Well, you've read the notes, the notes were not OVERDUE, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they'll be home as soon as Colony pays its OVERDUE invoice.

And the word of the day is: RENASCENT!

Welcome fourteen GUESTS!

Happy Summer Solstice.

I'm tired, but it's too hot to go to bed just yet.

DR JoseSPiano...
What else do you offer up on Craig's List? ??? ;)
-
Today I am singing at the 275th anniversary of the founding of the church where I sing.
In colonial Connecticut, you had to have a charter for a Congregational Church before you could establish a town, and the Meeting House was where the foundling "Government" took place. Connecticut's current Lieutenant Governor will be attending, amongst other officials.
-
Good morning, DR PDXJane! Are you and your sister gearing up for your big NYC trip? :)
-
The Colony needs a colostomy.
That is all.
-
And the word of the day is: RENASCENT!
Back in the early days of television, Loretta Young would look absolutely RENASCENT every time she made one of her patented, swirling ENTRANCES.

TOD:
Book: The Oldways Table, by Gifford and Baer-Sinnott. The premise is good: get away from over-processed food, and back to actual cooking. Unfortunately, the authors are a pair of over-politicized liberals who make sure everyone knows that they are liberals by bringing up how they are liberals at every opportunity, and they're so proud of how liberal they are that they are just about to burst. Like, uh, what's that got to do with the food? Bleh. (If they were bragging about their being conservatives, it would be equally irritating, and equally bleh.)
CD: the London recording of Sunday In the Park with George. I miss the full orchestrations, but I love hearing voices other than Mandy and Bernadette's in the leads. It helps me focus on what is being sung, and the joy of the music.
DVD: The Two Towers, a few chapters at a time (say, six or eight). I really don't have time to watch an entire movie these days. Watching a film in pieces, picking it up and "reading" it in smaller bites, that's about what I can manage these days.
-
And I've tons of data entry to do at work today.
Hasta.

DR TCB - the money is on Nik Cage, as he used to be known.

Well.....it might turn out to be ALL MY SON(S) - but I have told the errant and truant and ill person to let me know by Saturday if he wants to be in the show or not, and no more missed rehearsals or he can buy a ticket to get into the show......told him nicely of course.

A big event is the Sun entering Cancer (5:00PM PDT) - a sacred turning point of the year that is also the beginning of summer in the Northern Hemisphere. Domestic and family issues are thrust into the forefront of your consciousness for examination over the next four weeks. It's a great night to listen to golden oldies or dance to your favorite music. Get ready for more planetary shenanigans tomorrow morning when the red planet Mars opposes dreamy Neptune.

DR JOSE why are you going to Florida now? Isn't Broadway Bares on Sunday?

Off to work.

DR JRand - Will the director be stepping into the soon-to-be-possibly-vacant role?
-
DR JRand - I will be heading down to Ft. Lauderdale for some work as a music director for Norwegian Cruise Lines. I just got hired for the gig two days ago. Alas, I will be missing "Broadway Bares", but I'm sure I'll be seeing some pics and videos sometime down the line.

Good morning, all! Thje alarm went off at 6:30 but my body refused to move until 8:00. I'm moving - slowly - but I'm up and about and planning my day. The water is turned off at Toyland today between 11am and 2pm, so I will work here until 11, and head to the 42nd Street NYPL. BK, re: COLONY
Unless they are going out of business, i'm sure you will get your money eventually. 2 months is not that long (it might feel long for you).
It's annoying. And if you don't want to sell to them again that is fine. But sometimes it's overwhelming being in accounts payable when every one is calling and you don't have the money to send (don't know if that is their issue).
Just keep calling. And sending the invoices.
-
re: the daytime emmys.
In my tv it says they are from 8-11pm.
But our paper updates the tv guide each day.
And it says 8-10pm with a new premiere MVP at 10pm.
I saw a promo for this, and even though they said it was a soap network show (implying they made it), i think it is the Canadian soap MVP: the secret lives of hockey wives (i believe on abc it is called mvp: he shoots, she scores).
If it's the same then it's about the lives of hockey players and their wives. I won't say it was great. But i watched it. There was one couple that completely fascinated me, and kept me watching.
-
Regarding the Colony, they are the most overpriced CD store in NYC. The last thing I bough there was BK's A HOLLYWOOD CHRISTMAS (before he was selling online) and that was because it was the only place in NYC I could find it (I had checked at least a dozen stores). They charged $25. Although I don't know for sure, I assume that because of their location, most of their customers are tourists.
BK mentioned Jason Grae. He was in NYC Monday for "Broadway by the Year 1979" and will be back in mid-July for two events. He will be part of the Musicals in Mufti Larry Grossman revue (with Lorna Luft, Liz Larson and a couple of others) and also for Town Hall's A NIGHT AT THE OPERETTA 2 along with Marc Kudish and the wonderful Nancy Anderson.

Bruce, you have actor friends in NYC.
I'm sure that some of them have played "Godfather=types" in the past.
Why don't you have one of them stop by Colony Records to pick up your check?
No violence. No overt threats. Just "atmosphere".

