Well, you've read the notes, the notes were high, and now it is time for you to post until the sky high cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: ORTHOEPY!
-
I am so disgusted right now I want to vomit on the ground. I'm so tired on incompetence.
-
bk - When you call PayPal - and check back in with the hotel desk - make sure to see how many "pending charges" they put on your card. As I found out last week, I actually had more than one charge on my card. However, I did not know that until my customer service rep at my bank pointed it out - even though on my online statement all I saw was one pending charge. -It only showed up that way since they both came from the same merchant. -Consequently, I had to make sure that the hotel requested a refund for both charges.
*Btw, if you are still up, and they have a manager on duty, he should be able to easily void the initial transaction. It's a "Code 4" or "6" - depending on the Zon machine. It's a Void, NOT a Credit. -A VOID is immediate, a Credit is not. And since most hotels don't consolidate (that's not the right word) their charges until 3:00am...
-
Just so everyone knows - we'll be starting to serve food at about 7 tomorrow and there really is no glory in being fashionably late - unless you really can't get here at 7. (I know some folk have to leave before 9.)
-
My head is spinning - I think I'll try to fall unconscious now... laters, ol' pals...
-
Jose - I mentioned that there would be plenty to eat besides the beef because I think Larry doesn't care for beef that much, and I wanted to assure him there would be plenty of other stuff to eat - assuming all goes well and he makes it here.
-
Family vibes to dear Penny
-
I just talked to the desk again - they only void or "release" the charge through their authorization company - the company said it would be done and would take a day "or so." Of course, I cannot have that, so I'm hoping paypal will do the right thing and just credit the money back into the account immediately. I've told the hotel guy that if they need to speak to management that that will need to happen immediately first thing in the morning.
-
This does not bode well for a good night's sleep, either.
-
I guess I'll be walking everywhere tomorrow until this is rectified.
-
Welcome fifteen GUESTS.
-
I guess I'll try to go to sleep now.
-
But I am agitato.
-
Agitato, do you hear me?
-
bk - As long as the credit/void is in the system, you may already have the "credit" showing on your account - even if the funds aren't actually there. Just dream happy dreams.
-
Jose - I mentioned that there would be plenty to eat besides the beef because I think Larry doesn't care for beef that much, and I wanted to assure him there would be plenty of other stuff to eat - assuming all goes well and he makes it here.
Ah, well.. I know that BK was also concerned about eating a healthy meal. Maybe one of us should prepare his plate for him. ;)
-
I checked the account and it certainly isn't there right now. Hopefully the call in the morning will work - I think I had to do this once before and it worked. One way or another, I won't get off the phone until it's fixed. I should have brought my other cc's but I didn't.
-
The turkey sandwich was REALLY not very good. Blechhh - what a day.
-
I guess I should try to get some sleep, but I am agitato.
-
Oh...
And also in attendance at tonight's performance of Grease... Max Crumm and Laura Osnes. ;) -They happened to be sitting at the other end of the row from me and Rodzinski.
-
I am putting my bones to bed right now.
G'night.
-
-And once I left the Brooks Atkinson, I headed over to the Schonfeld to catch up with Jason... And also to see the crowd at the stage door that was waiting for Mario Lopez to come out... And then it was over to The Palace where I witnessed the total craziness at the stage door waiting for the newest "Star On Broadway", the new Elle Woods. The crowd was HUGE!!! It looked like the largest crowd I've seen there for that show.
-And as I walked to the subway, I didn't feel too bad about not being with a show right now. ;)
-
And...
Goodnight.
-
What am i doing up so early?

Bruce, my friend:
My heart goes out to you.
I hate flying. It's the absolute pits.

-
I have the DVD of "The Fantastiks".
Aside from the fact that the leading man was dull, my major objection is that they didn't open the film with "Try to Remember".
I guess that Coppola cut it.
Dumb!
It is, however, in the deleted scenes.
-
I'm currently watching the CENTENNIAL mini-series on DVD.
Will probably watch several more of the 2-hour episodes this weekend. There are 12 in all.
I might even walk over to the Grove and see MAMA MIA.
-
Much going on here late last night/early this morning!!
bk, sorry to hear about your travel mishaps. Glad you are here safe and sound, and hope that the financial stuff is worked out quickly.
DR Cillaliz, thanks for sharing your trial experiences with us. It is most interesting.
DR PennyO - Wow. If I were ever in a pickle, I'd definitely want you on my side!
***CAREGIVER VIBES*** to you!
-
DR FJL - I understand when the eating will commence. But what time would you prefer us to arrive? :)
-
Didn't Mrs. Madrigal's mother hail from Winnemucca?
-
Not sure what will be on my media watch this weekend.
Must study more math tonight for my exam tomorrow.
Then I have three interviews coming up for a teaching position. One on Monday and Two on Tuesday before the job fair.
Needs the vibes and good karma.
-
And the word of the day is: ORTHOEPY!
The denizens of Termite Terrace get all precise (and HYPER, TOO) when the subject is ORTHOEPY.
(an animated shorts reference.)
-
Ah, yes, Mother Mucca, the matronly madame!
-
BK:
What ever happened to The Ghastly Love of Johnny X? IMDB list it still in production and to be released in 2009! Lawrence of Arabia didn't take this long to make and release!
-
Off to work.
Hasta.
-
I almost forgot: for those of us who will be unable to attend the frolic at Fred and Skip's, the consolation prize will be part one of the season finale for Doctor Who, airing tonight on the SciFi channel.

