Well, you've read the notes, the notes went ting-a-ling-a-ling, and now it is time for you to post until the midnight cows come home - they're currently at the Oasis, which is where they like to spend their midnight.

And the word of the day is: MULIEBRITY!
-
I seem to be going without sleep at the moment
-
Speaking of MULIEBRITY, I'm thinking of wearing a skirt to work today
-
I don't know the longest I went without any sleep. Somewhere in the 36-48 hour range is my guess. I was pretty out of it by the time I went to sleep
-
I went through a time in college where I had no appetite at all. I did make myself eat about 1/2 peanut butter sandwich a day, but that's all I could eat. They never figured out why and I just got over it one day.
-
And the word of the day is: MULIEBRITY!
Francis the Talking Mule is famous, which means he's a mule celebrity...a MULIEBRITY!
;)
-
Tonight I was soundly sleeping when the cats woke me up banging the blind on the window. I woke up thinking there must be a bat there. Then noticed the room was very warm. So I'm awake, the room is cooling (I turned the AC colder) and I'm about to try to sleep again.
-
I was going to say here we go round the MULIEBRITY bush, until I read what it means, then I realized that would be very unseemly
-
I think Der Brucer fell asleep while still signed in to HHW
-
Time to try to sleep again. Night George
-
When I came home from work yesterday, I checked my mail and FINALLY in my mailbox was my copy of Company with Raul Esparza that I had ordered TWO WEEKS AND TWO DAYS AGO from DeepDiscount. I have never had to wait that long for any DVD from them...CDs, yes, but never DVDs. :P It was a good price. I used one of their codes to get 20% off the price, so it was cheaper than Amazon.com, so that's good. I liked it when it was on PBS, but I certainly didn't love it. But I also didn't hate it.
-
Good night, Cilla. :)
-
I'm going to bed, too. 8)
-
I can't sleep either.
-
Everyone's going to BED? When we could be doing the Virginia Reel or, at the very least, the Louisiana Limbo.
-
I ate some leftover Caesar salad that I took home late this afternoon from the Cheesecake Factory. Here is what I learned - leftover salad doesn't work. I ate a few bites but it was so soggy I just wanted to vomit on the ground and now, forty-five minutes later I am paying the price ($5.67).
-
Even though it's been very hot here, it's cooled down considerably from the weekend. I actually haven't turned on the air conditioning since Sunday.
-
I wonder if we'll get to page two before I toddle off to the bedroom environment?
-
I think Der Brucer fell asleep while still signed in to HHW
No, just laying in wait lying in wait! waiting to pounce!

Probably not at this rate.

I hope you pair it up with something top-side :)

I think the longest I've gone without sleep is forty-eight hours - I have very vivid memories of it, as I did it prior to going in for my Army physical. I'm pondering starting some short stories, and that event would certainly be an entertaining story I should think. I actually have ideas for about four stories that have been floating around my cranium for the last year, and since I'm in my crazy writing mode and I'm definitely not interested in beginning a new novel until next year, I may as well give these a go, and if I like them, maybe we'll have a new book of short stories next year. I do love the form.
-
Welcome eight GUESTS.
-
I think the longest I've gone without eating was three full days and nights, maybe four. The reason was simple - a terrible case of food poisoning from Carl's Jr. I really think it was four days before I could eat anything, and even then I had to eat very little the first couple of days. I think I lost six pounds in one week that week.
-
Well, you've read the notes, the notes went ting-a-ling-a-ling, and now it is time for you to post until the midnight cows come home - they're currently at the Oasis, which is where they like to spend their midnight.
Notes do not "ting-a-ling"!
Midnight chimes do not "ting-a-ling"!
Shirley Devore's bells "ting-a ling"!
Christmas Silver Bells "ting-a ling"!
Sleigh Bells "ting-a ling"!
The Bells of Hell ring "ting-a ling"!
Whatever the tintinnabulation of your midnight chime - it is NOT "ting-a ling"!

vixmom is up at this hour? We actually have some late-night denizens for a change. How lovely.

I'm thinkin' we'll definitely get to page two.

I think I shall go brush Ye Olde Teethe.

We're very close now.

So it is written, so it shall be done - page two.
-
Will we never get to page three?

I am up a this unseemly hour for no good reason
Did a littel laundrey and am pondering a trip a to the gym

Bruce are you taking orders for the new book yet?

Or maybe have Laura do the Virgina Peal?

Here is what I learned - leftover salad doesn't work.
If it hasn;t been dressed, you might store it overnight in a zip-lock bag with a paper towel to absorb moisture.
Other wise, it is, indeed, vomit-on-the-ground time.
der Brucer
-
I'll start preorders in about three weeks or so - Grant still hasn't turned in the files because he's been busy. Hopefully that will happen tomorrow - once the publisher has it it should move pretty quickly after that.
-
I'm very anxious for the Vixter to read it.
-
Anyone for page three?
-
Apparently dear reader Laura went to bed or she's off doing the Louisiana Limbo.
-
Well, I suppose I should try and get some sleep.

LA TIMES (http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/movies/la-et-word26-2008jun26,0,158832.story)
Event movies come in all shapes and sizes.
Rival studios (and several box-office analysts) wrote off New Line's "Sex and the City" because its appeal fell narrowly into one demographic group: older women. But those women turned the movie into a happening, organizing screening parties that included pregame cocktails and fancy footwear. The result: $133 million and counting.
Millions of menopausal women, joined by reluctant husbands, Elmore, and Jose.

WHAT THE ...? DMV OFFERS 10,000 REPLACEMENT LICENSE PLATES
Thursday , June 26, 2008
RALEIGH, N.C. —
Thanks to some text message-savvy grandchildren, North Carolina drivers whose license plates have the potentially offensive "WTF" letter combination can AN replace the tags for free.
The News & Observer of Raleigh reported Tuesday the state Division of Motor Vehicles has notified nearly 10,000 holders of license plates with the letter combination. Officials learned last year the common acronym stands for a vulgar phrase in e-mail and cell phone text messages.
An Email and text message creation -I THINK NOT!
The RT airways of the Gulf of Tonkin often echoed with queries of "Whiskey Tango Foxtrot? - over."

TOD:
Can't remember the longest I've gone without food. Not very long.
I pulled many all-nighters in college to finish papers, so I guess it would be 48 hours. It did strange things to my mind. And rendered me relatively incapacitated by the end. Mentally and physically. I know, I know: How can you tell the difference? :-\
I've told this story before, but I had a voice lesson bright & early one morning after having pulled an all-nighter. My voice teacher listened to three notes and could tell. He sent me home immediately to go to bed!
-
And the word of the day is: MULIEBRITY!
When donkeys and other asses have had too much to drink, they usually fail the MULIEBRITY test.
-
Speaking of MULIEBRITY, I'm thinking of wearing a skirt to work today
If I did that, I'd get laughed at.
Lousy looking knees, don'tcha know. ::)
-
Going without food?
WITH MY JOB? ARE YOU KIDDING???
::)
-
As for going without sleep, yesterday eve I accidentally fell asleep before getting dinner on the table (der B had told me he wasn't hungry yet), woke around 11 pm, said to myself "Wisely Totally Fabulous" or something like that, wandered into the study where der B was here on the computer, told him it was too late for dinner, which he agreed to and said he'd scrounge, and then I went back to bed.
I feel rested now.
And the potato salad and celery root salad for tonight's dinner are already made.
-
And now I'm running late to get to work.
Hasta.
-
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And...
-
As for the Topic of the Day...
I regularly would go 48-60 hours without sleep in college - and even after college. It just "happens" sometimes.
As for going without food, well, I have done a 48-hour fast before, and then there was the 14-day liquid fast.
-
And now I must get ready for work...

