Well, you've read the notes, the notes felt like the notes, and now it is time to post until the cows come home - they will, as soon as they feel like the cows.
-
And the word of the day is: JOUNCE!
-
Will we never get to page two?
-
I gotta tell you.
-
I have nothing to add to that.
;)
-
So, I will go to bed. :)

Feel better PRONTO, DR Cillaliz! :)

Ah, Slingblade! Phone number?

Gee, this place is kind of eerie when you are the only one here. It has quite an echo too.
Thank goodness there are 13 guests here with me.
-
DR TCB - Since you follow sports somewhat, you may already know that the photo is of Bo Eason, former defensive back for the Oilers. He's got a one-man show/monologue playing now.
-
when you are the only one here
I guess I'm just chopped liver! ;)

DR TCB has to work today to get paid for not working yesterday. :-\

DR TCB has to work today to get paid for not working yesterday. :-\
Sad, but true.

WOD:
I'm walking with a spring in my step.
Oh, yes.
A spring.
-
And I get paid for going to work today. . .be back after 4.
-
DR td - wishing you a safe commute to work this morning.
-
I only know Bo Eason, because he is Tony Eason's brother.
-
Interestingly, DR TCB, the review of the show said that this is exactly what the show is about - his struggle to live in the shadow of his more famous and more successful brother.
-
Interestingly, DR TCB, the review of the show said that this is exactly what the show is about - his struggle to live in the shadow of his more famous and more successful brother.
I rest my case.
Have a good day!
-
*note: I'm talking like I know the first little thing about football. Which is a complete hoax!
-
struggle to live in the shadow of his more famous and more successful brother
A problem that DR JoseSPiano's brothers have in common, no doubt. :)
-
There are exactly eight cars parked in this garage.

And the word of the day is: JOUNCE!
And The Song Of The Day Is: BOUNCE

The shadow my brother lives in at family gatherings is the one cast by my stomach.

Don't work too hard, DR Sandra!
-
DR Sandra -
Glad to see that your internet thingamajig is all charged up! :)
-
A guy just asked why he had to pay to leave the garage. How do you answer that?
-
Wednesday morning greetings! The first workday of 2008 and it started with a snowy commute. Not only was I tense about my own drive, but about the fact that Rob and Mary Linda left about an hour ago to drive to her family's in Michigan. Travel vibes for them would be appreciated.
-
DR Ginny - glad you made it without mishap. I hate driving in inclement weather!

DR Sandra - are you kidding? :P
There are some situations where there are no words.
Perhaps a simple ::) would suffice.
-
Thanks, DRs Singdaw and FJL!
-
Travel vibes for DS Rob and Mary Linda.
It is very cold today.....but the snow has blown off the road, at least.
I am not working today.....but for the next three days! Whew!
-
I watched THE DAY THE EARTH CAUGHT FIRE last night and listened to the commentary with director Val Guest and Ted Newsome. It was very interesting and enjoyable.

There is a Jupiter-Uranus alignment today that will stimulate mental faculties....so everybody think hard!!!

I am staying home sick today and will sit on the couch and watch movies. That is all.

DR Sandra, you must have to get to work very early in the morning!

Hope you feel much better very soon, DR MBarnum!
I don't care what DR elmore3003 says!! ;)

That's a whole different piece of jewelry.

Listen Dude, your car's been sitting here like so much fish all night. Think that's free?

Watch Judge David Young. ;D

Good morning, Ginny.
Safe travel vibes for Rob and Mary Linda.

My first question for ASK BK day - what is your favorite Pat Boone song? What is your favorite Pat Boone movie?
-
Good morning, DR JULIE.
-
Good morning, all! I finally slipped off to sleep after 3 am and I am feeling quite groggy today. I am up, though! I have a trek to the post office, a phone call to my dad's bank, an order for some music, and possibly a movie with Alice and Cathie to deal with before my day is over.

CONDOLENCES to DR Ron Pulliam!
-
Oh, well.
The weather forecast is frightening. Starting tomorrow, we are expecting a storm onslaught worse than any we've had since 1995. We are expecting 1-5 inches of rain, with winds from 60-75 mph on Friday. The weather prognosticator said he can't see how anything might change because the storm front is "huge".
-
Wet, wet, wet.
That's what we'll all be here in the Bay Area.
I'll need to recheck my balcony plants this evening to ensure everything is secure.
-
Jose - Got your message. Tried to answer, but your inbox was full.

I didn't forget my pencil today, so I am hard at work drawing a picture of the heater on the wall of the booth.
-
Good morning, DR JRand!

Heaters on the wall
I can hear them call
(almost a 42nd Street reference)

DR Ron Pulliam -
Just sing Menken and Schwartz's "Happy Working Song"! :)

Good morning!
It is VERY cold here and going to get colder during the next few days. Not getting out of the 30s today which is very cold for us. I'm not sure we had any lows in the teens in 2007, but we're going to have two nights of them upcoming.
-
I think I will watch FIVE LITTLE PEPPERS IN TROUBLE, as it is on my DVR. Seeing as how I have interviewed two of the cast members, it might be fun.
-
Sorry for those who have to go to work.
Best feel better wishes for those who are infirm.
-
Good morning, DR JRand!
;D
-
DR MBarnum, please e-mail me your mailing address. Thanks.