I've got a little list
-
What time would you prefer that we arrive, DR FJL?
-
Well, we're 9 people possibly 8, so how about arriving at 7?
:)
-
I emphasized 7 only because BK said something in the notes about not eating until 7:30 tonight.
:)
-
Lots of wonderful posts yesterday!
DR CILLA LIZ I was a bit disappointed to see that you didn't wear your blue shift and matching headband....
DR PENNYO - it will be awhile before I complain about anything in my life again....I will just think of your post.
MR BK is now in the CORRECT time zone!
-
DR TCB, as far as I can tell, there are only three bois....the cutest one is married, one of the others wears only footie socks in which to tap dance, and the other has a very rich father....so guess which one attracts the most attention from the lovely young girls?
Yes, you are correct - the married one.
-
Back to work today and tomorrow - oh well.
-
Still working on recording shows for DR MBARNUM, perhaps they will go out next week.
-
Thanks, DR FJL.
-
Hmmm...that Shy-Anne Jackson doesn't look too shy in that foto.
-
Hopefully DR FJL there will be lots of photographic evidence of the soiree this evening so that we can enjoy it vicariously.
-
Interview, etc, vibes for DR MS.
Has anyone heard from DR JULIEC40?
-
TOD:
LP/CD - I am trying to transfer Ms Dorothy Provine's two WB Roaring 20's LP's to a CD to use for pre-show music for SINGIN' IN THE RAIN. When I purchased these albums with my babysitting money about 47 years ago, I was sure that Ms Provine was the best singer in the EN-TYRE world. My opinion has now changed somewhat.
DVD - The She Creature aka Marla English
-
Friday morning greetings! Today I'm going to try to be productive and maybe go see the Kit Kittridge movie.
Care-giver vibes to DR PennyO!
-
Yesterday's TOD:
Although the film ends rather abruptly....I love THE AWFUL TRUTH just for the scene in which Irene Dunne interrupts a party attended by her Ex, Cary Grant, and his high society fiance & family.
She is wonderful as she puts the KIBOSH on Grant's plan.....her gestures, accent, and movements are hilarious....

I'm up and have been on the phone with paypal. I have no idea when this will work itself out. They're having the hotel fax them some documents, but they say it could still take one business day, which could mean today or could mean Monday. I got a supervisor on the phone and he promised that they'd try to do it as quickly as possible. I then got on the phone with the hotel desk and asked for a manager. The gal asked what it was about and I told her - then she asked me the name of the person who did this. I said with a rather chilly tone "Put on a manager." She did. The manager asked me the name of the person who did this. I said, "I don't know his name." He said, "You don't know his name?" I said, "No, it didn't occur to me he was going to charge an extra $500 to my room, so I didn't think to ask his name for no reason." He said, "He had a name tag on." I said, "Are you the manager? I think you know who was on the desk last night at 11:50." He said, "Okay, I do." Then he told me that it was standard to put a hold for extra money. I told him that I told the guy specifically not to do it, that I'd arrived over two hours late, I wasn't using the phone or room service and that I was going to bed and then checking out and the guy said fine. Plus the fact that I was going to be in the hotel less than ten hours so $500 over the room cost was a little much anyway. I then told him that the guy last night admitted it was a mistake and that he'd already called and reversed the charge - then I explained the problem with paypal and the time factor. He agreed to fax the documents right now, and hopefully he's done so, at least he ended the conversation with "Consider it done." I'll call paypal back when we're on a break at Nola - I think they have wireless there.
-
DR GINNY - between ALL MY SONS and SINGIN IN THE RAIN, I haven't even opened by OBC of IN THE HEIGHTS yet.....but it is right on top of the stack!
-
Morning all. I had trouble getting on this site around 7:00am. Too many connections.
I have lots of work to do so I can't hang around much longer.
Welcome to New York BK. Sorry it's been such a difficult return.
-
All right, we're this close, let's do it.
Welcome to Page 3!

Hello DR BEN....I am off myself.....to work....oh well.
That means a Friday night at home....first in awhile!

bk, if you can make it here, you can make it anywhere! :)

With ORTHOEPY the word of the day, how about for the song of the day:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W_MZo88gzrA
Melissa Manchester's Solid Gold performance of "You Should Hear How She Talks About You" - watching her enunciate even while lip-synching is a study in orthoepy (I think??)
Favorite part: the feigned overjoy on Melissa Manchester's face when the three Solid Gold ladies join her for the dance break
-
Amazing the energy those Solid Gold dancers have even at 8:45 in the A.M.
-
It's killing me that I have to wait until I get home to view this video...
-
So far, my favorite video is still that old chesnut, "We Are A Family"... :D
-
It's actually a delightful performance by Ms. Manchester. The camp value if any is only the extent to which the aerobic gyrations of the Solid Gold dancers are only about the beat of the music with no regard to the content of the lyric.
-
Back from a semi-brisk (impossible to do brisk on the streets on Manhattan, but I almost did) slightly over two-mile jog - I did about forty-five blocks - ran up to 48th St. with several block-long detours to avoid having to stop at red lights, then back to 28th St. with several more detours. I'm really glad I got to jog. If I'm unable to tomorrow I'll have only missed one day - but my plan is to get up as early as necessary and do it.
-
I suppose the lesson learned is to bring a backup credit card, but who would ever assume something so stupid could happen and then take so long to rectify. Oh, well, moving on, and I'm just going to enjoy myself. I'll check up on paypal later to see if I need to make another call.
-
BK sorry to hear about your travel woes.
DR PennyO, wow. What a story. I would agree with nominating you for sainthood. What a lovely thing for you to do. Vibes. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
BK sorry also to hear about your hotel/paypal troubles. Crazy! :(
-
BK - sorry to hear about your dreadful cross-country trip yesterday. Hope things are looking up this morning!
-
This might be a stupid question. But how would you pay for your food at restaurants without a credit card?
And what is a paypal card? Is that like an interac card but for your paypal account?
-
I've shaved and will shortly shower and then be on my way to Nola Rehearsal Studios.
-

