Well, you've read the notes, the notes were abbreviated (not really) and now it is time for you to post until the abbreviated cows come home (CCH).
-
And the word of the day is: ASPERSE!
-
And it is time I signed off and allowed the morning posters (not the mourning ones) free reign.
-
Well, no one can say we didn't get to page one.
-
I am still waiting for the storm.
-
I guess the Fanny Pack looked too much like an "ass purse" for those who started wearing it as a modern-day version of the sporran.
-
I am still waiting for the storm.
I hope all your hatches are battened.
:)
-
DR Elmore3003: I was sorry to read that your crabby got all sunburned. Perhaps you'll remember to put sunscreen on it, too, next time you're out romping among the dunes.
-
DR Jennifer: re: your comment about being "confused."
You watched "Will and Grace", yes? Don't you remember Jack and Karen making out a lot? I don't understand it, either, but I know it happens. Both those houseguests may have it in mind to do a bit of experimentation. She may hope to "turn" him, and he may simply be willing to let her try to see just what might happen.
-
An"asperse" is something along the lines of a fishing rod: When you cast it, it becomes an "aspersion."
And folks cast aspersions a lot around here! :D
-
Past my bedtime it is. Tonight, I watched Merian C. Cooper's "The Last Days of Pompeii", an interesting film from 1935 filled with great scenery, some incredible spectacle for its time, and a volcanic eruption finale that destroys Pompeii. Oops! I hope I didn't give away too much about what happens.
-
I successfully installed the printer (and necessary programs) for my new printer! I actually printed some stuff and it looks wonderful! Those who have asked for the recordings of 1776 (Ben, Singdaw and Ron) will be getting some nicely printed booklets. :D
-
I also watched the sci-fi film "Jumper" this e'en. Interesting. A let-it-roll-over-you film you don't want to think about but which you can enjoy for its scenery, its special effects, and even its non-charismatic lead Hayden Christensen. I didn't mind the time I gave to it, and it has a wonderful score by John Powell who also scored "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" (another wonderful score, IMO).

Not a problem for me...I watched the episode of "Doctor Who" where they went back in time to Pompeii when the volcano blew.
;)

Ooh! Rah!
I didn't know you did a booklet, too! I can hardly wait.
-
Oh...and thanks in advance for doing this, George! :D

This is one of those not-very-well-written movies that I actually want to see because of the special effects. :)
-
Ciao-ders.
-
This is one of those not-very-well-written movies that I actually want to see because of the special effects. :)
P.S. I think it's one you won't be sorry you watched. Don't take it seriously, enjoy some incredible location shooting in Rome (!!), and enjoy Jamie Bell's rather enjoyable performance as a "fellow" Jumper who has been around much longer and knows a thing or two about the life the Jumper must lead.
-
Thanks for the info, Ron. And good night.
-
Finally, I saw a bolt of lightening. I hope it rains a lot!
-
Ooh! Rah!
I didn't know you did a booklet, too! I can hardly wait.
They're scans of the covers with the track lists on the inside.
-
Well, it's time for me to hit the hay...because I want to. :)

But before I go:
A Very Happy Birthday to our very own Miss Karen!!

DR Tomovoz - It was nice to see so much of you last night and early this morning. And that is not a euphemism!! :)
-
Hoo and Ray for DR Jane!!! And CONGRATULATIONS on your lofty new milestone!!! :)
-
I don't know where I get such an undeserved reputation for being such a blabbermouth. ;)
-
DearReaderLaura DR went to bed and left us in suspense about her storm.
-
I shall leave us in suspense about PAGE TWO.
-
A page 2 huzzah for Miss karen's birthday!!!!
-
Or maybe a hora?
-
Congrats to der B on his lofty plateau
-
The storm with all its warnings was a disappointment so far: I can see that the sidewalk is damp, but that's it.
-
Happy Happy Birthday to Miss Karen!!!!
-
DR RonP, I did watch Will & Grace, although not a lot. I never saw jack and karen make out.
But actually i got quite sick after i posted last night. My eyes were burning so badly and my head was pounding so hard. I was afraid i was going to get a migraine.
So i left the computer on and didn't even read the BB live feed updates (more than the heading i posted). So i still don't know what happened!
-
DR Jane, i can imagine that smelling a flight attendant's perfume would drive me over the edge. I hate it when i am early at the movie theatre and find a seat. and then right before the movie starts some smelly person sits down behind me! For some reason that has happened more than once.
I don't know what the heck kind of perfume this was (from last night). But i still smell it in my kitchen (which doesn't make sense to me). But my eyes started burning mildly again this morning. :(
Oh well not too bad.
-
Happy Birthday to DR karen!
-
I was going to make blueberry muffins this morning. But my niece called at 7am (she likes to call shen she wakes up) and said she wants me to wait so she can make them.
Of course when she arrives she'll probably forget she said that and ask where they are! :)
-
Good morning, all! I am spending a quiet day doing as little as possible beyond the work on Kip Wilborn's chart. This afternoon I will be attending a farewell party for my friend Charlei Harmon, who is giving up his Brooklyn co-op and moving to Alabama to be an orchestra librarian. I've known Charlie since the mid-1980s when he was the editor for Amberson, Bernstein's publishing company, and he hired me to do several choral arrangements as well as work on 1600 PENNSYLVANIA AVENUE. In 1997 or so, he asked me to orchestrate ON THE TOWN for the Public Theatre production and I had to turn him down because I was too busy with a couple of Rodgers&Hart projects. I recommended Bruce Coughlin since Bruce had worked on other Bernstein projects and our paths crossed occasionally in the Bernstein apartment at the Dakota. In 1999, Charlie asked me to score the National Theatre of Great Britain production of CANDIDE and I said yes. For all intents and purposes, Charlie hired me, faxed my resume to the National Theatre and went on a vacation of several weeks. When he returned, he notified me that Bernstein's executor Harry Kraut had overruled him and hired Bruce Coughlin, who scored the London production. The title of my next book will be TWO TOADS IN CAHOOTS.
Charlie left the Bernstein world shortly thereafter although he had a lot of work invested in the Encores! WONDERFUL TOWN, and I notice that his name is either missing or hard to find on the vocal scores to WONDERFUL TOWN and ON THE TOWN, a pity since he had a lot of work in both of them, and as far as I'm concerned they're mostly his work, and with his departure, the plans to publish the full scores to the two shows seems tohave vanished.
At any rate, Charlie's a great friend, and I will miss him. The last time I saw him, he came to last year's NYMF and laughed enormously through THE BRAIN FROM PLANET X.
And now for a nap.
-
Good morning!
Another not-so-cool morning with semi-muggy humidity. Ugh! Is summer over yet?
-
Sunday morning greetings! Another quiet day for me, but at least I brought home enough leftover pineapple chicken last night to have a nice lunch later today.
-
Happiest of birthdays to DR Miss Karen!!!
-
Happy Birthday to DR Miss Karen!

