Well, you've read the notes, the notes flew by faster than a speeding bullet, and now it is time for you to post until the speedy cows come home.

And the word of the day is: BRUMMAGEM!

Welcome eleven GUESTS.

to DR TCB!!!
-
Dang---I just missed Singdaw!
-
After seeing my DH endure a kidney stone, I send DR TCB extra-strength non-kidney stone vibes!
-
For some reason, that makes me think of Danise and wonder how she's doing.
Also glad to see DR Jane around these here parts, although I keep missing her when she's on.
-
The cats are telling me it's time to go back to bed, so...
-
Morning all (specifically Larry since he and I are here alone).
-
Good morning, all! Hi, Ben.
I'm quite tired: my dreams were all about being lost and both quite disconcerting. In the first one, I was bicycling around Scotland with a lady friend. A lot of the dream had to do with lousy lodging. When i woke up, I realized the person in the dream with whom I was traveling is an Abbey Road Studio/EMI Records friend who's been suffering from cancer. My fear is that she's really ill and her spirit came for a vist, so I emailed her ths morning to check on her.
My second dream was that Randy and Jo came to visit me and we were going to a Saturday matinee of something. The next thing I knew, we were completely lost on a highway outside of Manhattan with no hope of making the matinee. The cherry on the ice cream would have been having the Macbeths in it as well.
Today, some work here, followed by a trip to Toyland and the 42nd Street library.

Nice squirrel.