OMG!!! I agree with your ??? comment. What the heck happened? To me they were right on for the women. Katee and chelsie in the top. Courtney and comfort in the B2 with the latter going home.
But to me they were 100% wrong for the guys. To me will and twitch are the best. ANd will should have won the whole thing. To find mark (who was not good on wed) safe was awful. When twitch and will were B2 i thought it would be will going. Because twitch had performed with katee and he was amazing. I am not happy. Will was one of my favorites. ANd it makes it seem like it's better when the judges decide. This is ridiculous.

RE: the new GREASE leads
I feel so out of it. But i had no idea that ashley and derek (from the reality show) were going to be the new leads. Has there been much publicity about this?
And why did laura and max leave? And why did they choose these 2 to replace them?
-
Trying to decide whether to walk to Nola or cab. If I'm going to walk, I have to get out of the hotel by 10:20, and I'm not sure I can, as I've just been sort of sitting here like so much fish. We'll see what time it is after I shower. I'm ready to go, packing-wise, so that's no prob. The real issue is do I want to carry my little suitcase and the laptop for twenty-five blocks.
-
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And since we left the windows open last night, my allergies seem to be acting up already... :-\
*But I'm eating breakfast right now and having some coffee, so, hopefully, that should help.

I saw MAMMA MIA last night.
There was nobody in the theater 30 minutes before the movie started. But by 5 minutes after (people arrive during previews) it was packed.
I will say i really enjoyed it (although not as much as SEX & THE CITY). But it was really good and really fun.
The standout performance to me was amanda seyfried as sophie. She was so perfect for this part. Great job. And her singing. Well it was amazing. What a beautiful voice.
As for Meryl Streep. Well she was good, not great. Her voice was good. BUt nothing like a real broadway singer would have done. Her acting was good. I just found her WAY TOO OLD to play this part. I mean donna should be 40-45. And i know they wanted a star name. But really, they should have found a great performer who could play 40-45!
I don't feel like meryl was too old to be the girl's mother (all of meryl's real children are 20s and even teens). but in this case, it only makes sense if donna had the kid very young.
I thought the worst singer was pierce brosnan (sp?). Did not enjoy listening to him at all. But colin firth was quite a good singer.
And of course christine baranski was great to watch!
Some of the choreography was very good. And some was off (to me).
But the real mistake was aging the 3 men and donna. I am sure they could have found all 40 year olds (colin firth was the only one who seemed right, although i have no idea how old he is).

And why did laura and max leave? And why did they choose these 2 to replace them?
DR Jennifer - Yep, there was publicity. Although, I think the official announcement came out during the final weeks of the MTV Legally Blonde show, so it might have gotten all rolled into one, so to speak. In any case, there were a bunch of lead stories on Playbill.com, Broadwayworld.com, etc. -And with Taylor Hicks in the show now too, well...
As for why Max and Laura left, well... They were only obligated to be in the show for a year - that was the prize for "winning". I'm not sure if they chose not to renew at the end of their contract, or if the decision was made for them. Either way, it's a good way to keep the show running - for better or worse. :-\

Well, regardless of who your favorites are - or even mine - at this point in the competition, everyone really is quite good, and sending anyone home is never an easy decision/revelation. At least he'll be on the tour, and you-know-who can return to the judging panel - for better or worse. ;)

I wonder if i you know who will want to return! I know they are all good. But to me there are some that are much better than others. To me comfort was the worst girl. ANd even though mark is good, i think much of his popularity is because of his lucky pairing with chelsie. I really thought that he was the weakest guy (especially on wed night). I know they are voting for the most popular dancer, not the best. But it just sucks!

The one image burned in my mind from "Solid Gold" is Rex Smith poured into a pair of tiger-striped spandex pants singing "Eye of the Tiger". Alas, it's not really a pleasant memory/image. Funny, humorous maybe, but not pleasant.

As for the Friday Media Check, well...
I don't think I've listened to much of anything this week - except for potential Disneyworld Cast Members.
However, I did come across this CD yesterday...
(http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31JaIW4bNyL._SS400_.jpg) (http://www.amazon.com/Wholl-Speak-Love-Traincha/dp/B0012IT0U0/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1216995858&sr=8-2)
...And may have to give it a try sometime. -After I buy it, of course.
-
Good morning!
The sun has been going in and cloud of the thick clouds all morning, but it promises to get up to 90 today.
-
So much tsuris, so little time. Vibes for all, including the Monkey and His Brass.
BK, one of my cast members was your close personal friend Kay Cole's cover in the national tour of Les Mis, I just found out. She also did the national tour of Fiddler with Herschel Bernardi (she was Chava), and has been regaling me with hilarious Bernardi stories. He evidently wasn't very nice to work with. :)
-
Page Four Dorothy and Glinda Dance!!!

bk, if you can make it here, you can make it anywhere! :)
Certainly, I'm not laughing at bk's troubles, but this gave me my first big laugh of the day.
Thanks!

