As for pizza... I'll have to double-check my guidebooks and notes.  However, we did order some pizza from a new take-out place up in my neighborhood called Vinegar Hill Bread Market & Gourmet (137th & Broadway).  Some amazingly - and surprisingly so - good pie.  *And the people who run Vinegar Hill, also run the taqueria, Tres Tacos and Café Largo on either side of the market.

-Oh, DR elmore and I did enjoy the pie at Dean's Pizza on 85th.

And for what some consider the classic New York Pie - besides the one you find near Coney Island - there's always Patsy's Pizzeria which has a couple of locations around town.  *But the original in East Harlem is still the best.

I prefer THE PRESTIGE to THE ILLUSIONIST, but only by a narrow margin.  I prefer the casting of THE ILLUSIONIST to the cast of THE PRESTIGE.
DR Jane - I'm looking forward to the next MUMMY movie!  Did you see Rachel Weisz in THE FOUNTAIN?  Now that she's an Academy Award winning actress, she probably feels she can depart any film due to "creative differences."  I'll miss her, but, she has done some truly fine work outside of THE MUMMY franchise.

I think I may have just watched the best dramatic film of the past year: ZODIAC.  Mesmerizing, hypnotic, compelling and (importantly to me) a great creative transfer from book to screen.  I picked up the dvd in the used bin at Movie Gallery for less than ten bucks (knowing that there will be a super-duper-deluxe-ultimate edition coming in February, I wasn't going to leap onto this dvd at premium prices).

The white pelicans often nest in the lakes area where my parents live. But they aren't there this year.

Tonight we were discussing how there are fewer songbirds this year, noticibly so. Has anyone else noticed that?

Immigrant Crackdown Halted
Judge Delays DHS Plan to Check Social Security Numbers

By Spencer S. Hsu
Washington Post Staff Writer
Saturday, September 1, 2007; A03

A federal judge yesterday barred the Bush administration from launching a crackdown Tuesday on U.S. employers who hire illegal immigrants while she considers a lawsuit by the AFL-CIO that charges that the plan will harm citizens and other legal workers.
The ruling, issued by U.S. District Judge Maxine M. Chesney in San Francisco, prohibits the Department of Homeland Security from starting to mail notices to 140,000 employers about suspect Social Security numbers. The "no- match" letters warn of penalties employers face by having discrepancies in their paperwork.

The order was a victory for the labor federation and the American Civil Liberties Union, which filed suit alleging that DHS is overstepping its authority to enforce immigration laws and is misusing a Social Security Administration database. They allege that the letters are an effort to pressure businesses to fire workers whose documents are flagged and could expose countless immigrant workers -- including law-abiding citizens and legal residents -- to job discrimination.

There are errors in the Social Security records of an estimated 12.7 million native-born U.S. citizens, 250,000 foreign-born citizens and 4.8 million legal immigrants, potentially creating a paralyzing bureaucratic nightmare for workers and Social Security offices if their records are dragged into the sweep, union representatives said.

In recent years, the Social Security Administration has found that up to 10 percent of workers have suspect numbers, whether because of fraud, innocent typographical errors, confusion over name changes, multiple surnames or other reasons. Under the DHS proposal, starting Sept. 14 employers would have 90 days to resolve questions concerning such employees' identities or to fire them. If they do not comply, businesses face the possibility of fines and even criminal penalties for knowingly violating federal law that bars employing illegal workers.

If the government is going to require employers to fire workers because they are suspected illegal aliens, then the government must be prepared to take them into custody, at once, and proceed with deportation! Able bodied men wandering the streets unable to gain employment is a recipe for social disaster.

If my employer receives a "no-match letter" from DHS, will my showing proof of citizenship be sufficient to retain my job until the Social Security System gets it's act together?

How many DRs can produce, on demand, proof of U. S. Citizenship (certified copy of Birth Certificate, valid U.S. Passport,  certified DD214 (Military Discharge) - Drivers L. is NOT good enough?

Once ICE does a sweep in a meatpacking town, there will not be enough hotel rooms to house the attorneys necessary to process the "no-match" workers.

