Well, you've read the notes, the notes were straight and flew on schedule and on time, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're still trying to figure out where Long Beach is - there over at Short Beach right now.

And the word of the day is: PARAPRAXIS!

And I shall now to bed.

First post after BK. :)
What am I doing up at this hour?

Diet-friendly foodstuffs. Is lean-ish beef diet-friendly, I wonder.

Good morning, all! The alarm went off at 5 am and woke me up from a dream in which Jason Graae had come to visit and was messing up my apartment and I was tagging after him puttinh things back in their proper places. At least it was better than the dream earlier around midnight in which my brother was dressed as Santa Claus and carrying an axe!
I'm all packed for DC, and I'm hoping the trains are truly back on schedule.
I've begun an interesting book called FORTISSIMO, by a New Yorker who spent a year observing the young artists of the Chicago Lyric Opera. I'm enjoying it.
I have little else to report except that I cannot wait to get on the train and nap.
I'm sorry to hear of your plsne complications, BK, I hope everything is clear sailing. Am I mixing metaphors?

Bruce, if you're not in NYC until 10pm you may miss most of the rain but you may also be delayed on your flight. It's raining right now and it's supposed to rain all day. It's not scheduled to be a pretty weekend.

I'm doing the laundry today after work since we're heading out to Long Island tomorrow for one last round of Getting Anthony Ready for Wisconsin. I just hope the clothes stay dry after the dryer!

Is anybody here still watching SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE?
I love this show.
My favorites are will and katee. And i also like joshua and twitch. And chelsie.
Do not care for comfort. And to me her and mark should go. I also don't care for courtney. And will be interested to see whether she or chelsie are in the B2 for girls.I would imagine it would be joshua and mark for the guys.
Last night's favorite routine for me was mia michaels' door routine (katee/twitch). To me katee is exceptional no matter who she is with!

DR RonP (and DR MBarnum), i'm not sure if you saw my BB post yesterday.
But i'm curious who you guys like and dislike.

What did you think about who won HOH? Very curious to see who they will put up. I have NO IDEA!
-
DR Singdaw, the crawdads were the guests of honor at dinner last night.
-
When I was a kid, I was a big fan of Abbott and Costello.
And, I'm still a fan...except that now I laugh more at their timeless verbal routines [e.g. "Who's On First," "Slowly I Turned...", etc.] than I do with their slapstick.
I also recall liking several of Bob Hope's comedies that were made back in the 1950s [e.g. THE PALEFACE, HERE COME THE GIRLS, CASANOVA'S BIG NIGHT].
But, I think that the funniest "slapstick" comedy ever made has got to be THE COURT JESTER with Danny Kaye.

I must sheepishly confess that I laughed a lot at PORKY'S. But that was many many years ago, :)
-
Good morning!
That last storm last night cooled things off, but I didn't realize it until I got up VERY early this morning (6:45) and opened everything up after fetching the newspaper. Still have the A/C off and the attic fan pulling fresh air through the house. This is just bliss and such a relief from the abysmal weather we've been suffering through the last couple of weeks.
-
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And...

Good travel wishes to all who are traveling today. Hope all goes smoothly.

After cleaning the bedrooms this morning, I found I had the time to finish watching all the bonus features for THE HILLS. Was glad to have that entire set behind me.
Today I'll be ready to take a go at THE SCORPION KING on Blu-ray.
-
I hope DR elmore is already on his merry way down to DC via Amtrak sans delays.
~~~~~ ~~~~~ ~~~~~ ~~~~~ ~~~~~
*Although, I suspect that if DR elmore's train had been delayed this morning, I probably would have heard his kvetching all the way up here in Harlem. ;)
-
I never got around to skimming through yesterday's AS THE WORLD TURNS, so I know that's on the DVR. So is last night's PROJECT RUNWAY which maybe I'll get to at some point today.
I noticed THE SCORPION KING has not ported over many of the bonus features from its Collector's Edition, so there won't be much more to watch once I see the U-Control supplements which play along with the movie.
*And I may stop in to Joe Allen to at least say, "Hi!" tonight.
-
On TV tonight:
MY LIFE ON THE D-LIST
BURN NOTICE
a reminder: FLASHPOINT has moved to Thursdays on CBS
FEAR ITSELF.
-
I did finally finish last week's FEAR ITSELF episode, and it was the worst the series has broadcast since it started last month. A really poorly written and badly acted story. (The lead girl was the female star of STEP UP 2 THE STREETS that I reviewed a couple of weeks ago.)