Oh, if you're talking about being sick, then I've probably gone around the same length of time if not a little longer
-
I was rudely awakened at 6:25 AM by my weather radio announcing the arrival of a severe thunderstorm. We missed the severe part but got a lot of rain. There were also tornado warnings nearby so I jumped out of bed and got dressed in case I needed to take shelter. Now I am very groggy. I have to be at the office at 8:30 AM and have a meeting at 3:30 PM, I am considering coming home in between and relaxing while I work and taking a nap if necessary.
I wasn't sleepy in the middle of the night, BOY am I sleepy now....COFFEE>>>>I MUST HAVE COFFEE>>>>>

Those donuts look good....caffine and sugar with a little fat thrown in ...sounds like a good way to start the day.
I hear thunder again, better get ready for work

Last night's Canadian Idol results show was so disappointing.
*
*
*
They had a final 24 instead of final 22. 15 guys and 9 girls. That part was okay. So they split 12 and 12 into the two nights (mixture of guys and girls).
The results show was last night. It was interesting. Very different. It was only 1/2 hour. But they had let the kids split into groups of 2-4. And they all sang group numbers. Which were so much more incredible than the solo singing.
But then instead of making a bottom 3 or anything (they were sending the bottom 2 home from each night).
The host simply announced the 4 names and those people had to leave.
Now this year is so much stronger than any other year we've had. Many of these people seem like pros already.
Of the first group though. The first girl to go home was awful. So i was fine with that. The second person that left, well i was surprised. But didn't particularly care. She was not going to win.
But in the 2nd group, i was shocked by both evictees. They had been 2 of my favorites and were both really really good. So that left me really bummed.
I mean i know most people don't know the contestants yet. But part of it is that one of the people was from montreal. It is very hard to win if you are from quebec. Because most people in quebec are french. And they don't really watch the show. So the contestant loses out (a lot of fans vote for the people in their area). :(
-
The longest I've gone without sleep was my freshman year in college during Hell Week.
They make you stay awake for 2-3 days at a time, which makes you totally useless when you're in class.
The longest without eating?
When I was in the hospital after I had my gall bladder removed. I didn't eat anything for the better part of a week.
-
The longest I've gone without food was in 1983, when I checked into the hospital on a Thursday afternoon for surgery right after supper was served. I didn't get to eat again until Sunday afternoon, because the resident neglected to put food on my orders. No matter how much I begged the nurses, they wouldn't give me anything to eat.
I was young then. Today I would have none of that.
-
Good morning, all! I'm off to Toyland and then the NYPL at 42nd Street. When I get back here, I have to deal with Kim Criswell's chart and do some writing on the Babes In Toyland critical notes. Thanks to a wonderful group of colleagues, Curtis Moore, Matthew Brookshire, Peter Foley, Chris Deschene, Tom Murray, and the mighty Skip Kennon, composer of several wonderful scores, we are now into the second volume of the critical edition, which consists of all the music Herbert extracted from Babes In Toyland for other venues and income, from a concert overture to the revised German version Spielland to a 1923 revue sketch Toyland Today and all the commercial orchestra publications of medleys and dance arrangements by Herbert's publisher, M. Witmark & Sons. It's all quite exciting to think that the edition is nearly completed.
Last night, since I had money, I finally ate something beyond canned soup and crackers in the past week, and that was fun. I also telephoned our DR Jose whose cell phone was turned off. He must have sensed I would be calling him,
TOD:
I never go without eating. Fasting is not for me.
Around 1984, I was doing charts for a company that did Cruise Line entertainments. Just like a show, you didn't get the charts till they were finalized and then there was a frenzy of work to finish the arrangement and get it to a copyist before the director, choreographer, and acts hopped on the next ship. A lot of the acts were god-awful and the boys in the bands were usually drunk or untalented/unhappy/whatever, and they always played poorly.
The weekend of July 4, I had a pile of work with a deadline and for about 4 days, I wrote, catching a nap here and there, but just grinding out endless medleys and dances. I remember going to the office - was it in the Equity Building? I forget - and dropping everything off, coming home, and having a huge crying jag before I passed out. I got the job through a very talented writer from University of Cncinnati-CCM, Mark Riese, who was from the Pacific Northwest, Oregon, as I recall. He was a very good friend who sang bass in the Gay Men's Chorus and wanted to compose Broadway shows. He was working on a very funny one about a guy whose apartment was haunted by the ghosts of Judy Garland and Marilyn Monroe titled JUDY MARILYN AND ME when he died of AIDS related causes around 1987 or so. Both he and his partner are long gone, and I still think about Mark often because he was such a talent.
The last year of his life, Mark and Jim went to Europe, and Mark called me to ask me what I wanted him to bring me. Since I knew they were going to Prague and Budapest, I asked him for a score for Dvorak's opera RUSALKA. I wish now that I'd ask him to sign it when he gave it to me. And those of us who survive have to tell the tale.

DR derBRUCER re-asked my question with no answer, so I will save it for next Wednesday. It is not time sensitive.
Lovely day today, if a trifle warm.

America's Shirtlessness Index:
After seeing actor and Dancing With the Stars champion Mario Lopez's current shirtless TV Guide cover and recent People magazine spread, we couldn't help but wonder: just how shirtless is Mario Lopez? We decided we'd compare him to other popular be-pec'ed celebrities — perpetually half-nude actor Matthew McConaughey and dancer/romancer Justin Timberlake, for example — by having our esteemed assistant Nicola conduct a Google image search in the hopes of attaining some sort of shirtlessness ratio. Our results proved our suspicions: 13 of the top 20 results for a Google image search for Lopez's name come up with shirtless pics— or 65%. Thus making Mario Lopez the Most Shirtless Man in America. Consult the above Shirtlessness Index to see how other abdominal Adonises measure up.

So I guess you know Betty Boughter too. She's always buying just a bit of butter because she always ends up making bitter batters. That is, until she puts in a bit of butter, which, inevitably, makes the bitter batter better.

I think the most I have ever gone without sleep was around 36 hours. It was the day and night of the senior class play. After the play, we went to the river cabin of one of the cast members and had an all-night party. We never went to sleep, and when I got back home around 1 or 2 p.m., I fell into bed and slept the rest of that Saturday and on into Sunday.
I never had to pull all nighters in college. I was one of those nerds who always did papers ahead of time (started doing research the day the papers were assigned) and kept up with homework daily so that when tests came around, I studied a couple of hours the night before in the library and then came back to the dorm and went to bed.
I remember some of my fellow English majors never read the assigned novels until the night before quizzes. I could NEVER have done that. First, I wouldn't have been able to participate in class discussions of the books, and second, I just liked to read (why else be an English major?) so I WANTED to read classics I wasn't familiar with.
-
I'm going to have some company (a Stephen Sondheim reference) this afternoon, but he's going to have to watch WALKER TEXAS RANGER with me. (We'll probably make fun of it.) I can't lose an afternoon entertaining a friend who's crashing here until his flight leaves at 5:30.
-
As for the longest going without food, I don't think it's ever been very long. I did not have a big appetite when I was young and a teenager, so I ate when I was hungry but if I wasn't I didn't worry about it. Now, I am CONSTANTLY hungry, and if I gave in to all my cravings, I'd weigh 300 pounds.
-
Like DR George and DR Jose, I do find some merit in the video of COMPANY. I didn't care for Barbara Walsh at all, I didn't like how the karate was staged, and certainly the TV direction of the theater production was very flawed.
But most of the core cast did well with their roles and their singing ranged from good to great. So, as I've said in the past, I have all of the other Sondheim-on-TV productions that have been made commercially available (except the Lupone SWEENEY concert which I abhored), and I'm happy to have this. It's better than nothing.

TOD:
Food: I've no idea.
Sleep: Up to 72 hours, IIRC. It was while I was in the Navy, and was on USS Kitty Hawk in the Persian Gulf circa 1993. We were the launching pad for airstrikes against Iraq which was in violation of U.N. sanctions. International media descended upon us and -- as I was in Public Affairs -- we were fully accommodating, hosting up to 20 per night and getting their tapes and cassettes flown back to shore three times per day. I know there was a long stretch where the most sleep I could hope for would have to be done in catnaps while sitting up, but I've never been good at that...and the danged 1MC (that's the ship's announcement system) kept going off so that I never managed to sleep any.
This evolution lasted about two weeks. I know I got a few hours sleep here and there, but when it was done, I slept about 24 hours straight.

