Well, you've read the notes, the notes flew by, like a gazelle eating lentil soup, and now it is time for you to post until the speeding cows come home.

I've been listening to the wonderful Grant Geissman Nudie Musical instrumentals done for the documentary on the DVD.  A couple of them actually gave me some ideas about arrangements for the show, and possibly new settings for a couple of non-descript throwaways like Orgasm.  I've never thought about doing that number any other way, but it's really only a twenty-five-second song, so I'm going to look at that.

I forgot Guy Haines makes an appearance on Grant's version of I Don't Have To Hide Anymore.  Have I ever told the story of who I wrote that song for?  It wasn't written for Nudie at all, it was written a year prior.

The Twenty-Five Second Orgasm

A very popular self-help book, published in the late '70s, by Emalia Twitch.

I'll leave it to your imaginations as to what she titled the sequel.

GRANDEE Patinkin ENRAGED viewers of his television series Criminal Brains, simply because he'd decided he was too important a person to appear on the tiny screen any more.  The writers of the show finally explained his character's departure by saying he had sat on a GRENADE (an event that, thankfully, took place off-camera).

TOD:

Currently reading Build a Better Burger, by James McNair.  It's the freebie I got on the latest order from Jessica's Biscuit.

And, yes, I know that a lot of what is in the book can also be found over at the Sutter Home website (http://www.sutterhome.com/).  But let's face it, there's something about holding an actual book in your hands that is mighty appealing.  And the book has more pretty pictures, some of which cry out to be licked.  (That's why they call it food porn, kids.)

And, because DR Matt will probably forget -

Tonight, on the SciFi Channel:

At 8:00, Sarah Jane must find out who these people are, who claim that her adopted son Luke is their own, on The Sarah Jane Adventure: The Lost Boy.

And, at 9:00, The Doctor, Donna and Martha must save the world from the Sontarans, in Doctor Who: The Poison Sky.

(And then, at 10:00, there's another episonde of Battlestar Galactica, but I don't bother with watching that show.)

I watched a bit of SHADOW ON THE WINDOW when it was on the other morning.  They certainly had Betty Garrett glammed up, but I didn't believe it for a second when her character claimed to be 27 years old.

I thought Corey Allen as a blond was very handsome.  And John Drew Barrymore was very intense.  The other hoodlum was played by an actor named Gerald Sarracini, and he was pretty good.  I didn't remember the name or the face, so I looked him up on the IMDB....

Shockingly - later in 1957, the year WINDOW was released, he was playing the young Romanoff character on Broadway in Peter Ustinov's Romanov And Juliet, after the Christmas Eve performance, he and a friend were walking home and were attacked by a gang of thieves.  He died as a result of the beating on December 27, 1957.

I look forward to seeing the movie and even more to seeing DR Jose, whom I've not seren since his trek to LA.

After the movie, I must hie myself back here for more Brain surgery, but we may do lunch first.

The safety and security of loved ones becomes a key concern this evening during the monthly Moon-Vesta alliance in Aries (8:20PM PDT). A sisterhood or fellowship gathering can thrive under this wisdom-producing lunar alignment. You can also receive insights regarding your investment portfolio. Students, scholars and researchers benefit greatly in the later hours as the Moon makes a supportive, 60-degree link to Mercury (exact at 12:09AM PDT on Saturday).

Hello From Montreal.

Nothing scheduled on any media front, but might take my nephew to a movie.

You miss one day on the internet because of traveling and you miss so much.

In case it wasn't mentioned, but Harvey Korman passed away. We are losing more and more (due to age) of our great performers. I think the actors of today who come and go so quickly now won't have the same impact when they pass on.

I will miss Korman's comedic talents. He made me laugh and that was so important. That is his legacy.

I won't be seeing Sex and the City tonight. All evening performances (at least at Chelsea Cinemas) are sold out and I don't want to see the movie at 2am or 9am (I do have to work ya know). We will aim for tomorrow or Sunday. My friend is supposed to pick up tickets but he's not an early riser like me so I can't call yet and tell him which viewings still have tickets. I know I can buy the tickets on line but at $12 a ticket I WILL NOT pay a fee for the privilege of purchasing the tickets over the Internet. It's the same reason I won't buy tickets from TicketMaster or Telecharge.