-
Travel vibes for MR BK.....whenever he finally gets to go.
-
Hmmm... They just announced/confirmed average delays of 90 minutes at most of the NYC area airports. They didn't specify whether that was for arrivals or departures or both. However, now that the heavier rains have moved out, weather-related delays should "catch up" throughout the day.
*And it looks like tomorrow and Saturday will be quasi-good meteorologically speaking.
DR SINGDAW, I may have been remiss in stating my role in the current Indiana revival of that great great stage hit, Singin' In the Rain.
I am playing Roscoe Dexter, the director of silent films.....and talkies.... It is a very fun part, and his funniest scene in the movie is placed almost word for word into the stage play...."What's that noise?" "The microphone's picking up her heartbeat." "Swell...that's just swell....CUT!"
Douglas Fowley played the part in the movie with King Donovan as Rod the publicity man - they put me in the final scene at the theatre and last night gave me one of Rod's lines....one that he says twice, so I get to say it! I told Ben, the guy playing Rod...."Well, that's show business."
The main problem I have is the people in the show who have NO idea what the show is about, and couldn't care less. They don't really have a character (or their lines/lyrics) so a lot of the show is flat right now.
Time will, of course, tell....as it always does. Lina is very funny. Our website is down, but I will post some pictures when I get them.
Oh...and Kathy is not a size 12 as she said......
-
I did make the first step last night in trying to get to know my fellow cast members....tee-najers and all. I asked a girl to help me with the finale steps...by the time we got to the end, most of the people in the cast had joined the group and introduced themselves and we were having a fine time. There are some very nice kids....albeit not musical giants....in the show. The girls are all very pretty....and the boys are trying very hard to do the dances....
-
Up a bit earlier this morning. The skeeter attacks started around 5:30 a.m. Lots of buzzing around my ears looking for cherce drilling sites.
Bit twice. Am totally over it.
-
Of course when we got to the finale, suddenly two other people decided to join us on the platform and I didn't have any room to do the dance anyway...those two just decided to randomly open and close their umbrellas and stick them anywhere they wanted.....
The choreographer took them off the platform, and the second time through was a bit better.
What did you think about who won HOH? Very curious to see who they will put up. I have NO IDEA!
I did see your post.
I don't have any big favorites. I don't hate any of 'em yet, which seems a bit odd given that a few of them have already drawn a huge line and decided, somewhat arbitrarily and with very suspect reasoning, which of the houseguests are on which side of the line.
I totally did not get the deal with everyone wanting Steven out. He was never a formal member of the Jerry-Brian-Dan-Ollie alliance. What is very odd is that Jerry, Ollie and Dan have escaped the taint of Brian, but Steven paid the ultimate price just for being friendly toward Brian. It's stupid to think Steven is a bigger threat than Dan, IMO....but I suspect a bit of it is due to his being gay. They can talk a big game (Dan is the only one who has been honest about his initial feelings toward Steven in that regard) and cook up reaons why Steven "HAD" to go, but one reason I am going to accept is that the guys, for the most part, were seriously afraid of being outplayed, outwitted and outlasted by a gay man.
That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.
If I had to say I favored any players right now, they would be Keesha, Angie and "Memphis" Bob. I still have no problems with Jessie other than that he's too narcissistic and he's easily misled by others, especially Michelle who still leads him around by his nose.
-
Oh, yeah!
My favorites to LEAVE the house next, in no particular order: Jerry and Libra.
-
Did Cherie do a big number on the baby grand?
Actually *Laurie* (who was Mae in my Reefer Madness musical) did! And it was totally unexpected. Unfortunately due to the set which determined the show, the piano is waaaaay out right at the lip of the stage and when she hoisted herself up on the piano we started rolling a bit, which frightened me. :)
-
Good morning, good day, how are you this beautiful day? I am up and trying to quickly de-groggify so I can joggify.
I like BCBS. It was one of the first - if not the first - spin-offs of Magnolia Bakery. -It was opened by one of the former owners/founder of Magnolia. Their cupcakes come in a variety of flavors, and they sell a lot of other baked goodies. *And their UWS location is just a few blocks away from Magnolia's UWS location, so if you wanted to do back-to-back taste test... ;)
*And they're just two blocks from Levain too. ;D
Last night, I went to bed early because we have a meeting at 9:30 this morning, BUT I didn't actually get to sleep until AFTER 2:15 AM! :P And then my cat crawls on top of me at 5:23 this morning and wakes me up and I couldn't get back to sleep. >:( Now, I'm finally about to take a shower get to work...on less than 3 hours sleep. I hate it when that happens.
