Well, you've read the notes, the notes were like the theater of the absurd, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're watching MOO and Pah Jong.

My first GG is, of course, Grant Geissman.

And my first GG is Gogi Grant. I really have no idea who she is, but I just know her name.

Well, since I'm here by my lonesome, I may as well do a couple of my faves:
Gloria Grahame.

Gogi Grant was (and still is, unless she passed recently) a terrific singer - her big hit was The Wayward Wind.

Yesterday, I wrote:
ARRGGHH!! I set my DVR to record this. When I got up, my DVR was on but it had a big error message on the screen, basically saying that my DVR was 100% full! :o Not again. I deleted a tiny clip that I had recorded and INSTANTLY my DVR was ONLY 24% full. What gives? Why does it do that?? It's not fair. :P
Then, der Brucer der Brucer wrote:
I don't know about yours, but mine (from COMCAST) seems to "lose" space over time - if I unplug it and then re-power up, the lost space is recovered. (Turning off is not sufficient, you must un-plug!)

Thanks for the tip, but that won't prevent this problem from happening in the first place. :-\ I figured that I can record several clips of just a few seconds each, and when this happens and I need to delete something...anything, I can delete one of the clips and that'll reset the "space available" ratio. I don't doubt that powering down the DVR would work, but it just seems like it's more of a hassle.

Gale Gordon.
Good morning, all! I'm listening to a peculiar Bouffe-Parisiens recording of Offenbach's La Belle Helene from the 1970s with Nicky Nancel as Helen (of Troy). For a 1970s theatrical production, the band sounds like it's a piano, trumpet, cello, flute, and percussion, ratheer like a millenium Broadway pit. I like the performance, although it sounds small chorally (9 in the chorus, although in Offenbach's opera-bouffes the principals usually sing with the chorus in the big moments) but I wish the orchestra were bigger. Offenbach usually had about 30 players, as did Sullivan, Victor Herbert, and nearly every other non-German operetta writer.
Today, more Brain surgery; I need to go to the NYPL, but the rare books division is closed on Mondays.

"However, if he IS actually signed, I have a bet with someone on the ATC board and if I've lost I'm donating ten bucks to BC/EFA. We shall see. Mr. Marshall has said this film was going into rehearsal in a month on about six occasions."
Of course, I have no idea what's really going on in regard to this, but TO BE FAIR, there have been at least three setbacks that I know about:
1. Javier Bardem leaving the production: you can't do NINE without a Guido.
2. The writers' strike which brought preproduction to a halt on a number of films in preproduction.
3. The death of Anthony Minghella who was doing the final rewrite on the script.

I do plan to watch THE MOLE tonight. When it first premiered, it was my favorite reality show. It came on initially during my last year of teaching, and trying to guess the identity of The Mole occupied my team of teachers for weeks on end. We even bet lunch out for the team on the results.
Not only that, but I was so enraptured by the series that I applied for being cast in the second season of episodes. There was a 10-page application form plus you had to submit a two minute videotape "interview" to let the producers get to know you. I thought it would be a great way to spend my first year of retirement (like THE AMAZING RACE, the show moved from country to country during its various rounds).
Obviously, I wasn't selected, but what's funny is that they DID select a man who almost matched my stats perfectly - single man in his late 40s, a teacher on the verge of retirement. (Ironically, he was the first one eliminated in the first episode of the show.)

Hi, there, DR Miss Karen. Now that the thesis cruch is over, you must be kicking back and being fed peeled grapes and fanned by enormous palm fronds!
Well, as they say, it ain't over until the fat lady sings -- looks like I'm gonna have some revisions from my third reader (and I haven't heard back yet from the other two readers so no telling what they'll want done to the paper) -- so this giant thesis monkey (which I guess makes it a gorilla) on my back is still weighing heavily so the grapes got put back in the frig and my pool boy just took his enormous palm frond ( :o that sounds like a euphemism! -- you have a way of inspiring those, DR SawHorse) back to the storage room....

ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAMER BO DIDDLEY DIES AT 79
Monday , June 02, 2008
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. —
Bo Diddley, a founding father of rock 'n' roll whose distinctive "shave and a haircut, two bits" rhythm and innovative guitar effects inspired legions of other musicians, died Monday after months of ill health. He was 79.
Diddley died of heart failure at his home in Archer, Fla., spokeswoman Susan Clary said. He had suffered a heart attack in August, three months after suffering a stroke while touring in Iowa. Doctors said the stroke affected his ability to speak, and he had returned to Florida to continue rehabilitation.
The legendary singer and performer, known for his homemade square guitar, dark glasses and black hat, was an inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, had a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame, and received a lifetime achievement award in 1999 at the Grammy Awards. In recent years he also played for the elder President Bush and President Clinton.
Diddley appreciated the honors he received, "but it didn't put no figures in my checkbook."
"If you ain't got no money, ain't nobody calls you honey," he quipped.

