Well, you've read the notes, the notes had an opening, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're just looking for a third opening.
-
And the word of the day is: HARPY!
-
Welcome ten GUESTS. At least I'm not the ONLY one who's up at this hour.
-
Make that sixteen GUESTS. Let's have a pajama party!
-
I gotta tell you.
-
Make that seventeen GUESTS. Who ARE you people?
-
Good monring! I am the first after bk!
TOD: Peter Maxwell Davies: VESALII ICONES (but checking to see if it was enabled me to find that EIGHT SONGS FOR A MAD KING *is* out on CD.
Many Calypso records...

Good morning!!! Since it is very foggy and rainy, I decided not to do the birdwalk. I know, the birds still have to be there but cold and foggy just doesn't suit me. There is apparently a waiting list for the tour, so I'm donating my ticket to someone who is dying to go on the walk
-
Very generous of you with the tickets already, DR CILLA LIZ!!! And you must report on those who took the DJ Boat Ride.....be sure to ask them how they liked it.
-
Good news about the final preview, and of course broken legs for the cast/crew/band for THE BRAIN FROM PLANET X....it is indeed a gala day.
-
And a gala day is enough for any man. Groucho Marx.
-
When we do this TOD, I usually find out that one LP or another is actually available on CD....but here we go:
Soundtracks to Susan Slade and Youngblood Hawke....some interesting music by Mr Max Steiner that I have always enjoyed. I am not sure either was ever released on LP - even.
-
Hoping DD Sherlock feels better today!
And DR Edisaurus is back!!! Yea!! :)
And my dance card reading list is quickly filling up, thanks to all the lovely recommendations from all the DRs!
Lovely photos from last night's mini-HHW reunion! :D
-
Good morning, all! I have a day at Toyland and some Brain surgery. Following my labors, I have a lovely evening chez Fred & Skip with a bunch of lovely friends.
I see in the online credits for the Chance Theatre production that there is strangely no credit for an orchestrator. I don't know if that's because they weren't ever planning to use a band or another oversight, but I do hope the information is in the program for the show.
Break a leg tonight!

I checked with the Edison. Looks like I can check in a little early. Think I'll head up there before too long. I can always check a bag with the valet. I'm definitely eating at the Edison Cafe for lunch today. I love the soup there

Happy Derby Day!

I bet my cousin, the 19th Earl of Derby is there!

Off to work. Everyone have a GREAT First Saturday in May!

Off to work. Everyone have a GREAT First Saturday in May!
You, too, DR JRand57!
-
Saturday morning greetings! It's a work day for me - all information-waitressing. It has also dawned on me that May is the first month of 2008 in which I will work more than one Saturday - and this month I have 3 :P. But, I'm having to start building my vacation hours back up for a late summer long weekend in NYC and 2 vacations in October for family milestone events (my cousin's wedding in GA and Richard's graduation in WI).

Opening night vibes for The Brain3!!!

