Well, you've read the notes, the notes were certainly outre, and now it is time for you to post until the outre plus cows come home.

Welcome thirteen GUESTS.

Will we never get to page two?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DR GINNY
-
TOTD related:
DP Colin has been spending some considerable time researching his family tree.
Not quite a relative but we did get to talk about his cousin's brother-in-law Gil Perkins today.
What an amazing career. We'd never thought to check out imbd before (though we did know that he was successful in his chosen field).

The peril of taking a long winter afternoon's nap is that one tends to stay up later than normal.
And here I am, ready for bed, but not ready enough to avoid logging on, signing in and posting a bit more.
-
And, of course, I'm the only one here.
-
I suppose I could carry on a frenzy and make everyone wonder just what the heck I thought I was doing so early in the morning.
-
Keeping up with Miss Karen, for one thing.
And then, there's Cillaliz who, if I am not mistaken, became the champion frenzier on Saturday.
-
I watched "Journeyman" tonight, and it was one of the best episodes yet!
There will be at least one more episode next week, but possibly all is not lost for the future.
Our local NBC affiliate (out of San Jose) had an interview with Reed Diamond who stars are Jack Vasser, older brother of star Kevin McKidd's Dan Vasser.
Diamond was pretty forthcoming about the future of the show and how the storyline will soon make it clear why Dan is traveling through time...and why. Whether that means the shows have been written/filmed or not, I don't know. But there was no speculative talk about the show's future. Being an NBC affiliate, the show was called one of the network's "hits" for the new season. Spin, spin, spin....and the world goes round.
-
Oh, yes. The reason Reed Diamond was interviewed by the NBC affiliate here is that he spends a great deal of time in the San Francisco area and because a lot of the show is filmed in the city.
That, and he's also been a participant in a couple of Christmas parades locally.

On a personal note about my root canal procedure Monday morning: Last night, around 6:35 p.m., the endodontist who performed the procedure called me here at home to ask how I was doing, was I experiencing any discomfort, etc.? He was quite solicitous of my well being and told me to be sure to let him know if I have any trouble with the tooth over the next couple of days.
I cannot recall any medical professional inquiring after my well being following a procedure. I feel pampered! And I like it! :D
-
I am now "caught up" on yesterday's posts. Thank goodness! I can't say that about Saturday, that's for sure.
-
And with that catch-up, I'm read to assume a reclining position and catch a few zzzzzzz's.

In the mail today, I received a very lovely package from Australia!! Thanks, Tomovoz! :-* It'll hang outside my office for all to see! ;D
-
Well...all at my work who are fortunate enough to walk by my office and see it.
:)

And with that, I'll say good night.
Good night, Ron. 8)

Happiest of birthdays to Sweet Ginny!

Michael Barnum, glad to hear you enjoyed your birthday.
Anthony is jealous that you got to see Huddle. Was it on Turner or do you have a copy on DVD?
Ant is a BIG fan of Navarro and especially recommends The Cat and the Fiddle if you want to see another RN film. His co-star is Jeanette MacDonald. It's a wonderful film.

Four-thirty? How unseemly. A touch of heartburn, which I'm hoping will soon abate so I can go back to sleep.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DR GINNY
-
Good morning, all! I thought it was a shaky band rehearsal last night; the harp has four numbers in all, and why those four numbers weren't played complete or to give her a real chance at ythem is beyond me. Of course, it's my concert priority and notanyone else's, but if the powers that be were aware the harp couldn't make the last rehearsal, you'd think they'd make sure the band numbers ran smoothly lat the next rehearsal.
And there were problems, all glossed over with "we'll fix it tomorrow at the dress." No. Fix it now.
So, the bitch is back and I have a trek to Toyland, the stage door of MARY POPPINS, Carnegie Hall, back home and then a concert tonight, which I'm attending with my dear friend and DR Jose. I've got to start wrapping gifts and get some things shipped out this week as well. I'm not regretting at all my decision to not gpo back to B&N for the holiday.

The eagerly awaited Jupiter-Pluto union at 29 degrees of Sagittarius takes place at 11:26AM PST.
This conjunction is definitely an active force all-day and for the next couple of days as well.
Clearly, any goals and plans on the higher educational and literary fronts can be developed and strengthened - leading to success and fortune in the future.
You should concentrate on finishing old business on a high note during this 29+ hour twilight zone.

We were calling MBarnum the sweetest person on HHW, but isn't Ginny tied for that title?
Happy birthday, dear Ginny!
-
Miss Karen - there's a novel and musical (which we saw in chicago a few years back) called TAKING CARE OF MRS. CARROLL. Perhaps that's what you're thinking of?
-
Spoo, I forgot about the TOD:
I love the computer for the quick and easy access to so much information -- to click on and get so much news instantly -- I'm a big current events type person so that's great.
I love being able to email someone or getting email quickly without having to wait days like you do for snail mail.
I love having access to a site like HHW where you get to play with a bunch of wild, wacky, fun and caring folks from around the world.
I like being able to log-on and order books or CDs from Barnes and Noble within the comfort of my own home -- no drivng around, standing in line, etc.
I hate how addictive the computer can be -- you can spend hours on it before you know it.
I hate hackers, spammers, and other unsavory types who use it for evil (identity thief, stalking folks, harassing folks, bulllying folks, etc.)
I don't like how it isolates people (just like video games and television) -- even though you're connecting with people and meeting people, you're still not out there actually engaging with them face to face.

Well, Har-Rump! I thought I was the sweetest person on HHW --- (manical, mustache-twirling evil laugh) Booo-wahhh-hahh-hahhh!!
Yep, Mikey, Ginny, but then there's also Jane, SawDawg, Edi, oh forget this, I don't have time to list all the sweetest people on HHW, there's too damn many of you!
-
See, one of my points in my post #54. I'm gonna come on here for a second, then I end up in a frenzy. I simply must depart this instant. I mean it this time, Ciao!
-
I'm still working on MISS KAREN OF JUSTICE, a sitcom about a wacky theater person who moonlights as a small-claims attorney and lives, oddly enough, in a rural town called Justice
-
Four-thirty? How unseemly. A touch of heartburn, which I'm hoping will soon abate so I can go back to sleep.
That's the sign of good BBQ!
We have a jernt in Lilburn, Georgia which features a lot of different sauces (to me that says lack of confidence, but...)
Thier especially hot sauce is called the "lilburner"!

Good morning!
Can you believe it got up to 80 yesterday! Set a record for Charlotte. Supposed to be 80 again today, too! Summer in December - a song title, right?