Hello, everyone.
I am back home after a trip to Florida. Marvelous Matt was soooo pleased when I told him I'd leave so he could put in the new bathroom floor. He's very considerate of my needs, but it's just easier for us both when I'm not in his way. A visit to an old friend, now retired and living in Florida, was long overdue, so that worked out nicely.
-
I flew home on Tuesday and my flight was delayed. First we were told it was because of weather in DC, then because of weather in NY and flights being diverted. I got home safely and that's all I care about. But I will say that I've never seen so many FIERCE storms as we've had in the past couple months. Another nasty one last night and more trees splintered or completely down around my 'hood. Thankfully, my roof is finally fixed.
Re: BB 10
My favorites, personality wise: Angie, Dan, Jerry, Renny (what can I say, she makes me chuckle), Ollie (bit why he likes that skanky April is beyond me), Keesha.
Game play wise: Dan, Michelle.
I am expecting big things from Memphis, but have seen little of it so far.
I think Jessie has issues. His mom did say he was a tiny kid and was picked on a lot, and that would likely be the staring point of his problems. Hopefully, as he matures, he will be able to work on that. But for now...well, that explains a lot and I don't think he will get very far in the game with the chips he has on his massive shoulders.
I've never been big on slapstick comedy, but I must say that I LOVED MR HULOT'S HOLIDAY. I was 19 or 20 when I first saw it. Ditto THE TALL BLOND MAN WITH ONE BLACK SHOE. I also like British broad comedy more than the American version.
There are others, I'm sure, but they don't come to mind just now.
-
Thank you, Ginny! So nice to be missed. I'm glad to see you're now up and about a bit. Do you feel close now to fully recovered?
Thanks for asking, Jeanne. Yes, I've been given the green light by doctors treating both issues to resume normal activities. I'm going back to work on Monday and, as we discussed while you were away, my biggest challenge is footwear. My left foot is still pretty swollen.
TOD: I'm quite partial to "Holiday" and "Bringing Up Baby". I also rather love "My Man Godfrey", which is more social commentary than slapstick but it has its share.
I think "Sleeper" is a lot of fun, too, in addition to the oft-named (and beautifully cast in supporting roles) "What's Up, Doc?"
The sight of Woody Allen pretending to be an android and serving Dianne Keaton's guests is hysterical slapstick.
I skimmed through yesterday's AS THE WORLD TURNS. No Luke but the previews promised he'd be on today.
-
I skimmed through today's AS THE WORLD TURNS, and sure enough, Luke and Noah were on and talking about making love for the first time, Of course, the talk went nowhere with lame excuses about waiting, etc. These guys are SO different from the way I was when I was 18 involved with my first love. WAY DIFFFERENT!
-
I spent most of the afternoon watching THE SCORPION KING on Blu-ray. Since I had watched the movie again over the weekend, I immediately turned on the U-Control (picture-in-picture) feature, and, of course, I much prefer this way of doing commentaries for modern action movies as opposed to the voiceover type of commentary that seems more appropriate for more serious films.
In this, you get commentary from many peoduction personnel, behind the scenes footage, storyboards, but it's not constant. And the neat thing is that the movie was done in DTS-HD MA sound, but when the pop-up windows came on that had audio, the main channel sound would subside and the sound for the window would take over. Then, the full strength DTS-HD MA would come back when the pop-up was finished.
-
The movie, of course, is a shallow popcorn adventure film. Nothing wrong with that for 90 minutes of pure action and fun. Certainly something like RAIDERS combines the popcorn appeal with something a bit more challenging and in-depth in terms of action, stunts, and characterizations, but I spent 90 minutes in a lot worse ways than THE SCORPION KING.
-
I also had time to watch a WILL & GRACE episode. This was the one with Kristin Davis as Vince's close friend Nadine. Funny episode, one of the best. The B-story was Karen coming to work with Jack at Out-TV which was also filled with laughs.
One of the best episodes of Season 7.
When I go back down, I'll watch last night's PROJECT RUNWAY. Then, I'll have the rest of the evning to find fun things to watch on DVD until BURN NOTICE at 10 which I'll watch "live."
The reviews stay active for about a month and then they are archived. You can still access them but can no longer add comments, questions, remarks, etc.
Thank goodness there is a time limit on comments, etc. Tracking all the posts for a month seems like a lot of time & energy.
"Try"? There is no "try". "Do" or ... well, I refuse to consider the consequences.