-
TMC aired "Boy on a Dolphin" yesterday. I "captured" it on my DVR.
It's a nice print (not spectacular, but clean-ish) and in really nice stereo.
Fox did some amazing CinemaScope films in the mid-50s that served as both story and travelogue and the CinemaScope cameras captured various locales in what should be, today, considered definitive snapshots of those places.
"Woman's World" is a prime example, with stunning vistas of New York City circa 1954-55.
"Boy on a Dolphin" captured not only mesmerizing views of Greek Islands and the Aegean Sea, but also of Athens and the Acroplis.
-
I didn't eat no chocolate pie last night.
I had spaghetti, though.
I wasn't as hungry as I thought I would be, for some reason.
I'm blaming this on the smoke that is choking us slowly to death.
-
In the FWIW department, today is supposed to be the worst unhealthy air day yet, and the next couple of days are expected to be worse.
The main culprit in this is a raging wildfire 115 miles north of us. It's only 15% contained and unlikely to be put out any time soon. We are being treated to southerly winds that are sweeping all the smoke directly into the Bay Area where it's swirling around in its own little vortex.
As the sun rises, the morning is becoming more "golden" by the second.
-
Aww, DR Ginny... :P {{{{{HUGS}}}} to you!!!!
Thanks, DR Singdaw! Actually, if all the techs there are as good as the one I had this morning, it won't be bad. I'm a tough subject, small veins, but she had no trouble and didn't even leave a bruise.

I should have checked my register receipt before I left Borders! The clerk [and it was not DR td] did not enter the coupon properly, and I did not get my 20% discount! :P
And just where is DR td, anywho? Have we seen him here since the Tonys?
-
So many questions....
Perhaps they will be answered by the ting-a-ling of the chimes at midnight! :D
-
What do you always say
I never do say anything twice. ;)

I have found Border's to be quite helpful when that's happened to me. I simply call the store, they usually ask for the receipt number, which is somewhere on there, and they can do it over the phone. It's happened a couple of times to me and been solved quickly.
-
Thanks for the tip, DR JMK!!! :D
-
I don't care what they all say... you're a swell guy! :)

I remember Lulu very well - she was delightfully delightful. Freedunit doesn't post here, but he does e-mail me often.

I'm up and groggy. I shall try to de-groggify so that I can joggify - maybe.

Has Mr. Arnold M. Brockman been around here with his songs of the day?

No; his last post was on June 23rd. A contribution to the Initials GameTM.
Hope he's OK!

And the word of the day is: MULIEBRITY!
Well in AMB's absence, I propose THE SIMPLE JOYS OF MAIDENHOOD as today's Song o' the Day.

You must tell us all about these joys!

I looked in and saw that only JMK was here, and I thought: "So sad to be all alone in the forum."
So here I am...ready to snark away.
-
I had a voice mail on my phone last night.
Deep Discount called to inform me of the extension of its sale, and they gave me a new "code word" to enter in my next order:
SHARK
Feel free to use it if you need to. I have pondered ordering again, but when I compare the prices w/discount at DD for some things I've been wanting to the regular prices at Amazon.com, I'm finding Amazon's "regular price" is better than DD's discounted price.
That wasn't true on the things I ordered in the first days of the sale, as I comparison-shopped then, too. But overall, Amazon has better prices on quite a few things that interest me.
-
Does anyone have Arnold's e-mail address? I'll see if I can find it, but if someone has it at hand maybe they could drop him a line.

He has an e-mail address in his profile. I used it to ask him if things are all right.

Continued health vibes to Ginny

I highly recommend also checking DVDPlanet, which is also running a 20% off sale. As I posted yesterday, all but one item I have ordered has been cheapest there.

Thanks, DR FJL! How's your ankle?

But most of the core cast did well with their roles and their singing ranged from good to great. So, as I've said in the past, I have all of the other Sondheim-on-TV productions that have been made commercially available (except the Lupone SWEENEY concert which I abhored), and I'm happy to have this. It's better than nothing.
Since I think John Doyle is an inept fraud, I prefer my memories of the original production and the cast reunion at Lincoln Center around 1994.
-
I think John Doyle is an inept fraud
You shouldn't hold your feelings in so, DR elmore3003. It could give you an ulcer! ;D

Judy Kaye was so wonderful as Mrs. Lovette. I was just sorry that the production was crap. Yes, crap.
The above opinion is mine solely and may not reflect the opinion of HainesHisWay.com

Mayhaps he wants to be cremated, then placed into a surprise exploding package and, under a cover letter as a bequest, to be delivered to the MacBeths.
:D

Luckily, my television (rest its soul) had a really bad picture when I tried to watch Company, and we finally turned it off. I probably would have, anyway.

I, too, loved Miss Kaye in Sweeney, and I, too, just didn't like the production. Maybe in its original incarnation in some shoebox in the UK it seemed fresh and thrilling, but not here on the stage of the Ahmanson, where it just seemed silly. I only lasted a few minutes with Company - totally awful, I thought.
-
Welcome thirteen GUESTS.
-
RLP, let us know if you hear from Mr. Brockman. He was in absentia for several years, but ever since his return he's been here almost every day, and one looks forward to his song of the day - I hope all is well with him.
-
I did go jogging. At about the half-mile point I again thought I was going to die, but slogged on and did about a mile and a quarter, then power walked the rest of the way. I'm just so out of shape and so overweight - I'm losing thirty pounds and there are no two ways about it.
-
Shall we assume then, DR elmore3003, that when your time comes, you do NOT want your remains buried in a little white coffin?
You mean that ridiculous prop that was passing, I suppose, for a barber's chair?

They were so busy playing musical instruments that they didn't pantomime the story of baby Johanna and her mother. Nor did they when they revealed the identity of the beggar woman. Many people in the audience seemed to not know what was going on.

Don't forget - tonight is Penn and Teller's Bullshit on Showtime, featuring ME.

Gee, between that and all the DOODY, I think we've got us an unofficial theme here today!

I am saddened to hear that this. I have no idea who she is, but this is personal and should not be broadcast on the news. Depression and anxiety are not uncommon.
-
Guess which one is DR FJL/Ron Pulliam as a sprig of a twig of a lad?
-
DearReaderLaura DR - sorry; did not mean to offend. I'm happy to remove my post if you wish.
-
No, no. It's not you, Singdaw. I don't think her personal problems should be in the news.

Thank you Vixmom.
It is nice to see you continue to work out. Have you reached your new weight goal?

I find it interesting that when you go to the doctor, they assure you of your privacy rights. Then they hand you a five-page statement of exceptions that pretty much says they will turn your medical information over to anyone who asks for it.

Yes, Lulu was delightful & I miss her.
I believe Danise recovered from her fall but I have not heard from her in awhile. Maybe she will post over the holiday.

Had a nice long lunch with friends. One of them is moving back to Roanoke, so it was a genuinely heartfelt goodbye.
-
Because of the long lunch and the company (a John Doyle reference in honor of DR Elmore -- ;D ), I only got 1 1/2 episodes of WALK TEXAS RANGER watched this afternoon.
The first one was about a "boot camp" for young prison inmates trying to get them on the path to turning their lives around. No famous guest stars, but one of the inmates was the actor who played Scut Farkus in A CHRISTMAS STORY. We always knew that guy would turn out to be bad, didn't we? :)
-
The second episode, which I only got halfway through, has two well known guest stars: John Beck and Randolph Mantooth. It's about some shady doings at the racetrack.
-
Should be able to get two or three more episodes watched tonight before FEAR ITSELF comes on. I'll record MY LIFE ON THE D-LIST and watch it tomorrow while I cook and eat lunch. I like being able to slip through commercials in the show and not have to wait for the next hilarious segment.
-
Back from lunch. We had everything Szechuan -- chicken, broccoli and shrimp, kung pao, hand-pulled noodles in a peanut sauce, pot stickers and braised green beans.
We et and et and et and et! We wuz hongry!
And then we et some more!
I'm pleasantly full. Alas, alack, alarum -- there is a retirement gathering in 40 minutes with cake and ice cream. Yuck. Barf-a-rama. I must attend!

