Unfortunately, it seems they're better about enforcing the rule at the box office window than inside the theater itself! :-\

Good morning, all! Yesterday's laundry is now in the washers, and I gotta say, sleeping on the MBarnum memorial air mattress is no fun for an old coot who needs a derrick to lift himself off the floor, This bedbug crap is getting old fast.
Today, a trek to Toyland to deliver a few items and books, then NYPL. After that, back here to deal with more cleaning and to confront the instructions from the exterminators. My neighbor thinks there's a lawsuit with the apartment management for not alerting the other tenants to the situation when it began.

Happy Birthday to DR NOEL.
-
We saw The 39 Steps last night. It was great fun. It's funny and sharp and you don't need to be a Hitchcock afficianado to enjoy the show. There are references throughout to many of the films (some of them groan-inducing) but it doesn't really matter if you miss those references.
One actor plays the Robert Donat role and 3 other actors play everyone else. It's quite a treat to see the quick changes and vocal work, etc. It's a wonderful example of how to do this kind of stripped down theatre. It's similar to something like Reduced Shakespeare. In this one in 90 minutes you get a show and a short lesson in Hitchcock films. I recommend the show. We left with smiles on our faces and we talked about Hitchcock on the subway ride home.
The show is in the renovated newly large Selwyn Theatre (also known as the American Airlines Theatre) but even up in the last row of the balcony we had no trouble seeing or hearing.

Good morning!
We got about a half inch of snow during the early morning hours, but it had switched over to rain by the time I got up. I suspect there won't be much left of it by the end of the day, especially if we get more rain this afternoon which they're predicting.
-
I certainly agree about Leroy Anderson's pieces which I've been in love with when I was first introduced to them through my piano teacher who gave me "The Waltzing Cat" to play at one of my recitals. Later, in junior high school (and later high school), we began to play them in concert band, and I've never heard a single one of his pieces that I didn't instantly love.
-
David Raksin composed "Concerto for Toys" (or a similar title; I'd have to check my recording) for the film GROUNDS FOR MARRIAGE that I have always adored.

TV Reminder:
The penultimate new episode of UGLY BETTY airs tonight.
I will also watch SUPERNATURAL (a rerun from this season, but it'll be new to me).

DR JRand57, my one cent copy of A Short History has also arrived! :D

I doubt I'll get all eight remaining HAWAII FIVE-O episodes watched today, especially if I go out to lunch later. That's still undecided at the moment. However, I hope to be done with it my mid-morning tomorrow. Then, if THIS SPORTING LIFE comes today or tomorrow in the mail, I'll be able to start on that 2-disc set tomorrow afternoon.

Happy Birthday to DR Noel.

No discussions about PROJECT RUNWAY yet which surprises me. Did everyone else DVR (or VCR) it as I did and haven't gotten to it yet? Usually by this time two or three people have weighed in on the results.

Thanks for the theatre report, DR Ben!
Were there any GUY HAINES references last evening?
Good question. There was no overt reference to Mr. Haines, only a line saying "I know we're just Strangers on a Train"

Pwoject Wunway:
S P O I L E R S
Last night's challenge was a bit interesting once I got past the second or third PAIRING UP of designers this season. Usually, that happens once in a season. They seem enamored of it this season, though, and it truly stifles individuals from competing at their highest level.
The concept of teamwork, however, is not lost on me. These folks are going to have to learn to work with teams and the show is as good a place as any to start.
I was surprised (don't know exactly why) that Chris and Kristian got along so very well last night. Chris seems to thrive in a team situation and Kristian not so much. But he got on like gangbusters with Chris and the two of them pulled off the judges' favorite look and they took the prize.
I was a bit put off by/put out with Romi, who was very self-absorbed and rude in his collaboration with Sweet Pea, whose "solo" project (the ready-to-wear outfit) was quite fetching. Romi's dress (and Sweet Pea correctly stated Romi did not welcome her ideas/input) was more of same-old from him. If Kit's dress hadn't been such a misfire, I'd have gladly watched Romi leave the show.
Victoria and Jillian really surprised me, especially Victoria who always seems like a "control freak" but who collaborated very well with Jillian, who is no slouch as a designer. The two of them did very, very well...and I was a bit surprised when the judges selected Chris/Kristian over Victoria/Jillian. I think Nina totally fell in love with that exaggerated collar on the organza dress!
Among the ready-to-wears, I thought Jillian's and Sweet Pea's were the best. I think Kristian was correct, though, to think better of his and Chris' than did Tim who thought it looked a bit cheap. It didn't look cheap at all, and it solidified their win. Jillian literally threw her ready-to-wear together in a couple of hours, practically sewing it onto the model during the fitting as she cut out each piece. It looked really good even if Jillian was dissatisfied with it.
That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

