Well, you've read the notes, the notes were low in calories and content, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently cownting cowlories.
-
And the word of the day is: POPINJAY!
-
Once again, navigating around the site is speed personified - but posting is like glue. WHY?
-
And a very happy haineshisway.com birthday to Hapgood.

Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And I was up earlier, but that was because some really(!) loud(!) back-up "beep" woke me up around 5:30. I think it was either the trash trucks or the police van that camps out down on the corner. At least I was able to get back to sleep for a few more minutes.
-
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, KEVIN SPIRTAS!!!!!
-
LOL!
Apparently, the newscaster almost missed coming back into the studio for the local news break during "The Today Show". She just spent the past three minutes trying to catch her breath after running into the studio, and gasping for air almost every other word.
-
bk - Yes, they passed a law here in NYC regarding the posting of calorie counts on fast food menus that went into effect a few months ago. -Well, it's not just restricted to fast food restaurants; it's related to the number of locations they have. *Going to Starbucks has certainly been an eye-opener lately. In any case...
Just go to any restaurant's website, and you should be able to pull up a nutritional chart. Pizza Hut has a good one - even if it is a little but fussy.
*And, yes, you can eat pizza and still lose weight. You can eat any food and still lose weight. It's just a matter of how much of each food you eat.
-
As for the Topic of the Day....
Cookies.
-
TOD:
High Calorie food that I can't seem to do without? No question: ice cream! :)
-
As for the other half of the TOD:
I don't know how low-calorie it is, but my nutrionist wanted me eating small bits of protein at regular intervals throughout the day to control my blood sugar. The easiest and least fuss is nuts, so you can usually find me with a zip-lock or two of 20 almonds or cashews each - that's about one serving.
-
Happy Birthday to Kevin!
-
Yes, I agree with the notes that Skip's cheesecake, in moderation, is very much part of the low-cal.
-
I have to make a presentation at 10am. It's something I've done before so it should go smoothly. I haven't been around much the past couple of weeks but I'll be around even less today as I am in the Training Annex from 10-12.
Bye!
-
Happy birthday to Kevin Spirtas!!!
-
Again in ArnoldBrockman's absence, with the word of the day being POPINJAY (defined by some sources as "a vain or talkative person, who chatters like a parrot"), a possible song of the day is:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bh8yNXF6jMs
"I Hear Talk" sung by Bucks Fizz
-
As i've noted before, "I Hear Talk" contains the couplet that has words to think about in this internet age, even though the song was recorded long before the internet:
"If you don't want a headline better use your head
'Cause I heard someone say something you said"
-
Tuesday morning greetings! Had to go for a blood test on my way to work - I got a good tech who got it on the first try. Whew!
-
TOD:
ICE CREAM!!!
-
Happiest of birthdays to Kevin Spirtas!
-
And the word of the day is: POPINJAY!
It almost sounds like something from Elmore's VHS collection, but I don't think he's into that kind of stuff. Exactly.
:o
-
LOL!
Apparently, the newscaster almost missed coming back into the studio for the local news break during "The Today Show". She just spent the past three minutes trying to catch her breath after running into the studio, and gasping for air almost every other word.
Bad timing on taking a cigarette break, huh? Serves her right.
-
Good morning, all! I had weird dreams about the Macbeths last evening, something about a dinner they were throwing and I was forced to attend as "family." Ugh. I've spent the morning entering phone numbers into my new cell phone and I am almost caught up with all of the returns on the requests I sent out.
I'm about ready to leave for Toyland and then the NYPL. After that I have to deliver a score to my copyist Jonathan.
TOD: ice cream! I've become quite partial to Turkey Hill Black Cherry. I am becoming my father.
I've sent him an e-card, but I'll extend birthday wishes here as well to Kevin!
-
TOD
I really don't bother with calorie counting, in any way, shape or form. Some time back, when der B's health wasn't in a good way, his doc told him basically to keep his weight up, and I've been cooking for him that way ever since.
All I do is make sure he's got a good balance of foods to eat, that are enjoyable, flavorful and nutritious. I stay away from pre-prepared stuff, cooking as much as I can from scratch, and using prepared stuff (such as salad dressings) as ingredients in a dish, rather than relying on them as the dishes themselves. So far, the results have been pretty good. He's looking good, for a guy who is about to hit
70
in less than two weeks.
-
Speaking of which, since it's der B's birthday coming up, I've found a very nice variant on the usual leg of lamb recipe for his birthday dinner:
The usual involves poking holes into the leg, and stuffing the holes with rosemary and garlic. The variant adds...
wait for it...
ANCHOVIES!!!
Yep, the anchovies melt into the lamb while the leg roasts, boosting the flavor up that very nice notch. On top of which, the whole of the leg is schmeared with an anchovy butter, which melts into the lamb itself and down into the basting liquid in the bottom of the pan (involving white wine), which can then be reduced down into a wonderful sauce to serve with the lamb.
Add some nicely mashed potatoes and a veg, and we've got a wonderful dinner for der B's birthday.
I have no idea what the calorie count would be on a serving of this meal, and I really don't care. A well-fed der Brucer is a happy der Brucer, and that's all that matters.
-
Good Morning, once again!
Greetings from Chelsea Studios. Looks like it will be a busy morning. As for whether or not it will be a good or bad morning, well, that waits to be seen.