Good morning, fellow Dear Readers. That is all.
-
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And it looks like it's going to be quite a nice day here in NYC. :)
-
Tuesday morning greetings! The June edition of Grantseeking Basics is scheduled for today and my coworker, Joy, is subbing for me. Please send her some vibes for a good audience and cooperative technology!
-
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ to Joy for an appreciative audience and cooperative technology!
As for the Topic of the Day...
B&W: -Still need to think about this.
Color: "Dances With Wolves", "Hero" (the Jet Li movie from 2004)
Thanks, DearReaderLaura DR! Wish I could claim the photo credit myself. :-\
An alternate B&W:
THE THIRD MAN
They don't come much better than that one.
-
Question:
Does anybody on this board live in Texas?
Specifically, Austin or San Antonio?
-
Damn damn damn damn damn.
The posts got all the way to the last page yesterday before someone took my OTHER MD - Mark Damon, star of Life Begins at 17 and The Party Crashers.
-
TOD is very interesting....
B/W - The Day the Earth Stood Still OR The Fountainhead
Color - The Red Shoes
-
Good morning!
A little cooler this morning and supposedly not as humid today. I won't know because I'll be inside all day.
-
Last night on TCM I watched THE OSCAR written by friend of DR CP, Mr Harlan Ellison. It is a movie that is not only OVER THE TOP - it is a movie that raise the BAR and then jumps over it.....
-
DR MBARNUM you will like THE BUBBLE, I think. I ordered the DVD, and I wish the soundtrack was available.
-
Page Two WIZARD OF OZ Dance!!!
-
Did anyone do M'el Dowd yesterday? I thought of her right before I went to bed last night.
-
I'll have last night's THE MOLE to watch at some point today or tonight.
I'll be working on THE FURIES today. Lots of bonuses, so not sure how much of the set I'll get done.
-
Depending on time and work finished, I may be able to get to a Blu-ray today. If MAD MEN on Blu-ray comes in the mail, I may start with it. If it doesn't arrive until tomorrow, I'll find something else HD to watch, either on Blu-ray or HD-DVD.
-
I think for me, the problem with THE INVADERS is that as the series progresses, there are just too many aliens in too many prominent positions for David Vincent to possibly have a chance of combating them all. The creator of the series also felt this way (mentioned in the set's sole commentary track), but I felt that way before I heard him say so.
-
THE OSCAR. Yes, it's hammy and way beyond the fringe. But damn if despite his horrible, obnoxious treatment of everyone, I wasn't pulling for Frank Fain as that envelope was opened. I even felt guilty feeling so bad for him because he would have been even more impossible if he had won.
Oops. Spoiler. Sorry. :D
-
TOD:
B&W: THE THIRD MAN
Color: THE PIRATE
-
TOD:
B & W: Woody Allen's MANHATTAN
COLOR: Vincente Minnelli's YOLANDA AND THE THIEF
Now, should you want to get into the area of aspect ratios - 'scope, etc. . .
COLOR: Dario Argento's SUSPIRIA has some of the finest scope cinematography.
B & W: Alfred Hitchcock's REBECCA for pre-1950's.
-
Jose - Do you want to pick up your THE VISIT ticket for Friday night before you go away in case of any logistics problem? (Or just meet you there on Friday night?)
-
Tonight on tv for :
Canadian Idol (they pick the top 22)
Hell's Kitchen
And In Plain Sight (starts here tonight).
-
BK (from the notes) I didn't find the message you left harsh at all.
The whole thing should have taken only one or two calls. The fact that she lied repeatedly and dragged this out wasted your time. I think you should have reported her anyways.
-
How did we get all the way through yesterday without mentioning Mark Damon!
AS for the TOD: I am stumped...can't think of a thing...was the cinematrography in Steve Reeves' HERCULES good? I recall there being something very enticing about it.
-
That's some cinematography, all right! ;)
(http://i1.iofferphoto.com/img/1158217200/_i/14152158/1.jpg)
-
And yet THE OSCAR has that glorious Percy Faith score.
-
True, DR JMK, and all of those leftover HARLOW and THE CARPETBAGGERS sets and costumes.
-
And yet THE OSCAR has that glorious Percy Faith score.
Yes, I wore out that soundtrack LP.
-
Heading down now to check the mail (STILL haven't received my first Deep Discount order though it shipped last week. Must be coming by mule train.) Then, I'll think about what's for lunch.
WBBL.
-
My DD order is on the same mule, DR MATTH.
-
Color - Black Narcissus
Black and white - Blonde Venus
-
Black Narcissus is a stunning color film, but subtle. For eye-popping Technicolor color, Singin' In The Rain, which, in its IB Tech prints resembles not one whit the brown thing that is the DVD.
-
The original color prints of The Umbrellas of Cherbourg were spectacular.
And the original IB Tech prints of The Searchers would be right up there with the greats - and again they resemble the current DVD not one or even two whits.
-
And Sundays and Cybele has astonishing black and white photography.
-
And one other thing - I'm up.
-
Welcome twelve GUESTS.
-
Since I couldn't go for a walk today, here are some photos from the patio:
-
There are eggs on the leaf behind the butterfly
-
DR Laura - how is your ankle today? Are you applying the R.I.C.E. (http://www.rice.edu/~jenky/sports/ankle.sprain.html)
treatment?
-
Yes we do, yes we here in Mooresville have our very own Super Wal Mart which I just visited this morning. It is all shiny and new, the parking lot was full, and I got the cables I needed.....it is now a shorter drive if we must go to Wal Mart......
-
***NO KIDNEY STONE VIBES***
to DR TCB!!!
I was kididng, Coleslaw. I saw that I had missed my milestone, so I was just looking for something, and didn't want to leave any stone unturned (or celebrated).
-
Must be on my way to do a few errands now, after which I shall continue proofing various and sundried music charts.
What do you call it?
I can tell you from personal experience that the citizens of New Jersey call it "soder."
After seeing my DH endure a kidney stone, I send DR TCB extra-strength non-kidney stone vibes!
I am sorry...... I am sorry. I should have put a smilie face.
-
We hope you don't get a kidney stone anyway.
We hope you don't get a kidney stone anyway.
Thanks, Laura. I actually have had them several times when I was younger (hmm, obviously I didn't have them when I was older), and believe me, I am not a good patient when I have one.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
that NONE of us ever get a kidney stone!

Good Afternooon!
DR FJL - I'll just meet you at the theatre.

I think cheesecake sounds better than compression.
-
I think I've seen cheesecake recipes that call for a can of compressed milk. ;)
-
I like the cheesecake better too. Compression sounds painful at this point.
-
Back from several errands and shall now begin proofing, although I have this incredible craving for a Nate 'n' Al's pastrami sandwich, so I may take the lead sheets over there.

I take anti-compressants.

If you click on the "View the Pop vs. Soda statistics" link and then scroll down to your state (or whatever state you want to look at), it's there that they show what the "others" are.
-
Thanks George. Here's the link http://popvssoda.com:2998/stats/ALL.html, but good grief, if they are counting what some of these people say this is a really bad survey.

Back to the salt mines
-
Proofed some music, did more errands and am more than a little surprised to find us on page three.

I didn't go to Nate 'n' Al's - maybe later in the week.

At long last page four.

My DD order is on the same mule, DR MATTH.
My mule via a circuitous route finally did arrive today. However, I placed ANOTHER order, and that burro hasn't yet left the ranch.