On the subject of the experimentation on BIG BROTHER.
The fact is that the world of sexuality is not really a black and white place. My last partner was married for 20 years, sired two children, and had an open marriage of sorts with his wife in terms of his sexuality. Yet, he claimed he was 100% gay, not bisexual.
People experiment. They're curious. They're attracted to other people and often don't worry about labels on "what they are." I think young people especially are, if not more open to experimentation than my generation, at least more open about it to the world.
-
Today I'll be settling in with Kurosawa's HIGH AND LOW. I suspect I'll be with this set for most of the afternoon and evening. Having never seen it, I'm looking forward to it.
-
Miss Karen, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Don't party too hard! :)
-
I'll also finish FEAR ITSELF which I began last night and then begin THE MOLE if I'm still eating lunch by the time FEAR ITSELF is over.
-
If I have some time left over tonight, I'll be pulling out the sDVD version of THE SCORPION KING and going through the bonus features on the disc. I'm supposed to get the Blu-ray disc review copy of the film tomorrow, and as I'll be fighting a deadline (the film streets on Tuesday), watching those bonuses and noting what I can about them will save me some valuable time tomorrow.
-
Tonight on TV:
LAW & ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT on USA
IN PLAIN SIGHT on USA
That new reality series on casting someone for some appearance in HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL (a music video perhaps?) is on ABC tonight, too.
And, of course, for fans of the show, BIG BROTHER is on.
-
Well, now, I finally clicked on the link to Summer Shorts 2 that DR FJL posted last night and discovered that we'll be in NYC just as the event is wrapping up. Thinkin' about going on Thursday, August 28 - anyone interested in joining us?
-
Happy Birthday, Miss Karen.
Re: FJL's post yesterday about the play The Waters of March. The Waters of March is, of course, one of the great later Jobim compositions, a magnificent stream (no pun intended) of consciousness lyric with a deceptively simply tune. It was introduced to American audiences by Sergio Mendes, and one of the funniest things I have ever seen in my life was Brasil '77's performance of the song live on The Tonight Show. The lyric, for those of you who haven't heard it, is simply a list of things which really have little to do with each other, and poor lead singer Bonnie Bowden went completely up, there in front of millions. With a frozen smile on her face, she "la la"'d and hummed her way through about a verse and a half until she found her bearings again. I loved every agonizing minute of it. :)
-
Thanks so much for all of the great vibes and good wishes/congrats on the completion of my Master work -- and for all of the Happy Birthday salutations!
Most appreciated, Dear HHWers!
-
DR Ginny ~ Tell DH Ha-HA:
"Wahoo! Way to Go! You Da Man!" from me on his completion of his Master work. (If I were there, I'd give him a high five).
-
Off to save some souls!

If I didn't already have tickets for Aug 10, I'd join you.
-
Off to save some souls!
Be sure to put a "Make It Rain" slip in the prayer basket -- for both down there in the Valley and up here on the Hill.
-
DR Miss Karen - thanks for the wishes for my DH. This is his 3rd Master's, but probably the one he should have gotten a long time ago.
-
DR Elmore - OK, we'll keep looking forward to the theater date we have with you for the 29th then!
-
DR Miss Karen - thanks for the wishes for my DH. This is his 3rd Master's, but probably the one he should have gotten a long time ago.
Three of them?! Holy Moly!! He is "Da Man"! I barely survived this one! This is, was, and will be my one and only. (As everyone has been asking me) What does DH plan to do with his Master? Does he want a Doctorate? Which areas has his Master work been in?
-

I've know DH Richard since 1958 or so; trust me: he's insane!
-
Um, actually, DR Miss Karen, my DH already has a doctorate. His other 2 Master's and his Ph. D. are in educational fields and he's been retired 5 years from public school teaching/administration. This current Master of Arts in Ministry represents a whole new direction for him, picking up on the vocational goal he outlined for himself back in 8th grade (long before I knew him).
Need I say he really loves going to school?
-

1958?! Another Holy Moly! U guys go way back. Are U brothers are something?
(notice I'm using U for you in honor of bk and today's column -- yep, it's called kissin' A with hopes I score points for the HHW toaster I've been waiting on since I hit godland)

Good Morning!
Greetings from MCO - a.k.a. the Orlando International Airport.
We disembarked the Disney Wonder around 8:30, and I was at the airport by 9:30. And I was through the TSA screening by 9:55! :) -Which kind of surprised me since it was quite a busy check-in area when I checked in. However, they kept opening new lines in the security area when i got there, and was able to move right through with barely a pause.
My flight does not leave until 2:00, and there was no room on the 11:00 flight to fly standby. -And my flight is apparently packed too. -I wonder if they' are going to be looking for "volunteers"? Hmm...
-
Happiest of birthdays to DR MISS KAREN.
-
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DR MISS KAREN!!!!!

A quadruple Holy Moly!! Three Masters AND a Doctorate?! (I'm on my knees facing toward Ohio, bowing, and chanting, "I'm not worthy!")
-
Travel (or "volunteer") vibes to DR Jose!
-
DR TOMovOZ said yesterday that the opera version of THE FLY opened in France....wonder how things went....do you think THE FLY has legs?
-
What a wonderful time DR JOSE is having working and vacationing all on Uncle Walt's dime! Of course we really need FOTOS of the events.
-
So, since I have a few hours here at the airport before I board...
I've caught up on my emails. I've transferred my photos from my camera to my computer. I've already edited some of the pics. And, now, I'm a-readin' and a-postin'.
-
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DR MISS KAREN!!!!!
If you meant that, then where is my Monkey Cake?! Hummm? ::)
-
DR elmore - I hope you have a much better day today than you had yesterday.
-
AMS had a fine CN last night. The cast gave me a lovely gift, a GC to BaN for $75.....which I will spend this week.
I am auditing auditionings for TIOBE in a couple of hours, and helping to build the set for SIR. Just a typical Sunday in IN!
-
-And unlike at LGA, the wireless internet connection here at MCO is free! :)
-
Good morning all. I have caught up, but hear thunder, so I should probably sign off
-
Let me just say HAPPY BIRTHDAY MISS KAREN!!!!
-
VIBES AND CONGRATS TO ANYONE WHO I MISSED YESTERDAY~~~~~~~~~~

Our set looked like this at 5 p.m.
-
It looked like this at about 11:45 p.m.

And by 1 a.m. - it was gone.

Already bitten to the quick....good thing I can't reach my toes. ;D

Yes, one master's degree was enough for me. The superintendent of the school system where I worked hounded me for years after I got my MA to go on for my doctorate. Yes, it would have meant more money in my pay check, but I saw no sense in getting a doctorate to continue teaching middle school. I had no interest in college teaching or public school adminstration, and I just didn't see the sense in getting a Ph.D. just for the sake of it. Also, I put SO MUCH PRESSURE on myself as a student that I was just relieved to be free of all that pressure. Sure, I had to continue to go back to school every five years to keep my teaching credential valid, but taking two classes during a five year period for renewal purposes was a great deal less pressure-filled than working to make A's in course work for a degree.
-
One of the few things I despise about doing community theater - strike after you've done your last show and are completely exhausted.
-
Well, here a few photos until I get the rest of edited and resized...
I call this one, "Breakfast On The Beach" (or "Castaway Cay Cocktail"):

I guess I'll head down now and get lunch started while also getting clothes sorted for today's laundry chores.
WBBL.
-
DR elmore - I hope you have a much better day today than you had yesterday.
Thanks, dear! I actually had a wonderful day, and the reports this morning are that last night's concert went quite well, even though the drummer and pianist never looked at the conductor. The sunburn, which was the prime reason I was feeling crabby, seems much less today and being confined to a room with AC is truly balm to the soul.
-
Whew, DR JRand, that was fast work!
Yep, the "art" of striking a set .... Whenever I strike a set, I'm always hit by that realization that it's such long, painstaking work to create something, but such quick work to destroy something...
-
Whelp, time to go celebrate and par-tay!
-
The second night of the cruise is their "Pirates IN the Caribbean Night". Kids dress up. Parents dress up. The Staff dresses up. I did not dress up - although, they do provide everyone with a Pirates' Bandana at dinner. They finish off the evening with a HUGE on-deck dance party complete with a HUGE food buffet and a fireworks! -DCL is the only cruise line that shoots their own fireworks off the boat!
The buffet features all sorts of food, and there are two full tables set aside just for the desserts. However, at the end of the "savory table", they offer freshly made crepes filled with strawberries - which you can get a la mod if your like. To help keep up with the demand for the crepes they employ a fully automated crepe making machine. It's sort of of hard to describe, so I shall just post a picture of it instead.
-Who knew?