Good Morning, once again!
Greetings from Chelsea Studios. Looks like it will be a busy morning. As for whether or not it will be a good or bad morning, well, that waits to be seen.
Just share with us the high notes and low. ;)

I don't count calories at all when i'm watching what i'm eating.
I've been eating as much as i want (which granted isn't very much) of meat, chicken, cheese, fruits and veggies.
I occasionally eat pumpernickel bread.
But stay away from any type of dessert (except light jello and whipped topping). No sugars. No processed foods.
The one thing i'm missing is exercise. Have not been good at all! I need to try to bike more times a week (at least 3). And i have a rebounder, which i should do every day.
-
Good morning!
Felt very warm this morning when I went out to get the paper, and we're going to have a high of 93 today, so I'm determining that we're still in the midst of summer.
-
He won't see it here but nevertheless:
A very Happy Birthday to Kevin Spirtas!!!!!
Maybe someone can let him know that the membership of HHW is sending him its best regards.
-
I should get in a bit more nap time. I've been wanting to go downtown, just to putz around for a few hours, preferably on my own, and there's the Farmer's Market today as well.
And tonight is the season opener for EUReKA.
Then it's back to my usual schedule tomorrow for billing at work.
-
Today I'll finish THE CLOSER episode from Season 2 that I started last night. I'm not sure if I'll have time for anything fun today since I'll be working.
-
I saw that EUREKA was beginning its third season tonight.
I don't watch it, and the NCIS episode is another rerun from last season, so nothing on TV tonight for me.
-
I'll be watching BRAND UPON THE BRAIN from Criterion today. Sounds like a very unusual movie from the little bit I've read about it. There are also a good many bonus features on the one disc (the film only runs 99 minutes), so it may take me into the evening before I'm finished with this release.

It rained onstage last night....and rained and rained and rained.
Oh and it rained in the audience too. I forgot my camera....but I will try to remember to take it tonight.

Actually it was more of a hose spray.....but it was interesting. Too bad Don doesn't know his dance.
-
A very Happy Birthday to dear Kevin. I will hug him when I am lucky enough to see him again. A truly sweet (and might I add, hunky) guy.
Todayt is also my mother's birthday. This is the first birthday I haven't been able to see her or talk to her. Since that is not a possibility in the world I inhabit, I shall drink a toast of orange juice in her honor. I know she's happy and healthy again not on this earth. :) Talking with Jeanette MacDonald and Beverly Sills, I hope.

I'd have to say the high calorie food I'd hate to give up is chocolate. It really is an addiction and one very difficult to curb.

Now, I'm going to play on the computer just a bit and then head downstairs to check the mail and then start preparing lunch.

I saw a wonderful program on the HDTV channel last e'en produced by the National Trust in the UK.

I started to watch that, but my DH said he had already seen it, so I changed the channel. Then he fell asleep! :(

TOD: I guess my favorite "meal" of the low-cal variety would be a spinach salad with chopped hard-boiled eggs, some form of turkey chunks or turkey bacon bits and dressed lightly with olive oil and lemon.
-
I watched the first episode of the second season of MAD MEN last night on Comcast HD On Demand.....everyone still looking good and many promising plot lines established.
-
That television program on Hidcote Manor's garden sounds great.
I was quite intrigued. A number of folks were on camera, most of whom work at Hidcote and have a solid grasp of the garden's history (the creation of ONE man -- an expatriate American!!!).

I haven't found any of them, either, but Amazon.com does have THIS DVD (http://www.amazon.com/Great-Gardens-England-Larkspur-Company/dp/B000LMHVBI/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1217346622&sr=1-3) and it features some of England's greatest gardens including Hidcote and the garden of Vita Sackville-West.