Well, 'tis time for me to head down to my friend's place to watch his adorable son for a few hours. I shall have my laptop with me, so I should be able to post. -Apparently, the baby is still dealing with a serious case of jetlag, and has been sleeping until around 1:00pm. We shall see.

There is more cloud cover this morning than any other morning this week. I think we have rain in our futures, if not today than certainly tomorrow.

We are dry!

In theory, DR Jennifer, when Colony sold all 20 copies at their "markup", they made the money to not only pay BK but earn a profit. They sold out, after all, and were requesting 20 more copies.
It's only good business sense to "pay" the supplier when the supplies have been sold.
-
singdaw, Good morning! No, just one which is PDXJane. I do have 2 brothers that start with a "J" though and dad too! Mom is gone now but she started with a "J" also. Pretty funny, huh?
I have an interview this morning in about an hour. *listening to Peggy Lee singing "Is That All There Is?*

I should be packing, but how long can it take to pack for one night?

I'm heading down to shave and shower before heading out on my usual Friday errands.

Must remember to pack the theater tickets!

Last day of work was yesterday. Worked just a half day as I still had 12 hours of personal time I hadn't taken and couldn't get paid for. So today I'm actually getting paid, PTO that is. Now today I have 2 interviews with temp agencies but they know I'm not interested in anything that isn't temp to hire or direct hire. *crossing fingers* I was due for a raise so hopefully something more than I was making before.
-
Or should I carry the theater tickets on me so there's no chance of their getting lost?

FJL, It usually takes me a half hour or so to pack for one day away. Where are you going again? What are you going to see?

Weather Forecast for Portland, Oregon: 80 to 85 degrees, zero chance of rain! Amazing, huh? Hope the air conditioner keeps working today.

Hot, hot, hot!
Another mosquito interrupted what was, otherwise, a good sleep under AC-cooled conditions.
Damn! Damn! Damn! Damn! I HATE MOSQUITOES!
I was up at 3 a.m. and searched high and low for any sign of a mosquito. I had been bitten twice...once on the arm and once on my back.
When I could not locate the beastie, I had a brainstorm. I took a bottle of Campho-Phenique (which is rather odoriferous) and dabbed a bit on various points of my body. I took a chance on that being a deterrent.
It worked. I slept soundly until the alarm rudely awakened me.
As I was doing my daily ablutions, I spied (in the bathroom mirror) the varmint hovering over my left shoulder, ready to make a landing. I smashed that little sucker into oblivion. And as small as it was, I had a nice reunion with my purloined hemoglobin before washing it off my hands.
-
FJL, Sounds like you'll have a good time. I've heard that is a very good show but haven't seen it myself. *sending good traveling vibes your way*
-
Well, I'll sign off for now and come back after my interview. Ciaio for now! :)

Local TV weather guessers had promised us a cooling trend would begin last night. They were wrong.
We are, apparently the recipients of a changed weather pattern that now sees the system that has been baking the L.A. basin moving into our area today.
Record highs (of course!) are predicted. We can't just have a nice summer day....it either has to be one of the coolest on record or one of the hottest. Nothing but extremes for us!
The fog, they are now saying, should make a token return tomorrow and cool off the coastal communities.
I'll see it when it happens.

I was given a huge gift certificate by one of my choirs (not the one Julie's in--though that choir gave me an equally huge gift card) to an actual brick and mortar independently owned CD store in PDX, so I schlepped the kids over yesterday and brought home a haul, including:

Elis Regina 2-fer
Jobim/Bonfa 2-fer
The US release of Sergio's new one (I've had the Japanese release for months)

And I think there may even be more. The store had a cool little vintage toy section, so the boys got an actual real-to-goodness Gumby (ie?) and some of those vintage cowboy and indian plastic fighting figure sets.

Right now I am listening to Elis--BK, if you have not heard Elis, you must check her out.

Passenger lights cigarette, punches flight attendant and diverts flight to Denver
by Grant Martin Jun 18th 2008 @ 11:00PM
We may have a new contender for worst passenger on an aircraft ever, ladies and gentlemen. Sorry Kyla and girls who think they're prettier than the rest of the plane, you may have met your match.
On a Jetblue flight between San Francisco and New York this past Tuesday, Christina Szele just couldn't wait any any longer for a smoke and decided to light up in the cabin. Obviously this has been outlawed on planes for years, so a flight attendant went back to ask her to put it out.
In response to the request, Szele instead verbally abused the flight attendant with racist remarks, provoking futher concern from the crew. After further agitation, several employees decided to restrain her and were able to secure her well enough to apply flexible handcuffs.
Untill she broke out of them. And punched the flight attendant that she was earlier harrasing in the face. Great idea.
Things got so far out of hand that the pilot had to divert the flight into Denver and have the woman removed from the aircraft and arrested. Now she faces 20 years in prison and up to 250,000 in fines.
I think that they should have just thrown her out of the plane with a parachute.
Me...I vote to leave off the parachute.