TOD: this may or may not qualify, but Grusin's theme to "Heart is a Lonely Hunter" certainly has classical echoes (probably as an hommage to Mick, the teenager played so brilliantly by Sondra Locke). The tune has been going through my head nonstop since I reviewed the DVD a week or so ago. One of my all-time fave Grusin themes.
-
One of the online dictionaries indicates that today's WOD is obsolete.
Does that mean we've succeeded in ridding the world of stupid people?
-
Speaking of Grusin themes, DR JMK: do you know why the soundtrack to On Golden Pond has never been released on CD?
-
Speaking of Grusin themes, DR JMK: do you know why the soundtrack to On Golden Pond has never been released on CD?
Not quite sure--was the OST LP on GRP? The rights may have been gobbled up when Dave and Larry Rosen sold the label. However, I'm pretty sure that Grusin (like Herb Alpert) retained ownership of all his masters. It seems like a likely candidate for FSM.
HIALH did come out on some import CD--I've had it for years. And Percy Faith's arrangement of that theme is incredibly incredible, with neat little Lydian flourishes at the end of every phrase.
Lydian Flourishes is of course the title of my next novel.

Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And when I got the barbers this morning at 9:15 - they open at 9:00, the three chairs were already filled, and there were three other guys waiting for cuts. Then me. However, the wait wasn't too long, and I got some good magazine reading in. And I was back here at the apartment a little after 10:30. Not too bad.
And now, I'm waiting for my Chris to show up for a bit to "talking shop" and lunch.

We're having a regular German meal of Soured Meat and Kartoffelklosse. One of this family's favorite meals.
I made the soured meat last night, allowing the spices to settle in. Mum continued with the gravy this morning. I have the potatoes mashed and cooling in the fridge. Out of Diet Coke at the mo, but thankfully have some Canada Dry Ginger Ale (diet) here.

Happy Birthday DR Noel.

RE: AMERICAN IDOL
I agree with DR Jose.
To get to perform in front of the judges you need to go through rounds and rounds in front of preliminary judges.
You'd think that they would not tell the bad ones that they are good. But i really suspect that the bad ones are actually encouraged (if not told they are good).
So imagine getting through round after round of auditions and then getting to perform in front of Paula/Randy/Simon. You might also think you were quite decent.
I mean if last year's winner did not even make it in front of Paula/Randy/Simon in her first city (she ended up trying again in another city) then something is SERIOUSLY WRONG WITH THE SYSTEM!
-
Happy Anniversary to DR Ginny and DH Richard!!!!!!!!1

Lordy-B -- Is HHW a happening kind of place today, or what?!
Let's see...
Noel's BD
Last Star Fighter to Seattle
Girl Scout Cookie Sales
Ginny's 27th Anniversary
BK's Faux 40th Anniversary
and Ronnie P's crowning as the King of Porn, I mean, Corn!
Happy Vibes, Congrat Vibes, and Happening Vibes to All ..

