Well, you've read the notes, the notes were like a gazelle with a hickey, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - you know, I've just about had it with the fershluganah cows and their errant and truant ways.
-
And the word of the day is: AHIMSA!
-
I am full of AHIMSA since I am the first post!
-
and I have been running down books like a bat on speed!
-
Oh, Oh -- I hope the good news regarding the fundraiser is that Donny Osmond will be performing.
-
I did hear from DR MusicGuy earlier tonight. He had one of those "flight from hell" into the NYC - delayed flight, bad A/C on the plane, small kid constantly kicking the back of his seat, etc. But he's here. We'll be meeting for lunch tomorrow, and then he'll be making his way to The Acorn - with a stop at the Little Pie Shop. DR Ben - He'll be calling you in the morning.
-
At least he wasn't snowed in for several hours in Phoenix.
-
Well... Tomorrow is another day, so...
Goodnight.
-
I've caught up. I didn't catch it at the hospital where I have been visiting my friend Peter (Yes again). It takes 4 hours out my day so I am being truant from here often. Peter is going home again today - not because he is better!
-
Sorry DR RLP....it was indeed DR TCB who questioned what kind of anniversary my parents were celebrating....but that was yesterday, anyway.
Loved the theatre pictures, DR td.
It is late at night and I have nothing to do, since I am not doing DVD reviews for Scarlet Street.
-
I enjoyed ThE REAPER tonight, laughed several times. A most attractive cast saying some funny things, and the workplace environment is full of possibilities.
-
Rainy AND hot here.
-
I did finally finish the internet Allison Hayes bio....although the fonts are a bit wonky....
Some new photos and info mixed in with the old....if anyone cares to read it again.

Speaking of capri pants and cigarette holders:
-
I hope at least one audience member dresses this way for Brain #4.
-
My thoughts and prayers are with Peter and his family and friends.
-
I do hope there will be a dinner after the show with MusicGuy and Jeanne, etc. What fun we shall all have.
-
Add my thoughts for Peter and his family.
-
I do hope there will be a dinner after the show with MusicGuy and Jeanne, etc. What fun we shall all have.
That's a party just waiting to happen.
My question for ASK BK day:
When you were small....what preview convinced you that you MUST MUST MUST see the movie?

My thoughts are with Peter and his family..

My DH and I just had a visit from our cat sitter, who toured the new house and seemed to like it, even though only half the rooms are "done". After she left, we spent several hours arranging and rearranging the furniture in the living room. After we tried about every configuration we could think of, we found something we both liked and went from there.
I must say that it's been really fun working on this house together and making decisions together. (Except my office...I planned that on my own but DH seems to like how it turned out.)
And now, for MBarnum and Jane, my desk lamp!
-
I've loved reading about and seeing pictures of everyone's favorite theatre. I lost my connection before I could post my favorite local movie palace, but it's The Fox, and yes, Music Guy has of course played there, in a sparkly jacket!
Here's a picture from the premiere of a film I edited, and collaborated with Van Dyke Parks, my hero. He came to Atlanta for the premiere and we spent several days hanging out with him and his lovely wife. One of the highlights of my life!
The theatre was sold out with a crowd of 4500. Pretty neat for a little indie film!
-
"The Third Brain" reminds me of that OUTER LIMITS episode, THE SIXTH FINGER.
-
DR Tomovoz, vibes to your friend Peter. You're a great friend.
-
Singdaw, I loved the baby picture of The Fox theatre (the other one...) That made me LOL!
-
OK, I'm tired from so much "decorating"!
Nytol!
-
Very nice lamp, Edi!
-
Rainy AND hot here.
Well, it has to be that way SOMEwhere....thanks for taking the heat!
-
I would have thought our DR Edisaurus would have posted something like this photo of the Loew's Grand Theater in Atlanta:
-
That photo was, of course, taken as Loew's Grand was being prepared for the world premiere of "Gone With the Wind" in December 1939.
-
DR TCB - all kidding aside, I really did enjoy your "storm" story yesterday and all the great vintage photos. Thanks! [And to DRs td, Kerry, Ron Pulliam, and all the rest as well - a lovely day of photos and memories].

DR Edisaurus - That's a really beautiful lamp.

WOD: My bathroom has AHIMSA and AHERSA towels.
Well, let's be honest...AHERSA and AHERSA. :P
-
The 4:00 AM follies were early today.
-
Good morning, all! The alarm went off at 4:45, and I am quite groggy but showered and ready for the day. I want to get as much of the Plaza work done by 2 pm today, so here I am.
More to follow.

***SAFE & EASY TRAVEL VIBES***
for DR Jeanne today!
May Amtrak be running and on time!
I think I've worked it out to be able to come into the city for the post-show dining experience this evening, so if some kind DR [JoseSPiano?] could stay in touch by cell phone so I know where to head once I get in, that would be great. :)
The show will be getting out somewhere between 6:30 and 7:00 PM?
-
DR slingshaw, the show itself is about 2 hours with a 15-minute intermission. The audience should be out of the theatre around 6:45. I would assume the cast will be out around 7:00.

Yay! I wasn't expecting you to be able to join us, but I'm really glad you will be!

Good morning, Larry. I look forward to seeing your this afternoon.
-
Good morning, everybody else.
-
Thanks very much for the information, DR elmore3003. In that case, never mind my previous post; I should be able to arrive at The Acorn by the time the show is getting out.
-
Good morning David and Tom.
-
I did see The Ritz last night. That is all.
-
Ben is being styptic.
-
Or is Ben being dispeptic?
-
I guess he just wants us to beg.
Oh, and Good Morning!
-
Actually, no. I'm glad Jose enjoyed it. I do agree that Brooks Ashmanskas is wonderful and will get at least a Tony nomination for his performance. I also liked Kevin Chamberlin as Proclo and Patrick Kerr as Claude Perkins, the "chubby chaser" For me the funniest moment in the show was Seth Rudetsky's performance in the "talent show".
I did not like Miss Rosie Perez's performance at all. I could not understand, and I'm NOT exaggerating, 75% of her dialogue. I realize the character is wildly over the top but her diction is awful and lines that might have been funny were lost. I also thought her entire performance was forced and unfunny. Again, I know the character is an over the top stereotype but there was not a real, believable moment in her performance (IMHO). Her "act" in the bathouse might be funny for a couple of minutes but it went on far too long and wasn't funny at all by the end. That being said, the audience around me was ROARING with laughter and screaming and cheering, giving Miss Perez a huge hand after her cabaret number. I might be missing something. I don't know. The actor playing the mafioso type husband (who wants to kill Proclo) and the actor playing his wife may be good but I couldn't tell because their performances were little more than stereotype and I worry that they won't have voices by the end of the run because all they do is SCREAM, especially as the show comes to an end.
I guess I just don't like the play very much. I was never a big fan of the show. I've seen community theatre productions and the movie version and I just think it's a tired old farce. And while Terrence McNally has written some wonderful stuff, I don't think The Ritz is part of the "good" canon.
I'm in the minority, though. This performance was sold out and the audience (as I mentioned earlier) LOVED it. Roundabout is saying that it's one of their best selling shows in a long time and it may be extended. I did feel vindicated though, at intermission, when three people sitting next to me (one on one side and two on the other) got up and left. The gentleman sitting next to me even said, as Act One ended, "it's not very good is it?" I think he noticed I was not laughing and joining in the general mayhem and was happy to see that he was not alone in his feelings. I was actually relieved that the three people who left were all gay men. If that sounds strange I'll try to explain. If an older straight couple or an older person who didn't care for the material had left I would not have been surprised but to have 3 middle aged gay men leave at intermission (I did stay through the entire show, it wasn't bad enough for me to leave at intermission) makes me feel I'm not alone in my dislike of the production and the show. I hope that makes sense.
And those, dear readers, are my musings on the current production of The Ritz.
-
And the word of the day is: AHIMSA!
And The Song Of The Day Is: IMAGINE
-
Thanks, DR Ben. This more or less confirms some other things I have been reading on Ye Olde Internet about this production. And while I love, love, love Rita Moreno in the film, all in all I have to agree with you that it's just not McNally's best work.