The season premiere of LAW & ORDER happens tonight on NBC. They're running two new hours back-to-back, and these hours introduce new cast members to the show. Linus Roche will now be the primary ADA with Sam Waterston moved up to the head DA job. I love Linus Roche, so the show should benefit from this change. Jeremy Sisto also joins Jesse Martin as a detective in the show's "Law" part.
-
Today I'll watch the two shows I recorded last night. The BOSTON LEGAL episode description sounded vaguely familiar, so it may have been a repeat. If so, I'll instantly delete it and go on to SVU.
-
Favorite Pat Boone movie: APRIL LOVE
Favorite Pat Boone song: MOODY RIVER (followed very closely by FRIENDLY PERSUASION)
-
As for the remainder of the day, I've got to spend part of it with ROB & BIG though I doubt I'll finish the set today. It's just so mindless that I can't summon up much energy to watch episode after episode back-to-back. I have to temper those shenanigans with something of a little more substance.
-
I believe PROJECT RUNWAY is also a new episode tonight.
-
Julie, that show you saw, Queens Boulevard - that show's author only thinks about Mee, Mee, Mee.
-
(The author of Queens Boulevard is Charles Mee, so that was a pun of some sort.)
-
Linus Roache
Love him! ;D

Mee, Mee, Mee
Do any of the show's characters sing "For Mee...For Mee...For MEEEEEEEE"? ;)
-
Interestingly, DR TCB, the review of the show said that this is exactly what the show is about - his struggle to live in the shadow of his more famous and more successful brother.
I haven't heard of either one of them, but that means absolutely nothing.
-
Thanks for the vibes, DRs JRand, Julie, and Elmore!

Julie, that show you saw, Queens Boulevard - that show's author only thinks about Mee, Mee, Mee.
Yeah, well - someone should have told the Signature Theater this year that three Mee's don't make a right.
-
Good morning, everyone.
I didn't fall asleep until 2:30 and am feeling not altogether with it today. My father was a terrible insomniac. I never had problems sleeping until he passed away. It's as if he passed me the insomnia baton. Funny, eh?
-
A guy just asked why he had to pay to leave the garage. How do you answer that?
Well, as I see it you have several options:
(1) You can ask him if he likes cherry coke.
(2) You can tell him to eat his vegetables.
(3) You can shout, "UNDERPANTS!"
He'll probably feel so bewildered that he'll be happy to leave.
-
So sorry to hear that, DR Jeanne! :-\

Seriously, crossword puzzles are supposed to stimulate certain areas of the brain, thus making said puzzler more alert, more mentally agile. I would think that the humor that takes place here stimulates the brain, as well. (Well, maybe not MY so-called humor--not today, anyway.)

I believe that SVU was a new episode last night. At least, it was new to me. More bad teenage girls.
Yes, my cable guide identified the episode as new. It didn't indicate new or repeat for BOSTON LEGAL which is why I had a question. I was watching the Jerry Herman special, so I didn't get to check it out last night as there were no commercial breaks on PBS.
-

What's this fuss (an Emily Litella reference) about the man finding a $185,000 check and returning it, and the surprise that he only got a $50 reward for returning it?
It's a check. wouldn't he have been in trouble if he tried to cash it?
I must be missing something regrading this "big story" of honorable behavior going unrewarded.
-
Maybe it's time for me to run my errands before I chase everyone away.
-
Jeanne is going to be Errand and Truant.

I like that. Has that been used before? BK is forever going to the Post Office. But then, that would deserve its own special term.
-
If you haven't heard it before, it's new to you! :) :)
-
I am now drawing the fire extinguisher that's hanging on the wall under the heater.
-
Jeanne - Actually, if you google "errand and truant," you'll find a few previous uses of the phrase, all of them oddly on HHW! :)
-
More from yesterday's party:
My neighbor Kitty has been complaining because some of our neighbors don't keep take care of their "gardens" and a group of opossums were hanging out on her fence and scaring her little dog. Another neighbor said she spotted two large SNAKES in our alley, as well. And be with a big hole in my attic! EEEWWWWW! Thank God/Matt that the hole is now fixed!!! Had it not been, I REALLY would have not slept!
-
Jeanne - Actually, if you google "errand and truant," you'll find a few previous uses of the phrase, all of them oddly on HHW! :)
funny, it never occurred to me to do that. But I'll keep the phrase in mind; I quite like it.
-
DR FJL - I don't know about the news story, but a few months ago, I lost my car keys in the parking lot of a local Super Stop & Shop. The person that found them [within a few minutes] would not hand them over to me unless I "rewarded" him with cash first. I found this very disturbing. I wouldn't dream of doing this if I found someone's keys.
-

My God!
-
What did you do?
-
Well, I gave him the cash....which was $20, since I had no smaller bills.
I realized afterward that I could have said, "Oh, my wallet is in my car, if you'll give me the keys I'll give you something," and then driven away quickly. But I never think well on my feet in situations like this.
-
Call 911 and report the theft of the keys and identify the culprit.
This is hindsight of course.
-
Thank God/Matt that the hole is now fixed!!!
"Marvelous Matt" truly IS marvelous for coming out on New Year's Day, with presumably short notice! :)

-
I think this is from the episode Ethel's Hometown.
-
Call 911 and report the theft of the keys and identify the culprit.
This is hindsight of course.
Possible. But the "thief" was one of the collection workers retrieving the recyclable bottles from the deposit return in a huge truck, and I didn't want him tossing my keys into the shredder!
I never mentioned it here at HHW because at the time I was kind of embarrassed about the whole thing, but that story reported by DR FJL brought it all back.
-

Yes, do report it. I'm glad Sing is safe. What a horrible experience!
-
"Marvelous Matt" truly IS marvelous for coming out on New Year's Day, with presumably short notice! :)
I emailed him the night I heard the scratch-scratch-scratching, which was several days ago. He was in PA for the holidays, then showed up at my door yesteday while I was here at HHW. I had no idea he'd show up then. I don't know what I'd do without him.
-
Possible. But the "thief" was one of the collection workers retrieving the recyclable bottles from the deposit return in a huge truck, and I didn't want him tossing my keys into the shredder!
Having been in a couple difficult situations myself, I'd say do whatever you have to to get yourself safe and out of trouble FIRST, then do what you can to report it, etc. later.
He may have had worse things in mind than shredding your keys.
-
It's quite cold here today--3o's for HIGHS and a wind. BRRR.

