Well, you've read the notes, the notes were a public service, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home. They're off making a public service announcement that consists of one word: Moo.

And let me be the first with a few of my favorites:
C.Y. Lee - author of Flower Drum Song

-
Chicken Little.

Good ones so far - I knew you all would come up with good ones - I chose this very last minute, and knew it wasn't going to be that easy.
-

Had a three-hour nap this afternoon, so I won't be sleep-deprived for staying up this late.

Good morning, all! I'm feeling rather healthy today so I shall direct my steps to Toyland and begin the edits for Act II.
Well, I gather from an email this morning that the R&H Organization is indeed up for sale. I think it will become most likely a small company owned by some larger corporation. I don't know what that bodes for the future of my friends who work there or for me or any other people they contract for jobs, but that's not my concern.

I'm cathing up on yesterday's posts and Miss Karen asked who was going to win SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE.
IMO, it's not easy to tell, since it's the public voting. And someone can be popular but not be the best.

A key of example, is that to me the best dancer was will. But he already got voted out. My choice would be katee, followed by twitch, then joshua. I am not a fan of courtney. And was very unhappy she took 4th place over chelsie. Normally the guys are more popular. So i think joshua has a good chance. Although i haven't really looked at the popularity polls to see who is most popular. If i had to make a bet though i would say that courtney will come in 4th. And there is no chance she will win.

That's funny that DR Cillaliz decided to have corn on the cob for dinner. Because that is what i had!
And I agree with DR JulieC40 about IN PLAIN SIGHT. While i would not say it is must see tv for me. I think it got a lot better, and i actually enjoy it.

I think you'd have to consider who people would want to get the $20K. And most of the others are so objectionable.

Thanks DR George for answering my DOCTOR WHO question.
I actually have a bunch of episodes recording. I wish there was a tile or something at the beginning so i could at least watch the ones i have in order!

Monday morning greetings! Thank you, all, for the foot vibes that appeared since I signed off last night. It's fine, but, as DR Jane said, it was pretty scary.
I'm off today to have lunch and a visit with my friend Becky. I haven't seen her since, I think, March. She and her husband have been boating the intercoastal waterway and are back here in Ohio for a brief respite before continuing their journey.

What is bottled vitamin water?
Bottled vitamin water is water that has had vitamins added to it. Literally. The manufacturers of said waters claim that the vitamins are more easily absorbed into our bodies when they are already disolved in water. The manufacturers also add flavoring in some cases.
Why haven't i heard of it?
I dunno. Maybe the same manufacturers think Canadians haven't evolved beyond Kool-Aid.

Today I will be working on another Criterion review disc, a Japanese film called TWENTY-FOUR EYES which I've never seen. It's very long, so just watching the movie will take me a good portion of the afternoon.
I'll use some of the evening hours for the bonus features.

On TV tonight:
THE CLOSER!!!
THE MOLE
-
The third season of Doctor Who included the following episodes - in order:
Smith and Jones
The Shakespeare Code
Gridlock
Daleks in Manhattan / Evolution of the Daleks (two-part episode)
The Lazarus Experiment
42
Human Nature / The Family of Blood (two-part episode)
Blink
Utopia / The Sound of Drums / Last of the Time Lords (three-part season finale)
The stories sort of stand alone, and sort of don't.
Obviously, the two- and three-part stories should be viewed in order.
But the other stories work best when viewed in order, as well. Things happen in The Lazarus Experiment, for example, that tie in with later events. And everything ties in, eventually, with the season finale.

Speaking of Doctor Who, here's a nice little dust-up:
Freema Agyeman was a nobody who landed a teeny-tiny role on the second season finale of Doctor Who, as a girl who gets killed. Because she did so well, she then landed the major part of Martha Jones, medical student, who became the Doctor's companion for the third season.
Her character was then written into the spinoff series, Torchwood, for three episodes. And she was brought back for three episodes of the Doctor Who fourth season, as well as joining everybody for the fourth season two-part finale. Plus, she gave voice to Martha in the animated Doctor Who: The Infinite Quest (which will be released direct to DVD here in the US, by the way).
She is currently filming Little Dorrit as the character Tattycoram, and hosted a Proms concert featuring Murray Gold's music just last week.
Not bad for someone who was unknown just a couple of year ago.
And, to make things even better for her, she's going to play a prosecutor on the upcoming series Law & Order: London.
Problem is, her being on L&OL conflicts with her reprising her role of Martha for the third season of Torchwood. She won't be able to continue with the role that made her famous. Russel T. Davies and company are having to totally re-write the season's scripts, and reportedly are not happy with this turn of events.
That Doctor Who and Torchwood are BBC products, and L&OL is slated for rival network ITV, hasn't helped matters any. Some sources are saying that her defection to the other network led to the BBC having her character axed from Torchwood.
Of course, that sounds petty. No one would ever expect show business types to act like that, would they?