I am now officially off the hook with the NY State Dept of Motor Vehicles, so that's today's first good news.
DR Ben I must step in and defend McNally's play, which I was lucky to see in its original Broadway production. It was fast, furious and hilarious with a wonderful cast of farceurs. The movie doesn't pack the punch of the stage show because, like all good Feydeau and other brilliant farces, farce is all about confined space, doors, timng, and wrong beds. The film opened it up way too much, although I usually love Richard Lester's work and it's great to have Rita Moreno's performance preserved. I think it's a very well-assembled farce, and perhaps it's been revived too early to make it the period comedy it is. In 1975, the baths and Bette Midler's performing in them were topical, silly, and naughty as Feydeau's Hotel du Libre Echange (usually Hotel Paradiso); now the baths, to me at least, are a symbol of a plague and a lot of deaths.

My question for ASK BK day:
When you were small....what preview convinced you that you MUST MUST MUST see the movie?

I can't be specific, really, but when I was a kid ALL previews convinced me to see just about everything - I loved previews.
-
And here's a sneak peak at a review that will appear on Broadwayworld.com at some point today. This is fascinating because the show was already "reviewed" there poorly - I didn't mind that that person didn't care for the show, but I did mind the accusation of note-for-note song plagerism (later retracted when he was shown there wasn't even a similarity) and this guy's smarmy little cross-outs alluding that we just took stuff from other musicals like The Rocky Horror Show - since I really don't like the latter and would never take anything from it even in homage, I asked him to point out the allusions to that show - nothing was pointed out needless to say.
In any case, this review is by another fellow, a little older, and who, more importantly, saw the show on Friday night, when everything was working (save for the sound) exactly as it should.
From Michael Dale:
The Brain From Planet X
Bruce Kimmel (book, score and direction) and David Wechter's (book) musical may be a spoof of 1950's low-budget sci-fi flicks, but its roots are solidly embedded in musical comedy. From the borscht belt jokes to the wildly comic performances to the spiffy show-biz score, pretty tap-dancing showgirls and buff showboys, The Brain From Planet X struts its considerable assets in an unapologetic quest to entertain. And entertain it does. I laughed, I tapped my toes, I laughed some more and had a swell time.
Looking a little like Phil Silvers in a straightjacket, the hilariously diabolical Barry Pearl wears an enormous brain headdress and big black glasses as the title character, determined to conquer earth by sapping us of our emotions and love for the American suburban way. Alet Taylor, as fellow alien Yoni (decked out like an intergalactic Ann-Margret), stops the show dead with her vamp number "I Need An Earthman." Her Planet X associate, Zubrick (Cason Murphy) is a bit of a tight-ass, but once he discovers Earth's greatest cultural achievement, musical theatre, he becomes a dancing fool and exuberantly leads the chorus in a smashing number called "The Brain Tap." (The night I attended there were some difficulties with the microphones, but Murphy was loud and clearly heard singing over a multitude of tapping feet.)
Back on Earth, General Mills of the United States Army (a bellowing Richard Pruitt), assisted by Private Partz (Chad Harlow, who has no lines but whose subtle reactions are a scream) recruit part-time inventor Fred Bunson (a nicely earnest Rob Evans) to help save the planet. But it may be too late to save Fred's wife, Joyce ( Amy Bodnar, who continually flashes an eerily toothy smile). Meanwhile, Merrill Grant is a comical whirlwind as libido-charged teenager Donna Bunson, who can belt out the catchy "Good Girl/Bad Girl" while athletically flinging herself all over her beat poet boyfriend (Paul Downs Colaizzo).
Kimmel's direction is in the classic George Abbott style of faster, louder, funnier, with jokes ranging from sly and satirical (one of Fred's inventions is a device to help 1950's teenagers develop a taste for tobacco) to the lowest of wordplay ("You wouldn't know the Earth from Uranus."). Adam Cates' flashy choreography and Jessa-Raye Court's colorful costumes add to the fun, making The Brain From Planet X a terrific time for tired businessmen, matinee ladies and over-caffeinated kids alike.
-
Good morning!
Cooler overnight and this morning, so the house is opened up and getting aired out. Still going to be 85 today, so around lunchtime, I'll be shutting everything back up and turning on the A/C for the rest of the afternoon and early evening. Around 10, I may be able to open things up again.
-
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And the handyman should have been here by now to look at my broken window... The one I reported last week. Of course, he showed up yesterday morning to look at the clogged drain... The one I reported last week... (And then fixed/unclogged on my own). Well, since I'll be meeting DR MusicGuy down in Chelsea in an hour and a half, I guess it's good that I'm up.
-
Here's the direct link - it appeared under Michael Dale's NYMF Notes Part One, in which he does round-up reviews.
http://broadwayworld.com/viewcolumn.cfm?colid=21689
-
DR singdaw - I'll probably be second-acting the show since I'll be in rehearsal until 5:00 down around Macy's. So, I may see you in the lobby.
Otherwise, just take the shuttle from Grand Central to Times Square, then walk the block under or above ground to 8th Avenue.. Then keep walking west on 42nd Street until you get to 9th Avenue. The Theatre Row complex is on the south side of 42nd Street, between 9th and 10th Avenues. See you there!
-
After I read the morning newspaper and cleaned the den (it IS WEdnesday, after all), I sat down and watched the TORCHWOOD episode that I missed last Saturday night (recorded last night at 11 p.m.)
Really enjoyed the episode. Amazing that since CENTRAL PARK WEST flopped, John Barrowman couldn't get arrested on American television, and I don't undertstand why since he's talented, attractive, and holds one's attention when he's on screen. Maybe he was just more interested in appearing in Great Britain (he was turned down for Will on WILL & GRACE), but he could have been wonderfully cast in the part John Benjamin Hickey played on IT'S ALL RELATIVE. (He and Chrispher Sieber would have been ONE HOT COUPLE.)
-
PUSHING DAISIES doesn't premiere until next week (due to DANCING WITH THE STARS), but I do plan to catch PRIVATE PRACTICE (which has gotten lousy reviews) and DIRTY SEXY MONEY tonight with their premieres.
And I guess I'll give the Kelsey Grammer/Patricia Heaton sitcom BACK TO YOU one more chance.
-
This afternoon, I'll be continuing with CRIMINAL MINDS. And I have BOSTON LEGAL and SVU from last night to watch (probably in the early evening).
If THE JUNGLE BOOK comes in today, I may switch over to it since I know the release is a 2-disc set and that means hours of extras to get through.
-
DR Ben - No "apologies" needed. I soooo totally agree with you about Rosie Perez's accent getting in the way. There were even some Hispanic couples sitting next to me who weren't sure when she was speaking in English or Spanish.
As for her cabaret sequence, I think the fact that it does go on too long is part of the bit. -I've also just always found Seth Rudetsky's sense of humor - and "wrong"-ness - very much my cup of tea. -And his little "cameo" in the second act.... :)
My friend from Roundabout did say the run is almost sold out - as is their Pygmalion. Of course, since The Ritz was on TKTS last night, I'm wondering if, like a lot of theatres, they're sending a block of tickets over to TKTS each night anyway just to be safe.
How was the "rhythm" last night? I remember walking by some ushers on the way out on Sunday, and they were commenting on how fast the show went by that day - and they were out a few minutes earlier than normal.
And, yes, in the canon of McNally's work, this is most definitely a "slight" piece. Even the whole "acceptance" seems to be a bit glossed over, too pat. But that could also be the way that I see it - someone who came out years after the original play and movie were produced... A year after Rock Hudson came out/was outed... Right at the beginning of the AIDS crisis. -Which makes me want to read and/or see a production of Love! Valour! Compassion! again.
-
OH...
And as I was walking out Studio 54 on Sunday, I remembered that the first time I saw the movie of "The Ritz" was in some hotel somewhere. I was probably only about 11 or 12 years-old, and it was a family vacation. And it just so happened that after we had gotten settled into our hotel room, the late-night movie that was on on some channel was "The Ritz".
I seem to recall that my parents, well, at least my Mom knew about the movie and wanted to watch it. I remember wanting to watch it since it had Rita Moreno in it - and since I loved her in "West Side Story" and "The Electric Company"...
Then I remember a lot of channel-surfing going on. Especially once all the towels and steam started to show up on the TV screen...
Hmmmm...
-
Well, time for me to get ready to head out for the day. And what a day it will be: Lunch with DR MusicGuy, Mary Poppins rehearsal, possibly the second act of The Brain, and then dinner with the gang. *And, yes, I'll have my camera on me too.
Laters...
-
Thanks for the directions, DR JoseSPiano! :)
-
I can not believe that 50 Years Ago Today(September 26,1957) WEST SIDE STORY opened on Broadway.