Thanks, Ginny. I shall give her a try. Interesting that you mention Doris Lessing. I read a lot of Doris Lessing in my 20's. I wasn't thinking those days of whether an author "sang" to me or not; I thought of Doris Lessing as interesting, with real substance, but not an easy read. I would say that Laurie King sings to me; I love her writing.

I see a new Dear Reader (DR) at the top of the list!
Hello, JulieC40. Please tell us about yourself and join in the game. We are listing people with the initials "G.G."
-
Well, I'm still getting use to this. I'm at work and my lunch time is running out, however. I will post more later. I am from Portland, Oregon, and my sister and I are planning a trip to NY at the end of July and was hoping to get some tips and make some connections. Want to see at least 2 to 3 shows. I'm in early 40's! I'm excited to be in this online community. Will post more later! Thanks for the column.
-
Thanks for the welcome! See, I am new! :)
-
Gogi Grant was (and still is, unless she passed recently) a terrific singer - her big hit was The Wayward Wind.
Thanks for the info. I'll check out some of recordings. :)
The library where I work only has her on two different compilation CDs...but it's the same song. :-\
-
Gyro Gearloose, Duckberg's most famous inventor.
-
Hi, JulieC40! How did you hear/find out about us??
:)
-
Welcome new DR JulieC40!
-
NYC HHW-ers alert: I have told a Pops choir member of mine who is venturing to NYC for her first time this summer to join the Forum here and get your advice on what to see, where her best bets for getting autographs, etc., might be. So be nice. ;D
I just caught up to this post.
-
Elsewhere from Disney:
Grammy Gummi, of the Gummi Bears.
-
Good Afternoon!
Ah... Nothing like a nice hair cut to help keep one cooler now that the summer temps are starting to creep in.
*And, best of all, when I stepped into the barber shop, there was no one there except for the barbers. No waiting! :)
-
Likewise Gruffy Gummi.
-
And Gusto Gummi.
-
And my feet are tired, from wrangling carts all morning (and into the afternoon).
-
GENEROUS GEORGE'S POSITIVE PIZZA & PASTA PLACE (http://www.generousgeorge.com/company_info.html)
der Brucer
That's the place! And part of their fame is a result of their Pasta Pies (http://www.generousgeorge.com/pasta_pies.html).
-
I'm feeling impatient.
Here's one DR Jose would appreciate:
Gale Gand, pastry chef

*And, best of all, when I stepped into the barber shop, there was no one there except for the barbers. No waiting! :)
I'm thinking for the first time in years and years and years and years and years I will get a summer haircut. I haven't had short hair (not that I have long hair now) since I was a child but the approaching summer temperatures make me think it's time this year. If I do it, I will actually see how thin my hair is on top and how I will look when it begins receding even faster than it does now.
-
And Gael Greene, food critic and lusty memoirist.
-
I see JMK has posted. Hi, JMK! :) I decided to stay on a bit longer. I'll just work and try to post as well. We'll see if I can do this without getting in hot water. So everyone, "HI!" I hope this will be be a good experience for me and I hope I can bring some laughter to you as well.
-
Ben, you might want to think twice and not tempt fate!
(And the shaved head is such a cliche now, don'tcha know?)
-
Julie, you should be warned: we are a dangerous group. And addictive.
-
Now I feel stupid. I see he posted early this morning. Anyhow, I made a note of Generous George's. Will be staying at the Algonquin end of July. I'm totally new at NY stuff so where is George's compared to that hotel?
-
"Good Morning Coleslaw" does have the "Glippy-Glop Gloopy" section. Does that count as an intervening G.G.?
:)
I always thought that it was "Gliddy-Glop Gloopy..."
-
And unlike a certain Jose, you spelled the surname correctly.
der Brucer
Umm... I spelled the surname correctly. "Rare Silk" was comprised of Todd Buffa, Marguerite Jeunemann (later replaced by Barbara Reeves), and the Gillaspie sisters, Marilyn and Gaile. -And I have the three LPs - signed! - and the subsequent CDs to prove it!
-
S. Woody, Thanks for the tip. I can already tell you're dangerous...I run with that kind of crown anyhow. Consider the source...JMK!
-

