Well, you've read the notes, the notes were long and hauled butt cheeks, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're in it for the long haul, coming home-wise, and assure me they'll be here someday.
-
And the word of the day is: PALAVER!
-
And now - Dino at the piano.
-
And a very happy haineshisway.com birthday to Andrea - can't remember who she is, though.

And a very happy haineshisway.com birthday to Andrea - can't remember who she is, though.
It's no wonder, since her last post was on June 07, 2004. :-\ She's only 25 years old today, so she's a young one.
Happy Birthday, Andrea! :)
-
CONGRATULATIONS to bk, and to DRs Edisaurus and Jennifer [not to mention DR Vixmom], on your collective weight loss.
Way to go!!! :D
-
DR JulieC40 - thanks for the comparative photo links. I agree; that is not progress, in my opinion!
-
Thanks once again to all for the travel vibes and good wishes. :)

Why am I up at four-thirty?

Want to read thoughts on Wall-E.

We're STILL on page one?

I'm very tired.

Thirteen GUESTS and li'l ol' too tired me.

I'm going back to bed.

Actually, I was trying to transfer photos, but the tech gremlins are afoot. Sorry to have missed you, bk. Hope you can sleep some more.

Dear Wife Joy and I saw Wall-E last night, too, and were similarly enthused. Usually, I don’t like science fiction, anything set in an unhappy future, but in this I wasn’t troubled by the magical powers suddenly springing up that you didn’t know about before.
I’d tell the headed-for-NYMF-ers that the experience is going to cost more than they can accurately estimate. There will be people who will do their best to be helpful, and others who will do their best to do you in. Counter the latter by staffing your show with a brilliant team that has Broadway and/or NYMF experience. Lucky for this year’s crop, they took my suggestion and cut the number of shows by a third. But it’s still a marketplace: a hard-working publicist and promotion team is needed to create public interest in seeing your show. The actors will be of a higher caliber than you can imagine: people who’ve been on Broadway again and again: if they offer an idea, take it, gratefully. If you’re the writer, the most important thing you can do is to keep your focus on the writing. Never stop improving your text and score. Any “little” flaw is likely to present itself under the bright lights of actual performance, so you can’t afford to leave in a weak joke, a false rhyme, a nonsensical chord progression, or a misplaced pirouette. Improve your show every day and, when the world sees it, the rewards will be great.

Hmm, i just found out that the CBC will be showing last season's The Tudors on tuesday (season 1). But season 2 will start in september!
-
WALL-E....perhaps I will see it sometime AFTER Singin' In the Rain closes in August.
-
I have my Borden's logo all made, so if someone brings me a milk box, I am all set thanks to DR GINNY and DH RICHARD.

Great pictures of the party ... everyone looks like he's having a wonderful time.

PRONGHORNS AND RED RIVER HOGS, OH MY...
7:45 PM, July 3, 2008
The Los Angeles Zoo is having its own 4th of July sale. From Friday through Sunday, the zoo is cutting $4 off admission. (The zoo is open every day of the year except Christmas.) While you're there, you can check out a new crop of zoo babies.
The youngsters include the endangered Peninsular pronghorn. Native to Baja California, they hold the distinction of being the only animal with branched horns. (Who knew?) "These are two very special little guys," says the zoo's Jason Jacobs. "They are the first Peninsular pronghorns to ever be born in a zoo."
Meanwhile, in the nursery, the zoo is hand-rearing a female red river hog piglet whose mother wasn't quite up to the job. Apparently, red river hogs have such great hearing they can detect the underground movement of an earthworm. Hmm. We'll take the zoo's word for it.

I also saw Wall-E last night. A wonderful film. It was a mid afternoon showing and the audience comprised of families and Adults. They feedback from all the people around me was very positive.
The advancement in computer animation is amazing. I thought that it almost didn't look like animation but shot "live'.
I loved the use of the songs from Hello, Dolly! I thought they could have also used Dancing.
Side Bar: They were very careful not to show or have any audio of Barbra Streisand in Sunday Clothes. But we did see Michael Crawford, the late Danny Lockin, Tommy Tune and Joyce Ames.
Highly recommend it.
-
I thought the 1776 LONDON cast album was released around the time of the Columbia/Sony releases that included Windy City. They weren't well done transfers,
-
Happy birthday, Andrea!
One piece of advice to NYMF-ers: If at all possible. unless you have key performers who are actually IN shows currently, hold as many rehearsals as possible after 5 p.m. A big problem for many NYMF shows is the actors not being able to make rehearsals because of auditions, and there's nothing you can do about that in the showcase environment, because unless your director is someone who can get them "big" jobs in the future, the actors will understandably use their right to go to the auditions.
-
Good morning, all! I was sure I'd posted earlier but I see nothing so I guess I meant to. I'm off to Toyland to pick up Act Two and Three scores for BABES and the photocopy on a darker copy a few things that are illegible on the scores I'm returning in hopes that I can read them.
Last night, I ended up watching CHARLES BUSCH IS THE LADY IN QUESTION, a wonderful documentary, and I was happy to see so many videos of the original productions of PSYCHO BEACH PARTY, the show about the Nazis whose title I always forget, and VAMPIRE LESBIANS OF SODOM AND COMA, which i'd caught in the Village 20+ years ago. My late friend Page Edwards was a friend of Charles, and we'd always go back and see him. The last time I saw Charles we were in line for something but I've forgotten what the play was or where but it was up a deep and narrow staircase, as I recall.
I must say, I'm bummed about NYMF this year: so far no one's called me to ask me work on a production. I hope that changes.
So now I'm off to Toyland.
-
I thought the 1776 LONDON cast album was released around the time of the Columbia/Sony releases that included Windy City. They weren't well done transfers,
WINDY CITY was EMI; I had both the LP and the CD. Mine sounds fine. 1776, tomy knowledge was never released. EMI was really dumb about the whole release situation: I kept waiting for the CAMELOT with Laurence Harvey.