Wow! That's great. I haven't mentioend the other review since I felt that his "mindless fun" comment, which sounded good came too late after his bitching.
-
*Oh, one other tidbit about the current revival of The Ritz...
Ashlie Atkinson who plays Vivian Proclo was a last-minute replacement -and the reason they cancelled their first preview (to give her more time to rehearse with the cast). She had left a show to do The Ritz, and that show just happens to be Roller Derby. ;) *And Ms. Atkinson is a member of Gotham Girls Roller Derby, where she goes by "Margaret Thrasher".

Wednesday.

Blech.

I know that I am supposed to be getting my copy of the "Mickey-Judy" DVD box today, but the DHL tracker places the box in Ohio at 4:51 a.m. today.
DHL works wonders. So, we'll see.
-
MOJO (HD channel on ComCast) aired a startlingly good HD version of "Jagged Edge" last night with Jeff Bridges and Glenn Close.
I remember having liked this film long, long ago. The courtoom scenes seem really silly to me now.
-
DR Ron Pulliam: If you DO get that box set today - and I truly hope that you do - will that change Wednesday from Blech to Bravo?
-
Wow! Fifty years ago for WEST SIDE STORY?

DR Ron Pulliam: If you DO get that box set today - and I truly hope that you do - will that change Wednesday from Blech to Bravo?
Dunno. Depends upon how I feel at the time....blech for now.

But, of course, HAPPY WEDNESDAY to everyone.
Don't let my blechs bring down the party.

Mine has not yet shipped. But it's okay since I wouldn't have time to watch any of them anyway at the moment.
I was reading Robert Harris' comments about them. According to him, none of the original negatives exist, lost in the infamous MGM fire. So, they look as good as they're ever going to look on these transfers.
-
And a very MERRY UNBIRTHDAY to anyone not having a birthday today.
-
Mind has not yet shipped. But it's okay since I wouldn't have time to watch any of them anyway at the moment.
Then you ARE backlogged. For me, it's not an issue of having time to watch the movies....it's the actual HAVING in my possession the boxed set that matters. It's the KNOWING I can watch any of those movies any time I want that matters.
Can't do that if I don't have it. That's the way my mind works on these things, these days.
-
I had a bacon and egg sandwich on sourdough toast for brekkies this morning.
I was hungry. The sandwich smelled wonderful. It tasted better.
And now it's just sitting in my stomach, growling at me.
-
I hear you, DR Ron Pulliam! My mind works similarly on these matters.
-
I'm downloading an upgrade to the firmware for my PS3, so I'm closing this window down to hopefully speed up the process.

It's odd how such thngs translate into "comforting" security issues, isn't it!

Far preferable to uploading a downgrade...

This morning on TCM: "Andy Hardy's Blonde Trouble"
-
There has been a rather damning discussion of Mickey Rooney over at the Film Score Monthly Messageboard lately. It's subject line is "Mickey Rooney -- Bright Light or Dim Bulb?" (http://www.filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=45010&forumID=1&archive=0)
The consensus is that despite his screen presence in the 1930s and 1940s, he's known to be a royal shitheel.
-
One or two of the participants in the thread have worked with Rooney in the past.
Still, there are always other sides to a story.
-
For anyone interested, another thread, with "Cinemascope" (http://www.filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=44610&forumID=1&archive=0)in the subject line, has become a repository for color stills of such films as "The Robe", "How to Marry A Millionaire" and "Demetrius and the Gladiators". Said stills are from sets issued in the UK in the early 1950s....and are unlike the hand-colored b/w stills U.S. theaters displayed.
-
I'm either putting folks to sleep....or they've all gone out and shot themselves.
-
Interesting link, DR RLP.
Yes, I agree. It was my dream when I was small to be able to watch a movie any time I wanted and not be at the mercy of the some times inexplicable programmers.
NEVER thought it would happen. I now I can! If I have the movie!
-
I'm enjoying my lazy morning, but am out of Diet Coke and will have to toddle downstairs to get one in mere moments.
-
But I can frenzy.
Oh, yes! I can frenzy.
I've been frenzying for YEARS!

Good day one and all..

Yes, I agree. It was my dream when I was small to be able to watch a movie any time I wanted and not be at the mercy of the some times inexplicable programmers.
When listening to LP soundtracks as a teenager (back in the 1960s!), I used to watch the LP rotate at 33 1/3 rpms and daydream that the stylus would one day serve double duty as a projector and project the scene from the movie while the music was playing.
-
And The Song Of The Day Is: IMAGINE
I really liked some of John Lennon's music. Particularly this song.

Good day one and all..
I can be either the "one" or part of the "all."
-
Of course, my daydreams came true when "laserdiscs" were invented.

Somebody, PLEASE, remember to take a camera tonight!
I totally agree Laura!
Have fun everyone in NYC!!

Interesting link, DR RLP.

NEVER thought it would happen. I now I can! If I have the movie!
Sadly for me, it's always the movie I don't have that I suddenly MUST see at all costs. Once I get it, it's then ANOTHER title I must see.
-
LOL.....true DR RLP.
I would close my eyes and imagine the movie.....if I had seen it, that was a bonus, if I hadn't I would make up the action on the screen.
-
Thank goodness I bit the bullet and went digital cable.
TCM is filling a lot of holes in my collection. And it ain't costing a fortune.

Is is possible, the way technology is going, that some day you'll be able to more or less instantly connect to any movie or any television show, past or present, on a sort of "on-demand" basis, for a reasonable amount of money? Then most consumers [except the most obsessive] would not have to purchase hard copies of everything - or patronize Netflix, etc...
-
Wise wretch wth pleasures too refined to please
With too much spirit to be e’er at ease
With too much quickness ever to be taught
With too much thinking to have common thought
You purchase pain with all that joy can give
And die of nothing but a rage to live.
-- Alexander Pope

Oh, my dear singdaw....the future is NOW.
You can download films via Amazon.com...for a nominal fee...and much less expensive than buying the DVDs.
-
That's great, DR Ron Pulliam!
I guess I was thinking more so of the stuff that isn't available to us now...old television series that were never released to the mass market, specials, gasp - even made-for-tv movies. Out of print records - you know, basically everything that's ever been made. :)

DR RLP....great quote.....and one of my favorite books (and lost movies) - John O'Hara's A RAGE TO LIVE....