-And there was another Miley Cyrus concert this morning here in NYC? -This time on NBC. Glad I'm not in midtown right now.
-
I got up early this morning to mow the front yard. I probably could have waited a few more days; it really wasn't that overgrown, but it was a cool morning, and I'm not certain how many of those we're likely to have in the upcoming week.
Now, I won't have to worry about it for awhile.
-
I think I forgot to mention that I did get around to watching a DVD for fun last night - THE RITZ.
The movie has always seemed just a bit off in comic timing and the way the gags are staged and filmed for me. I saw it at the movies when it first opened and at a revival house, too, some years later, and it just always leaves me feeling that certain parts of it just don't work at all on screen.
I do think Paul Price is hilarious in all of his scenes. I'm a big fan of Kaye Ballard, but I don't think she's shown to very good advantage here at all. And, of course, Treat Williams is a stitch.

Though she also did it with Nehemiah Persoff, IIRC, whom she said was divoon.

Oy! Sorry.

Among the funnier Bernardi stories--when the tour ended and Bernardi handed out gifts to the cast, he had "gotten" them the chocolate mints that had been left on his pillows at the various hotels. :) One each. :)

Hello.
I have a list of those "annoying annoyances' to do today, so guess what? I got engrossed in the posts. Isn't that funny? (Procrastination, I find, takes all forms.)
PennyO: I saw so much of that while taking care of my dad and my uncle. It is truly heartbreaking. Might you find someone who needs an inexpensive place to live to help your cousin? God knows that many people must be hurting financially these days.

Still haven't read Water for Elephants!

BK, try not to stress so much and just have fun. Things will work out fine.

Books: Among about 5, "Water for Elephants"
I'm trying to read this one, too.
I say "trying"because I usually read in bed before going to sleep. My big love cat doesn't like me to read so he always shoves the book out of the way so he can make out with me.
So I haven't gotten very far...
with the book, that is.

Off to do some errands and see a movie - bye for now!

Edisaurus, you just made me laugh out loud!

TOD: 3rd Rock from the Sun 2nd Season DVDs.
This arrived yesterday. I purchased it because I liked the clip from the 3D episode (French Stewart dancing to Randy Newman's "Life Has Been Good To Me") and was curious to see it in 3D with the glasses.
I popped in the disc and went to that scene, only to discover that it had been shortened quite a bit at the head and tail (compared to what was on the web). It didn't make any sense to me why these episodes would have been cut, so I went to Amazon and read comments from several people who said that these were the "syndicated" versions, therefore shorter. I guess you can put more episodes on a disc and it's cheaper for the company, but I really think that it's misrepresenting the product if you don't make the buyer aware of this.
I haven't bought many series on DVD so I wasn't even aware that this was a possibility. But you can be sure I'll read Amazon comments before buying again. How annoying!
-
DR RonP did you see who got nominated on BIG BROTHER!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, I did! ;D
-
DR Jane, are you planning on attending the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland?
Marc Acito did! Over at his blog (http://marcacito.blogspot.com/), he relates some of the comments overheard among the attendees:
"They do have an intermission where we can leave, right?"
"Where do you want to sit?"
"Doesn't matter. I can nap anywhere."
"Iago's the bad guy."
"Did you read the synopsis? Does it sound depressing and horrible?"
And Marc's favorite...
(Man on cell phone in bathroom): "No, I'm not in the theater exactly. I'm...well...taking a leak."

In other cat-in-bed news:
We have one cat, Gris-Gris, who has always been very aloof. She is always a bit hostile towards the other cats, and barely tolerates us.
A few nights ago, I woke up and could feel a cat sleeping on me. Not unusual because Bailey, the big love cat and his little sister Ociee always sleep with us...in fact they both race us to the bed at night. But the cat sleeping on me was Gris-Gris, and she has been coming to bed with us every night since, and purring and nestling in with us.
It's like someone threw a switch or something. What a change, after having her for 5 years.
I hope she's not one of those "death" cats who knows when someone is going to die like those nursing home stories!

DR Michael S, vibes and good karma for your exam, interviews and a teaching job.

I hope she's not one of those "death" cats who knows when someone is going to die like those nursing home stories!
I know EXACTLY what you mean, but I don't think that's the case here. Cats come around in their own time.
What might seem like "...after 5 years" to you was probably the exact amount of time she needed to decide to take the plunge.
Cats mull things over....much like Ents in the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy.
-
FWIW in the "death" cats scenario:
Within a few weeks of the end of my own Miss Vickie's life, I had a vivid dream that my late cat, Dickens, had walked into my living room. He stopped and looked at me. I was overcome. "Dickens?" I said aloud. He came over to me and leapt into my lap. I hugged him and petted him and looked him in the eye.
"Why are you here"? I heard myself thinking. And then the thought immediately came to me: "He's coming to let me know it's Miss Vickie's time to go."
Vickie began "failing" soon after. She lost about 5 pounds over those next weeks and weighed barely 3 pounds on her last day.
-
I'm trying to read this one, too.
I say "trying"because I usually read in bed before going to sleep. My big love cat doesn't like me to read so he always shoves the book out of the way so he can make out with me.
So I haven't gotten very far...
with the book, that is.
;D
Bogie used to snuggle in-between me and the book I was reading. Luckily he liked to scoot under the covers and I could usually manage, with some wiggling, to maneuver my arm around him & get the book above his head so I could continue reading.

