Good morning, DR elmore!

I am sitting here trying to decide whether or not I am going to work this morning. I stayed home yesterday, I slept a lot, kept warm, and cuddled with the kitties. I guess I feel well enough to go back today, but I am just feeling out of it.

Where is Slingblade? Where is Ben? Where is FJL?

Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And I'm not back from the gym. I could tell that as soon as I woke up earlier that my body was still sleepy and that a day off from the gym would be a good thing. -Besides, it's usually recommend to take a day after workouts anyway, so...
And, boy, did that extra hour of sleep feel good.
-
bk - You need to eat! Yes, stress is probably contributing to your stomach woes, but stress on an empty stomach is not helping either. You need something in your stomach to absorb all the stress, so to speak. Keep bananas, apples, oranges, etc., nearby. Or even things like small bags of snacks - baked potato chips, pita chips, trail mix, etc.

Good morning!
Cooler this morning with a really chilly breeze blowing when I went out to get the newspaper. Looks like sweatshirt weather when I go out to do my errands later.
-
My boss is dumb as a box of hair!!!!!
My last principal was, too, and that was FOUR miserable years of dealing with someone who had the brains of a flea. I was SO glad to be done with him when I retired. Sorry you're still so encumbered.
-
I actually got my kitchen floor mopped this morning! I had the time, and since I figured I'd be knee-deep in Fastbinder dramatics later today, I took the opportunity to get it over with!
Now, watch me spill something major when I'm fixing lunch later today.

Hello, everyone. I've been trying to take a much-needed break for a couple days, but find that my time is being taken up by all the errands and laundry that have piled up while I was busy doing what I must do. Ugh! And you all know how difficult it is to catch up on the posts once you get behind. I am still behind.
Very briefly:
No more carbon monoxide for LARRY!
Glad you're getting some foot relief, Fred.

I wonder why , when I was small, I ever wanted to be a grownup?
Well put, Vixmom. There are days when I feel like ALL I do is laundry and errands. sigh.
-
Speaking of errands, I must go do another--as soon as today's laundry is done, that is.
Vixmom, I have a friend who has a housekeeper come TWICE a week to clean his house, plus once a week to do his laundry. Just for him and his dog! Not fair, not fair, I say!!
-
Just got a new diagram of the stage, which is more accurate, and I'm now probably going to have to redo everything I did last night. At least the actual thinking part for most of it is done, and it's just redrawing.
-
Good Afternoon!
After another wonderful morning of watching wonderful people dance - it really is amazing watching really good dancers do their thing! - I'm now in the midst of a quite luxurious three-hour lunch break! -Just the way the scheduling worked out today, and, best of all, I'm still on the clock. And since I am just a few blocks from Macy's, hmm...
-
Irving Berling also wrote that fabulous musical - Calling Me Madam.
;D
Well, songs such as...
"The Hostess with the Mostes' on the Ball"
"Can You Use Any Money Today?"
"The Best Thing For You (Would Be Me)"
"They Like Me"
...really do seem to fit in that show too. ;)

My brother, Jay, is currently out in Brooklyn with his girlfriend - she has family out there. He's not sure when he'll be coming back into Manhattan, although he did say he wanted to see a show tonight, so... ??? I guess when he calls, he calls.

Loved your move announcement, DR Edi!
It reminded me of something that happened here at work the other day. One of our substitute reference librarians is a former full-time member of our department, who resigned several years ago suffering burn-out. She arrived to sub last week, and announced, "Well, hell has officially frozen over!" It was her way of telling us that she'd applied for one of the vacant positions on our staff!
BTW, she's the one who came up with the term "information waitress" that I use a lot.