So...you just run off to Florida. You leave us in the lurch...you don't write, you don't call.
Pardon me if I pout just a bit.
:)
;D
Ah, is this the Ron Pulliam version of BK's famous bitch-slap?
Actually, I left word with DR Singdaw, so that if anyone was concerned about something untoward, he could alleviate such fears. I guess I'm used to keeping a low profile.
So, my dear Ron, I'm BACK!!!
;)
-
WELCOME HOME DR JEANNE! :D
-
Yes, there is free wireless in the JetBlue terminal at Long Beach.
DR Jose is our very own where-to-go-in-NY, how-to-get-tickets-in-NY, where-to-eat-in-NY, where-to-eat-just-about-anywhere, how-to-cook-just-about-anything, and now, where-to-get-free-wireless expert!!
-
I wonder how DRs JulieC40 and PDXJane are enjoying the high life in the big city! :D
Actually, I left word with DR singdaw, so that if anyone was concerned about something untoward, he could alleviate such fears.
But DR Ron Pulliam waited to express any such fears until you had already returned! :-X
For what it's worth: I, too, am most happy to see the return of our dear DR Jeanne! :D
Oh! Ho! So you left word with HIM, huh?
Welcome back! You were missed, even if I didn't write it out in a post! Sometimes, folks don't like being 'tracked' so I try to be careful about asking.
Next time, an announcement would be nice.
AND glad that her new and improved home survived all the storms!
The recent talk about MSG, anchovies, etc. reminded me that I wanted to ask our resident cooks what they think of truffle salt. I have a friend that swears by it. Any thoughts?
-
DR Jeanne, how are things coming along with your house sale?
Sometimes, folks don't like being 'tracked'
Just ignore that beeping coming from your pocket.
-
WELCOME HOME DR JEANNE! :D
Thank you, Jane. I thought of all of you while relaaaxxxxing.
I thought of all of you while relaaaxxxxing.
It shouldn't take us too many minutes to undo THAT. ;)
-
But DR Ron Pulliam waited to express any such fears until you had already returned! :-X
:)
Methinks DR Ron did not fear any misfortunes on me, but rather was in a bit of a pouty mood? Or just wanted to tease me a bit, which is quite OK.
-
but rather was in a bit of a pouty mood?
I cannot imagine such a thing.
Oh no, I cannot.
Well, thank you, Ron. Admittedly, I'm used to independence and privacy. I really didn't expect anyone to miss me and thought that leaving word with Sing would cover it, especially since I've been so irregular lately, anyway. (there's a set-up for a joke.)
I'll keep this in mind in the future.
That's what youthinks, eh? Methinks you're correct, sorta...! :D
I'll keep it in mind that singdaw is the go-to guy when irregularity sets in!
This day WILL plod along.
-
I've been trying to budget-check an invoice for two hours. Nothing works. Nothing.
I've submitted it to a higher power for a look-see to determine what I "might" have overlooked. (Heaven forfend!).
-
DR Jeanne, how are things coming along with your house sale?
Due to storm damage I took it off the market. The roof is now repaired and Marvelous Matt has almost completed the interior repairs. We worked around my roofer, who does fine work but I never know when he'll show up. Clearly, we could only work around him for so long. He had said to me, "You ought to sell your house and move!" "Yes, Danny, but I can't relist until the damage has been repaired and you're Step #1."
I expect to relist in a couple weeks--and with a different agent.
-
I'll keep it in mind that singdaw is the go-to guy when irregularity sets in!
LOL.
Ron made a better joke than I was expecting.
-
Admittedly, I'm used to independence and privacy. I really didn't expect anyone to miss me
Of course you are missed. I did figure you were busy with your house and other things.
Gotta scoot, folks.
Of course you are missed. I did figure you were busy with your house and other things.
You were quite right, Jane. This was one round of renovation that wasn't planned.
Those are always the worst kinds. Good luck with a new agent.
I thought Austin Miller was the runner-up.
He was. Derek finished third.
What did I miss? Is there something good on TV tonight or are you viewing for pleasure?
You really OUGHT to see "Billy Elliot" one of these days! :D
I see FJL is still logged in, but he seems not to be present.
No one else seems to be present, either, not even Tomovoz.
It's a bit past TCB's time to check in and post, too.
That, or you have a doppelganger!
In fact, it may be your doppelganger who posted that last post of yours.
Aren't you still "away" for a while?
Or are you back?
Where have the people gone?
Seems like there's no one hangin' on.
Look through the window
The houses are empty
Hey, everybody's out of town
Seems like I'm the only one around.