One of the producers I work with is moving this weekend, and has saved all his very nice boxes for me. Even though I've packed up a lot, there is still a lot to go. I've got about 40 wine boxes full of stuff stashed in the kitchen.

Since I couldn't get my first choice in moving companies, I took the recommendation of a friend who has moved a lot recently, and I'm hoping they'll do good.

I had first asked my client who he was using to move. It was a company called "Good Samaritan". I looked them up and there were 4 client reviews, all terrible. I tried to talk him out of using them but a friend recommended them, so...

While on the way to the new house with the moving truck, the truck was pulled over for a "safety check". It turned out the driver had a suspended license! So the police took him away and the other 3 guys who were left were Mexican laborers and none had a drivers license. So they had to send another driver out to get the truck and continue the move.

Something tells me there will soon be 5 bad ratings on kudzu.com!

Yesterday, I went to the LAST matinee performance of Young Frankenstein!!  It was still very good!  It was also a lot shorter.  When I saw it the first time (August 14th), there was a scene near the end of the first act where the villagers pretend to welcome Doctor "Fronkensteen" to their village, and they present him with local Transylvanian cheese and soap.  The doctor asks which is which and the local villager who presents them isn't sure.  He takes a bite out of one (and he really did eat something), eats it, takes a moment and then eats the other stuff...and he really eats that too, but even after tasting both, he's not sure which is the soap and which is the cheese!  It was a funny scene, but it was not in yesterday's performance...and I didn't miss it.  I guess there were a lot of little nips and tucks here and there throughout the show.  Overall, it flowed quite well and was about 20 shorter than when I saw it the first time.  It was a good length. :)

I don't know what may be the current Gilfry apartment status at the moment, but I do hope all was resolved favorably yesterday, I've about five chapters to finish my reread of Balzac's COUSIN BETTE, and I'm thinking about PERE GORIOT or EUGENIE GRANDET next, and I'm off to Toyland to continue the Montgomery & Stone trackdown: I wish the Institute would give us a keyboard for the office, but I suppose replacing the stolen computers would be a wiser decision. What color, Cillaliz?

Well, there was a downpour that started about 6:00 AM and it's still raining, so it won't be today, but it's white now and I'll prime it with a coat of white and then decide if I want to go to another color

Don't know, but I need to get going to breakfast.  I had planned to work outside all day today, but the rain has totally changed my plans.  That means time to scrub the basement room....yuck. I have been dreading it, but once it's done I can start moving on my plans.   Oh, and I can pick out the color and go buy the paint while there is still a $5.00 rebate per gallon.

Good morning!

When I got up to get the newspaper, I was greeted with the first cool morning we've had in a month and a half. The themrmometer said 63. Tomorrow should be an equally cool morning. Sadly, the five day forecast is for temps to be climbing back to the mid-90s, and only one more cool morning before the heat returns anew.

Suburb opens this Thursday -- press night is Tuesday -- and I'm ready to be committed to Sunny Vale.

When all is said and done, I'll have to post a recap of my AD experience -- and experience it has been... BUT I've learned a lot (that maybe I don't want to be a director after all ....) so in that respect it's been a perfect practicum for my Master (not the part about maybe not wanting to be a director any more -- that actually is undermining my Master plan -- but the part about learning so much has been good).

I'm really proud of the set and worked with the guy yesterday to get all the lighting set -- my first lighting design project and I think it's going to look really cool -- got to use some gobos (guess that's how you spell it) for two scenes -- red flames for the barbecue scene which is written as very frenzied and rtitualistic and a window pane with the light blue moonlight spilling through for a night time bedroom scene.  Oops, too much info but the lighting got me fired up again after a bad week (I was ready to walk one night -- grrrrr -- working with some of the people -- grrrrr!)

Oh, and the cast is doing really well -- they've got it down pretty much, they just need to stay focused -- at times they seem to know know the music but are starting to flub some of the lyrics again now that they're messing with props and costume changes (the music it rather Sondheimish so tricky -- and not forgiving if you get the least bit distracted) -- and they're at that point where they need an audience.  I know it's there, I just haven't seen them turn it up to the full wattage yet.