The folks who issued "Roseanne" on DVD did the exact same thing to the Season 1 issue. Fans were outraged and vocal. Even Roseanne got into the issue. All the remaining seasons were issued intact, but Season 1, to my knowledge, has not been corrected.
Some of the best moments of "Roseanne" came at the end of the episode during or after the closing credits (before the shot of the witch on the broom). I always blamed the stations airing the syndicated shows for cutting those off...now I understand they were edited out FOR syndication. And that's a cultural crime to me.
-
I know EXACTLY what you mean, but I don't think that's the case here. Cats come around in their own time.
Exactly what I was about to say.

DR Edisaurus - I purchased JUST THAT EPISODE in a special [old] VHS release. I think it's the tape, but it has "flutter" and "wow" distortion in it. It's the whole uncut episode, though. If you think you can do anything with it, I'm happy to loan you the tape!

Thanks for sharing that dream, DR Ron Pulliam.

It's Friday, July 25th. My boss is out sick. One co-worker is on vacation. Another co-worker doesn't work on Fridays.
That leave me and three others to play nicely and struggle through the day without getting into trouble.
Somehow, I think we'll manage pretty well.
-
DR Jane, are you planning on attending the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland?
MBarnum should come down and see The Clay Cart (http://www.osfashland.org/browse/production.aspx?prod=88) with us. I hear it is excellent though we haven't made plans to see it.
We do have tickets for OUR TOWN when my cousins from England visit next month. For us the uniqueness of this play will be seeing it on the outdoor stage, under the stars.

DS Craig's girlfriend is in the skies heading for NY where she will have a 5 hour layover before her short flight to Pittsburgh. The flight from Bucharest left early & is estimated to arrive an hour early. I hope the flight out of NY isn't late.
It would be nice if she could have company during her layover. Remember the days when you didn't need to get through security and could "hang" out with travelers at the airport. What I miss the most is having someone waiting at the gate when I arrived, or greeting someone. The Medford airport is so small we will be able to greet our relatives when they arrive.

Joshie took a long time to come around, but it was worth it. He was feral when we got him. If you visited our home, you'd never see him. But he is comfortable with the family.

Thank you DR Singdaw. This will be her second flight alone. Before Craig she never flew anywhere, and was too afraid to until their first trip to the States. I think this is good for her. I'm sure the closer she gets to Pittsburgh, the more difficult the wait to see each other becomes.
She is traveling with U.S. currency in case of a long delay and she is fluent in English. She even speaks Spanish. She said she learned watching movies in Spanish. I envy that ability. I grew up in L.A. & can't speak it.

What "approach" do you use? Game Wardens never respond to calls for help about house flies or ants.
You need to tell them you have a Moose caught in your garage, or an elk trapped in your basement.

I am not sure what to make of the nominations. I really did not know who keesha would nominate. I am quite surprised that she nominated jessie. It is pretty funny that it seems she only did it after he went up and bugged her! I don't care for him. So i hope he goes. But i am conflicted. My 2 favs are keesha and angie. But they are on opposite sides. Part of the reason i loved keesha is because she was going to turn on libra/april. She still doesn't like them. But for now she is still aligned with them. I really like angie. aNd was sort of only tolerating jessie and michelle because of her. So now i'm all mixed up. I don't want angie gone. It will be interesting to see what happens!

In my DVD player: The Romance Collection, Volume 2 (http://www.oldies.com/product-view/12105M.html) that was waiting for me here at work! It was supposed to be a 14-disc set for $29.99: Horatio Hornblower (discs 1&2), The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby, Vanity
Fire Fair, The Flame Trees of Thika, The Mayor of Casterbridge, Catherine the Great, Tess of the D'Urbervilles and The Great Gatsby!, but what I received didn't have 14 discs. NO! It had 16 discs!! :D It included Edward and Mrs. Simpson. So, if you want nine, count 'em, NINE A&E "Literary Classics," hie yourself over to Oldies.com and get them...and the shipping was only $3.95. A VERY good deal! I figured that, compared to full list price of all the titles (about $320), I saved 91%!! ;D

Got my errands done without getting too hot. The grocery store had too many people, but thankfully they weren't at the self-check lines, and I got through there very quickly.
-
While I cooked and ate lunch, I watched the rest of the WILL & GRACE Thanksgiving episode. One of the best of season seven for sure.
-
The next was a Christmas themed episode with Blythe Danner as Will's mom. Grace was invited to tea at her house and broke and figurine, but didn't tell he she did. Naturally, Will gets dragged into trying to cover up for Grace and ends up with egg on his face. Grace did, too, but she deserved to since she did break it and tried to cover up the accident.
Love Blythe, but I didn't love this episode.
-
Then I put in today's review disc - FERRIS BUELLER'S DAY OFF. I've never been a fan of this movie. I find Ferris selfish and self-centered and close to being a jerk who draws people into his own orbit, and they end up in trouble while he comes out smelling like arose. In John Hughesland, all audlts are dim-witted or pompus fools who need to be taken down a peg, and I just find most of the movie not fun but kind of mean-spirited and sour.
But I know I'm in the minority. I didn't find it any more palatable this afternoon in this new release of it (same old dirty transfer) though I did gain more respect for Alan Ruck as Ferris' best friend and poor Jeffrey Jones who has to endure hell on earth in this movie playing the loony principal out to trap Ferris playing hooky.
-
I'm sorry to read this.
Ever since I saw his story on ABC, and watched the video of his "Last Lecture", it/he has literally, in a way, haunted me - in a good way. Randy Pausch's wisdom and courage(!) - and that of his wife too - have truly helped to put some of my troubles and moments of self-doubt into perspective. He literally "had it worse" than I did, but he managed to keep going and to stay positive. A true inspiration.

