And the word of the day is: ALEMBIC!In the television series Pinky and the Brain, the two stalwart LAB MICE can frequently be seen with a glass ALEMBIC still burbling in the background.
...her daughter Alexis, who just got back yesterday(!) from studying a year in France!...Why would anyone go to France to study a year? I can understand going to France to study the cooking, or the art and archetecture, or perhaps the history, or maybe even winemaking, but a year can be studied practically anywhere.
DR Jose - thank you for sharing your wonderful yesterday with us. The photos were smashing and the day sounds like a lot of fun.
Thanks for your posted pictures last night, DR Jose. Always love pictures of Broadway and its stars. I wish you had taken one in tandem with Walter. I've mentioned here many times I saw him and loved him in both TWO BY TWO and GRAND HOTEL, and would love to have a picture of the two of you together.
...BIG BROTHER 10 (for those still watching). There is a gay contestant on the show in this cycle, and, of course, one of the other contestants on a CBS promo spouting the usual Bible-thumping hatred before the show even starts talking about how gays aren't going to heaven. How completely and totally tiresome.I think they should at least include a health advisory warning: EXCESSIVE REPETITIVE BIBLE THUMPING MAY CAUSE INJURY TO THE WRISTS!!!
Thank you DR Jose & DR JRand.
The photos are sweet. I hope loads of pets found loving homes.
You're welcome, DR MattH.
I did not take a pic of myself with Walter, however, I did take this picture:

Just had a thought, before I dash:
The film version of Mamma Mia = High School Musical for people with wrinkles.
What are you doing reading this, DR CILLA LIZ....go get your roses!
It is a beatiful summer Sunday here! With a beautifully refreshing cool breeze blowing.
Zach's choke chain just broke during our recent walk, so I guess we'll be heading to the pet shop shortly.
At that price, DR Cillaliz, you should splurge and get a dozen for the office, too! :)
DR MBarnum - are you feeling better today?
Remember, the choke chain is supposed to go Zach. Not you.
I will - now that I know about it.
And a fine selection of HHW DRs to fill the cabinet posts! :)
...and take the oil companies to task and give them twenty-four hours to roll back prices to $3.00 a gallon for starters.
... or simply tax the wealthiest of businesses in a major way,
In which they they will raise their prices to re-coup their loss.

I love flowers.
Woops, I shoud have dead headed those before snapping a photo.
DR Cillaliz - glad you had a successful "run for the roses." What color did you get?
They won't because there will be more penalites if they do. I think it's time for some of these obscenely profitible companies to share the wealth.
The show was filmed in 2000-2001 before either Robert or John was deceased.
... all it would take to really effect change is two million people standing up and saying "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore" and then refusing to pay taxes. Want to know how fast things would change? Instantly.
My friend Wayne just sent me this.
A few of them look like relatives of mine.
Wow, a mere three hundred postings to go until I achieve a rather astonishing new number.
We really must get some postin' goin' on. I'm listening to Henry Mancini's score to The Man Who Loved Women. The film was almost a complete misfire from Blake Edwards (based on the very good Truffaut film), but the score by Mancini has some lovely melodies in it. This is a new Varese Sarabande limited edition club title - a bit too much source music on it for my taste, and I'll probably put it into iTunes and leave those tracks off.
I stopped on the way home from the pet shop to buy a strawberry-rhubarb pie.
Sadly, I discovered that my favorite place for such activities has closed. The interior was stripped bare, and there was a "for lease" sign in the window. :'(
My new way to deal with relatives who insist on emailing me nonsense when I try to tell them all I'm too busy to deal with it....block them as junk!
The delightful DR Elmore called and tormented me on the phone.
You're right - instant anarchy and choas followed shortly by a government of organized crime.

A left-brain engineer trying to talk logic to a right brain artist is on a fool's errand
Crank out a few more "I gotta tell you" and "Will we ever get to page X", and you'll be there before you know it!
::)
My approach is to tell people my computer can't handle the megabites, or whatever it is. I know Keith is always complaining this stuff takes up too much space.
What if you miss an important email?
...Zach's choke chain just broke during our recent walk, so I guess we'll be heading to the pet shop shortly. It's a good thing we know your husband is named Jayson and not Zach. This kind of announcment could cause all sorts of confusion!
My favorite flowers....this hanging basket is even fuller now that it was when I shot this photo.A fuller hanging basket. Now THAT'S what I call a euphemism!

I really got a lot accomplished today. Boy! does that feel good.
Oh, der Brucer you're just towing the same party line that's been towed for the last 100 years, which is why nothing ever changes. I'm going to weep for the "small" profit margin, emphasis on the word profit, of billions of dollars? That's some small profit margin - you believe what you want and I'll believe what I want. The financial waste using people's tax dollars is appalling and all it would take to really effect change is two million people standing up and saying "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore" and then refusing to pay taxes. Want to know how fast things would change? Instantly.I am now trying to imagine our esteemed BK trying to buy the canned tuna and pasta he needed for his pasta salad at Gelson's without paying the sales tax. I can see him leaving the store. I can see him leaving the store empty handed. After a few more attempts at trying to buy his tuna and pasta without paying the sales tax, I can see him told by management not to come back to the store.
What will be your first White House scandal, BK?

Regardless, they both have toys.

Yes, BK, they can refuse to sell to you if you refuse to pay.
And that goes for the sales tax at every restaurant you go to, as well.
Your new diet is going to be a gangbusters success.
(Of course, you could move here to Delaware, where we don't have any sales taxes. But first you're going to get here without paying the required taxes along the way.)
In other news...
Madeleine Patisserie was featuring Vanilla Truffles and Pistachio Truffles today. :)
I just checked along the street - we still have fireflies, half-way through July. Der Brucer told me they wouldn't last past the Fourth, but there they are, creating their magic as they flit their horny way through the brush and dell.
My White House scandal will be painting the White House pink.
We had a lovely rainstorm.
I got a Hillary Clinton Birthday Card with the Whitehouse painted pink

Next Saturday we are having our annual "Christmas in July" function. It is held in memory of my Mother (Her Birthdate is July 20th). This year's luncheon will be on July 19th. It is OZ Derek's birthday.
For those who remember - Derek's "Ted" lives here. He is taking an airmail journey to Tasmania to spend July 19th (plus a few months) with Derek's sister Maureen. Also making the journey is "Bro" Bear from NYC - a gift from The Vixter. Both Bears are very excited!
We had tilapia, wild rice and sauteed squash for dinner and some fresh fruit for dessert. I went shopping this morning before Anthony came back from Long Island. I already had the tilapia but he brought back a huge squash from Rose and Phil's garden. I cut it in half and sauteed it and it was delish.
I gotta tell you.
DR Cillaliz - just don't forget to take time to smell the roses!

You know, I always see different types of squash at the store and I want to buy some but have no idea how to cook it...an example of how to sautee squash would be most welcome.
DR JulieC40 - sounds like you had a fun weekend to top off a stressful week. Here's to your second week on the job!
Grrrrr.
That is all.

Unless, of course, the year she was studying had particular meaning in France, and little meaning anywhere else. That would explain her trip.
My friend David Wechter just forwarded this to me - I'd heard it was happening but I had no idea how far it had gone and how popular I was becoming:

We had a nice long chat with Craig today. He has had a couple of good job interviews for two different positions. Keeping my fingers crossed!!!!!
And I concluded my evening with tonight's LAW & ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT. A pretty good episode, and I did guess the identity of the murderer though my ideas about the motive were a little off. Joan Jett was the most famous name in the guest star list.