I'm starting a new job today with a new client at a new post place. (That's 3 news!)
Greg had a shoot today at 8. He woke up at 7:30---turns out the housesitter had set our clock to PM insteade of the usual AM, so it didn't go off at 6 as it should have. So I had to help Greg get ready to go, which made me late, and before I left, Elmo the cow cat hurled on two different oriental rugs.
But it didn't end there. I filled up a bottle with water, drove to my job, struggled to find the place and get into the building, only to find that the water bottle, which looked like mine, was actually one that one of our housesitters left, and it was missing its stopper. So the entire contents of my bag, which hadn't been unpacked since I got back, was full of water. My camera, checkbook and date book, among other things, is drenched.
Fortunately my client isn't here. But unfortunately, I have no idea what I'm supposed to be doing!
-
I read in TV GUIDE last night that JOURNEYMAN is showing two episodes next week: its regular Monday night episode and then its final filmed episode on WEdnesday at 10 (when all is revealed about Dan's time traveling).
I guess folks found the pilot hard to follow and didn't come back or they thought this was going to be another QUANTUM LEAP which it wasn't. Sad to see a quality show fail to reach an audience.
-
TOD: I miss the card catalogue files in libraries, searching through the little drawers and discovering a number of treasures as they flipped by.
-
I adore computers for writing. When I was writing using a typewriter, I used tons of white-out and correction strips because I was constantly changing wording, and I often had to retype everything due to so many changes and improvements.
I bought my first computer (Atari 800XL) strictly as a word processor. It did a wonderful job with that (no spell check with the earliest word processors), but I quickly began learning other things that could be done with the computer than just writing. Now, I can't imagine my life without it.
Favorite thing about computers: instant access to a world of information on the internet.
Least favorite thing: con artists who use the internet to try to scam innocent victims. So easy to do because it's such an anonymous medium.
-
All my favorite shows are reruns tonight, but if any of you who like BONES didn't watch it during its first season, tonight's Christmas-episode is a MUST. It's gloriously emotional with great holiday spirit and a murder to solve that leads to a heart-breaking revelation.
-
Today I'll be finishing up with the bonus features on LOST (there are HOURS of them), and then tonight I'll be watching TWO-LANE BLACKTOP, Criterion's latest release. It's a two disc set, too, so lots of bonus features to get through there, too.
-
TOD: I like the internet because I have met new people, I like the convenience of the internet shopping and charity donations, I like communicating by email, I like booking airline tickets and motel reservations online, I like the way you can look something up quickly while you are still interested in knowing about something, etc., I like that I can do a search on a phone number on my caller id to see if it is a spammer (www.whocalled.us)
I don't like that people can spy on you and get personal information (how much your house is worth, etc.) I found myself listed with my address, place of work, my job title, and my age. That's freaky. I don't know where they got that.
-
Thank you, DRs FJL<blush>, Kerry, and Edisaurus.
We are going to dinner tonight at one of my all-time favorite restaurants:
The Grand Finale (http://www.grandfinale.info)
-
One of Ramon Navarro's last appearances is as a crazed Mexican dictator in a 3rd season episode of Wild, Wild West.
And I must repeat, just because it made me LOL when BK said it with such earnest urgency when he was up here a couple of years ago, "'The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance' was a big hit. A big hit!"
-
Re JOURNEYMAN:
Now that Reed Diamond's character had been tipped-off to what his brother is doing and why he's away from home at odd intervals, the character has become much more accessible, and the tension present between the family has a different feel (and much less ugly). That ugliness might also have caused people to drift away from the show during the middle episodes.
-

Drying out the contents of your bag would be my first choice.

See Ramon Navarro in the silent BEN-HUR (nice views of his torso, DR MBarnum). He's also in MATI HARI with Greta Garbo, an intriguing film.

Nicholson Baker wrote a very nice piece (obit) about the demise of card catalogues. Can't remember where I read it...

Mine, too. I don't know what these people think of me coming in here and spreading all my stuff around teh editing room to dry out, but at least I'm tucked into a back room.
I'm working for TLC/Discovery.

Nicholson Baker wrote a very nice piece (obit) about the demise of card catalogues. Can't remember where I read it...
That was in The New Yorker, IIRC. Yes, many are nostalgic for the card catalog, but I gotta tell you, it was a very labor-intensive resource. Professionally speaking, I would not want us to go back, but I do like to set up our internal version of our online catalog to emulate the flipping of catalog cards.
The computer has, of course, impacted my profession dramatically. On the good side, there's the inventory control, tying holdings and circulation records, and on and on. Digitization of reference sources is amazing, when sound and images are done right. The Internet, both for information and communications, is a mixed blessing. The abundance and speed are useful, but our ability to ascertain credibility ("On the Internet, nobody knows you're a dog") has become a challenge. And the chat reference that we've started doing in recent years has raised patrons' expectations that we can respond more quickly than is sometimes humanly possible.
-
Thank you, DR MattH!
-
I'm heading down now to get a jump start on the rest of those LOST bonus features.
WBBL.
-
We're doing a Secret Santa giftshare at Cinderella and I got the best CD-R of a jazz vocalist/bassist (yep, she does both) I'd never heard of, Kristin Korb. I highly recommend her to all. Really unique version of "Loverly" on this CD.
-
DRMusic Guy was once ON a cruise ship back from Australia in the late 60's and Ramon Navarro was aboard (unfrtunately basically sloshed and letching after the cabin boys). It was just before Mr. Novarro's tragic death. But, yes Ramon Navarrro was gorgeous and talented.
Speaking of silent films brings to mind another MusicGuy story. He was living in San Francisco in about 1967 and played organ for a series of silent film showings at the Avenue Theatre. It was very much of a Mickey and Judy "Let's all put a show in the barn" type of thing with everyone doing jjust about everything. They were all there late one night, and a kid stopped by and asked if this was the place where they showed "those quiet movies." I still crack up thinking of silent films as "those quiet movies."
-
I must also temper my comments about the church shooting in Colorado--the first news reports we heard said the guy was homeless and had been refused shelter. It turns out he had been a missionary student there who had been kicked out and held a grudge. That said, he had evidently been sending hate mail to them for years and no one did anything. . .
-
DRMusic Guy was once a cruise ship
That MusicGuy leads such a diverse life. No wonder he's E&T!

Re: The biscuit---ate there yesterday! It has always been one of our favorites (it was originally owned by one of the Indigo Girls) and has been so successful that a company called Raving Brands purchased the right to franchise it. So you may end up having one near you some day!
The food is not quite as good as the original, but still a step above your usual chain restaurant!

It's cold and sunyy here in Phx. I actually have my windows open to get some fresh air, we've had too much rain and cold lately for me to have them open, and I hate how stale the air gets. So, I' ll wear an extra sweater for awhile, but it's worth it.

As I've mentioned, DS Rob's girlfriend is a ballet major at UC's College Conservatory of Music. She will be with us next week and until Christmas morning, when she and Rob will go to her parents' in Michigan. Stockings are a big deal in our household and, after my mother, my sister, my niece, my best friend, and I all failed to find a ballet-themed one, I decided to create one. It's a plain stocking from the Dollar Store with iron-ons from JoAnn Fabric. Rob was quite pleased when he saw it and we're looking forward to Mary Linda's reaction when she sees it hanging from the mantle:

The menu this year, per Debra, will be "Spaghetti a la Ron". In other words, she wants me to make spaghetti sauce and bring it to her house. I've done this once before. The menu varies, year to year and my turn has come again.
-
So....I'm imagining that just as our spaghetti dinner is ending, BK will be revving up his annual December 24th spaghetti spectacular. Unless, of course, he decides to do something different this year.
-
I wish the east coast heat wave would let up.
I want winter, I do.
I'd LOVE to actually see, feel, walk around in some snow.

Thank you, DR Matthew!

All right. It's time for me to move on to other things. See youse all laters....
Ciao-ders....