Good Morning!

I'm up, I'm up... And I ended up falling asleep last night and waking up to this morning a new recording of Bach's "Goldberg Variations" by the pianist, Simone Dinnerstein.  I had seen a few write-ups about her and her recording over the past few weeks, and since it was on sale at Virgin yesterday, well...

Of course, I ended up listening to almost all of the 30 variations and the da capo of the Aria before I finally drifted off to sleep last night.  As most of the reviews have indicated, this is not your "Father's Goldbergs".  Even the main Aria upon which the following variations are based is imbued with more, well, "musicality", than I've ever heard before.  -The repeat of the first section is actually haunting in a way - I ended up hitting the rewind button a few times last night just to listen to it again, amazing sense of color and control.

And when I woke up this morning... It was a good thing to wake up to.  Alas, I also found out that there's a bad area on the disc - lots of skipping in one of the variations - so I'll have to take it back to Virgin today for an exchange.  However, what wasn't skipping was still quite a fascinating and illuminating listen.

BK - Unless you want to be there for the meet-and-greet after Milla's perf, you'd really have no problem doing both.

Here's the detail on Milla's show, in case anyone else wants to come.

Barnes & Noble’s Any Wednesday celebrates the best in jazz, cabaret and theater performers by inviting Milla Ilieva, whom BroadwayWorld.com’s Michael Dale describes as “on her way to joining the ranks of cabaret royalty,” to celebrate the release of her debut CD “Taking A Chance On Love” on Bruce Kimmel’s prestigious Kritzerland label in the spacious third floor events space at the Lincoln Triangle Barnes and Noble at 66th and Broadway in New York City on Wednesday, September 5. Milla’s performance, with Paul Trueblood at the piano, begins at 6:00 p.m., lasts approximately a half hour and is followed by a signing/meet-and-greet session. The event is free and open to all. For questions, comments or if you require further information, please contact Bart Greenberg at AnyWednesdayBN@aol.com or 212-595-9340.

Milla will perform songs chosen from the following well-known and lesser known Broadway and film songs: “What A Night This Is Going To Be/Night Of My Nights,” “A Cockeyed Optimist,” “When Does The Ravishing Begin,” “Where’s That Rainbow,” “I Found Him/I Could Have Danced All Night,” “Do What You Do/Do It Again,” “Tess’s Torch Song,” “Time Heals Everything,” “Sara Lee,” “Everybody’s Girl,” “The Only Game In Town,” “I’d Rather Wake Up By Myself,” “Taking A Chance On Love,” and “Half A Moment.”

As Mark Twain said, “Twenty years from now, you’ll be more disappointed by the things you did NOT do than by the things you DID do. So explore! Dream! Discover!” Take A Chance On Love!

Funny thing about that is, Lone Star Love wasn't even a new musical back then.  It was "announced" for Broadway in 2000, which shows you what "announced" really means.  I saw the show in 2004, and felt it was labored and long.  The plotting of Shakespeare's comedies needs to be tweaked for contemporary audiences ... Like what Sammy Buck did for Like You Like It.

Of course, when the writers of one of the NYMF shows, is mourned as a victim of the early days of AIDS, well, "new" gets redefined every day, don't it?

Hi Noel! WFO has told me he will be joining us for your  8 PM show on the 30th!

I'm very much looking forward to meeting WFO, Vixmom, but Such Good Friends doesn't have an 8 PM show on the 30th.   :'(

It's quite possible I've not been diligent enough in making sure the DRs have the info about my show.  I'll try to remedy this here:

Such Good Friends is in The New York Musical Theatre Festival
Friday, 9/28, 2007 @ 8pm
Saturday, 9/29, 2007 @ 1pm
Sunday, 9/30, 2007 @ 4:30pm
Wednesday, 10/3, 2007 @ 4:30pm and @ 8pm
Saturday, 10/6, 2007 @ 1pm
Julia Miles Theatre, 424 W. 55.  Tickets through NYMF.org (http://NYMF.org)

