cheese?
I have never tried that.
-
I have never tried that.
Or you could also try sprinkling them with shredded cheddar cheese during the last couple minutes in the oven, and then serving them with salsa. -Or with shredded mozzarella and tomato sauce. :)
-
Isn't "stone the crows" a lyric in Joseph...
Yep.
Pharoah said... "Stone the crows."
-And when I first heard that, I was like What?!?!
-
What? No picture?
What's wrong? You can't Google yourself?
-
"No. I won!"
;D
I feel complete now.

Well now I REALLY want tater tots.

I see Mr Yazbeck is another CCM grad, along with Leslie Kritzer, Matt Bogart, Jason Graae, Vickie Lewis, and soooo many talented others.

I feel complete now.
It was my obligation!
And dee-lighted to accommodate!
-
Hi all. Sorry I didn't post sooner. Jane called and caught me napping in my chair.
I was just so tired when I got home from the 2nd part of the test. I fed the dogs, turned the TV on, sat down in the recliner and fell sound asleep.
I guess part of it was--stress--I was a little worried about this test. I won't feel 100% comfortable until the results are in.
Everything went ok. I was in the "groove" again. :D
-
What's wrong? You can't Google yourself?
Ah, but that's Tony, not the "new" Al. ;)
-
I have never tried that.
I haven't either. It sounds good.
-
Dani-GOOD TEST RESULT VIBES! Hoping you never have to be in that groove again. :)
-
Ah, but that's Tony, not the "new" Al. ;)
Any pretty face will soothe TCB in a crunch!

I have everything set and ready to go to make the pad see eu Bryan sent for Father's Day. I'm just waiting for the noodles to finish soaking.
-
Unbelievable!!! I'm agog, simply agog. I just had an e-mail from someone to whom I sent an urgent overnight package to arrive at noon today. Guess what? It arrived in NY at the Express Mail Center at two-thirty, and there it sits. It's scheduled to be delivered in the morning. But, I can get my money back. Needless to say, I was apoplectic, because this was a very time-sensitive thing that has to do with The Brain, and I said to the lady I spoke to that if their ineptitude is responsible for anything that would preclude the package from being considered (it was REALLY time-sensitive) then the twenty-one bucks wasn't going to do the trick. She gave me the number of consumer affairs and said I can file a formal complaint and try to get more recompense and let me tell you if that package isn't there first thing in the morning that is EXACTLY what I'll be doing, BIG time. And, frankly, the morning may be too late - I won't know that until tomorrow.
-
George, I also want to wish your parents an early happy anniversary in case I don't get the chance to.
-
They raise their rates and the service gets WORSE.
-
I have just read all of DR Ron Pulliam's posts. My mind is agog! There is just no suitable rejoinder. :)
DR RON has rendered SINGDAW speechless!! OMG!
-
Bruce, GOOD VIBES the package won't arrive to late!
-
Dani-GOOD TEST RESULT VIBES! Hoping you never have to be in that groove again. :)
Thank you, DR Jane.
BK, so much for "when it has to be there" blaa blaa.
I'm still in shock that legal documents could come through the mail in an OPEN envelope. Even if nothing was lost, why do you have a seal? Oy!

BK, was it sent USPS or UPS or FedEX or what?
-
DR Danise - Good Test Result Vibes!
-Did the envelope look like it was sealed and then opened again? Or does it look like it was never sealed in the first place? -I've received a couple of important pieces of mail in that condition before. ???
-
DR RON has rendered SINGDAW speechless!! OMG!
I KNOW!!! I'm such a chatty Cathy...usually. ;)

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO DR MISS KAREN AND HER DH (AND DF TO BOO-KEY)!!!!!