Happy Anniversary to Ginny! Had I stayed married, this year would have been my - wait for it - fortieth anniversary. Holy moley on rye!
I remember how surprised I was when you called to say you were getting married-and you did it before Keith & I, even though we were engaged first ;D
-
Some of the works of Michel Legrand seem to fit in this category also.
-
I am still needing an explanation of what a "light" classic is.
If RHAPSODY IN BLUE is light classic, then that is my favorite. So is AN AMERICAN IN PARIS.
-
And this year, in honor of the release of Sweeney Todd, the movie, all Girl Scout cookies will be made from actual Girl Scouts.
;D ;D ;D
-
Happy Anniversary to Ginny! Had I stayed married, this year would have been my - wait for it - fortieth anniversary. Holy moley on rye!
Had I stayed married to DR Music Guy, this would be our 35th year! 33 (kind of 34) ain't too bad though!
-
Hello, everyone!
TOD:
I love classical music. As for "light" classical, how about BENJAMIN BRITTEN'S Young People's Guide to the Orchestra?
I love Britten! Also his Rossini pieces Matinees Musicales and Soirees Musicales. His later light music, like "A Time There Was" ain't light at all!
-
(http://bp0.blogger.com/_lSxy4S7hgW0/R4-ZOfzCGxI/AAAAAAAABWg/qU5PfPSwQmc/s400/clay2.jpg)
-
Noel? hmmmm... Is that pronouced Noel in the Noel Coward way or Noel in the festive, Christmasy way? ..... ;)
-
I don't know from the TOD. Most likely I have some favorite "light" classical music, however, I don't know exactly what is considered "light" classical.
A subtle hint, Mikey: nearly all of the 100-number set of the Boston Pops.
-
I remember how surprised I was when you called to say you were getting married-and you did it before Keith & I, even though we were engaged first ;D
I didn't get the call, but I would have been surprised too...
I'm surprised that he got married at the young, tender age of 20 ... thought you were all busy with your career and all at that stage of the game...
-
Did I miss elmore's list of light classics?
Yep. Page 2.
And more:
Rodgers "Carousel Waltz"
I have a heard time categorizing things I love like "Polovtsian Dances" as light music since they're part of a larger score, in this case PRINCE BORODIN but Weinberger's great "Polka and Fugue from Schwanda" is a piece made from two different moments in the opera.
-
LOL-Age had nothing to do with my surprise.
-
I am still needing an explanation of what a "light" classic is.
If RHAPSODY IN BLUE is light classic, then that is my favorite. So is AN AMERICAN IN PARIS.
That number 10 thud you all heard was me falling down!

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO DR GINNY AND DH RICHARD!
-
Hi, Sis!
-
DR ELmo subtle?! hmmmm ... subtle as a bedbug bite ..
(sorry, a bedbug infestation is nothing to joke about ... but I couldn't help myself ....afterall, this is HHW, where nothing is taboo...)
-
Hi, Sis!
Hiya, SoulSis -- How's your 2008 going?
-
Is that what they mean by the Winter SoulSis?
-
LOL-Age had nothing to do with my surprise.
Ooooh, do tell !!
-
Fred, I, too, send congrats to you for THE LAST STARFIGHTER. Is it that many of us missed the post or are you just being modest? I suspect that many of us here like to hear about the show's evolution and success. Would you please keep us informed?
-
Is that what they mean by the Winter SoulSis?
Yes .. and the Summer SoulSis too ...

I suspect that many of us here like to hear about the show's evolution and success. Would you please keep us informed?

WINTER SOLSTICE is my favorite Rosamunde Pilcher novel.

On the war at home, I postponed the exterminator to Tuesday morning once I saw the things to be done: the bed frame is in pieces, and I'm preparing to cart books which I will be vacuuming before putting into cartons out into the hallway of my floor. I've warned the neighbors and apologized for the temporary mess.
The exterminator's paper says a haird dryer on high is good for killing eggs and larvae on a mattress I will go down to Price-Wise and buy a $20 one. Tomorrow morning I'll inundate the bed frame with this Spraywat "Good Night." I feel organized and prepared for the battle but i's a huge ordeal and I'm crabby about it.
-
In the new issue of FILMS OF THE GOLDEN AGE there is an interview with 1920s/1930s actress Miriam Seegar who is alive and well at age 100...in her interview she mentions going to visit her two sisters at their apartment in NYC's upper westside, and that they had a bedbug infestation at the time.
-
After watching PERSUASION, Masterpiece Theater’s version, I decided to re-read each of the novels to be shown. Someone needs to explain to Keith what is going on. ;D
I agree it needed at least another 15 minutes and moved too quickly, as if they were trying to fit as much as possible in the time permitted. At one point Keith commented he felt Ann would look better with a different hair style. I said not to worry, as the story progresses she will begin to bloom. I won’t be giving him tips like that again.
-
Elmore, I suggest testing a few dryer before purchasing one. All hand held dryers are not equal, some are hotter than others. Cheap dryers often blow faster and hotter than a more expensive one, so you may be lucky.
-
DR elmore-Regarding the exterminator. If you do your place, and the neighbor's still have bugs, won't they simply move back in?
-
Noel? hmmmm... Is that pronouced Noel in the Noel Coward way or Noel in the festive, Christmasy way? ..... ;)
The "e" is silent, like the "snark" in Karen.
-
Bryan's will be flying home from Chicago today, and no Ron-you will not be getting updates.;) While in Chicago, another MD school there invited him for an interview in February. If only they would see him now.

The "e" is silent, like the "snark" in Karen.