All of the streets are bare
No traffic tie-ups anywhere
Don't have to wait for a seat at the movie
Hey, everybody's out of town
Seems like, I'm the only one around.
-
Everyone's moved out
From the ghetto
Lots of space
Empty apartments
No more pollution
Plenty of classrooms everyplace
And it looks like we're ready
To give it one more try
This time there'll be no alibi
I'm gonna send out a message to Noah
Hey! Better send some people down
Everyone on earth,
Is out of town
I did make the first step last night in trying to get to know my fellow cast members....tee-najers and all. I asked a girl to help me with the finale steps...by the time we got to the end, most of the people in the cast had joined the group and introduced themselves and we were having a fine time. There are some very nice kids....albeit not musical giants....in the show. The girls are all very pretty....and the boys are trying very hard to do the dances....
Well? Are any of the boys pretty?
Good evening. We got our jury seated this morning and did opening statements. We are through 1 1/2 witnesses. I read the online newspaper report and watched 2 of the news channels. None of them have what was said in court correct. It's just amazing how wrong they can me.
The TV coverage has once again convinced me of 2 things, I need to lose weight and I need a hair style that makes the back of my head look good.
-
Hi DR Cilla. Have you considered letting your hair grow longer? You can layer the front to frame your face.
-
I consider opening statements to be the weakest part of my trial skills, however today, I was very pleased with the way it went. That's a huge relief. We are slowly going through photo after photo after photo. It's a long tedius procedure, but it's the way it's done. I'm actually quite glad it's taking him this long to get through things because it means we won't get to any of the "big" witnesses until next week so I will have time over the weekend to prep for them.
-
DR Ginny, how are you feeling after your big day? :)
-
Thank you, Jose. I was salivating while reading your posts.
A lot of people do.
-
I consider opening statements to be the weakest part of my trial skills, however today, I was very pleased with the way it went.
-
Hi DR Cilla. Have you considered letting your hair grow longer? You can layer the front to frame your face.
It is longer than my photo. My hair is too thin, when it gets long it doesn't look good. I'm not real pleased with it right now, but it'll do for now
-
DR Jane - somewhere along the line, I caught the tip of my right index finger on something sharp and discovered the effects of taking blood thinners for a month :P
Skipped the stop at the grocery store and came on home for a band-aid.
I will survive.
-
I must say I love the craziness of being in trial, It means long days, followed by long nights of prep, no sleep and never knowing what is going to happen from moment to moment. What could be better.
And you probably need some of those 4" spike heels that Julianna Margulies wore in her short-lived courtroom drama ;)
Right, so I could fall off the heels and break my neck!
Time to unwind a little. I do have some work to do, but the witnesses tomorrow won't be to challenging
In about 11 hours DS Craig's girlfriend should be taking off from the airport in Bucharest and returning to him after their long separation. I think she has been gone for about 10 or 11 months now. Wow! No wonder she rushed back as soon as possible after getting her undergraduate degree.
Now if only he had a job so he can support them all.
I have a question. I can get my new every two on Verizonwireless and am thinking about upgrading to a phone that I can sync my calendar and can get email etc. SO, I'm wondering if anyone has a blackberry or a palm or something similar. Do you like it? What's the best way to go?
Yes, Ron was correct. I was late getting home from work today. I had kind of a health scare last night, so I stayed in bed this morning, and went into work late.
-
SO, I'm wondering if anyone has a blackberry or a palm or something similar. Do you like it? What's the best way to go?
DR Cillaliz - ask DR FJL. He got a new Blackberry not too long ago.
I have one, too. I started out using it for email. It works just fine, but it finally drove me crazy, so I don't do that anymore. However, it works fantastically as a wireless modem for my laptop.
If you're seriously considering it, I'd suggest a model that has a numeric keypad on the outside and a QWERTY keyboard on the inside. I've found the combined numeric/alpha all-in-one keyboard a bit cumbersome. That would be a non-Blackberry model.
And, if you get a phone running Windows Mobile, you can even use it to check in on HHW on the go. I think.
-
Yes, DR TCB are you okay?
-
DR Ginny - you are right to be very cautious! My father was on a blood thinner for years after a heart operation. It's nothing to take lightly! ***HEALING VIBES*** for your finger!
-
DR TCB - Hoping you are feeling better and that all is OK with you.
-
Keith thought his Palm Pilots were great. Problem was the phone service they went with wasn't. We now have good service but he HATES his Sidekick. If the penalty payout to cancel his phone weren't so big he would do so. As soon as the contract expires we will be a one cell phone family. We almost are anyway since he refuses to take his phone with him most of the time.