Such Good Friends has Book, Music and Lyrics by Noel Katz
Direction by Marc Bruni
Musical direction by Michael Horsley
Choreography by Wendy Seyb
Such Good Friends stars Liz Larsen, Brad Oscar, Jeff Talbott, Lynne Wintersteller, Dirk Lumbard, Shannon O'Bryan, Joshua James Campbell, Blake Whyte, Laura Jordan and Michael Thomas Holmes
Tickets are $20 and are now on sale (212 352-3101).  The best way to purchase tickets is NYMF's website. NYMF.org (http://NYMF.org)  If you want to buy tickets in person, visit the Theatermania booth at the Virgin Megastore in Times Square.  During the Festival (Sept 17th - Oct 7th)

Glad to get your feedback on this, JOSE. I was reading about her just the other day. Sounds like it's well worth a listen.

I have spent the entire Sunday afternoon watching episodes from the third season of THAT GIRL. It is a pleasant show, never hilarious or the soul of wit, but certainly sweet and mildly entertaining.

Unlike the breathtaking color and clarity of THE WILD WILD WEST, these films from the 1968-69 season look dated. Some are sharper than others, some are in better shape than others. But that richness of hue in THE WILD WILD WEST isn't to be found here.

In the first eight episodes, one of them had a commentary with Marlo Thomas and one of the producers (Bill Persky possibly). They did very little talking; Marlo had no memory of even making the episode so she was intently watching and listening and said very little. Neither of them could even remember the name of the guest star Cesare Donova.

There was also a 10-minute featurette when Marlo talked about the conception for the series, her debt to her father, and her pride in what they accomplished for five years. Again, a rather feeble attempt to add some bonus content to the set.

I had planned on bridging some of THAT GIRL with GREy"S ANATOMY's third season episodes, but I'm getting through these so quickly (even though they're 27 minutes as opposed to the 22 minutes today's half hour shows fill) that I should be able to get through the rest of disc two and maybe disc three today. That will leave a nice piece of tomorrow to start GREY'S.

I finally had to admit to myself this afternoon that the cortisone injection was not working.  The surgeon had said anywhere between 24 and 72 hours it would start to offer some relief.  It felt a little better on Thursday and Friday; or, at least, I told myself it did.  But any relief I felt on Friday was completely gone by this morning.  This afternoon, I went to get the cats some food, and I couldn't even use my left hand and arm to grab the seatbelt.

Well, I guess I will try some more physical therapy this week.  I don't know what else to do.

DR Jane - Did you see Rachel Weisz in THE FOUNTAIN?  Now that she's an Academy Award winning actress, she probably feels she can depart any film due to "creative differences."  I'll miss her, but, she has done some truly fine work outside of THE MUMMY franchise.

I think I may have just watched the best dramatic film of the past year: ZODIAC.  .

ZODIAC was already on our Netflix queue & I just added THE FOUNTAIN.

I remember when the first Mummy film came out there was a good amount of hype regarding Ms Weisz's talent & that she did the film for commercial exposure.  I think she did truly fine work on the Mummy franchise :)

There was an amusing letter to the editor in this morning's newspaper.  I hope it doesn't offend anyone.

Quote
Thanks to the latest Republican scandal, this one at the hands of Sen. Larry Craig, I now know more about foot-tapping than I could ever have imagined. Not that this new knowledge will do me any good; I generally take whatever measures I can to assure I won’t have to sit down in a public restroom. But what I found even more interesting is that, in this case anyway, the right may have been right.

Many right-wing mouthpieces recently bellowed that the main character of the movie “Happy Feet,” a misfit penguin who loved to tap dance, was merely a construction in support of the liberal Hollywood gay agenda. By giving an adorable cartoon character such obviously gay tendencies, the theory goes, our children were being groomed to feel compassion for homosexuals.

Many of us ridiculed these people, but perhaps we were wrong. After all, it now appears that they recognized in this penguin a gay penchant, unknown to most of us prior to Craig’s recent incident, to tap one’s foot.

The question to ask now is how is it that these pundits, so conservative and righteous, were also so attuned to foot-tapping as an indication of homosexuality? Thanks to Larry Craig, Mark Foley, Ted Haggard and so many other right-wing Republican “Christian” hypocrites, I think we now know the answer.