The only bonus feature on this reissue is a commentary track by director Hughes, and it's part dull scene description and part psychoanalysis of the motivations behind the characters on-screen. I did enjoy it when he talked about his previous work with several of the on-screen actors.

Since I'm going out for a drink with some friends in about an hour, I came upstairs a little earlier than usual, so I haven't had time to check out today's AS THE WORLD TURNS or any of last night's shows. I'll get to them tonight before MONK and PSYCH.

The above photo was taken at some luncheon event where the cast (and orchestra) of Eleanor: An American Love Story (http://www.eleanorthemusical.com/) was invited to perform a selection or two. Mrs. Clinton was the keynote speaker that day, and they arranged for us to have a picture taken with her. Among those in the cast were Rita Gardner (the original Louisa in The Fantasticks) at Mother Roosevelt, Anne Kanengeiser (Marin Mazzie's understudy in the original cast of Ragtime and Maureen McGovern's understudy in Little Women) as Eleanor, Anthony Cummings as FDR. -Mrs. Clinton did come to Ford's Theatre to see show a few weeks later, however, Bill did not attend with her. ;)

DR Jose,
How was Derek last night. Did he have any pitch problems as he sometimes did on the GREASE reality show. Did he get to show off those muscled arms of his?
Derek was OK. He sounded on pitch, although, it also sounded like they may have lowered "Sandy" a step or two for him. -However, I could have sworn someone else was singing some of his high notes at the end? -But the sound was also a bit funky last night, so that could have been why it sounded dis-embodied. Other people around me thought they heard the same thing too.
As for his arms... No, not really. None of the costumes are that revealing for anyone. -Heck, there's not even any real mooning in this production. ??? However, when he comes out in his track shorts/uniform, you do get to see the "chicken legs" that are mentioned in the script. ;) :-\ ::)

Back from several banking stops (thank goodness for drive-up windows!) and seeing Kit Kittredge: An American Girl, which I enjoyed immensely.
As The Vixter can tell you, Kit is my favorite American Girl, because she lives in Cincinnati (during the Great Depression). The movie had me from the moment Kit's streetcar stop was announced as "Clifton & Ludlow, Clifton & Ludlow." That's the corner near the University of Cincinnati where we go for Skyline Chili and Graeter's Ice Cream. Casting is excellent - I especially liked Jane Krakowski, Stanley Tucci, Wallace Shawn, and Glenne Headly (who resembled Blythe Danner somewhat).
The kids in the audience were totally drawn into the story and didn't need a lot of special effects or CGI to entertain them.
Why was I the only one who laughed when Stanley Tucci, as the magician, said, "I've never levitated a mobile librarian before."?
-
DR Ginny I'm shocked you were the only one who laughed. ;D

I'm having an eBay row with a seller.
I've been taken to task over not paying for one of two items purchased July 10.
EBay has told me I must resolve this before July 31 or naughty things will be done to me.
As it happens, I paid for both items on July 11. They both appear in my PayPal records as having been paid.
"My EBay" shows one of the items as being credited (i.e., seller left me feedback thanking me for my fast payment...on the ONE item). He did not, however, mark the other item as being paid even though the amount of money he accepted via PayPal covered "both."
When I got the notice via e-mail last night, I was immediately flustered. How could I have done that, I wondered? I don't make mistakes like this. I thought that age might be compromising my abilities to function on the internet.
So what did I do? Why, I followed the links and PAID for the two items. AGAIN, as it turns out.
I have provided every bit of documentation I can to seller who remains totally silent. I did, however, get acknowledgement from PayPal that my payment had been "received."
I trust that the seller, whose feedback record is 100% positive, will do the right thing and return the superfluous payment to my PayPal account.
I guess I'm a bit like BK when it comes to foulups. I want things to be put right. I hate delays. I hate non-responsiveness.

There will be nothing covered about the dish at tonight's get-together. The dish will be lively and very much out in the open.

The mail just came.
And what do you think???
My three DVD sets from ThomasFilmClassics arrived. After only two days!
WOW!

"Ebay problems go right" vibes to Ron P
By George, YOU DID IT! No sooner had you posted than the seller contacted me, told me what had happened, apologized and assured me my order would be here by Tuesday.
And then PayPal notified me of full reimbursement of the extra payment.
Life is GOOD....and your vibes MADE IT HAPPEN!
;)
-
Are you charged extra for this service :)
der Brucer
PayPal is so secretive and hush-hush, I couldn't actually say. It's a hidden fee, if it exists.
But the threat is so menacing it's tingling.
-
How come Chopsticks better half isn't coming to the party. Maybe everyone would like him better!
Nah! It's a TOSS-UP! ;D
-
There will be nothing covered about the dish at tonight's get-together. The dish will be lively and very much out in the open.
Well...all right.
Is a doggie bag for Elmo possible?
-
Aren't we on page 10 yet?
-
Well, we ain't gonna get there by not posting.
-
Who said that?
-
"...aid that?"