DR Ron and DR MattH - I'm headed to Lexington, North Carolina for a wedding at the end of December. What sort of weather should I expect (based on previous December's)
-
JMK, I typed and deleted three responses to your post yesterday. I decided to let it pass. You are entitled to your opinion.
-
In honor of my getting older yesterday my mom managed to find a couple of (embarrassing) reminders of my youth.......
Here I am in all my glory...searching for gosh knows what...of course this is back when I had firmer butt cheeks, as you can see!
Although I do seem to have the same haircut.
-
Well, I am off to the post office to mail the last two boxes.
-
And then there is this snapshot....how could my family have not known!

How adorable! Even at a young age you had such nice taste in shoes!

We had those same curtains one of our houses! LOL!

The curtains were there from the woman who built the house in the 50's, and we never got around to re-doing that front bedroom before selling the house, so that fabric was still there.
-
Hello, everyone.
Finally caught up on the posts.
-
DR Ron,
You'll be pleased to know I closed the window. ;)
-
Happiest of Birthdays to DR GINNY!!!
May you have a most lovely day!
-
Ron,
I had a allergist some years ago who phoned once just to see how I was doing. I was indeed surprised--and impressed. Follow-ups make a lot of sense, but, given how many docs take business classes these days, I'm afraid I'm suspicious of some of their motives. But it's still a good thing.
-
TOD:
I won't repeat what others have offered, although I agree. I will state, however, that I have little patience with bad software--poorly designed, buggy code--which, unfortunately, is very common.
-
I shall shortly be on my way to do some errands.
-
Happy Birthday DR Ginny.....
I hope you have a wonderful day filled with surprises, freinds and family!
-
Happy Birthday DR Ginny!
Glad your dental procedure went well DR RonP!
Glad your doctor's appointment went well DR Danise!
-
Thank you, DRs Jeanne, DakotaCelt, and Jennifer!
-
Allow me to join in the best wishes to DR Ginny. Many happy returns of the day!
TOD:
Best of the 'net: communities of fellow whackjobs with common interests, eBay, several fascinating blogs.
Worst of the 'net: the great sucking sound of wasted hours (ADD + high-speed internet connection = REALLY poor work productivity), eternally accessible embarassing information (no, I won't point it out for you...), ignoramuses filling up discussion groups with poorly-spelled inanities AT THE TOP OF THEIR VOICES.
Oh, and the fact that things like this (http://www2.cruzio.com/~keeper/m_press.htm) happened, and I never got invited...
-
I was wondering if anyone on HHW would like a copy of the graphics I did? I can email them later
-
Packages mailed. I had to keep dodging the news camera that was in the post office filming.
-
Mine, too. I don't know what these people think of me coming in here and spreading all my stuff around teh editing room to dry out, but at least I'm tucked into a back room.
I'm working for TLC/Discovery.
Congrats and good luck Edi!!!
-
Beautiful stocking Ginny!
-
I wish the east coast heat wave would let up.
I want winter, I do.
I'd LOVE to actually see, feel, walk around in some snow.
Ron,
The east coast could send it here....
ND is desperated to rid itself of cold air and we would love to share!
-
Laura,
Perhaps they discovered you were on the most happenin' site on the net!

MissKaren, I echo many of the same sentiments you express..
I do have one beef about the internet, it allows the rude and nasties to be more publicly displayed and sadly it is spilling over into face to face communication.
I do enjoy keeping in touch with distant relatives and sharing pictures. Doing genealogy research in my pajamas.
I also enjoying places like this, it is a true gem of lovelies!
-
TOTD related:
DP Colin has been spending some considerable time researching his family tree.
Not quite a relative but we did get to talk about his cousin's brother-in-law Gil Perkins today.
What an amazing career. We'd never thought to check out imbd before (though we did know that he was successful in his chosen field).
I once saw an Angus steer who was very successful in his chosen field.

Wow! Any palce that serves FILET & OYSTERS, as a dinner combo, is my kind of place. Ummm, BACON, LOBSTER, & TOMATO DEVILED EGGS for an appetizer. Yum!!
Well, when you come to Cincinnati to visit we'll have an HHW gathering there. Maybe DRs JRand57 and Charles Pogue would drive in, too!
-
Back from the first round of errands.
-
TV Guide resident critic Matt Roush, in discussing the BBC series LIFE ON MARS, said. "Think of it as JOURNEYMAN done well."
OUCH!
-
I was wondering if anyone on HHW would like a copy of the graphics I did? I can email them later
I already have a copy! Thank you, Dakota!
-
"Life on Mars" Great show. I'm looking forward to the next series.

Dear Reader Laura Finally Mails Christmas Packages!

A slow news day??
-
Almost any Christmas shopper or card-sender is ahead of me this year! I keep thinking it's early November. Other things on my mind.
-
Ok, this is weird. It seems that I can access the site by going directly to the Discussion Board and not through the notes. We'll see when I go to post this if I'm blocked by the SONIC WALL!!
Does anyone still go through the notes (or read them)? :)
-
Kerry - Yes, that's the novel. We saw the musical at the Bailiwick Theater in Chicago about ten years ago.
-
I have not even started..... I have had other matters...
-
I am home from work today on
sick leave, rather leave without pay. I had a very strange experience yesterday. I went over to my boss's office (about 30 feet away from my cubicle), he wasn't there, so I headed back to my cubicle. I was about half way back when suddenly my whole body felt as if I was swimming in quicksand. My limbs got very very heavy. I could barely move. I sat myself down on the desk where we sort our mail, and stayed there for about 30 seconds. By then, all the symptoms were gone.
I got back to my desk and told my sister, who kept an eye on me for the rest of the day. I felt fine, but tired. When I got home from work, I tried to get thru yesterday's post, but only got to about, Page Four. I did some things around the house, and then was in bed by 6:45.
When I got up at 4:00 this morning, I was so shakey that I could harly drink a glass of water or dial the phone. Since I normally suffer from hand tremors, that isn't terribly unusual. I finally got the phone dialed and told work I wouldn't be in, took my morning pills, and went back to bed. I didn't get up again till 10:30. I feel okay now, but the whole experience was weird.
-
Perhaps you had a case of Angus Steer Envy?
-
At least we read each other's posts DR TCB.
-
As I've mentioned, DS Rob's girlfriend is a ballet major at UC's College Conservatory of Music.
I think that is adorable.
-
Take care TCB!!
-
TCB...
With your avvie, I keep looking for a surfboard and water....
;)
-
TCB, I hope you feel better soon!
-
DR Dakota, what if you posted your graphics here so everyone could see them?
-
Tom, have you ever been surfing?
an acquaintance sent me a DVD a while back of the surfing finals
-
Happy Birthday Ginny!!!!!!!!!