Jose, thanks for the link.  I will probably combine a couple of recipes & see what happens.  I’m trying to decide if I should toast the almonds before grinding them.  The cookies will be flourless.  I had seen the almond macaroons with swiss meringue buttercream recipe at epicurious.  It is one of the few which toasts the almonds.

Back from another long walk and dinner with a friend at John's Pizza.  There was a big street fair (do they do it every Sunday?) on 46th between Broadway and Sixth and then all the way north on Sixth for heaven knows how long.   Lots of food stands and way too many people.  I visited Virgin, too.

John's, for all the raves, isn't the best pizza I've ever eaten.  It's "thin" crust, which isn't my favorite, and while it's very tasty, I've had much better elsewhere.  I must also say I will not be returning because I abhor any restaurant that won't seat you until your entire party is there - meanwhile every booth and table gets filled and by the time MY guest got there we were relegated to a tiny table near a staircase, which means I had to stare at people's shoes as they walked up and down.

Why a restaurant has a problem seating the person who IS there and then seating the person or persons who arrive subsequently is something I will never understand - it's just stupid.  Instead of seating me at a table so I can relax and order a drink they make me wait - oh, I could sit at the bar (I don't do bar) or on a bench) - I must say, I almost left.

No.  Street fair(s) happen all over the City and it every weekend takes a new location of around 20 blocks.  I believe it's the same vendors every weekend.

There are specialist in the field of pain, maybe one of them is the next doctor you should see regarding your shoulder.  There must be somethings besides pills and cortisone shots that might help.

And if he knows the shot didn't work he may want to see you sooner, or refer you to the pain specialist.  Or he might say you shouldn't see a pain specialist or it will mess up his evaluation of how to treat this.

Whilst at Virgin, since I was already in the World section looking for more Walter Wanderley CDs (there were none at all), I just happened to check the France section and was more than delighted to find one of my all-time most wanted CDs, heretofore only available on LP - I've been waiting for two decades for a CD release and now I have one - a German import - it's Mirielle Matthieu singing Ennio Morricone - a stunningly beautiful piece of work.

Sunday evening greetings!

Happiest of birthdays to DR Ron Pulliam!

I can understand why we haven't seen Ginny around today.  She is either still helping her son move, or she is in mourning.  It was her Michigan Blue that was the loser in the biggest upset in college football history wasn't it?

A lot of the former, DR TCB, and quite a bit of the latter.  I told them at the end of the season 2 years ago that the defensive coordinator should be fired, but did they listen? No-o-o-o-o, and now David was allowed to score 'way too many points against Goliath.  And we all know how that story turned out!  On the bright side, now I'm not nearly so angry at our cable provider for not carrying the Big Ten Network.  At least I wasn't watching it.

DS Rob is now more or less moved into his studio apartment.  DH Richard and I are very tired, because it's up 2 very steep and narrow stairways.  Fortunately, none of his furniture is very big or heavy and we had lots of good help from his girlfriend and her parents (who are a lot younger than we are).  We left Rob at the house she's sharing with 3 or 4 other girls to help them with some big jobs.

NYMF - 2008 Bound to be a hit!

Blonde Ambition - The Musical.
NY DAILY NEWS (http://www.nydailynews.com/gossip/2007/09/02/2007-09-02_anna_nicole_smith_book_claims_birkhead__-3.html)

Quote
Anna Nicole Smith book claims Birkhead & Stern were lovers; cut deal on baby, estate

An explosive tell-all book about Anna Nicole Smith's sad demise alleges the two men who battled for custody of her baby girl and control of her fortune were gay lovers.

The bombshell allegations about the steamy relationship between the former Playboy Playmate's longtime companion Howard K. Stern and her baby's biological father, Larry Birkhead, come to light in "Blonde Ambition: The Untold Story Behind Anna Nicole Smith's Death."

Sordid passages in the soon-to-be released book by former MSNBC journalist Rita Cosby describe how Anna Nicole and her friend allegedly caught Stern and Birkhead with their shirts off and their pants around their ankles in a Los Angeles home.