I still remember feeling a bit sad after the first cycle of the Kennedy Center's Sondheim Celebration had finished up. The day after Sweeney Todd had closed, I had to go back to the KC to rehearse for the Aida (the Elton John/Tim Rice one, not the Verdi). On the plaza outside of the KC was a big dumpster. And in the dumpster were remnants of the sets of Sweeney Todd, Sunday in the Park with George, and Company. What a truly depressing site.
-
Whew, DR JRand, that was fast work!
We had a good crew....and of course once the siding was off the house, we only had some framing to take apart. Just a little bit of furniture and a few flats....so then it was PIZZA TIME.
Me, too, DR MATTH, me, too.
And of course DR MISS KAREN, aka TBG, you have to load up into your car ALL of the stuff you have taken to the theatre over the last FOUR weeks in a LOT of trips...and then try to figure out exactly where it belongs at home.....at 2 a.m. :P

Oh.....the only thing that saves me from such a sorry sight is that at PCPH we recycle everything right down to the screws.... 8)

On the final night of the cruise, DCL does a "Sail Away" party which is basically one final big "meet and greet" with the Disney Characters that have been making appearances throughout the cruise. It's a true joy watching all the kids and kids at heart going up to Belle, Mickey, Chip and Dale, Peter Pan, Cinderella, etc., to get their "autographs", and have a picture taken with them.
Since I was working as "staff" on this cruise, I was able to meet all the characters before they headed out into the Atrium. And since I actually knew a bunch of the characters - well, the people "inside" the characters, it was also good time to say Goodbye to everyone. So...
Here I am with my friend, AJ:
The other 100 Dalmations were still running around Deck 10. ;)
-
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MISS KAREN!!!!
-
A gyrocrepe AND fireworks.....that Disney sure knows how to make its customers happy!
-
And here I am with Stitch of "Lilo & Stitch" fame:
-
DR JOSE is that a dalmatian tuxedo or dalmatian tails? I want a pair of dalmatian tails.....
-
Continuing yestday's topic of what shows did we watch:
Ed Sulllivan was always there, Lucy was also always there. Between syndiicated reruns of "I Love Lucy,' The Lucy-Desi ComedyHour" and new episodes of "The Lucy Show" you could watch Lucy 3 or 4 times a day even back then when we only had 4 stations and much of the programming consisted of test patterns. Gale Storm, Ann Sothern and Joan Davis all had their shows in reruns too.
Oh, and of course, "American Bandstand"
-
*And I have to say, Disney really goes to great lengths to train their "Characters" well. If they are a "live" person, they are "trained" on their posture, their accent, signature hand motions, etc. If they are costumed, they are still trained how to move properly in the costume, and they are also silent - the costumed characters do not speak. -And will not speak even when prompted to - even if they happen to know the person on the "outside".
However, I think the coolest thing about the character training, is that they are all trained in how to write like the characters when they are asked for autographs. Yes, Winnie the Pooh has his own style!
-
DR JOSE is that a dalmatian tuxedo or dalmatian tails? I want a pair of dalmatian tails.....
Tails, of course!
-
A gyrocrepe AND fireworks.....that Disney sure knows how to make its customers happy!
Yes, they do...
Each night of the cruise, they host a themed dance party in one of their "Adults Only" bars on the ship. It's either by decade or genre. On this cruise, they had a Disco night, an 80's night, and then they finished up with a Rockin' Country Night last night. -They rotate through 10 or 12 different themes. To kick off each "party", a group of performers from the Theatre staff comes over and does a bit of choreography to help get the guests in the mood. Well, since last night was Country night...

DR Jose - love the photos!
Several years ago, my sister got to take a behind-the-scenes tour at Disney World. When she asked how many people were trained to portray Mickey the answer was, "Ma'am, there's only ONE Mickey Mouse."
-
Happy Birthday to Miss Karen!
-
OH!
What I was really looking forward to on this cruise was seeing their new show: "Toy Story: The Musical". I had played almost all of the New York City auditions as well as the final set of callbacks, so I knew almost everyone in this first cast of the show. They have another month left before their contract cycle ends, and then the new cast - which is currently rehearsing in Toronto - will be coming in. And it was also great getting to play for some of them during the audition workshop.
-
DR Ben - how was your trip to the other side (aka NJ)?
-
DR Jose - love the photos!

Oh.. That's right... That is correct!
(spoo?)
-
And one of my most memorable library-related trainings was when several Disney Imagineers spoke to a bunch of librarians about how to enhance the visitor experience. One of them said, "No one leaves humming the scenery."
-
Well, I believe I'm going to walk around a bit and get a bite to eat, as well to see if there's any way I can change my seat assignment.
Laters...
-
I'm up, I'm up.
-
It's overcast outside - it was yesterday, too, but that didn't stop it from being in the high 90s.
-
Why is that black country dancer wearing lip gloss?
-
Oh, and it turns out one of the CDs I got yesterday I already had - DRG's reissue of Bravo Giovanni - it was seven bucks - if anyone wants it, let me know.

A VERY HAPPY DAY TO DR MISS KAREN!!!!

DR Jane, i can imagine that smelling a flight attendant's perfume would drive me over the edge. I hate it when i am early at the movie theatre and find a seat. and then right before the movie starts some smelly person sits down behind me! For some reason that has happened more than once.
I wasn't a happy camper on the flight, and I know what you mean about the theater.
I fortunately have one perfume I'm not allergic to, and it helps to counter other smells. I spray it on my wrist & then hold my wrist up to my face. I may look silly but it works.
-
A big ole happy birthday to the newly educated DR Miss Karen!
Have a wonderful day!!!

From Bruce:
Well, first off congrats to Jane on 18,000 posts
Thank you all for the congrats on my landmark post. I never pay attention to these and had no idea my last post of the evening was timed so well.
-
SAFE AND EASY TRAVEL VIBES DR JOSE!
-
My sister and I are getting REALLY excited about our New York trip! We do have a Ringo Starr concert tonight that should be really fun too! :)
-
From Tomovoz:
I have the clean up the crumbs etc on the floor.
It is very EMPTY here.
I know what you mean :'( I went about 38 years before going without at least one cat. It is hard. I'm hurting for you.
While I didnt have the pleasure of meeting Magnus & Fosca in person, in my heart I felt I knew them as I do all our pets here at HHW.
-
DR Julie C40, it is nice you have something exciting to counter your job related problems. Have a great trip.
-
Is anyone having problems with Paypal? I noticed someone in here the other day mentioned it. I go in from E-Bay and it keeps saying the connection is busy. Strange, huh?
-
DR Matt H, I used to watch THE TRANSFORMERS with Bryan & Craig. It was fun reading your posts.
-
DR Julie C40, it is nice you have something exciting to counter your job related problems. Have a great trip.
You said it, honey! Ain't that the truth! I did get my paycheck for the time I was there yesterday so I can deposit that tomorrow before I leave! :D
-
And get this...I can't get into the unemployment site to report my hours for this week's unemployment check because they are doing maintenance until 4:00 p.m. this afternoon but yet they expect people to do report on Sunday. What's wrong with this picture?
-
Safe and fun travel vibes to DR JULIE40C and her sister....look out, New York!! :)
-
From Tomovoz:
I shall as last year, endeavour to copy all of the Derek related posts and send them to his sister in Hobart.
Such a lovely thought, knowing you do this. It was also you who brought Dear Derek into our lives, making them richer for having known him.
-
Continued congrats to DR JANE on her 18.000+ post!
Yes, DR TOMovOZ...pet vibes from me as well. I do not plan to get another doggie now that Miss Blue Moon is gone. I have a bird - in a cage - but it is just too difficult to let go....and sooner or later we have to let go....
It isn't practical to see the end from the beginning....but sometimes it's hard not to.
-
Off to PCPH for the auditions for TIOBE and SIR set building.
Yesterday I heard some new words from those auditioning including:
Mash - i - nations
and
Aris-toe-crassy.