But if there's a delay?

Ah, DR Ron Pulliam, you have but to meet DR Miss Karen in person to know that she's the sweetest thing alive.
-
If you insist, I can oblige you. ;D

Happy Birthday Noel!!
I hope you have a wonderful day full of freinds and surprises!

Vibes to Elmore on the continuing bug saga!

Okay, SinBad, what do you want?

(Flattery works every time, you charmer, you ...)

Come on, DR Jane, spill the beans -- Why were you surprised bk was getting marrired?

DR Miss Karen....you know my PayPal account...
;)
-
DR elmore-Regarding the exterminator. If you do your place, and the neighbor's still have bugs, won't they simply move back in?
Hopefully, not if I keep the place vacuumed and the pest control conditions going.
-
At least it's not a crab infestation that you are bedbuggy about!
:)
I'd simply call you for advice. :)
-
Miss Karen- ;D
-
Happy Anniversary to Ginny and Robert!
-
Like the pages flying by in bk's new novel, so fly the pages of HHW...
-
I also microwaved my first book today for 90 seconds. I put it into a plastic bag and nuked it. When I took it out of the microwave, the covers were extremely hot but the inside pages were cool.
-
Hopefully, not if I keep the place vacuumed and the pest control conditions going.
Will all the apartments in the building be exterminating for bugs soon?
NO BEDBUG VIBES!!!!

I can't imagine you nuking every book in your place. While difficult, it seems it would be easier to just get large garbage bags & bag the books for a month.

They are predicting windchills of up to -50 tomorrow... Anyone want to come and visit?

Well, I'll go run some errands while DR Jane is being coy -- and check back later to see if she gives up the goods...
-
No Dakota!-LOL. I feel somewhat guilty stating I'm going to go enjoy the sunshine for awhile.

Happy Anniversary to our Ginny and Richard!

Oh, my, the Gateway saga just gets sillier and sillier. The hard drive arrived today. That seems to be OK. It's been installed but we haven't turned it on yet because it's blank and we have to re-install Windows XP. The memory also came this morning. The hard drive was very easy to install. The memory was a problem. Anthony was on the phone with tech support for over a half hour before it was determined that the wrong memory cards were sent and that's why they wouldn't fit. They are too big for my computer. It's obvious when you look at the specs for our system what the memory cards should be. Whoever looked up the order didn't look at the specs and sent the wrong ones. We had two cards totaling 1 gig of memory. The cards came in one small box inside one envelope from Fed Ex. We are returning the memory cards BUT we have to return them separately. Even though the box in which they came is made to hold two memory cards we have to return each one separately in different envelopes. We have two separate return authorization numbers, one for each module. We will return them after I leave work this afternoon and then we will spend the evening reinstalling Windows. We are taking one more chance and have re-ordered the correct memory modules and they are scheduled to be here either tomorrow afternoon or sometime Saturday at no extra charge (just the exorbitant normal shipping charge). I wrote a stern letter to be placed in both return envelopes expressing my dismay at the level of incompetence on Gateway's part (not that it will do much good). I also said in the letter that if I receive the new memory cards and they are still the wrong ones or if the hard drive doesn't work I will call the Better Business Bureau, return the defective merchandise and end my relationship with Gateway.
I know I could have bought a new computer by this time but we decided to upgrade this one and take it out to LI for Anthony's mother. We still want to do that (once the computer is up and running it is not a problem, it's been a good system for 4 years) so before we buy a new one we want to make sure this one is running properly. I just never thought it would turn into such a headache!!!
End of story (for now - an Avenue Q reference).

Of course, one would only have to refer to one of DR Ron Pulliam's corny joke frenzy extravaganzas to know who's the King of Corn. :)
I don't know, but whoever he is, there's a movie about him:

Will all the apartments in the building be exterminating for bugs soon?
No. For several reasons:
1. I have no idea how many apartments are infested
2. The landlord's not busting his ass over fixing this; they haven't even notified the tenants there's a problem in the building
3. The treatments don't seem to be working so it may become a constant tenant-bug battle
-
I can't imagine you nuking every book in your place. While difficult, it seems it would be easier to just get large garbage bags & bag the books for a month.
I wanted to see what would happen and if it were possible without damaging a book.