DR JRand, you will be pleased to know that CHICAGO SYNDICATE will be playing on TCM in December, according to their schedule (right after CHICAGO CONFIDENTIAL).

The company cafeteria's idea about what portion size constitutes a single serving of chicken lo mein salad and mine are entirely disparate.
Disparate, I tell you.
Oh yes, they're disparate.

Thanks for the CHICAGO SYNDICATE news, DR MBARNUM....and of course co-star Ms Abbe Lane is nothing to sneeze at....singing the lovely "One At a Time."

Wednesday afternoon greetings! My day started an hour earlier than usual with a 3.5-hour forum on
K-12 P-16 (preschool through undergrad) education. I'm back now to "second act" (Jose's term) the panel reviewing proposals for public funding for cultural/multi arts projects.
Hi, DR Ginny-
Hope you're holding up and hangin in there. You've got a lot on your plate, what with work, the recent events, and getting ready for your trip to the Big Apple.
Thanks, DR Singdaw. We're takin' it one step at a time here. Richard did a lot of executor tasks yesterday and has that pretty much under control. He has a major paper and a final exam to write and submit before we leave early Saturday morning. A trip is just the thing we need right now. Based on that glowing review, I think we'll hop on plane and fly to NYC to see The Brain ;)!

I'm so glad to hear the shows are going well. I wish I were there to wtiness this myself. I also know how much hard work it's been for everyone, but just think how much joy you've brought into the humdrum lives of the audience (to paraphrase Jean Hagen in "Singin' in the Rain").
Break more legs!
-
Your work ain't been in vain for nothing!
-
And the word of the day is: AHIMSA!
Hitting someone on the head with A HAM IS contrary to the precepts of AHIMSA.
(By the way, AHIMSA spelled backwards is ASMIHA, which sounds a lot like a breathing condition that can really do violence to one's ability to run, exercise, have sex, or do anything strenuous.)
-
MattH will be happy to note that I just mopped the floor with Bruce.
bk, maybe not so...
Also, I gave myself a moving in present and for the first time, bought a vacuum cleaner. My whole life I've only had handme downs or ones that my DH has found and restored. (He seems to have a knack for finding them.) We left the last one with our new tenant and I bought a Dyson canister. My life has changed for the better. How did I ever get by with 4 cats without it?
I think I could knit a new cat out of all the cat hair I've vacuumed up from the old sofa!
-
It's another pretty, but hot day in New York, New York. I've only been out for a few minutes, though.
-
Does bk get royalties with every spritz?
-
Bruce floor cleaner! I need a bottle immediately.
-
I wonder where we shall sup tonight? Somewhere amusing, I hope.

Here's a picture of my niece Sophie as Sister Amnesia in NUNSENSE!

Bruce floor cleaner! I need a bottle immediately.
The directions state:
"Do not allow puddles of Bruce to remain on floor's surface".
Duly noted!
-
That's the title of my next novella: Puddles of Bruce.
-
DR Edi - your niece Sophie is a very cute nun!
-
There's also "Bruce Clean and Strip".
Since I will have to shower before I go out, I guess I'm following directions, although perhaps in the wrong order.
-
That's the title of my next novella: Puddles of Bruce.
Is that anything like Fountains of Wayne?

Back to the grant review panel peanut gallery.
Bye for now.
-
Is that anything like Fountains of Wayne?
Contemporary music reference. Does not compute. :)
-
Yesterday, JRand asked me:
Do you wear a hat or visor at work?
It depends on what I'm doing. Cashiers are told asked not to wear caps or hats while at the registers. This rule gets violated during holidays, of course, and I have a few crazy hats that I've acquired for just those occasions.
Elsewhere in the store, caps can be worn, and are sometimes encouraged, especially in the deli where they help with hair management. I've often worn a Super G cap when wrangling carts, simply to keep the sun out of my eyes.
(I also have a short apron that I wear on occasion. I find the pockets handy for holding the key-card when I'm on self-scan duty, and for holding trash when I'm working the yard. It is plain and black, and looks nothing like a hostess' cocktail apron, which are silly and not at all practical.)
-
Contemporary music reference. Does not compute. :)
They're young. I bet they DO compute. They probably even have their own website, I betcha! ;)
-
Time to go run errands. I'm sure there will be a few people trying to pick up Bruce in the "hard surfaces" area of Home Depot.
-
Thanks, Ginny! I adore her, and she was great in the show!!
-
Puddles Of Bruce - sounds like Mr. Sondheim's Multitudes of Amys.
Puddles of Bruce
Saturate my floor
Bruce is good for cleaning
But puddles are demeaning
And frankly they're a bore
Just one squirt of Bruce
Gets the grime away
But puddles end up staining
Then you'll be complaining
And Bruce won't make your day
-
Bruce Clean and Strip - that's what I'm about to do, although in the reverse order.
-
It looks like NBC will be repeating both HEROES and CHUCK on saturday night.
I think i will try to remember to check out the latter. For some reason i thought the show was a 1/2 hour comedy. It was only yesterday that i saw the bit on the VIEW with Sheri and her former LESS THAN PERFECT co star (the star of CHUCK). The clip they showed looked interesting.
I am running really behind on tv this week. But i now have the canadian version of tivo (illico). It can record 2 shows at once plus you can watch something you recorded at the same time. Plus i also have my VCR.
The only thing about the illico is that it is only convenient for yourself. If anybody else wanted to watch something it would not be convenient. Plus the scheduled recording area is bizarre. IT can say something is scheduled to record but if it's not written in the program guide the same way you could be in for trouble. Interesting to get used to.
-
I just returned from an unexpected but quite wonderful lunch with MusicGuy and Jose at a very nice place (both Jose and I have eaten there before) called East of Eighth in Chelsea. I needed to see MG and conduct a bit of business so I decided to stay for lunch as well. I had an egg white frittata with fresh spinach, cherry tomatoes and sliced chicked, MG had the Cobb Salad and Jose had a salad but the name escapes me now. Much talk was talked and a good time was had by all. Jose is now in rehearsal at Chelsea Studios, MG is wander the Gay Mile (Eighth Avenue between 14th Street and 23rd Street) and I'm back at the office. I'm sorry we won't be able to joint the gang for dinner tonight. I will miss meeting Jeanne but I will see David (Singdaw) on Sunday at the large gathering.
That's the news from the Rialto. And now, back to work.

I am also planning to check out PUSHING DAISIES. And i will also record PRIVATE PRACTICE and DIRTY SEXY MONEY. I think i will also check out BIONIC WOMAN. It's really hard to know which shows i might like since i haven't heard that much about any of them.
-
Here's a fine thing:
DHL tracking indicates my Mickey-Judy box was out for delivery, that delivery had been attempted at 9:43 a.m., and that "recipient was unavailable -- premises closed; will attempt delivery tomorrow." I double-checked order and confirmed it was addressed to my office (open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.).
I sent an e-mail and let them know in no uncertain terms that delivery tomorrow is NOT an option...that this premises is NOT CLOSED and the delivery person must try to get it right.

Bruce Floor Cleaner will soon be the most popular product in the world.