ASSOCIATED PRESS (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,368952,00.html)
WASHINGTON STATE HOME MOVED BY BARGE TO CANADA
Thursday , June 19, 2008
HUNTS POINT, Wash. —
Rolling the waterfront house onto a barge on Lake Washington took just over 20 minutes. The house's maritime trip to British Columbia will take a bit longer.
In an effort to preserve a spectacular home at a bargain price, a Canadian family is moving the 3,360-square-foot, two-story house from its lakeshore location in this suburb east of Seattle to a site near Nanaimo on Vancouver Island.
According to public filings, the former owners bought the home for $9.4 million; but they just wanted the 44,000-square-foot lot.
So they contacted Nickel Brothers House Moving USA Inc., which then listed the home for $335,000, including moving the entire thing.
"This saves 200 tons of waste that would go into a landfill," said Jeff McCord, of Nickel Brothers.
On Tuesday, after weeks of planning and preparations, crews rolled the house onto the barge, and the structure started its slow trip to Canada and its new owners, Tim and Jennifer O'Farrell.
"This is a good deal," Jennifer O'Farrell said. "If I were to build this house, it would be a minimum of twice as much."
Crews emptied the Tudor-style house, but kitchen fixtures and the hot tub were left in place. The home was built in 1979 and features leaded windows and hand-carved moldings.
"It's quite a spectacular house," McCord said. He added that a house can be moved and installed on a new lot for about half the cost of building a similar home.
Once on the barge, the house made its way across Lake Washington, then through the Ballard Locks and out through Puget Sound.
By noon Wednesday, the house had crossed the border.
The house should reach its new lot on Thursday, said Boyer Halvorsen, owner of Boyer Towing, the company actually transporting the house.

A Master Musician Kept His Life's Time In the Rhythm of Jazz

WASHINGTON POST (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/06/14/AR2008061401727.html)
A Master Musician Kept His Life's Time In the Rhythm of Jazz
By Matt Schudel
Washington Post Staff Writer
Sunday, June 15, 2008; C08
Bill Reichenbach never wanted to do anything except play the drums. When he was 5, he took apart a banjo and started beating out a rhythm on the soundbox.
Through the years, he built a solid reputation as a steady rhythmic anchor at Washington nightclubs and for touring big bands. He was never well known beyond the jazz circuit, but for one golden moment, he unexpectedly found himself at the launch of a new national phenomenon.
In 1961, Washington guitarist Charlie Byrd went on a State Department-sponsored tour of South America, where he and his band -- which did yet not include Reichenbach -- heard a gently infectious music that had come to prominence with the 1959 Brazilian film "Black Orpheus."
"When they got to Brazil and heard the new sound of the bossa nova, Charlie was really taken with it," Joe Byrd, Charlie Byrd's brother and longtime musical collaborator, recalled last week. "It was very lyrical and had all the components he liked."
Charlie Byrd decided to introduce the bossa nova into his repertoire, which was already an eclectic mix of blues, bebop and Bach. The sultry sounds that wafted north from Brazil didn't take root first in New York or Los Angeles or Miami. Instead, they landed in Washington.
Byrd began to hold rehearsals for a recording and asked Reichenbach to join the project as a drummer and percussionist. The other musicians included Byrd's brother (then known as Gene Byrd) on guitar and bass, Keter Betts on bass, Buddy Deppenschmidt on drums and saxophone superstar Stan Getz.
On the cold night of Feb. 13, 1962, the six musicians gathered in a fellowship hall at All Souls Unitarian Church at 16th and Harvard streets NW, where they made musical history. To the surprise of everyone, including the musicians who were there, the album they produced that night, "Jazz Samba," became an instant hit.
Other American musicians had recorded Brazilian music, but it never caught on until "Jazz Samba." Highlighted by Getz's sinuous saxophone and Byrd's understated guitar, the album stayed on the charts for 70 weeks and "set the '60s bossa nova craze in motion," in the words of a 2004 Jazz Times article. To this day, it remains the only jazz album to reach No. 1 on the Billboard pop chart.
If "Jazz Samba" introduced North America to the bossa nova, then the distinctive shimmer of its syncopated eight-note rhythm was defined by the drummers, Deppenschmidt and Reichenbach.
"It became the standard for American drummers first learning to play the bossa nova," said Chuck Redd, who spent 19 years playing drums with Byrd. "Bill listened to Brazilian drummers and assimilated it in his own way. He was one of the very first American drummers to grasp that."
Never heard of him or "Jazz Samba - but I bet "somebody" from Portland has.

I just got assigned another massive bunch of boxed sets. Aren't there some MAD MEN fans here? I'll be reviewing Season One--I've never seen the show, it seems a lot of you loved it, right?
DR MattH likes it (among others).
They just started airing it here in canada. And have aired 2 shows.
I watched the first two and had asked others if they were an accurate depiction of the season.
I didn't dislike it. But it's not my usual.
I mentioned there was a ton of smoking (basically every character all the time), cheating and i forget what else i said.
I'm curious if it's a more male oriented show, cause i think my dad menitoned he loved the first two shows.
-
I am very much looking forward to the Daytime Emmys tonight.
Hopefully some of my favorites will win.
-
Reichenbach was good, but the native Brasilians hated the American drummers--the thing about Bossa Nova is it doesn't have even eighths, though Americans try to play it that way. If you listen to the best Brasilian drummers (and there are a ton of them), they play with the time so magically it's almost like it's super putty, or something similar. That's why the first Brasilians to hit it big in America (Mendes and Wanderley) tended to use Brasilian drummers, like my late friend Claudio Slon, or Rubens Bassini or Dom Um Romao......