I've received a couple of shipping notices from Amazon.com today. This is the start of an oncoming onslaught of shipments of things pre-ordered months ago that are finally seeing light of day. Next month and September will be interesting.
And thanks to some unexplained delay, October yields a future delight -- the second Alice Faye box from Fox.
-
Also delayed until October: The standard DVD release of the newly mastered "How the West Was Won" (with the Cinerama seams removed).
I've read "speculation" that Warner Brothers may be planning on releasing the same "curved" HTWWW on standard DVD that has been announced for Blu-ray DVD (BVD).
The "curved" feature is said to replicate the look of the film as it was seen in Cinerama theaters.

I'm so excited: Got a call from a shipping company in San Francisco. A piece of furniture I ordered two weeks ago has arrived, and so I've scheduled the delivery for tomorrow.
Yay!
-
I'm taking Friday off: I have to renew my driver's license "in person", and have made an appointment that morning. And then I have an appointment with my doctor in the afternoon.
-
Color me amazed department: I got sick of looking at these piles of DVDs I have lying around that I'll never watch again, and I will not sell on eBay due to their insane new feedback policies (sellers can only leave positive feedback), so I decided to post on Craig's List last night, not holding out much hope. Within minutes I had several responses offering to get everything from me (which is a lot--probably over 100 DVDs). This morning I sold all of them for close to $500, much more than I would ever have gotten on eBay. I'm a happy camper.
-
Bruce, is there a possible Kevin/Sean CD in the future?
CD or DVD - we're not sure what we'll do, but we're going to try and do something by the end of October here in LA.
-
I slept late today - 9:45, which I guess I needed to do. And now I am up.
-
I forgot to mention in my thoughts about 711 Ocean Drive the most amusing thing - that address, I suppose, is supposed to represent where Eddie O'Brien lives at the beach. However, the address and house have nothing whatsoever to do with the plot of the film, and not only that you can clearly SEE the address of the house, which is five numbers, as it should be in Malibu. But movies with street names and addresses were very popular at the time, and I'm sure that's why they did it - the movie was probably called something else originally.
-
I was also intrigued by the movie 711 Ocean Drive....especially the Hoover Dam finale....

Have your meds kicked in?

Always sad to see classic cars rusting away in some field. I often wonder if my old 1963 Mercury Comet met that fate or if the person who bought it restored it to.
-
LOL! The UPS guy saw my boss getting on the elevator about 15 minutes ago and he asked her if she would sign for two packages for me and then give them to me.
I received the Tyrone Power Matinee Idol collection and the latest Stargate DVD -- "Stargate Continuum".
The Fox/Power set has 10 movies of varying "quality", but some are totally interesting to me, including "Johnny Apollo," "Café Metropole" and "This Above All."
-
Thanks for the link, DR JRand57! I love me some rhubarb! Especially when it is combined with strawberries! :)

Yes the sweetness of the strawberries counter acts - somewhat - the tartness of the rhubarb....you can also use oranges.....

Rhubarb pie must ALWAYS be served with ice cream.

I may not have chocolate pie.

Good afternoon. My presentation went very well. I don't know what the executive vice-president thought (she said thank you as she left) but apparently, the underlings (I include myself as an underling) liked it very much. I will talk to some of them later to get real opinions.
Mr. Morelli has but three days left in the New York area. He will be back in the city on Thursday and he will leave for Wisconsin on Friday morning. So far the weather looks great for a long drive (at least through New Jersey and Pennsylvania).

Especially missing them on Sherlock's birthday.
We took him to the dog park after Keith's doctor appointment (eyes are looking good) and then for a walk around town. He met up with loads of dogs today. :) No birthday cake. We will add some peanut butter to his frozen yogurt, applesauce, & banana bone.

Well, we just had an earthquake - some are saying it was mild, but it was sure a little more than mild out here in Studio City, where it lasted for at least ten to fifteen seconds - nothing fell, but it was a little nervewracking.

Hey, what's up with EZ Pass? You can go all the way from New York City to Illinois, EXCEPT FOR OHIO!
I guess Anthony will need some change to pay those Ohio Turnpike tolls.

Yes, I just heard the 5.8 thing, which is not insignificant - but no reports of damage or injury at all. Some are reporting phone service is down, but they're usually wrong about these things - it's usually people overloading the phone lines.