DR JOSE what does your blue wristband mean? All access?
-
Good Afternoon!
Well, I'm still waiting. My flight is not delayed, I'm just still waiting. But I shall be boarding in about 20 minutes. I hope. -Unless they do start looking for volunteers... Hmm...
-
Why is that black country dancer wearing lip gloss?
Speculations are endless.
-
And it appears the group of 50 high school students that walked by me toward my gate a few minutes, are now walking back into the terminal. Apparently, the teacher wrote down the wrong gate number.
Whew!
;)
-
Why is that black country dancer wearing lip gloss?
I don't know why. But at least he didn't get any on me.
-
DR JOSE what does your blue wristband mean? All access?
That is my "official" www.disneyauditions.com wristband. ;)
*My "Cruise Key" was my All Access Pass for the cruise.
-
Why is that black country dancer wearing lip gloss?
Answer #2:
I don't know why, but it tasted fine to me.
-
DR JRand - Here's a very recently taken close-up for you. ;)
-
Well, I'm going to mosey over to the gate for boarding...
Thanks again for all the Travel Vibes.

Safe and fun travel vibes to DR JULIE40C and her sister....look out, New York!! :)
Sis says New York will never be the same and that New York hasn't seen anything yet until we get there! ;D

Sis says New York will never be the same and that New York hasn't seen anything yet until we get there! ;D
I don't know about that. We New Yorkers have seen it all.
-
This looks so frightening I'm tempted to buy it on eBay.
-
I don't know about that. We New Yorkers have seen it all.
I don't know...my sister and I are pretty wild and crazy gals! ;)
-
Back from a two-mile jog - really difficult today, but I survived.
-
I'm now going to do a quick errand after which I shall return and eat some tuna pasta salad.
-
Welcome ten GUESTS.

DR TOMovOZ said yesterday that the opera version of THE FLY opened in France....wonder how things went....do you think THE FLY has legs?
From what I've read, "The Fly", the musical, should look to the finale of the original film's finale and should start screaming, "Sombody help me....PLEA-SE-SE-SE-SE!"

[shadow=color,glow width,#characters wide]Happy Birthday to Miss Karen![/shadow]
I hope you find life getting better & better as the years go by.
-
Congratulations on your milestone, DR Jane!

Since my birthday greeting to Miss Karen started
[shadow=color,glow width,#characters wide] Page 6[/shadow][/glow]
the number 6 will be lucky for her all day!
-
(Hopefully I made the type large enough so Miss Karen could read it more easily!)
:D
-
Thank you.
-
It's "cold" in Oakland, today. I'm not complaining, mind you. I'm just sayin'....
-
I know the large print was easier for me to read, and I truly appreciate the fact the words were standing still and not roaming across the page.
-
It is only 68 degrees here.
-
Thank you.
Je vous en prie!
-
I know the large print was easier for me to read, and I truly appreciate the fact the words were standing still and not roaming across the page.
A-hah! You suffer from moving-typophobia, eh!
;)
-
It's only suppose to get up to 81 degrees today so should be a nice outside concert. It's 73.5 now and the concert isn't until 7:30 p.m.
-
I'll try to remember that it bothers you in future. Meantime, my only reason for not moving it left, right, up and down was that I was afraid it might trigger a reaction of some sort that would make all Miss Karen's intimates believe she was pixillated. And wouldn't that be 'unseemly' on her birthday?!!?
-
Geez....and I shudder to think what might happen to DR stormcrow if he should have a reaction to it! Poor Jayson!! ;D
-
Mind you, it would be great for the numbers here! ;)
-
I need to find something wonderful to watch today on my plasma HDTV. Something thrilling and fun.
And I need to prepare something wonderful to eat. Something not too heavy, but something tasty and pleasing to my palate.
-
Now that I've made two unusual Sunday appearances on the forum -- and frenzied a wee bit -- I am off to find my happiness.
-
A-hah! You suffer from moving-typophobia, eh!
;)
;D That and motion sickness.
-
DR Tomovoz. We have cousins visiting from England next month. Do you think they would enjoy See's Candy? She said she wants to sample our traditional foods. Since we won't be serving hot dogs or hamburger's I thought See's should at least be experienced even though I feared I tortured you and DP Colin with it. ;)

DR JulieC40-SAFE AND EASY TRAVEL VIBES!!!

Thanks so much! That's what we are going to try to do but we may be too excited. We'll see.

I spent an hour writing a new lyric to a new tune for the one song in Nudie Musical that's still bugging me - it's Eunice, the script girl's song - she had one in the movie that we cut (it's in the special features), which I never really cared for. I originally wrote a new lyric for that tune, but it still didn't work for me. Then I wrote several new tunes, and finally found one I thought okay and wrote a whole new lyric, the ideas of which were fine. But it still didn't seem to do the trick, so now I'm on to another and hopefully this one will stick.
-
Now I'm eating tuna pasta salad and being lazy.
-
One of the few things I despise about doing community theater - strike after you've done your last show and are completely exhausted.
I've done a few shows where we ended with a matinee. Striking after a matinee is definitely a lot easier than after a show that ends at 10:30 pm. There were a couple of shows (only a couple) where we didn't have to strike until the next day. I don't know if that actually was better. ;)
-
Travel vibes to DR JulieC40 and sis!
(I'm posting these now, because we have thunderstorms on the way and I might have to disconnect pretty soon)
-
I am sorry that I wasn't here yesterday for the tributes to the wonderful DR and DM Ozderek. He was a wonderful guy, who left us far too soon.
-
I just watched the first episode of "Mad Men," in AMC's season one marathon. So far...it's just not grabbing me. :-\ I'll watch the second episode and see how I feel about it after that.
-
And a very Happy Birthday to that wacky noodle herself,

The second night of the cruise is their "Pirates IN the Caribbean Night". Kids dress up. Parents dress up. The Staff dresses up. I did not dress up - although, they do provide everyone with a Pirates' Bandana at dinner. They finish off the evening with a HUGE on-deck dance party complete with a HUGE food buffet and a fireworks! -DCL is the only cruise line that shoots their own fireworks off the boat!
Do other cruise lines shoot off someone else's fireworks off the boat?
-
Karen - Great insight on creation vs. destruction
-
Ginny - That would be lovely if you can go on the 28th. The whole line-up is looking very promising and i think the tix are only $18.
-
Yes, they do...