That's unreal. And sad, actually.
If that happened to me, and I was quick enough to think of it (which I wouldn't be) and brave enough to do it (which I wouldn't be), I think I would quickly pull out my cell phone and snap a photo and then as I was pressing some buttons, tell the guy I was forwarding his photo to 911.
-
Call 911 and report the theft of the keys and identify the culprit.
This is hindsight of course.
Oh! You already thought of that!! :)
-
Hmmm...would that pulling out the cell phone and snapping a picture work in the situation of an actual mugging, I wonder.
-

I never mentioned it here at HHW because at the time I was kind of embarrassed about the whole thing, but that story reported by DR FJL brought it all back.
It must have been a very scary moment for you. I would be panicked.
-
Hmmm...would that pulling out the cell phone and snapping a picture work in the situation of an actual mugging, I wonder.
Well - I was just being ridiculous in my reply. Obviously, safety is the first and only concern, and just getting away quickly and alive is the only real strategy if something like this happens.
-
I have an aunt who, every day emails me some scary forwarded email about women getting attacked in parking lots or just walking down the street or in the grocery store. What do you call those people who are afraid to go out of their home? I think she's trying to turn me into that! :-)
-
Oh, never mind. :)
-
never mind
Another Emily Litella reference? ;)
-
I am outraged at the story of DR Singdaw's keys and the guy who held them hostage.
-
And don't feel embarrassed DR Singdaw - it is the collection worker that should be embarrassed. And his mother - who obviously forgot to raise him properly.
-
Actually, a question for ask Bk (or anyone else) day - Thinking about it in a real mugging situation - Would making the crook think you're sending his photo to your blog in case he does something violent prevent the thief from doing something violent or make it worse? Obviously, this would only be applicable if one felt the mugger was about to do something violent to you.

Well, since most camera phones take a few button pushes to get them to work, I don't think one would have the time to take the picture. At the very least, the mugger would most likely take the phone out of your hand anyway.

I'm almost not groggy.

I found a credit card in a parking lot and returned it to the bank. I found a check in a parking lot and took it home, called the person on the phone, and mailed it back. I never expected anything for doing what a person should do.

Well, that would sort of make your initials FU.

-
Glad they arrived home safely, Ginny.

I think I saw FU at the WTF.
-
I think I talked about this here - but I found a wallet outside of Amoeba, right near my car where I'd parked on Cahuenga. It was a young girl's wallet, a college student. I took it home with me. There was a little cash, a couple of credit cards, some ID. I knew she must be freaking out. The address on her license was out of town. So, I called her credit card companies and told them I'd found her wallet and they said they'd take the info. I asked to talk to a supervisor and told her that the girl was probably freaking out, that she wasn't from LA and that I wanted her or her parents to be called. The supervisors at both companies agreed to do it, I gave them my phone number and info. About a half-hour later the girl called, really relieved that I'd found it. I told her she could come to my house to get it, or if she wasn't comfortable with that I'd be happy to meet her somewhere. She came over (with her boyfriend in tow), and I gave it back to her.
-
I did some fixing and rewriting and then wrote two additional new pages - I'll probably try to write three more during the day.
-
bk, your work ethic is truly admirable.
-
Thanks, DRs Singdaw and Julie. Can you hear the sound of me exhaling?
-
Perhaps we'll have a photo of DR Edisaurus's new curtains...
-
Can you hear the sound of me exhaling?
Yes! It's sort of the opposite of what Ross Perot memorably called that great sucking sound! ;)
-
Well, I'm back at the office. I still haven't completely caught up, mainly because I spent Sunday, Monday and Tuesday sick! The worst was Monday but I'm feeling better now.
We went to Brooklyn on Sunday to visit Anthony's cousins. I think too much pizza, wine and chocolate cake did me in (also there were some sick children in the home).
To resurrect a phrase from my college years, I spent Monday driving the porcelain bus. I slept most of yesterday and felt well enough this morning to come to the office. I decided not to come in at 6am (my usual time which allows me to eat breakfast, browse e-mail and other sites and check in here) but instead I came in at my normal start time of 8am. I went home at lunch and had some soup and took a nap. I will go home at 4pm, probably have more soup and go to bed early.
Before I leave, George, JMK mentioned a site you linked to called Freevid and Freerecorder. I haven't caught up yet and I may have missed it. When I google that phrase all I find is porn references. Could you possibly enlighten me as to the correct Internet location of Freevid so that I can bypass the porn? Thanks.
-
DR Ben, it's www.keepvid.com...
-
Where in tarnation IS everyone?
-
They're about to have a big Otto Preminger fest here in LA, at both the Egyptian and the Aero Theaters. I'm going to go to practically all of the screenings, but am most interested to see Exodus on the big screen. I'm hoping that minimally they have a 35mm Tech print, but wouldn't it be amazing if they'd struck a new 70mm print for the fest? I think we would know if they had, but one can dream. Also seeing Bunny Lake, Bonjour Tristesse (which I've never seen on the big screen), Hurry Sundown, Saint Joan, Advise and Consent, and one or two others. And don't forget, TCM is showing the legendary and horrific Skidoo this week.
-
DR Ben - it's no fun to ring in the New Year the way you did! Glad to hear that you're feeling better.
-
Wrote another couple of pages, and will probably write one more this afternoon, for a total of seven.