...
How about "Derelict Day Care Provider"?
Remember the bodily function that was being discussed here the other evening? Well, one of our bottom-feeders did "it" on the floor, right in front of my grants reference collection :P
-
I had a full afternoon of viewing.
I began with last night's LAW & ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT. Michael Cerveris was the guest star. It was a case that seemed to be about sunken treasure but ended up being about something much more important. Good story.
Why is Vincent D'Onofrio letting his beard grow out? It's not a good look for him.
-
Next came last night's CSI. One of the very worst CSI episodes I've ever seen. Obviously Halloween influened, about some murders taking place at a small movie studio that specializes in horror movies, it was just the pits. The episode did play up Jorja Fox's soon to happen departure (hooray!), but the girl who's obviously been cast as her replacement was absurd last night, so I'm not sure she's going to be much of an improvement.
-
DR MBarnum was right on the money about last night's THE OFFICE. One of the most hilarious half hours I've watched it ages. Loved it!
-
DH Richard and I thought the characters were modeling some very bad audience behaviors.
And I agree with you.
der Brucer
Me, too! And I watched the episode right after I got home after ushering for a show last night, so it was very present in my mind!
-
Next, I watched the third of fourteen installments of BERLIN ALEXANDERPLATZ. The main character is such a weak man; he can be rather irritating especially since his physical presence suggests strength and brutality. His is completely a slave to his own whims, passions, moods, and emotions.
-
Remember the bodily function that was being discussed here the other evening? Well, one of our bottom-feeders did "it" on the floor, right in front of my grants reference collection :P

Thanks, DR der Brucer. I was afraid we were just being old fuddy-duddies.

I ended my afternoon with an HD episode of LAW & ORDER on TNT-HD. This was the episode that won Elaine Stritch her first Emmy Award (she played a feisty defense attorney). Her client, a suburban mom who had been turning tricks on the side and killed a man who threatened to bring her secret life out into the open, was played by Felicity Huffman.

And people wonder why I don't want to work with the public. ::)

They don't know how to write proper French there! :o :o ;)

Well, for once, I have to disagree with DR JoseSPiano but I think Dame Andrews does a great job with I'm Not Getting Married; it is a tour de force actually since she sings all the parts of the song, which is, here, not supposed to be the version from the original show but something taken out of its context and adapted to a "new" work. And we get to hear all the words...
And I still believe that Dame Andrews is a heck of a good interpreter of Sondheim's songs! Too bad she never got to release a whole cd of such songs!
I'll just sat to DR JoseSPiano: "Qu'il mange du gâteau de chez Levain!!"

i don't enjoy any of their baked goods, don't know why cuz there must be some discrepancies from region to region. for some odd reason keith still continues to buy me treats from there if he goes in for coffee without me. i do enjoy their hot chocolate.

RE: last night's UGLY BETTY.
*
*
*
Oh yes they were rude! (at WICKED). However since it played an important part of the story i was okay with it.
I must say i loved most of the show. Especially everything they showed of WICKED. The best part to me (besides them showing the songs) was that they matched up the songs with what was happening with the characters. I loved that part of it. And when betty and henry were stuck in the air. Well that was just too good.
I also loved having vanessa williams be in the stall and overhear marc and amanda. That was too funny.
The only part i really didn't like was that betty and henry were not able to watch WICKED together. It was really funny watching them text. But i really wanted them to get to see at least some of the show together.
And i loved the parts with justin and his playbill collection. I especially loved how that one scene came back later on.
-
Thanks to all for the favorables reviews about our moving announcement!
I haven't heard any comments from people I actually sent them to...