I have finally figured out that I am getting older and my memory isn't what it used to be.
There is a term that is on the tip of my tongue and for the life of me I can't get it out.
I was in Barnes & Noble last night and saw that they had the double feature of the Phibes movies with Vincent Price and told my friend that these were bad movies but I loved them.
So what do you call that? Bad movies you like and that you can keep watching them over and over again because you enjoy them so much?
Thanks.
PS I am out of town and will try to check back later on this.
It's driving me nuts that I can't remember this.
-
Happy Derby Day!
I doff my hat to you.
-
OF COURSE IT HAD TO HAPPEN
As soon as I posted by querry it came to me. Only took ten hours to pop back into my head.
The term I was looking for was "guilty pleasure"
thanks any ways
-
Ha---I was just going to type "guilty pleasure"! Oh well...
And the word someone (Brian?) was looking for the other day for a song that gets stuck in your head, but one you don't WANT to be stuck in your head---I've heard it called an "earworm".
-
Wasn't that in a song: "She could whirl the Earl of Derby out of whirl"
(almost a Sound of Music reference)
-
Strange, I felt older yesterday, but now seem to have mentally reverted to my age of two days ago.
-
Maybe it's the fun of knowing HHW-ers will be here.
-
FACADE (Russell Oberlin, Hermione Gingold on Decca)
The Sitwell-Walton FACADE? I love that.
My step-mother always pronounced façade it with a hard "c" and a long "a"...most unseemly, but it always made us laugh and we never corrected her. Now my DH and I prounce it that way, as an inside joke. I'm always expecting that one day I'll mispronounce it out of habit and look really ignunt.
-
I'm off to the heirloom plant sale. (Instead of planting the ones that have been patiently waiting!)
-
Well, time to pack up and head to midtown. Woo and Hoo. There's just too much construction in Downtown to have wandering around be very enjoyable. See you from the Edison
-
Too funny, I left the Downtown Marriott, took a taxi to midtown. The taxi driver kind of freaked because a road was closed so I got out and walked the last 2 blocks, got into the hotel, discovered they had a room, came to the room, unpacked a little got onto the wireless and no one has posted in the meantime
-
For being "the only room" they had available for early check in, I must say it's a nice room. Good sized for a single. I am very comfortable and happy to be in Midtown rather than Downtown
-
And as much as I like my friend Pam, I'm very happy to have my own room again. Living alone has really spoiled me.
Ok, Time to head out. I need to get DR Samantha her birthday gift (It's May 10), and I know just what she wants.
Then the Edison for lunch. Woo Hoo I'm in Midtown.....
-
Good morning!
A very lovely day out so far. Thunderstorms are predicted for tonight, but looks like the day will be just fine. Alas, I'll be spending most of it indoors.
-
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And I'm still sleepy...
-
Good wishes and lots of broken legs to the cast and crew of THE BRAIN FROM PLANET X. I'm sure your opening will be spectacular.
-
I agree with you, BK, entirely on "Points on Jazz". This has always been one of my favorite LPs.
I also wish that more of the Al Carmines musicals would make it to CD. PEACE, IN CIRCLES, JOAN et. al. really deserve a CD release. Considering how critically aclaimed and how popular the late Rev. Carmines was during his brief composing career from the late 60s to the mid 70s, very few people toay even remember him.
-
I still have THE OFFICE and 30 ROCK to watch from Thursday night. I'm looking forward to seeing both of them, and will watch them while eating lunch.
-
Today I'll be starting on a Comedy Central series I've never seen: DRAWN TOGETHER. This is the third season box set of the show. Looks to be out there like all of their animated series, but it should be fun to watch.
-
Thanks to the lovely DR Elmore and bk, one of my answers to the LP not on CD question has been rectified - the soundtrack to PORGY AND BESS which I received a couple of months ago and have enjoyed several times since receiving it. I never would have thought to look on Ebay if not for their suggestions.
Now, all I have left is STARS OF THE SILVER SCREEN, an RCA LP featuring original vocals of movie songs sung by the likes of Fannie Brice, Everett Marshall, John Boles, Bebe Daniels, Gloria Swanson, Helen Kane, George Jessel, Charles King, etc. These are not soundtrack recordings but rather studio versions of songs the stars sung in movies from 1929-1930. I finally transferred my scratchy LP to audiotape so I could listen to it without making the LP sound any worse than it already does. Still wish RCA would transfer this to CD.
-
Good morning all.
We had a wonderful time with Priscilla last night. Dinner, conversation, red velvet cake. What more could we want? And today we get to join other HHWs in another glorious meal prepared by Master Chef Skip. I'm salivating!!!
It's gloomy outside but we're happy inside.
Anthony is going to dance class and I'm going shopping then I will come home and ride the bike (in anticipation of a good meal) and then we will come home and watch something (I don't know what) before retiring to the bed chambers.

Hmm... I believe the Oberlin/Gingold "Façade" was on CD early on. In fact, I think that may be recording I have of it. I'll double-check my shelves, but I think that recording even garnered a couple of Rosettes from the Penguin Guide.
I'm also very fond of the three songs that Walton extracted/adapted from the suites. Dame Kiri Te Kanawa has recorded them, but I first fell in love with them when I heard Pamela Armstrong sing them on one of her undergrad recitals when I was in college.
-
Hmm... Just checking online for the Oberlin/Gingold "Façade", and I don't see a listing for a CD release of it. -I still have to check my shelves. However, I'm wondering if I just think I had it, when, in fact, I had just listened to that recording at the school library on LP. Hmm...