Back from lunch with the seminarians and a trip to the campus bookstore with Richard. We bought each other's anniversary presents: I gave him a Nashotah House signet ring and he gave me a NH hooded sweatshirt and Jan Karon's Mitford Cookbook and Kitchen Reader. One of his classmates sang us an anniversary song.
Thanks for the wishes from DRs FJL, td, BK, Jennifer, MissKaren, Jeanne, DakotaCelt, and Ben.

Take care, DAKOTA, in the cold!
-
Sort of. Did we see a show?
DR Elmore, I don't think we saw a show together on that trip. Richard and I saw Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Barbara Cook at the Met, and Rent. We did have our last Barrymore's meal on that trip :'( and a delightful dinner at Artie's with DR FJL before the Barbara Cook event.

Your landlord isn't very nice. Do you plan to let the rest of the tenants know about the problem, or has someone else begun the task?
I hope you are wrong and this problem can be solved, for good.

It all comes back. I am a bit preoccupied. Happy Anniversary. Tell Richard howdy.

Dakota, is that -50 degrees with or without the wind chill? The coldest I've been in is -40, with the wind chill. I spent two hours hiking in it & there wasn't one spec of my skin visible after layering clothes for half an hour. I really feel for you.

Thanks, DR Elmore! Richard's a bit preoccupied this week, too, but Miss Weinberger would be very proud to hear him chanting.
-
Elmore, how long ago was the landlord alerted to this problem? I can imagine how angry folks are for not having been warned & possibly preventing the spread of these horrible pests. At the least it wouldn't have been so bad.

As I predicted, the snow is almost all gone. But it is BITTER cold outside, so I'm glad I'm INSIDE and likely to remain so (except when taking out the garbage tonight.)
-
I watched more HAWAII FIVE-O episodes (though not as many as I would have liked). Among the guest stars were Tim O'Connor, Michael Anderson, Jr. and, in the last one I watched, Paul Burke.
-
The one with Tim O'Connor was my favorite one of the season thus far. It was done as a caper film with a group of bandits planning a jewel heist and all of their elaborate preparations ahead of time. Really unusual stuff for an hour TV drama of 1971. I was impressed with how much they were able to squeeze into the 49 minutes of air time.
-
I ended the afternoon watching last night's RENO 911! Some funny stuff
especially the vignettes with Trudy trying to sell her baby to a series of different couples.
-
Didn't get to PROJECT RUNWAY yet or today's AS THE WORLD TURNS. Maybe later if I can cut my on-line time down this afternoon. We'll see.

Guess I'll have to go to the source...
Question for bk: Why was DR Jane surprised when you called to tell her you were getting married 40 years ago?
Maybe she thought I wasn't the marrying kind? Maybe she knew more than I that I didn't really care for the gal I was about to wed?
-
I've written about five pages so far - will definitely write a couple more before I leave, but I'm hoping someone can tell me if I should go see this film - I'm really thinking I might not go, unless there's some compelling reason to see it.

The Girl Scout Cookie quote is from THE ADDAMS FAMILY.
DR Jose! I love Matthew Morrison, too! ;)

Viggo used to be on Search for Tomorrow

Assuming everything works out with everyone's schedules, it's now looking like our Seattle schedule for THE LAST STARFIGHTER will start after tax season after all, so my worries about my not being able to be fully available during the process are gone. I may still have to fly back and forth one extra time for work reasons, but being after tax season will make it even easier for me to be available at pretty much all hours. And of course Skip will be out there for the entire two weeks, with no interruptions.
Ahhh, I know my brain has been fuzzy for the last six weeks (okay, more than that), but what Seattle schedule for THE LAST STARFIGHTER? Is Village doing the show?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DR NOEL!

TCB, to repeat what i wrote way above: I'm not sure what they're calling it (maybe it's officially labeled a workshop?), but it will be a chance to try a few things we've wanted to try since NYMF and see how they work in front of an audience, with some flexibility of changing things from one day to the next. The rehearsal rules at NYMF didn't allow us to try new things once we opened.

T.O.D.
One of the hundreds of LPs that I got from Columbia Record Club back in the 60s (most of them ordered beause I forgot to return that stupid card), was an LP that contained WARSAW CONCERTO, AMERICAN IN PARIS, RHAPSODY IN BLUE, SLAUGHTER ON TENTH AVENUE, and one other piece. I loved that LP. I have no idea who the artists were on the two-LP set, but it was fantastic.

No, crabby would be a different problem.

Ah, DR Ron Pulliam, you have but to meet DR Miss Karen in person to know that she's the sweetest thing alive.