Only 5 pages on a Friday afternoon?
TOD - been listening to Chess this afternoon. A mix of the Concert CD, the London CD and the Broadway CD.
Matthew, which release of the concert version do you have? The original (and rare) version that (if I remember correctly) was recalled and which has 24 tracks on disc 1 and no bonus track on disc 2 or the second release that has fewer tracks on disc 1? I actually have both here at work. I also have the Swedish cast recording. I really like this, but I would love to have a translation of the lyrics to the new stuff. :)
-
They are just starting to air the first episode of DIRT here on our Bravo. I was wondering if anyone here watched it (DR MattH?). Is it any good?
I liked it. Courtney Cox plays a VERY different character than Monica from "Friends." There is a lot of sex in this show, too...so if watching that isn't your cuppa, then you might want to pass. ;)
-
Page six? That's what I come back to?
-
Anyway, I just got back from the follow-up appointment at the second-opinion vet about my cat, Ebonie, and she DOES NOT HAVE TO HAVE HER CLAWS AMPUTATED!! :D The vet said that they don't even need to do a biopsy! She (the vet) said that there still is a little residual swelling, which should go down, but that it's a LOT better than it was last week. Se said for me to continue with the ointment for about a week more (and finish off the antibiotics that I got from the first vet), then that's it!

These days are just unbelievable, but the good news is that I did so much work yesterday and last night, that aside from about an hour's worth of stuff, I'm done for the evening. I think I won't go to that party - just make some pasta and relax.
-
The first of the band/performer rehearsals was splendid. We didn't have two of our six band members, but they still sounded great. And these singers are just amazing. Everyone was appreciative of the little diagrams they got, along with their show order sheet. Hearing all these songs back to back made me feel a little more comfortable that the evening will be entertaining. A couple of the charts we wished we'd had more time with (with this many singers, you just plow ahead), but we have built in an hour on Sunday to run problem charts with just the band, which will be very helpful indeed.
-
Good news indeed DR George.
-
Matthew, which release of the concert version do you have? The original (and rare) version that (if I remember correctly) was recalled and which has 24 tracks on disc 1 and no bonus track on disc 2 or the second release that has fewer tracks on disc 1? I actually have both here at work. I also have the Swedish cast recording. I really like this, but I would love to have a translation of the lyrics to the new stuff. :)
Uh... it's hard to tell. While there is no track listing with numbers on the jewel case or even the booklet or the CD. iTunes tells me Disc One has 11 tracks and Disc Two has 9 tracks. There is nothing to indicate a bonus track anywhere. It's going to go on eBay soon, is this really rare?
-
That is the version I have too DR Matthew. No bonus track that I can remember!
The price in the UK (Amazon) is quite high!
-
Thanks to all for the favorables reviews about our moving announcement!
I haven't heard any comments from people I actually sent them to...
;D
that is one funny announcement!

...
Jane, I'd been gone from A2 almost 10 years before Zingerman's was founded. I haven't been anywhere in Michigan for 5 years or so. I think we'll try to get up there sometime in 2008.
Of course, Zingerman's does have a website...
-
Thanks Jane and Tomovoz. :)

Wait...did you mean this 1994 "Chess In Concert" recording?
I was wrong...I was thinking about THIS (http://cgi.ebay.com/ABBA-RARE-org-Danish-CHESS-2set-CD-UNRELEASED-SONGS_W0QQitemZ170164429590QQihZ007QQcategoryZ307QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) recording...and it's not a concert recording. It's from the 2001/2002 Danish tour, sung in English. Check out the tracks! This eBay listing (with which I have no affiliation...other than I bought a copy from this seller) says:
This is the RARE and out of print of this SUPERNICE cd set !! This 2 set CD was released in 2001 and withdrawn not long after due to Benny & Bjorn objecting to the extra unreleased material included.
The cd was re released in 2003 WITHOUT lots of the material included on this version. On that CD was only the "remix" of One Night Night In Bangkok, not the rare songs that are on this one !!The songs are sung in English.
The cast of the danish version are from both Denmark, Sweden (here is Gunilla Backman from Swedish cast of Chess in Swedish) & Germany.
Only on this version of chess will you find the extra tracks like Commie Newspapers, Der Kleine Franz, The Soviet Machine, etc.
Once again this is a complete recording of the musical chess and is the only version to include these songs not available on the U.K. concept album or the original broadway cast recording.
This CD set is MINT & UNOPEN SILL SEALED IN PLASTIC.
The extra tracks not on the 2003 release are (from disc 1): #3-"Commie Newpapers," #4-"Press Conference," #16-"Der Kleine Franz," #23-"Anatoly and the Press." From disc 2: #2-"One More Opponent" ("You and I" is on the re-release, but as its own track), and #8-"Talking Chess."
The eBay ad says that disc 2, #3-"The Soviet Machine" is unreleased, but it's on the 1992 "Chess in Concert" CD.