DR Matt H, I used to watch THE TRANSFORMERS with Bryan & Craig. It was fun reading your posts.
Thank you, DR Jane. I'm sure the audience for these cartoons will LOVE them. I'm giving this 7-disc set plus an earlier TRANSFORMERS "movie" (3 TV episodes combined into a 60 minute movie) to best friend John's 8-going-on-9 year old. He's the PERFECT age for them, and I know he'll have a blast watching them.
(When I reviewed five sets of POWER RANGER DVDs last year, I gave them to him, and John said you couldn't pull him from the TV.)
-
I began my afternoon by watching the second half of MONK that didn't get recorded by the DVR the other night. Did fine this morning when it was rerun, and I enjoyed the episode more than I expected to even if there were some ridiculous plot missteps.
How did Monk not freak out having to drag himself through all that plaster dust and dirt when he has to use a wipe anytime his hands touch anything?
Monk was once a real police detective. Why didn't he drag himself into the room and disarm the man (Brad Garrett) who was going to shoot them once he had knocked him out (particularly since it was clear they weren't getting out of the house any time soon)?
Just dumb!
-
Getting ready to leave for concert so we can grab a bite to eat! WBBL!
-
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MS KAREN!!!!!!!!!!
-
I watched about 15 more minutes of FEAR ITSELF, and it's a frustrating story jumping back and forth in time as it's doing. I'll finish it at some point since I have so little left to go, but despite a good scare or two so far, it's not among the better episodes.
-
It is currently 187 degrees in my back yard
I though I had wokened up at Dearreaders' Laura's house
-
wokened?
-
awakened? woke?
-
It's bad enough I could never type, now it;'s so hot I cannot speak English
-
Then, I watched Akira Kurosawa's HIGH AND LOW. I'd never seen it before.
In a word, masterpiece. A 143-minute crime drama-procedural that's so riveting I lost all track of time, and it was over before I knew it.
And the transfer is just superb. With lots of tight knit lines that on lesser encodes would be aliasing all over the place, there wasn't a second of line twitter.
Why can't all movies be this good?
-
which is a shame really as I am monolingual... apparently soon I will be down to no languages
-
of sourse some people may be very grateful that I will be unable to communicate....
-
the people who live with me for instance
-
youse guyz
-
Then, I started on the audio commentary and got thirty minutes of it heard. It's an expert track as well offering analysis of the camera techniques, background on the principal actors and their past and future work in Kurosawa films, background on the novel Kurosawa used to concoct the first hour of the movie, and so much more.
This is one GREAT set.
-
When I go back down and get my cleaning chores done, I'll start on the second disc in the set. Can't wait to see what other goodies Criterion has packed into this release.
-
I just realized something.. this year on my birthday I will be attending my neices's wedding in Saskatoon
It just hit me how very much I look forward to receieing those birthday greetings and felt a real pang knowing I will be unable to be here on my birthday!
-
From what I've read, "The Fly", the musical, should look to the finale of the original film's finale and should start screaming, "Sombody help me....PLEA-SE-SE-SE-SE!"
I thought THE FLY was an opera?

Yeah? Well it's 187 here with 200% humidity ;)
Well, between you and vixmom, and coughsyrup; I guess I won't complain.
-
Hot 'n' humid here in SW Ohio, too, and gloomy, like it's gonna rain. Which, I have a feeling, won't cool things off at all - just ruin the big finale to the hot air balloon festival that's been going on all weekend.
-
Yeah? Well it's 187 here with 200% humidity ;)
OHyeah? oH YEAH! welllllll it's 315% humidity here

We had a thunderstorm last night about 7:00 PM with high winds, quarter sized hail and torrential rains. I wasn't planning to go to Sideshow because I was still transcribing a witness interview off a DVD, but I was really glad I didn't go after the storm hit. There were limbs down, some trees down and I was very happy to be at home working away
-
Today is the beginning of the Register's Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa. It started between here and Omaha. There have been severe thunderstorms today between here and Omaha. Hope the thousands of bike riders have found shelter.
-
I'm watching the Animal Planet dog championships.
-
The cats are napping so they don't know

Zach actually watches the television with us when the programs contain AOI. [Animals Of Interest] :)

DR Ben did not share any details of the clan gathering yesterday in NJ.
I wonder if it was a much fun as DR JoseSPiano with the cowboys?
-
I just watched the first episode of "Mad Men," in AMC's season one marathon. So far...it's just not grabbing me. :-\ I'll watch the second episode and see how I feel about it after that.
We watched the first three episodes and returned the second disc to NetFlix without watching it.

I have decided to stop watching "Mad Men." For those of you who love it, that's great! I'm happy for you! But I'm just not interested in it, any more.
-
DR Jane - out British cousins eat more sweets (candy) that Australians do. American candy is however VERY sweet!
The British are more used to "Cadbury" (The less sweet Australian version!) and the smoothness of Belgian chocolate).
BUT it is still an interesting experience!
-
We watched the first three episodes and returned the second disc to NetFlix without watching it.
A shame that you never got to the truly interesting revelations about the real identity of Don Draper and who the person calling himself Don Draper really was/is. I think it was episode five where his real-life brother made an appearance. I was in tears by the end of the episode, my favorite one during the entire first season.
-
I'm finished writing now and will head back down, first to clean my bathroom and then head back into the den to see what disc two of HIGH AND LOW has to offer.
WBBL.
-
"The Fly" is indeed an OPERA.
Of course the HELP lines would have been quite appropriate in TV's "Hercules" too. Twenty minutes was more than enough!

How very pleasing to see a post from DR TCB (Not that I bothered to read it but it gave me something to ignore).

But first, I need to take a shower, get dressed, get something to eat and then...who knows what'll happen.
;)

So...until later!

DR Jane - Pumpkin Pie!
(the English rarely eat pumpkin!)

Habits to make you cry. We have just been having breakfast. Colin cut the crust off his toast - MAGNUS!

What day shall we celebrate on?
Isn't this the wedding that motivated you to get in shape?

BUT it is still an interesting experience!
;D The difference is, you read about See's Candy on a semi-regular bases. They have probably never heard of it. I might get some anyway.

Why can't all movies be this good?
Glad to see someone finally catching up with the movie I've probably written about more than any other on this here site, simply because I watch it at least three times a year. I've proclaimed this Kurosawa's best film and a masterpiece since the day I first saw it, sometime back in the mid-70s.
The various DVD incarnations are fascinating - Criterion's original DVD was misframed at about 2:1. Then I got the official Japanese DVD (without subtitles) which was obviously a much better transfer, but at a 2:55 ratio, which, for 1962 isn't really correct. Then I got an Australian DVD which is almost as thin as Ben-Hur - now there is more information on the sides of those transfers, but it's miniscule - and I think this new Criterion is probably correct at 2:35, which is what theaters showed scope in in the 60s. The Australian DVD was the only one to have the Perspecta stereo track, but I'm happy to say the Criterion does as well. I'll be getting it first thing Tuesday.
-
Tomovoz, Thank you for the suggestion. I'm not sure I can find fresh pumpkin in August. I also prefer meringue pumpkin pie to the traditional heavy style.
-
Make it from canned pumpkin, Jane, so they see how Americans eat pumpkin pie.
-
And the word of the day is: ASPERSE!
I do not suffer from any form of PARESES, and demand that you not ASPERSE my reputation in such a manner!
(Sure works better than a sentence using the anagram SERAPE.)

Quote from: Ron Pulliam on Today at 01:39:37am
Past my bedtime it is. Tonight, I watched Merian C. Cooper's "The Last Days of Pompeii", an interesting film from 1935 filled with great scenery, some incredible spectacle for its time, and a volcanic eruption finale that destroys Pompeii. Oops! I hope I didn't give away too much about what happens.
Not a problem for me...I watched the episode of "Doctor Who" where they went back in time to Pompeii when the volcano blew.
;)
Those of us who are Whovians know the truth of what happened!