Do you like cupcakes? candy? chocolate? mac'n'cheese? ;D
-

Umm.. It's about 250 miles south of your hotel, just outside of Washington, DC, in Alexandria, VA. But if you wanted to hop on the Acela and head down to DC for the day, well... ;)
-
Umm... I spelled the surname correctly. "Rare Silk" was comprised of Todd Buffe, Marguerite Jeunemann (later replaced by Barbara Reeves), and the Gillaspie sisters, Marilyn and Gaile. -And I have the three LPs - signed! - and the subsequent CDs to prove it!
And I'm thinking that DRs George and JMK could probably back me up on this too.
-
Do you like cupcakes? candy? chocolate? mac'n'cheese? All of the above.
George's - well, not wanting to go that far. Thought it might be in NY. That's okay. Any other tips are welcome. Also if you wanna give me free tickets to a show I won't complain...ha!
-
DR Julie (Dear Reader), you have come to the right place. We have several Dear Readers who live in the NYC area and I'm sure will be happy to give you any tips they can. We are a friendly group.
DR Jose can tell you about any show or any kind of food, I'm sure!
-
And I'm thinking that DRs George and JMK could probably back me up on this too.
Not I. Sorry. :-\

-
Welcome, DR JulieC40!
-
BTW, How do I get the Dear Reader off of my name. That's annoying, isn't it?
We're all DRs here.
It's just a term we use, to be friendly.
And annoying at the same time.
-
Oh and i'm not sure if anybody mentioned this for on tv tonight:
But the LEGALLY BLONDE reality show: searching for the new ELLE starts tonight at 10pm on MTV.
I would totally be watching this if i got MTV (or if it was on MTV Canada).
Thanks for mentioning this. I didn't realize that it was starting tonight.
-
Do you like cupcakes? candy? chocolate? mac'n'cheese? All of the above.
George's - well, not wanting to go that far. Thought it might be in NY. That's okay. Any other tips are welcome. Also if you wanna give me free tickets to a show I won't complain...ha!
Well...
As for tickets - No one gives out freebies anymore, however, there are tons of discounts out there. Be sure to check out:
www.BroadwayBox.com
www.Playbill.com - Enroll in the Playbill.com Club - it's free!
Even the New York Times has special discount offers from time to time offered through their e-mail-list.
You might also want to sign up for smarttix.com and goldstarevents.com. They do offer discounts every now and then for Broadway shows, but they also feature a lot of off-Broadway, comedy clubs and music acts too.
And, of course, there's always TKTS (http://tdf.org/TDF_ServicePage.aspx?id=56) if you want to do the same-day-half-price-tickets-stand-in-line deal.
-
Ah, I see. I'd rather just be "dear", "honey", "darlin", anything but "dear reader." *lol*
-
Jose, Thanks so much! I made a note of all of those. Will check them out tonight when I get home!
-
DR JulieC40 - And as for Cupcakes, Chocolates, Candy and Mac'N'Cheese, well...
You could click HERE (http://josespiano.wordpress.com/2008/01/24/butter-and-flour-and-sugar-oh-my/) for a brief rundown of some of the choices on the UWS. Otherwise, just ask again. And again. ;)
-
-WOW! I guess it has been a while since I blogged. I shall have to remedy that situation this week!
-
OH, you are EVIL! That is the last thing I need is all the desserts, but I'm sure I will find them! :) Thanks so much! Love all that stuff!
-
So is that your page? I mean did you make those desserts?
-
And a very happy HainesHisWay welcome to darlin' DR JulieC40!!! :)
We're glad you're here. Come back early and often!!
-
singdaw, well, thank you, sugar! :)
-
I had a friend that was a part of this group several years ago. Dennis Clancy, anyone remember that name? Might have gone by D.C.?
-
Welcome to new dear reader Julie! Glad she made it. I believe she knows JMK. Jose knows more about the great places to sup in New York, New York than almost anyone. But FJL also knows terrific places, as does Ben and singdaw and even li'l ol' me.
-
I just realized maybe I should not have given out his last name but he actually passed away a few years ago so I suppose it doesn't hurt now, wouldn't ya think?
-
(The) Great Guildersleeve, radio star