CONGRATULATIONS to bk, and to DRs Edisaurus and Jennifer [not to mention DR Vixmom], on your collective weight loss.
Way to go!!! :D
Well, not much to congratulate for me, since it's only been one week and doesn't even make a dent in what I need to lose, but at least I didn't gain weight! Vixmom, bk and Jennifer inspire me to stay motivated!
-
Hello, everyone.
I, too, had trouble sleeping last night.
I'm surprised to hear so many positive reports on WALL-E. Maybe I'll have to see it!
-
Good morning!
We had a nice long rainstorm last night which cooled things down enough for me to turn off the A/C and open everything up. It's still overcast this morning and collish (though not as low as I'd like). The house is OK right now, but I just know that the minute I turn the attic fan off and close stuff up, the A/C will flip right on.
-
I'm looking forward to seeing WALL-E, but first I plan to go to see YOUNG AT HEART and see THE FALL again (Greg was out of town when I went with my friend).
-
My DH thought you might enjoy a little sampling of "Dukefest":
-
Page Two Dorothy and Toto Dance!!!
-
I'll be getting WALL-E on Blu-ray in the fall to review. If it comes to the local theater a few blocks from my house (it's not there now), I may walk down there one afternoon and see it on the big screen. If not, the Blu-ray will have to suffice.
-
We have lift-off!
-
I do have (hopefully) MY LIFE ON THE D-LIST to watch today, but the nice thing is that if the audio is screwed up again, Bravo repeats their hit shows enough that I can try another airing to see if that is OK.
I do know that after two weeks of the 10 p.m. airing being an audio nightmare, I'll not record it at that hour again.
-
In the full-sized version of this, you can see my DH in the crows nest with the flag guy, aiming his boom at the General Lee.
-
And, as reported yesterday, I have the lovely JAKE AND THE FATMAN waiting to be reviewed. It's only 11 episodes on three discs, so I should be able to get two of the discs done today and maybe even have time for something fun later.
-
TV tonight:
LAW & ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT
IN PLAIN SIGHT (for those still watching)
-
Wanna buy a used car, cheap?
-
I am excited about BURN NOTICE starting up this week. Once I finish the box set of THE CLOSER I'm watching now, I'll start with BURN NOTICE (which was one of my Deep Discount sale purchases).
-
Good morning, fellow Dear Readers. I have a headache; perhaps that means rain is coming!
-
And here's John Schneider, looking good! Greg said that he was wonderful to work with, very pleasant to everyone, and had tremendous presence and charisma and could light up a room when he walked in.
Some people weren't happy that Tom Wopat was there for such a short period of time, and only signed autographs for an hour or so. But hey! He's on Broadway, what do they expect? He said that he usually doesn't do these things but John told him it was very important (they raised a LOT of money for charity) so he did it.
The one thing I wish I had a picture of was the riding lawnmower race out in the middle of the track. The drivers were decked out like NASCAR drivers, with helmets, etc. and had souped-up lawnmowers!
John Schneider auctioned off his personal motorcycle (seen here) and they also auctioned off the 3 General Lee Dodge Chargers that they wrecked trying to make that 200 ft leap!
-
Good morning to one and all and all and one. I see you out there DRLaura, oh, friend of friends. Sorry I won't see you and your lovely children in church today, but I'm tied up or laid up or something.
We were discussing something during one of DRLaura's visits to me in the hospital and came up with "Steaks and Ankles" This sounds like the title of Bruce's new book-- a murder mystery with a pulp-type illustration of a woman in black elbow-length gloves and wearing stockings with seams.
-
Good morning, fellow Dear Readers. I have a headache; perhaps that means rain is coming!
So sorry about the headache, but I'll admit the rain would be nice!
-
Wasn't Steaks and Ankles a chain restaurant back in the '70's?
Oh...never mind.
Hi, Kerry!
-
Sunday morning greetings! Richard is off to church in Cincinnati. One of these days, I'll get to go, too.
-
Hi, DR Kerry! Do you have your feet propped up? Would you like to borrow my walker? May I have this dance?
Seriously, I hope you're on the mend and not in too much pain!
-
And the word of the day is: PALAVER!
And The Song Of The Day Is; SOMEONE IN A TREE
-
Our steaks and ankles conversation probably made perfect sense to the guy on the other side of the curtain if he was in a drug haze.
-
But then again, it made perfect sense to me at the time.
-
DR Edisaurus, did you husband get to meet James Best at Dukefest?
-
I had hoped to go see WALL-E this weekend, but I don't know if that will happen or not. But I am eager to see it.
-
DR Edisaurus, did you husband get to meet James Best at Dukefest?
I'm not sure! I'll ask when he gets home today (he's working on something for the Braves today.) I know besides the aforementioned folks, he worked with "Daisy Duke" and "Cooter" (Ben Jones, who used to be a state Representative here.) John Schneider sang with "Cooter"'s band.
Looking at their site, I see that James Best was not only there, but he was selling a DVD at his booth!
-
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And it was sooooo nice to sleep in my own bed again last night. The hotel bed was comfortable, but there really is nothing like home. *And I didn't have to worry about walking into the bathroom and seeing ants scurrying around when I turned on the lights.
-
As for the London versions of 1776... Hmm... ??? ??? ???
-
I must say, I'm bummed about NYMF this year: so far no one's called me to ask me work on a production. I hope that changes.
DR elmore - I know a few people who have shows slated for NYMF this fall, and everyone seems to be a little "slow" in regards to assembling production staff - which seems to be sort of the norm for NYMF. Casting (EPAs) starts this week, and I think that's what most of the creative teams are concerned with right now. I've been asked if I'm available/interested for one of the shows, but they can't commit to me until later this month when they find out if one of their original MDs will end up being available for the NYMF run.
And as DR Noel mentioned, there are fewer shows this year, and since most of the shows have been in utero for a while, a bunch of them already have some "teams" on hold from previous incarnations.
-
And speaking of Tom Wopat - He just received a very nice review of his cabaret act in the New York Times. He's performing on Thursday nights through the end of the month - which, I'm guessing, explains why A Catered Affair is having Thursday matinees now (and no Thursday evening performances).

