Well, you've read the notes, the notes had tradition, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're off trying out for the road company of Fiddler On The MOOf.

Morning all. It's 6:30am in New York and I'm finishing breakfast. It's drizzling and supposed to get up to 80 something degrees.

I hope that work will be less crazy than it was last week.

Since Anthony is still on Long Island I will spend much of the week finishing my tweaking of the laptop. That should be fun...for me anyway.

That's all for now. Later, gaters.

Good morning, all! It's not such a good day here because Jo has taken to her bed with sore throat, chills and a fever. Last night, Jo and I watched a lot of TOP CHEF episodes and laughed through them, and I knew she was feeling down with a sore throat. She kept breaking out in hot sweats so I'm not surprised that she feels like hell today. I wish there were something that I could do.

I am about ready for a round of Brain surgery before I head off to Miami University for (hopefully) lunch with the chairwoman of the Theatre Dept and a visit with the director of Special Collections. There I'll learn what's becoming of my 43 cartons.

TOD: I cannot think of a single thing, but I've got other things on my mind. Maybe later.

Dungeness crab can be yummy.  So can Dwayne Johnson, sometimes, with the right lighting and costuming.

Tuesday morning greetings!  Of the 4 people who slept in our house last night, I'm the only who didn't have to be someplace this morning.  How unusual is that?

Since Rob has no classes on Tuesdays and Mary Linda doesn't have one until 10, they stayed here and left for Cincinnati about 8:30.  Richard is off to teach his usual Tuesday morning Bible study at a nearby church and I'm just puttering on the last of my 4-days-off-in-a-row.  Later this afternoon, Richard and I will go see the Indiana Jones movie and to Barnes & Noble for the new South Pacific recording.

I went to Walmart yesterday also.  To get the flowers for my garden.  It was sort of confusing because they had different sized containers of impatiens (what i was buying) all mixed together (at different prices).

The containers fit inside the same bigger container. So it was very hard to see right away which was which (one size container was 24 flowers for $5.27 and the other was 6 for $2.27).

DR JoseSPiano - since turning on the A/C presumably raises your shared utility bill, do all the tenants have to agree on the decision to turn it on?

No.  Since the bill is split between four people, our ConEd bill is never that high  -Additionally, we're all very conscious about keeping everyone's utility bills down, so it all evens out in the wash so to speak (and I guess literally too since we have a W/D in the apartment).

I decided that I having been looking at the proverbial glass as half-empty, rather than half-full.  I have been lamenting the fact that I didn’t get to see the performance of THE LAST STARFIGHTER, which I had been eagerly anticipating.  But what I keep failing to remind myself is that I had the rare opportunity to share a Thursday afternoon with two delightful, charming, and very talented gentlemen; actually three gentlemen when you add George into the equation.  Oh, how very lucky I am to have found Haines His Way, and how lucky BK is to have gathered together such a warm and delightful group of friends.

Well, I believe I'm now caught up on my own paperwork.  I was looking at my calendar and realized that I had not yet done my invoices for a few days of work that I had before I went to L.A.  Oops!  But as of five minutes ago, faxes have been faxed, PDFs have been e-mailed, and phone calls have been confirmed.  -Or something like that.

*And, I have to say, he looks good.  Practically hot in some of them.

The electricians won't be here until after lunch, whatever that means.  And the Handy Man himself, who actually has to do the re-wiring won't be here until four.   And, although it's not for sure, they may have to turn off all the power in the house.  That will not make me happy, that much I can tell you.

Because lunch was early, I got back in plenty of time to watch a bunch of ODD COUPLE episodes. Yep, the best one on disc one was "The New Car" which is simply a scream with John Byner as a sarcastic parking garage owner, and dozens of hilarious one liners.
Title: Re:TRADITION
Post by: Matt H. on May 27, 2008, 01:07:25 PM
I also got to watch the first two episodes on Disc 2 (a total of eight episodes so far today). This was the one where Felix recounted Oscar and Blanche's wedding on a military post. SOme funny stuff, and this was Brett Somers' second episode during this fourth season (she only appeared once during the entirety of season three).

Janis Hansen who plays Gloria Unger has also made several appearances so far this season. She always plays very well opposite Tony Randall.

The last episode I watched this afternoon is the famous one with Jaye P. Morgan as the guest star dating Oscar and singing Felix's new hit song "Happy and Peppy and Bursting with Love." Felix also wants her to make a hit oout of his last big smash: "Let's Hit Hitler Where He Lives."

Another complete winner! Three of the season's best episodes all in a row.

Well, having had multiple episodes featuring them last week and the week before, I was heartened that maybe their story would start receiving some major attention every week. Alas, I hope this doesn't mean we're going to be back to one episode per week with them.

I have returned from Miami University. I spent about 90 minutes with the head of Special Collections learning the state of 43 cartons and meetiong all of her staff.  The books have all been catalogued and divided into two shelves: the book already in the MU card catalogue and books they do not have. While I was there, a nice young lady was working on the 150+ Broadway show vocal selections I shipped, and I understand that the Music Library will be brought in to examine the manuscripts and scores.

After that, I met the chairwoman of the Theatre Dept and she and I and an instructor/designer in the dept had a wonderful lunch. I got back to Randy's and found Jo feeling better. I helped her with a problem - they've got a mouse invasion going on - and she pulled one helluvan ugly rodent carcass from under the refrigerator.