I have spent fourteen hours over the last couple of days wrangling carts. That's fourteen hours more out in the sun than I usually spend in an entire month. And it has been very very very humid and very very very hot. (That's a total of six verys. Or is that supposed to be veries? I'm having trouble with my plurals.)
I am red.
I am tired.
I am achey.
And, to top everything off, when I took my shoes yesterday, I discovered that I'd somehow developed a blister on the top of my left foot. About a square inch of skin just kind of peeled off and I looked down at it and said to myself "how the heck did that happ....YEOUCHHHHH!!!!!"
:P
I am looking forward to staying indoors and scorekeeping tomorrow.
-
Congrats to der B on his lofty plateau
And he comes off in person as so quiet and shy.
::)

DR TOMovOZ said yesterday that the opera version of THE FLY opened in France....wonder how things went....do you think THE FLY has legs?
Or did the critics pluck them off?
-
I will also be getting the HIGH AND LOW DVD this time around. I saw the movie several years ago and loved it....and it is about time I see it again.
-
I really do wish that Criterion would redo CHUSHINGURA. It is a wonderful movie but their DVD release of it is terrible.
-
I got quite a lot done this morning and early afternoon. Then I ate some lunch. And then I lay down on my bed. Then 2 hours later I woke up. Then I realized that I missed JMK's Bosa Nova band at the Salem Art Fair.
Sorry JMK....I had meant to go and see that show :-\
-
I have been awake for only 15 minutes and I already feel like taking another nap!
I got up way too early today...I should have slept in.

Welcome back home DR Jose.
You sure do get around!
-
My flight ended up leaving about 40 minutes late, and we got in 30 minutes late, so... It was an interesting flight with one little "annoyance" kicking the back of my chair for the first 15 minutes of the flight. Thankfully, a parental unit stepped in after I - and the person next to me - had turned around a couple of times and given him a couple of "looks". ;)
-
Why is that black country dancer wearing lip gloss?
It's Vasoline.
You had to ask. ::)

Hmm.. It's only around 88 degrees now, and it doesn't feel that hot outside. -Although, I had been hearing the reports of the HEAT over the past couple of days.

And now I need to head back up, and join my friend Harry and William for dinner, so...

Finished watching a little movie I'd TIVOd. And now I shall get ready to go to a screening.

The farewell party for Charlie was quite wonderful. It was great to see my old friend Jeff Stock, who composed the wonderful TRIUMPH OF LOVE, and several folk I had not seen in some time. Charlie's moving to Alabama on Wednesday and on Friday, en route, he and his traveling companions are having lunch with mutual friends from The Library of Congress, and I need to make a trip down there. I may see if I can get a hotel room Thursday night and book the tickets t DC for Thursday.
Great chocolate cake was served. I think it's a hard commodity to find in Manhattan.
Welcome back, DR Jose!

File this in the "How Hollywood Thinks" file...
500-000 Pounds?-Mr-Spielberg- Sorry-Ive-got-date-Beeb- says-new-Dr-Who-writer (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1036567/500-000-Mr-Spielberg-Sorry-Ive-got-date-Beeb-says-new-Dr-Who-writer.html)
A couple of quotes...
The new man in charge of Doctor Who turned down a £500,000 movie deal with Steven Spielberg so he could take the job.
Bafta-winning scriptwriter Steven Moffat has quit a two-picture deal with the director and Lord Of The Rings film-maker Peter Jackson to fulfil a 'childhood dream' of working on the BBC sci-fi drama.
Moffat, who created hit BBC comedy series Coupling, had signed a £1million contract to write the first two scripts for Tintin, a £150million Spielberg trilogy based on the comic-strip hero.
But instead the Scottish writer will take over as the creative force of Doctor Who after Welsh writer Russell T. Davies, who revived the series in 2005, decided to step down.
And, later...
One Hollywood insider said: 'No one walks away from Spielberg and all that money for a show no one has heard of. I mean, what is this doctor show about? It sounds a little silly.'
Now, let's see...
The Hollywood insider hasn't heard of Doctor Who, which has been around for almost forever in one form or another, and in it's current form is one of the biggest hits on the BBC, getting ratings of something like forty-six and a half percent of the audience, which here in America is something American Idol has trouble achieving.
How much does anyone want to bet the exact same Hollywood insider has never heard of Tintin, either, except as some project that Spielberg is interested in? (And Tintin has been around longer than the Doctor!)
In fact, let's conduct a little poll. Some honesty here, please:
Who out there has heard of Doctor Who, prior to reading this post?
Who out there has heard of Tintin, same criterea?
And who do you love more, Snowy or K9?
-
Obviously, I've heard of Doctor Who. Big fan.
And I've heard of Tintin. Hooray for Captain Haddock!
As for the dogs, I kind of lean to K9. Snowy may save Tintin's butt from time to time, but K9 has saved the universe!
-
There will be fish on the plate tonight. Flounder, to be pankoed and fried. Zucchini and crookneck squash, dittoish. And something pasta-ish that won't be fried. Just for a change of pace.
To be followed by a new episode of Iron Chef America.
-
I think there's a recipe on every can of Libby's pumpkin puree. That's what my mother used.
I cannot stand pumpkin pie any more, now that she's gone.
Is that because her's was your favorite, or that you miss having pumpkin pie with your mother?
Keith said pecan pie is very American. I have a good recipe from a friend for that.
-

Hers was my favorite. Every time I've tried it since, it hasn't tasted right. It's like she got the custard better, tighter or something.

We had a wonderful day in New Jersey. It was a long one. We didn't get back to Manhattan until 11pm. We went out early to spend time with Mike and Jennie (Anthony's cousins) while no one else was there (we're special). We got a tour of the new house and got a special pre-meal of grilled salmon, cous cous and pea pods. Yummm! It was very, very, very hot (at least for me) but I still spent a good portion of it outdoors. I just ran into the blissfully air-conditioned coolness of the kitchen whenever I could find a reason. We had a bbq with the traditional stuff, hot dogs, burgers, grilled veggies, potato chips, potato salad, and more (way too much food). There was a large contingent of Morelli cousins including the Chicago cousin who was in visiting. She's the one Anthony will visit on his trip to Wisconsin. They got to discuss their plans and are very excited to be able to spend time together in the Windy City (Friday night and all of Saturday). We took NJ Transit to M & J's but we were driven back into the city by other cousins who live in Manhattan as well. They have a child and had come out to NJ later so we didn't ride with them (besides we couldn't have had our special time if we had come with them). We go a little discombobulated on the New Jersey Turnpike/Garden State Parkway but eventually found our way to Manhattan. We were dropped on 46th Street and 10th Avenue. We walked to the 8th Avenue subway and caught a train home. All in all it was a loverly day.
Miss Vixmom, I'm jealous of your pool! I would love to have access to a pool on days like this.
Well, it's back to work tomorrow. I will be indexing and preparing for a presentation to be given a week from Tuesday. It's something I've done before so it's just a matter of revisions and reviewing so I'm familiar with the material.
That's the news from here.
-
Is that because her's was your favorite, or that you miss having pumpkin pie with your mother?
Keith said pecan pie is very American. I have a good recipe from a friend for that.
My mother on her good days made the absolutely best pumpkin and pecan pies. On her lousy days, which were more common the crazier she got, everything she cooked was found in Dishes For Your Disposal. No one has yet equaled her way with pastry, but that doesn't stop me from looking around.

DR Ben, I just had the loveliest email from the secretary for Bill Bolcom and Joan Morris! Weren't you looking for some of their recordings?
-
Hers was my favorite. Every time I've tried it since, it hasn't tasted right. It's like she got the custard better, tighter or something.
Are you sure she didn't add a secret ingredient and forget to tell you? I'm guessing you never made it with her. There are a few recipes I wish I had made with my mother. I also wish she had not given her cookbook to my sister who lost it.