thanks cilla, ginny & slingdaw.
I returned for x-rays of my wrist this morning. The “crack” is no longer visible & the other break is still clean. The major concern is what other damage has been done, including possible nerve damage from the swelling.
Yesterday the podiatrist wanted me on anti-inflammatory meds & today the orthopedist said the same thing & gave me something new to try. Between my concerns regarding my foot and my hand I’m trying one tonight. Taking anti-inflammatory meds messed up my insides years ago & I’m expecting this not to go well. I took the pill, after speaking to the nurse at the gastro’s office. She gave me loads of suggestions to prevent a reaction, then said everyone in the office has had a terrible stomach reaction to these meds. ;D
Jeanne, I’m going to look for some Intenzyme & see if those pills are small enough for me to swallow, if so I’ll give it a try.
-
Had some excellent pasta and am sitting on the couch like so much fish - in about an hour I'll do the rest of my work.
-
GEORGE,
The DVDs arrived today. Thanks so much!
Really glad to hear the good news about Ebonie. I was thinking about her earlier and her visit today.
-
JANE,
Intenzyme is made by Biotics Research and generally only sold through practitioners. Willner Chemists might sell it if you phone them. Otherwise, you'll need to find a practitioner to go through. Biotics Research may be able to give you the name of a practitioner in your area. If none of those work, I'll buy some myself (from my doc) and send it to you to try.
-
GEORGE,

Yea and Thanks!! ;D
-
I will watch NIP/TUCK this evening.
-
Today I decided to take a break from the treatment the podiatrist has me doing, alternating soaks in cold & warm water. I think they are making my foot and ankle worse. When I spoke to the gastro’s nurse she said those soaks have the same affect on everyone else she knows. I think I will take a long break from doing them. ;D
-
jeanne thank you for the info & offer.
-
'night, sweet dreams.
-
Will we never get to page eight?
-
I suppose I'll do my little bit of work.
-
Glad the fundraiser work is proceeding well, Bruce.
-
Continuing feel-better vibes to TCB!

DR Edi - LOVE the moving announcement!
-
DR George - Fabulous news about Ebonie!!! Callie and Boo are dancing with glee :D