I just put down the pencil: I scored 101 measures of music and I've got about 90 to go. I'll stop by Staples and copy it, then run down to the copyists and drop off the original 26 or so pages, run to the performance, see everyone and head back home to finish this baby.
-
I just got back from a brown bag lunch CLE at my old office. First time I've been there since I left. It was actually good. My replacement is a great guy, I wish I could have worked with him instead of Bob, but hey. I'm so much happier where I am that it's ridiculous.
I'm going to get my bio and other stuff ready for my website and will meet with the designer tomorrow AM. Hopefully, we'll have it up after that. Poor guy, my web designer that is, he keeps telling me what I need to get to him and it just hasn't been a priority....tomorrow....I swear!

That was about my experience with FedEx a few months ago; except they never left a note that they tried to deliver. How were we to know? That was a wasted day. I am still bitter, apparently.
-
Bitter is better with butter.
-
Well, pretty much everything is better with butter. :)
-
Those who deliver are NEVER as anxious as those who wait for the delivery.

I met the wonderful Michael Dale at Cafe Un, Deux, Trois following the Alice Ripley/Emily Skinner concert at Town Hall; he's a very nice gentleman. And smart, too. ;D

Great news, DR td! :)Can't eat them, or can't serve them? ;)
Well, I suppose I could eat them, but, I'm not risking the pain just as the pain has vanished. . . .

Speaking of. . .
1). Are any HHWers members of the Yahoo Judy Garland group that I belong to?
2). Any HHWers have any comments on Rufus Wainwright's salutes to Judy?
3). Any HHWers looking forward to getting Lorna Luft's (she's a personal friend of BK, so I've heard) "Songs My Mother Taught Me" cd?
-
Will we never get to page six?
Sure.
-
The question before us now is, will we ever get to page nine?

I began my afternoon watching two more episodes of CRIMINAL MINDS (which finishes the first disc in the set except for the two commentaries).
The first involved a person who was capturing, torturing, and eventually killing women. The criminalists finally figured out it was a team effort, not the work of one man. Then, they discovered they had the guilty party TWICE and didn't know it. The surprise of who the guilty party was gave the episode some added punch.
-
The second episode involved a man who would hold up banks and force the occupants of the bank to strip off their clohtes and then he would make various people simulate sex with one another. Tense show with a wrong apprehension.
-
Then I put on the new 40th anniversary edition of THE JUNGLE BOOK. In 1999, Disney released the first DVD of the movie and the transfer was 1.33:1 which they insisted was the original theatrical ratio.
Off now eight years later in this new platinum edition that the aspect ratio is 1.75:1 which on the packaging is NOW listed as the original aspect ratio.
Don't get me wrong. I LOVE having the film in an anamorphic transfer which looks visually lush without being garish. I'll have the sync up the two DVDs and compare the full frame version with the anamorphic version. There were one or two spots when it looked like Mowgli's head was getting chopped off just a bit at the top of the frame.
Also on the disc is a new Dolby Digital 5.1 enhancerd home theater mix along with the original mono mix. The surround mix does open up the music and put a little bit off low end sound in, but for the rest of the movie, it's not at all noticeable.
-
I started THE JUNGLE BOOK over again to listen to the audio commentary with the son of the director (who voiced Mowgli), one of the Sherman brothers, and one at the artists at Disney who greatly appreciates the film (his fist Disney animation as a kid which shows you how young he is).
THE JUNGLE BOOK has never been one of my favorite Disneys. Rather than a real plot, it's really just a series of encounters between Mowgli and various jungle creatures. Never really thought about it before but the plot is merely a walk through the jungle on the way to the "man village."
-
I asked Miss Blue Moon if she would like to hear THE BRAIN FROM PLANET X on CD, and this was her response. ;D
-
DR td I have only recently read about Wainwright's salute to Judy, but I don't know what it's all about.
Does he sing her songs, show her movies, wear her clothes? Or a combination of the three? Any reviews?
-

Oh. Never mind. That was DHL.
Besides, FedEx has been here. UPS has been here. USPS has been here. All managed to make deliveries. DHL insists the building was closed and not available for deliveries. The security guard, however, knows DHL trucks well, and makes note of all who stop. NO DHL TRUCK has stopped here today. There is a driver who is totally not going to the right address....or ....is taking some personal time off.
DHL insists delivery will be made "tomorrow". I equally insist that delivery be made "today" and that they find someone who can actually locate the address and deliver the package.
We're exchanging e-mails, but I'm talking to logs.
-

This film is in the same class, for me, as Disney's "Robin Hood," "Fox and the Hound" and, to a lesser extent, "Pete's Dragon." They all take a major effort on my part to sit through. And I don't do it willingly.

VERY Strange Thing:
My "Mickey-Judy" box was just delivered by DHL.
I asked the driver what the deal was....and he was very surprised by the tracking information which I called up for him on my computer. He had just left the DHL facility with new packages and mine was among them. He said there was no way anyone could have attempted delivery earlier because it had not been on another truck.
Modern technology CAN suck.
-
I attribute the successful delivery to shankshaw's "vibes."
THANKS.
-
So...everything I hoped to receive in the mail this week was delivered today.
Incredible.
Anything else is bonus.

Still, I am THRILED that you got it after all the effort. Maybe one day mine will come, and I can look at the box sitting on the shelf unopened because I'll be treading through another TV box set.
No complaints. I love TV, and the movies won't be going anywhere, so they'll be there when I'm ready and available to watch them.
My first will be BABES ON BROADWAY.
-
I tried for about an hour and a half last night to call my mother and got a busy signal. Didn't think too much about it, because she could have been on her dial-up computer or talking long distance to friends or relatives. At lunchtime today, I tried again a few times, still getting a busy signal. I called my aunt who lives in the same retirement community, but in a different court, and she said she'd had the same experience. She'd called two other people in my mother's court and also gotten busy signals, so we suspect it's because of the installation of the new phone system. In any case, I'm going straight to Mom's when I leave here in 10 minutes, which is what I wanted to set up with her by phone in the first place.
-
Just a quick hello...
DBF and I were roaming a DVD sale near the bookstore on campus. Many of the titles did not interest me until I looked in the next bin.. Below two movies with Pauly Shore in I noted a boxed set. I pulled the set out and to my surprise it was Upstairs, Downstairs. Here is the real kicker, it was selling for 4.99. Yes, 4.99! Of course I bought them and I am now looking forward to viewing it. I have seen parts of it here and there. Someday I would like to get Brideshead Revisited and Jewel in the Crown.

I have to wonder: If I had not tracked it and just waited it out, would it have come today? Or....did my initial e-mail a couple of hours ago initiate a search that led to its being added to packages being delivered this afternoon?
I suppose I'll never know.

My Christmas vacation will be December 10 through January 1. I will make my annual trek to South Carolina at that time.
November has its fair share of holidays with one three-day weekend (Veterans Day weekend) and Thanksgiving's four-day weekend.
I have a number of days of "paid leave" and "floating holidays" I must use judiciously between now and then...making myself five or six three-day weekends out of regular ones over the next six weeks.
-
Vacation management is so complex.
-
And, of course, there's a bit to look forward to that is coming out on DVD in December:
First, "With A Song in My Heart" one of my all-time favorite movies with my all-time favorite dramatic actress of the 1950s.
Next are the Disney tins. And just when will "Texas John Slaughter" and "Tenderfoot" be among the treasures Disney releases???
And then there's all the Harry Potter films on HD-DVD. YIKES!

I am looking forward to these freleases as well.
I just saw the picture of the HARRY POTTER gift edition set with all 5 POTTER films in either HD-DVD or Blu-ray. Expensive, but it's a very elaborate set and with features that won't be on the standard def releases.