Yes, we are. The Civil War album Who Shall Rule This American Nation and Lime Jello: An American Cabaret.
-
DR elmore, did you get your mother's recipes? Any clue where the delicious chocolate cake was from.
One of the best chocolate cakes I ever had was in England at a little converted monastery, or something like that. I asked for the recipe and found it was a frozen cake they had delivered. :o
-
That's the news from here.
Very delightful news to read. :)
-
I will also be getting the HIGH AND LOW DVD this time around. I saw the movie several years ago and loved it....and it is about time I see it again.
Did I just read that BK and MBarnum liked the same movie?

File this in the "How Hollywood Thinks" file...

A couple of quotes...And, later...Now, let's see...

And who do you love more, Snowy or K9?
I don't even know what-the-Hell language you are speaking!

Me, cook with my mother? You've got to be kidding. Guys weren't supposed to cook - that would turn them homo! (Well, that was never said, but the implication was there.) I didn't start cooking until der B and I were together for quite some time.
Come to think of it, my sister never learned to cook from our mother, either. I don't remember even once having a dinner that my sister prepared. She was too busy becoming whatever was not the housewife.
So our mother's cooking secrets have been lost. That's what happens sometimes.
-
Michael Symon takes over as the chef on the season preview of Dinner: Impossible tonight. This is after Robert Irvine got discredited, for claiming a resume that was largely fictional.
We're going from an intense Brit to a giggly Clevelander. Such is life.
-
No, I really do have to get dinner on the table. I'll be back tomorrow.
-
Are you sure she didn't add a secret ingredient and forget to tell you? I'm guessing you never made it with her. There are a few recipes I wish I had made with my mother. I also wish she had not given her cookbook to my sister who lost it.
Looking back at it, my sister and I both agree that we let people move to fast emptying out our mom's house. I would have loved to have had all of her recipes, but they had gone to the estate sale before I even thought about it.
-
I'm with DR TCB - I had heard of Dr. Who before today, but only because of posts here. And had not heard of Tintin or whateer/whoever that is before today.
Call me clewless.
-
That's too bad about your mother's recipes, DR TCB. :(
-
We watched the first episode of Mad Men and liked it very much.
-
I shall now be on my way to a screening.
-
DR elmore, did you get your mother's recipes? Any clue where the delicious chocolate cake was from.
One of the best chocolate cakes I ever had was in England at a little converted monastery, or something like that. I asked for the recipe and found it was a frozen cake they had delivered. :o
The cake was baked by the hostess.
-
DR elmore, it is always a compliment to ask for a recipe. ;)
DR TCB, I'm sorry you didn't have the time to go through your mother's belongings properly. It is an exhausting task and I'm sure you and your sister were in shock.
-
LAW & ORDER: CI tonight is both rather funny and very macabre. I love shows about magicians and magic and this one's a lot of fun.
-
DR elmore, it is always a compliment to ask for a recipe. ;)

We were very grateful to the people who stepped up and offered to clear out the house for us after we had taken the things we wanted; but we should have waited another week or two.
-
Even with all the time I had I think I left behind a few things I shouldn't have. Some of them might have been left at my brother's.
The upsetting part was all we couldn't find that my sister moved out and we never saw again. Her daughter didn't find them either, or missed the items as she cleaned out her mother's home three months later.
-
Good Evening!
I'm back from a wonderful dinner with my friend, Harry, and his partner, William. It was a nice catch up session, and the spaghetti and meat sauce that Harry prepared was quite tasty too! I also had to deliver a couple of Disney Trading Pins that Stitch had given to me to pass on to Harry. ;)
-
And, yes, it's hot outside right now, but there's a nice breeze blowing. However, inside the subway stations, it feels like a sauna. Oy!
-
I'm going to make another attempt to stay off the computer all week. I need to clean out cupboard & shelves & get some paperwork done. I'm very bad, once I begin playing with the computer I don't get much work done.
I will of course respond to emails. :)
-
DR SWW - As for your "poll"...
I've heard of "Dr. Who" - and used to watch him/it quite regularly when I was younger, but lost interest in it/him over the years.
As for "Rintin" - ???
Thus, I cannot answer your last question.
Now...
Are you saying that "Dr. Who" gets better ratings here in the U.S. than "American Idol" does? Even without checking numbers, I seriously doubt that. -Or is that audience share you mentioned what the show garners in the UK?
-
I wasn't a happy camper on the flight, and I know what you mean about the theater.
I fortunately have one perfume I'm not allergic to, and it helps to counter other smells. I spray it on my wrist & then hold my wrist up to my face. I may look silly but it works.
Well i can't/don't ever wear any perfume. But i have a similar problem with hand lotions. And today i was doing exactly what you did. There are a few smells that agree with me (vanilla, banana...) so i had put some on my hand and held that up to my face!
Oh and i obviously have extremely bad luck. Because the family member who reaked yesterday still reaked today. Luckily they were nice enough to wash off thoroughly (although only after i couldn't eat or be in the same room with anybody else).
But the really bad luck is that i must be extremely sensitive right now to smells. And my whole family went out to celebrate my uncle's birthday. Well my aunt has a friend who is always late. And when she finally showed up she sat down beside me, and guess what? She had on a perfume and my eyes started watering an my throat was feeling slightly swollen.
I didn't really know what to do. I mean i know this lady. But i didn't want to be rude or make her feel bad. I told my sister and she asked her husband to switch seats with me (and sort of made it seem like my niece wanted to sit with her daddy). Oh well. I knew if i stayed in that seat i would be miserable.
So at least i was able to do it low key! :)
Oy!
-
I felt so bad. My niece fell asleep at the restaurant. And when she got home she was so upset that she had left that she started crying hysterically.
:(
-
And now I need to head back up, and join my friend Harry and William for dinner, so...
Laters...
You're friends with the Windors??? ;D
-
As for "Mad Men'... Does John Hamm not take his shirt off until the fourth or fifth episode? ;)
-
You're friends with the Windors??? ;D
The Windsors of Washington Heights.

DR Jennifer, I know how embarrassing it can be. It is difficult to be polite when your head begins pounding & your throat tightens up. My throat is ok, unless I have a reaction to food, but sometimes I wheeze. My head bothers me the most & can make me very irritable. Sometimes my motion sickness also puts me in embarrassing situations.
We are having a very bad allergy season here, if you are also it can be making you more sensitive. I'm glad you were able to maneuver this situation a bit better.
-
Oh and i was off my diet today. And boy the food at the restaurant was so good.
We had tortilla chips and spinach/cheese dip. And the rolls with butter were so good. ANd i had bbq babyback ribs and coleslaw and french fries. And a few bites of chocolate brownies with ice cream and choc/caramel sauce. So delicious!
Of course whenever i eat at this restaurant i can never even eat a quarter of my plate. So i guess i will be off my diet for tomorrow's lunch too! :)

'night

Next Design Star was really fun. Jen came to redo a room for her sister in Sioux City!! The guy I met in Panera, Bill, was her carpenter. It was really a fun episode. I won't tell what happened
-
Bill was a character. He reminds me of my lawn guy, Jerry. Wonder if they are brothers

I don't usually have this problem. It just felt like bad luck since i was so sick yesterday.
The weird thing is i've been at many dinners with my aunt's friend. I guess i just never sat beside her before!
Maybe i should have said something to her. I just didn't want to make her feel bad.
The funny part was my brother-in=law wanted me to explain to her why we were switching seats. But i thought that would defeat the purpose.
Well i didn't get sit next my niece while eating. But at least i did not die at the table! :)
I thought my allergic reaction had improved. I never used to even be able to walk thru a department store's perfume section. But now i can do that!
I think maybe it was just that my eyes were still burning a bit from yesterday. So they were overly sensitive.
I told my sis, i actually don't think this woman's perfume was that strong. Not like my family members was.
-
A little weatherbug tells me we might get a storm tonight.
-
We have a severe thunderstorm watch until 4:00 AM. Oh joy.
-
Oh wow. I just looked at the radar. Looks like we really could get some storms.
-
Send it my way, Cillaliz!
-
DR George wrote:
I just watched the first episode of "Mad Men," in AMC's season one marathon. So far...it's just not grabbing me. I'll watch the second episode and see how I feel about it after that.
We watched the first three episodes and returned the second disc to NetFlix without watching it.
I watched the first show i did not like it either. I have recorded all the other episodes. I guess i will try to watch one or two more. But so far i am having the same reaction you guys are to it.
-