My mule via a circuitous route finally did arrive today. However, I placed ANOTHER order, and that burro hasn't yet left the ranch.
I ordered the new "Company" last Monday, it was shipped last Wednesday and STILL isn't here. :P
-
I think another black and white movie that's just stunning to look at is THE MALTESE FALCON. Also, I was impressed with KEY LARGO the last time I watched that.
-
Thanks for all the vibes for Joy. She sent me an email, saying that the program went fine. I'm due back the day of the July edition of Grantseeking Basics.
-
I did not begin THE FURIES and won't today. Instead, I selected TWILIGHT ZONE-THE MOVIE for viewing on Blu-ray tonight.
-
I spent all afternoon with THE OFFICE, and now I'm two episodes away from finishing the season, so I'll do that tonight before I start on THE TWILIGHT ZONE.
Among the episodes I watched was "Phyllis' Wedding" which is one of the more hysterical episodes with Michael wanting to be the center of attention and getting himself ejected from the ceremony.
-
My mule brought disc 2 of John Adams, so now I can watch episodes 3, 4, & 5!
-
J.J. Abrams (ALIAS, MISSION IMPOSSIBLE III) directed two episodes of THE OFFICE during the third season, and one of them was the hilarious episode which featured a bat in the office. Jim pretends he's been bitten and is turning into a vampire creeping out Dwight. Fall down funny.
-
My mule brought disc 2 of John Adams, so now I can watch episodes 3, 4, & 5!
Are you enjoying them as much as I did?
-
Another wonderful episode had to do with safety hints in the office with Michael demonstrating how trying working can be by feigning suicide. Just loved it when they got Ryan to try to talk him down. Stanley saying, "O.K., temp, don't pretend you don't know why you were selected."
-
And when they have women's appreciation day and Michael takes the women to Victoria's Secret, the men all congregate in the women's lounge becuase it's so clean and nice in there. Michael's breakup with Jan is also so funny during this episode.
-
I'll be starting "Beach Day" when I go back down, one of the most memorable of the season 3 episodes when Pam breaks down and declares her feelings for Jim. Can't wait to see that again.
-
DR MattH - yes, I am enjoying John Adams very much. Abigail is one of my personal heroines and John is one of my favorite figures from American history. I've read the McCullough book on which the series is based, plus a lot of other Adams material and this treatment is so good.
-
Through e-mail, I get a daily comic strip set in a library called Unshelved (http://www.unshelved.com). It's pretty funny. But in today's e-mail, they mention a fairly new comic strip about working (or not) in an office, called My Life In A Cube (http://www.mylifeinacube.com/): Daily Reflections From My Work Cubicle, by Shane Johnson. This is funny, too. :D
Just had to share.
-
Thanks, DR George. Unshelved is very popular in my department and the new "cube" series should be, too.
-
MY mule brought me a pre-approved credit card application.
-

Cool! :)

Didn't feel good today so I am home watching a Bollywood movie...SIKANDER E AZAM (1965) starring Dara Singh, Mumtaz, Prithviraj Kapoor, Helen and Veena. It is the story of Alexander the Great and it is quite good!
(http://www.indiaweekly.com/dvdImages/b4013.jpg)
-
MY mule brought me a pre-approved credit card application.
I get two or three of these a week. My lord, I'd be in SUCH debt if I got all of these offered cards and started charging stuff. Geez!
-
OK. Heading down now to pick back up with the last two episodes of THE OFFICE and then on to Rod Serling land (well, the less-than-great movie based on his idea).
-
Spoo!
WBBL.
-
Today is my brother Randy's birthday. He just called me to tell me that he had gone out to our dad's house to mow the grass. Sometime between now and May 28, when I returned to Manhattan, someone has broken into the house, emptied the garage and taken most of the furniture that hadn't been claimed. Randy said the trsailor had become stuck in the mud and they clearly had a major problem getting their loot off of my dad's property. He was waiting for the police when he called me.
-
WUTHERING HEIGHTS is a gorgeous black and white film.
Has anyone mentioned TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD?
SUNSET BOULEVARD?
THE APARTMENT?
-
Golly, I wonder who in the world might have broken into Elmore's dad's house?
-
Oh, DR Elmore, I'm sorry to hear about that! What a way for Randy to have to spend his birthday.