-
Guess I'll head down now and get the laundry sorted and ready for washing. Then, I'll think about what's for lunch.
WBBL.

Do You have any pictures of MARSHA HUNT @ Your 4th Of July Bash? One of my favorite Actresses.

I thought that A CATERED AFFAIR was closing.

Ms Marsha Hunt was one of Paramount's Lucky Seven in 1935 along with Ms Frances Farmer and Eleanore Whitney, Betty Jane Rhoades, Rosalind Keith, Olympe Bradne, and Betty Burgess.

I thought that A CATERED AFFAIR was closing.
They're doing one show week on Thursday afternoon, just to keep their hand in. ;D
-
I never got a photo of Miss Hunt, unfortunately.
-
Got three more hours of sleep, not quite enough.
-
I've already given these guys the yays and nays of NYMF - just more detail today. The one thing that's better, unless they're being lied to, is that they only have to share their theater with one other show. That may alleviate some of the more ridiculous things, like having to store your set in a 4 by 4 space, and having so many light plots in the computer that it can't work, and same with sound. Too bad none of the shows in the past had such a luxury. Of course, if they have a larger space for the set, that means they can have a larger set and that means more money.
-
The publicist is key - we didn't have a great one. Then again, I don't know that FJL had one at all, but he had a great producer getting the word out. And that's the other thing - a producer. I had a general manager, and that made lots of things easier.
-
Last Starfighter's great producer at NYMF was, of course, DR Julie (Julie Miller), who has been busy with movie work and such stuff in recent months.
-
Oh, I did a little research and the London 1776 was never released on CD - not even announced. On The Town was announced but never came out.
-
Larry - I tried to return your call, but it keeps ringing and ringing, and even the machine won't pick up. :(

Ya know, I really think that someone ought to consider turning LAST STARFIGHTER into a movie. I can really see it working.......... wait, oh!

Welcome ten GUESTS.

Am I really going to a ten o'clock meeting in Hollywood on a Sunday. I'd better put on my Sunday clothes, then.
-
Hi, DR Kerry! Do you have your feet propped up? Would you like to borrow my walker? May I have this dance?
Seriously, I hope you're on the mend and not in too much pain!
Actually I still had my walker from last October when I broke the other ankle. Although it makes things a lot easier, it is a depressing thought that I have my own walker. LOL!
I think I'll sit this one out, but thanks for the invitation to dance.
-
They're doing one show week on Thursday afternoon, just to keep their hand in. ;D
Wow, they could set a record for the longest-running, Thursday-only matinee run in Broadway history.
-
Happy Birthday Andrea!
-
Hi Kerry. I hope this ankle will heal faster than the other one did.

I'm still not quite understanding why our usual movie hounds, the ones that run out to see almost any high-profile film within the first couple of days, seem so ambivilent about Wall-E. I'm sure there's a reason, and I'm very interested in learning what it is. There seems to be either a subtle resistence to seeing it, or no interest at all. And I find that odd, given that it's the best-reviewed film of the year.
-
Bruce- I'm sorry I meant to comment yesterday on your photos & say I enjoyed them.
-
DR Kerry - right ankle or left? If it's your right, maybe instead of dancing, we could enter the sack race. Between us, we have 2 good feet ;)
-
Bruce- I'm sorry I meant to comment yesterday on your photos & say I enjoyed them.
Jane, if I knew how to connect to a website like the Tall Ships slideshow, I would have done it; but that is beyond my technical skills.
-
DR TCB - how much of the tall ships display can you see from your balcony? It looks like a spectacular event.
-
And the word of the day is: PALAVER!
A subject best broached by the magnificent story, The Randy Vicar and the 1-900-PALAVER.
-
Does anyone else remember the ALL IN THE FAMILY epsiode where Archie and Mike argued back and forth on whether to put on both socks first, or one sock, one shoe and then the other sock and the other shoe.
He realized recently that I alway put on my left sock, left shoe; and then my right sock and right shoe. I wonder what that means about me?
Anyone else feel like weighing in? Pantyhose doesn't count.
-
Why am I up at four-thirty?
Well, at about four-thirty your time, it was about seven-thirty on the flip-side coast, and we were having a hellacious thunderstorm. It probably woke you up - it certainly did waken me!
-
Well, I suppose we shall "palaver" all day and then some! :)
My TOD: Where and when did everyone meet their first significant other?
-
DR TCB - how much of the tall ships display can you see from your balcony? It looks like a spectacular event.
I could only see the Parade of Ships when they arrived on Thursday afternoon. Where they are currently berthed is on the waterway in downtown Tacoma. However several of the ships are taking passengers for sails (is that a word?) around Puget Sound. So, every now and then I will look up from my 21st Century computer, to witness a 19th century-style ship sailing by.
-
Well, not much to congratulate for me, since it's only been one week and doesn't even make a dent in what I need to lose, but at least I didn't gain weight! Vixmom, bk and Jennifer inspire me to stay motivated!
Not gaining weight is a great thing (if you ask me)! Congrats! :D
-
I know that WALL-E will be around for awhile, so I usually try to see independent films first, since they disappear quickly. I know I will love it when I see it, especially since I like Pixar films and Thomas Newman's music. (bk, have you heard Tomas Newman's score for LITTLE WOMEN? If not, give it a listen and it might change your mind about him.)
-
My TOD: Where and when did everyone meet their first significant other?
I met mine (my current S.O. and the only one I count!) in a cold warehouse working on a film for our friend John, the Merchant Ivory editor. He was the only one who stayed to help me clean up (I was responsible for getting this place to shoot.) I had a miserable cold at the time and working on this didn't help matters, so his kindess impressed me.
I fell in love with him while working out west on a documentary about the farm crisis, back in the 80's. I "loved him once in silence", and it turned out that he felt the same way about me. I wish we had bothered to tell each other this earlier---it would have saved us both years of being miserable with other people we didn't belong with, and we would have had more happy years together, but...better late than never! (Our friend John's father performed our marriage ceremony, which seemed fitting!)
-
Good Afternoon!
A bagel, some coffee and the Sunday Times... Ah, it's sooooo nice being back home in New York City!
:)
-
I think I may have been the first one here to post about Wall-E. I loved it, of course.
One of the great things that tie the Pixar films together (aside from Ratzenberger, who voices John this time around) is the sense of community that they all have. From the toys in Andy's bedroom, through the ant colony, the monster city, the various communities below the sea, the town of garages, and Paris, the adventures of the lead characters have always been seen against the credible worlds they live in.
OK, maybe Cars isn't a good example of credible. I mean, how did they build all these things? Cars don't have hands, dang it! Which is why, of all the Pixar films, Cars is the only one I don't care for. (And this one is up for a sequel? Sheesh.)
And The Incredibles is about a family forced to live without it's community, a community of superheroes who have subsequently been killed off.
Wall-E is different. Wall-E doesn't have a community. He's the last of his kind, and everyone else has either flown off or broken and can only be used for spare parts. But part of the story is how he then finds a community by following Eve. It's a community of both humans and robots, and maybe because of Wall-E the two parts of that community will become one.
Yep, I love Wall-E. And Wall-E.
-
Time to head off to work.
Hasta.
-