Jackie Hatten, described in the book as one of Anna Nicole's closest friends, said the men were engaged in oral sex.

"Their bodies were intermingled," Hatten says, according to a copy of the book obtained by the Daily News. "It was obvious what was happening."
...
"None of it is true," Birkhead told The News. "I'm gonna sue Rita Cosby for it."

Stern's lawyer, Lin Wood, called the book's content "false and defamatory." Wood said Cosby "has taken the coverage to a disgusting new low for which she will be held legally accountable."

The 244-page book reads like a whodunit novel with cliffhanger chapters, plot twists and tales of deception by those closest to Anna Nicole.

The former stripper knew both Birkhead and Stern were gay, the book alleges. But Smith, who was obsessed with Marilyn Monroe, chose Birkhead as her lover because she wanted a blond, blue-eyed baby, according to Cosby.

The tell-all claims Anna Nicole would spread out on her bed and watch a video allegedly showing Birkhead and Stern having oral sex "over and over" while Stern worked on his computer in their Bahamas home. The existence of the video was confirmed by a source yesterday.

Stern is portrayed in Cosby's book as a jealous, money-grabbing control freak who manipulates the erratic blond beauty's celebrity status for his own financial gain.

His alleged "goodie bag" of meds - including Vicodin, Valium, morphine and Demerol - were never far from reach.

"He was the pharmacist and [the bag] was the drugstore," Anna Nicole's ex-boyfriend Ben Thompson told Cosby.

In Anna Nicole's final days, the buxom blond was holed up in Room 607 at the Hard Rock Hotel in Florida, with a raging 105-degree fever, the book says.

As Anna Nicole's life slowly ebbed away, Stern allegedly abandoned her to keep an appointment with a boat broker. The book describes him as cold and nonchalant when told of Anna Nicole's death - a far cry from the picture of a doting lover he painted in interviews.
As doctors rushed Anna Nicole to a hospital in a futile bid to save her life, Stern allegedly was already on the phone to media contacts lining up lucrative exclusive interviews.

"Howard was ready to make his next deal," an eyewitness says in the book. "It showed us that to Howard it was all about money."

His image as the "aw shucks nice guy" was a carefully crafted ploy to manipulate the media, Birkhead's former lawyer Debra Opri told Cosby. Opri is suing Birkhead for failing to pay her legal fees.

DR MISS KAREN would be perfect as Debra Opri!

Sorry, BK, that is a pretty standard practice for many restaurants - particularly those that tend to be busy. The management can't (chooses not to) afford for you to take up table space while you wait for your party to be complete. The success of their business plan relies on table turnover.

I dozed off for about fifteen minutes.  Haven't found anything worth watching yet.

As to that restaurant practice, while I used to run into it occasionally, I haven't for years, and I still think it's stupid.  I'm coming to dine and my party will follow shortly, so what's the difference whether they seat me?  It makes no sense to me on any level.  So, someone who gets there AFTER me gets seated BEFORE me just because they arrive together and one of them isn't off parking or something?  Uh uh.  The result?  John's Pizza can do without my business, and let me tell you, they will find out that I'm not the only one who won't put up with it a second time.  I've watched it happen and suddenly, six months later, the restaurant is magically seating people when they arrive, whether their party is complete or not.

It does if your popularity can sustain an occasional hit in order to keep table turn-over high. The entire time you occupy the table waiting for your friend is lost revenue to the business.

I did get them mixed up... well not the shows, the times.... The Vixter  & I will be attending the 9/29  matinee of The Last Starfighter and the  4:30  Such Good Friends and 8:00 PM  The Brain From Planet X on 9/30.  To the best of my knowledge WFO and his Joe will be attenmding all three of those shows with us

The fact that I spent most of the night reading has finally hit me.  I’m suddenly very sleepy.  I completed the last 200 plus pages of Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell.  I’m glad I read straight through & enjoyed this last part more than the first 500 pages.  I rarely enjoy a book as much when it takes a long time to read, or it takes a long time to read cuz I haven’t been enjoying the book.