HOT SPELL WON'T BREAK
Southland heat that caused one death is forecast to continue.
By Carla Rivera and Molly Hennessy-Fiske
Los Angeles Times Staff Writers
June 20, 2008
Unseasonably warm weather and low humidity tightened its grip on Southern California on Thursday, breaking temperature records and prompting the highest June energy demand on record in Los Angeles.
And the worst is yet to come: The blistering heat is expected to peak today, with triple-digit temperatures, continued dry conditions and little relief until late into the weekend. The heat index posed a danger to human and animal life, authorities said. At least one heat-related death, of a woman in San Bernardino County, was reported.
The National Weather Service issued an excessive heat warning for temperatures of 105 degrees and above for most Los Angeles County valleys and mountains and Ventura County mountains for today. In addition, the relative humidity in most valley areas was forecast to be only 10% to 15% and in single digits in the deserts.
…
A temperature record was set Thursday in Woodland Hills at 109 degrees, and Oxnard tied its record of 88.

I'm watching The Best of the Electric Company, Vol 2, too too fun (speaking of Rita) :)
-
Yes, most of California is over here sizzling today.
National Weather Bureau has issued a heat advisory for the Bay Area, as well. And it's a "spare the air" day, too.
Baking in smog is what we are.
-
I am very much looking forward to the Daytime Emmys tonight.
Hopefully some of my favorites will win.
:D

Speaking of fromage where has DR stringcheese been?
Off and away, cutting same.

DR Ron, I'm worried that summer has arrived WAY too early for the Bay Area this year and we'll be in for a long hot one this summer. Last summer, we barely turned our A/C on, this year, we've used it more than last year already. Oy

There is no such thing as "too many macarons".
So true!! :D
-
Not at all, DR dB! I was off entertaining the troops... :D

The one time I went to New York, I went to Colony. I should've gone to Footlight first!! Anyway, I bought the London cast recordings of 1776 (which I've never seen ANYWHERE else) and Children of Eden (this is 1995...before the American premiere and revised version), a live concert recording of Chess, the London concert cast (but not recorded live) recording of Nine and a couple of other recordings that I don't remember. I spent more there than any other place in NYC.

Is DR sippystraw, in his first post on this page, telling us that he is -- literally -- wearing macaron pudding today?
DR Ron Pulliam - you may intepret my post in any manner that is pleasing to you. :P :)

Good Afternoon!
I had a GREAT time spending time with Chris, his son, Henry, and their dog, Betty. Henry did eventually wake up around 11:30 - Is that crying I here? - but he was a total angel once I walked into his room and took him out of his crib. -Unlike my niece, at least he remembers me. :-\
In any case... He really has gotten soooo big since the last time I saw him, but I guess 18-month-year-old boys have a habit of growing that way. And then once his Daddy got home, we had a great time catching up on things and life. It was a really nice way to spend a few hours today. :)
-
And for anyone who may be interested, here is Mario Lopez's "competition"...
Nick Adams (http://www.nickadams.biz/)
*I just watched last night's "Chelsea Lately" and heard about the recent 2x-ist "issue". Interesting. Very interesting.

DR George, that haul probably cost you almost the equivalent of the downpayment on your condo! :o

Or should I carry the theater tickets on me so there's no chance of their getting lost?
That's what I do.

The "hoodie" doings at ACL were one of the most hilarious Broadway scandals recently. :)

I'm listening to In the Heights, in my car, on my computer....lai lo lilo lai...
I can't seem to get Piragua out of my head. I just learned they are called raspado in Mexico. What do you know.

DR George, I emailed you a little piragua.... :)
Thanks! I can actually listen to it here at work. :D

DR Ron, I'm worried that summer has arrived WAY too early for the Bay Area this year and we'll be in for a long hot one this summer. Last summer, we barely turned our A/C on, this year, we've used it more than last year already. Oy
That's a fact! We're well into fire season right now and we don't usually see that until August or September. Fings ain't wot dey used ta be!
-
I've really liked what I've heard from In the Heights. I can't wait to get the CD...but I know I have to.
-
I can actually listen to it here at work.
But can you do the macarena?
-
But can you do the macarena?
No...but I love macaroons. Is that good enough?? ;D
-
Back from annoying errand, and to wipe it away I stopped at Nate 'n Al's and had a pastrami sandwich, which wich was, as always, superb.
-
Upon my return home, I had an e-mail waiting for me. I have no idea if it's just a conicidence, but it was from the owner of Colony Records, telling me the check was sent for the invoice. He carefully avoided saying whether it was sent last week as promised, but I suspect it was sent yesterday or today and hopefully it will arrive soon. He also said he still had copies of the CD - I told him that that's not what I was told by the person who actually purchased them, so someone is not clear on the issue of whether they sold them all.