That is really heart-warming! That's great you did finally get together and are happy now. :)

Julie, what happened to your sister. A couple of posts, and then she never came back?
-
Larry - I tried to return your call, but it keeps ringing and ringing, and even the machine won't pick up. :(
I had called from the office on my cell, DR FJL; turns out my home phone answering machine was unplugged. I suspect it happened last night while I was vacuuming. Did I tell you all the neighbor directly above me now has bed bugs? Oy!
-
Oh, I guess he finally did get Caller ID.
I got caller ID for DR MBarnum's calls!
-
Julie, what happened to your sister. A couple of posts, and then she never came back?
DR TCB, I just reamed her out for not posting. She said that I post enough she doesn't have to. Poor excuse! I told her to get back on here that she is the one that is the theater buff, not me! She'll be back soon. She has been doing a lot of research on our NY trip and gathering info and working full time at that and I've been between jobs so have more time to be here. Now, next week may be different, you might not see me very much! That's a good thing actually, being hoping this temp to hire job works out.
-
Since we're staying at the Algonquin, I have read a biography on Robert Benchley and Dorothy Parker now and am now reading The Portable Dorothy Parker, so I can educate myself a little before we leave on the 21st.
-
DR JulieC40 - In a scene right out of The Music Man, Richard and I met across the reference desk in the library where I had my first job out of grad school.
Of course, that's where I also met DR Elmore, but that's a different story!

Well i don't go see that many movies. But I can say why I was so excited about SEX & THE CITY and MAMMA MIA, and yet i'm not about WALl-E.
SEX & THE CITY was a show so many of us watched for years. and to me the movie was big news. And i was so excited.
For MAMMA MIA, it is musical theatre, and a big summer blockbuster. And meryl streep. I am very anxious for this.
But WALL-E, i personally did not hear that much about. At least not here. It could be the animated part. Not all adults rush to such movies. Usually the popular ones (say SHREK for example) are movies you have to take your kids to.

These days I'm putting on only right socks and shoes.

I'm curious, when losing weight is it easier if you have a lot to lose or a little?
Sometimes if someone wants to lose 100 lbs say, then i would think just eating healthy and exercising would help a lot. My uncle, can just stop drinking coke and lose!
I had less than 30 to lose. But i'm not weighing myself. At least not yet. I was too freaked out at weighing over 150lbs.
The problem is if i don't exercise or watch what i eat then that is the weight my body likes to be!
-
DR Jennifer - I think losing weight is never easy - whether you are aiming to lose 5 pounds or 50 pounds. Or more. It all has to be done pound by pound, inch by inch. The more weight you have to lose, the longer you have you stick to your diet, modify your eating habits, change your lifestyle patterns, or whatever weight-loss catch-phrase you choose to choose.

I'm not at all ambivilent about Wall-E and can't wait to see it. But this was a holiday weekend and I have had family and friend obligations or have been in desperate need of sleep, since I had all the family and friend obligations beginning roughly 24 hours after I recovered from the flu. I thought about going today, but have had to help Paul get ready for his 60th Birthday party at the local state park this afternoon. I'll get there, just not today
-
Does anyone else remember the ALL IN THE FAMILY epsiode where Archie and Mike argued back and forth on whether to put on both socks first, or one sock, one shoe and then the other sock and the other shoe.
He realized recently that I alway put on my left sock, left shoe; and then my right sock and right shoe. I wonder what that means about me?
Anyone else feel like weighing in? Pantyhose doesn't count.
I remember the episode. I put on my socks first then look around the house for where I left my shoes and then put them on in the order that I find the shoes ;D

I haven't been ambivalent about "Wall-E" either. When the movie opened, I was in the midst of nine-hour rehearsal days, and just was not in the mood to see a movie, any movie after a long day in the studio. -I probably would have fallen asleep sitting in a darkened movie theatre. And then on my one day off, I wanted to spent it outside. I'm hoping to catch it sometime this week.
*I think your view of our ambivalence is due to the fact that you actually saw the movie very close to it's opening weekend. Usually you seem to see movies a few weeks after they have opened, or once they start screening them for Academy members which is usually much later than their initial release date. -Or you don't see them until they get released on DVD. Sometimes we wonder what took you so long. ;)