-
I liked the keyboard on the Sidekick. We were able to cancel the internet connection, saving some money. I wish we could keep that portion and cancel the phone service.
-
(((((TCB)))))
Thanks, DR TCB - are you OK?
Sure, I'm fine.
Thanks Cilla. I was looking for something when you posted.
DR Cilla, I almost forgot...your hair & head look fine from the back. :) I only wish I could understand what you were saying ;D
I absolutely love the courthouse we are in. Other than the acoustics, that is. It was built in 1919., It's the largest public building in the Prairie Style. It was designed by William Steele who came from the Sullivan firm where Frank Lloyd Wright was at one time, or something like that.
-
DR Cilla, I almost forgot...your hair & head look fine from the back. :) I only wish I could understand what you were saying ;D
The defense then gets their chance, saying that Williams was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
"Not wanting anything to do with it, Jeremy turns around to go up the steps and he hears, click, click, your not going anywhere," said Pricilla Forsyth, defense attorney.
The defense said that Williams feared for his life.
She says she is going to prove that Williams did not shoot the gun.
"He's not guilty, first degree murder, not guilty, first degree robbery, and not guilty of first degree kidnapping," said Forsyth
-
Well, that would liven up the news coverage...
Seriously, the floor in the courthouse is so slick I almost wiped out the other day. And today a tall male lawyer's feet went out from under him and he caught himself on the water fountain. I'm afraid to wear heels in that place!
-
Thanks. I haven't decided. I really don't mind my phone now, but it would be nice to be able to sync my calendar to outlook and check my email. If I go for any length of time I take my laptop, but I mostly need it for being in court and having someone ask my availability on such and such a date etc
-
Thanks for sharing the clips, DR Cillaliz. Makes me glad that I don't have to be on TV while doing my job!
I haven't used my Blackberry much because I find the keys very difficult to navigate. I consider it only an emergency tool for when I'm out of town.
-
The tv coverage is good and bad. I don't really notice them behind my head in the courtroom, but they are frustrating. I hope they get what we are talking about but when I read the coverage, especially the newspaper, I wonder what trial did she go to. I mean I saw her there, but that isn't what was said. The news story mixed up part of my opening with part of the prosecutors and attributed it all to me, so makes no sense at all. Glad the jurors are told not to read it. I hope they won't.
-
I quoted what the tv news story said - that was the second link. They always post the video and the transcript of the video. The only thing I didn't say was that I would prove he didn't shoot the gun. I guess it's sort of splitting hairs because I did say the evidence would show he didn't shoot the gun.
10 UNCONVENTIONAL RELIGIOUS ARTIFACTS
(http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,389761,00.html)
Virgin Mary on Rye
When Diana Duyser of Hollywood, Fla., sat down for breakfast one morning, she made what she calls a “miracle” discovery in her sandwich.
“When I took a bite out of it, I saw a face looking up at me — it was Virgin Mary starring back at me. I was in total shock," she told BBC News four years ago.
Whether or not it was an authentic sighting, Duyser was certain that the untraditional relic, stored in a glass case with cotton balls, brought her good fortune including $70,000 she won at a nearby casino.
In 2004, Duyser cashed in and sold her discovery on eBay to an internet casino for an astounding $28,000.
Laura, take another look in the crawdad bowl - isn't that a face I see?
If Wright and Williams are being tried separately, couldn't we have the screenwriter's dream:
I began with several WILL & GRACE episodes. First was the two part episode involving Grace's anniversary and a cryptic message from Leo on the answering machine. A few fun moments but a lot of tedious stuff, too. Not one of my favorites of the season, either part.
-
But next comes the fabulous hourlong Thanksgiving episode where Will and the gang go to Vince's parents' house for the holiday. Will's cooking, the mother is super-critical, Grace and Karen have the hots for a cute guy at the house, and Vince's sister is on the eve of her wedding and wanting to come out as a lesbian.
Lots of plots and all beautifully balanced in this one. I only got halfway through, so many of the payoffs will be in the second half which I'll watch tomorrow as I cook and eat lunch.
-
I watched last night's PROJECT RUNWAY. I did NOT agree with the person who was sent home. THough the dress wasn't great, I found it much less objectionable than the other two garments.
The winner's design was certainly interesting, and they all seemed really impressed with it, but I guess I'm a little more conservative. I'd have chosen something else from the group of "safe" designers.