It's pretty warm in the home environment, about seventy-seven, but the Handy Man's Man isn't showing up until later this afternoon, and then who knows if he'll get it fixed. The Handy Man now admits that it's probably always been the breaker and that it probably stems from the same problem the other breakers were having - a short somewhere on the line that he cannot get to. Hence, he'll probably have to rejigger this breaker, too. Since none of the other breakers have ever been an issue, hopefully that will, once and for all, solve the problems, but whether that can get done by dark or not is anyone's guess, although I've made it very clear that I do NOT wish to spend another evening trying to sleep in an eighty-degree plus house. But this is what he does - gets here so late that it's virtually impossible to finish because it ultimately gets dark out. I may give him another call and see if he can move up the time. He also said I'll get some sort of reimbursement for all the air conditioning parts replacements that were apparently unnecessary.

We went from a beautiful sunny day to pouring rain and hail and now we're back to a sunny day...all within about 30 minutes!
-
It's Friday afternoon. I've worked my butt off this week and will most likely work at least one day over the weekend, so I'm still at the office but am goofing off. Good grief, I used to be very good at this goofing off, now I'm out of practice. Of course it has been a year since I left the FPD.
-
Yes, I loved MAD MEN (though I felt it fell off a bit near the end of its season), and I'll be reviewing it on Blu-ray next week. DR JRand was also a major fan of the show.
-
DR Elmore (or anyone else):
What are your favorite recordings of THE MIKADO, PENZANCE and PINAFORE? I'm torn between the first recorded versions and the 60's D'Oyly Carter versions...
My favorite radio station has also instroduced me to the recordings of Peter Dawson. I'm in a shopping mood!
Maybe I should call Colon-y and ask if they have E.P.??
I thought we had a discussion of favorite MIKADO recordings when you saw the Carl Rose production. My favorite recording is the Sadlers Wells Opera recording with Clive Revill and John Wakefield, conducted by the great Alexander Faris.
As to PINAFORE and PIRATES, I prefer the old Sir Malcolm Sargent recordings on EMI-Angel with George Baker and Elsie morrison.

We had a "gully washer" about 3 p.m. that cooled things by about 10 degrees, so off went the A/C and on went the attic fan again. I'm sitting in my office right now with the window open and the attic fan pulling in lovely cool air. Very nice.
-
DR Ron Pulliam - you may intepret my post in any manner that is pleasing to you. :P :)
But I need guidance, from time to time, in order to know what degree of snark in which I might or might not indulge.

I am totally envious!
I can't remember the last time my gullies were washed!

I began my afternoon watching last night's MY LIFE ON THE D-LIST. Funny show, and Tom's policeman brother was kind of cute. Next week's show promises to be even more hilarious.
-
I am totally envious!

Can anybody?
-
Then I watched the next three episodes of THE STREETS OF SAN FRANCISCO. In the first one, Tom Bosley plays a small time crook who steals a money drop from the mob and spends the rest of the show running from both the police and a hitman. They end up on Alcatraz (but neither Clint Eastwood nor Sean Connery was there).
-
In the second episode, Earl Holliman and Jessica Walter played a formerly married couple trying to fleece an insurance company out of a big settlement.
-
Well, I just finished running some errands - all on foot - and according to my semi-newish Nike+Sportband, I walked 2.96 miles. *And I also think I may have put one too many boxes in the mailbox in front of my post office. After I deposited the last box, I checked to make sure it wasn't blocking the chute, well... Since I could no longer open the mailbox, well... However, I did go inside and tell one of the clerks about the problem. Alas, he just gave me one of those "What do you expect me to do about it?" looks through the double-paned bullet-proof glass.
-
And in the third episode, Rick Nelson played a flute-playing pimp who kills his "girls" when they get out of line. Rick looked fabulous, and one of the girls was played by Kay Lenz. Darlene Carr played the daughter of Karl Malden.
-
And now to finish up a final bit of laundry, and start packing for Fort La-Dee-Dah!
-
In the mail today was the review copy of GANGS OF NEW YORK on Blu-ray disc. It's due on July 1 as well, so I've got a bunch of stuff to watch this next week that all comes due on July 1: two more TV box sets in addition to STREETS OF SAN FRANCISCO and GANGS OF NEW YORK.
I'm going to be a busy little bee, but I'm still going to relax after finishing disc 2 of STREETS tonight by rewatching ENCHANTED. Can't wait to see it again.
-
They now know what the wiring problem is, but they have to go and get stuff to do it with, and they're telling me it "might" be today, or could be tomorrow. I've suggested strongly that it be today so I don't have to endure another night in an eighty-something degree house.
-
I'm merrily registering songs with ASCAP, something I've been very lax about.

I have been lying on the couch with my foot elevated while listening to cds.
May I say that John Adams is obnoxious and disliked.

Oh, wait. DR Matt H. already did.

Thank you for the information, DR Elmore. I must have missed it before, or at least forgot to write it down!

My DH has an interesting job coming up: "Dukefest"! It's a reunion of the cast members of THE DUKES OF HAZZARD. There will be 7 crews shooting, so I imagine it will be cut into a TV special.