-
BK, Thanks for the names of those of people. I will keep an eye out. Jose has already helped! And thank you for the welcome! JFK is a really cool person! Don't tell though...JFK will get a big head!
-
Lunch ran long (nothing new there), so I didn't have as much time for viewing this afternoon as I would have liked.
-
I did have time to watch two HAWAII FIVE-O episodes. In the first, it was nice to have a real murder mystery with Herbert Lom as the principal suspect. Also in the guest cast were France Nuyen and Jeff Corey.
-
The second one was a standard crime drama with crime boss Henry Darrow having his victims placed in garbage dumpsters and then incinerated.
-
Welcome new DR JulieC40!!
-
Gilda's gonna catch a cold if'n she's not careful!
-
Page Nine WIZARD OF OZ Dance!!!
-
I had time to scan through today's AS THE WORLD TURNS. No Luke and Noah today, but they were in the previews for tomorrow (and very serious situations they're in, too!)
-
I also scanned through the channels, and noticed HBO is showing in HD the Jodie Foster ANNA AND THE KING, yet another example of a Fox movie HBO has recomposed in HD. It's 2.35:1 widescreen and yet they're showing it at 1.78:1, just as they did with MR. & MRS. SMITH and THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA. I hate when they do that!
-
WELCOME DEAR,HONEY,DARLIN' JULIE C 40 !!
-
MBarnum & Arnold, Thank you! Arnold, you're a kick! I was kind of joking with that!
-
So if I'm staying at the Algonquin on 44th, not far from Birdland, I understand. What are some good eating places from there that wouldn't be too extremely expensive?
-
Granny Goose.
-
So if I'm staying at the Algonquin on 44th, not far from Birdland, I understand. What are some good eating places from there that wouldn't be too extremely expensive?
DR JulieC40 - For deli-type carry-out, my husband and I like the Cranberry Deli on 45th, just west of 6th Ave. They have a space upstairs where you can "eat in," too, and we've chilled there many times.
-
Gregory Gardner - A Chorus Line.
-
Granny Goose? I'm assuming that was a reply to me? I wrote it down and will check it out. Thank You!
-
Gigi Gryce - jazz musician.
-
Welcome sixteen GUESTS.
-
Well, I will sign out for now, and visit tonight. It was nice chattin' with ya all! :)
-
Gary Graver - director and cameraman - worked with Orson Welles.
-
George Garvarentz - film composer.
-
Well, I'm going to do a little computer maintenance and then head back down to continue with "Book 'em, Dano."
WBBL.
-
Gaby Gerrard - Cyd Charisse in The Band Wagon.
-
"Book 'em, Dano."
Not to be confused with Dino.
At the piano.
-
Granny Goose? I'm assuming that was a reply to me?
DR JulieC40 - Nah, I think Granny is an entry in today's "GG" game. Although it certainly wouldn't surprise me to find an establishment in NYC called Granny Goose. :D
-
Ah, I see. I'd rather just be "dear", "honey", "darlin", anything but "dear reader." *lol*
I really don't think that you/we have much of a choice. ;)
-
And The Randy Vicar wasn't even invited!
Ah, but he WAS invited -- but he left and took his frond home when he found out the thesis celebration had been postponed ....
-
If DRLaura hasn't claimed her yet:
Gabrielle Giffords, US congresswoman from AZ
-
I got a lovely little package from DR George in the mail today! :D
Thank you, thank you DR George! It is added to the viewing docket for this evening!!
-
DR JulieC40 - For deli-type carry-out, my husband and I like the Cranberry Deli on 45th, just west of 6th Ave. They have a space upstairs where you can "eat in," too, and we've chilled there many times.
Oh, I like Cranberry too. It can get crazy during the lunch rush, but since it's so busy, the steam table selections tend to be quite fresh.
As for being "near" Birdland, well, "near" is always a relative term in NYC. You're three long blocks away from Birdland if you're staying at the Algonquin. It's more of a 10-minute walk, rather and a 5-minute one - and, for some, that extra five minutes can make all the difference.
-Or something like that. ???