But now it's time to think about FOOD.

Mr. Pogue, you should have a royalty check soon. I used a giftcard to get the HD-DVD of Dragonslayer this morning. ;D

I'm in the mood for food
Simply because I'm hungry
And when I get too hungry
I'm in the mood for food.

Will we never get to page eight?

Do any other DRs read and catch up on the notes before logging on here?
-
Do any other DRs read and catch up on the notes before logging on here?
There are notes? :o ;D
-
Pat Boone:
Movie: Mardi Gras
Song: Wang Dang Taffy Apple Tango. (just for the title)
Least favourite songs:
Twixt Twelve and Twenty
Tie Me Kangaroo Down Sport. (Yes! He really did record it!)
-
I should have written posts! What notes?
-
2008's good bossa nova news: Luciana Souza's gorgeous "New Bossa Nova" CD is luscious, with BN versions of American pop hits, and a nice duet with James Taylor, to boot.
2008's potentially scary bossa nova news: Sergio Mendes' second collaboration with Will.I.am is due in about 8 weeks. Hopefully it won't be "infected" with quite as much rap as the first outing. It also apparently features a collaboration with Herb (who?) and Lani (double who?).
-
I should hope notes first, then posts.
-
I got the soundtrack to a film I'd never even heard of, entitled Bossa Nova, some Bruno Baretto film (the world's worst director and husband of Amy Irving, who stars). It's a combo platter of old tunes and some new Deodato score tracks - a very pleasant listen.
-
Welcome nine GUESTS.
-
I guess I'll go out now and do errands and whatnot.
-
Sad to read that creator/writer Jon Robin Baitz appears to have left Brothers & Sisters.
OMG! He's the heart and soul of the show. This does NOT make me happy.
-
The episode of BOSTON LEGAL last night was a rerun so I immediately deleted it.
-
Do any other DRs read and catch up on the notes before logging on here?
In order . . . .
1. I read the end of the last night's posts after I log off
2. I read today's BK notes
3. I begin with today's posts on the forum and go from there.
-
Next, I watched last night's SVU which was, as DR Elmore previously pointed out, a new episode. A good one too about homeless "families." Scary stuff and an interesting story, very layered this week.
-
Then, I spent almost the rest of the afternoon on ROB AND BIG. I have two more episodes to go and some bonus features. Thankfully, the shows are so inane that I don't have to take many notes, and the guys are such good natured Joes that it's easy to just sit there and watch them be ridiculous.
-
I did zip through today's AS THE WORLD TURNS. No gay characters on today or in the previews for tomorrow.
-
Well, that would sort of make your initials FU.
;D
As in Francis Urquhart, a really slimy politican in the British mini-series, HOUSE OF CARDS.
-
Do any other DRs read and catch up on the notes before logging on here?
I always read the Notes first. Even if I don't have time to read the posts, I read the Notes.
-
DR td - wishing you a safe commute to work this morning.
There, and back again.
-
I think this is from the episode Ethel's Hometown.
Ethel Mae Potter, we never forgot her!
-
Good Afternoon!
Well, I opened some mail... I read some mail... I took care of some e-mails... I made a few phone calls.. Etc., etc., etc...
And now I'm about to head out into the cold(!) to meet a friend for dinner.
-
Re: parking lot comeback: Just tell them, "You're not paying for leaving, silly, you're paying late for coming in." ;D
Mr. Pogue, you should have a royalty check soon. I used a giftcard to get the HD-DVD of Dragonslayer this morning. ;D
DRAGON SLAYER with Peter MacNicol or DRAGONHEART written by Charles E Pogue?
-
I've run all my errands and accomplished much. I have my 2008 calendars and I can settle in for the evening.
-
My routine...
I always stay logged in - I checked that box...
-I read the posts from the night before that I haven't read yet.
-I read Today's Notes.
-I read today's posts.
*And with tabbed browsing, it's easy to set up the responses to any posts I wish to respond to after I'm done catching up. And also keep track of the ones I no longer need or with to respond to.
-
I, too, took care of today's errands. I'm also trying to get back into a work routine after a much-needed break.
-
OK - Now that I look like Nanook of the North...
Laters...
-
I'm getting ready to head out to meet a friend for dinner.
-
Is there a Nanook of the South?
-
I must be the only dummy who bought my calendars last week and paid full price.
-
I blame Jose.
-
My shift was supposed to end almost half an hour ago, and my relief person isn't here yet. I have to go to the bathroom.
-
I guess I'll write for a bit and then head back down to see if I can finish up ROB & BIG.
WBBL.
-
Too much Cherry Coke?
There's no such thing.
-
Had a Philly Cheesesteak sandwich for lunch - excellent. No fries, no onion rings, just the sandwich. I went to the mail place to find that the two errant and truant packges still haven't arrived - both people tell me they were NOT sent media mail, so they'll both be getting a little note later - since one of the items was a Christmas gift, I'm not sure how I'll proceed with that fellow even if he decides he'll send me a like item.
-
I've spent most of the afternoon compiling my 2007 annual report - thank goodness I keep track of all this in a spreadsheet! Last year, I spent 122.75 hours in 57 meetings, presented 62.25 hours of programming to a total of 471 people, and engaged in 139 consults (in-person, phone, email) that required 58.5 hours of time. And on the fifth day, I information-waitressed.
-
And the word of the day is: JOUNCE!
Which you will find on aisle eightteen, with the rest of the laundry products.
-
I guess I'm just chopped liver! ;)
Chopped liver, meat department, back of the store.
-
WOD:
I'm walking with a spring in my step.
Oh, yes.
A spring.
Spring water, aisle nine, on the right.
-
But if I'd bought my calendars today, how would I have known what I was going to do New Year's Day?
-
I have written missives to the package people - both have been very good about responding.
-
I'm on the seventh page of today's writing - the chapter will be ending on this page (14), so I may only write another pargraph and leave the very end until the morning, so I start up in the midst of where I left off. Unless I decide to continue on to the next bit.
-
My friend David Burnham is going into WICKED this week, so I need to plan a trip to see him.
-
Do any other DRs read and catch up on the notes before logging on here?
I think the other DRs that responded missed DR Tomovoz's point.
Yes, I "catch up" reading unread posts without logging in, as I don't want DRs to think I'm sitting there being rude, not responding, when I'm still behind in previous pages. Once I've caught up with all posts and notes, I log in.
-
My friend David Burnham is going into WICKED this week
That's exciting! He's very talented.
And cute.
-
DR FJL - I don't know about the news story, but a few months ago, I lost my car keys in the parking lot of a local Super Stop & Shop. The person that found them [within a few minutes] would not hand them over to me unless I "rewarded" him with cash first. I found this very disturbing. I wouldn't dream of doing this if I found someone's keys.
At least he didn't run off with your car!
(BTW, the Stop & Shop chain is owned by the same company that owns Super G, where I work.)
-
DR SWW - so glad to read that you know exactly where everything is! :)
-
I think I'll take a little drive is what I think.
-
Hmmm...would that pulling out the cell phone and snapping a picture work in the situation of an actual mugging, I wonder.
No, the mugger would steal the phone. :P
-
On a lighter note...
An excerpt from the beginning of the Little Mermaid parody over at Broadway Abridged (http://www.broadwayabridged.com/scripts/littlemermaid.shtml):
I love the quote at the top of the page:
"Anything that's good is better shorter."
-- Arthur Laurents
Methinks Mr. Laurents is compensating for something. :o
-
Actually, a question for ask Bk (or anyone else) day - Thinking about it in a real mugging situation - Would making the crook think you're sending his photo to your blog in case he does something violent prevent the thief from doing something violent or make it worse? Obviously, this would only be applicable if one felt the mugger was about to do something violent to you.
I have yet to hear of a non-violent mugger.
People who are willing to threaten violence should always be taken at their word. Unfortunately.
I checked with the guy in charge of security for our stores a while back, and he told me that, if someone is holding up the store, always go along with the thief. The well-being of the employees is more valuable to the chain than any amount that could be in the till.