-
Rest well, Pricilla (sic).
-
And then I concluded my evening with tonight's BURN NOTICE. Wonderfully fun capers. Can't wait to see what Michael does with the information he got.
Ok, I'm really going now.
I'll have delayed satisfaction - I had Hopkins and Flashpoint at 10, so I'll pick up Burn Notice at 1 AM
Best rolling piano scene ever IMHO - "The Legend of 1900". A beautiful and unappreciated movie!
I got the most amazing package in the mail today from DR George!
Thank you, thank you...
I am grinning from ear to ear! :D
Good! ;D
-
I'm having "connection" problems today (and yesterday). My IP has reported it to the phone company. Very frustrating - dropouts and dropins!
-
And sorry to hear that you aren't feeling well. I wonder if lack of sleep has anything to do with it?
Feel better soon!
Thanks. I actually started feeling nauseous before I went to bed last night (and didn't sleep), so I think the lack of sleep is a symptom of the upset tummy. :-\
-
With no writing to do, I can head down now and go to bed.
Good night!
-
I spy a bk lurking!
Good evening!
Well...
I had dinner at the Renaissance Diner with my friend, Michael. We both had great burgers, and it was good seeing each other for the first time in over a month.
Then I went to see the revival of Grease, now starring Derek Keeling and Ashley Spencer - and Mr. Soul Patrol, himself, Taylor Hicks - and that was, well... It was what it was.
-
Well, I'm finally in the hotel. I wrote the notes on the plane, so the whole sordid story is there, but the Reader's Digest version is: I walked into the airport at eleven and was immediately informed the flight was delayed fifty minutes. Then I tried to get online, but the free wireless doesn't work with some Mac laptops - apparently mine is one of them.
Then they said we might get off a little earlier. Then they didn't board us until 1:10, so so much for earlier. At 1:40 they informed us we would be sitting on the runway for another hour. Why? Because that was air traffic controller's way of not having planes circle JFK - each flight would have its own window to land right away.
Then we had the four-and-a-half hour flight. Then - wait for it - we CIRCLED for one HOUR. We finally landed at 10:50 and then spent another twenty minutes on the runway. Now, mind you I saw NO other planes, there was NO rain, NO wind, NO storm, NO nothing. Truly one of the most sickening flying days EVER. I ate a one ounce bag of chips, a one ounce bag of cashews and a biscotti. The End. I checked into the hotel, got online easily, and then immediately went to a nearby all-night deli and got a faux turkey sandwich on a roll. It's yucky, but I couldn't not eat. I so wanted my Joe Allen Caesar salad - unless we go there Saturday night, this will be the first NY trip in over twenty years when I didn't get to Joe Allen. And that is the tale.
-
-And I did find it very interesting that Taylor Hicks was signing autographs at the stage door only ten minutes before the curtain... Which happened to be only a minute after he arrived at the theatre. ??? -Of course, he doesn't appear until the second act, but.... -However, he was taller than I thought.
-
bk - Since you'll be nearby, just go to Joe Allen for lunch tomorrow. -The salad takes no time to prepare. In any case...
Welcome back to NYC!
I love the piano duel
Hmmm...I looked at the calendar and we're having company tomorrow at 7. I'd better get to sleep so I can be rested to help with the cleaning between tax returns and chatboarding, etc.
Cilla I think you looked great on the video. Myspeakersare not working so I could not hear
The recent talk about MSG, anchovies, etc. reminded me that I wanted to ask our resident cooks what they think of truffle salt. I have a friend that swears by it. Any thoughts?
Truffles, in general, have never done anything for me. Yes, I can detect their taste, their smell - which is truly unique - but it's always just seemed like an unnecessary "luxury". As for "truffle salt", well... I've started seeing it in Williams-Sonoma and some specialty shops, and I've had it offered to me at a few restaurants. It's good stuff, but all it is salt combined with powdered black truffles. -And I suspect that the truffles used for the salt were probably "loose ends"... especially since truffles are ideally served fresh.
-
Glad that BK made it to NYC...eventually. :D
Larry - Got your message! ,One of the main dishes was planned as beef, and purchased when you were still not clear that you were coming, also trying to find something that can accommodate BK's diet but still be tasty - but there will be lots of non-beef food as well. Just give a call when you either you make or don't make that 4 pm train.
-
FJL - Beef can be a part of healthy meal. It's all about portion control. -And the accompaniments and sauces.
My tummy is still not feeling right. :P I'm just sitting here watching "Antiques Roadshow," waiting for "Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List" to start.