Zach Ward -- a really terrific actor who gets "typed" into bad guy roles a lot of the time. He was delightful as Christopher Titus' younger brother on the short-lived comedy series "Titus." He is also a very busy actor, as well.

Did about two hours-worth of errands and I think I'll just take the rest of the day off, or maybe spend another hour later e-mailing my fixes for the lead sheet guy.
-
Guess I'll head back down and plunge back into more episodes of WALKER TEXAS RANGER. I sure wish the acting was better. It would make watching these episodes so much more pleasant.

Today during lunch (Jack in the Box...their sirloin cheeseburger), I stopped at the post office and mailed out four, count 'em FOUR packages for four, count 'em FOUR Dear Readers! TD, TCB, TPunk and Vixmom will soon be enjoying the 2008 Tony Awards! ;D

And, DR George, today I mailed something to you - this time with the correct address!

I once unintentionally went 24 hours without eating. I got up one morning and was anxious to start a project of installing a runner on my staircase over carpet. It's a curved staircase which meant the runner had to be cut into separate pieces for each stair step, and each piece had to be fitted just right. Armed with just a staple gun with the longest staples I could find, half the staples wouldn't go through the carpet to the wood, so this literally took all day long and I never stopped to eat. I finally ate after sundown and hadn't eaten since before sundown the day before. The next day, I realized the previous day was Yom Kippur. Yes...that's right...I fasted all day on Yom Kippur BY ACCIDENT! That's the only time in my life I ever did that.

Has Danise recovered from the fall off her car (please note, ofOz!)?
Thank you Ron. Noted!
I am fully aware that I make many mistakes when posting on the Net etc. I just wish that more "official" documents, speeches etc took more notice of "rules". My proof reading of my own posts is still so very flawed.
"Boy On a Dolphin". I've not seen it since it was first at the movies. I remember it as being beautifully filmed but not really having much impact otherwise. I love the Julie London sung title song.
-
My PC is having major surgery. I'm hoping it will not be a cremation instead!
I am using my "old" PC. It is a slow as someone from ... (fill in state or province of choice).
-
The score by Hugo Friedhofer is absolutely splendid, as is that glorious photography (oddly, though, the underwater stuff looks as though it were filmed in a tank, unlike the gorgeous underwater stuff done for "Beneath the 12-Mile Reef". Of course, it could be that print.).
-
I received my copy of the "South Pacific" CD this week.
I am now wondering why I have 5 different versions on CD and three on DVD.
It's not my favourite R & H show. (I would rather have more versions of "Carousel" but I guess there are not many available)

Amy, do you know the Frank Loesser song "Once in Love With Amy"? Does Mark sing it to you?
Once in love with Amy, always in love with Amy
Ever and ever fascinated by her, sets your heart afire to stay.
Once you're kissed by Amy, tear up your list it's Amy
Ply her with bonbons, poetry, and flowers, moon a million hours away.
You might be quite the fickle-hearted rover so carefree and bold
Who loves a girl and later thinks it over and just quits cold.
But once in love with Amy, always in love with Amy
Ever and ever sweetly you'll romance her, trouble is the answer will be
That Amy'd rather stay in love with me.

If it's the most recent issue on DVD, treat yourself to the "roadshow" version. It's a bit rough in spots (visually) but it's SOOOOOOO worth it!
It has become my favorite film musical.
-
I suspect my purchase of this "South Pacific" was to have some more of "Danny Burstein" in my collection.
DR Elmore - if you think of it, please let Mr Burstein know that he has two fans in the land of OZ. We have such wonderful memories of his performance in TDC.

Yes Ron. I just corrected it!
I still have problems getting through the coloured (even the colored) filters of the movie.
I enjoy Reba's in concert version a lot.

There are anywhere from five to seven versions of "Carousel" out there on CD, I believe.
-
I think I have a few on vinyl that I've not replaced (or found cheap on CD!).
-
TMC aired "Boy on a Dolphin" yesterday. I "captured" it on my DVR.
.
Speaking of dolphins, as I was walking on the skywalk on my way back from the jail, I saw a pick up truck with two fake dolphins in the back. Standing up proud as they went down the street.
Doo doo doo looking out my back door

DR JMK will no doubt be deighted to know that we did manage to get past the initial excitement of the oranges and thoroughly enjoyed the charming "Cranford".
-
I think I have a few on vinyl that I've not replaced (or found cheap on CD!).
Did you ever get that expanded soundtrack issued by Angel a few years ago? It's the film soundtrack in stereo, but feautres the complete "Carousel Waltz" recorded by Alfred Newman for the album (the anomaly being that the monaural LP version of the waltz had more music than the stereo LP version). It also includes "Louise's Ballet", but they basically recorded directly from the film tracks which includes sound effects from the film. They're not too distracting and you get all that lovely music, too.

Amy, do you know the Frank Loesser song "Once in Love With Amy"? Does Mark sing it to you?
No, but he once sang to me "I've Got a Crush on You" in its entirety when he first started wooing me. It took an entire hour for him to work up his nerve. The work-up went like this:
Mark: "Okay, here goes...No, wait, I can't."
Amy: "You really don't have to sing it."
Mark: "But I really want to". Deep breath. "No, I can't." "Okay, I'm really going to sing it. Here goes..." Deep breath. "No, wait, I can't do it."
This went on for literally an hour. It was terribly romantic. He finally did sing it straight through without stopping. And since that was eight years ago, it obviously worked!
Amy
-
Awwww.....
That's a lovely story, DR Amy! :)
-
I've got a cwush on you "Tweetie Pie".
Did Sylvester sing that?
-

Did Sylvester sing that?
Sylvester Stallone! ;)

Stallone - was he in Rocky and Bullwinkle?
I avoid boxing movies.

Isn't Stallone's brother Frank the one that actually sings? That DR MBarnum had some kind of crush on??

And a full day of eating was had by all.
And a good time was had by all. Just call you "Good Time"!

P.O.'d - that does make more sense.
Singdaw, Yes, get to see Avenue Q on Sunday! We are leaving for NY on July 21st which is a Monday, our flight is at 11:59 p.m. to will arrive in NY approximately 8'ish?? or so. Then fly back on the 27th, Sunday, on a late flight that night as well.
-
Just call you "Good Time"!
Many have! :-X
-
I have absolutely no idea what to have for dinner tonight.
It needs to be something "lite", I fear. And that rules out pizza, lasagna, left-over spaghetti sauce and Belgian waffles.
Maybe a "lite" piece of chocolate pie around 8 or 9 p.m.
-
[ps: not really]

I like "brekkie" for dinner, oft times.

What kind of cake was it?
A white sheet layer cake with strawberries and whipped cream between two layers, and a meringue-y sort of topping.
There was also a small cheesecake and carrot cake, both of which disappeared quickly.

DR Ron, I put together a tasty breakfast this morning. It could be for dinner too. 2 pieces of toast, 1 scrambled egg (in micro), a little bit of mozzarello cheese (okay can't spell today), salsa, and a little bit of non fat sour cream! Yummy!

Both sound great, DR JulieC40! :)

I'm thinkin lite, lite, lite...crisp, possibly with a hint of citrus....

So do you want our help compiling a Chopin Liszt?
I'm Aways Chasing Rainbows - So Near Yet So Far
(which probably means nothing unless you know your pop songs)

I know the first half of that, DR Tomovoz! I'm guessing that the second half is a similar scenario.