On a side note, on my way to Miami U, I stopped at a supermarket to buy flowers for the ladies I was visiting. As I was backing my car out of its parking space, Macbeth pulled in next to me. My first reaction was, is he following me? He was there getting meds for Lady M who was undergoing a colonoscopy; I wanted to ask if it was to remove her head, but I behaved. Conversation was cordial and distant.

Marlana Filannino was here learning music from the musical I'm mentoring and also from Nudie Musical.  At the end of the session she handed me some sheet music to a song she'd done at her AMDA showcase, which she's using for an audition this evening - she asked if I could play through it for her.  I looked at the music and it was MY arrangement and put-together of With You/Gifts of Love from my Stephen Schwartz album.  No credit to me, Mr. Schwartz or the orchestrator was anywhere to be found.  She was quite surprised to hear it was mine.  I found out where she got it, and while I don't mind people using my arrangements, I do like to be asked - so, I'll make sure this person knows that.

Richard and I had a lovely afternoon, seeing the new Indiana Jones movie, shopping at Barnes & Noble, eating dinner at Culver's, and visiting with my Mom.

At B&N, I did indeed get a copy of the new South Pacific recording, which is glorious.  Also, the Boston Symphony Swan Lake, so I can prepare to see Rob's girlfriend as a featured dancer in CCM's production this coming weekend, and a copy of Pete Hamill's Forever, highly recommended by DR Elmore.

At Culver's, Richard and I each had a burger and fries, then he had a small blueberry/strawberry sundae and I had a small caramel/cashew sundae.  We took my Mom a concrete cooler made of vanilla frozen custard with peanut butter topping swirled in.  She needed a pick-me-up, because she'd just received a phone call with a not very good prognosis for her next-door neighbor.

TOD: I don't know if it qualifies, but I always loved Disney's "The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh" 3 part series. Kind of a variation on Robin Hood, which I've loved in all of its incarnations.

Der B would probably surmise that I had Communist sentiments instilled in me as a child.

I blame Disney!

I spent most of the evening watching many more episodes of THE ODD COUPLE. Included in this bunch this evening were two of my all-time favorites: when Felix finds Oscar a nanny and it ends up being the fabulous Reta Shaw who runs the house like a prison camp. Hilarious.

Post by: Matt H. on May 27, 2008, 08:10:49 PM
There was also an episode where Felix's fear of flying could cost him a job, so Oscar tries to help him combat it.

Terri Garr is one of the bit players in this as are George Furth and Grady Sutton.

Quite a memorable episode.

There were a couple of weaker episodes, too. One involved the boys thinking their air conditioner is haunted and calling in exorcist Victor Buono to cast out the evil spirit. Great actor wasted in a ridiculous role.

Oscar working in a greasy spoon to pay back some money he lost is also not one of the stronger episodes.

I had planned on watching an NCIS rerun tonight, but when I checked the listing, I found it was an episode from the fourth season set which I just rewatched a month or so ago.

So instead, I opened the first season box set of NCIS (which I bought today on sale at Wal-Mart ) and watched the pilot episode. Some of the pieces of the show which are present now were there from the beginning, but there are certainly differences.

I'll enjoy getting to watch these over the next weeks as a fun break between all these other TV box sets I'm reviewing.

I gotta tell you.  I made a rather interesting discovery this evening over at a certain theater chat board populated mostly by teens.

There has been a poster there who posts whenever anything about the LuPone Gypsy CD is posted.  Very defensive most of the time.  In one of those threads I suggested that people not expect it out quickly given the producer's history - his Annie recording took a year to come out, he was finally removed from the Paper Mill Follies mix because, after six months he STILL wasn't finished.  So, this poster complained to the mods of the board and they removed my post and several others that basically agreed with mine.  Then this poster began saying really nasty things about me at every turn.  I don't know why I'm so damnably slow sometimes, but tonight there was yet another thread about the Gypsy CD and sure as shootin' this guy responded and obviously from a position of knowledge.  So, I went into his profile, where one can see all his posts.  He registered on the board in February of this year.  ALL his posts are about Time Life cast albums - he posts raves about any album produced by the producer of the Time Life albums.  The only other couple of posts that aren't about him are ones where he knocks other cast album CDs and their producers.  I reread his posts about me and yes, it's very clear that the poster is no one other than the record producer of the Time Life albums.

I outed him and the post was removed.  I then wrote the mods and told them they had twenty-four hours to remove his scurrolous posts about me - because they can't have it both ways.  If they're not gone, I will be there at every opportunity to out this "person" over and over again.  They can keep removing them, and that's how they'll be spending all their time.  You'd think this producer would be over his bitterness about me (after my one and only experience in working with him in the studio, I told him I would NEVER work with him again).  His history speaks for itself - sometimes taking up to a year or even more to mix an album.  One particular CD, a revival of a well-loved and huge cult musical by the theater's finest composer/lyricist (who recently had a limited edition CD on a lovely label), is legendary - not for its quality, but for the fact that he took six months to mix it, still wasn't finished, and was finally taken out of the mixing room, the CD being finished by someone else close to the composer/lyricist.

Watch your ASS, sir, because we've got your number now.