Back from a two-mile jog. The news is, of course, having a field day reporting absolutely nothing they couldn't say in five minutes. They'll keep this going all day and into the evening - I'm sure they're already calling it EARTHQUAKE: 2008! accompanied by dramatic music.

I began my afternoon completing THE CLOSER episode from Season 2 that I began last night. The actor who played Malik's father (the doctor) was very talented.
-
Then, I immediately began my review DVD for the day - Criterion's release of Guy Maddin's BRAND UPON THE BRAIN.
It's an experimental cinema surrealist piece, done as a silent movie with music, narration, and sound effects track. The Criterion disc offers the choice of 7 different narrators (Isabella Rossellini has two tracks - one of them recorded live in NYC before a theater audience watching the movie and reacting to it).
Like all such experiments (BLAIR WITCH, SKY CAPTAIN), it's interesting for about half its length and then unless you're completely engaged (which I wasn't with BLAIR WITCH but was with SKY CAPTAIN), loses its curiosity value and becomes a chore. I was ready for it to be over about 20 minutes before it was.

I always consider a day with no mail to be a good day -- no bills!

I like this sand sculpture.

That's pretty cool!
-
Glad to hear you're Ok, Bruce.
Yes! Very glad!
-
The disc also offers a variety of extras. There are two more experimental short films of the director done in the same silent with effects/music track style as the main feature. One a look at a famous Canadian castrato singer and the other a look at the Foley company who did the effects.
-
I'm in the middle of an interview/documentary with the director in which he describes how the film came to be made. (In Seattle with all local actors). It's a 50-minute documentary, so I still have a ways to go with it.
-
I stood at the intersection of 42nd Street and 5th Avenue for over 15 minutes waiting for a 104 bus, which should be arriving ever 7 minutes or so, according to the posted schedule. The 42 bus also runs part of the same 42nd Street route, and while I waited three damned 42 buses stopped. I don't know what the hell is the MTA's problem these days beyond gouging more money out of its passengers for really pathetic service.
I bussed up to 108th Street and dropped off the score, came back down, and now I have a bit of work to do on my BABES notes. I'm so glad this is my last jaunt to the main library branch.

DR Jennifer - did you see THIS (http://www.cbc.ca/arts/story/2008/07/29/simon-lee.html) news story? :o
Thanks for posting this link.
I knew he was absent from the show. And i had read something about it being about assault. But when i tried to look it up this morning i didn't find anything.

Am I understanding correctly that the house is thinking about flipping the vote to oust Jessie now, instead of Keesha's main target, Angie? I know Keesha would be upset, but it seems to me that maybe it would be best for Keesha. She can always make a pact with Angie, but I don't think Jessie would consider it.

Has anyone tried rhubarb cake?
http://southernfood.about.com/od/rhubarbrecipes/r/bl30427x.htm (http://southernfood.about.com/od/rhubarbrecipes/r/bl30427x.htm)
I've tried strawberry rhubarb type cakes. Not sure if they were pies or cakes. But they are always good. I love this combo!
-
DR Jennifer - "Whipped topping" is a processed food.
;)
Yep. I also sometimes eat kraft cheese slices!
If it is low in carbs and i like the taste then i make an exception!