In any case... There are some decent dining choices in that area. There's "Little Brazil" which is 46th Street between 6th & 7th Aves. -Alas, there's really only two Brazilian/Latin places along that strip, but Margon does offer very generous lunch portions. You're also a short walk from Grand Central Station, and Grand Central's Food Court and Market. -As well as the famous Oyster Bar. The Oyster Bar isn't necessarily cheap if you're going for an entree, but a bowl of clam chowder or a clam roll will only run your about $8.00, and they even have a takeout window, although sitting at the counters is quite an NYC-experience.
You'll also be near many award-winning food carts, as well as a number of fast food and sandwich shops.
In general, I usually recommend people to venture over to 9th Ave., and just start looking at all the various cuisines, menus and price points. There's something for everyone between 42nd and 54th, and since it's off the main drags (8th Ave and Broadway), the prices and crowds tend to be smaller too.
-
If DRLaura hasn't claimed her yet:
Gabrielle Giffords, US congresswoman from AZ
I just looked her up to make sure I was spelling her last name correctly (that is not a typo -- it is Giffords with an "s"). Looks like her husband is a shuttle astronaut, Mark Kelly, and he's on a mission at the space station right now...
-
I got a lovely little package from DR George in the mail today! :D
Thank you, thank you DR George! It is added to the viewing docket for this evening!!
Cool! ;D Glad to be of service.
;)
-
Miss Karen, in Paris.
der Brucer
Yes, tis I! ... FYI: That's the outfit I was wearing the night DR FJL fell in love with me...
-
Gerritt Graham, whom I worked with here in the ATL
-
Welcome to new Dear Reader JulieC40!
-
I forgot it was initial day, or I would have checked in earlier!
-
I have a few waiting...
-
DR edisaurus - FYI: Bill Irwin's new show in Philly, The Happiness Lecture (http://www.philadelphiatheatrecompany.org/2008/lecture.html) just extended another week. ;)
-
Oh, dang! You temptress!
I'll just have to hope it makes it to NY lsometime in the future...
-
If I was going to spend some $$ for frivolity, I would like to go to SF on 4th of July weekend for the opening night of the Labor Film Festival. (Our film is the opening night film!)
It would be a nice excuse for a business vacation, but I still can't justify it with the price of airfare right now...
-
How could I have forgotten Gerritt??? He, of course, stars in The Creature Wasn't Nice, playing Rodzinski.
-
Mr. Rothman has sent me an e-mail with his G.G.s - he can't remember his password here, and he, for whatever reasons, doesn't re-register, which would be quite simple.
-
Here are his:
Greg Garrison - TV producer
-
Did you see I posted Gerritt but then took him off because I wanted to play by the rules?
-
Glenn Griffin - character played by Bogie in The Desperate Hours.
-
I sitll have Gorgeous George...
-
Gale Goodrich - Laker
-
Glen Gray - bandleader
-
The Flintstones' guest star, Gary Granite
-
The other Grahame Greene - Native American actor.
-
George Gaynes - actor (so great in Tootsie).
-
Gary Gentry - pitcher for the Mets circa late 60s.
-
Just spoke to our very own GG, Grant Geissman - he can't work tonight as originally planned, but we'll finish it up first thing tomorrow morning at ten. That's fine.
-
Welcome nine GUESTS.
-
Another Flintstones guest star: the Great Gazoo
-
BK, Thanks for the names of those of people. I will keep an eye out. Jose has already helped! And thank you for the welcome! JFK is a really cool person! Don't tell though...JFK will get a big head!
Ask not what you can do for your correct acronym, ask what your correct acronym can do for you. Or something like that.
-
I also received some lovely mail from DR George today! I'm going to prepare my dinner of leftover pizza and a nice salad and watch it.
Thank you, George!
-
Looks like her husband is a shuttle astronaut, Mark Kelly, and he's on a mission at the space station right now...
Fixing the broken toilet?
-
"I have this idea for a musical, see? It's about this like, guy. He's called THE PHANTOM. And he wears this, like, mask, OK? And he lives inside this little glass of water..."