Now, I'm going to head back down and begin catching up with last night's TV, specifically BOSTON LEGAL and SVU.
-
Oh, last night's ratings:
DANCING WITH THE STARS won the largest audience (but with three million fewer viewers who watched the ladies the night before).
HOUSE won the 18-49 rating and scored on a couple hundred thousand fewer viewers than DANCING.
REAPER scored GILMORE GIRLS type numbers, about 500K more than VERONICA MARS did last year.
SVU won the 10 p,m. hour (and finished second for the night in 18-49). CANE finished second and BOSTON LEGAL third despite the huge lead-in BOSTON LEGAL had from DANCING.
-
Off to return to viewing.
WBBL.
-
DR singdaw - I'll probably be second-acting the show since I'll be in rehearsal until 5:00 down around Macy's. So, I may see you in the lobby....
You've read it here first, folks - DR Jose admits that he is the real second act trouble!
-
Der B and I have returned. He looks wonderfully natty and cool with his crisply trimmed hair and beard. I look... well, I look like I've got shorter hair. But it's an improvement over how I looked earlier.
-
Wow! Fifty years ago for WEST SIDE STORY?
And speaking of Sondheim...click HERE (http://www.literary-arts.org/boxoffice/119/) to see where I'll be on March 11, 2008!!!!!!!
-
And here's a sneak peak at a review that will appear on Broadwayworld.com at some point today....<SNIP>
That is a great review! Sounds like this guy gets it. :)