Just read that Cyd Charisse died.
-
Yikes, DR Elmore! I'm so sorry to hear about the break-in.
I've had 5 over the years---4 at the old house and one at the new one. One thing I learned was not to be too hasty with the burglary report, because I kept discovering things that were missing for months after I filed it.
-
I just heard a story about a young boy in Brooklyn who was murdered as some kids tried to steal his ipod. That is just horrifying. I tracked down the address of the family to send them condolences. The family had sent him to school in PA to get him away from some of the bad kids in East Flatbush. He sounded like a good kid with a good family, and then this happens. Very depressing.
-
Yes, the long and leggy Miss Charisse has passed away.
-
TOD:

Yes, the long and leggy Miss Charisse has passed away.

Did Cyd dance the credits for all of the Matt Helm movies?

I was surprised to read that Cyd was only five-foot-six. . . .well, she does look shorter in THE HARVEY GIRLS. . . .

Sorry to read about Ms Charisse's passing.

I could try to imply something by saying that I didn't go to work today either; but nobody would believe that Mike and I were even in the same state!

Watching The Gang's All Here.
-
Good Evening!
Since I was truly getting a bit stir-crazy cooping myself up in the apartment earlier, I went ahead and headed down to Central Park to talk a walk around The Reservoir. It really was a perfect day for a walk, and I think it had been at least two or three months since I had been down there.
I really do love walking around the Reservoir. Since it's far from perfectly round, there's always something new to see around each bend. It was nice to be distracted by Nature and New York City for a while.
-
MY FOOT ITCHES!!!
And it won't be unwrapped until Friday morning - arrrgh!

MY FOOT ITCHES!!!

I think you need to eat ice cream. It won't stop the foot from itching, but it tastes good.

-
Ah. Is that what they're calling it these days? ;)
No.
-
I know a couple of people here said they liked MAD MEN.
I was just wondering for anyone who watched season 1 if the first two episodes are very representative of what is to come. Or does the season get better?
I don't hate it. But i've watched the first tho shows, and i'm not in love with it. I hate smoking, cheating and philandering. ANd it seems like that is all they do!
-

Sounds like a plan. ;D
-
Sorry to hear about your troubles DR Elmore.
Vibes for you and your brother.

-
DR Jennifer - Keep watching. I actually think it helps to watch the show as sort of a period piece. Yes, they smoked cigarettes. Everywhere. The first couple of episodes lay the groundwork for some of the larger plots to come.
-
I think you need to eat ice cream. It won't stop the foot from itching, but it tastes good.
Outstanding advice, DR Cillaliz!

I gotta tell you.

Today, I received a package from Amazon.com and in this package were the DVDs, "Soldier's Girl" and "Wonder Boys." Also in the package was the CD, "Susan Egan Live!" ;D
-
Time for me to leave, go shopping, go to my sister's house then go home. Until later. :)
-
DR MattH - yes, I am enjoying John Adams very much. Abigail is one of my personal heroines and John is one of my favorite figures from American history. I've read the McCullough book on which the series is based, plus a lot of other Adams material and this treatment is so good.
I also enjoyed the book. Last night I was tired & not feeling great. Honestly, I expected to fall asleep during the show, instead it woke me up. I was completely engrossed & am looking forward to the second episode tonight.
-
Oh, DR Elmore, I'm sorry to hear about that! What a way for Randy to have to spend his birthday.
It sure is. I hope there wasn't anything in there you will miss.
-
Just read that Cyd Charisse died.
Oh, I'll have to write DR Penny. She is the one who told me that lady that taught some of my ballet classes, when I was young, was the instructor/studio owner's wife Cyd. Later they divorced but she kept his last name.
-
DR Jane - just make sure you're not eating when they show what Abigail was enduring while John was getting the Declaration of Independence approved :P
-
Thank you Singdaw. They are SLOWLY improving.

I'm watching AFI's 10 Top 10.

Thanks, Jane. Enjoy J & A!
-
I'm hungry.
I think DR CP has some very lovely personal Cyd Charisse stories, perhaps he will be around and share one or two.
-
:o Dance!
-
DR JENNIFER - if those things bother you about the characters, I don't think MAD MEN is going to get any more enjoyable for you.
-
That was a most unseemly story, DR Jrand!
-
Yes, I know, DR LAURA. I think it will be deleted.
-
There no one will ever know.....except us and the chickens.

Oh man, I turned on the end of America's Got Talent while waiting for the 10:00 news and heard the last contestant who was an opera singer. He was incredible and made me cry.