Heading down now to check the mail and then get lunch started.

I'm up, I'm up. elmore can rest easy, his orchestrator credit is in the program. They didn't have it, but I made them aware that it had to appear there along with Larry Goldberg's vocal arrangement credit.

I used to listen to and LOVE a three volume LP set, DUETS WITH THE SPANISH GUITAR. Laurindo Almeida on guitar and Salli Terri did the vocals. I did eventually find a CD of it, but it was a single CD and much was deleted. That was a real shame. Of course, I do still have my turntable, albeit in storage. I just don't play the LPs anymore.

Very best for opening night, Bruce!

OPENING NIGHT VIBES FOR THE BRAIN!!![/size]

DR elmore, thank you for the suggestions.
My dilemma is, I need to choose an author. I’m not sure I can be picky about the exact choice of novel. I think I’m going to push that minor detail. If it were up to me, I would choose a Dickens novel I haven’t read. ;D
I have added all the suggestions to my LONG list of “books to read”.

Good Afternoon!
Back from the gym... Surprisingly, it wasn't that busy today. The few times I've gone on the weekends, it's been a bit crowded, but today was nice and "roomy". It was also nice to see the staff finally checking all the treadmills and other machines to make sure all their features work (properly). -Of course, the incline buttons on the treadmill I was on were not working today, but that was okay since I was doing an interval run today.

I found out yesterday that my aunt's 60th birthday party is the same night as the Survivor finale (next sunday! :(
Of course she doesn't care about such things. But i do! Hopefully i can make it home by 9pm and catch up!
-
Your aunt is 60?
I suddenly feel so old. :)
-
My sister and her husband went out last night. So it was just me and my 2 1/2 yr old niece.
She really is something. She is so talkative and inquisitive. It seems crazy for her age.
Anyhow i brought over some supplies so we could work on a mother's day card for my sister (she really loves scrapbooking and making cards).
So she really did the card herself. She pulled off all the stickers and put them where she wanted them. The only thing i did was spell happy mother's day. But she placed all the letters on the page.
When she was almost done she decided she wanted to draw on the card with a gel pen. I looked everywhere in my sister's computer/scrapbooking room but could not find them.
So megan decides that she will help me find them. She walks to the kitchen and goes to look on the table with the bread. And guess what? there is one gel pen there. She grabs it. ANd is so proud of herself, "i found it auntie, i found it". ANd she proceeded to finish the card.
-
That means you'll have to fly into Atlanta (unless you're driving...).
So, if'n you want to spend some time in the Big City... :)
DR Edi (welcome back, BTW - I missed you!) - I'm leaning towards driving and will have at least one elderly relative with me (my mother). Plans are still very uncertain, but I'll keep you posted.
-
Second part of the story.
So the card is in the envelope and she is trying to decide where to put it.
I ask her if she has any ideas. And she says "i don't know what my ideas are."
Then she walks down the stairs to the front door and proceeds to try to shove it through the mail slot. :)
She wanted to put it in the mail. But i told her that if she did that the mailman would take it away. She did not like that idea.
I asked if she wanted to put it at the bottom of her dress-up box. "no i do not like that idea". I asked if ehs wanted to put it in a drawer. nope she didn't like that. I asked if she wanted to put in in her room Nope.
She did not want me to take it. But when i asked if i should keep it in my purse. She accepted that.
Only thing is when she got up this morning she forgot she let me take it and was apparently looking for it!
Oh and last night 2 minutes after she made the card she told her mom on the phone that she made a card for her! I told her it was a secret. So she whispered for the next few minutes!
:)
-
Oh and when i saw her this morning i had a different purse. She was not pleased. :)

Had a good time at the estate sales...well, the first one anyway...it was in a 50s ranch style house crammed with stuff...I bought several LPs @ $1 each, an old late 60s Barbie and dress (for $1), a round, red 1950s couch pillow for $5. I will go back first thing tomorrow when things are 1/2 price.
The second estate sale was in a grand old Victorian home...but all of the items were newer and overpriced. The house was neat, however, even if it was painted in some wild colors.

