I really enjoyed "Ghost Whisperer" and "Moonlight" last night. "Numbers" was pretty good, too, although I was on the computer through much of it trying figure out whether my mother has any cropping tools for photos. Thus far, I've found nothing.
Thanks for the story, DR EDISAURUS!
DR ELMORE I just ordered Shakespeare Retold from DD for only $25.14.
And the word of the day is: SUDORIFEROUS!Herc (as his friends familiarly called him) was embarassed that he never broke out in a sweat when he dropped by the gym. He took to stealing other guys gym socks and rubbing them over his body, so that he could at least smell PSEUDORIFEROUS.
...White Christmas I watched in bits and pieces but can't be really called a Kaye film....I don't know why not! I love White Christmas, and particularly love him in the film. (I cannot imagine what it would be like if Fred Astaire or Donald O'Connor had played the part, since Danny was the third choice - Fred was never that funny, nor Donald that smooth a dancer.)
Danny Kaye played a cobbler in that film, and I do love a nice cobbler, especially served with vanilla chip ice cream. He was particularly good singing the song "Wonderful Wonderful Copenhaagen-dazs."
Although this movie musical has been a beloved favorite for decades -- especially at Christmastime -- there has never been an official "original soundtrack" album released in any form. Decca controlled the soundtrack rights, but Rosemary Clooney was under exclusive contract to Columbia, who would not allow her to appear on a competing label. As a result, Decca and Columbia each released their own White Christmas albums in 1954, although neither is an official soundtrack. Decca's album featured the movie cast minus Rosemary Clooney, with Peggy Lee taking over Clooney's part. Columbia's album had Rosemary Clooney singing 8 songs from the film. Both albums have been issued on CD in recent years.

Ah, thanks for the assist, DR td!
Attorneys for the milk processors sent a letter to PETA in late November ordering them to stop selling items like mugs, mouse pads and barbecue aprons with the slogan “Got Pus? Milk does.” At issue wasn’t whether milk contains pus (we’ll get to that tricky question in a moment) but that PETA was profiting off of a federally registered trademark.
So... Radiator is a-hissing and a-steaming away. The steam I don't mind. However, the hissing is quite loud and annoying. Any suggestions on how to lower the hissing?Only play for your fans.
Der Brucer has Lost 3 on order - it should arrive sometime soon. I've started running through the earlier seasons, just because I don't remember where we left off.
That's one thing that's frustrating about my work schedule - I never know whether I'm going to be working at night, running in conflict with what few shows I like to watch. Combine this with der B having a very full televiewing schedule, and I run into real problems watching the stuff he's recorded for me, because he wants to watch the recorded stuff with me and there never seems to be the time. I lost track of Lost last year, and had the same problem with Heroes this season.
(Fear not, I am not spoiler-phobic, so you guys can discuss away without ruining the shows for me.)

edisaurus, can you please PM me your new address?
Anyway, I never heard any bad stories about him. Now Sylvia Fine, well...he didn't seem to be quite as fond of her.

. . .and now, off to the Toffee mines. . .
We had an evening of technical difficulties last night at Cinderella. Someone had screwed with the board and the levels for the pre-record were horrible until about halfway through the first act.
And now it's time for Uncle Jojo to possibly go ice-skating - more like ice-stumbling - in Bryant Park. -Although, I'll just opt to stay outside the rink and take pictures. :)
Those are the stories I heard. She was rather controlling & it was difficult for DK to cope with, or to stand up to her.
I also know the little girl who played his daughter in 5 LITTLE PENNIES absolutely adored him.
I will be errant and truant most of the day because:
I'M THROWING A SURPRISE PARTY FOR MY MOTHER'S 75TH BIRTHDAY!
"The Elusive Butterfly of Love"... Hmmm... Wasn't that featured in an episode of "L.A. Law"?
;)
I woke up with a bit of a sore throat, too. :-\ We only have two Nite of the Living Dead! The Musical! performances left! As long as I can say my lines, I'm not too concerned about getting sick. And I have a ton of sick leave, so I can use it for work.
George, I don't think I am going to make it to Olympia for the DEAD.
I'm glad DVD's are starting to arrive!
Was that Red Skelton? Oy.
Re: Lost. Is this now-halved 8 episode run the result of the writers' strike? That doesn't seem logical as they've been working on the series lo these many months it's been off the air, haven't they?
There were two KCET (PBS, LA) specials called Musical Comedy Tonight (1979) and Musical Comedy Tonight II (1981) which were hosted (and scripted) by Sylvia Fine.
The later had Danny doing bits from Lady in the Dark.
They must have re-run the later because I think I saw it with Woody.
The temps are warming up outside

I think tonight I'll watch from the SHAKESPEARE RETOLD collection the MACBETH set in a restaurant (Macbeth is the head chef). It should be an intereasting reflection of TOP CHEF. The other two play adaptations, which I'll watch next week, are MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM and TAMING OF THE SHREW

How was your trip Ron?
Question: Does anyone have the link for a couple of sites that Ben mentioned a while ago for editing music? I lost all of my links when I had the puter reformatted a couple of months ago. I believe one was called Audacity.