"......d that?"
-
"...... ..at?"

Hey! It's a whatzis!

A whatzis?

You know...a whozis!

I had a cat that refused to get on the bed until he was about 6 years old or so, then he got on the bed every night, curled up in the crook of my arm and stayed there for about 20-30 mibutes before jumping down and going to sleep somewhere else

That must have been his "me"-ow time!

The new Rabbi Shergill CD.
Mike, are you interviewing someone from F TROOP?

I'll try this again. I did a post and it said I wasn't logged in, I hate it when that happens. Today was ok. It was DNA and blood evidence. I'll post links to the news stories when they are up.
The Journal reporter did a better job with the full story in this morning's paper. It's the best summary of what happened yesterday http://www.siouxcityjournal.com/articles/2008/07/25/news/local/883c82ae3913ac9d8625749100086ca1.txt (http://www.siouxcityjournal.com/articles/2008/07/25/news/local/883c82ae3913ac9d8625749100086ca1.txt)

I'm feeling good about the way things are going. I'm just REALLY glad it's the weekend. I am exhausted and although I need to work this weekend, I'm not working tonight.
-
As for the Friday Media Check, well...
I don't think I've listened to much of anything this week - except for potential Disneyworld Cast Members.
However, I did come across this CD yesterday...
(http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31JaIW4bNyL._SS400_.jpg) (http://www.amazon.com/Wholl-Speak-Love-Traincha/dp/B0012IT0U0/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1216995858&sr=8-2)
...And may have to give it a try sometime. -After I buy it, of course.
Jose, since I had never heard of the artist, I went to Amazon to read about this CD. What the HELL makes this single CD worth $57.98? Does she hand deliver it to your house?

Woohoo...I just saw that my favorite Greer Garson film, BLOSSOMS IN THE DUST, is finally making it to dvd! To be released on Nov. 11th.
You've heard of Greer Garson?
-
The lawn guys blew my leaves, and i didn't even have to ask. I briefly considered asking one of them to top off my bougainvillea (since I can't do that at the moment without falling), but I thought better of it ----not knowing what might happen. :o
When was the last time you had your bougainvillea topped?
-
Has anyone heard from DR TCB?
-
Have I missed news of DR Danise or of DR td?
-
Have I missed news of DR Danise or of DR td?
He probably doesn't read thier posts either.
-
I wonder if DR MBarnum is confusing Geer Garson and Kit Carson.
Colorado Dust rather than blossoms.
-
Has anyone heard from DR TCB?
Not a peep!
-
Maybe I am missing something, but can someone explain to me why I would want to buy a DVD of the film THE ALAMO, with English and French subtitles?
-
No.

God evening, all! I had a great time in DC, but - when I thought my day was over - I was given a huge correspondence file of the Library of Congress music division wth Mr & Mrs Robert Bartlett, Victor Herbert's daughter Ella and his son-in-law. It's through Ella's perseverance that most of the Herbert papers are at the Library. Since the big question is, what private dealer held the manuscri[ts of THE LADY OF THE SLIPPER and when did the scores get to the LoC, I had a lot of correspondence to go through. I learned about Gustav Klemm, who owned two manuscripts of BABES IN TOYLAND and the efforts to purchase from the Andre de Coppet estate between 1952 and 1955 the BABES IN TOYLAND manusctip[ts he won at auction in 1935, but i never learned a thing about the acquisition of THE LADY OF THE SLIPPER! I guess there will be a day trip in the next month to investigate further.
So, I caught the train about six and I'm back. At 3 or so I found a wind tunnel outside the library to call DR FJL to tell him I would not be back for the soiree; I had tried to call him several times from within the Library and the phone would not work. Yesterday I had left him a message that I thought I could make it. That was before the correspondence and that's my day.
I have to say the Capitol Hill Suites are going through renovation and look wonderful. I told them to give me room 504 every visit from now on.
-
Mais oui - pour les hommes, merci?
-
Thanks to DR FJL for posting the Melissa Manchester clip this morning. A fun song.....she looked sort of freaky....but everyone did then, I guess.
That is a FUN song to dance to - and it was one of the songs I taught at our Dance Convention that year and it was very popular....the kids loved it....very easy to choreograph...and lots of fun.
-
I don't know who that woman in the white pants suit is, but that guy with her is Jose Simbulan.
-
Enjoying some old television shows....
-
They showed the preview for the new HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL movie before MAMMA MIA.
Now i know they are both musicals. But do they really think these 2 movies have the same target audience???
There was nobody under 20 at the MAMMA MIA showing i went to!
-
My 2 year old niece is so funny. Tonight we finished an anniversary card she was making for her parents.
I guess i should realize that telling her anything is a surprise will just mean that she will blurt it out.
Because all she kept saying to her daddy was, "daddy shhhh, i cannot tell you until tomorrow. so do not ask about the card. it is a secret!"
Luckily i did not show her where i hid it. Or i'm sure she would have shown him where it was! :)
-
Back from a very long day - and what a day and what a night. I will go write about it all in the notes, but it was a very intense and good rehearsal, and then a beautiful dinner at FJL and Skip's. Skip outdid himself - the food was yummilicious beyond belief. Jose, Vixmom, Vixter, Julie, and singdaw were as delightful as always, and we laughed and laughed and just when we thought we could laugh no more we laughed again. Both Vixmom and I threw caution to the wind, diet-wise. I didn't feel bad about it because of my really brisk two-mile run and because I did a brisk two-mile walk home after dinner. We had flank steak, incredibly wonderful deviled eggs a al Skip, foccaccia (sp?) and salad. And a freshly made cheesecake with blueberries for dessert. It's the first dessert I've had in over three weeks - a very small piece, and it was great.
-
After the rehearsal and before dinner, I got checked in to Miss Crista Moore's apartment - it's very nice and roomy. I'm nervous about the Internet here, because I'm glomming on to someone's signal - the one that was working really well when I got here, is hardly working at all now. Luckily there are two to choose from that we can get on, and this one seems okay for the moment, although it won't load AOL.