At least you do not have anxious wildlife to whom Attention Must Be Paid!
A rather worried Cardinal was peeing peering into the bedroom window; after I refilled the feeders he was joined by a Blue Jay and a Brown Thrasher. The Black Grackles were soon in evidence and a tufted tit-mouse joined the party.
Since the sun was not yet high, I did some spring planting:
Tomatoes - 3 varieties
Jalapeno Peppers
Oregano
Thyme
All joined the Chives and Mint which came up from last year's plantings.

Finally back and back online after a total Time Warner Cable Modem Meltdown. I got home at twelve and could see the modem was frozen, with just two lights on. I called, and they assured me there were no outages anywhere. They've said that before and it's turned out NOT to be the case, but we did all the stuff that we were supposed to do and still nothing. They set up an appointment for someone to come here, but the earliest was Tuesday. I threw a little hissy fit about THAT. Then the guy I was talking to said it sounded like my modem might be jammed or fried and he suggested I go to a Time Warner place and swap it out. I went to the one in Van Nuys, did said swapping out, and it now seems that my other modem must have indeed been fried - unless there WAS an outage and it's now fixed. In any case, I have the newest cable modem, so I suppose that's good.

We had a wonderful time with Priscilla last night. Dinner, conversation, red velvet cake. What more could we want?
A picture of the red velvet cake, perhaps?

I was really concerned I wouldn't be able to get online here and that I'd have to go elsewhere to be online. Thank goodness it happened on Saturday day when the Time Warner store was still open.

I had a nice afternoon of viewing.
I began with Thursday's 30 ROCK. Hilarious from beginning to end, the best show since they've come back from the strike.
I wish they'd let Liz's Cleveland boy friend come back to live in NYC. They make a funny comedy team.
-
THE OFFICE was also hilarious, another winner from the show. Toby's jealousy is sad but also endearing.
-
Then I watched four episodes of the COmedy CEntral show DRAWN TOGETHER. It's raunchy and out there, of course, typical of their animated stuff. Not unfunny, but wildly uneven.
I have three more episodes to go.
-
I also took a half hour nap. I must have needed it.
-
DR Jennifer, cute niece story. Just wait until she is three. IMHO, just about the cutest age ever.
-
DR Cilla-Thanks for the play review.

I shall now be on my way to a light repast and then an opening night and gala reception, after which I shall return with a full report.

Today I have written and exhanged e-mails with a girl I dated in high school, who is now a doctor; and my best friend from high school and college, who is now living down in Edi's area in Dallas, Georgia. Ah yes, can my 40 year, high school reunion really be this summer?

Today I have written and exhanged e-mails with a girl I dated in high school, who is now a doctor; and my best friend from high school and college, who is now living down in Edi's area in Dallas, Georgia. Ah yes, can my 40 year, high school reunion really be this summer?
How fun. Do you think you will be able to go?
-
td, did you click on that photo before transferring the image? :o :o :o
If you didn't, don't go do it now :P
-
I went to a one room schoolhouse when I was five. I wish I had stayed a few more years before going into public school. I remember the class room & I remember the yard & bobbing for apples.

. . .the schoolhouse hasn't changed one bit!
Yes, but I wonder if Miss Ingalls is still teaching?
-
Another fantastic meal from Mr Skip Kennon: a wondeful salad, beautiful roast beef, a tasty quiche, and some really good focaccia. For dessert, a tasty lemon pie - I'm sure there's some wonderful French term for it - with a crust made of crushed almonds. The company was okay.
Actually, the company was a gathering of some of my favorite New Yorkers and visitors: DRS cillaliz, Julie, Ben and Ant, the fantastic Jose, Skip, FJL. and a friend of theirs from All That Chat, scottsimms. Joking again! I believe her name is Lois (I'm getting old) and I do remember that she's originally from Brooklyn, now living in San Francisco, and she just saw GONE WITH THE WIND in London. I enjoyed meeting her very much and I like having a face to put to her name when I next see her on All That Chat.
The conversation was quite lively and Dylan and Toby could hardly get a word in. I was just happy to be in the presence of so many interesting and intelligent folk.