Today at work, someone sent an e-mail with a link to THIS (http://features.csmonitor.com/books/2008/07/28/the-guernsey-literary-and-potato-peel-society/) article about the book "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0385340990?ie=UTF8&tag=thechristiasc-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=0385340990)," with the subject: A parting gift to all of us from Mary Ann Shaffer.
??? Parting gift?? Mary Ann was one of the three assistant directors here at the Service Center when I first started working here in 1984(!) and she and I became friends. The article mentions that she died earlier this year. WHAT?? I don't remember getting an e-mail about her dying! And certainly enough people still remembered/knew/kept in contact with her that SOMEONE would've sent an e-mail!
Well, it turns out that the author is a DIFFERENT Mary Ann Shaffer, who is ALSO a retired librarian! WHEW! And what a coinkydink! Anyway, the book has some very good comments from Amazon readers. Several people throughout the library district have sent follow-up e-mails saying that it is a good book and isn't it funny that there is another "Mary Ann Shaffer" who is (now, was) a retired librarian.
So, has anyone heard of/read this?
-
Well, I'm going to drop off-line and get some writing done. May check back in when I'm done or may just head on down and start the evening viewing.
(may) BBL.
-
...And that's all she wrote.
Well... That's all they sang. That's all I played.
For today.
*Tomorrow is comprised of agent submissions and appointments, and it looks like it will be a short(er) day. I should be able to go home before lunch!
-
And here's an observation or two today's auditions....
The word, "Seine", is pronounced "sehn", not like the word "sign. It has to rhyme with the word "men".
-I'm still laughing about that one on the inside five hours later. ;)
-
So...
If you're about to sing your song... In your tempo... Why do have to ask me for a "Tempo Check"? How would I know your tempo ahead of time?
???
-
Almost time to head home - bye for now!
-
And...
When I ask you what you normally like to hear for your intro, your response should not be, "Umm... Whatever you'd like play."
And then if I ask you - as a means of clarifying you answer - "Would you like me to play what's on the page?", the answer to that question should most definitely not be, "Well... Just whatever gives me my starting pitch."
:-\
-
I bussed up to 108th Street and dropped off the score
This seems like a perfect euphemistic image...to see Elmo running up to 108th Street, planting kisses on everyone in his path!
-
~~~~~SAFE AND SOUND VIBES TO THOSE OUT IN CALIFORNIA WHO MAY HAVE BEEN AFFECTED BY THE EARTHQUAKE~~~~~
*Which just happens to include the family of the lead casting director. We ended up taking a short break so that he could touch base with them. And while the other casting director was on the phone with his office, his assistant said, "OH! We're moving. It's an earthquake. Bye!" -And that's how we heard about the earthquake today.
-
DR elmore - I've always been meaning to ask... Do you prefer to take the bus rather than the subway? I know that the Lexington Ave. line may have been a block or two out of your way earlier today, but if I were you... Just wundrin'.
-
And the Eye Shadow Color for the day is: Pitchy Blue Delusional Desperation.
And now I'm going to head back home...
Laters...
And the Eye Shadow Color for the day is: Pitchy Blue Delusional Desperation.
Now, that's funny!! ;D
-
...The news is, of course, having a field day reporting absolutely nothing they couldn't say in five minutes. They'll keep this going all day and into the evening - I'm sure they're already calling it EARTHQUAKE: 2008! accompanied by dramatic music.
I'm trying to imagine a news report accompanied by non-dramatic music.
The best I can come up with is some of Ken Thorne's incidental music from A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, the movie version.
-
DR elmore - I've always been meaning to ask... Do you prefer to take the bus rather than the subway? I know that the Lexington Ave. line may have been a block or two out of your way earlier today, but if I were you... Just wundrin'.
I love the 104 bus, and at 1:15 it should be pretty light. It lets me off a block from my apartment, well today at 108th & Broadway, and if I took the Lexington bus, I'd probably have to transfer to a crosstown one at some point. There's no reason for a posted schedule that predicts the 104 bus every 7 minutes to take between 15 and 20 minutes for one to show up.
-
Even in NYC there are actors who think they only have to learn their lines, and not their meaning.
No wonder waiters get no respect.
So, has anyone heard of/read this?
Nope. I'm glad your friend is well. Have you given her a call to say so? ;)
-
The bus by my house comes once an hour.
There's no reason for a posted schedule that predicts the 104 bus every 7 minutes to take between 15 and 20 minutes for one to show up.
Maybe the bus ran over someone and had to stop while they cleaned up the mess.
-
I keep trying to e-mail some guy in New Dehli, and it keeps bouncing back.
-
So, has anyone heard of/read this?
Nope. I'm glad your friend is well. Have you given her a call to say so? ;)
No, but others have. She retired years ago and we didn't stay in touch.