Thanks DRs for the Vibes for Peter. He has 3 problems and it is very difficult to get the medications to deal with each without effecting the others adversley. His liver function is the major problem at the moment so all other medications have ceased. At least his attitude to the fight is good - this time last year it was a major concern. I was not sure I would see him when I returned from the USA HHW tour.
-
Now for the catching of up.
-
What Disney Tins are next up?
-
Quote from: Edisaurus on Today at 09:51:11am
Of course, the most enthusiastic audience will be the closing night, full of HHWers!
The place'll be crawling with them, I'm telling you...
Well, I don't know about you, but I find crawling between the seats undignified. Not to mention sticky, if soda has been spilled. I plan to be standing or walking whenever I'm not seated.
-
Oh never mind.....Amazon has the answer.....Oswald, Donald, and Disneyland Magic....hmmmmmm

~~~Continued Vibes for DR Tomovoz's DF Peter!!~~~
....and still no ANNETTE, I see >:(
Do any DRs remember the the old TV series WHIRLYBIRDS? I recently purchased as set of many episodes on DVDr...this show is really fun! Stars Craig Hill (Ray Stricklyn's ex) and Kenneth Tobey...suprisingly good plots and the two leads are very good in their roles.
DR td I have only recently read about Wainwright's salute to Judy, but I don't know what it's all about.
Does he sing her songs, show her movies, wear her clothes? Or a combination of the three? Any reviews?
Rufus has faithfully recreated Judy's concerts at Carnegie Hall (and if I'm not mistaken other venues) with complete orchestra and arrangements. Only when he performs "Get Happy" does he do any sort of drag, and you guessed it, it's Judy's busy "Mr. Monotony" tux.
-
When you were walking, DearReaderLaura, were the fish flying or were you swimming by? ;)
-
Well, pretty much everything is better with butter. :)
But I thought that everything's better with Blue Bonnet on it!
;D
Just a quick hello...
DBF and I were roaming a DVD sale near the bookstore on campus. Many of the titles did not interest me until I looked in the next bin.. Below two movies with Pauly Shore in I noted a boxed set. I pulled the set out and to my surprise it was Upstairs, Downstairs. Here is the real kicker, it was selling for 4.99. Yes, 4.99! Of course I bought them and I am now looking forward to viewing it. I have seen parts of it here and there. Someday I would like to get Brideshead Revisited and Jewel in the Crown.
Was it the ENTIRE "Upstairs, Downstairs (http://www.amazon.com/Upstairs-Downstairs-Collectors-Megaset-Complete/dp/B000AYEIWC/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/102-3712075-1692941?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1190845989&sr=8-1)" series?? For only $4.99?? Can you go back and get me one?? :D Or was it just a particular season?
-
Jose thanks for the lemon meringue report. I suspect I would have agreed with Alet.
Matt H, please remember to add a semi-spoiler to your new show posts. Now when I watch HOUSE I’m going to be anticipating the ending, not going with the flow of the show.
Hey all, trying to catch up, at least today. Yesterday was quite interesting --
A few weeks ago, I was experiencing some ear blockage in the morning after waking up. It would go away a few hours into the day and I didn't think it was any more than just alergies.
Last Saturday, I woke up and the blockage didn't go away at all. I tried sinus med's, chewing taffy, and nothing worked. Worst of all, I wasn't able to hear well out of my right ear. On Sunday, it got worse. It sounded like I was underwater when I talked and I couldn't hear the piano I was playing well and when I sang, I couldn't hear anything but me. Not good when you're leading song. On Sunday night, I tried some ear drops that were suppose to flush out wax, but that didn't really help, either. Last night, I had callbacks for "A Christmas Carol" and it was one of the hardest things I ever had to do. Not only did I have to talk quietly, I had to play the piano and listen to singers. Frustration is just the tip of the iceburg.
I finally calld the Dr. yesterday and made an appointment for today. Sure enough, he saw a great ball of wax in my right ear (not to mention some sinus issues in general) and scheduled an ear cleaning for me. So, I had the cleaning done, and low and behold, there was actually something in my ear!!! It looked like a black pencil eraser. I have a feeling it's been there for a LONG time. I only say that because my ear is now cleaned out, I can hear really well - in fact better than I could before, and my ear feels different. That part is hard to explain, but you'll have to take my word for it. Hopefully, this will solve all my ear issues for now. It is great to be able to hear.
Bruce, GREAT review! :D
Tomovoz, GET BETTER vibes for your friend Peter!
Edi, thanks for the close up of your lamp and of the view from your desk, both are lovely.
Elmore-congrats on being off the hook with the DMV, always a relief.
Bitter is better with butter.
Betty Botter bought some butter,
"But," she said, "the butter's bitter;
If I put it in my batter,
It will make my batter bitter;
But a bit of better butter,
That would make my batter better."
So she bought a bit of butter,
Better than her bitter butter,
And she put it in her batter,
And the batter was not bitter;
So 'twas better Betty Botter
Bought a bit of better butter
I just put down the pencil: I scored 101 measures of music and I've got about 90 to go. I'll stop by Staples and copy it, then run down to the copyists and drop off the original 26 or so pages, run to the performance, see everyone and head back home to finish this baby.
WOW! Continued getting all the work done vibes!
Thanks, Ginny! I adore her, and she was great in the show!!
I bet she makes it easy to be a proud aunt.
I have always appreciated a good vacuum cleaner, wise decision getting a good one.
I asked Miss Blue Moon if she would like to hear THE BRAIN FROM PLANET X on CD, and this was her response. ;D
:D ;D
-
From Michael Dale:
The Brain From Planet X
Bruce Kimmel (book, score and direction) and David Wechter's (book) musical may be a spoof of 1950's low-budget sci-fi flicks, but its roots are solidly embedded in musical comedy. From the borscht belt jokes to the wildly comic performances to the spiffy show-biz score, pretty tap-dancing showgirls and buff showboys, The Brain From Planet X struts its considerable assets in an unapologetic quest to entertain. And entertain it does. I laughed, I tapped my toes, I laughed some more and had a swell time.
Looking a little like Phil Silvers in a straightjacket, the hilariously diabolical Barry Pearl wears an enormous brain headdress and big black glasses as the title character, determined to conquer earth by sapping us of our emotions and love for the American suburban way. Alet Taylor, as fellow alien Yoni (decked out like an intergalactic Ann-Margret), stops the show dead with her vamp number "I Need An Earthman." Her Planet X associate, Zubrick (Cason Murphy) is a bit of a tight-ass, but once he discovers Earth's greatest cultural achievement, musical theatre, he becomes a dancing fool and exuberantly leads the chorus in a smashing number called "The Brain Tap." (The night I attended there were some difficulties with the microphones, but Murphy was loud and clearly heard singing over a multitude of tapping feet.)
Back on Earth, General Mills of the United States Army (a bellowing Richard Pruitt), assisted by Private Partz (Chad Harlow, who has no lines but whose subtle reactions are a scream) recruit part-time inventor Fred Bunson (a nicely earnest Rob Evans) to help save the planet. But it may be too late to save Fred's wife, Joyce ( Amy Bodnar, who continually flashes an eerily toothy smile). Meanwhile, Merrill Grant is a comical whirlwind as libido-charged teenager Donna Bunson, who can belt out the catchy "Good Girl/Bad Girl" while athletically flinging herself all over her beat poet boyfriend (Paul Downs Colaizzo).
Kimmel's direction is in the classic George Abbott style of faster, louder, funnier, with jokes ranging from sly and satirical (one of Fred's inventions is a device to help 1950's teenagers develop a taste for tobacco) to the lowest of wordplay ("You wouldn't know the Earth from Uranus."). Adam Cates' flashy choreography and Jessa-Raye Court's colorful costumes add to the fun, making The Brain From Planet X a terrific time for tired businessmen, matinee ladies and over-caffeinated kids alike.
Bravo! That is a little more like it.
I find it interesting that the gentleman who slammed the show at Broadwayworld used several phrases that were identical to a bad review that was given to the CD. Small world, eh?
Time to get dinner cooking.
A "Greek" salad.
Roast lamb.
And taters.
-
Matt-LOL, I had a similar incident only my problem was due to the cotton off of a q-tip. After it was removed I was amazed how well I could hear out of my right ear. :D I asked the doctor to do the same to my left ear, no go as that one does have some nerve damage. :(
Ron, I’m very pleased your packages arrived for you today & you may now relax and enjoy them.
MBarnum, I vaguely remember WHIRLYBIRDS
-
It was great to meet DR Jeanne today and to see DRs singdaw, Musicguy, Jason, Jose, FJL, and Miss Karen today! I suspect I missed someone, but they were all assembling in the lobby after the show for dinner. I headed back here: I think I'll lay out the rest of the score and number the bars and pages. Then, if there's time, I'll write the ending so it's good. I'd like to be in bed by 9 pm and get up at 4:30 or so. My goal is to finish the piece no later than 3 pm tomorrow and take it down to the copyists.
As for "The Brain," I believe we had our smallest audience but they seemed to enjoy the show. I'll let the other DRs ost their thoughts on that. My friends Richard Norton, producer of EATING RAUL and the wonderful UNIDENTIFIED HUMAN REMAINS AND THE TRUE NATURE OF LOVE, and Mark Robinson, who's directing the musical based on GEMINI in NYMF this year, were in attendance. They both loved the show and Richard told me the cast was perfect with not a weak link.
Now, a bit of dinner and some work.
-
Thanks for the first BRAIN update. The good news just continues. :)
MusicGuy had better have given everyone hugs from me. I'm a big hugger, and you can't really escape it. Kind of like a mosquitoe buzzing around your ear that just quite won't go away! ::)
-
Very cute? Whose lap is she sitting on anyway?
Har har!
I was really amazed at how she could change from the puppet voice, which was very gravelly, to the very high register she sang in with ease, as well as being able to talk and manipulating the puppet at the same time without having any training.
Well, she did have a voice teacher at one time. The teacher apparently had auditioned for the same role and didn't get it. She came to see the show and was very critical of Sophie's performance and quite disgruntled and didn't come back after intermission.
Sophie was rather hurt that she didn't stay for the rest of the show. I'm glad I wasn't there that night. How immature! She should be proud that her student did so well. Grow up, lady!
All that man does is hug! However, I'm not sure which one was meant to be from you, so you and he will have to clarify the finer points of all such transactions.
I just saw a commercial for womens; clothing, I think it was Talbots, but it starts out with her walkingaling the wallnext to Central Park at the far South end, where Danise, Vicky & I started our carriage ride, and where we saw that poor lady get hit by a city bus, then it continued with her walking down the path by the Central Park Zoo, then standing by the Resevior .... she was taking the JoseSPiano/HHW Central Park Tour!!!
BTW Jose, what was the name of that wonderful place where we had brunch that morning?
-
2 more workdays until the HHW weekend
as the Vixter would say... I'm getting psyched!!!!