Sometimes the initial amount of weight is easy to lose, but that's usually water weight. That's why I like to start a diet during my fattest week of the month, when I'm retaining water. I know I'll lose 5-7 pounds within a couple days so it helps me get started. I think the key no matter how much you want to lose is the commitment and desire to actually lose it. When I'm serious it's a lot of work but doesn't feel hard. When I'm not really that serious about it, no matter what it seems I do, I don't lose anything, and I tend to do things that undermine the diet
-
Well, since I'll be in auditions all day tomorrow and Tuesday, I'm going to head out for a bit of walking, exploring and re-acquainting. -And that's not a euphemism. -Or maybe it should be. ??? In any case...
Laters..
-
Well, I've only read up to Page 1, but I must shower, get dressed so that I can usher for The Rocky Horror Show! After that, I'm going to my parents' house to visit with my two aunts who are visiting from California.
Have a good day, all! :D
-
I, too, enjoyed bk's party photos.
-
DR FJL - thanks for your theatre report.
-
DR TCB - Is it truly the tall ships that pique your interest, or the tall sailors?
-
I put on both socks first - in no particular order - and then my shoes - again, in no particular order.
I guess I am just anal.
Watch it elmore!
-
DR JulieC40 - On my way to the grocery store yesterday, since I was in the 'hood, I took the following photos. These may give you a better idea of what to expect, prepare for.
Jose is that the original Cotton Club?
-
Back from a long breakfast meeting. I went over the yays and nays from my perspective, and mentioned the thoughts of Noel and FJL. NYMF has recommended a director to them, who they seem to think is okay. Unbeknownst to me, they'd already talked to Martian Entertainment about general managing the show - ME doesn't seem interested in doing anything with NYMF this year - they're "producers" now, you know. They were part of the team that brought you Glory Days, the fastest closing new musical in years.
-
I only had an English Muffin this morning. Am thinking about jogging and am also thinking a day off from jogging might be nice.
-
DR TCB - Is it truly the tall ships that pique your interest, or the tall sailors?
Actually Mrs. Coleslaw, I haven't been close enough to any of the Tall Ships to see the height or the looks of any of the sailors. However, judging from the photos I have seen of some of the sailors, they are young enough to be my great...uh... nephew.
-
Jane, if I knew how to connect to a website like the Tall Ships slideshow, I would have done it; but that is beyond my technical skills.
LOL- Where were you copying the photos from if not your paper's website?
When you mentioned the photo was from the Tacoma paper I went on-line, found their site & clicked on slide show.
-
Jose is that the original Cotton Club?
Never mind, I found out that it isn't the original, and has only been open since 1978.
-

I got several of the photos from the newspaper, but what I meant was that I didn't know to how do a link to the slideshow.
-
DR Julie, I met Keith in 10th grade, the same day I met our sometime post DR Penny O and the day before I met Bruce.
-
I put my socks on first thing in the morning, before I get out of bed-left sock and then right sock.
I'm about to put my shoes on, left and then right. That is unless I find the right shoe in my hand instead, in which case I will reverse the order.
The things we discuss here. ;D
-
I know I usually come to films very late, but that still doesn't explain why folks like elmore wasn't there opening day with Charlotte or by himself. Or any other first-dayers. It's just odd to me - Sex and the City - EVERYONE was there in the first week. Wall-E a major film, brilliantly-reviewed from a beloved studio - zip. Especially as many here were at Ratatouille opening week, no?
-
Back from a full jog. I'm sure I worked off the English Muffin from this morning.
-
I never go to movies on the opening weekends, in fact, I rarely got see movies in theaters any more. Come to think of it, I am still waiting to see BIRTH OF A NATION.

Charlotte is in Maine doing summer theatre, I was tied up with Kim Criswell's chart and its resutling fatigue - all I want to do is lie around for a few days and watch tv but I'm trying to finish up a major rewrite on this edition of BABES IN TOYLAND this weekend - and I'll get to it at some point.
-
Of course, if Charlotte were in town, she would have wanted to go because she's really into animation. And because I adore her, I would have gone with her.
-
I think it's great that so many of us are too busy to get to a movie on opening weekend that will surely be playing for quite some time.
-
BK, you aren't secretly one of the producers of WALL-E are you?
-
I met my partner at Phoenix College in the court-reporting program.

I'd like to have produced Wall-E. No, as I said, just generally interested in this lack of enthusiasm, which is how I'm reading this. Because there's just been too many instances on this board where the same folks have rushed out to see the brand new film, time and time again. I understand busy, and I'm not criticizing, just finding it interesting, and it IS interesting, this "I'll get to it at some point" line that everyone keeps using. I hope everyone does because it's a marvelously marvelous film.
-
I fell asleep for a while. Had two small sandwiches from Togo - the gal who made them obviously doesn't know how much stuff you're supposed to put on them, because it was almost like eating bread and veggie sandwiches.
-
*DR JulieC40 - Of course, it will not be raining when you and your sister visit New York City. ;)
From your lips to God's ears! ;D Remember we do come from Oregon so we are definitely use to the rain! However, I don't necessarily enjoy it myself.
-
Has anyone (maybe TOMOVOZ) heard of an australian show called THE BLOCK?
It used to play here on HGTV. And i loved it. I even went to youtube to see if they had any of the seasons. But nothing.
I was just curious if there were any seasons after seasons 1 and 2.
It was basically 4 or so australian couples who moved into 4 units and had to redo them room by room. And then at the end there was a big auction. And whoever got the most money won.
-
Right now i'm in the middle of watching season 3 of Britain's Next top model (they play it here on Fashion television and STAR). I realized i missed the first few episodes of this series. So i checked and of course they have it on youtube!
Apparently there is also a season 4.
And for australia's next top model there is a season 3 and 4 (they have only shown 1 and 2 here).
I like australia's better.