Yes, I watched DIRT, and it was a total guilty pleasure. It's not a good show generally speaking. Lots of bad acting, but I got hooked on the various stories, some of the various weird characters, and yes, there was a gay storyline for some of the season so naturally I wanted to see how that played out.
And FX picked the show up for another season, and I understand there will be some wholesale changes when it appears again in 2008.
-
Tonight I went to see GONE, BABY, GONE It sounded interesting and had potential, but it just didn't quite do it for me. It was nice to be in a theater. I haven't done that in awhile
-
I always enjoy Ed Harris, so it was good to see him. In the movie, that is
-
Jane, hope you can take the anti inflamatories. It seems like there should be something you can take.
-
I watched two more BERLIN episodes. Episode 4 was a real downer, the main character drunk for most of the one hour episode. Episode 5 was much livelier as he began a series of dalliances with women who were cast off by his friend.
That finished disc 2, so tomorrow I'll start on disc 3 (of 6).
-
GHOST WHISPERER was a rather offbeat story for the series with some genuine surprises. And some upcoming life changes for the couple if the series continues to run it appears right now. Of course, the writers can always have characters change their minds.
-
We're having a warm front this weekend so I need to do major work in the yard. I was going to finish painting the screens on the gazebo, but may just put them back on and put up the plastic for the winter. I have lots to do out there...leaves to bag etc. I also need to do some things at the office, so it may be a busy weekend!
-
MOONLIGHT, once again, the best show of the evening with another fascinating story and two compelling leading characters.
-
tomorrow will be 2 months to the caucus. That means 2 months of phone calls, knocks on the door and ad after ad after ad...I am soooooo tired of this
-
Ended the evening with WOMEN'S MURDER CLUB, a fairly good mystery. Enjoyed the show once again - a keeper for me.
-
I still have MY NAME IS EARL to watch. It was a one hour episode, so it may be Sunday before I can get to it. We'll see how my time goes tomorrow.
-
DR Matt, did you read the books that Women's Murder Club is based on?
-
Watched and episode of The Gale Storm Show (aka Oh, Susanna!) It was fun, and I had forgotten how beautiful Gale is!
-
Was trying to decide if I should pop a movie into the DVD player tonight, but I think I should just head off to bed and read some more of the Charles McGraw biography that I started...seeing as how a novel is winging it's way to me from Studio City (or actually Valley Village) I had best get my reading caught up so that I can start the new book.
-
Good kitty news George!
-
Every time I stop petting Freddy, who is sitting in my lap, he tries to type on the keyboard.
-
Finished work.
-
I had a good day. I decided not to worry about getting up early since I didn't have anything scheduled today. So I slept 9 1/2 hours! Wow did I feel better this morning. It was a relaxed day and I actually got a lot more done than I thought I would. I also need to do some things at the office, so I may get up early and go there for a while tomorrow.
-
I may now drive over to our designer's house to pick up some posters for the show - we did forty and are having them all signed by as many participants as we can.
-
BK, would love to see the poster...do you have one on the net or a photo of one?
-
Speaking of sleep, maybe it's time to get to sleep.
Skip's got the alarm set for himself for 7 a.m. anyway.
-
DR Matt, did you read the books that Women's Murder Club is based on?
No, I haven't read them. Never been a great James Paterson fan, but I may change my mind and try one. Of course, I seem to have almost NO time for reading fiction right now.
-
Oh, I saw the trailer for Sweeny Todd tonight. Looks interesting. I know someone else commented that they were thinking Edward Scissorhands, I thought the same thing. I don't know what I think
-

I wondered, I read some of them and after watching even a little of the tv show, I didn't like it at all. If you really like the show maybe you shouldn't read the books :)
-
DR George - Fabulous news about Ebonie!!! Callie and Boo are dancing with glee :D
Thanks!! It is great news! ;D Ebonie and I did the Happy Dance when we got home after the appointment...but I think Ebonie was happier about getting out of the cat-carrier and the car and not so much about the news itself. ;)
-
Good kitty news George!
Thank you, too!

Ooo...this sounds intriguing. I'm still at work (but not for long) and will watch it a little later tonight. :)

I tried to make it sound intriguing without giving anything away. I really thought tonight's episode had a different vibe all around while still dealing with what the series is primarily about.

I guess I'll be heading down to bed now.
Good night!

Time for me to go home. Until later!

been listening to Chess this afternoon. A mix of the Concert CD, the London CD and the Broadway CD.
To the best of my knowledge there never was a recording of the original London Cast.
By "Concert" do you guys mean the studio concept album, recorded and released prior to the show opening?

Chess in concert - Gothenburg 1994. (In English).
"The London" album (concept) was recorded in London & Sweden

The poster is similar to the flyer, which I think I posted a while back.