DR Jason, or any other DR Readers of this book, what did you think of the book?

I say call and make an appointment for this week. Just explain that it is still painful and I am sure he will come up with another plan. If he does not know that plan A is not working then he will have know idea to go with plan B, or C, or X...whatever it takes!

Bollywood movie # 2 was the highly recommended VICTORIA # 203 (1972) a very funny caper film about stolen diamonds that are hidden in a cart named Victoria # 203.

The film is so popular it's remake is currently in the works. If it is half as entertaining as the original then it will be worth seeing.

I felt this had a nice sentiment for a Sunday evening.

A Woman's Poem
[/size] [/b] [/u]

He didn't like the casserole
And he didn't like my cake,
He said my biscuits were too hard
Not like his mother used to make.
I didn't perk the coffee right
He didn't like the stew,
I didn't mend his socks
The way his mother used to do.
I pondered for an answer
I was looking for a clue.
Then I turned around and
smacked the shit out of him...
Like his mother used to do.

My next fiilm was JHUK GAYA AASMAN (1966) which had a most unusual comedy plot line in which a young man, Sanjay, dies in a car accident. At the pearly gates it is realized that he was not yet supposed to pass but actually his look-a-like, T.K. was the one should've died Unfortunately Sanjay's body has already been cremated...so the gods trade souls with T.K. and hilarity ensues.

It does if your popularity can sustain an occasional hit in order to keep table turn-over high. The entire time you occupy the table waiting for your friend is lost revenue to the business.

der Brucer

Der B, I think your comments accurately reflect the attitude of much of restaurant management. But, like BK, I'm afraid I personally have been subjected to far too much rude "this is the way we do business" customer-service-is-lost behavior over the years to have much tolerance left. When I dine I don't want to feel rushed; I want to enjoy my meal. A business--any business--can tally sales, but it's next to impossible to quantify how much business is lost due to poor customer service. some businesses spend a great deal of money in advertising to attract customers, yet one employee with an attitude can chase even a long-standing customer away.

End of rant. Sorry. Poor customer service happens to be one of my pet peeves. I'll stop.

Although I did watch a couple of other things tonight, I spent most of the evening again with Marlo Thomas as THAT GIRL.

Amazing the number of character actors who pass through these shows over the course of a season. Just off the top of my head there have been Stuart Margolin, Jesse White, Dick Wesson, Jules Munchin, Larry Storch, Bernie Kopell, Penny Marshall (for about two seconds), Hope Summers, Benay Venuta, Vic Tayback, and so many more. It's one of the real pleasure watching a forty year old show to see these people, some of whom hadn't hit it big yet, and some of whom had already had their biggest moments of glory behind them.

LOL! I can't believe I looked at that photo and thought the grout needs some work...

LOL. Oh, yeah. You've been a homeowner too long.

After I finished disc two, I put on TORCH SONG since our TOD a day or two ago was camp movies. I haven't seen it in awhile, and it's just and gloriously bad as always. Sure would love to see a decent DVD transfer of this Technicolor movie. And after all the years I've watched this, it just dawned on me that Gene, the dance director of Crawford's show, is Eugene Loring.

I also watched ENTOURAGE's season finale tonight off HBO-HD. Not especially funny this week, but a nice way to end the season. A good cliffhanger, some love for Johnny for a change. Looking forward to see where they go with the story next season.

Today Mae-Ling got to light the candles for the first time, a job she took VERY seriously.

TCB, sorry to hear you're still in pain. I had severe pain for two years, tried all sorts of things, but not much helped. The things that DID help me were: osteopathic treatment (from an osteopath, not an orthopedist), acupuncture, and diet/nutrition/supplement recommendations from PAIN-FREE IN SIX WEEKS by Sherry Rogers, MD. Dr Rogers had a lot of pain problems herself and explored many, many approaches. The book is usually available from Amazon and these approaches could be used in conjunction with other treatment or for relief until you find something better. I learned that my injuries were being aggravated by my allergies, among other things. Don't mean to suggest that this is the case for you, just that sometimes the cause can surprise you. And NONE of the doctors caught it. There IS hope. Don't give up.