Welcome thirteen GUESTS.
-
We really must get some postin' goin' on. You'd think it was a Sunday or something. So much errant and truant behavior.
-
It's really time for page seven, no?
-
Maybe everyone went out to see Wall-E.
-
Make that fourteen GUESTS.
-
Maybe everyone went out to see Wall-E.
Nope, went to see THE INCREDIBLE HULK.

Since people asked, here are just a few pictures from our ceremony.

DR Singdaw, the photos are beautiful! :D Thank you for sharing your special day with us.
Your flower girl found the perfect dress on such short notice.
Great new avatar!

Thanks, DR Jane! :)

Oh, and in answer to DR JulieC40's Question of the Day: we met in 1986; we were both singing in a professional choir in Stamford, Connecticut.
And I generally [but not always] put on my socks before my shoes. Sock, Sock, Shoe, Shoe. I don't think there is a regular right or left first pattern.
-
Lovely photos, singdaw. Many congrats to you and Jayson
-
Nope, went to see THE INCREDIBLE HULK.
I rest my case.
-
Lovely photographs.
-
I've finished one motion picture, and will begin another in about an hour.
-
My absence of late has been due both IP and PC problems.
It has been a easy way to avoid reading any posts by DR TCB.
Congratulations to DR ThrownRice. Thank you for "sharing" your day with your fellow DRs.
My IP problems should be resolved. (always difficult to get through to the service department etc on a weekend). I'm still waiting for my usual PC to be returned with its new hard drive.
-
Thanks for sharing your photos with us, DR Singdaw! You both look very happy!
-
Yes DR Jennifer - I know of "The Block". It was filmed in Sydney.
As there are numerous laws (including taxation issues) involved in the selling of homes etc - plus planning permits etc, we were never convinced that the show was entirely honest! (But then NO reality show is).

Your DH is a cutie and you make a great looking couple! That's great that you both have a love for singing; it's so important to have mutual interests as well as individual interests as well. Great pics! :)

DR JulieC40 is closing in on post #250. Is that a milestone of sorts?

Wonderful photos, David. Congratulations to you both.

It is if you are 249 and a half.

I rest my case.
;D
A fun summer blockbuster movie. Actually, we were a little disappointed, not that I was expecting it to be a good as Iron Man. There were only about 10 other people in the theater with us, all much younger than we are.
The reviews of Wall-E are excellent & I expect those along with word of mouth will draw attention to the film. Before today I had no interest in seeing it.
-
My absence of late has been due both IP and PC problems.
That reminds me.....We learned a new slang word the other day when Bryan text me to say his computer was bricked.
Who is familiar with the expression bricked?
BTW, he emailed today to say it is working again. Maybe he found the part he needed that he thought was packed in storage.
-
Singdaw-
Great Photos.
Congrats again to you and Jayson
-
Wonderful wedding photos!
-
I took a two hour nap...then watched about 15 minutes of a movie and then took an hour nap.
-
Now I feel like I slept waaaaaaaaaaaay too much.
-
You must have been VERY tired.
-
I was pleasantly surprised today to see a preview for THE X-FILES: I WANT TO BELIEVE.
-
Matt H, thank you for the heads up on BURN NOTICE. To my amazement our DVR did not have it set to record.

I still haven't seen either of these movies. I never watched Sex and the City, so didn't really see the point of going. Rataouille is available On Demand, so I know I'll see it at some point...
-
May I join the chorus of folks and say "Thanks for the pictures, Singdaw"! You both look so happy, and Jayson is very cute, too! You make a great-looking couple!
-
DR Singdaw, thanks for sharing your photos. They were great