As far as I'm concerned Surf is a laundry detergent!
The closest I get is holding on to the ironing board.
-
(((((TCB)))))
Should you see your doctor?
-
I think that is adorable.
AND very sweet and thoughtful. She will find the stocking -- and DR Ginny -- most endearing...
-
TCB,
Yes, please DO take care! Maybe it's time for a check-up??
-
TOMOVOZ,
I read ALL the Notes. If I get behind in the posts, I may skim some, but so far I've always caught up. It does take a lot of time, but YOUR POSTS ARE READ!
-
Does anyone still go through the notes (or read them)? :)
There are notes on this site?! Well, who knew?! I thought the point of this here site was to post stuff, not read stuff... ;)
-
What happened to Page Six. I thought I did it when I modified my dinner post, so I deleted it, but that ain't the problem, so here is that same post again.
Thank you, DRs FJL<blush>, Kerry, and Edisaurus.
We are going to dinner tonight at one of my all-time favorite restaurants:
The Grand Finale (http://www.grandfinale.info)
Wow! Any place that serves FILET & OYSTERS, as a dinner combo, is my kind of place.
Ummm, BACON, LOBSTER, & TOMATO DEVILED EGGS for an appetizer. Yum!!
-
No, Miss karen, the point is to be snarky. No?
-
Methinks TOMOVOZ was joking.
-
Thanks, DR Adrianna Patti! In 3 years, I want you to plan my party!
-
TCB,
Yes, please DO take care! Maybe it's time for a check-up??
My physical is due in January.
-
No, Miss karen, the point is to be snarky. No?
Yes! Right, DR RonnieP? No? Yes? No?
-
I just put this in IMAX!
Sorry!
Can you delete the post, and then re-size the picture?
-
TOMOVOZ,
I read ALL the Notes. If I get behind in the posts, I may skim some, but so far I've always caught up. It does take a lot of time, but YOUR POSTS ARE READ!
LOL
I think that Clive Owen film you mentioned the other day was released as "Croupier" in the UK and here. I've not seen it.
I've received an early Christmas present of the UK series "Spaced" - Supposed to be wonderful (if you enjoyed Shaun Of the Dead and Hot Fuzz).
I missed it if it was indeed ever shown here.
-
My physical is due in January.
Maybe you should move it up a little?
-
DAKOTA!
Please delete the post on Page Six!!!
-
And Page Seven.
They need to be resized.
-
Off to The Grand Finale...bye for now!
-
Maybe you should move it up a little?
It's all beginning to sound very Olivia Newton John.
-
here is the first one

here is the first one
Much easier to see, and a very lovely graphic.
-
next one
-
TCB - Feel better soon, I hope.
-
this is the last one...
-
DR TCB, please do not hesitate to go to the doctor or hospital if that happens again...we don't want anything unseemly happening to our Tommy B!
-
DR Ron and DR MattH - I'm headed to Lexington, North Carolina for a wedding at the end of December. What sort of weather should I expect (based on previous December's)
Absolutely impossible to predict this far ahead. It's 80 here today. They're predicting a high of 47 on Sunday. It can literally change overnight.
Typically the highs would be in the mid 40s to lower 50s and lows in the 20s.
-
Matt Roush isn't much a fan of MOONLIGHT either, DR TCB, so I'm not sure his criticism is worth my time.
-
I began my afternoon of viewing by completing the bonus features on the LOST set. All anamorphic featurettes which I really appreciated. And they're enjoyable, too, especially for fans of the show.
-
Wish fulfilled:
In the mail today was a review copy of the Blu-ray version of LOST. Of course, the set streets today, so no way to get it watched on time, but it's here, and I'll get to it later in the week.
-
Does anyone still go through the notes (or read them)? :)
I happen to thrive on the notes and live vicariously through their contents.
-
Next, I put in the new Criterion release of TWO-LANE BLACKTOP. Interesting "groovy" film made right after the success of EASY RIDER. It bombed then, but it's more interesting now. Amazing that the two leading actors in one car are played by musicians James Taylor and Dennis Wilson. Warren Oates, of course, plays the rival racer in his GTO.
-
I just stopped in to wish DR Ginny a
VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
HOPE YOU ARE HAVING A SPECIAL DAY!
-
I began the film again and began listening to the two audio commentaries. The director and another filmmaker are in one, and the screenwriter with the story writer do the other. The second one so far is much more entertaining than the director commentary. In fact, if he wasn't being posed questions, he wouldn't even be talking.
-
I finished my afternoon skimming through today's AS THE WORLD TURNS. No gay characters, and they weren't in the previews either.
-
I am due quite a few things in the mail, but none have arrived - either that, or they arrive but the mail place gets so far behind that they don't get into my box (either the package or the notice of the package) for a day or two after they arrive. I've tried to tell them that this is unacceptable.
-
Page eight - that's what I'M talkin' about.
-
Will we never get to page nine?
-
I'm starting to get hungry.
-
I'm starting to get hungry.
Eat some of your "feesh" sticks.
-
I've been reading a paperback book by an interesting type named Mickey Knox, who started out as an actor and then became graylisted and then became an expatriate, living in Rome and working on many big films as dialogue director and even writer. This book is so riddled with spelling errors, and silly mistakes it's clear no one proofed one word of it. And it's not print on demand or self-published, although it is a smaller publisher, which just goes to show you that having a bigger publisher means nothing these days. My guess is this book sold less than Benjamin Kritzer.
-
Will we never get to page nine?
I'm going to go out on a limb and take a wild guess and say yes...
-
LOL
I think that Clive Owen film you mentioned the other day was released as "Croupier" in the UK and here. I've not seen it.
It was released here as "Croupier". too.
-
And now that I've checked back - DR Jeanne was mentioning the TV show "Chancer". (Just one of my Senior's moments)
-
So the head of the department I'm working for at TLC just came in and asked if I would like to be a "preditor". I didn't like the sound of that!
She explained that it's a producer/editor/writer---and you make mo' money. I'll have to check out their programming and then maybe I'll give iy a try. She said I could work wherever I want, even at home. Since I don't care for the place I'm working today (it's near my house but a cheap system to work on) that sounds pretty good, and I would still be freelancing and could jump to the CLOSER when it's time.
-
Oh, and the keyboard here is terrible!
-
The people and amenities are very nice, but I don't like the room and it's very hot and stuffy, which makes me sleepy.
-
Here is the piece of art that will soon be floating over downtown Phoenix. The time is nigh.
-
I'll be back in a bit. I must finish up some writing now.
-
Morning chores behind me...laundry picked up, cards mailed, car gassed up, med refills picked up, trash taken out and lunch ingested.
What a day!
-
I feel like another nap, I do.
-
I may also look like a nap.
-
I don't care. I'm "nodding" even as I sit here trying to type.
-
And that's no mean fea............zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzz!
...........feat!
-
UPS has several fun items "out for delivery" to me today at my work place. I shall swing by this evening to learn the truth of it.
If I do have anything, it will be the "Harry Potter" 5-HD DVD box, the "Bourne Ultimatum" HD DVD, and the three new Disney tins. Possibly, "Lost" Season 3 will be there, too, but I won't be holding my breath.
-
Matthew: During your trip to Lexington, you could find yourself in shirt-sleeve weather one day and down-parka weather the next.
Be prepared for both extremes, plus "mild" temperatures
-
Okay, that's it.
-
I'm totally ready to nap.
-
When I say my "ciao-ders for now-ders", I will really log off. I won't be like Miss Karen and say goodbye three more times before actually leaving.
No. When I go I will be gone.
Snarky enough for ya, Missy Karen?
Ciao-ders for now-ders!
:D
-
If it's not too late...
A VERY, VERY, VERY, VERY (that's FOUR verys) HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO DR GINNY!! ;D

The late, great, Colleen Dewhurst told me that Warren Oates was one of the most charismatic and talented actors she had ever worked with on film. She had made the first TV-movie with him entitled, AND BABY MAKES SIX, and was at that time getting ready to make the sequel with Mr. Oates.
Consider all of actors she worked with (and married), I was surprised by the comment.