Ooohh... Shake Shack - maybe I'll just go down there today and see ridiculously long the line is today.  I've actually never stood in a l-o-n-g line there - I've always been lucky to stop by when the wait was never more than 15 minutes.  Yes, I can imagine standing in line for an hour or more for a burger and a shake, but I'm not sure I would really ever do that.  However, I did stand in line at Garrett's Popcorn in Chicago for an hour - it's soooo much better in Chicago - so, one never rule out the possibility.

Or something like that.

Construction Crane Collapses in New York City, at Least Two Reportedly Dead

Firefighters and rescue workers are combing through the wreckage for more possible victims after a construction crane collapsed on New York City's Upper East Side Friday, reportedly killing at least two people and critically wounding at least one.

The crane smashed into a high-rise apartment building at East 91st Street and First Avenue before crashing more than a dozen stories onto the street below. Firefighters were worried that the part of the crane still standing was not stable and barred people from the immediate area around the collapse.

Police Find $11 Million Worth of Marijuana in Georgia Woods
Friday , May 30, 2008

CHEROKEE, Ga. —

Acting on a tip, sheriff's deputies in Cherokee County confiscated more than 9,300 marijuana plants in a remote wooded area. Sgt. Jay Baker, a sheriff's spokesman, said the pot was seized Wednesday on land leased by a hunting club.

He said the illegal crop was found growing in two irrigated fields. Investigators also found evidence that someone was watching the plants.

Baker said no arrests were made, but the investigation continues.

According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, each marijuana plant was worth an estimated $1,200 — making the find worth more than $11 million.

Shayne, I can't remember much about either episode of This Is The Life, which was some sort of religious show with half-hour dramas.  In fact, the only real thing I remember is how fast they were shot - two-and-a-half days, with the next episode beginning as the last one was wrapping.  My memory is that when we came in to begin, the legendary Lee Roll 'Em Sholem was wrapping his episode and I heard him say his immortal line, "Cut, print, over there" after one take.

I've also just realzied that this is happening tomorrow, not tonight, so I may not go. I have to be at a wedding on the other side of town close tot he same time. But maybe if I duck into the bathroom and change, I could do both...

elmore, I asked Wechter to try to get someone from Showtime there, but he's just so inundated with his work he didn't do it - certainly I don't know anyone from there.  However, it need be said that the only reason Reefer Madness had its very brief off-B'way run and then was filmed was because someone on its creative team is lovers with someone at the network - it's really that simple.

Have you ever thought about getting a lover at the network?

Hope all venturing out to SEX AND THE CITY enjoy it more than the local reviewer did. His review in the newspaper this morning was 1 1/2 stars (out of 4). Of course, he only gave SWEENEY TODD 2 stars out of 4, so judge accordingly. I certainly do.

Whether a critic gives the fiim 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 stars will not matter because the people who see it and love it will be fans of the series and I don't think they'll be disappointed in the least. I loved the film, and on my way out, I heard a young lady saying to her friends "I cried during a lot of it." Well, so did I: it's romantic, very funny, dark, unhappy, wise. and maybe a bit silly but it works very well as a tie-up to the series. The fifth character in the series always was Manhattan, and it can be equally romantic, funny, dark, bleak, and still the only place I ever really want to live.

I'll reveal no plot points but the audience I was with, mostly women and gay men, seemed to be having a wonderful time and to be totally committed to it: at one point a woman in the audience uttered a loud, "No shit!" and at another point burst into happy applause at the resolution of a storyline. I'll give it a couple of days and go back to see it again. Now I want to watch the entire sereis on DVD.

After a wonderful lunch with our DR Jose, I'm off to make an unhappy phone call.

Isn't Dale Evans the source of the quote, I never liked flies till I opened one? Or was it my neighbor in Ohio?

DR Jose, re: the extra footage on the 8pm LOST rerun.

I'm not sure actually. I did re-watch most of the show (reading all the green blurbs at the bottom of the screen).

I tried to pay more attention to the media scene (because that was the scene that was reported to be expanded).

I didn't particularly notice anything new. But not sure.

Do we have to wait until Jan 2009 for my LOST? For some reason i was thinking it would be sooner!

Anyhow, i did enjoy last night's show.b ut as i said, i think the last reveal was supposed to be a huge shocker. And i think that if i had not been overthinking things it would have been huge.
I just thought, "who would make the biggest impression being in that casket". And locke was my first guess! Although how great that the name he used was jeremy benfry (or whatever, to make us think it was ben!).