Our December summer has ended as it's not getting out of the 40s today. I did enjoy it while it lasted. But this certainly will do wonders to get me more in the holiday spirit. So! You really WOULDN'T like to spend Christmas on Christmas Island!

You can visit Ben's profile and look at his past posts to recover those links, Dakota.
A cake report from yesterday - orange and almond. (DR Jose will know)
Is Mr. B. Childers related to Mr. M. Childers?
Re Danny Kaye
I remember a really funny bit in a film; the scene was set in a large elegant drawing room with a large ceramic platter balanced on a ledge over a doorway; when the band hit certain rhythms, the plate would start to walk across the ledge; the villain entered and stood under the doorway and Kaye proceeded to try and get the plate to fall and KO the baddie.
On the Riviera perhaps?
DR’s TCB, elmore, George & Ginny, take care of your throats.
All of you, wear a scarf wrapped around your face when you go out into the cold.

Td, thanks for the party news updates and the photos. The Christmas tree is beautiful. Who is making & and what will it be when it’s completed.
Hello, all you lovely DRs! I am back from New Jersey. My mother and I cut back this year. We only made about 80 dozen cookies of approximately 7 different types.
Whew! :)
I now have to go re-group. And catch up on two days of HHW.
But I shall be back!
Oh - here's a shot I took this morning off my mother's back deck:(http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t87/singdaw/PC150001.jpg)
Thanks, Jane. I'll have to find my scarf, though. ::) I think it's in my extra bedroom....I think.
Glad to hear that you like Mum's quilting. It's a gift for a cousin.

Cilla, as tempting as the two cats were, wise decision to pass. With all the health issues your two have had it might be best not to add the stress of new cats. Yours are doing so well right now :).
Oh, I wasn't seriously considering it. I have enough health issues adding two 12 year olds would only increase them
DR TD, Minx is having as much fun as anyone at that party! LOL!
Nice phtotos, td. How did you get Martin Mull to drop in at the party?
DR td - So how come there are no pics of your Mr. Mull together? Or were you guys taking turn taking the pictures?
Oh, DR MBarnum, you've made a common faux paws, Miss Dixie Bell enjoyed all of the company; Missy Minx resides in an urn in the china closet behind my computer. . .but, I'm sure she was here in spirit. ;)
I believe you mean the 1948 musical A SONG IS BORN, with Kaye and Virginia Mayo.
Singdaw -I want to make cookies and watch sunsets off of your mother’s porch-BEAUTIFUL!
Der Brucer is probably getting hungry. I'm roasting chicken breasts with ginger tonight. That and carrots, and RiceaRoni, the San Francisco Treat.
I know the right people.
Der Brucer is watching a movie called Ghost Rider. I have no idea why.
Except, because of your wrist, all you would do is sit on the porch!
Good Evening!

...I didn't buy anything, I just couldn't move anywhere in the store in order to buy anything! It was CROWDED! So crowded that they had the store staff "ration" the use of the main escalator in the store ("Stop... Go... Stop... Go...") - and were even letting customers use the employee elevator in order to help control the flow of the crowd. We did manage a few minutes in there with Alexandra, but even she wanted to leave after being shoved for the umpteenth time by various and sundried mothers and their children.
A fellow came to my register today with a cart filled with canned goods - over $230 worth. Yep, it's time for contributions to be made. I like people like this.

The end of St. Elsewhere!
Beautiful Christmas photos Jose. The snowglobe is fun, but where is the snow?
That's in Bryant Park? Only four blocks from my home? If the weather's pleasant tomorrow, I must get over there.
Happy Birthday to TD's Dear Mom!!!
*But they did have ice sculptures and a very handsome Canadian Mountie nearby for photo ops.
Hi Danise.

Congrats to DR MATTH on his 30,000 posts!
Of course there's life outside my apartment. The Little Pie Shop is half a block away.
While at Bryant Park this afternoon, we were able to see the World's Largest Snowglobe. It's part of the Canada tribute(?) that's taking place in Bryant Park this month. Each week a different province is featured. This week it is Ontario, and, apparently, snowglobes are popular in Ontario. ;)