LOL
I think that Clive Owen film you mentioned the other day was released as "Croupier" in the UK and here. I've not seen it.
CROUPIER is a different film. It's a feature film; CHANCER is a mini-series.
-
DR George - did you finally get to see Whistle Down the Wind and if so, what did you think?
-
I'm back from rehearsal and wondering where our DR Jose is. He called my home and left a message at 4:30, and I cannot understand a word of it. I don't know why he didn't call my cell, but I've called him three times since I left Carnegie Hall at 4:55 to leave messages. i doubt we're having dinner at this point so I need to worry about feeding myself now.
The concert maty be good; I think it has lots of potential and everything seems fine but my four pieces. We'll see.
I love love love Joanna Gleason!

Of course it is Wednesday and has been for nearly ten hours.
I wonder if is the same as greylisted!

Many publishers dispensed with proofreaders long ago. Like so many businesses, they simply don't want to spend the money. I'm not sure if there are any "good" publishers left.

At the time, there was some talk about a possible Oscar nomination for him for his work in this film. (Playing opposite two guys who weren't primarily actors, he easily steals the film from them, and his character is much more colorful than theirs as well.) I guess since the film didn't do well at the box-office, the Academy members found five other actors to nominate.

Art in the sky? Oh, that's interesting. Does it help filter the air while it's up there?
-
I'm off now to investigate the other bonus features in this set.
WBBL.
-
TRAVEL VIBES FOR RON, EVEN IF HE'S OFF, OFF, OFF!
-
No. It just levitates, I guess.
-
I've heard from our DR Jose, and we'll meet at Carnegie around 7:30. Now, what to do about dinner?
-
I was wondering if anyone on HHW would like a copy of the graphics I did? I can email them later
I would. :) Thanks!

Back from more errands and picking up this year's Christmas cards. Fourteen days before Christmas this city is already completely out of control and unless I have to, I'm not leaving the home environment too much.
The post office had a line out the door and onto the street (I needed to ship two packages and came at the time the employees have always told me is the best for avoiding lines - this certainly worked last Christmas and all of this year). So, I drove two miles to my little mini-post office in a pharmacy and their line was longer! I'll ship these packages tomorrow morning and hope for the best.
-
Good Afternoon! Good Evening!
I'm here. I'm here.
And, yes, I finally did return DR elmore's calls. And, I'm sorry I didn't return them in enough time for us to have dinner before the concert tonight. However, I'm sure we'll have plenty of time to chat this evening (before the show, intermission, after the show, etc.). So... Yes, your ears will be burning tonight. ;)
-
The traffic is miserable, too - not that it's so crowded, but because people are driving even more like idiots than usual. Going ten miles an hour, talking on their cell phone, blah, blah, blah. Then I went to Gelson's, and they had my new fave, their cheesy potatoes. However, there was a really hefty woman and her cart blocking the entire contents of the hot food section. AFter five minutes of waiting for her vain attempts to figure out which sort of container plate she wanted to use, I said, "Can I please get in there?" She screamed back, "Get in there!!!" and whipped her cart out of the way. I just gave her one of my patented bk looks that said, "You are a cretin and a wazoo and you will pay for this sort of behavior as you already are paying you insufferable ort."
-
I'm also baking a piece of halibut.
-
Will we never get to page ten?
-
In honor of my getting older yesterday my mom managed to find a couple of (embarrassing) reminders of my youth.......
Here I am in all my glory...searching for gosh knows what...of course this is back when I had firmer butt cheeks, as you can see!
Actually, Michael, we'd actually need to see the current state of your butt cheeks to accurately compare. ;)
-
Off to a meeting. I believe they will be serving take-out food from Artie's Deli at the meeting, which is really something to look forward to.
-
For lunch today, Michael and I headed over to Pam Real Thai (Encore). This was the place that bk dined at while he was in town for The Brain, and I seem to recall he had less than an ideal dining experience. Well, I usually eat at the original location, but since we were in the 'hood, we dined at the "encore".
When we walked in, no one was there. In fact, we thought they were closed, but they weren't. I guess we had missed whatever lunch rush they had had. In any case, I guess being the only ones in the place worked to our advantage since we both ended up with some rather tasty dishes. Michael had the Thai-Roasted Chicken, and I had a Southern Thai Curry with Eggplant and Shrimp. And I have to say it was one of the rare times where I agreed with the heat level listed in the menu - it was a "three pepper" dish. The portion was also very generous - I don't think I even got through half of it before I was all full up.

DR MBarnum - Soooooo cute!!!!!!!!

Happy Birthday Ginny!!!!!!!

Would love to stay and chat, but I have a lot of work to do, so I came back to the office tonight...and since the Temptations are performing at the Orpheum next door tonight, I just happened to stop at the box office and learned that 3rd row center had just been released. Hello, how do you say no to 3rd row center. So, I have until 8:00 to get some work done...then off to see the Temptations. Cool beans.
Glad it's an aisle seat...I'm wearing my work boots and they take up a lot of room.

Evening all. I'm back from a day of gift bags. Things are moving along on schedule and it looks like we will be finished tomorrow afternoon, two days ahead of schedule. I have my office holiday party tomorrow evening and then I will have two extra days of "vacation". We have a friend playing one of the Santas at Macys this year so we will go visit him and perhaps have our picture taken (depends on how much it costs). We also plan a trip to the Lincoln Center Library to return some vocal scores. We will have dinner with a good friend early on Friday evening (I also have to do the damned laundry). Saturday is an open book (although Ant has a dance class at 1:45). Sunday we have two, count 'em, two parties. One is a late Hanukkah brunch which should be lots of fun and then it's off to Brooklyn for a gay (in many ways) holiday tree trimming party. Monday we have our Volunteer Thank You party and Tuesday I'm supposed to have tickets for the end of year Gypsy competition (delayed by the strike). I'll find out tomorrow if I actually have the tickets. Whew, sounds busy to me. Who said anything about a vacation.
Kerry, btw, it's great to have you back and posting!!!

DITTO!! I agree with all your points! ;)
Oh, and several more:
(Can't believe I forgot this one): The number one reason I love the computer is for word processing -- to type, to change, to delete, to edit, to save, to file, etc., etc. in the blink of an eye. I was always a horrible typist, so it's like I've died and gone to heaven.
Another reason to love a computer: Spell Check!
Another reason computers can drive you mad is when they act like they have a mind of their own and just start doing something out of the blue -- freezing up, or acting strange -- something that can't be explained (not even by a computer whiz).
A computer requires left brain capabilities, so a total right brainer like me finds it frustrating to remember and work with codes and keys, etc. (as you know, I don't know how to make letters dance, or move photos from one location to another -- your strange, techie world frightens and confuses me...)
-
I do love computers and the Internet for the ease it has given me in many aspects of my life. My work has been made easier by better computers and especially by the Internet.
I do not like the idea that now that we have all this technology it must take over our lives. We must be connected 24/7, answering cell phones or texting if we're bored (if you didn't want to come to the theatre, then just say no, don't sit in the damn seat with your coat over your cell phone texting, do you think the audience members around you are blind???). People ask how do I survive without a cell phone. The same way I survived before they became "necessary" for more than half the population. I don't begrude people their cell phones but I don't need one.
Need, Want, two different words and two different ideas. I'm very lucky that my life and my job is such that I don't need to be connected every minute of every day. I don't need to take a cell phone with me on a "vacation" and spend half of said vacation working. It's not a vacation if that's what you're doing. The idea drilled into us that we are not good employees if we are not married to our jobs is fallacious!!! I almost had a nervous breakdown 12 years ago because of that idea and I praise whatever you believe your higher power to be every day that I made the changes and decisions I made then to give me the happy and lovely life I have now, with a computer, yes, but using it when I want for what I want.
OK, rant over. You are now returned to your respective channels ;D

When I say my "ciao-ders for now-ders", I will really log off. I won't be like Miss Karen and say goodbye three more times before actually leaving.
No. When I go I will be gone.
Snarky enough for ya, Missy Karen?
:D
Nope. It doesn't even rank among your Top Ten Snarky Posts. And on the Snark-O-Meter, it barely registered a 1 out of 10 (the little red needle barely moved, a tiny jump and that was it...)...