Well, we had excitement in a major way tonight. I was getting ready to go to Paul's party at Stone State Park when I noticed that a line of storms was headed this way, so I figured I'd wait until the storms passed through then I'd go to the park.
-
I turned on the tv and was watching and sort of paying attention. We had a Severe Thunderstorm Watch but no warnings here at all.
-
Suddenly, the TV announcer said "TORNADO WARNING" If you are in the Sioux City metro take cover NOW a tornado has been reported near Stone State Park !!!
-
Good Evening!
I LOVE NEW YORK CITY!!!!
It turned out to be quite a nice afternoon. Cloudy, but still bright. Warm, but not hot. And the humidity seemed to be in check too.
I ended up heading down to MoMA to check out the new exhibits. There are some truly fascinating exhibitions right now, but if I had to suggest a particular one to anyone right now it would be Dali: Painting and Film (http://moma.org/exhibitions/exhibitions.php?id=5633). A true WOW!!!!!
Each room of the gallery features a different film that Salvador worked on in some form or another. There are projectors and a small sitting area set up in each room, and the films and/or clips run in continuous loops. Around each room are production stills, story boards and various paintings inspired by each film.
The dream sequence from "Spellbound" is featured, as well as some Dali's own film "experiments". However, the highlight for me was a seven-minute "Fantasia"-like film called, "Destino". Dali was approached by Walt Disney to make this film, but after various complications only 18 seconds were completed. However, a few years ago, the team at Disney completed the film using the storyboards that Dali had completed along with the memory of the Disney studio artist, John Hench. It's supposed to be released this fall on DVD as part of a new Disney Treasures tin. *It was also shown with the original theatrical release of "Triplets of Bellville".
The galleries were packed this afternoon - and a bit noisy. I will have to go back again when it is, hopefully, quieter, and sit and absorb all the images.
But again... WOW!
*And the exhibit runs through September 15, so there's still plenty of time to catch it.
-
YIKES!!!! I didn't expect this, so I didn't have the cats ready to go. I grabbed both of them and tried to get the radio. They were having no part of that and scratched the heck out of my arm trying to get away from me, which they succeded in doing. So, I was able to get Callie and put her in her carrier and get her to the basement. But Boo took off and ran upstairs and was playing hide and seek
-
Great pictures David! Thanks for letting us see them.
I'm back from Long Island and the cell phone is charging. I will unplug it tomorrow morning when I wake up to go to work. I will also take it with me to the office and activate the little bugger.
We had a very nice 4th on Long Island. It would have been nice to stay another day or two but that's not possible. Oh, well.
-
DR singdaw - Thanks for sharing your story and pictures from the past few days. I truly am so happy for you and Jayson. I wish both of you many years of continued happiness and Mazel.
-
I nearly had a panic attack. I discovered that yes, I will risk a lot to get that little poop. Anyway, I finally got her and was practically hyperventilating as I got her to the basement. Stone Park is less than a mile or two from here as the crow flies, so if it was there, there was a chance it was coming here.
-
I have a TV down the basement so I sat with the cats for about 1/2 hour until there was an all clear. By that time we had all calmed down and the cats were very happy to leave their carriers.
-
Then I went to Stone Park to the party. The damage on the way wasn't too bad, just some branches and trees down. But man there was a lot of dirt and rock that had washed across the road. When I got to the party, I learned that the ranger had come to the lodge and made everyone go in the ladies room. One person was alert enough to grab 5 gallons of sangria. Another refused to go in the bathroom...he's just like that. I guess it was pretty exciting, but they didn't see any tornados.
-
It was an exciting evening and no real damage so all is OK. Plus this is the 8th post for one story.
-
After I left MoMA, I walked up Fifth Avenue, then walked over to Broadway. It was a great afternoon for wandering.
I ended up grabbing a bit to eat at Nanoosh (http://www.nanoosh.com/). -I think DR Jane would love this place.
Then I walked a few more blocks up Broadway, and picked up a few bottles of wine - some summery whites - at Bacchus (http://www.bacchusnyc.com/).
Then, since I was just a few blocks away, I stopped into Levain (http://www.levainbakery.com) for a Dark Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookie.
:)
-
DR Cillaliz - Glad to hear that you and the cats are safe and unscathed.
-
I never go to movies on the opening weekends, in fact, I rarely got see movies in theaters any more. Come to think of it, I am still waiting to see BIRTH OF A NATION.
Well, at least you were at the birth of the nation.
;D
-
Oh... And I also ended up seeing a movie tonight too...
I <HEART> WALL-E!!!
-
bk - I don't think there were that many DRs who saw "Sex & The City" on it's opening weekend. And I'm sure there are some DRs who haven't seen the movie yet, and probably don't care to see the movie.
I think the HHW NYC contingent may have skewed your perception of our "enthusiasm". Yes, it was an "event", but it was an event for more than just the DRs and lurkers of HHW. I think if there were more DRs on here with kids, then maybe "Wall-E" would have been more of a must-see-now movie.
-
Oh... And I also ended up seeing a movie tonight too...
I <HEART> WALL-E!!!
Yay. I hope everyone gets over any ambivalence and goes to see it. It's a work of art, and entertaining as all get out, and I think we know how entertaining all get out is.
-
Thanks DR Jose! I really did panic more than I thought I would. Usually I'm expecting to have a tornado warning and don't get one. Tonight I was totally caught by surprise. Now that I've had the practice run, I will handle it differently next time....that is unless I panic again :D
-
The brilliant news reporters are still reporting what the brilliant health people are reporting - they "think" the "likely" cause of the salmonella thing "might" be tomatoes, even though they have not ONE shred of evidence or proof. But, they're also looking at other vegetables now. Perhaps they should do a recall of all vegetables while they figure it out.
-
I hear they're blaming the tornado on tomatoes - gas prices, too.
-
I plan to see WALL-E this week sometime. I will be really digging in to work on my murder trial. A movie is a good way to take a break.
-
It is if you are 249 and a half.
I'm 4', 9 1/2" tall, does that count? ;D
-
Hmmmm... This Portuguese vinho verde I picked up earlier is tasty!
:)
-
I hear they're blaming the tornado on tomatoes - gas prices, too.
Yeah, it's the gasses given off from the rotting tomatoes that weren't eaten that caused the rotation in the clouds creating a tornado ;D
-
Yay. I hope everyone gets over any ambivalence and goes to see it. It's a work of art, and entertaining as all get out, and I think we know how entertaining all get out is.
BK - Repeat after me: NO ONE IS AMBIVALENT ABOUT SEEING "WALL-E"!
*However, it is nice to know that there is a film that was made "today" that you actually like and recommend to people. ;)
-
Yikes, DR Cillaliz! I'm glad you and the cats are safe and that the damage was not severe.
My big adventure for the evening was to go down the 2 steps into the family room. Actually, it has crossed my mind just how I'd get to the basement if we had tornado warnings and the "take cover" call. It's more possible now than 3 weeks ago, but still not something I could do with ease.
-
I'm also going to try to start eating right this week. I have just let this getting fat stuff go too far. I really don't like seeing what I look like in a mirror or a photo, so it's time. I may not be perfect because I'm a stress eater, but maybe it will be better than if I don't try to be good
-

The "brilliant news reporters" are only reporting what the staff over at the CDC is reporting. Don't blame the messenger.
*And just be glad that you haven't eaten something over the past few weeks that was tainted with salmonella.

It was an exciting evening and no real damage so all is OK. Plus this is the 8th post for one story.
We are certainly glad you came out without any damage!

We'll probably see Wall-E sometime this week. Do you suppose it's OK for me to go to a movie while I'm on medical leave?
-
DR Jose... I really like all the astericks.

Thanks, DR Cillaliz.
*I like them too.