Some people claim that Tony Y. has the "best arms on Broadway." :)
-
Cultural differences. "Stone the crows" would have just been totally accepted in the UK and OZ.
-
I saw the first professional staging of "Joseph" in London 1973. (Coupled with Jacob's Journey). The Pharoah was played by Gordon Waller (of Peter and Gordon). Back then the show was not a Rock star/Pop show and had delightful charm. Musically it is still my favourite ALW score.
-
And one for Waller
-
DR Jose, since Danise has left for the night.....
The envelope was not sealed & it was missing one of the documents.
-
The Pad See Eu was very good. The sauce was excellent. Next time I need to add more tofu and soak the noodles longer to soften them, and add more sauce.
-
Mr Waller's one time singing partner Peter Asher is somewhat better known these days.
-
Now I have a ton of dishes to wash.
'night.
-
Thanks, DR Jane.

Hmm....
Well, it appears one of my roommates has become totally smitten with a new young man. So much so, that I guess when she cooked him dinner last night, she must have dropped a wine glass. And did not fully clean up all the broken glass. I almost ended up heading to the E/R again. Thankfully, I noticed the three shards on the ottoman before I had placed my hands on it to move it. :-\ -And there was also some broken glass in the dishwasher too - apparently, from a wine glass too. ???
-
I have hiccups.

FedEx? I'm guessing.
-I know the few times that the USPS has failed me with their Express Mail, I've always been able to get a refund. FedEx has a bit too much fine print in their "agreement".
-
I have hiccups.
BOO!!!!

And I will claim that my new next-door neighbor has the "best arms in Tacoma." :)
-
I have hiccups.
Not any more.
-
My guess is that it was FedEx. But you know how I feel about FedEx.
I am still waiting for the letter of apology from customer service, by the way.
-
Isn't the FedEx morning arrival time by 10:30? I think noon must mean USPS (also that BK says Express Mail Center).
-
Now I have a ton of dishes to wash.
'night.
(Pad) See Eu tomorrow, DR Jane!
-
Doesn't DR Michael Shayne work for FedEx? I don't blame Michael.
-
Isn't the FedEx morning arrival time by 10:30? I think noon must mean USPS (also that BK says Express Mail Center).
Well, I was going by the $21.00 price tag. And FedEx also has Express Mail centers.
FedEx has three categories of overnight - one by 10:00, one by Noon, and one by COB the next day. Although, they also have a option for early morning delivery by 8:00 now, I think.
In any case...
I hope the package is not too late. (Ah, and almost Romance, Romance reference.)
-
Is it me or did anyone else think that Glen Hansard from ONCE resembled my beloved Harry Nilsson?
-
Hmm....

Slap her. There's a difference between smitten and messy just as there isn't much difference between rude and inconsiderate.
-
And I will claim that my new next-door neighbor has the "best arms in Tacoma." :)
If you tell him he has a beautiful body, will he hold it against you?
-
I spent the first part of the evening finishing DUBARRY WAS A LADY. As I said earlier, it's never been one of my favorite movie musicals. I don't find it very funny and the songs are only fair, both from Cole Porter and the new ones interpolated into the movie.

No one's hurting my friend Jose's livelihood if I can help it!
-

Trust me. She's due for a good talking-to after the past week or so. Let's just say that due to her "sleepovers", another one of the roommates has had to sleep downstairs on the couch in order to get some peace and quiet.

All the good Cole Porter songs, and most of the original script, were too smutty for Hollywood.

What did she do? Take over your union card at WhoresRus?

Hoo and Ray for DR Adriana!
-
Next I watched tonight's Gay Images in Film movie that I hadn't seen before - MANHATTAN PARADE which was a really lousy film. Bobby Watson played a very effeminate costume designer, and the movie also had a lot of tiresome Smith and Dale routines and Winnie Lightener as a woman with a cheating husband. Really bad film that age hasn't helped at all.
-
I am shocked and appalled at the treatment of mail for MR BK and DR DANISE....by anyone!!!
-
Page 14 Dance among yourselves.

And it did VERY well at the box-office. Just goes to show what putting Tommy Dorsey, Technicolor, and Red Skelton into the same movie can do.