-
I keep trying to e-mail some guy in New Dehli, and it keeps bouncing back.
Well, maybe that's a good thing. For him.
-
The bus by my house comes once an hour.
That must be comforting, in a way.
-
DR MattH - As you rewatch - or "first-watch" - various episodes of old (and older) TV programs, have you been able to notice how and if the selling of more commercial network time has affected the pacing of the scripts in order to accommodate the shortening (not Crisco) running times?
-
I'm off for a walk to the mailbox.
-
Time to start fixing dinner.
Spatchcocked roast chicken. Risotto. And snow peas.
There's gonna be some cilantro, lime, ginger, garlic, and carrot involved, too.
-
Take your camera, Jane! You might see something interesting.
-
I keep trying to e-mail some guy in New Dehli, and it keeps bouncing back.
That's a long way to go for a date, DR MBarnum. Can't you just drive down to the bus station?
-
Had a nice time putzing around downtown. Der Brucer parked himself at the local bookstore while I went exploring.
One of the nice things: the local Methodist church has been converted into a theater and a mall. Sounds appalling, but the Methodists had outgrown their building and were able to build a new one. Since the old church was so beautiful, stately and brick, it will now house a local theater group and a mall of small shops and a restaurant. The city council bent over backwards to make it happen, altering established ordinances. So, everyone wins.
One of the not-so-nice things: a restaurant that had tried to be the Big Thing folded over the winter, to be replaced by another restaurant. Only this one is combining Sushi and Latin flavors. Oi. And their posted prices are outlandish. Der B and I will not be trying their fare.
-
I spy JulieC40. How was your weekend? We want the details!
-
Hey, everyone! :) We are back from our trip to New York. Just got back today. I'll be sharing bits and pieces over the next few days. We were suppose to return Sunday night late but our Jet Blue flight was canceled and they were not going to be able to book a flight for us until this Friday! No sympathy, I'm sorry, or nothing! We got a refund and after "crying in our beers" (not really), went to United and was able to get a flight back today but had to spend an extra approx $450 or so in air fare and then 2 more nights at a hotel. Fortunately, AAA found us a hotel with a discount in the Soho/Lower Eastside area, not too far from Little Italy as well.
What a mess, huh? But our trip, all in all was fantastic (however, I did sprain my ankle 2 nights after we got there. Clumsy me!
-
A very Happy Birthday to dear Kevin. I will hug him when I am lucky enough to see him again. A truly sweet (and might I add, hunky) guy.
Todayt is also my mother's birthday. This is the first birthday I haven't been able to see her or talk to her. Since that is not a possibility in the world I inhabit, I shall drink a toast of orange juice in her honor. I know she's happy and healthy again not on this earth. :) Talking with Jeanette MacDonald and Beverly Sills, I hope.
{{{{Kerry}}}}
Hugs to you, Kerry, on your mom's birthday.
DR Jennifer - did you see THIS (http://www.cbc.ca/arts/story/2008/07/29/simon-lee.html) news story? :o
Mr. Lee apparently had different ideas on how to solve the problem!
-
Gonna go watch a little TV but will check in later....so good to be home though!
-
I'm still at work...involved in another "auction" that I dast not leave until I'm assured of winning two items that have only a few minutes remaining.
-
Go get 'em, DR Ron Pulliam!
Welcome home, DRs JulieC40 and PDXJane!
-
DR JulieC40 - Welcome home. And I'm soooo sorry to hear about your travel woes - and your ankle too. -I wonder if you happened to see bk in the JetBlue terminal on Sunday night since he was also dealing with the same travel woes. -Alas/however, he did make it out of there on Sunday night.
I at least you hope you were able to enjoy the nicer weather here in NYC the past two days. -And, hopefully, we'll all be able to meet up the next time you're in NYC.
*OH! Did you make it to Levain? ;)
-
I've received a couple of shipping notices from Amazon.com today. This is the start of an oncoming onslaught of shipments of things pre-ordered months ago that are finally seeing light of day. Next month and September will be interesting.
And thanks to some unexplained delay, October yields a future delight -- the second Alice Faye box from Fox.
How clever of Alice to have two!
-
This evening, I won:
-
And:
-
Pagina 8
-
The two items are called Italian photobustas...and they are largish lobby displays a bit larger than lobby cards. The TKAM photobusta is 18 3/4" X 26", and the Oklahoma! photobusta is 13" X 19".
I wanted these two very badly. And I stuck to my guns.
Amazingly, they didn't sell for nearly what I thought they would.
-
Happy Birthday to Kevin Spirtas.
-
Back from a two-mile jog. The news is, of course, having a field day reporting absolutely nothing they couldn't say in five minutes. They'll keep this going all day and into the evening - I'm sure they're already calling it EARTHQUAKE: 2008! accompanied by dramatic music.
They did over an hour of EARTHQUAKE 2008 on our TV stations, and we aren't even in California.
-
And I stuck to my guns.
Sound painful. Have you tried a solvent?
-
TOD:
Triple cream cheeses