There's products that can dry-clean your clothes in the dryer. Aisle eightteen.

I'm glad to see that Fred the Usurper hasn't caught on as a nickname. :)
Which, of course, can be abbreviated as FJLtU.
Or, more properly, DR FJLtU.
;)

...And don't forget, TCM is showing the legendary and horrific Skidoo this week.
Products to get rid of Skidoo stains? Aisle eightteen again, right next to the dry-cleaning stuff and the Jounce.

Exactly how many husbands has Amy Iriving had? And which one was the best?

I got the soundtrack to a film I'd never even heard of, entitled Bossa Nova, some Bruno Baretto film (the world's worst director and husband of Amy Irving, who stars). It's a combo platter of old tunes and some new Deodato score tracks - a very pleasant listen.

There is indeed a Good Nanook of the South, and a Good Nanook of the North.
The Wicked Nanooks hail from the East and the West.

I'll keep that in mind! ;)

I think the other DRs that responded missed DR Tomovoz's point.

Oh, please! I log in each time I visit. If folks want to huff and puff about why I'm sitting there let them.
I pleases me!
;D
-
BK's notes are my home page; I read the notes, then the posts.
-
Mr. Pogue, you should have a royalty check soon. I used a giftcard to get the HD-DVD of Dragonslayer this morning. ;D
I hope it WAS "Dragonslayer"....much the better movie, IMO!

Catching up is not always a good thing. It makes me want to comment upon things I've read.
-
How was work today, DR RLP?
-
Neil Simon has said he never expected the biggest laugh in THE ODD COUPLE to come on this line:
You left me a note that said: "We're all out of corn flakes. F.U." It took me four hours to figure out that F.U. was Felix Ungar.
When I have done THE ODD COUPLE....it is indeed ONE BIG LAUGH!
-
How was work today, DR RLP?
It's busy.
It's nothing hard.
It's been short, to an extent.
But I'd still rather be home.
-
But Ron, you just flew from there!
-
I have no idea what we're going to have for dinner tonight. :-\
-
It's busy.
It's nothing hard.
It's been short, to an extent.
But I'd still rather be home.
Amen.
Very cold here....and not much network television is new tonight. I think I will watch WIFE SWAP and SUPER NANNY in their season premieres and then a new PWOJECT WUNWAY.
There is a Pioneers of Television episode on PBS, but not sure when it plays in my area....probably tomorrow.
-
I hope it WAS "Dragonslayer"....much the better movie, IMO!
Well, it stars Sean Bean, which one is that? :o ;D
-
DR JMK - late this month will mark the 50th anniversary of the appearance of Ms Frances Farmer Anderson Lobley (soon to be) Mikesell on Ralph Edwards' show THIS IS YOUR LIFE.
-
I have gotten very little movie watching done...but by golly I have taken some mighty lengthy naps!
I am half way through the 1956 film noir C.I.D. starring Dev Anand, Shakila, Johnny Walker, and KumKum. it is quite good.
Plot: A detective investigates the murder of a newspaper editor.
You wouldn't think so, but those Hindi's made some excellent film noirs in the 50s.