I see that the new special editions of AN AMERICAN IN PARIS and GIGI, both two-disc editions, are coming out in September. Their Blu-ray counterparts come out in early 2009.
AN AMERICAN IN PARIS has been given the Ultra-Resolution treatment.
I'll wait for the Blu-rays, but since both DVDs were in dire need of new cleaned-up transfers, this is great news.
-
Guess I'll head down now to get the last STREETS OF SAN FRANCISCO watched for the day. Then, I'll find some other fun things to watch.
I'm putting off mopping the kitchen floor until tomorrow morning.

Spoo!

Sorry to sound snippy, DR edi! I'm a bit preoccupied at the moment.

There will also be a live concert with John Schneider's band. Don't know yet if Tom Wopat will be performing, but Cooter will be, I believe.

The first 5 episodes were filmed here; then they moved hte show out to LA. A dear friend from college worked on it and then went on to be an A.D. and production manager for some very successful series, including WITHOUT A TRACE.

The drunk passenger even looks a bit psychotic. I hope they lock her up for a long time.
-
What's wrong with what the woman did on the plane? Aren't we entitled to act however we choose - what does it matter that there are laws? We're entitled to not obey them, aren't we? Why can't we be drunk and punch people in the face if we're lighting up a cigarette on an airplane? Why do we have to pay attention when we're driving instead of being able to text? I just don't get it.
-
The drunk passenger even looks a bit psychotic. I hope they lock her up for a long time.
She reminds me of an actress from last season's CLOSER:

Oh, and for those who preorder the new book, quite a nifty little extra coming with it - a completely extra item, one that everyone will really like.

I know this isn't ASK BK DAY (Is it?), but you said you will be working several hours tomorrow with Mr. Spirtas for his Kevin Spirtas/Sean McDermott two-person show. Will you not be be working with Mr McDermott? Is he being totally ignored? Is he expected to just stand there during the staging with no patter and no movement to contribute?
-
Today I am singing at the 275th anniversary of the founding of the church where I sing.
In colonial Connecticut, you had to have a charter for a Congregational Church before you could establish a town, and the Meeting House was where the foundling "Government" took place. Connecticut's current Lieutenant Governor will be attending, amongst other officials.
Were you the original soloist?
-
DR TCB - the money is on Nik Cage, as he used to be known.
That should be no surprise. Didn't he previously eat a cockroach?

And they will be changing the title of the play to ALL MY GRANDFATHERS.

Ok. I am going to a funeral. I was able to put my shoe on just now. No leopard-spotted slippers, like last night.

I do not look forward to getting into my car (which is parked in the sun); a little weatherbug tells me it is 115F.

Jennifer, try not paying your bills for two months and see how understanding and forgiving your creditors will be.
-
Were you the original soloist?
:P No.
But DR MBarnum dated him for a while! :D
-

BK mentioned Jason Grae. He was in NYC Monday for "Broadway by the Year 1979" and will be back in mid-July for two events. He will be part of the Musicals in Mufti Larry Grossman revue (with Lorna Luft, Liz Larson and a couple of others) and also for Town Hall's A NIGHT AT THE OPERETTA 2 along with Marc Kudish and the wonderful Nancy Anderson.
It is always such a pleasure to see DR WEL posting again!

I watched the first episode (just started here) of IN PLAIN SIGHT.
I'm not sure if i liked it or not. It was okay. And the storyline was quite different. And Mary McCormack (sp?) was quite good. She reminds me a lot of holly hunter's character on SAVING GRACE.

Well, 'tis time for me to head down to my friend's place to watch his adorable son for a few hours. I shall have my laptop with me, so I should be able to post. -Apparently, the baby is still dealing with a serious case of jetlag, and has been sleeping until around 1:00pm. We shall see.

Wow, that word "until" is important to that sentence. I skipped that word and read that the baby was dealing with serious case of jetlag and has been sleeping around...

I've been absent more than usual this past week.
Last Saturday Magnus was in a distressed state - some antiflams have brought him back to his usual delightful happy self. I've been expecting (well the symptoms are there) Shingles to arrive back (it's been nearly 4 years). My visit to my GP and blood tests indicate that it is not the case - I'm still not convinced and staying with the medication for a few more days at least). The virsu has to be hit within 72 hours or there is nothing that can be done. Last time I had 10 - 12 weeks of being oh so very tired etc.
I'm probably OK - and so is Magnus. Please send the vibes to those really in need.

Pop Group "Mint Royale" have the #1 song in the UK. It is a version of "Singing In The Rain" which has some of the Gene Kelly lines "inserted".
To my ears it is a "mess". I don't really understand this techno/syntho DJ mix music.
Some of the UK pop music this year has been outstanding. This is about as interesting as L'ill Wayne!

Wiring has arrived and they are hard at work. I think I won't be going out to the cast party after all - I noticed it starts at six, and I would have had to already leave to be there, and I can't until I know this wiring thing is resolved, and do I really want to be in Friday night traffic for ninety minutes in this sort of heat.