-
I'm going to go for the night. I'll watch Kathy Griffin, then go to bed.
So, good night, all!
-
I just watched tonight's "So You Think You Can Dance?" elimination show....
WHOA!?!?!?!?!?
-
:) I'll pay closer attention to it next time.
What's that you say? Eh? Speak up!!
This has turned into the day from friggin' hell - EXTREME EDITION. When I checked in I told the guy do not charge extra money on the card (I'm using my paypal card for this trip because that's where Kevin deposited the dough for the hotel) - just the room and taxes - I told him explicitly I wasn't using the phone or anything else - just going to sleep, waking up, and checking out. He assured me that was what he was doing. So, I just go into my paypal account and this little jerk has not only charged the correct room stuff, but and ADDITIONAL five hundred dollars! I called him immediately and he apologized profusely and said the machine accidentally did it - how a machine could put in a totally different number is anyone's guess, and that he'd already called to have the charge reversed. Guess what? It takes a day or two to show back up in the account - I don't keep a lot of money in the paypal account and this little screwup by this little putz just depleted what was there down to about a hundred bucks. I'll call paypal first thing in the morning and see if they'll put it back immediately. Unbelievable.
Hiya Penny-O!
I think I'll post the notes and get the hell to sleep.
Well, as DR elmore would say: The girl gets around.
You work it, Jose!
Howdy, kidz.
I am in - wait for it - Winnemucca, NV... A tragic event in the Orloff family brought me here. Our own BK's dad owned a restaurant, back in the day - the extraordinary Kiru, with my dad's brother Morey Orloff. Uncle Morey had two kids, Jeff and Tina - unfortunately Tina was developmentally disabled. Long sad story. But eleven years ago, two lonely misfits found each other, fell in love, and married. Tina married a distant cousin of her deceased mother, a man 17 years her senior. He up and dropped dead the other day... Tina is all alone in Winnemucca, NV - as godforsaken a place as you'd ever see - something like the surface of the moon, but blazing hot, and dotted with old RV's, prefab houses with gravel instead of lawns, and some extremely pathetic casino's - three hours drive from Reno.
Getting here was a load o' fun - 6 am flight from Seattle to San Francisico, layover, flilght to Reno, rent a car, and drive for three hours to this hellhole. That was the good part. Tina is a sweet and pleasant person - with an IQ around 70. She doesn't read. She doesn't know how to cook. She doesn't know how to run her coffee machine. Nor the washing machine. She is all but helpless. I'm wasing through her dead husband's mire of bills and credit card statements and trying to find someone local to hire to be Tina's companion. There are lotsa Church folk, but it's real hard for them to tolerate a ree-tard. I may have found one kindly soul to come in three times a week to help out. It's soul-sucking. Plus Tina is bereft.
Here's the weird, terrible part - though she has a trust fund, set up by Uncle Morey for her before he died, she has virtually NO clothes, was wearing 12 year old underwear and bras, and hasn't seen a doctor or dentist for the same 12 years... The guy she married first moved her away from southern CA to Laughlin NV, then up here to Hell - and though my cousin Bob the Lawyer was taking care of things as well as he could from LA, apparently all the money he was putting into Tina's account every month was being drained off to Televangelists and other weird stuff -- there's an RV out in the shed that is worth about 6-8 thousand dollars - and they still owe 23 K on it... I found cases and cases of pocket knives - all still in the box - must be nearly fifty of 'em. Where'd he get these, Tina? He bought 'em off the TV. You wouldn't believe what I'm finding. Oy...
She is adamant about staying in this house. All by herself. "It's my house. We just moved in a year ago." She has a little dog - thank god... She is really mostly helpless, but whaddaya do??? Anyway, I'm trying to get Social Security to give her widow's benefits, even though she's only 53 - they give 'em if the widow is over 50 if disabled... trying to track down all her special ed stuff from high school 35 years ago.
And how was YOUR summer???
And, of course, the leaner the beef, the more healthful it is.
And one should always trim the fat...either before or after cooking.
I don't care how incorrect it might be, I'm gonna nominate you for sainthood!
Everyone should have a responsible relative somewhere.
DR PennyO - WOW!?!?!?!?!?!
*Do you think the story could work as a musical? Chamber opera? ;)
A musical... yes, one of those European style horrors would be nice! Tina is actually a first cousin - our fathers were brothers... I can't seem to check out of Caretaker Mode. Sheesh...
Winnemucca NV.
Isn't there something else Winnemucca has that it's sorta known for? :D
Or have those all closed?