There is a Jupiter-Uranus alignment today that will stimulate mental faculties....so everybody think hard!!!
DR CILLA LIZ - a hematite ring or pendant can help absorb negativity.
Thanks JRand. I have one somewhere, I may have to dig it out
What do the stars say about Thursday and our caucus night

DR JMK - late this month will mark the 50th anniversary of the appearance of Ms Frances Farmer Anderson Lobley (soon to be) Mikesell on Ralph Edwards' show THIS IS YOUR LIFE.
Almost enough time to get the "smarm-taste" out of my mouth. :)
-
I took a little drive, wrote another half-page and finished the first chapter, and will mush on, perhaps even later tonight, but most certainly tomorrow morning.
-
Now I shall go sit on my couch like so much fish.
-
I'm watching all the pundits and talking heads tell me what I'm going to do tomorrow. LOL, I don't think any of them are right. I have to say, politics is more fun this year than ever before and I think it's mostly because the media is admitting they have no idea what we are going to decide tomorrow. LOL I LOVE IT

I'm watching all the pundits and talking heads tell me what I'm going to do tomorrow.
O'Reilly's Factor started off by stating that the Iowa straw polls had little meaning and was a "media driven" event - to prove his point he talked about it for over 30 minutes!
My favorite seasonal quote so far:
It is really easy to understand why most of the candidates have not captured a decisive edge in the competitions ahead. Few of them want to sculpt in fine detail their political and policy personas and want to remain blurry.
They want us to guess what they might do -- and some of us who turn our guesses into votes for an ultimate winner will still find ourselves disappointed that the reasons we supported this or that candidate got shelved in the end.
Despite all of the drama of this campaign process, when I think this through, I can very easily constrain my enthusiasm for any of the candidates.

To resurrect a phrase from my college years, I spent Monday driving the porcelain bus.
I say "praying to the porcelain god." ;)

Before I leave, George, JMK mentioned a site you linked to called Freevid and Freerecorder. I haven't caught up yet and I may have missed it. When I google that phrase all I find is porn references. Could you possibly enlighten me as to the correct Internet location of Freevid so that I can bypass the porn? Thanks.
If you go to http://keepvid.com/, click on the "Record," "Convert" or "Play" links and you'll go to sites (all from the same company) that have products to download to try or buy.

I wanted to say this about Take Flight, the recording of the new Maltby/Shire musical which intercuts between the lives and stories of the Wright brothers, Charles Lindbergh, and Amelia Earhart: it's wonderful!
I have always LOVED Maltby & Shire's scores for their reviews [ Starting Here, Starting Now and Closer Than Ever ], and LOVED even more their score for Baby, where every single number is a winner. But then their adaptation of the movie Big really disappointed me...with one or two exceptions, their score just didn't ignite for me.
But in Take Flight, they've returned to top form, IMHO. The music is different - not as immediately accessible as some of their other scores. But it is well-crafted, and ultimately it really soars. Just beautiful.
-
DR Ben, it's www.keepvid.com...
I suppose I should read the subsequent posts before I respond. ;)
-
DR Cillaliz - thanks for all of your updates. I think it is fascinating. And I will be thinking of you tomorrow night! :)
-
Do any other DRs read and catch up on the notes before logging on here?
I read the BK's Notes, log in and then ketchup with all of the posts. So if there's something that I want to respond to, I'm already signed in. I still need to go back to Monday's posts, though...I only got to page 18.

DR Cillaliz - thanks for all of your updates. I think it is fascinating. And I will be thinking of you tomorrow night! :)
You won't have to stay up too late to know the answer. Last time the media called it at about 8:30 PM Central and the Party had made it official by about 10:00 PM or 10:30 PM
-
So far tonight I have answered the phone 3 times (there were 7 new calls on the phone when I got home from work). It was the ACLU doing a fundraiser (stupid timing) Friends of the Earth endorsing John Edwards, and the Richardson campaign calling to see if I was still with them. I told them if he needs me to be viable I'll do it, but I'm not sure if I really will
-
Singdaw, do you realize that the big ballad in Take Flight is on your David Shire At The Movies CD? Back then it was the theme from Old Boyfriends. When I saw the very first (and dreadful) first reading of the show, the minute the tune started I looked at Mr. Shire with an "Oh, really?" look, and he gave me a sheepish look in return.
-
Back from a meeting. Food had been brought in from Artie's Deli. The blintzes were especially dazzling.
But then, for the trip home, it was coooooold.
-
Back from a lovely dinner at BLT Steak, with leftovers to have for lunch tomorrow. Also, a visit to the Container Store. Their closet organizer systems are 30 percent off right now. So tempting.
-
I'm watching "The Making of Sweeney Todd" the movie on HBO
-
I suppose I shall now try to watch a motion picture on DVD.