No check arrived today - well, I did get a weird sort of check from some company in Chicago ordering five Evening Primrose - I fill in the amount up to a cap of $105 - they want some sort of discount, so I'll throw in the shipping and that's their discount.
-
Thank you BK and of course Et Al. (if Et Al is posting)
-
I wonder who the OZ singer is that has been "produced by BK/ I hope it is not another "Oz Idol".
So far there has only been one with any talent or orginality! (IMHO)
I've never watched the show - just heard the eventual CD tracks released by the winners and runners up!
I thought it was probably you.

The Saudis are expected to announce this weekend that they will be increasing their oil production by 200,000 barrels a day.

Sending vibes across the world to Tomovoz!

I just noticed that if you click on a quote, it takes you back to the original post where the quote came from.
I can't believe it took me this long to notice that, but I'm glad I did!

Good Evening!
The apartment smells like cookies! :)
*My roommate, Jim, is turning 30 tomorrow, and he's having a party - well two parties actually - both of which I will have to miss due to some work commitments and my travel arrangements. So, since I had been thinking of making some cookies this week already, and since it is his birthday, and since I won't be able to be there, and since I didn't really feel like packing my luggage yet, I decided to make a batch of his favorite cookies - the oatmeal-chocolate-chip-pecans ones.
*And I have to say, the generally warmer temps did affect the "outcome". They still look fine - and taste fine - but they don't look exactly like they usually do.
-
This is about as interesting as L'ill Wayne!
Aw, who needs Li'l Wayne?
How about Li'l Kim?
-
I gotta tell you.

Of interest to JRand:
#1 pop song in the UK for the past two weeks:
Gene Kelly "Singing In the Rain" (Mint Royale - with Kelly "sampling")
I believe the popularity of the song is due to THIS (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kyDnYeUnT7w).
-
I guess they're still wiring away.

Better that than dookies! :)

Good grief! I don't know if I want to kiss him or burp him.
No other options?

Really? I discovered it a while back. It's quite handy, actually.

We are having such weird weather. I see blue sky and white clouds and it's thundering.
-
Hmm... Well.... I'm currently sort-of-watching "The Daytime Emmys"... -And I think I just heard one of the most interesting acceptance speeches ever. <snap>
;)
-
I'm watching Hidden Potential on HGTV.

We'd gotten up to eighty-three in the house, but the temp is on the way down finally - seventy-nine at last count.

~~~~~VIBES TO DR TOMOVOZ AND DD MAGNUS DOWN UNDER~~~~~
Thanks DR Jose (and everyone else too).
Magnus sends appreciative woofs.
-
I am SOOO hoping that the painter coming to give me an estimate tomorrow works out. If he can do the painting/maintenance outside and get the first floor and stairway/hall painting done. I would be very close to having two floors nearly complete, at least complete enough to entertain
-
Of course there are alternatives to "entertaining" on the floor. Each to her/his own.
Best of luck Cilla with the estimate.
-
I'm thinking it may be time to go get ice cream soon.
LOL, thanks Tom. Ok, I will allow people to sit in chairs and I may even powerwash and seal the deck so people can sit outside
~~~~~VIBES TO DR TOMOVOZ AND DD MAGNUS DOWN UNDER~~~~~
To which are your down under vibes sent? DD Magnus or DR Tomovoz?
-
No other options?
Actually? No.
-
La-dee-dah! La-dee-dah!
-
Why don't funeral homes have organs (or pianos) any more? Why must we listen to bad bad bad (that is three bads) CDs of hymns that sound like karaoke tapes???
-

to DR Tomovoz and DD Magnus!