Good Evening!
I managed to meet my brother, Mike, when he got into Penn Station. I was done with rehearsal a little before 6:00, and since his train was due in at 6:30, I just decided to hang out for a while since I was just two blocks away. We managed to find each other on the concourse level in Penn Station - of course, it appears we were standing just a few feet apart from each other for a minute or so before we saw each other. ;)
Then we hopped on the subway to head down to Chelsea to meet my brother, Jay, and his girlfriend. They're staying with a friend who lives in Chelsea who happens to be one of Mike's classmates/friends from the Coast Guard Academy. Once we got Steve's place, we called Jay to come down to let us into the building. Then we waited. And waited. It turned out Jay was still in a cab heading back from the Marathon Expo at the Javits Center when we had called him. So, when he said he was on his way down, he meant he was on his way downtown. Ah...
So, once the three Simbulan boys were finally reunited on the sidewalk, we headed up to Steve's apartment to drop off our bags before heading out to dinner. Steve had also just got home from work, so all of us headed out to grab a bite to eat...
-
Well...
Steve had gone out the other night to the Police concert at Madison Square Garden. After the concert he went to a bar in the Meatpacking District, where he proceeded to leave all of his concert memorabilia that night. He had called them earlier to see if his stuff might still be there, and they guy said it was, so our first stop was that bar. And since we were in the Meatpacking District, I suggested we go ahead and eat at Florent - one of my favorite places to eat in NYC. So, while Steve was checking at the bar, we headed over to Florent.
Of course, Florent was packed, and much to my surprise, they had actually started taking reservations. I've always been there when it was "first come, first served". Since we didn't have a reservation, the hostess wasn't exactly sure just how fast she could sit the five of us. I even spied her checking on tables to see if they were going to order dessert, more drinks, etc. After her fact-checking expedition, she told us it would be anywhere from 30-45 minutes. Ah, well... Both Mike and Jay were hungry(!), so we headed back over to Steve's neighborhood to have dinner at Room Service - which is actually a pretty decent, and well-priced Thai restaurant.
-
Sidebar:
Steve's apartment is just six blocks north of the Meatpacking District. A very easy walk, especially since it's the short blocks. Well, Maria, Jay's girlfriend, had only brought her "nice" shoes, so she wasn't up for walking more than a block. We ended up hailing a cab to take us there. And back. I don't think I've ever seen a fare below $5.00 until earlier tonight. ::)
-
Dinner at Room Service was quite good. And lots of fun. And sort of "embarrassing". ;) I'll spare you all the details, but sometimes there are just things that I don't think siblings - especially brothers - need to know about each other. I'm not talking about keeping secrets, I'm just saying that some personal information should stay with the person. Steve just started asking questions and issuing forth innuendo after innuendo. It was just such an interesting mix of givens:
Five people out to dinner.
Four men.
One women.
-Three of the men are brothers.
-One of them is gay.
-Two of them men also happened to go to the Coast Guard academy.
In Chelsea (a.k.a. The Gayborhood).
...And then once you add in some signature cocktails from their bar listing, well...
:)
I had a wonderful time tonight. The food was great. The drinks were great. And the company was wonderful.
*And, yes, there were pictures taken. And once I get them transferred from my camera, I shall post a couple of them.
-
And since I'm tired and sleepy right now, I believe I shall head to bed. -Thankfully, I don't have to be at rehearsal until 1:00 tomorrow/today. However, I do have to get the gym tomorrow morning - especially after tonight's dinner. -Which Steve picked up the tab for (for all five of us!). :)
So...
Goodnight.
-
STILL on page eight? How nauseating.
-
I got a nice little package o' stuff from MBarnum and just watched The Cat Burglar.

No, not the original studio concept album. When I first asked Matthew about the two different concert versions (what you quoted above), that was a brain fart on my part (no comments from the peanut gallery, please ;)). I was thinking about the two different 2001/2002 English language Danish tour cast recordings, both of which I have at work. I qualified my original question in today's Reply #173 at 05:38:31 pm.
Clear as mud? :)

So, the 1994 Concert recording is NOT rare?

Well, not as rare as the Danish tour cast with the extra tracks that was recalled. :-\

Matthew, I haven't forgotten your David Siegel request and I'll be getting you his contact info this weekend.