Good Evening!
I'm back from dinner with my friend, Michael. -Not that Michael. He was interested in checking out Koreatown, so we headed on down to 32nd Street. I had been wanting to head back to Restaurant Forte Baden Baden (http://events.nytimes.com/2006/09/20/dining/reviews/20unde.html) for a while, so I took him there. It's a Korean hof, and they specialize in beer and fried chicken. Yes, I had had fried chicken yesterday at Fred and Skip's place, but this is a different type of fried chicken. ;) They deep-fry rotisserie chickens!
We splurged, and got a large serving (a whole bird). It comes with some deep-fried garlic cloves, and french fries or onions rings, along with a small side of chunks of pickled daikon radish - all for $18.95! -We went ahead and got 1/2 fries, 1/2 onion rings. (Next time, we'll just stick to the the fries.) It was quite a good meal, and Michael was "thankful" that I had shown him another "food find".
After leaving the restaurant, we popped in across the street to check out the Korean supermarket, Hah Na Reum* (http://www.hmart.com/), as well as Koryodang* (http://www.koryodang.com/), the Korean bakery and cafe.
Then it was over to Macy's... Michael had never been down to The Cellar, and did not realize that there was a restaurant in the store. While browsing, we came across a whole slew of Christmas candy and other treats on clearance - 70% off! I was tempted to by some Frangos, but, thankfully, resisted.
Oh, and before dinner, we stopped into the new location of Kinokuniya* (http://bookweb.kinokuniya.co.jp/indexohb.cgi?AREA=03), the Japanese bookstore. They're in the process of closing down the location at Rockefeller Center, but this new location which right across from Bryant Park, is up and running, and very "open". The selection of Japanese books, magazines, craft materials and stationery is still amazing, and they now have a small cafe on the second floor.
*You may need Korean and Japanese language support for these sites to load properly. ;)
-
DR Julie - Hmm... BLT Steak (http://www.bltsteak.com/)... :)
*And the newish BLT Market (http://bltmarket.com/) is quite worth the splurge. The bread service alone is enough of an "excuse" for dining there. ;)
-
I picked up a copy of January's issue of "Vanity Fair" for my reading material on the plane yesterday morning, and actually ended up reading it basically from cover to cover during the flight. The cover story on Katherine Heigl is quite good, and the accompanying photos are stunning and glamorous. And there's also a nice feature on Angie Dickinson. And...
This month's Vanities column had me literally laughing out loud. In the Alternate-Reality Gift Guide, there's a great "review" of "The Criterion Collection release of "High School Musical: The Box Set".
A serendipitous pas de deux at a New Year's Eve ski-trip karaoke contest ignites an inextinguishable romance between a coach's wayward son (the irrepressible Zac Efron) and a bewitching transfer student (the incandescent Vanessa Hudgens)...
A textbook on the art of filmmaking, the High School Musica box set brings together, for the first time, Kenny Ortega's groundbreaking original with his trailblazing sequel. These landmark documents overflow with breathtaking mise-en-scene and trenchant social commentary --collectively forming a daringly anarchic meditation on life, love, high school, musicals and the Cold War.
And among the Special Features:
-Audio commentary from the Disney Channel Marketing team.
-A lock of Zac Efron's hair.
Plus - An essay by Peter Bogdanovich.
-
...And then this month's Vanities Dare (http://www.vanityfair.com/culture/features/2008/01/van_dares200801) feature was the Department-Store-Santa Dare:
One-Point Dares
1. After your child has finished itemizing everything he or she wants for Christmas, press a dollar into Santa’s hand and say, “For your trouble.”
...
3. Rehearse your child so that when Santa asks what the tyke wants, he or she bursts into tears and says, “I just want Mommy and Daddy to be married again!”
4. Using both hands, foist a squirmy toddler upon Santa while saying in an Eastern European peasant accent, “I bake just for you … I bake just for you … ”
...
Three-Point Dares
1. Scrutinize Santa up and down, then ask witheringly, “Why do you have to dress like such a whore?”
...
4. Get on both knees and snort the fake snow.
5. Hold up a copy of Paula Deen’s memoir, It Ain’t All About the Cookin’, and say, “Don’t get me wrong, Santa, I admire you, but you did some bad sh*t to Mrs. Claus.”
Five-Point Dares
....
2. Sidle up to Santa and say conspiratorially, “Hey, I got the stuff.” Then drop a dime bag in his lap.
3. Bow your head, perform a sign of the cross, address Santa as “Father Christmas,” and confess to having impure thoughts about someone within earshot.
...
-
My heart wasn't really into watching more ROB & BIG when I went back down, so I watched the first three BONES episodes from Season 2. Much better entertainment undoubtedly.
-
Then, I did get around to watching the last two episodes of ROB & BIG. In the lasst one, they each bought new cars and had them painted jet black. I guess that makes them "hip" or "rad" or whatever term they use now for "cool."
-
I watched some of the bonus features, too. Some deleted scenes (Rob goes to an acupuncturist to ease the pain in a strained ankle). A tribute to their latest addition to the family - a mini-horse. A tribute to Big's crazy uncle. Sheesh!
-
I watched both LAW & ORDER episodes tonight. The first had Brad Dourif as a guest star.
The show does have a different vibe with the new stars, especially Linus Roache. He isn't the tiger in the courtroom that Waterston's Jack McCoy was. But he seems just as willing to go out on a limb.
-
The second was a much more intriguing case but there wasn't much courtroom material. Roache was in a lot of the episode but not in court. That was shaking up the old routine, too.
-
Tomorrow I'll watch tonight's PROJECT RUNWAY, and I'll get to speed through commercials which will make viewing it more fun.
-
PROJECT RUNWAY SPOILER
Watching them make clothes out of Hershey's stuff, I really got a craving for chocolate, but as luck had it, the only chocolate in the house was the Godiva that Larry brought yesterday. :)
-
Jose - Very interesting stuff. Thanks for the info!
-
You're welcome, DR FJL.
*Oh, and since I didn't have any chocolate, I went ahead and had ice cream instead. ;)
-
I watched the two LAW & ORDER episodes, and now I'm off to sleep.
All in all, the day wasn't too bad.
-
Guess I'll write for a bit now and then head down for bed.
Good night!
-
And speaking of Bravo... I'm currently watching the "Meet the Models" episode of "Make Me A Supermodel" with my roommate, Jim...
There's been some nice eye-candy so far, but it doesn't look like a show either of us will stick with throughout the next couple of weeks. Just seems sort of blah, blah, blah.
-
I made stir fry for dinner :)
-
It was very good.
-
My Grandmother Read murder at Hollywood High and Loved it! She said she wants to go with me to eat at Mel's Diner now because she hasn't had it in ages.
-
Still on page 10, really, I am surprised.
-
But Ron, you just flew from there!
Home is where my HDTV and DVDs are!
;D
-
Still on page 10, really, I am surprised.
I am episcopalian. Really. And on page 10, too!
;)
-
And I'm The Enabler. And this is Page 11. Finally!
-
...And then this month's Vanities Dare (http://www.vanityfair.com/culture/features/2008/01/van_dares200801) feature was the Department-Store-Santa Dare:
That number 3 one...for a five-pointer....is that confession of impure thoughts ABOUT someone within earshot? Or is it a confession of impure thoughts that can be heard by someone within earshot?
-
And I'm The Enabler. And this is Page 11. Finally!
Adrianna will be relieved.
-
It is 9:29 p.m. and I am gearing up for bed.
I'm tired.
"Pwoject Wunway" will have to get comfy in my DVR cache, next to the Jerry Herman special from last night.
-
Hello, Jose!
Brrrr....it's so cold here in Atlanta and it's late, too, but I wanted to check in and at least catch up to yesterday's posts.
-
I'm glad everyone had a splendid new years day. Nice to see T-Punk here!
-
I sure could use a little of Skip's fried chicken right about now.
-
Hello, Amy!
-
I'm working at a new place starting today, and when I wqent there, I found that it was in a complex of buildings. There was not a single sign with their name, anywhere. Not even on their door! What kind of way is that to do business?
They had called an "orientation" meeting for today. I showed up on time, despite the difficulty of finding the place, and there was no meeting and the editing room wasn't even put together yet. (They were getting in the system I like to use so I would agree to work there.) The place seems to be too "cool" for its own good, and apparently they are too busy being cool to clean the place or do much besides playing "Guitar Hero".
-
I enjoyed reading about all of your adventures in Virginia, Jose. Sounds like a wonderful trip!
-
In watching the Times Square new years coverage, I thought it was neat that the confetti at midnight consisted of wishes that people had written on slips of paper at the visitor's center. It made me wonder if people picked them up off the ground to read them or perhaps keep them as souveniers. That would be a good way to help clean up the aftermath!
-
I got the schedule for this job, too, and they have booked me for every day for the next 2 & 1/2 weeks. They didn't tell me I would be working weekends, too. That's pretty unusual to just assume that. But I'm glad to have the work, and it looks like it will be busy into January.
-
Finished viewing a real authentic four-star film - the fact that it was made in the last two years makes that an astonishing feat, but naturally it was not an American film. I'll have much to say in the notes.
-
I could use some Levain right now, too!
-
There was not a single sign with their name, anywhere. Not even on their door! What kind of way is that to do business?
Oh, could I tell you tales about "no name on the door" establishments (from the 50-60s)!