A severe thunderstorm?
-
I have heard of Doctor Who, but only by reading about it here.
And i have not heard of tintin.
I don't think it unusual at all that most people would not have heard of either one.
-
Well, I think I'm over the getting stressed out part of all this and have moved on to just being in the zone and doing it. I do have some research to do before I go to bed tonight, before our pretrial conference tomorrow and Tuesday....woo hoo. I'm glad the time is finally here.
-
Oh Cool!! Jennifer Bertrand watched the show tonight from the room she designed here in Sioux City.
-
Well... I've been up since 5:30, and I have that "I'm tired and should go to bed headache", so....
Goodnight.
-
Thanks for the wristband and Lip Gloss reports, DR JOSE.
-
Where do your English cousins live, DR JANE? Be sure to tell them that you know a cousin of the Earl of Derby.....
-
Auditions for TIOBE were all right, some useless people there, but they can dream can't they? Everyone was working like crazy on the SIR sets and drops.....interesting. And all of the costumes were being moved into the dressing rooms.
AMS is done finished over and THE END. In the men's dressing room I found on the makeup counter the card that I had written last night to the MOST TROUBLESOME of the TROUBLESOME actors. There it sat, opened but abandoned.... I looked at it a moment, then tore it up and threw it away.
The nearest B/N store is about 24 miles away. I hate to pay shipping with my gift card, but driving would cost me about the same. It is not on the way to anywhere I go. Do they have enough unadvertised bargains, that it would be worth a drive to the brick and mortar store?
-
We had severe thunder lightning and torrential rain for about 20 minutes around 6:45 p.m.
-
Time for me to take a quick break and then get my research done so I'll be ready for tomorrow.
Night
-
I am also a fan of HIGH AND LOW - I have the earlier Criterion release which I purchased after reading about the movie here at HHW.....like so many others I have been informed about by the denizens of the MPSOTI.
I like to watch it with THE BAD SLEEP WELL.......
-
BK, you may be disappointed in the framing for HIGH AND LOW. It looks wider than 2:1, but some of those compositions looked very tight with folks on the extreme ends sometimes having a bit of their bodies out of frame. The main titles are windowboxed.
The box says 2.35:1 but that's not always accurate.
-
I am learning my lines for tomorrow DR CILLA LIZ....and it just started raining here again. No thunder/lightning, but a nice downpour of water.
-
I watched all of the bonus features on HIGH AND LOW when I went back down. There's a nice 37 minute documentary on the making of the film taken from a Toho series of features about Kurosawa's work. There are interviews with Mifune and the actor who played the kidnapper, and there are three trailers, one of which contains what was going to be the final shot in the film before it was deleted (wise move).

Well, the framing was off on THE EARTH DIES SCREAMING, too, but I have a feeling it is much less of a disappointment to its fans. 8)
-
Damn....now I HAVE to have the NEW DVD!
-
Next, I got a jump on the Blu-ray of THE SCORPION KING and watched the sDVD version of it tonight. Basically an action picture without a brain in its head, I had seen it before, but only once.
I believe the Blu-ray version has that In-Picture video commentary experience, so I can save myself from having to watch the movie twice tomorrow by watching it with that turned on from the beginning.
There are dozens of other bonus featurettes, too. I watched some of those tonight as well to save myself some time tomorrow.
-
BTW, THE SCORPION KING may be a cheesy movie, but that sDVD transfer is one of the best I've seen (and it's quite old; the film came out in 2002). Upconverted, it looks as close to HD as any sDVD I've watched in a long time.
-
I should have watched LAW & ORDER: CI, but I stupidly put in the Blu-ray of THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA and watched up to the point where Andi gets the HARRY POTTER books for Miranda's twins.
Well, I DO adore the movie, but I'm not quite sure what motivated me to put that in the player as opposed to watching L&O:CI or finishing FEAR ITSELF which I also didn't get to.
-
If for some reason THE SCORPION KING doesn't arrive tomorrow, my next review copy is Martin Scorsese's SHINE A LIGHT documentary on The Rolling Stones concert.
Not a Stones fan obviously, so this should be interesting.
-
With writing finished for the evening, I'm going to head downstairs now and go to bed.
Good night!
-
Looks like our storm fizzled out. :(
-
I've watched Dr Who from very early days - but I do not watch it as a "must". Last one viewed was the recent "Pompei" episode.
I prefer K9 to Snowy! I loved how K9 stayed behind with Ramada(?) in what dimension it was way back in the Tom Baker days.
Tintin is know to many English kids. It would be because my childhood neighbours were English migrants that I knew of Tintin. much the same would be true of Rupert the Bear!
DR (ex) François was and is a major fan of Tintin!
-
I still have my 45 rpm recording of the Dr Who Theme from circa 1964 on the Decca label.
-
Shoo-Fly pie is also a possibilty DR Jane
Scrapple! (or whatever the revolting stuff is called).
I did eat both in Lancaster County PA.
-
Of course higher ratings for a TV show in the UK are because there are FAR few channels from which to choose.
Nevertheless, Dr WHO is BIG.
(It does very well here in OZ too. Sunday night viewing on our National Broadcasting network (ABC rather than BBC)
-
Back from the screening, which was a lot of fun and which I'll talk about in the notes.
-
We watched the first episode of Mad Men and liked it very much.
I've been watching it...it's starting to grow on me. The flashbacks of Don when he's young are pretty interesting. I just wonder where it's heading.
-
I guess I'll write some notes. I'm kind of hungry but thankfully there's nothing whatsoever in the house.
-
Well, no one can say we didn't get to page twelve.

<SNIP>
Now, let's see...

I'd heard of Doctor Who when I was much younger, but never watched it until the "new" Doctor Who started with Christopher Eccleston. I've known about Tintin for a long time, but I've never been a fan. At the library where I work, we get just about every new edition.
So...K9, all the way!
;D

Okay, it's 11:25 p.m. here in the lovely Pacific Northwest. Got home about 10:30 p.m. from the Ringo Starr concert. It was amazing! That man is 68 years old but one would never know it. He looks fantastic! Since it was an outside concert there was a couple of obnoxious beer drinkers but they weren't as bad as at some concerts I've been too. Did have to wait in a really long line in the hot sun for about 45 minutes so that part wasn't fun but other than that it was worthwhile definitely!
Now, since I worked that one week for a temporary service and they cut me out of that job, I may have to week an extra week for the unemployment to kick in again...oy! I have to call tomorrow to find out about it before we leave for New York tomorrow night. Just something extra to have to worry about.
Then my teeth have been extra sensitive today and hurting. After eating, they were a little worse but then seemed to lessen. After concert came home, were really aching on the bottom left then realized it might have been the light ice cream I just ate (dummy me)! *Ha!*
Anyhow please think positive vibes or pray or whatever everybody does that my teeth don't bother me while in New York. Will check in tomorrow before I leave. Flight isn't until 11:59 p.m. Will be sleeping on the plan if we're not too excited! Just checking in. Night, all! :)