Good Evening!
I'm back from rehearsal, which turned out to be a very easy day for me. Since the cast was doing a run-thru of the Cirque show this afternoon for some of the people from the office, most of today was spent cleaning up that. However, now that that show has been staged and presented, the next two rehearsal days can and will concentrate on the ALW music. -Alas, I have a feeling I may have to make some people cry (again) tomorrow, but better tomorrow instead of next week.
-
And now I'm going to go for a walk and get some dinner. I shall have to catch up on the post upon my return.
Laters...

The sky is a funny color because of the big fire west of town. So far it has not burned any houses -- it is out in the desert. But from the reports I've heard, it is very close to the water recharge basins I like to visit. You have seen photos from there.
-
-Alas, I have a feeling I may have to make some people cry (again) tomorrow
Oh, you're such a taskmaster! :)
-
Hope nothing too serious happens, DearReaderLaura DR!
-
The basins probably don't have a trusty alarm system like your church does. ;)

I know the first half of that, DR Tomovoz! I'm guessing that the second half is a similar scenario.

Bright Canary Yellow is in vogue I believe.

It won't me....I ain't got no cake!

Orange skies are so 1950's and marmalade skies so 1960's.
And Tangerine skies? 1990's, perhaps?

A wedge of lemon atop your chocolate pie?
Never lemon with chocolate. But lime is nice...oh, yes, LIME!

Just saw the track listing for this four CD box set of Sondheim that's coming out in September. Now, we'll just put aside that this box has been in the works for four years and had no release date until I announced Evening Primrose (the most anyone said to me was end of this year). That is, I'm sure, just a coincidence. There are, according to the press release, thirty-seven unreleased tracks. No matter how I counted I could not come up with thirty-seven, unless there are separate tracks for the pieces in The Enclave and Invitation To A March. I do hope they're not counting the Evening Primrose vocals because those have obviously been released. But most of the unreleased tracks are Sondheim singing songs that have, in fact, been recorded elsewhere - by me, mostly on Unsung Sondheim, which also included The Enclave and Invitation To A March. So, the demos are the thing here - if you want to hear Sondheim singing these songs. The most interesting thing in the set are the demos from Saturday Night with Jack Cassidy and, of all people, Arte Johnson.
-
Welcome fifteen GUESTS.
-
Topic of the Day: Sleep: when I was in college, one time (that I can remember) I had to write a paper and take a final. I don't remember what class it was for, but I woke up in the morning at 7:00 am, and didn't go to sleep until 11:00 pm the next day. That was the longest time.
Otherwise, here at work, we used to have a team for the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life (it's a 24-hour walking relay...at least one person from each team should be on the track at all times) and each year at the "event," our team would be at the local high school the entire time and most of us would stay up the whole time (from 6 pm Friday until 6 pm Saturday) after also being at work that Friday in the morning. I'd usually be in bed by 8 pm, and not wake up until noon or so on Sunday.

DR Ron may have taken a nap and have been enjoying a Tangerine Dream.

I does sound interesting. :) Who's releasing this?
-
Who's releasing this?
Found it...Sony BMG Masterworks (http://www.playbill.com/news/article/119021.html).
-
OMG!! They're FINALLY releasing "Back in Business" with Janis Siegel, Cheryl Bentyne, Lorraine Feather!! :D
-
That, more than any of the others, is the one that I've been waiting for!! ;D
-
WELCOME AMY & MARK!!!
Do you have any pets?
-
A certain piano bench guy has just re-introduced me to the talent of Ben Folds. I had only a passing knowledge of Mr Folds when he was Over The Hedge.
Over the hill and over the hedge. Well I do live in a semi-rural area.
-
I've been "engaged" in an online auction for some outstanding lobby cards. There is some heavy bidding and I've been going out of my mind giving up on some and upping my bids on others.
It's a rat race, I tells ya....and it's a crap shoot as to whether I'll win my ULTIMATE prize, the bids on which have doubled in the past half hour.
-
Every time I find something I really want, I encounter someone else with more money than I'm willing to spend.
Well, sir....I've got an economic stimulus check a-coming and let hells bells ring out loud and clear!

***AUCTION WINNING VIBES***
to DR Ron Pulliam!!!
-
I am currently experimenting with burning "recorded" streaming web video to DVD. For someone not technically savvy like me, it's a challenge. We shall see if it works...
-
***AUCTION WINNING VIBES***
to DR Ron Pulliam!!!
~~~WITHOUT SPENDING TOOOO MUCH!!~~~
;)
-
OMG! OMG! OMG! I just won a set of 5 (count 'em 5) lobby cards that included ONE CARD I've never been able to win when it was offered by itself. I've won the lot for $10. That one card generally goes for $30-$50 WHEN it's put up.
So...I played a game of chicken and WON!
The real test is coming, though. My bids are in. And I'm sweating bullets that they'll be met or neared. There is one set I won't let go no matter what. But I'd love to have two others, as well.
-
~~~WITHOUT SPENDING TOOOO MUCH!!~~~
;)
Sadly...no such thing. :'(
-
There's a bidder called "gtposters" who is nickel-diming me on a bid for six beautiful lobby cards from "Words and Music."
He's upping his bids by $10 every two minutes. He's gonna have to jump $100 to get the bid, but I hope he chickens out.
-
The thunderstorm has come and gone and so have my relatives.
And, no, there's really no correlation. We all get along quite well, but my mom and sister are quite concerned about my aunt. And my sister and I are concerned about how much my mother worries about and waits upon her younger sister.
-
And at what o'clock will all this excitement end, DR Ron Pulliam?
-
I am still in my work environment, by the way. As is "usual', someone who spent ALL DAY tweaking a document delivered it to me at a quarter to five to proof and edit before I left.
I spent the next 40 minutes on it, and that was the end of it. The person who dumped it on me left immediately after giving it to me.
That's how URGENT it really was.
At any rate, I knew my auctions were going to be ending starting around 5:30 p.m. up to and just after 6 p.m., and the only way I could monitor them from home was to leave just at 5 p.m.
So...stuck here like so much fish.
-
And at what o'clock will all this excitement end, DR Ron Pulliam?
Actually, the two CRUCIAL auctions end in just over 3 minutes. One is the aforementioned 6-card "Words and Music", and the other is five (count 'em 5) beautiful full-color lobby cards from "The Gang's All Here". In all my years of searching, these are the first batch I've seen, and the only time any card from that film was in good enough condition for me to bid on....and in this case, they are all worth bidding on.
One last lot that ends in just under 4 minutes is five cards from "Lucky Lady", two of which are priceless portraits of Liza.
-
This auction has an "extended bidding" feature. If anyone bids on an item in the final six minutes of the auction, it is extended by 10 minutes.
gtposters has opted in for that auction and upped his bid $9. He's desperate!
-
I've WON, I've WON, I've Won the cards from "The Gang's All Here", and at less than half my bid price.
Poor gtposters....he's going to have to bid about $50 per card to win the bid from me on "Words and Music"...and I'll be sitting here -- jest like a spider -- "extended bidding" him by another $100.
-
Fortunately, "Lucky Lady" fell into my hands at $5...or $1 per card. There are some movies I just love that everyone else seems to hate. And these are high quality photos, too!
-
Oh, DR Ron Pulliam, you are ruthless. Ruthless! :)
-
Glad the auctions seem to be falling your way, though.
-
All it takes is money, right?
-
Congratulations, DR Ron Pulliam! We'll look forward to some photos.
-
Well, I may not be able to stay up long enough to find out if this "burning" thing works....
The process has been going for 30 minutes and is only 21% complete. Way too slow for my patience level.
But if it works, DR George will be getting an extra special bonus! :D
-
You'll be happy to know -- and very glad that this is the final post on it -- that gtposters wussed out at $99...and never came near my top bid. Of course, if he'd left well enough alone, I'd have paid much less....but that's what these auction thingies are all about.
If anyone is interested, the auction is conducted by emovieposters.com at its own site. They used to have items on eBay but have cut off from eBay entirely. They have auctions twice a week -- posters, lobby cards, stills and other film-advertising-related ephemera pops up now and again. Check it out and see what's what!
-
All it takes is money, right?
Yeah......and sacrifice....
-
.....and sacrifice....
But not silent suffering... ;)
-
CONGRATULATIONS to DR Ron Pulliam on winning his auctions!! :D

CONGRATULATIONS to DR Ron Pulliam on winning his auctions!! :D
Thanks! It was fun! It was exhilarating! And now it's terribly anti-climactic!
They all are, for some reason.
But when I get those suckers in hand, I'm gonna be like a kid in a candy shop!