DR Mikey ~ Regarding those two cute photos:
1. Do you still have the wagon/box with the star wheels?
2. Do you still have the high heels?
-
Art in the sky? Oh, that's interesting. Does it help filter the air while it's up there?
My first thought was how much will the artist get for that...
... and then who gets to pay for it?
-
Actually, Michael, we'd actually need to see the current state of your butt cheeks to accurately compare. ;)
DITTO! ;)

DR SaucyOne ~ How's the vacation?

I am home from work today on sick leave, rather leave without pay.

My love/hate relationship with the Internet continues unabated. There are aspects of the Internet that I loathe will all of my heart - it's very much the center of my short story Your Worst Nightmare. You suddenly find yourself having conversations and arguments with trolls and idiots you would never even say hello to were it not for them being anonymous on some chat board or group. Being anonymous suddenly give people all sorts of courage they would never have and gives them the ability to put specious untruths out in the world with no one being able to fight back. You can basically say anything about anyone and there's nothing to be done about it. That's the lowest part of the Internet and it's shameful that such things can occur in this day and age.
The good, of course, is the ability to find information quickly, although the flip side of that is that there is so much incorrect information on the Internet that now passes for fact, that it's nauseating. All one need do is look at the imdb, which is riddled with that sort of factual error. Still, it's nice to be able to look up something and get the hopefully correct answer quickly. As to purchasing on the Internet - that's a love/hate thing, too, because that's what's basically killed mom and pop bookstores and CD stores, and the world needs those.
I have no problem with computers. I love Word, and it's made writing these books so effortless - the ability to cut and paste and fix without having to completely retype everything is the single greatest thing that a computer has done for authors.

Edi, that sounds great! :D Congrats!
-
The thing I dislike about the Internet is that it has changed people's expectations for response time. Often I'll get an email at work from an anxious customer. It may take research, but if I haven't responded within 20 minute, they're often then calling me to find out why I haven't answered yet.
-
DR George - did you finally get to see Whistle Down the Wind and if so, what did you think?
I did see it! HOWEVER, I got there 10 minutes late! :'( But, since my seat was on the outside right aisle (third row from the front!), I was able to be seated as soon as I got there, and I didn't have to wait until an "appropriate break." That was nice.
Anyway Matthew, back on November 5th, you wrote:
Last night, the DP and I traveled to Sacramento and saw the National Tour of Whistle Down the Wind. An ALW show that I've never seen and one Cast Recording that I was never too excited about. The show was really good. However, the direction was lacking. It was rather slow. The cast was great and the kids were fantastic. I didn't have high expectations going in to the show and I didn't tell the DP the plot for fear he may not be interested. In the end, I was quite surprised about what a cute little show this actually is and it even has a message. The DP found the conductor distracting as he has bopping around like a metronome, actually, he was the metronome as he was playing while conducting. I had seen this guy conduct before, I believe it was the National Tour of Hairspray and he is quite animated. The band was great, however. I think I'd want to see the show again, and I hope it becomes available to do someday as it definitely has possibilities and charm.
and then after I saw the show on November 17th, I wrote this:
I agree with most of what he said (especially about the conductor and the direction), except that overall, I don't think I liked the show as much as Matthew. :-\ And I'm sure that it didn't help that I got there 10 minutes after it started...dammit. :P My bad. Anyway, I enjoyed being there and watching it (and most of the men were certainly nice to look at up close...me, being in the third row! ;)), but overall, it just didn't do anything for me. I liked the "Songs from Whistle Down the Wind (http://www.amazon.com/Whistle-Down-Songs-Various-Artists/dp/B0000241XU/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1195360889&sr=1-2)" CD more than the original London cast (http://www.amazon.com/Whistle-Down-Wind-Original-London/dp/B00000JJWL/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1195360889&sr=1-1), which they were selling in the lobby. This new version also seems to have a lot more spoken dialogue than the CD. The set was great and the singers were very good, but there just seemed (to me) to be too many "internal monologues" where people just stood there and sang...and just stood there. I think that if they release a new recording of this version, I'll enjoy that more. Just my 2¢.
-
My first thought was how much will the artist get for that...
... and then who gets to pay for it?
$2.5 million and the taxpayers of Phoenix.

DR EDISAURUS is a PREDITOR!!!!

Such revealing photos of DR MBARNUM....shocking!
-
DR TCB.....I think you should consult a physician. Health is precious, something caused the symptoms - they may be gone, but the cause is still there.
Nip it in the bud.
-
DR TOMovOZ - thanks for the lovely annual package that arrived yesterday. It will come in mighty handy!
I enjoyed Mr Owen in CROUPIER.....I like most of his movies....but I think CLOSER is very close to being my favorite.
Speaking of JOURNEYMAN - whatever happened to that FOX series about the policeman who was 400 years old.....I kept seeing the promos during the summer....did I miss it? Is that JOURNEYMAN? I am very confused. Is the other show already canceled?
Some TV GUIDE guy put MAD MEN in his top ten of the year. I wonder if MR BK saw an episode of it yet?

Last week, I was on late shifts all week.
This week, I've got early shifts. :-\
Early comes early tomorrow morning. Time to sign off.

Hehehehe......I loved playing Hysterium! ;D

Now I am going to watch some more DVD's sent by DRADAM....er.... I mean DR MBARNUM.
-
Why, we could be reported for having a photograph of a naked bare-assed child on the Internet, don't you know.
-
Will we never get to page eleven?
-
DR Dakota, what if you posted your graphics here so everyone could see them?
Please do :)
-
Cilla, Martha 2 sounds like the person you have been waiting for :)
Ginny, sweet stocking.
Mikey, too cute for words.
-
Thanks, DR Adrianna Patti! In 3 years, I want you to plan my party!
Mine's next year ;)
-
Thanks for the birthday wishes, DRs Jane, George, and Cillaliz. Jane, thank you, too, for the emails.
DR Elmore sent a wonderful eCard, complete with marching band and fireworks.
We had a delightful visit to The Grand Finale. For dinner I had the Herbed Filet Mignon Brochette and for dessert about the top 1/3 of a slice of Chocolate Cordial Pie. The rest is in the refrigerator for tomorrow (and probably the next day).
-
DR Laura, will the flying “art” be permanent?
-
Hehehehe......I loved playing Hysterium! ;D
I loved playing Hero! :D

;D
-
Beautiful piece of pie, Ginny. Looks yummy!
Yes, Jane. Permanently floating art.
-
$2.5 million and the taxpayers of Phoenix.
:o :o :o :o I thought it was funny until I read the price tag.
-
Ginny the pie looks yummy.