-
Oh, dang, I missed the unseemly story.
-
Unseemly but funny.
It's on IMDB if anyone is curious....and it was funnier yesterday. :'(
-
Very shocked about Cyd Charisse. Thanks for sharing the news. If I had known earlier, I would have watched IT'S ALWAYS FAIR WEATHER tonight instead of the film I chose instead (from the same year).
-
The mailman delivered a package of Bollywood movie today.
-
I've been watching THE BANDWAGON, "The Broadway Ballet" from SINGIN' IN THE RAIN and now I must make the choice between BRIGADOON, SILK STOCKINGS or IT'S ALWAYS FAIR WEATHER. . .maybe just "The Red Blues" and "Baby, You Knock Me Out" then all of BRIGADOON. . . .
-
My new window shades were delivered today. My neighbor accepted the delivery for me and then wasn't home from the time I got off work until about 9:00 PM tonight so I got them, but decided not to hang them tonight. I actually need to write a motion and brief tonight, so I better get busy.
-
But I did inspect the shades and am very curious to see them when they are up. I still haven't painted the walls yet, so that will be the next big project. Not going to even think about that right now
-

The character of Don Draper is one of the most enigmatic characters in recent TV fiction. But in learning his secrets, you will have to endure the things you seem to object to. Your choice.
-
Finished the last two episodes of THE OFFICE. "Beach Day" was great as Pam finally vented her feelings to all.
-
And the season finale involved several in the office going after a corporate job. Great ending that set up the fourth season beautifully.

DR CILLA LIZ has new shades!!!
-
I finally found some info on Hancher Auditorium at the University of Iowa. The water is starting to go down, but they estimate there is still 18 inches of water on the stage. I can't even imagine what that means for the pit and the house. So sad.
Here's the stage door today as the water is receding

When I get the shades installed I'll take a photo
-
Shade Photos will be much anticipated.
That is a sad photo.......

Bedtime for Bonzo!
DR MBARNUM - I didn't realize Alexander the Great had such a great cleft chin!
-
Then I watched TWILIGHT ZONE THE MOVIE on Blu-ray. I had fears it wasn't going to be very sharp when the Dan Ackroyd-Albert Brooks prologue started, but once the four stories began, it began to really look like HD. Obviously, "It's a Great Life" looked the best with its wild creature creations and cartoon look. And John Lithgow's final segment was really the best one by far. I need to pull out my TWILIGHT ZONE set and watch William Shatner's version of the story.
-
I concluded my evening with LOVE ME OR LEAVE ME. I got her past "Shakin' the Blues Away" and her quickie marriage to Marty Synder. I'll pick it up there tomorrow and finish it.

*Listening to Zero Mostel singing If I Were A Rich Man* I love this!

Just to keep my minimal posts of today thematically related, Percy Faith's only Oscar nomination.

Betsy worked on her Masters at UoI, and has been horrified by all the pics coming out of there.
-
Heading down to bed now.
Good night!
-
Cyd Charisse's passing is so sad...man, did she ever have the legs, huh? I would kill for a pair of legs like that. Of course, they probably wouldn't have looked like that without all that dancing, right?
-
Page 8! Well, I do have 2 interviews on Friday and one next Tuesday so hopefully something will come up soon. Thanks for all the positive vibes everyone has been sending! :)

Here's the blog I've been following, it's from the Hancher people http://www.hancher.typepad.com/ there are a number of others. When was Betsy there?

Well, goodnight everyone...was just checkin' in!
-
Well... According to my roommate I fell asleep at least two time while we were watching TV tonight... And since I really can't remember some of what we watched tonight, I guess I did, so...
Goodnight.

TIme for me to sleep too. Night

Man, it seems like everyone I worked with is passing away these days: Chuck Heston, Stan Winston, now Cyd Charisse.
I did my favourite dinner theatre show ever with Cyd Charisse at Country Dinner Playhouse in Dallas. It was MOVE OVER, MRS. MARKHAM, an hilarious British farce by Ray Cooney. I played a very flamboyant decorator who everyone thought was gay, but was actually boffing the Swedish maid. It changed a director's whole perception of me and we worked together continually after that. Cyd also brought two master farceurs with her...Bill Tregoe and a wild Aussie, Peter Pagan, who were a joy to act with. She and Tony Martin were very nice to me and always included me in after-show dinners and whatnot with her inner circle.
If anybody went up on stage, she could always bail them out; it was only went you weren't standing where you were supposed to be, that she got confused. I guess being a dancer, everything was locked to blocking and movement.
I saw her a few years back at the City of Angels/City of Light French Film Festival in LA. As always, she was very gracious and at least acted like she remembered me...whether she did or not.

BK, page 119...I'll knock several more off before bed

Excellent!

I just finished the madness that's known as The Oscar. Perhaps Pogue has some Harlan Ellison stories - just how much of the madness is his?