I also microwaved my first book today for 90 seconds. I put it into a plastic bag and nuked it. When I took it out of the microwave, the covers were extremely hot but the inside pages were cool.
Did you use a honey - cranberry glase?

DR Edisaurus - would that make DR Ron Pulliam's progeny the CHILDREN OF THE CORN?
No, more like a Shirley Temple movie: THE LITTLE KERNEL.

Don't be surprised if you get a note back from Gateway telling you that you wrote your complaint letter upside down!

Hee hee hee. Actually, DR RonPulliam, I had a whole discussion about crabs vs bedbugs on Tuesday. At this point in my life I'm pretty certain I have no reason to worry about the former. To quote Cole Porter, I sleep easier now.
DR Nursie, I have no idea when the first alert to the landlord occurred. We believe it all began in 5A, but who knows at this point? We should have been alerted by the time the second alarm went off.

I picked up some mail at the mail place and am now going to write two more pages. I did peruse the imdb about Sean Penn's film and after reading the first fifteen ten star reviews, clearly written by young teens and aging hippies, I have to say it sounds like a film I will not like, especially at 140 minutes, so I'm not going to go.

LOL Dakota. Keith almost moved us to Minneapolis when Craig was a baby. Lucky for me our house didn't sell. I found out how cold it was there & realized I didn't want to move. Keith asked to decline the transfer, which the company willingly agreed to.

And with that I am officially back in the world of computers at home!
Hoo and Ray.
Part 1 of the saga is over. Now we just need to get the memory tomorrow or Saturday, install it and make sure it's recognized and we will be halfway home (I still need to buy a new computer so we can take this one out to LI).
The installation of the hard drive was surprisingly painless as was the re-installation of Windows XP. I didn't have to talk to Microsoft at all (I guess the software recognized my internal workings) although when I reinstalled Word I did have to activate it. Small price to pay to get things working.
Now that we're on the road again tomorrow and Saturday will be spent tweaking my puter back to the way it was before January 5th (a date that will live in infamy, at least for me).
Anthony is also very happy that we are up and running again. He's got a possible crafting job which may be available for you all to see on-line. Cross your fingers!

In breaking news, the DGA has ended its five-day negotiations with the producers and, pending ratification, we have a new contract. The DGA is a role model for how an entertainment union should handle negotiations - others should learn from them, but they don't. They just love the drama and the posturing too much. The DGA normally starts its negotiations eight months ahead of the contract expiration - other unions wait until the last possible minute, which is, to my mind, ignorant and insufferable. This time, out of respect to the WGA, they didn't begin them last October as they wanted to - they waited until the most recent talks broke down, with both sides refusing to go back to the table. And, five days later, we have a contract - with excellent pay and residual increases, jusrisdiction over Internet programming for the first time in history, and the groundwork and more than decent residuals package for the new electronic media distribution.
I think it's pretty obvious that the handwriting is on the wall for the WGA, and I'm pretty certain they will follow suit and settle for similar terms. If they don't, it's not going to be pretty, but this has happened before and them following suit has usually been the result.
-
The cookies will be in sometime the beginning of March.....

The DGA, for those who are interested, has only struck once in its entire history (I served on the committee) - and that strike lasted fifteen minutes.

I explained it to Kerry, DR Vixmom.
When you order a sandwich at the sandwich shop, they ask your name, and then they call your name when the order is ready. Sandra uses a different name each time she places an order. Lately she has been using "old lady" names: Agnes, Edwina, etc. And there are so many great old lady names, but she can only eat so many sandwiches.
It all makes perfect sense in context.

Thank you Vixmom. Several hours ago there was mention of a free flight, until they sort of set a departure time & gave him a coupon for a slice of pizza. Last we spoke the time was changed again & he hopped into a line with a different ticket person. The one that he had was on the grumpy side & the people in the line next to him (the one he got into last we spoke) received more valuable coupons.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, GINNY & RICHARD!
In a completely unrelated (well, not really, if you think about it) train of thought, I am planning my next Pacific Pops Choir concert (I have to do these about 6 months out so that I have enough time to arrange and chart). I think our theme will be "We Are Family", and our concert closer will be that great Sister Sledge tune, but I need suggestions for other pops-choir friendly songs with some kind of family lyric connection I could arrange. So far, I've thought of "He's Not Heavy, He's My Brother," "All Kinds of People," etc. Suggestions welcome!
Speaking of which, I'm off to direct Pacific Pops.