bk, what were the Brain songs you wanted clips from?
-
Oh, could I tell you tales about "no name on the door" establishments (from the 50-60s)!
I didn't know the secret knock.
Or was it a secret tapping of the foot?

Today is Van Dyke Parks' birthday, here on the east coast. And in 2 hours, on the west coast, too!
VDP will be 65, but if there's ever anyone not ready to retire at 65, it would be him. He's like the Energizer Bunny of pop music!

OK, I guess I should wussburger so I can try to be alert tomorrow while watching a billion episodes of TRADING SPACES.
-
Nytol!
-
And George, thanks for the lovely Xmas card!

I got the schedule for this job, too, and they have booked me for every day for the next 2 & 1/2 weeks. They didn't tell me I would be working weekends, too. That's pretty unusual to just assume that. But I'm glad to have the work, and it looks like it will be busy into January.
I suspect that with Ashcroft gone, the Atlanta porn mature-viewer film inductry is booming.

The only thing pornographic going on here is Tyler Perry's House of Payne.
-
Oh, OK. It's not pornographic, just in bad taste.
I can say this because I did not sign the paper saying that I would not make any disparaging remarks about Tyler Perry or his whole family.
My DH, however, cannot say the same, as he DID sign the paper!
-
OK, Nytol again!
-
I didn't know the secret knock.
Or was it a secret tapping of the foot?
It's a "special" look that gained entry.

Note: "foot tapping" was a vice give away!
-
Well, I believe 'tis time for me to say goodnight, so...
Goodnight.

Linus Roche... Jeremy Sisto
Both of whom were in 2006's Series "Kidnapped", which UniversalHD is about to rerun.