This afternoon I took Sherlock to the vet to check out “something” on his foot. It wasn’t at all what we expected. The vet said it might be a foxtail & the only way to know is to go in and look. Even then it might not be found.
Since we had given him an afternoon snack the surgery could not be done this afternoon. Well, it could if we were willing to give him morphine to make him throw up. Our plan had been to give him a much needed shower on Saturday, instead Keith did so within minutes of our returning home. Boy was he dirty! I’m glad we opted not to make him sick before surgery.
The foot will be bandaged & must be kept dry. The vet suggested I go to the Outdoor Store in town & get a “dry” pouch large enough to fit over Sherlock’s paw. I hope I can find one.
-
A certain piano bench guy has just re-introduced me to the talent of Ben Folds. I had only a passing knowledge of Mr Folds when he was Over The Hedge.
Over the hill and over the hedge. Well I do live in a semi-rural area.
I like Ben Folds.
Even more, I like the songs of my friend Matthew Brookshire. I have just returned from his 75-minute set at the Caffe Vivaldi on Jones Street. Great band of 4, with my friend Curtis on piano and Erika on fiddle, and a wonderful backup singer, Delia. It was a wonderful set of songs.
-
Hi DR elmore-An evening of talented friends, how lovely. :)
-
The good thing about eBay and movie memorabilia is that seventy percent of these creeps who are upping the bids are dealers - and they ALWAYS drop out when the price reaches a place where they can't triple their money. There's no question that gtposters is a dealer.
-
Well, no one can say we didn't get to page thirteen.
-
Watched a couple of best of Perry Mason episodes.
-
I haven't bid on eBay in over two months, I think.
-
There is ash falling from the fire that is 30 or so miles away.
-
The longest without eating?
When I was in the hospital after I had my gall bladder removed. I didn't eat anything for the better part of a week.
When you go without food, there is no better part of a week.
-
Good Evening!
Well... I went for a walk - 5.25 miles! - and now I'm watching "Penn & Teller's Bullsh*t" where their "favorite doctor" is currently blowing into a kazoo. ;D
-
OK, I'm outta here. Tomorrow morning is my next appointment with the foot surgeon. I hope this one turns out better than last Friday's.
I also have to have another blood test tomorrow, because I flunked today's. That INR that's supposed to be between 2 & 3? Mine today was 4.3 - does that mean my blood's too thin? I was told to take no meds today.
We have to get both of those appointments out of the way in time for Richard to deposit me back here at home and then go to a retirement luncheon at one of my favorite Cincinnati restaurants, The Grande Finale. Maybe he'll bring me some Chocolate Cordial Pie.
-
Oh, no, now even Sherlock is having foot problems! Vibes to him. And where can I get a "dry pouch" for when I take a shower?
-
DR GINNY-GOOD VIBES!!!!
Have fun tomorrow! :)
-
Thanks Ginny. I will keep an eye out for a pouch for your foot.
-
Thanks, DR Jane! I'm a little worried that my foot is going to hurt more after tomorrow's appointment than it does now. We shall see.
-
Good luck!
-
DR Ginny, I said have fun because I thought you were going out to the luncheon. I just re-read what you wrote & realize DH Richard is going out. I still hope you have a fun afternoon after your morning.
-
. Maybe he'll bring me some Chocolate Cordial Pie.
Can you eat it if it has alcohol in it?
-
Oh -- Company (what I saw of it) was also crap. Yes, crap.
The above opinion is that of DR Elmore and myself and may not reflect the opinion of all of HainesHisWay.com but possibly some of HainesHisWay.com
I didn't think COMPANY was quite as bad as SWEENEY TODD, but then they also didn't let Patti play Joanne. Although, in all honesty, I think I would have preferred Patti as Joanne. Most of the cast of COMPANY was terrific, even if the choreography looked like it was borrowed from ROMPER ROOM.
-
Good Evening, once again.
I'm all caught up on the posts, so...
-
I don't think Chocolate Cordial Pie has alcohol - it's just mile-high chocolate mousse in a pecan crust.
Now, I'm really going.
'night!
-
'night
-
But first, I would like, once again, to publicly thank the United States Postal Service - as well as Australia Post - for their continued friendly, efficient and speedy(!) service.
:)
-
Good Evening, once again.
I'm all caught up on the posts, so...
but have you caught up on your PMs?
-
I wish I got Showtime! I wonder if you can pay your cable provider to just watch one particular program?
DR singdaw - Do you have the "On Demand" feature? A lot of times, you can access premium channel "On Demand" programs even if you don't subscribe to said channel.
-
International Postage is indeed to be praised.
Favourite song of today "Uncle Walter"
-
Thank you Vixmom.
It is nice to see you continue to work out. Have you reached your new weight goal?
I am about 9 lbs away from my goal, and about 51 lbs lighter than I was January 1
-
but have you caught up on your PMs?
Yes, I have.
You're most welcome.
-
International Postage is indeed to be praised.
Favourite song of today "Uncle Walter"
Just wait till you get to "The Luckiest" - truly my favorite modern day love song.
-
I think DR AnyTime wanders around displaying his "on demand" feature.
-
If we all comment on Singdaw, body part by body part, we could make a new posting record!
der Brucer
Would certain body parts warrant more - or less - comments than others?
-
Today during lunch (Jack in the Box...their sirloin cheeseburger), I stopped at the post office and mailed out four, count 'em FOUR packages for four, count 'em FOUR Dear Readers! TD, TCB, TPunk and Vixmom will soon be enjoying the 2008 Tony Awards! ;D
You are a sweetheart! Thank you George!
-
I was just discussing Mt Folds' work with OZ Derek's sister. She is a Nick Cave fan. I had a feeling she would have knowledge of Mr Folds and his lyrics!
-
Speaking of apolo- Meredith Willson, where in the state of Florida is DR JoseSPiano today?
I'm still in Ft. Lauderdale.
*And I think I may be heading down to Miami on Saturday for the day via the Tri-Rail (http://www.tri-rail.com/).
-
Vixmom, that is wonderful! Are you going to let The Vixter take a photo of you and post it?

One of the first things I want to do when I get back to NYC is to view the various waterfalls that have been set up around NYC. And, yes, there will be pictures.
-
Watching more Perry Masons - they've chosen shows for this set that have people who either became famous or were famous, so it's a lot of fun. Of course, frequently they don't mention OTHER people in the shows that became famous, too. The show I'm watching now is interesting - the guest star is Miss Bette Davis and, for the first time in the history of Perry Mason, a guest star is billed up front in the main credits. I believe it's the first AND last time.
-
You are a sweetheart! Thank you George!
My pleasure! And I just realized that I still have some Girl Scout cookies. :D I think I'll have some tonight. ;D
-
Oh, you're such a taskmaster! :)
Well... One of the people in attendance today was the main assistant for the producer/presenter. She stressed that the gentleman coming in from RUG (Really Useful Group) will want to hear everyone sing - and may even hear people sing individually. So... I shall conducting individual "trial runs" tomorrow.

Until later.

And from what I could tell, some of them are alternate demo takes that were not released on the two "Sondheim Sings..." discs. -Which I acquired a couple of years ago through the kindness of some friends. ;)

Thank you, DR George!