I saw that commercial too!
I'm getting really psyched. I'm working in the morning for a while, then Sam arrives and we go to Omaha in the afternoon. We shall dine in Omaha and try to get some sleep so we can get to the airport for our 5:50 AM flight Friday morning.
JRand: in answer to your Tarot Deck question, which Jane forwarded to me == nope, never used that deck, but it looks way lovely!
-
Penny! Did you get my e-mail back to you??
-
I'm looking forward to a few days without thinking about my business. I'm getting the expected ups and downs of starting a new business, so I worry about it a lot. This weekend, no worrying allowed or a loud...only fun.
-
We will probably be rather tired---I got 4 hours sleep last night and I doubt if Greg will get much sleep tonight because he has to uppack gear, reconfigure and pack more gear for the trip. It has turned into a working vacation for him. Besides White Plains on Sunday AM, he'll be volunteering to do some shooting for our egg cream film. I told him he could "just say no", but he has a hard time saying no to people who need his help.
So maybe we'll make a very LATE trip to Coney, or I'll go on my own. Should be pretty safe, right?
-
...
This weekend, no worrying allowed or a loud...only fun.
Sounds good to me, DR Cillaliz! No dieting, either, right?
Yep, Sarabeth's Kitchen. That's where the photo was taken from which I created my avatar. DH Richard and I have also eaten at the SK up in DR Elmore's neighborhood.
Yes.
A VERY excited Samantha just called me and told me every item she has packed to see if she needs to bring anything else. I told her I was getting ready to pack and she said "OMIGOD you haven't packed yet???? It's taken me all day to decide what to take" She and I have never really spent much time alone together and now it will be days...I think it will be a blast. She will be arriving in SC mid afternoon and we'll go to Omaha from here and the adventures begin.
Actually I better get packing. I was thinking I had tomorrow morning, but I told my web designer I'd meet with him at 10:00 AM to get the website up and running.
-
DR Cillaliz - looking forward to meeting Samantha. Hope you two have a safe trip to Omaha and a smooth flight to NYC on Friday. See you Saturday!
Packing Vibes for Cilla!! This is so exciting! So many HHWers all in the same place at the same time...and I can't join. :'(
Someday, I will. ;)
Just remember EVERYONE...LOTS OF PICTURES!! :D
Thanks Ginny. I'll start packing soon, but I'm not going to move for a little while, Boo decided to sleep on my lap and I want to give her a chance to cuddle since I'll be leaving her for a while
-
Pictures! Pictures! Pictures! Post some pictures! HHWers hit The Big Apple and those left behind want to see PICTURES!
. . . . please. ;D
Sam and I are both taking camera. I will take my laptop so over the weekend....we will post photos.
I want to see photos of Music Guy and Jeanne and everyone who is playing today
Where ARE those people with the photos??!!??
I liked Private Practice tonight. I'm thinking the dancing naked may be a fun thing to start doing
-
I had a very full evening of viewing tonight. I began by watching last night's BOSTON LEGAL. Alan's case wasn't particularly interesting to me this week. None of the new lawyers impressed me at all. (And I'll bet Jerry and the new female lawyer he's sharing an office with are going to be set up as a love interest.)
-
I liked Private Practice tonight. I'm thinking the dancing naked may be a fun thing to start doing
I'm glad someone did. I kind of felt that it fell flat. I never got fully vested in the various tribulations they were dealing with.
But I'll give it another couple of chances before I decide it's not for me.
-
SVU introduced a new fixture to the squad room (he was a recurring character last season.)
Cynthia Nixon will no doubt be up for a guest performance Emmy next year even though I guessed the ending from a mile away since I have seen the movie PRIMAL FEAR.
-
AS THE WORLD TURNS did feature the gay characters today. Luke and Noah did share a kiss, naturally in front of an open door so that Noah's father could walk right in at that exact moment and see them. So very soap operaish.
-
"Hey New York I'm headin' your way....." Rose Hovick GYPSY Sondheim
Lots of HHW'ers can sing that song today!!!
Travel AND fun vibes for all....
-
Go and have fun, I will stay home and clean the fireplace.
I remember WHIRLYBIRDS, DR MBARNUM....and another helicopter drama titled RIPCORD.
-
(And I'll bet Jerry and the new female lawyer he's sharing an office with are going to be set up as a love interest.)
You're probably right, but I was actually thinking that Jerry and Clarence's (Clarice's) singing partner should hook up. ;)
-
I watched BACK TO YOU, the new sitcom again tonight. This will be the last time I bother watching it. Once again, Ty Burrell was the only funny thing to me in the whole show, and as much as I like him, I'm not checking back each week just for his small part of the story.
Most of the episode involved a succession of dead goldfish, and I just didn't find all the mishaps funny at all.
-
Page 12 "Some People" dance from a girl in a really ugly dress.
You're probably right, but I was actually thinking that Jerry and Clarence's (Clarise's) singing partner should hook up. ;)
I thought maybe Clarence and Clarence's partner would eventually hook up!
-
I thought maybe Clarence and Clarence's partner would eventually hook up!
There is that, too.
-
Waiting for PRIVATE PRACTICE to come on, I put THE JUNGLE BOOK back on and started watching the special features. There was one 6-minute storyboard sequence that was never animated but which was going to feature a hippo character voiced by Frank Fontaine. Nice to see, but I think Walt was right in having the animators drop it. Another big goofy character wasn't needed with Baloo already there.
-
And I ended my evening with DIRTY SEXY MONEY. Kind of interesting Kennedy-like family full of misbehaving adult kids and secrets that the various members of the family will need to be hid. Wonderful cast playing the spoiled Darlings and Peter Krause playing the lawyer covering up their messes.
-
I recorded CSI: NY which I'll try to squeeze in sometime tomorrow. I really would like to finish up THE JUNGLE BOOK set tomorrow before getting back to CRIMINAL MINDS.
One nice thing about CRIMINAL MINDS is that the episodes are not open-ended or serialized. Each episode stands on its own as a separate story. That's a great pleasure after watching all of the serialized DVD sets over the past two or three weeks.
-
Darn it all to heck! My camera captured only ONE photo before the battery gave out. But it's a beaut:
(http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t87/singdaw/P9260001.jpg?t=1190863365)
I can't remember if this was BEFORE or AFTER they got completely smashed...
-
It's a little past time for me to leave work, so I'm leaving. Off to TV watching. :D
-
Needless to say, it was great fun, with laughter, food, merriment, and legs. But if I don't go to bed now, I'll be completely no good tomorrow, so I will have to add more details tomorrow, unless other DRs with more energy than I can fill you in before then.
Good night!
-
Back from a lovelier than lovely evening with all manner of lovelier than lovely folks. The show was pretty good - sort of quiet small crowd, who became more vocal as the show went on. We had another complete audience dud for the Brain Tap and I'm finding it really disheartening how hard it is to just get normal, uncomfortable people into the scene - everyone we've had, save for Friday night's mark, has been terrible and "on" instead of just being embarrassed and real, which is all it takes for that scene to work like gangbusters. Actually, as Cason was walking the aisle I pointed out who I wanted him to take and he misunderstood who I was pointing to (MusicGuy).
We had one light cue screwup, so that we lost a huge laugh at the beginning of the first General's scene, the first forty seconds of which played in complete darkness because a light cue was jumped. Why it took forty seconds to jump back to the right cue is unknown to me and no one cared to explain it to me.
And there were several missed sfx because of wiring problems, which I told them must be fixed by Friday.
After the show, we all toddled off to the Theatre Row diner, where we supped, and them MusicGuy incited us all to go to the Brooklyn Diner for dessert, which we all dutifuly did. We had so much fun - Singdaw is a great guy, Jeanne looked great and seemed to be having fun, Miss Karen was delightfully delightful, Jose, Jason, Cason, BJ, and Music Guy were all in fine fettle - we laughed and laughed and just when we thought we could laugh no more we laughed again. Tales were told, much of it quite ribald.
No picture of the hickey? Spooo!
-
Going to write a bit and then head downstairs to bed.
Good night!
-
It's still a very cute photo. I am sad to miss Music Guy and Jeanne!
When I got back home there was an annoying e-mail from the LACC people - two weeks ago I'd requested payment number two for our fundraiser, and it's just been a nightmare of nitpicking crap from them ever since, and we're no closer to getting the check than we were two weeks ago (the check was due promptly on the 15th). Unfortunately, the then president of LACC who arranged the funding, is no longer there, and he was fearful that this would happen. I've asked him to be of whatever help he can.
I hate packing, especially after spending the last two weeks UNpacking. But I haven't unpacked everything yet, so I find myself looking for things in boxes.
This is making me tired!
But---this time tomorrow we'll be in NY, NY!
-
I had another e-mail from the owner of the apartment where I'm staying - he asked me as a favor if I'd show his friend the apartment this evening, as his friend is thinking about subletting in October. I thought the friend's name sounded familiar, and when he showed up to see the jernt, I knew immediately it was Greg Morrison, the compoaer of The Drowsy Chaperone, whom I'd met in LA when I recorded the overture. We had a nice chat. And now here I am, not quite ready to write the notes.
Good vibes for good cash flow, bk. See you soon!
MUSIC GUY in the Brain Tap......a dead person would laugh at that sketch (a Sunshine Boys reference)
40 seconds of blackout before anyone noticed?
-
Great pic DR SINGDAW....is that Elaine Stritch back there?
-
To end our evening here.....if you can get past the badly written banter of the first minute or so....you can hear Miss Miyoshi Umeki sing ... as you may not be familiar with... unless you have one of her solo albums.
Very nice.
I think TCB mentioned a bad review for the CD of The Brain - I don't remember any.
I think he just said some of the criticisms were the same....same writer, perhaps?
-
Watching The Absent Minded Professor....somebody at Disney loved Nancy Olsen....
I'm glad someone did. I kind of felt that it fell flat. I never got fully vested in the various tribulations they were dealing with.
But I'll give it another couple of chances before I decide it's not for me.
I think it will get better once they are working more as a team. I actually watched it, but was interrupted about 10 times so I watched it again on my DVR. I liked it better the second time. I really just like the idea of dancing naked ;D
Beautiful pictures Laura!
AS THE WORLD TURNS did feature the gay characters today. Luke and Noah did share a kiss, naturally in front of an open door so that Noah's father could walk right in at that exact moment and see them. So very soap operaish.
Matt, since I tape and watch later...
Can you put a spoiler alert on please... :)
I have been rather enjoying ATWT as of late.. That show ebbs and flows for curiousity for me.
-
Time for me to get some sleep. The cats are most unhappy with the big box that comes out before mom leaves town, but they'll adjust.
-
I guess I'm saying I don't remember any bad reviews of the CD.