Perhaps the doctor could up your dosage?

Ah, but he WAS invited -- but he left and took his frond home when he found out the thesis celebration had been postponed ....
I think you'll need to find a new pool boy, Missy Karen.
If it's the guy I heard about, that "palm frond" is a product of his overactive imagination more than it is a realistic device for coverage.
-
Ron is alive!
-
Another from Mr. Rothman:
Gonzo Gates (character on Trapper John, MD).
-
From me:
Gina Golan - actress (Our Man Flint)
-
I can see The New York Post cover now:
Fraught Female Fondles Fabled Frond Friskily
And the next day, you'll read:
Female Finds Frond Fondling Forgettable
-
The Great Gildersleeve
-
[shadow=color,glow width,#characters wide] PAGE 11 [/shadow]
-
the Golden Girls theme - Thank you for being a frond
-
Does Georgy Girl count as a G.G.?
-
Another Flintstones guest star: the Great Gazoo
... and one of the Muppets: the Great Gonzo or Gonzo the Great (he went by both) ...
-
Does Georgy Girl count as a G.G.?
... oh, and the famed Gibson Girls ...
-
Greg Goodbrod - a fine fine dancer
-
and a fine actor/singer, too
-
... oh, and the famed Gibson Girls ...
... or Gibson Girl since it was used in the singular a lot ...
-
I also received some lovely mail from DR George today! I'm going to prepare my dinner of leftover pizza and a nice salad and watch it.
Thank you, George!
You're welcome!
-
... and one of the Muppets: the Great Gonzo or Gonzo the Great (he went by both) ...
DR edisauraus nailed that on the previous page, I think.
-
Gyro Gearloose, Duckberg's most famous inventor.
I do worry about you, Woody.
-
There's Golan-Globus Productions. Does that count?
-
I see JMK has posted. Hi, JMK! :) I decided to stay on a bit longer. I'll just work and try to post as well. We'll see if I can do this without getting in hot water. So everyone, "HI!" I hope this will be be a good experience for me and I hope I can bring some laughter to you as well.
Welcome, JulieC!
-
DR edisauraus nailed that on the previous page, I think.
DR Edi's Gazoo post lead to my Gonzo post, so she should receive half of the credit point...
-
Glen Grant - Mr. Grant was legendary in the Pacific Northwest as the owner of Glen Grant Chevrolet. For years, he did all of his own God-awful commercials. He was kind of like Seattle's version of Ralph Williams - only much worse.
-
one more AZ connection:
Grady Gammage (the ASU Gammage Auditorium in Tempe is named after him)
-
Did anyone mention director Gary Griffin?
-
LOL. Is that the trick to your Power Cleaning Binges, eh?
Yes, it's one of them
-
Elsewhere from Disney:
Grammy Gummi, of the Gummi Bears.
I am addicted to gummy bears. I just ate way too many of them
-
Julie, you should be warned: we are a dangerous group. And addictive.
Kind of like Gummy Bears
-
Now I feel stupid. I see he posted early this morning. Anyhow, I made a note of Generous George's. Will be staying at the Algonquin end of July. I'm totally new at NY stuff so where is George's compared to that hotel?
Oh, you'll love the Algonquin. I stayed there a few years ago. It's like being at home, cat and all.
-
Oh, you'll love the Algonquin. I stayed there a few years ago. It's like being at home, cat and all.
Guess I'd better not ever stay there - Ah-choo!
-
Gary Gulman, "Last Comic Standing" finalist. He's cute, too. ;)
-
So if I'm staying at the Algonquin on 44th, not far from Birdland, I understand. What are some good eating places from there that wouldn't be too extremely expensive?
The Edison Cafe is an experience and has the best soup... it's in the Hotel Edison or is it Edison Hotel, on 47th and Broadway. There is also a diner just West of the Algonquin. It's just a diner, but was reasonably priced. I had breakfast there nearly every day that I stayed at the Algonquin.
Of course, just for fun you may want to dine in the room with the Algonquin Round Table. It was cool just to be there
-
Guess I'd better not ever stay there - Ah-choo!
In the late 1930s a rather disheveled feline wandered into the hotel searching for food and shelter. Ever the quintessential host, owner Frank Case welcomed the furry traveler into the Algonquin and a tradition was born.
Matilda, the current resident, is very popular with our guests. She has the run of the house (except in dining areas and kitchen) but prefers to oversee the comings and goings of the many guests who cross her threshold.
Matilda receives mail weekly from friends around the world and has been the subject of countless stories. On one occasion, when her collar was stolen, the "Algonquin Cat-Burglary" was the talk of the town.
Each year Matilda is given a birthday party, as befits a New York celebrity. A memorable one occurred in 2002 when, while celebrating her seventh birthday with 150 of her closest friends, she jumped on her cake and ran out of the room, leaving a trail of paw prints.
Cat fanciers may contact Matilda directly at matildaalgonquincat@algonquinhotel.com.

Couldn't I just jump out of a plane today? It would be far less fearful than what I'm doing. I feel like I've just played piano for Horowitz (well, a live Horowitz). In other words, I feel like I don't know what I'm doing. No one has given me the script for life today.
I've missed you guys and you make me smile.