Kettle cooked jalepeno potato chips
Macaroni and cheese
-
*OH! Did you make it to Levain?
Methinks she shall face the wrath of DR JMK if she did not!
-
I'm pooped...I'm going to bed.
Behave, y'all! :)
-
The disc also offers a variety of extras. There are two more experimental short films of the director done in the same silent with effects/music track style as the main feature. One a look at a famous Canadian castrato singer and the other a look at the Foley company who did the effects.
Is the Foley company an American company, Matt?
-
At one point some years ago, I had one of the biggest Eyetalian movie poster collections in the world - I probably had about two hundred photobustas, I had original country of origin posters on all the Fellini films, and a lot of Eyetalian material on American films, which was always preferable to the American material.
-
Welcome back, JulieC40!
-
Take your camera, Jane! You might see something interesting.
I still don't have a new one. The only "interesting" thing I saw were for sale leaflets, for the home above us, in the ditch. I would have picked them up except I didn't want to walk into the brush wearing shorts. I'm still red & itchy where something stung me way back on July 16th.
-
THIS WORD JUST IN FROM CALIFORNIA..............
Scientists have now confirmed that today's seismic event was not really an earthquake, but merely Raymond Burr rolling over in his grave!
What? If I was dead, I would have inserted my name into the story.
Ben, how are you ever going to manage without your hubby around for all that time?
I'll have to rely on the likes of Jose and Larry to keep me company and teach me about the underside of New York ;)
Well you certainly have the two best-qualified guys for THAT! ;D
I'm fond of much of the photobusta stuff I've seen. Problem is, it sells at high prices more often than not. I paid less for the TKAM photobusta than I did for the Oklahoma! one, believe it or not.
-
I still have some bustas left and even a couple of Eyetalian big posters.
-
I am now finishing the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. When that is done I will move on to the Annie E. Casey Foundation which will take a couple of weeks, especially since I will be in Minnesota from August 7th through the 10th
I feel like I'm listening to the credits on NPR ;D
-
Just got back from the mail place - waiting for me were the first two copies of Murder At The Grove - the hardcover and softcover. I must say, the dust jacket colors are always much truer on the hardcover - don't really know why. They look great, and I'll be placing my order tomorrow, which means I should have books in two to three weeks. Meanwhile, there are only ten left of the nifty bonus gift - I think those will go quickly as soon as the title is up at Kritzerland and I do my e-Blast.
-
There really is nothing like holding one's own book in one's hands.
-
Sounds great BK. After your airline headaches, that's something nice to come home to
Today was a pretty rough day, but I was able to make the points I need for my closing, something I love and am looking forward to. I'm sure I've missed things along the way, but I'm pretty comfortable. Tomorrow the state reads in the trial transcript of the medical examiner and they are done with their case. Then my client will testify we'll be done with evidence. I'm expecting to do closing statements on Thursday.
We're getting close to the end. So far so good.
-
DRs JulieC40 and PDXJane & pleased you made it home. I’m curious, did JetBlue make an attempt to get you on any other flights even if they weren’t non-stop? I’m very sorry about the extra expense, was that total or per flight? Either way-OUCH!
DR Julie, now that you are home try and rest your ankle well & keep it elevated.
HEALING VIBES!
-
My best friend came down from the lake to sit and watch all day today. It was great to have her there. We had lunch at the break and dinner before she left. I'm still not eating much, but I did eat today.
I hit a point in every trial when I can exhale. I'm there. I think we're ready for tomorrow, but I have to study the jury instructions and do a little research for tomorrow.
-
DR Cilla, it looks like a tough day.
VIBES TOMORROW!
-
My best friend came down from the lake to sit and watch all day today. It was great to have her there. We had lunch at the break and dinner before she left. I'm still not eating much, but I did eat today.
:D
-
It wasn't as bad as it looks. The first witness is wearing a Bob Marley T-Shirt. Can you imagine wearing that to testify in a murder trial that started as a drug deal?
-
Are the witnesses up for drug charges or anything else?
-
I ate Taco Bell - I've had a craving, and after checking out the calorie business online, eating their weird but oddly endearing crunchy tacos is very calorie-friendly - plus, I ran hard today. I've been doing a few things, including some Kritzerland business stuff, but I've tried to take it somewhat easy. Tomorrow, we're back in the swing of things, full-force.
-
'night!
BK, I hope you tell Kevin about his birthday wishes.
-
I sent him a link to the board - I'm sure he'll be looking in.
-
Well, no one can say we didn't get to page nine.
-
Will we never get to page ten?
-
I think I shall take a nice long walk - it's quite lovely out.
-
Nice posters RLP, congrasts on your wins.