Not with me. . . . :'(
Shame on your mind!

For Dear Reader Laura. Just pretend that this was served in New York last night.

I haven't decided if I want to go or not.

It was very similar to that in Tacoma, except we bobbed for French fries.

...Ah yes, can my 40 year, high school reunion really be this summer?
It's my 40th anniversary, too, DR TCB, but I haven't heard anything about a reunion.
-
Just looked at and tasted the yummy Godiva chocolates - thanks, Larry!!!
-
Yum. Thanks for the photo, TCB.

Well, last I heard our class hadn't gotten very far in planning one for us either. Last time I asked someone, they asked me if I wanted to be the committee.
-
Yum. Thanks for the photo, TCB.
My pleasure, Laura.
-
I received a notice for my class reunion. I decided I didn't really care what any of them were doing. That, and I couldn't lose forty pounds in time.
-
Has anyone else heard about the MagicJack (don't go there, Fred)?
-
Good Evening!
Many, many Thanks and Kudos to Fred and Skip for hosting such a wonderful gathering and cooking such a wonderful meal. I believe the dessert in question was a Lemon-Almonf Financier, but I'll leave that up to DR FJL to clarify with Skip - in any case - and in any language - it was delicious.
It was also great getting to see DRs Ben and Ant, Cillaliz, Julie, elmore and Lois from All That Chat. Oh, and, of course, Dylan and Toby - such good boys!
-
...And once I find my card-reader for my camera, I shall post a pic or two from tonight's gathering.

Sounds like it was an elegent evening. Gee, I guess George and I are going to have to rethink taking Fred out to Old Country Buffet on the 16th.

No, I didn't. . .and okay, I won't. . . . ???

Shame on your mind!
:'( and you told me you loved me for MY MIND! :'(

The company was okay.
;D
The evening sounds as wonderful as I expected it would be! :D

All day I have been craving a piece of that cake, providing that is cream cheese frosting. :)

Nothing happened when I clicked on that photo. ???

Happy birthday, Fred!

And speaking of photos...
From left to right...
DR Julie, DR Jose, DR elmore, DR Ben, DR Cillaliz. -Our hosts were being modest tonight. ;)
-
Nothing happened when I clicked on that photo. ???
I get taken to my photobucket account when I click on the picture and ask for its properties:

Not the photo td posted, the photo he transferred the image from. Be relieved you didn't get anything, it was filled with naked women in all sorts of unappealing poses. When I clicked on the photo I was expected to read a nice story about the schoolhouse. ;D
-
Nice photo DR Jose!

Well, I'm relieved! I didn't see that at all. . . . :o
I'd rather see DR Jose's picture of all the great looking HHWers!
-
Bruce-- I am told that if you wear bleu cheese in your jock strap on opening night, all will go well.
-
:'( and you told me you loved me for MY MIND! :'(
Exactly!
-
And speaking of photos...
From left to right...
DR Julie, DR Jose, DR elmore, DR Ben, DR Cillaliz. -Our hosts were being modest tonight. ;)
And where was Ant? Passed out behind the sofa?
-
And where was the Christmas Tree??
-
Hey, Kerry! Potluck dinner tomorrow after worship.
-
I'd rather see DR Jose's picture of all the great looking HHWers!
;D Duh!!!
-
DR Kerry, sorry I must leave before you post.
'night
-
Did you check out www.classmates.com?
Just did a quick check and didn't find anything - I'll check again when I'm not so tired.
-
Once again, thanks for the photo of the evening. Great to see all having a wonderful time. The food sounded yummilicious.
-
I'm on a little earlier than usual. I just couldn't keep my eyes open for a movie tonight. For some reason, I have been very tired today.
-
Great photo of our friends at Fred & Skip's tonight!
Thinking of the Brainiacs!
'night.
-
No one cares about the MagicJack? Or everybody already knows about it, and I am the last to know? Anyway, people at work have been raving about it and all the morning shows and magazines are buzzing about it You buy it for $40.00 and you get unlimited local and long distances call for free for the first year. And after that, it is $19.95 a year for unlimited calls. I ordered mine because everyone says it's great.
Just in case you change your minds:

Thanks for the photo of the gathering!
-
I did manage to watch 7 more episodes of DRAWN TOGETHER. They're all about the same quality. There are some promising comedy ideas spread among all the bodily function and bodily fluid jokes and visuals. But a little of that goes a very long way with me.
-
Good night all!
-
I still have four more episodes to go.
There are also some promos for all three seasons of the show and some other bonus feature, but it doesn't look like those are going to take much time at all to watch tomorrow. I'll just have to finish it then.
-
And where was Ant? Passed out behind the sofa?
Ant was the photographer.
-
And where was the Christmas Tree??
That's at Chez Ben & Ant. Tonight's soiree was held at Chez Fred & Skip.
-
Heading down now to read a bit before turning in for the night.
Good night!
-
DR TCB has a MagicJack and can now communicate across the continent!
Lovely photo of the HHW Gathering in honor of everything going on today....which is a LOT!
-
DR MATTH - I watched a few episodes of DRAWN TOGETHER when it was broadcast, but it turned out to be rather crude without any of the redeeming qualities that FAMILY GUY and even SOUTH PARK have sometimes. Didn't seem to rise above its intentions on any level.
-
DR KERRY has some strange notions about opening night traditions - fur shur.
-
TCB and George - I think (I hope) we've re-confirmed our Seattle-and-environs mini-get-together for the 22nd.
-
What good does it do to mark mail "SPAM" in Yahoo mail, when the system doesn't prevent the sender from sending you something else.
I have numerous emails from Bodacious Babes and Member Enlargement and Viagra Companies promising me everything.....no matter how many times I say: NO.
-
Wonder if DR DAKOTACELT got any of that snow?
-
TCB and George - I think (I hope) we've re-confirmed our Seattle-and-environs mini-get-together for the 22nd.
At the Old Country Buffet? ;D
-
Confirmed that the lovely mystery flowers were sent by a Mr. Singdaw.
Thank you, singdaw!
-
In case you were wondering where to spend some your vacation this year, my cousin Teddy - 19th Earl of Derby - has opened Knowsley Safari Park....I am sure it is the most fun to be had between Liverpool and Manchester.

-
I have completed my Bollywood (actually a Tollywood film as it is in Tamil) movie for the weekend...AADHI PARASAKTHI (1971) a colorful and fun film with stories of the Goddess Parasakthi.
-
And to top off my movie viewing for tonight....VICE RAID (1959) starring Mamie Van Doren....another movie that I think JRAnd will need to own ;D

How can there be any sin in syndicate (almost a Music Man reference)
-
Hmmm...MagicJack...I might need to investigate that further.
-
I am envious of those who got to eat Skip's food tonight :'(
-
Back from an incredible day. First IN THE HEIGHTS, then a wonderful meal with great friends then AUGUST:OSAGE COUNTY. It honestly didn't seem like a 3 1/2 hour play. It was intense but I was into the story so much that the time really flew by. I am very glad I saw them both and enjoyed a wonderful evening. Now I sleep (As DR Vixter would say)
-
Of course we want the CILLA LIZ Theatrical Report tomorrow!
Sounds like the GET TOGETHER was almost too much fun!
DR MBARNUM - that looks like a classic movie....I think any movie that exposes a phony model agency as B-girl headquarters is practically a documentary!
-
I think I shall now work on choosing scenes for my ALL MY SONS auditioners on May 18, and get the page numbers on the website for perusal by same.
-
It is now May 4, EST.

Back from our opening night and our gala gala reception. The show went very well indeed and we had a really vocal crowd and the laughs were mostly long and loud throughout. We received an almost instant standing ovation, something that's not happened before with this show. More coming in the notes, which I shall now write.
-
Huzzah! :)