I hung that Nun calendar in the shop at the theatre.
-
Kathy Griffin's MY LIFE ON THE D LIST had some fun stuff, but also some tragedy, too. Very moving seeing her cope with problems in her life.
-
Ah yes.....next week. I ordered TWO of the Cult Camp Classics....including:
Attack of the 50 Foot Woman/Queen of Outer Space/The Giant Behemoth (How did HE get in that collection)
And the sword and sandal set with The Prodigal, Land of the Pharaohs, and The Colossus of Rhodes.....
-
ENTOURAGE finally got Vince's MEDALLIN movie made despite a novice producer and a pretentious, moody director who had to be coddled every step of the way. Funny running joke with Drama had a very hilarious payoff.

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ::)

I finished the evening with RESCUE ME which, as usual, has lots of plots already going and more surely to come. I LOVED Sean admitting that he sometimes fantasizes about Tommy's wife which, of course, drove him to near-distraction.
-
Heading down to bed now.
Good night!

It was, sadly, USPS not Fed Ex. Express mail. The really irksome thing is that the package arrived - late, but arrived - at the Express Mail center at two-thirty in the afternoon. And there it sat - heaven forbid these cretins should get off their ASS and actually deliver it. I was told it was set for delivery for tomorrow morning, and my point was, why didn't they deliver it when they got it, given that they'd missed their deadline and people usually use this service for things that are important and/or urgent.

Boston Globe review of Skip's show HERRINGBONE at Williamstown is up. Hope it's OK to reprint it here in its entirety.
STAGE REVIEW
Wong's magnetism gives 'Herringbone' its power, humanity
By Louise Kennedy, Globe Staff | June 21, 2007
WILLIAMSTOWN -- Even if he weren't doing it with 30 stitches in his right thigh, the performance B.D. Wong gives in "Herringbone" would be a tour de force. Given the circumstances -- Wong injured himself in last Friday's opening-night performance at the Williamstown Theatre Festival, stopped the show to get stitched up, then went back onstage the next day -- it's little short of miraculous.
Wong says he has been obsessed with "Herringbone" since, at 19, he saw the original New York production. On paper, the obsession is a little hard to understand: This is a one-man show about an 8-year-old vaudeville star who's possessed by the soul of a murderous, tap-dancing midget.
In performance, however, Wong richly justifies his fascination -- and passes it on to us. For this is not, as you might fear, a gimmicky show about weirdos. It is very weird indeed, but it is also a funny, heartbreaking, and multilayered consideration of familial bonds, the construction of identity, greed, lust, power, and the dangers and rewards of theatrical performance itself. Oh, and tap-dancing, too.
Those who know him only from "Law & Order: SVU" will be astonished to learn that Wong is a marvelous dancer, singer, and stage actor. Those familiar with his Broadway triumph in "M. Butterfly" will be less surprised -- but may still be astonished by just how good, how nonchalantly expert, engaging, and magnetic, he is here.
"Herringbone" requires its star to create 11 distinct characters. There's the child star, George; the midget, Lou (known in his own vaudeville career as the Frog); the Frog's former dance partner, Nathan "Chicken" Mosely; George's parents and grandmother; the salesclerk who sells him his herringbone suit; a lawyer; a manservant; a hotel receptionist named Dot; and the narrator, Herringbone.
But there's also, we gradually realize, another character onstage: the actor who is creating these characters. The first time Wong stops and says, "Sorry, I forgot to tell you," you think he's just fluffed a line -- and who could blame him? But at some point you recognize that such "mistakes" are part of the show.
It's a testament to Wong's artistry that I can't tell you how I knew this, even before he said as much in a post-performance talkback; I just did. And it's the key to the whole thing. By pretending to drop the mask, only to clue us in that the face beneath is a mask, too, Wong fulfills the play's intent: to make us reflect on how all of us build our sense of ourselves, are possessed by the characters in our lives, and somehow, if we're lucky, manage to live a real life anyway.
Let me emphasize, before commanding you to go, that this is a genuinely odd show, and one that will not delight every taste. Skip Kennon's music is complex, spookily lovely, and indelibly evocative of the varied characters, but it's not easy listening, and both Tom Cone's book and Ellen Fitzhugh's lyrics present similarly intense challenges. The show also has moments of deep creepiness, as when Lou's spirit tries to use the child's body to have sex with an aroused but confused Dot.
But "Herringbone" knows it's creepy, and we're left revolted not by what happens onstage but by the true heartbreaks that this production, directed with sensitivity and intelligence by Roger Rees, forces us to contemplate. Children aren't generally possessed by midgets. But too many are dominated, wounded, and even destroyed by the adults in their lives. To see Wong transform his adult features into the desolate, lonely face of a scared little boy is to share that terror.
Wong and his characters, by the way, are not quite alone on Neil Patel's simple set, which cleverly lays bricks in a herringbone pattern that blurs the border between stage and audience. Music director Dan Lipton delivers an equally virtuosic performance at the piano, changing musical styles and moods as quickly as Wong does voices and accents. For all their art, though -- Lipton's easy mastery of both showstoppers and tender ballads, Wong's delicacy in evoking a whole person by miming the adjustment of an earring -- what most amazes us in "Herringbone" is not the dazzling trickery of its surface, but the poignant tenderness and full humanity of its unexpected depths.