No free ticket. They put him on a different flight that left a couple of minutes ago. Change in the vibe plan. The ETA is 10:33 & the flight from Seattle is scheduled to leave at 11:00.
Catching the 11:00 flight vibes for our DS Bryan!

Good Evening!
Whew! But that's a good "Whew!".
:)
It's been a good day. I had a great lunch with my friend, Chris. We had a great time catching up on each other's holiday happenings - he went to London for a couple of days with his partner and their son. They saw a couple of shows, including Dirty Dancing. ;)
After lunch, I headed on downtown to meet up with my friend, Carl. Then we headed back uptown and spent a few hours at MoMA... A burger and fries as Burger Joint... Window shopping at Takashimaya... Some browsing at Lee's Art Shop - they still had a bunch of holiday decor on clearance... A walk through the Time-Warner Center with a stop at Bouchon for a bouchon and an Eggnog French macaroon (YUM!)... Then Carl headed to The Broadway Theatre to see The Color Purple, and I headed on home.
Whew!

Just finished watching "The Celebrity Apprentice"... And had a real good laugh - One of the teams had to head to a printing facility from Trump Tower. Well, they didn't name the place in question, but it was obviously a Kinko's. And from what I could tell it was the Kinko's right off of Columbus Circle. Of course, the Trump Tower they're using for "The Apprentice" is right at Columbus Circle - directly opposite the Kinko's. A two minute walk, max - probably more like 30 seconds. But, of course, they drove there. :P

After the endless WGA strike, I do not see any way that SAG/AFTRA will have the chutzpah to strike. The DGA's terms are going to be all these other unions are going to get, so there's no point in even negotiating anymore. It's also important to state that in the agreement the DGA did not agree to one rollback.
-
That's funny! Did the show producers edit the scene so that the TV audience thought that they were actually driving a long distance?
Yep. And there was even some comment about giving the work to some "guy" who was going to help them out in a bind during the overnight hours. Well, since Kinko's is open 24 hours... ::)

I began my evening by watching PROJECT RUNWAY. I had no problem with the person sent home, but I had some serious reservations about the show.
1. How many times did Tim Gunn interrupt them when they were trying to complete the project only to dump more stuff on them or distract them from the VERY difficult double assignbment they had been given? I really felt bad for all of them with these interruptions.
2. I DESPISE team competitions. I feel it's totally unfair to one or the other team members, and though the winners of the challenge were acceptable, only one got immunity which seems unfair. It took them both working and agreeing on the designs to turn out two garments.
3. How has Sweet Pea stayed around so long? I did kind of like her dress, but she's a tremendous energy drain on everyone with her emotions. DUMP HER! And I felt bad for Rhani being stuck with her.

I skimmed through AS THE WORLD TURNS quickly. Nothing there today and nothing in the previews for tomorrow.
-
I watched three more HAWAII FIVE-O episodes. Hope Summers was the guest star in one of them playing a very feisty old lady being held hostage. Nice showcase for James MacArthur.
-
Another of the episodes (a two part episode) guest starred John McMartin. This must have been right before he went into FOLLIES.
-
There is one two-part episode left for me to watch which I should be able to do tomorrow morning. I believe Helen Hayes is the guest star in the two-parter. Wonder if she plays Danno's mother?
-
The SUPERNATURAL rerun tonight was another very gripping episode with a very unique ghost claiming the lives of some bad people. And boy did Jensen Ackles look handsome in that tux!
-
I finished my evening with tonight's UGLY BETTY (recorded at 8 but watched at 10). A very hyper episode, but I was happy with the trial stuff, and Gio certainly was more agreeable in this episode.
-
Once again, the Criterion DVDs did not come today, but I got another from Paramoount, a movie called BLACKOUT.
-
Off to bed now.
Good night!

You know, Vixmom, I used to think you were one of the normal people here (relatively speaking). ;D Actually, Family of Man is a great idea--thanks!
James MacArthur gives a very poignant performance in the 1958 Studio One drama Tongues of Angels with Frances Farmer.

I thought vixmom was one of the normal ones..... Not sure about some of the others, JMK :)
-
However, sanity is a word best not defined on HHW! :) The froopy loopiness of HHW is hip!
-
OK... Time for me to catch a couple of Zs....
Goodnight.
-
I'm finished with my viewing this evening.
-
Have I mentioned that I'm finished with my viewing for this evening?
-
I am contemplating sleep... It is 2 am here...