Anyhow i loved kate helping ben.
But i hated watching more strangers get on the raft. Where the heck have all those people been. I have not seen any of them. Yet they got priority to leave??? :)

The thing with charlotte being there before had me so curious. Who is she???
I loved Locke as the new leader of The Others.
My favorite line last night was ben. Locke: "you just killed everyon on the boat."  Ben: "so". ha ha ha.
So sad seeing jin just not make it on the boat. And seeing sun go crazy. Liked the future scenes with sun and Mr. Widmore.
Loved penny and desmond's reunion. tear jerker!!!!!!

Does anyone know if the people who "died" last night are gone from the show?  I mean the person in the casket can still live on the island till that time. but for the others. Will they be back at all? I am most curious re: jin. I would hate to never see him again. But the spoilers i read today said "3 original cast members die in last night's show".  So i'm just wondering if he is gone for good. THat would make me so sad!

Good Afternoon!

Ah, yes, "Sex & The City" was quite wonderful.  I was surprised at how touching it was at times - and how emotional I got while watching the movie.  In fact, I know I stifled a couple of tears, and I have a feeling they may burst forth from me at any moment.

It is definitely a movie for the fans of the series.  Heck, even the series had some good, better and best episodes.

And, yes, New York City is certainly a featured character in the movie.  Even my beloved Central Park Reservoir was featured a couple of times.  :)

*My own self-giggle came from realizing that I recognized all but one of the restaurants in the movie just from their interiors - most of them were not named - by name or marquee or awning.  Scary!  I'm guessing some places on the Upper East Side and down in the Meatpacking District are going to experience quite a spike in business over the next few weeks.  ;)

As for "Lost"....

The New York Times had a great wrap-up of sorts in yesterday's paper.  Worth a read if it's still available online.

As for the "mysterious visitor's" name, well...  It rang a bell for me, and then after looking it up online, and finding the historical source of the name, well... It made sense.   -Of course, now I'm wondering if all the historically-based names actually mean something, of if the writers are just throwing them out there in order to make everyone think and/or possibly mislead their viewership.

In other news, I stopped into Laytner's after lunch, and picked out a new shower curtain and liner which I shall install/hang later.

I was going to go ahead and head back to the Park since it's such a glorious day here in NYC, but then I got a call from a friend I coached yesterday afternoon.  She had an audition for the upcoming production of Hair that the Public will be mounting in Central Park this summer this morning - which was why she had asked me to coach her yesterday afternoon.  Well, she had a great audition this morning, and she got a callback!  And the callback is tomorrow.  So, in a couple of minutes, I will head back downtown to go over the additional music they gave her.  :)

*And if she gets the show, you can bet I'm gonna pull that string for tickets.  I have a feeling the lines for those free tickets will be quite lengthy this summer.

TOD:

DVD: THE RICHES
         CRANFORD

VCR:  HEARTBEAT (British TV)
          POINT BLANK

Has anyone here seen THE RICHES? Minnie Driver's performance is INDEED impressive, but I have mixed feeings about the material. My friend Sydney really likes the series and has convinced met to continue with it, but I'd like feedback from our DRs, if anyone here has seen it.

DR Jeanne - I've watched a couple episodes of "The Riches" and found it fascinating and confusing at the same time.  The material is most definitely mixed, however, the main basis for the series is also a bit convoluted - albeit somewhat plausible, so... ???

Whenever I watched it, I just found myself being distracted my Minnie Driver's lack of English accent, and Eddie Izzard's somewhat indeterminate one.  (Ah, and almost Drood reference.)  ;)

I just read her review online and looked at all the reader responses; the positives are more than the negatives but, as I said, the hardcore fans will love it; it's like seeing old friends after a period of time, approving and disapproving their choices , and catching up on gossip. The reviewer bitched about the length of the movie. The film's about as long as 3 tv episodes (140+ minutes) and I thought it flew by.  After all, they've got four ladies' stories to balance and also bring back favorite side characters like Magda and the two gay men. I also liked the addition of Jennifer Hudson.

I began my afternoon with another episode of NCIS while I cooked and ate lunch. It was another season 1 episode as a mummified corpse of a sailor was found with some elaborate means needed to identify him and catch his killer.

Melora Hardin (who plays Jan on THE OFFICE) was the principal guest star.

Hiya, kids, hiya -

So I'm scrambling to get outa here on Monday morning, get a show book to the guy taking over music on my show (which has been extended for 2 weeks), when last night, during intermission, I walked into much mayhem, sturm, und drang in the dressing room... seems the actor/pianist for whom I had built a new book for - and was scheduled to meet today to go over stuff - is persona non grata, having broken up with his girlfriend (our leading lady) and made a play for her understudy... oy. Most of the gals are good friends, having worked together before, off and on for years... They are all flocking to support the LL, and trooped into the office after the show to tell the Boss that they will NOT work with that so-and-so. So...