The longest I have gone without food was 6 days. That was when I had my two back surgeries - back to back, so to speak. After my first surgery, they realized that my back would totally collapse if I attempted to stand up, so they had to go in agian through my stomach to stabalzie my spine. They waited 48 hours between surgeries, and after I came out of the second surgery, they told me that I couldn't have any food until I had .......uh, done my dooty. I tried explaining that wasn't going to be very likely, because I had by then been without food for 3 days, but the doctor would not change the orders. So, all together between going in the hospital, waiting betwen surgeries, and then waiting again; the only thing I comsummed for six days, except juice and tea, was celery jell-o.
-
I've heard from DR Dan(the Man); he says hello to one and all and sends his love.

Vixmom, that is wonderful! Are you going to let The Vixter take a photo of you and post it?
-
Well apparently I cannot post a picture at the moment

Well apparently I cannot post a picture at the moment
Is it possible that your picture is too big to post - even though you no longer are? ;)

This is a test... -Picture courtesy of DR ArnoldMBrockman

Well, that worked...
DR vixmom - If you send me the pic, I can resize it properly for posting purposes.

...And since we ended our day today a half later than normal, we get to start tomorrow a half hour later. I think I may treat myself to an actual sit down breakfast at the diner by the hotel during those "extra" 30 minutes.
-
We had a surprise thundershower late this evening. Not in the forecast; it just HAPPENED. Sadly, it didn't cool things off enough to open up the house and let the attic fan do its job.
-
...And since we ended our day today a half later than normal, we get to start tomorrow a half hour later. I think I may treat myself to an actual sit down breakfast at the diner by the hotel during those "extra" 30 minutes.
DR Jose, thank you for your carefully worded message on my cell today. I understood every word.
-
I got a bunch more WALKER TEXAS RANGER episodes watched. Four, I think, but after awhile one loses track since there's shootings and at least one beat-down per episode (and often two or three). So monotonous.
-
The most famous guest star in the episodes I watched tonight was Barbara Bain playing a nun.
In another episode, Burt Young was the primary guest star though he really didn't have much to do.
-
I did have time to skim through today's AS THE WORLD TURNS. No Luke nor was he in previews for tomorrow.
-
And I ended my evening with tonight's FEAR ITSELF. A very talky drama tonight with a less than wonderful payoff. Nice to see James Roday and Maggie Lawson playing characters other than their PSYCH personalities.
-
So, I've watched 15 episodes of WALKER and have 10 more to get through. I should be able to finish it by Saturday night. Not sure I can do all 10 tomorrow though I'd like to try to finish it. I don't think there are any bonus features, so once I'm through with the episodes, that should be the end.
-
How good is that. News of DtM. He is missed.
-
DR elmore - I'm glad I was finally comprehensible. ;)
-
I spy a new Dear Reader (DR)! Welcome, AJameson. Please join in our merry group and tell us about yourself!
-
Hello Ajameson, at least one of us would like to know if you like Cherry Coke
-
Which reminds me... I got a $2 bill in my change the other day...is the collection still on going?
-
I will as DR Sandra if she is still collecting.
-
It's earlier than usual, but I think I'll head down and put myself to bed.
Good night!
-
I just reread my last 2 posts... I am incomprehensible and probably will scare our new reader away... I am sorry new reader AJameson I have been awake for 20 hours now I am very tired
-
Hey AJameson....are you my nephew?
-
I think the longest I've gone without sleep is probably in the neighborhood of 48 hours. It was while I was in college and I had a bad example living down the hall. We had our classic "Scotch-Coffee and Jam" with guitars two nights in a row one weekend and I can never sleep during the day....it was a long weekend.
Longest without food? 5 days.. no medical reason, simply by choice, I needed to shrink my stomach before I started a diet and lost... about 60 lbs over four months... And i kept it off for 4 months! *ahem* before gaining it back. ;D
-
YES! You've talked about this forum so much I decided to check it out! I've been lurking for a few days.. :D
-
This is a test... -Picture courtesy of DR ArnoldMBrockman
WOW!
DR Arnold Brockman did youtake that picture?
-
YES! You've talked about this forum so much I decided to check it out! I've been lurking for a few days.. :D
Hey everybody, meet DR Samantha's brother and Gabe's dad,
-
Good evening!
I like Ben Folds, too. Favorite song discovery this evening is "Wait For Me Baby" by Eldridge Holmes. After looking him up, I learned that he was a protogé of one of my favorites, Allen Toussaint. I had read that Toussaint had lost his house during Katrina. What I didn't know was that he had been living in NY since then, and plays a Sunday brunch at Joe's Pub in NY. Part of the profits go to Katrina relief efforts.
Dang! Wish I'd known he was playing there when we were in NY in Jan...that would be a must-see!
-
Welcome aboard AJ!
-
Any relative of Cilla's is a friend of ours! And tell Sam we miss her!
-
Hello Edi!
-
Welcome AJ! We met your sister in NY and like her very much!
-
Vixmom, I am so inspired by your impressive weight loss! Did you follow any diet in particular?
And were you really going to go to the gym at 5 in the morning?
-
What is the Vixter up to this summer?
-
Thank you for the welcome! I very much appreciate it.
I will be sure and tell Samantha hello. Right now she's in Minneapolis waiting at a friend's house for the early morning flight to Sarasota, FL.
-
My DH starts Dukefest tomorrow, so I'm not going to be seeing much of him this weekend. I look forward to hearing some good stories!
-
I have to go sleepybyes
-
Welcome, AJameson! So glad you decided to join in!
-
I think I posted this last Christmas, but the guy in the middle is AJameson with his DS (Dear Son) Gabe last Christmas when Gabe was baptized. He's with his DW (Dear Wife)
-
Thanks DR Laura. I'm happy to be here.
-
I know Gabe is much older now, but I love this photo
-
TOD: 48 hours straight, I prepared a temp mix for a film called THE ANNIHILATORS. It was one of the worst movies I've ever worked on, so of course it was the most fun, too!
After the screening, the other editors and I went out for a drink. Note to self: Do not drink when you are that tired.
I only had about half a beer, but I had no memory of driving home. Pretty scary.
Food-wise, when was in college I had my tonsils out and didn't eat much for a week. I lost so much weight that when I went back to school. I tried to donate blood and for the first and only time, I didn't weigh enough to be able to donate. I never thought I'd ever hear those words in my life!
-