Tomorrow morning, Richard and I have to go to the lab for me to have a blood test and then we have to go to a funeral.
'night!
-
Well, just checking in and saying goodnight. Watching a Lifetime Movie and going to bed. Night, everyone! Glad everyone is safe!
-
Thanks so much for posting this! I'm sure we'll be taking this in as well! :)
DR JulieC40 - You're very welcome. If you do plan on seeing this, I suggest starting with the Dali exhibition when you go MoMA, then see just how much more of the museum you want to see. Otherwise, it could end up being a very tiring, lots-of-time-on-your-feet, visit. MoMA does publish a "highlights" pamphlet, so that may be a good way to "express" yourselves through the museum.
*Oh, and I really like the dining room on the fifth floor - especially if you can get a table on the outside balcony overlooking the sculpture garden.
-
DR Cillaliz - Glad to hear that you and the cats are safe and unscathed.
Sounds like Boo scathed her a bit.
I am glad you are ok and there was no tornado that came your way.
-
Thanks for the wedding photos, Singdaw.
Mixups, mayhem, and a gay wedding! (a "The Drowsy Chaperone" reference.)

It's always something when you have an ass to risk***********************************
-
Ugh! I just checked my schedule for tomorrow. I'll be at the Equity building all day - which means no internet access. :-\
-
Thanks Julie and Laura. Yes my arm is scathed by Callie and my nerves were scathed by Boo. Nothing I won't recover from quickly.
-
...And I've caught up on the most recent episode of "Legally Blonde The Musical: The Search for Elle Woods"...
OY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Initials Game in two hours. I'll just say that this week's initials are really good, and I, personally, have already come up with seventy-three names, and I don't believe I've scratched the surface.
-
Well, no one can say we didn't get to page nine.
-
Of course, we've got two hours to get to page ten.
-
Yay. I hope everyone gets over any ambivalence and goes to see it. It's a work of art, and entertaining as all get out, and I think we know how entertaining all get out is.
I have no ambilvalence and am looking very forward to seeing it...perhaps next weekend.
Although, I may have already stated this.

I remember that. :) I put on my right sock, left sock, left shoe, right shoe.
And I put on my pantyhose the right foot then left foot. ;)

I am alive.
I have watched four (count 'em 4) movies in the Carmen Miranda DVD box today. The movies were "Greenwich Village,""Doll Face", "Something for the Boys" and "If I'm Lucky." These four also feature Vivian Blaine. Perry Como is in two of them as is Phil Silvers.
They are simply wonderful films. I'd never seen any of them and they're delightful, well-paced and two of them are in glorious Technicolor. They are clean but the color is alternately okay and then spectacular. The other two (Doll Face & If I'm Lucky) are in dazzling B&W.
The thought occurred to me while watching these films that they are a lot more enjoyable -- in many ways -- than the Betty Grable and Alice Faye musicals, and I think I know why. In these films, no one was a "huge" star. Yes, Miranda was big, but she never carried an entire film. Yes, she starred in a few and she was spectacularly featured, especially in Technicolor, but she was a comic relief and entertainment as part of the overall plot. What I am getting at here is that the Grable and Faye films "featured" those big "stars" in numbers that all-too-often went on and on but numbers that I don't think merited all the fuss. They gave those big stars "moments" throughout their films that, in hindsight, seem to slow the pictures down a bit.
The films in this Miranda set are under 90 minutes, pack a whole lot of story and song and dance into those minutes, and all still seem shorter than their running times. Vivian Blaine was terrific as a leading lady. And I think Perry Como was terrific, too. His songs are all winning and memorable. Supporting casting was superb in these films, and the production values are top-notch.

Don't post all 73 names this time BK, give us latecomers a chance!
-
I think I will add a few of those Miranda films to my Netflix queue, RLP.

Why don't you tell us the initials now so we can get a head start, too.

I, too, enjoyed bk's party photos.
Me, three! And I love your new avatar, Singdaw! Very nice photo! ;D

I am somewhat ambivalent about the Bollywood movie that I am watching right now. It has no subtitles, but it doesn't matter because it is a movie about prehistoric cave people...a Hindi ONE MILLION YEARS B.C.
The movie is PURANA PURUSH (1978).
And yes, it does have musical numbers... and dinosaurs.

I haven't actually gone to a movie on the opening weekend in years! I absolutely plan to see Wall-E very soon, though. I am really looking forward to this. :D But to quote a song from I Love You Because (http://www.amazon.com/Love-Because-2006-Original-Off-Broadway/dp/B000HDZJYC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1215407779&sr=1-1)..."Just not now."
-
I do not go to movies. At all.
-
Singdaw, those were lovely pictures of your wedding! Thanks for posting them...and Congrats, again!! ;D
-
I gotta tell you.
-
Oh, I won't do all seventy-three, and I'm sure many others will get most, but not all, my seventy-three. But, hang out till midnight and get a head start.
-
Oh, I did a little research and the London 1776 was never released on CD - not even announced. On The Town was announced but never came out.
I wonder what (other than money) it would take to release this on CD. :)

Perry Como is in two of them as is Phil Silvers.
When I first glanced at this, I thought that you had written "Perry Como is in two of them as Phil Silvers."
Perry Como is playing Phil Silvers??
;D

Perry Como is probably my favorite of the classic male singers. A real Guy Haines role model. And Mr. Silvers is brilliant.

Was brilliant.

Is brilliant.

Today, I ushered for The Rocky Horror Show. It was a very good (if too loud) production and the performances were quite enjoyable. ;) The costumes (what there was of them) were very original. It's not Tim Curry's Rocky Horror, but definitely a good time was had by all. ;D
They've extended their run by three weeks (this is the middle of the first extention and I'm glad...I wouldn't have been able to see it, if they hadn't) and may extend another two. It's that popular!