Today I have to figure out how to record music for the two live songs some time between now and 9 ayem Monday morn, and find some CD's of Purcell/Dowland/John (you should forgive the last name) Blow and other period music, to take to the show tonight for Someone to record onto a show CD... AND cobble together a cues list... All the while, collecting and sorting through my stuff and packing my car and writing two articles with looming deadlines...

Ah, la vita artistica!! I'm beginning to feel like Elmore!

The ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY review of the movie matches a lot of my opinion and gives it a B+ rating. I had forgotten the episodes were 25-28 minutes long, so the film's as long as 5 episodes. Why did I think they were 50 minutes? Getting old, I guess.

A recent study found the average American walks about 900 miles per year.

Another study found Americans drink, on average, 22 gallons of beer a year.

That means, on average, Americans get about 41 miles to the gallon.

Kind of makes you proud to be an American

'LOST' SPOILAGE

Alertthemedia alerthemedia alertthemedia theOceanix6aregoingback.  Or so it would appear.  If there are to be four more seasons, we are SURELY going to have one hell of a ride between now and then.  I loved, loved, loved (I "think" that's three "loveds")last night's episode.  It was the shortest two hours I've experienced in a long, long, long (I'm fairly certain that's three "longs") time.

What an engrossing and explosive (pun intended) season finale!  I was starting to warm up to the character of Keamy and began imagining him being stranded on the island and following Locke. Of course, that "could" still happen given the nature of death and where he died (if he "truly" died).  I'd KILL for an expanded "pop-ups" version of last night's show.  We have mystery upon mystery.  And when Jack's dad told Michael he could leave, was the explosion "instantaneous" or did he, and Jin, and others, have a chance to get off the boat before the explosion?

DR JEnnifer, I don't believe there are answers to any of your questions regarding whether or not we'll see any of those people left behind on the boat.  Unless the creators let something leak to the media about the possibilities, we'll have to wait and see.

I see I've missed a lot of discussion on this busy, busy, busy (that's virtually three "busys") Friday, but I've been engaged elsewhere in a battle against megalomania and sheer stupidity.  But that's another story and totally not worthy of this company.  BangthedrumslowlyforWaltandJinandallotherswhomigh thavediedlastnight. xXDidjrtkjlkj;lkaj;lkj ;lkj;lakjf;lkjad;lfkja;lkf isarjivlkja;lkjas;lkjadsfaksjfdfaf are you reading all of this, PorkChop?  Sdskdjrh kh lkjhe /Rfghdjl jQuidertym mmda;lkjf!

I'm afraid that I may have to turn in my toaster oven; but I have no desire to see the movie version of SEX AND THE CITY, even to see Chris Noth.

The last time a Broadway Musical Sequel took place on Coney Island it went into the crapper. Anyone remember the now infamous Annie 2: Miss Hannigan's Revenge?

I think the last successful musical to take place on Coney Island was On the Town and that was over 60 years ago.

I stopped at Marie Callender's for a meal and to work on the second act of Nudie.  Our latest cast addition is a corker - Miss Sharon McNight as Eunice; couldn't be happier!  All that's left is Eddie, the backer.  I figured out which ensemble people would read which of the many parts that have to be doubled, so that's done.  But the good thing I got done was removing the camera crane from the Dancing Dildos scene - replacing it with a lot of fun slapstick, just not on the crane.  It was surprisingly easy to do and in certain ways will be even more chaotic, at least for the stage.
Title: Re:SPEEDING THROUGH TIME
Post by: bk on May 30, 2008, 05:41:30 PM
Of course, I now have to type in all these changes into the master script and I need to e-mail said script to about four of the participants, who'd like a little time with it so it's not completely cold.  Miss McNight has graciously agreed to learn her song - I have to check the version I recorded and if it's clear enough, I'll send that to her, and then schedule a rehearsal to make sure the key is fine.

Gosh, I just looked back at the day when the topic of BK's notes was "Sharon McNight's Nuts."

So many things I said back in 2006 that I wish I hadn't said.  :)

Has anyone here ever tried any at home teeth whiteners?
If so, which would you recommend using or avoiding?

Good Evening!

-There are about five too many bakeries on the Lower East Side.  Well, at least on First Avenue between 9th and 14th Streets.