Greer Grammer -Kelsey's daughter
Just ready that Kelsey is recovering from a mild heart attack

I don't know if this'll count, but: Geraldine Garder...okay, I had to look this up, because it was bothering me too much. There is an Australian singer/actress with the first name of Geraldine but I couldn't remember her last name. I knew that she had recorded two Sondheim CDs, which I own. The name that eventually came to me (but didn't seem right) was Geraldine Gardner (GG!), but I had to make sure. I looked her up on IMBb.com (sometimes I start there for no reason) and she is listed HERE (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0306933/). But it says that Geraldine Gardner was from England and died in 1987! I'm pretty sure that the singer that I'm thinking of recorded the second Sondheim CD after that. I kept thinking about the singer...I have those Sondheim CDs, I could picture her picture and finally her correct name popped into my head...Geraldine Turner. So, just out of curiosity, I looked her up on IMDb.com and she has a listing HERE (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0877575/), and yes, Turner is from Australia. But what is interesting (and my point to this otherwise pointless story) is that the two Geraldines have/had/have (almost a Sweeney Todd reference) the exact same birthday, 23 June, 1950! Isn't that weird?? And isn't this otherwise a totally pointless story except that a mistakenly remembered name turned out to be someone a bit famous, making it eligible for today's Topic??
;)

(((((Kerry)))))
I told you not to worry about that thing we did yesterday.

Don't know what "Thing" you two did yesterday, but it's great to see you DR Kerry

I left the Democratic party today. Enough is enough. I am now officially registeres as "No Party" does that mean I'm not any fun?
Can I ask the reason, or would you rather not say? You could PM me if you prefer.
-
Gammer Gurton!
-
Have we mentioned Gunther Gerber-Williams?

In a nutshell, I think the party has gotten weak. I think the Democrats in Congress have been spineless. I think Obama ran a very nasty campaign, but did it in a way that he could still distance himself and play the victim if someone tried to call him on it. He's very schooled in Chicago politics and played it all the way. I think the party giving Obama 4 delegates in a state where Obama decided not to be on the ballot was totally outrageous. I am very disgusted with party people who tell me I have to support him if he gets the nomination. No, I don't. I would vote for Hillary. I will not vote for Obama and I will not be a member of the party who supports him.

Good Evening!
A longtime friend of mine came by a few hours to go through a song for an audition he has on Wednesday. He's currently on the road with Phantom of the Opera, and flew back home for a few personal days - and an audition. Since he's also Filipino, instead of paying me in cash/check, he took me out to dinner. ;) We ended up down in Times Square at Virgil's for some pretty darn good BBQ, and we had a wonderful time catching up on each other's lives.
We met while we were both in Richmond. In fact, I cast him in his first professional show, Violet. He's been on the road with Phantom for just over a year, and he was an emergency-last-minute-replacement hire. He had to head out on the road just two weeks after getting hired - and he was hired the day after his audition. I didn't know he had gotten the gig until he was already on the road for six months! So, needless to say, we did have a lot to catch up on.
All in all, it was a wonderful way to spend an evening.