My UPS haul was better than I'd hoped: Frasier, Season 10; Lost, Season 3; all three Disney tins; The Bourne Ultimatum; and the Harry Potter box in HD DVD.
I am watching "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" right now (okay, it's on pause, but only til I'm done here). It looks amazing. Astounding. Unbelievably sharp and deep. Wonderful
(I'm not all that chuffed about the packaging which seems not to have "worked" as well as the original designers hoped. It seems a bit slapdash...all they could stuff in there and then "fix into place" with a molded plastic form...once the form is removed, everything comes spilling out. Oh, well.)
So I have some "merry" to see me through the night and tomorrow pre-flight.
-
Other desserts ordered were:
DH Richard - The Grand Trifle
DS Rob - Bananas Foster
Gram (my mother) - Eggnog Cheesecake - she took enough home to last her the rest of the week
-
TCB-I hope that never happens to you again! Are you sure you weren’t dehydrated or your sugar levels out of whack? I’m trying to think of simple & easy to fix scenarios.
-
I saw my boss, who spent the weekend in Beverly Hills at an annual holiday weekend party a friend of hers hostesses. My boss has gone down every year at this time since I started working here in 1994.
She said things were fine. She made special note of the drive down Rodeo Drive where they put out Swarovski chandeliers as decor down the street for the season.
Overheard at one of the dinners: "If that bastard thinks I'm paying a penny more than $25 million for that property...he's got another think coming"!" She always marvels at how different her friend's world is from her own.
-
I guess we all get a taste of that here. We all live decidedly different -- differently motivated and differently inspired...lives, and yet we come together anyway.
-
That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.
-
No. Don't speak! I won't change my mind.
Not a bit of it.
-
What we need is a picture of some floating pie in the sky. That's what we need.
-
I'm going to grill a N.Y. Strip here in a few minutes. And then get back to my moving picture presentation.
-
Ciao-ders (for now-ders).
-
Edi, I hope things work out for the best, job wise. Whatever you decide, it is nice to be wanted.
-
I'm off to my sister's. I bought "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" (widescreen, regular DVD) at Costco today and we'll watch a bit of it on my sister's widescreen TV. I almost bought the HD-DVD because it's double-sided and has the regular DVD on the backside, but the bonus material is only on the HD-DVD side. But it wasn't much more expensive, so maybe I'll take back what I got and get the HD-DVD. I'll decide when I get in my car. ;)
Laters, gators!
-
The thing I dislike about the Internet is that it has changed people's expectations for response time. Often I'll get an email at work from an anxious customer. It may take research, but if I haven't responded within 20 minute, they're often then calling me to find out why I haven't answered yet.
Sing, maybe you could answer them more quickly if you didn't include a cute little graphic with every email. ;)

Low blood sugar occurred to me, too.

Trying to figure out what to watch this evening.

Low blood sugar occurred to me, too.
I have had similar reactions to both low sugar and lack of water.