Hmm.. I believe one of the NYC TV stations just did a feature on home teeth-whitening systems.  Lemme see if I can come up with anything.

Otherwise... I've never tried any of them.  However, I know a lot of people who like the Crest White Strips.

Ah, yes.  It was a song cut from Hair.  It was eventually replaced by "East To Be Hard".

I think the one with Nell Carter was this one, courtesy of youtube:

As someone said about this video on another board:  It's simply crap-tastic!  :)

I guess Nell Carter played Miss Hannigan in the revival of ANNIE, I thought it was the squel.

In other news...

Another good coaching, and I'm hoping my friend does well tomorrow at her audition.  Like all actors, she has a tendency to get a little too into her head at times - which is complicated by her Yale schooling.  ;)  The songs sit very well in her voice.  All she really has to work on is getting the lyrics in the right order.

Yes, she played Miss Hannigan in one of the many revivals of Annie.  However, if I recall, the Nell Carter revival also featured a new song for Miss Hannigan which was written for Ms. Carter.

-And I'm guessing that song and others will be included on the forthcoming 30th Anniversary recording of the show.

After leaving the Lower East Side with baked goods in tow, I headed over to Chelsea to meet up with my friend, Carl, for dinner.  We ended up supping at the Hollywood Diner, which, I believe, is just down the stairs from DR Ben's abode.  After dinner, he headed on up to the Cort to see The 39 Steps, and I headed on home.

Whew!

I'm all caught up with THE TUDORS: heads rolled one after another. William Brereton's false charge, after a head-to-head with Cromwell on another matter, was left out of the storyline, which would have reinforced the witch hunt.  George Boleyn's wife in this production is more wronged than just plain crazy, although she certainly condemned him fast enough. My memory of her in the SIX WIVES OFV HENRY VIII is much meaner and evil; she'll get hers in Catherine Howard's story if the series goes that long.

Matt, I am curious.  When you review a show like 7TH HEAVEN that you so thoroughly dislike; do you slam the show because it isn't your cup of tea, or are you reviewing it more for the quality of the DVD and the extras that are lncluded?

I can send you a link once the review goes up so you can see for yourself (it's going up later tonight), but if you want to spare yourself the trouble, I can answer here.

I admit such a show is not my cup of tea in the review (though I try to be as objective as possible by finding the good among the bad. I have rarely flat out panned anything. There's usually something positive to say if one looks for it. Being nasty and sarcastic is easy, but I don't go for that kind of blanket panning.) Still, no reviewer worth his salt is going to like everything, so the thing about reading reviewers is if you're going to depend on them to guide your viewing choices, then you find one who seems to jive with your own likes and dislikes. Or you if you don't need guidance for that, you read them for information and fun.

My reviews, as are all the reviews on better sites, critique the material as well as the quality of the video, audio, and bonuses. I think all of those things are vital to someone wanting to decide whether to rent or buy a certain title.

Well, I'm happy to say that I did indeed finish 7TH HEAVEN tonight. There was a heap of foolishness about the Jewish father of the bride and the Christian father of the groom weren't going to attend the wedding (enough to spread over TWO episodes). Peter Graves (as the father of the Christian father) talked sense finally to his son and made him see his utter stupidity.

There was also a memorial episode in honor of a Marine who was killed in the war that youngest daughter Ruthie was writing as a pen pal. Based on a real soldier. As the season I've watched happened during 9/11, such a tribute episode isn't surprising.

I watched two NCIS episodes to finish disc 2 of the set.

The first one had to do with a sabotage aboard a submarine with the team trying to locate the guilty party. Very good episode. This is the first one that introduced Timothy McGee to the show. (He hadn't become a regular yet.)
Title: Re:SPEEDING THROUGH TIME
Post by: Matt H. on May 30, 2008, 08:26:35 PM
The second episode took the team to Guantanomo Bay to check out a potential murderer there among some prisoners.

In this episode, Tony knew nothing about classic movies. He had never seen SHANE, didn't even know who Alan Ladd was, and knew nothing about THE MALTESE FALCON.

Obviously this changed by the time I started watching the show in season 4. He's now a movie buff who's forever quoting lines from films.

Actually, I'm about to sit down and watch the entire 3rd Rock episode from which DR Edisaurus posted that clip a few days ago.  With my 3-D glasses on!  :)

I actually was looking at ordering that season, just to see the whole episode. It's interesting that they brought in a completely different director just to direct the dream sequences!

I've probably watched that clip a dozen times. It's really sublime!