DR elmore - Did you get my message about June 5? If not: Yes! :)
-
Couldn't I just jump out of a plane today? It would be far less fearful than what I'm doing. I feel like I've just played piano for Horowitz (well, a live Horowitz). In other words, I feel like I don't know what I'm doing. No one has given me the script for life today.
I've missed you guys and you make me smile.
We miss you too, DR Kerry.
*And I know exactly what you mean about having just "played for Horowitz". -I've had a few moments like that myself lately. Just remember, as long as you were still able to walk out of the room/situation, well, that's really all that matters. :)
-
...And now I'm watching "Legally Blonde The Musical: The Search For Elle Woods"... Hmm...
First of all, the pink paper has to go. Yes, it's cute and catchy, but reading music off of pink paper ain't helping anybody.
Secondly, the singing "test" is "I Am So Much Better" - the Act One closer. They are making the girls hold the last note out as it was originally written and performed... Not like it was done at the MTV taping. ;)
>MEOW<
-
Thanks for reminding me of the Legally Blonde show. It's much better for my blood pressure than CNN. I recorded it so I'll start watching now
-
Jose, do you recognize any of the remaining 15?
-
Jose, do you recognize any of the remaining 15?
OMIGOD! I do! ;)
*And sort of along the lines of your "Next Food Network Star" discussion yesterday, I'm sort of surprised that more of the girls did not already have the song memorized. -Especially since is all after the regional auditions, and initial pre-screens. ???
-
*And, remember, that after the broadcast, Seth Rudetsky will do one of his classic "deconstructions" online at www.iamonmtv.com. :)
-
Oh good, I think the Elle woods show is repeated at 11.
-
At that website, Bernie Telsey's ohoto says under it "I have 0 fans."
That needs to be fixed, doesn't it?
-
So it's been written, so it shall be done. :) telsey now has 3 fans.
-
Both Greg Garrison and Gary Griffin made appearances earlier.
-
I suppose I shall now watch a motion picture on DVD.
-
The evening did not go very much as planned due to a last minute arrival from DTL (?). Anyway more about that later.
-
I began by watching several other HAWAII FIVE-O episodes. One had Monte Markham as the (gorgeous) guest star. This one contained a great surprise ending.
-
Another one featured John Ritter as a hippie street performer who stumbles on a briefcase with $250,000 in it.
It belonged to guest star Vic Morrow who plays, believe it or not in this 1971 drama, a gay man who embezzled the money from his firm, left the wife he's loathed his entire life, and puts the make on Ritter (who wasn't interested). Ritter uses lots of euphemisms for gay in describing Morrow: lavender, fairy, etc.
-
Page Thirteen Glinda and Dorothy Dance!!!
-
Oh good, I think the Elle woods show is repeated at 11.
Yes. Yes, it is.
*And it will be interesting to see what kind of reaction there is to one or two of the finalists. -At least in regards to their "pedigree".
-
Next, I watched BONES since it was the third season premiere episode which I couldn't remember much about. It really set up at this early date the season finale which, at the time of first viewing, we knew nothing about.
-
Hello, DR KERRY!!!
Welcome to JULIEC40 who does NOT wish to be a DR.
-
I received in the mail early this evening two discs which had been farmed out from Paramount to Legend Films. The first, which I watched tonight, was HITLER: THE LAST TEN DAYS with Alec Guiness as Hitler.
Some interesting scenes, and Guiness gets to rave like a madman as Hitler, but I didn't find it half as entertaining as the old CBS TV special called THE BUNKER which featured Anthony Hopkins in an Emmy-winning performance as Hitler.
Lots of famous faces in this movie, though: Diane Cilento, Simon Ward, Adolfo Celli, etc.
Anyway, it goes on sale tomorrow, so I'll be writing it up tonight.
-
The other one I got was MANDINGO which I'll watch tomorrow.
-
I think I will watch BURNT OFFERINGS which has Oliver Reed in bathing trunks and a couple of other people too.
-
Hmm... I'm actually sort of tempted to head down the Virgin Megastore in a few minutes in order to get the OCR of In The Heights when they put it on the shelves after midnight. Hmm...
-
They make it seem all about that last note, but aren't a million people singing along with that note in the actual show?
-

Nope. It's only her. With a lot of reverb. However, there is now an "alternative" ending where she can take a breath in the middle of the note.
-
I thought all the girls were power-singing "ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah" throughout the note, concealing up any issues on that note. Or at least it seemed that way the last time I saw the show live.
-
You know, when they turn around in the cheerleader outfits that spell out Elle Woods
-
Or do they just spell out ELLE???
-
OMIGOD! I do! ;)

Yes, I was amazed by that. Oh Puhleese, I even know that song by heart. If they'ver REALLY always wanted to be Elle, they would know every word on the CD by heart
-
Hmm... I'm actually sort of tempted to head down the Virgin Megastore in a few minutes in order to get the OCR of In The Heights when they put it on the shelves after midnight. Hmm...
I pre-ordered it. I sort of forgot about it. Cool.

The ensemble is singing backup during the held note, but they are doubling the orchestra too. They sing in shorter phrases, and get to take a breath each measure.
-
Well, I know all of Lucy Van Pelt's songs from Charlie Brown by heart, and I'd never get cast as.... oh wait a second

*And some of the women in the ensemble are singing crazy-high at the end of that song.

And where were the cameras at the time?
-
It was 1973. I think they had photos back then. :)
-
This is just a quick note as it is 9:30 P.M. Pacific Time and I'm heading to bed but wanted to say thank you for making feel so welcome to Everyone!! And all the tips that have been given me! Jose, you are a wealth of information and so was Ginny! Great advise, Cranberry Deli will keep it in mind as well! I've written everything down and will refer to them often. I'll be back to visit tomorrow when work is a little slow.
-
Heading down to bed now.
Good night!
-

-
Jose - have you seen THE VISIT at the Signature?
No, I haven't, Fred. But there is a chance I may sneak down to visit The Visit.
-
Nobody here but us chickens. But, it's been a grand day of posting. Nothing like the Initials Game to get people off their buttcheeks.
-
Of course, it's amusing that everyone deserts the jernt just a few posts shy of 400. Natch, Gloria, natch.
-
One GUEST and me - a gruesome twosome.
-
No new notes till 400.
-
Nothin' but WUSSBURGERS.
-
Well, I'll just do a few more postings.
-
And when I'm done, I'll change the topic.
-
There must be one final GG to do - hmmm - Gale Garnett (We'll Sing In The Sunshine) - don't think anyone did it, although we had no list update after page eight.
-
400.