-
I also received a couple of nice Ebay wins today....this nifty LP from India for sort of a Bollywood version of Creature from the Black Lagoon.....
DR MattH - As you rewatch - or "first-watch" - various episodes of old (and older) TV programs, have you been able to notice how and if the selling of more commercial network time has affected the pacing of the scripts in order to accommodate the shortening (not Crisco) running times?
The only thing I've noticed is how much longer it seems for me to get through one of the older boxes. The episodes there do seem a bit protracted, but perhaps I'm just used to the 41 minutes or so of today's dramas. The ones that are 54 minutes seem too long to me.
-
Is the Foley company an American company, Matt?
The company is called Footsteps, and I'm not sure if it's based in Seattle or is a Canadian company. Part of his contract in doing this film was he had to use local talent, but I'm not sure that included post production work.
-
I began my evening viewing by finishing up the other bonus features on the BRAND UPON THE BRAIN DVD. There was a deleted scene, the trailer, and the last half of the documentary on the making of the film.
An interesting experiment, but not one I'd want to revisit any time soon.
-
Next, I put in TOP GUN. I had the choice of watching the HD-DVD or the SD version which was part of the "I Love the 80s" promotion from Paramount.
Naturally I chose the HD version. Looks and sounds amazing (a TrueHD 5.1 soundtrack on the HD) even though the story is a cliched as they come and the love story totally unbelievable. No, I didn't buy the HD. It was given to me. Every time that sappy Oscar-winning ballad swelled up on the soundtrack, my eyes just rolled back in my head.
-
Next, I put in ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST. The new Blu-ray version of this film has just come out, but I had the original issue of the movie, and I'll bet I haven't watched it since the first time I watched it after purchasing it.
How shocked was I to see that it's a NONANAMORPHIC transfer! No way on earth I was going to watch the movie that way which it's available in anamorphic sDVD or Blu-ray formats. I'll just wait to get it on sale some time.
-
So, I put on THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH (1956). Looked better than I remembered it looking. Yes, there are some dirt specks that I hope will be dealt with once Universal ports these films over to Blu-ray. But it's more than acceptable looking for now. I watched about 35 minutes of the movie. I'll finish it tomorrow while I cook and eat lunch.
-
I skimmed through today's AS THE WORLD TURNS. No boys and not in the previews for tomorrow either.
-
And I ended my evening watching last night's rerun of THE BIG BANG THEORY. The Time Machine episode was funny, and what a fabulous replica of the original prop! I just loved looking at it, and it looked great in HD.
And I was glad he changed his mind about giving up his toys. I don't think I'd ever want to part with some of my favorite little momentos from younger days.
-
I think I shall take a nice long walk - it's quite lovely out.
Yesterday, it was sunny and warmish here in Olympia. Right now, it's raining. I didn't realize what it was going to be like and I wore my Birkenstocks to work.
At least, I like the rain...so that's a plus. ;)
-
MBarnum - you should make a nifty Bollywood dance DVD with numbers akin to the one I love on Gumnaam.
-
And now, I'm leaving work. I set my DVRs to record some stuff today (throughout the day) and I don't remember what any of it could be. We'll see when I get home.
Until later. :)
-
I'm heading down now to go to bed.
Good night!
-
Is the Jet Blue experience airline business as usual, or would other airlines have made more of an effort for their passengers?
-
Is the Jet Blue experience airline business as usual, or would other airlines have made more of an effort for their passengers?
It's all airlines. Alas, a big part of how and why JetBlue is able to offer lower fares, in general, is that they fly out of selected airports, and have a relatively limited number of flights (at least compared to other airlines). So, when a delay or cancellation happens in their daily operations, it really can affect them system-wide.
As for the customer service and compensation for cancelled flights, well, that seems to be the norm now too for all airlines - especially in these days of cut-back service and rising fuel and ticket costs.
It's just a coincidence that bk and DR JulieC40 were flying on JetBlue this past weekend out of the same airport under the same flying conditions.
*I had another friend who was flying Delta this past weekend. She was supposed to fly out Sunday afternoon too. They tried to get her on a flight out later that night - even from LGA or Newark - but nothing was available. She didn't fly out until Monday afternoon. And with the new "requirements" for offering hotel rooms and/or meals for the inconvenience, well... She didn't qualify for anything. :-\
-
*I'm guessing that JetBlue will send out their customary $25-off E-Certificate in a few days to bk and DR JulieC40. I'm pretty sure they still do that. I got one for my 45-minute delay a few months ago.
-
Well, I have a short day of auditions to play in the morning, so...
Goodnight.