'night

I loved playing Hero! :D
I loved playing Senex!! ;D
-
I know that it isn't Wednesday, but what is graylisted?
I'm sure there's an answer out there as good as the DDD discount code from the other night..
-
Happy you got all those treasure before you go away for the holidays, DR Ron. Why don't you take one of those DVD sets home to SC with you? Surely you'd have a spare moment to watch something during the time you're there.
-
I spent most of the evning watching all of the bonus features on the TWO-LANE BLACKTOP DVD. The entire second disc is all special features. There are a series of interviews all filmed/directed by the director of TWO-LANE BLACKTOP, Monte Hellman. He has a nice conversation with James Taylor (who starred in the film, his only movie role). A too lengthy interview with Kris Kristofferson (whose "Me and Bobby McGee" is kind of the film's anthem). There's also a section that features the screen tests for James Taylor and Laurie Bird (who played the underaged wayward girl in the movie). Bird is fearless in looking at the camera and answering questions. Taylor is shyness personified, barely able to lift his eyes up to the camera and then darting them away quickly.
-
I have had similar reactions to both low sugar and lack of water.
Electrolytes could be out of whack!
-
Tomorrow I'll be watching HOT ROD from Paramount. It's been out a couple of weeks, but I only received the review copy yesterday.
-
Beautiful piece of pie, Ginny. Looks yummy!
Yes, Jane. Permanently floating art.
Permanent in the sense that the materail used for the netting willl only last for about 10 years. I guess 10 years is as permanent as anything is these days!
-
I did begin watching the Great Performances bio on PBS on Rudolph Nuryev, but I set the DVR to begin recording it once BOSTON LEGAL came on.
-
Spoo! The only thing I forgot to do, and I'm I forgot it, was to introduce SDR Jose to Joanna Gleason. We did have an elevator ride with Kelli O'Hara who was absolutely gorgeous with a tiny, tiny waist and absolutely glorious gown. The concert went well, I thought, and moved bvery quickly. I caught our DR Jose weepy at one point after the "Silent Night," but the number - which they've done for the past ten years or so - used to make me weepy, too. Now I just marvel at the beauty of it.
I'll let DR Jose say more. I'm glad it went so beautifully, and there were several absolutely wonderful moments.
-
DR EDISAURUS is a PREDITOR!!!!
You talkin' to me? I'm the only one standin' here!
-
Didn't find very much of interest in tonight's BOSTON LEGAL. We know the public school system is in trouble, and we know the National Guard is occupied in places other than stateside. The Lorraine storyline has bugged me for weeks, and it doesn't seem to be letting up. So, it was a miss for me this week.
-
I guess we all get a taste of that here. We all live decidedly different -- differently motivated and differently inspired...lives, and yet we come together anyway.
Well, we do get a taste of fancy chandeliers whenever DR Laura goes to Vegas!
-
DR KERRY - I don't remember hearing the Ramon Navarro story before.
How is the foot?
I'm glad my stories are new to someone!
The foot's getting better, I can get around most of the time with just the lace-up ankle support. But i still wear the big boot when i drive or go out in public. I've worked too hard to chance a re-injury. I was telling someone earlier that if I'd had a job, i could go back to it this way with limited walking. However, appplying for a job with this soft cast on and limited abilities are not real great selling points! It's all good though, and I know i'm lucky!
-
We had to go up north so we got to have dinner at my favorite Vietnamese restaurant which grills meat in grape leaves. I always get grape lead salmon...sooooo goooood!
-
I have some writing to do, so I'd better get to it. Then, it's downstairs to bed.
Good night!
-
Good Evening!
Yes, as DR elmore stated, I did get weepy during the Gay Men's Chorus concert earlier this evening. And, yes, I did get to meet Ms. Kelli O'Hara in her beautiful gown and small waist. And, yes, I did not get introduced to Ms. Joanna Gleason, but, no worries - we've actually met before, so... ;)
I also got to shake hands with the chorus' new music director, Dr. Charles Beale. Tonight's concert was his inaugural concert with the organization, and I have to say that I really did have quite a wonderful time. -And I "blame" him. ;)
I've basically shied away from gay men's chorus concerts for the past couple of years due to some very "unfortunate" concerts I had attended in the past. Sometimes the inherent kitsch factor just gets to be a bit too twee for me. Tonight's concert did have a few touches of kitsch, but they were pulled off with class and knowing tongue-in-cheekiness.
The repertoire selection was quite varied - which also contributed to my enjoyment of the concert. And DR elmore's contributions were well-received by these often too-critical ears.
Most importantly, tonight's concert was just the kick in the pants I needed to get into the Christmas Spirit. The past couple of weeks have been busy, scattered, and at time unfocused for me. It was just nice to smile tonight, and to be in the company of a dear friend. Thank you, Larry.
-
Oh... And tonight's audience participation number was "The Twelve Days of Christmas". Each section of the audience - up in the top balcony - was assigned a day, and the whole audience was "Five Golden Rings". So, each time your day came up - along with the Fifth Day - your section of the audience stood up and sang along. Quite the aerobic workout!
-
I loved playing Senex!! ;D
I was once cast as Pseudolus, but the show never went beyond a second rehearsal as cast members just didn't show up.
-
Happy you got all those treasure before you go away for the holidays, DR Ron. Why don't you take one of those DVD sets home to SC with you? Surely you'd have a spare moment to watch something during the time you're there.
I'll watch "The Bourne Ultimatum" before tomorrow night. As for taking anything home, it never works out. There's never sit/watch time during the day...and something "seasonal" attracts my mom's attention in the evenings. Besides, I enjoy watching FMC and TCM while I'm home.
The DVDs will keep.
-
We had to go up north so we got to have dinner at my favorite Vietnamese restaurant which grills meat in grape leaves. I always get grape lead salmon...sooooo goooood!
Hmm... I haven't had grape-leaf salmon before, since I usually stick with the grape-leaf-grilled pork. There was a place in Fairfax, VA, that combines a few different Vietnamese cooking methods in one. They do the ground pork and shrimp wrapped around sticks of sugar cane, then wrap that all up in grape leaves before grilling. I love putting it all together at the table with the lettuce leaves, noodles, shredded carrots and cucumber and nuoc nam.
Did you go to the Grape Leaf Grill? If so, I've actually been there before. :)
-
...And I've always enjoyed playing in the pit for A Funny Thing Happened On the Way to the Forum. ;)
-
Well, we do get a taste of fancy chandeliers whenever DR Laura goes to Vegas!
But are they out on the streets as decorations? :)
I think BK should do a drive down Rodeo with Cason and Adriana and get some pictures to post here at the site just to show us what a Beverly Hills Christmas looks like!!
-
DR TCB - Ditto! I'd see a doctor sooner rather than later. Or at least call one up, or even consult with a pharmacist at your local drugstore. Stay well!
-
I've been invited to two, count em two, Christmas shindigs down south...one in San Diego and one in the greater LA area. Both from internet acquaintances!
I'd love to go, but I'd rather be in South Carolina with my mom!
-
Why, we could be reported for having a photograph of a naked bare-assed child on the Internet, don't you know.
What makes you think I that someone hasn't already done that?
:P
-
Oh, and, lo and behold, when I got back to the apartment tonight, there was a Christmas tree set up in the living room. A rather large Christmas tree - even she was surprised at how big it was after she had taken off the netting. But, heck, it's a Christmas tree.
:)
-
Good evening! I had a good time at the Temptations concert. There is only one original Temptation left...Otis Williams. The sound could have been better. One of my pet peeves is the way everything is amplified in the Orpheum. It has great acoustics naturally, but when they set up the giant speakers, there are dead places and I was sort of in one. So, some of it was hard to hear. When they sang a capella, the harmony was fabulous and I adored them
-
And speaking of the internet... It appears that I will not be playing the EPAs for Gypsy tomorrow. Instead, I will be playing the EPAs for Passing Strange. So, it looks like it will be an R&B day for me. :-\ I love listening to R&B, but I always feel uncomfortable playing it. -In auditions at least. I always find myself wishing a bass player and drummer were in the room with me. However, I suspect it will be a fun call, and it will also be my first time working for the Public Theatre too.
-
Jose &/or Larry - Any further Boston thoughts? Or is that just not going to work out this year schedule-wise?
-
As for the Topic of the Day...
Ditto.
The main reason I switched over from a PC to a Mac a couple years ago was that Microsoft/Windows was gearing their products towards ALWAYS being connected to the net. There was just too much stuff always going on in the background.
I use my computer for e-mail and word processing and, yes, surfing and chatting via the net. I'm not a video-computer-gamer, so I don't use it for that. I'm also not much of a music downloader. And HHW is the only "chat board" I read and contribute to on a regular basis.
As others have stated, I just don't want to be that connected. There's just no need for me to be "available" all the time, professionally or personally. I even downgraded my cellphone last spring to a non-camera one. I simply wanted a phone that was a phone, not a camera, MP3 player and web-browser.
Are there times when I wish I had more features on my computer (or my cellphone)? Yes, of course. But then when I find myself having to recharge my iPod because I haven't used in a week.. or even two... well... *I even think now that I may have left my iPod on the plane when I flew home for Thanksgiving. Yes, I'm sort of mad at myself for losing it, but, frankly, I don't really miss it. -Although, I think I'm going to buy a new one next week. :)

Jose &/or Larry - Any further Boston thoughts? Or is that just not going to work out this year schedule-wise?
Well... The only time I know I can go up at this point is this Thursday, and that would be just for the night. -Or I could go up next Thursday, but again, that would just be for the night. So, I think I'm going to have to go another Christmas without seeing White Christmas this year. *Although, I do reserve the right to head out on my own at the last moment should the spirit move me. ;)

...And I've always enjoyed playing in the pit for A Funny Thing Happened On the Way to the Forum. ;)
I have played 1 (count them) 1 performance of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forun. My pal Mark was in a bind and begged me to come in. I didn't know the show well and I had about 36 hours to even look at the score. In the end, the first violinist said "You're the best sub we've had yet". It's something I don't wish to do again :)

Oh... And as for what I love about the net: People. And as for what I hate about the net: People. ;)
However, I have to say that I've made many friends over the years via the net. I like chatting, and, yes, I'm one of those people who tends to be shy in person, but very non-shy via a chat window. I'm very inquisitive by nature, so I tend to ask a lot of questions of people. Sometimes too many questions. It's just my way of screening people who I eventually want to meet in person. And contrary to popular belief, I do not meet everyone at The Reservoir.

I've done a few shows where I was called in at the last minute, and I've always had a wonderful and exciting(!) time in those situations. It amazes me just how much my concentration comes into focus.
*I still remember basically having to read the Piano 2 book for Side By Side By Sondheim on six hours(!) notice... And then the total shock and surprise and amusement when the reviewer from The Washington Post mentioned the two pianists by name in the closing paragraph of her review - we were one of the few things she really loved about the production!
-
Well, since I have to be up in a couple of hours to play some auditions...
Goodnight.
-
I think we should do a HHW production of Side By Side By Sondheim :)
-
...Or even Side By Side By Sondheim. ;)
-And maybe bk could get Mr. Sondheim to structure a new "Conversation Piece" for our production.
-
Are we STILL on page twelve? I'm finished viewing for the evening.
-
I guess we'll remain on page twelve since I'm the only one in the jernt.
-
And yet - page thirteen.
-
Will we never get to page fourteen?
-
Welcome fifteen GUESTS, sitting there like so much fish.