I am shocked and appalled at the treatment of mail for MR BK and DR DANISE....by anyone!!!
I understand DR Danise's chagrin. She was expecting seven copies of her mother's death certificate. Instead, she received six in an open envelope. No evidence of it having been sealed.
I hope it was a clerical error...that seven documents were meant to be sent and that someone mailed the envelope by mistake...before it was ready.

ANOTHER night of freedom from cable TV.
Absolutely NOTHING on that I had any interest in.
I don't miss it. I won't miss it. I'll never want to catch up to it in any form.
It's HEAVEN being free from the enslavement.

Tomorrow is my last workday of the week. Am taking Friday off for fun and relaxation (or work and sweat at home...haven't decided which yet).
It's been a quick week...a busy week. A little bit of it frustrating. Most of it rewarding and satisfying.
-
I didn't care for MANHATTAN PARADE, either, DR MattH, BUT, I had to add it to my collection because there are so few available Winnie Lightner movies! Winnie shed some pounds between SHOW OF SHOWS and MANHATTAN PARADE, but to cut out all of the songs, really gave my beloved Winnie nothing much to do. . .
-
Because I am plumb out of corny jokes, I'll post this for DR Jose (who can share it with Singdaw if he chooses):

Great news for us down here...the new art house that has opened in Athens is going to be playing one of my all-time favorite movies!
I had talked to the owner about showing our film and we shared some of our favorite films. I never thought she would end up programming this.
Now, if only the soundtrack from bk (anticipated more than raisins from Fresno...) can transcend the crappy USPS, our lives will be complete! My former roommates still live in Athens so I will be going there to watch it with them. After all, it's "Get Together Weather!"
-
FJL, please convey to Skip congratulations on a good review in the Boston Globe! (Much better than our review!)

Finished two episodes of The Sopranos and am trying to relax for twenty minutes before writing the notes.
-
But come the Fall and the new TV season? ???
That's a horse of a different color! I'll check out new shows to see if there are keepers...and then I'll weed 'em out like I did last season.
Heroes, Lost, Medium, Ugly Betty, Ghost Whisperer and Smallville are my must-sees on weeknights. With Lost not premiering until January, and gosh knows where these shows will appear on the fall schedule, I'll probably just have a show (maybe two) to watch each night. If I get a DVR by then, I may not even watch as they air...I might kick back and read a book (gasp!).

I'm back from the basketball game. They lost...by 20 points. ::)
Just had to share.

I love the original Broadway cast recording with Laurie Beechman and Bill Hutton! It was a delightful little show and not what it's become...an over-wrought, over-bloated, every-song-has-to-be-rewritten-into-a-showstopper-wanna-be pile of...well, you get my drift. ::)

Just my opinion.

Great review, Fred!! Congrats to Skip and BD Wong and Roger Rees...and anyone else involved in the production!