WHAT was that?
-
WHAT was that?
This year's winner of "Britain's Got Talent"!
-or something like that.
-
That was the winner?
-
I much preferred the opera singer.
-
Well, I'm all packed. The cookies have cooled and have been packaged. The kitchen sink is clear of dishes and utensils, and I've put away all said dishes and utensils. And now I just need to "clean" my desk. I think. ;)
-
Although, now that I think of it - and now that I "feel" it too - I guess I should grab a bite to eat too.
-
-And the Daytime Emmy's weren't too bad a distraction to have on in the background whilst I was puttering.
-
Had some fun viewing experiences this evening.
I began with the last episode of STREETS OF SAN FRANCISCO on disc 2. It didn't really feature any guest stars of note, but it was a pretty affecting story of an aged confidential informant being killed by the mob, and his daughter's efforts to bring them to justice.
-
Next I watched the Blu-ray of ENCHANTED. Marvelous fun yet again. I think this is the fourth time I've watched it all the way through without playing the D-LIST game that also can be played while watching.
-
Next I watched a MURDER SHE WROTE episode, this one from disc 2 on the season eight set. Jessica finally decided to enter the computer age which leads to an interesting murder case as she's taking computer classes. Charles Frank was the murder victim and David Groh was among the suspects. I had never seen this episode before, so I really enjoyed it.
-
I enjoyed SAVED much more than I expected from the reviews, and it has a wonderful cast. I liked a lot of the score, although I thought a "big" number in Act Two was rather formless and unmusical, but i thought it could have been trimmed a bit. The libretto is funny, and I love the film, and there's a really wonderful number for four men in Act Two.
I ran for the bus as soon as it was over, but I had a good time and I laughed a lot.
-
I was able to skim through tonight's Emmy Awards for daytime shows. Some expected winners; some unexpected. So glad I watched it this way instead of sitting through all those clips from the nominees' performances, etc. Got it watched in about 40 minutes.
-
I watched another STREETS OF SAN FRANCISCO as my last viewing of the evening. A bunch of men hijack an armored truck carrying a shipment of gold mixed with uranium thinking the uranium will only be lethal for a couple of days before they can melt the gold down and recast it as coins.
Among the guest stars were Vic Morrow, Anthony Zerbe, Milt Kamen, and Herb Edelman.
-
This leaves me with only two more episodes to watch which I should be able to do tomorrow with no trouble.
There are no bonus materials in this set at all.
-
Page Eleven Cyclone Dance!!!
-
Finished watching Fanny. May watch the TIVO of The Best Man, or just a couple of hour-long Hitchcock's I TIVOd. Making a tiny bit of pasta for a snack - still happy from the pastrami sandwich earlier.
-
I have some playing to do on the computer for a bit before heading downstairs.
Good night!
-
Temp down to seventy-five. Three more degrees and I'll be happy and shut it off for a while.
-
I gotta tell you.
-
While pasta cooks I'm listening to a home-grown CD of Elmer Bernstein's nice score to Devil In A Blue Dress.
-
The next two months (is that right) see the marriage of Rodzinski and the arrivel of the Jed/Ann bundle of joy. (a Debbie Reynolds reference).
I hope someone is able to bring us updates: TCB MBarnum
I was supposed to call DR Rodzinski upon my return from Memphis, but I have yet to do that. Perhaps I will call him this weekend and see what is what.
-
Temp down to seventy-five. Three more degrees and I'll be happy and shut it off for a while.
We have ours set at 82.

We have ours set at 82.
But it's a dry heat ;)
-
Well... For some reason, I feel - felt? - the need to mail out some stuff tomorrow morning... And since I'm actually working tomorrow (before I head to the airport to fly to FLL), I realized that I could save myself a lot of time and stress by taking care of some of packaging and postage tonight - it's all going Priority Mail, so I could go ahead and buy the stamps tonight... And since the Penn Station Post Office is open 24 hours... Well... At least I made it back right before the rain started... Hmm...
-
Motley Crue on Larry King Live. That just doesn't seem right
-
So you went just for postage? No goodies?
-
It's a very dry heat.
-
I spent a goodly part of the early evening thinking that either my eye sight was failing or my TV was going on the fritz. I was watching TCM's broadcast of SHOW BOAT - I didn't know a print could get that faded; most of the Natchez basin seemed to be suffering a solar eclipse and the scenes in Chicago had everyone dressed in unattractive shades of drab and mustard and having skin tones suggesting need of a mortician's cosmetologist.

Come November, the fun might begin:
The CA State Supreme Court’s May 15 decision made same-sex marriage legal, effective Monday. Under the ruling, the California Department of Health, whose vital records office maintains marriage forms, did away with all terms identifying gender.
Instead of “bride” and “groom,” those tying the knot are now simply referred to as “Party A” and “Party B.”
Now, there is a voter initiative on the November ballot that undoes the court's decision and states that marriage is only between one man and one woman.
What about those who have already married, one might ask?
Of course, there is now no way to determine from official records which marriages are same sex and which are not!
der Brucer
-
The fact that this voter initiative from the sick people of CA made it onto the ballot, and the fact that they will now do their damndest to undo the court decision is disgusting. One step forward, and then the fanatical will insure two steps back.
-
So you went just for postage? No goodies?
Yeah... No goodies.. :-\
But I did have some leftovers here so that I'm not going to bed on an empty stomach.
-
OK... I'm going to try to get a few hours sleep. Tomorrow is going to be a long day. Thankfully(?), the auditions I'm playing tomorrow are for the Gypsy kids, so I'll basically be playing "Extra! Extra! Read all about it..." on a loop for most of the day. But, still, some sleep would be a good thing. So...
Goodnight.

There be some fussin' 'bout a proposed license plate in South Carolina:
(Image is of a rejected Florida version)
That's fine with me as long as we can have some others like:

PROUD REBEL
or maybe:

Come November, the fun might begin:...

So before we fly out there to tie the knot, we should legally change our names to Pat and Shane? :)

There is an intesting wrinkle:
The, initiative, worded before the Court decsion, is a proposed Constituitonal amendment.
However, now that the court has ruled, it would seem the initiative proposes more than an amendment, but, in fact, proposes a constitutional revision.
The CA Constituiton CANNOT be revised by a voter initiative - it takes a constitutitonal convention!

DR dB - where are you reading all this stuff?

Welcome ten GUESTS.
-
Well, hopefully whatever those creeps are trying to do will fail miserably. They can't just sit back and say "Okay, we lost that round" which they clearly did. They make a mockery and a travesty of everything.
-
So she wasn't a librarian?
No, she was a ballerina!
der Brucer
She was asked to join the Rockettes but her Father said NO!