Ron P - so glad my vibes helped out :)
-
My DH and my DS arrived home within an hour of one another and we've had our traditional family movie and pizza Friday night. Watched The Bucket List and now everyone's ready to turn in.
Glad to hear the soiree was a success and that DR Elmore had a fruitful trip to LoC.
'night!

Glad you made it to NYC, BK, sounds like things are improving..vibes that it keeps doing just that

Today's installment from KTIV.
-
Mike, are you interviewing someone from F TROOP?
I am just watching it to see an episode of an actress who made a guest appearence on the show...but I won't be interviewing her as she does not want a story done on her for reasons unknown...however, we have become e-mail buddies and she sends me daily photos of her dog. :D
She is very sweet, had a starring role in a TV series in the 1950s and was a former Miss USA. But she is very private.

Today's 6:00 PM news installment from KCAU
-
You've heard of Greer Garson?
Only by accident.
-
There are some good shots of the courtrrom in these reports. I think it's such a cool place. The acoustics stink, but I love being there
-
I hope there will be pictures of the NYC soiree.
-
Ginny - So nice of you to see Skip's show on Aug, 28
-
I sure hope the jury can hear better than we can!
-
Yes! There had better be pictures!
-
I had a nice evening of nostalgic entertainment. I began by watching another WILL & GRACE episode. This was the one where they find out Vince has been fired from his police job and is working in an organic grocery store (and he gets fired from there, too). Of course, this is the beginning of the end for Vince and Will in Season 7.
-
Feeling like I wanted to see some more WILL & GRACE before putting in disc 3 in the current set, I plucked the series finale off the shelf and played that. Leslie Jordan was lots of fun, and there was a nice peep-in from Kevin Bacon, too. And Vince and Will together with their baby son was a nice sequence.
-
Next, I decided to rewatch this week's episode of THE CLOSER which I had recorded on Monday night on the off-chance I might want to rewatch it. Nice episode. Fritz looks really good in this episode, particularly before he has his back problem.
-
Jose was snapping photographs like nobody's business.
-
I sure hope the jury can hear better than we can!
I can give you the links to the site if you want me to, The Jury is right up front and there are speakers for them to hear the microphones. It's really not hard to hear in the front of the courtroom. The TV cameras have to be in the back very back of the room. It's not good to hear.
Here's the link to the KTIV transcript. http://www.ktiv.com/global/story.asp?s=8738118

I forgot to mention that the paypal emergency has been taken care of and my money is back in the account.
-
Next, I watched last night's MY LIFE ON THE D-LIST. Another just OK episode. Bora Bora did look beautiful.
-
I'm quite tired and it's quite hot in Crista's apartment. There are several fans going and it's cooling off - she has one A/C window unit but it's ancient and I don't really want to use it.
-
I started last night's FEAR ITSELF. New Superman himself Brandon Routh was the primary guest star, and I only got about half of the show watched. Should be able to finish it tomorrow while I eat lunch.
-
I forgot to mention that the paypal emergency has been taken care of and my money is back in the account.
So things really ARE improving!
-

It's cool enough here to have the windows and doors open. Maybe it'll continue to cool off there too as the night progresses.
-
And I ended the evening with tonight's PSYCH. As usual funny, delightful show. They're really not doing much with Cybill Shepherd as a guest star, however.
-
I recorded MONK while I was watching other things. Maybe I'll have time to catch up with it tomorrow.
-
Great news about the Paypal issue, BK!
-
Thanks to DR FJL and his ever lovin' Skip for fabulous food and a delightful evening. It was great to see bk and great fun all around. And, may I say, DR Vixmom does indeed look fantastic! :D
DR Ron Pulliam, my DH was also in the city tonight, but had to entertain a client. And that is not a euphemism.
-
And NO DRs ears should be burning. ;D
-
bk, DR FJL, and DR JoseSPiano came up with an incredible volume of parody lyrics. bk serenaded Toby. And DR Vixter was a good sport about it all.

You need to give them one of your business cards, Cillaliz.
-
I watched tonight's episdoe of "Psych" and mostly enjoyed it. I agree with you, Matt...they're not doing much of anything with Cybill. :-\ Why have the character on at all if they're not going to use her.
-

???
-
Now, I'm watching Doctor Who...so far, so good!
-
The tv transcript misspelled your name again.
-
Or did I make an error pointing out someone's mistake?
-

The publicity surrounding her casting has been bigger than anything they've actually done with her in the show. Maybe she'll figure more crucially in the show in later episodes this season.
-
Well, I'm heading down to bed. Hopefully there will be some pictures up tomorrow.
Good night!
-
I'm going to change the discussion thread, so hold on for a moment.