I did go to the gym this morning I got there around 5;30 and worked out until about 7 then toodled home showered and got ready for work
since we only have one working car at the moment (and it's not mine) my regular routine is abit off... since I joined the gym in April I have been droppingthe Vixter at school at 7 gym from 7;15 to 8 then
home for a shower and off to work, tehn I do an hour at teh gym on Saturdays. For the past 2 weeks I only made it in on Saturday since I was awake this AM and could not go back to sleep I figured may as well make belonging to a 24 hour gym woth it!
-
The angel sticking out of DR AJs head has been a problem for years, don't know if it's been removed yet
-
My DH starts Dukefest tomorrow, so I'm not going to be seeing much of him this weekend. I look forward to hearing some good stories!
Dukefest?
-
Ah! Gabe's daddy! Now it all becomes clear...
What a cutie!
-
A reunion of the cast of the Dukes of Hazzard, which started its life here in GA.
-
I know Gabe is much older now, but I love this photo
sooooooooooo cute!
-
Welcome to new DR AJameson
-
A reunion of the cast of the Dukes of Hazzard, which started its life here in GA.
AHA! Is he filming or attending?
-
FJL! How's your foot?
-
Welcome, newest DR AJameson!
-
I really must go to bed... the longest I have been awake this week is today 20 + hours and the body has had it.. I ainl't no spring chicken no more
-
AH! That's a bad photo of me! I look so rotund. But yes, that is me. And my DS, DW, and DP (Dear Pastor)
I do indeed drink cherry coke, I take photographs, write a little, read a lot, I'm teaching myself jazz piano theory and I embalm people. ;D If you want to know anything more about me, just ask, I'm not shy.
-
Well, if I am to take advantage of those extra 30 minutes in the morning...
Goodnight.
-
Jose I sent you pix if you can do anything with them if you can't DearReaderLaura will just have to learn to live with the disappointment
:)
-
Sorry about not searching for a skinny photo, but Gabe is so cute..
-
Thanks FJL and Jose!
-
I embalm people. ;
dead ones I hope
-
gosh I am just like those Gilbert & Sulliavan policemen. I say I go but I stay!
-
And thank you for the compliments, you flatter too much! ;D
j/k Thank you, he is the cutest little boy. So bright and smiley, I'll have to find a current picture of him and post it pretty soon.
-
Oh dear. You probably saw my post about morticians who do bad work. I am sure it is one of your pet peeves, too.
-
dead ones I hope
Of course! I work in a funeral home, finishing my internship as a funeral director.
-
I had just come from a funeral. It was very bad.
-
AJ was top of his class in Ears and Noses
-
This evening I was lying on the couch with my foot on a pillow listening to CDs.
And may I say it was some enchanted evening.
-
Was there a stranger across the room? Was it crowded?
-
Actually DR Laura, I missed that post. But yes, I do see an awful lot of bad work, sometimes it can't be helped, but more often than not, it's just a matter of not taking the time to do it right.
-
An OZ welcome to new DR AJameson
-
I am certain you are not the kind of funeral director who leads the mourners up to the deceased, then out the door to the parking lot to visit with the family in 115 degree heat.
-
Sam and Janet Evening.
-
DR AJ, I'll have to loan you my Benjamin Kritzer trilogy so you can get to know our BK
-
I couldn't. I let the family and friends take as long as they need to. I have no reason to be in a hurry and I think it's quite tacky to expect a family to pay what they pay and then rush them through everything and out the door.
-
It is not a particularly enchanted afternoon in the land of Oz (2.00pm) but Ok for a Winter's Day.
-
Thanks DR Tomovoz!
I'd really like that Cill, if you bring it up to the lake I may be able to finish and give them back before you leave.
-
DR Tomovoz, how cold does it get there in the winter?
-
We've just started to watch Dexter. I wonder how long it will take to not think it is David from Six Feet Under.
-
You sound like a good guy, AJameson.
-
Thanks DR Tomovoz!
I'd really like that Cill, if you bring it up to the lake I may be able to finish and give them back before you leave.
Well, I'm only going to be there about 24-36 hours, so that would be a little difficult, but I'll try to remember to bring them with me
-
You sound like a good guy, AJameson.
He is ;D (His Dear Aunt say's proudly)
-
Mild rather than cold. It is rare even in the hills for the temperature to get to O degrees C. We only have snow here about one a decade. We are about 50 k from Melbourne but in the hills.
-
Thank you DRLaura, I sure try to be. Life is a little easier when you live by the golden rule. (wow, that sounds so cliche, so....Brady) But it's true.
Thank you too Cill!! :D
-
I'm off for a short while to let my neighbour's dog out for a run. She's only a pup - in her first "season".
-
Nice to meet you DR Tomovoz.
-
Well... I'm back... And here's why:
Before/Then:
-
And After/Now:
-
Look-eeng good, DR vixmom!
-
OK.. And once again...
Goodnight.
-
Woo Hoo Vixmom!! Congrats
-
Ok, so what, other than working out at ungodly hours in the morning, is your secret?
-
WOW! Congrats vixmom!
-
As soon as this murder trial is over, I'm going to have to start working on losing weight. I'm really not eating right or sleeping right etc. Just isn't going to happen until August
-
Speaking of which, I have some reading to do before tomorrow, so I better call it a night. Glad you joined the group AJ, I think you'll like it here
-
I'm all caught up.
Welcome from me, too, AJameson.
-
Thanks Cill! I'm sure I'll enjoy it here. Have a good night.
-
Congratulations, Debra Mann!
Attagirl!
-
Thanks DR Ron!
-
Welcome, AJ!
Hey, I think I got a job. Well, I do but will get more of the particulars tomorrow. The agency that found it for me called me tonight about 5:30 p.m. and I will be getting close to almost $2.00 more per hour than I was making and I will definitely have weekends free. It is temp to hire but they told me most all people end up being permanent. That would be nice. It is in the loan/mortgage business which I know nothing about but they are willing to train me.
Also, my trip to NY is not an issue because I told them about it and that it is non-negotiable and already paid for!
-
I think Vixmom's creative keyboarding gives her extra exercise.
-
Thanks Julie! And congrats on your new job!
-
AJ, Thanks so much! I'm excited and I don't think it's too far from me.
Well, just checking in to say hi and report on the status of the employment! Goodnight, everyone!
-
I'm now inspired to exercise again Deb. I suspect I've put on a bit since my effort six months ago. My clothes seem OK but I may be folling myself. With another five weeks of French pastries coming up in Sept/Oct I had better make myself "ready". Congratulations on your results.
-
Congrats on the new Job DR Julie....
I'm going, really I am
-
My wife and I are both trying to lose a lot of weight. We've started to eat right but we need to add a little exercise into the mix. Everyone who's lost a significant amount of weight is inspiring to us!
-
You look great, DR Vixmom!
I began exercising daily, and, well, that didn't go too well.
-
AJ's wife is trying to register, but is having problems with the auto password not working. Does anyone have suggestions?
-
You look great, DR Vixmom!
I began exercising daily, and, well, that didn't go too well.
How's your left foot, DR Laura
-
Congratulations, DR JulieC40!
My son began as a temp at Amazon.com and was quickly hired full time. It gives them a chance to see if you've got what it takes. I think they do all their hiring that way.
-
It was pretty good this morning, but by the time evening came, it had had enough and has been aching.
-
VIBES TO DR LAURA'S LEFT FOOT
VIBES TO DR FJL's RIGHT FOOT
VIBES TO DR GINNY's FOOT and LEG and THIN BLOOD
VIBES TO WHOEVER ELSE NEEDS THEM~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
If anyone has a suggestion I'd appreciate it, unless there is a board moderator who could reset it and send her another password. I think she's planning on going to bed soon so there isn't a rush, but she'd like to join the group too.
-
Easiest way to join is to reregister under another name and start fresh. A happy haineshisway.com welcome to new dear reader AJameson.
-
I do hope someone TIVOd Bullshit tonight.
-
Jose, the Tibetan cleansing cups were fun - I got one of the plungers stuck on one of the mark's back and could not get it off for about five minutes.
-
Thank you for the welcome BK!
I've heard so many wonderful things about the people here I just had to come and meet everyone.
-
Well, people here are the nicest people on all the Internet, even if they've all WUSSBURGERED! But what a lovely day of lots of postings.
-
Will we never get to page twenty?
-
Welcome eight GUESTS.
-
Is the goal page 20?
-
Perhaps if we put our backs into it.....
-
Only 18 more posts and we're there.
-
I'm game if anyone else here is.
-
I'm even game if no one else is.
-
At this point in time, I can jabber until I conk out.
-
I'm sure there are one or two of you who wish that would occur much earlier in the day.
-
But then....well....I don't really mind.
-
We are nearly there. Where is BK in all of this endeavor? Has HE wussburgered or is he off getting a nosh?
-
And has derBrucer nodded off? I see him sitting there like so much tilapia...
-
What we need to do is wake up singdaw and see what kind of sense he can make at this hour.
-
Just nine more posts to go from this very one and we will be on page 20.
-
Can we make it, or will BK close the postings and start up the new day?
-
Everyone out there should be on tenterhooks from the suspense.
Or, just for the heck of it.
-
What are tenterhooks anyway? Are the hooks that tenters use? And what are tenters, exactly?
-
I shall do the rest.
-
I'm game if anyone else here is.
I'm not game, I've showered -but I'll play.
der Brucer
-
The rest I shall do.
-
Shall I do the rest?
-
I have done my best.
-
I have met the test.
-
I see three browsers, including myself, but I don't see any guests. Where would the guests show up?
-
Will we soon be blessed?
-
What we need to do is wake up singdaw and see what kind of sense he can make at this hour.
Oy - let sleeping dogs tenors lie.
der Brucer
-
And speaking of guests....really? At this hour of the night? Are they mad?
-
We've achieved the quest.