No lunch out with best friend John today. He's in San Diego this week, so I'm on my own for lunch today.
Heading down now to check the mail and see about finding something to eat.

Whew, a lot of C. L.s this morning...and all I can come up with is Cherylene Lee, the little actress who played the youngest daughter in FLOWER DRUM SONG (the movie) and who played Blossom (?) for a short time on BACHELOR FATHER.
-
....then a Pinter play and a piece of Mahler.
-
DRMBARNUM did your office mates ask for copies of Dorothy Provine's CD?
-
Well, I must shower and run to the post office and pick up a package from Pakistan...although maybe I will mow the lawn first...who knows...but I will leave you with these Bollywood words of advice...

-
Actually JRand, they are in the habit of not coming near my office when they detect any music playing...I don't understand it.
-
OH, and re: BB10....
I like Dan and was not at all surprised that he was chosen America's player...my buddies Ron, Patrick, and Jim all agreed as he is one of their favorites as well.
I like his low key style of playing...it was not what I expected of him, originally, but I think he learned early one that it was the best game play.
-
Carolyn Lee - child actress whose moniker at SAG caused another Carolyn Lee to change her name to Carol Lynley.
Had to do a little fact-checking on this one, responding to Barnum's post with a similar name.
Turns out that Carol Lynley's real name is Carole Ann Jones. Carolyn Lee was the name she used while modeling. But yes, the second change was due to the SAG conflict.
-
Well that settles THAT!
-
And, whilst checking Barnum's addition to our list, I came across another name from Flower Drum Song:
Ching Wah Lee. He played the Professor, his final credit at IMDB.
-
I hate it when a little error causes it to conk off....then you have to start all over again.
-
"The Little Error That Conked." That's the title of my next children's book.

Good morning, good day, how are you this beautiful day? I am up.
-
You people have been busy. I'm surprised we've had this many C.L.s and they're excellent.
Constant Lambert - Brit classical and film composer.
-
Charles Lanyer - film and TV actor
-
Christiane Legrand - Swingle Singer, and voice singer in The Umbrellas Of Cherbourg and The Young Girl Of Rochefort (if memory serves, she's the singing voice of Deneuve).
-
Cassie Levy - one of the Elphabas in Wicked, on one of the tours.
-
Captain Lightfoot - title character from the Rock Hudson movie.
-
Cristy Lane---country gospel singer.
I riffed off Cleo.
And speaking of riffing...there's a video dance instructor named Christy Lane:

Curt Lowens - film and TV actor for many years, playing many Germans - I did a book signing with him way back when promoting Benjamin Kritzer.

...there's a video dance instructor named Christy Lane:
And boy, is she versatile!
At least, judging by the poster. 8)

Time to get ready for work. I wanted to get to work early so that I could leave early...but I didn't. Oh, well.

There is no earthly reason why I should remember this.

Either that, or we forgot to shower.

I think Christy Lane and Lori Line should get together. A dynamic duo, indeed! :)

I don't remember anyone line dancing like that!
Of course, since most of the line dancing I watched was at gay country bars, and most guys don't throw their legs up in the air that way, exactly...
Oh, nevermind. ::)
-
As I suspected, my web designer just told me no way can she get this up tomorrow. She's beginning to really annoy me.

It is cloudy and gray today. Glory of glories! No sun!!!
DRLaura will take me to the store later (so I can eat healthy foods like a wole Angel food cake). Perhaps, there may be a delivery of floop too.
-
I decided to not mow my lawn today as it was going to cause me to have to go to the gas station to fill up the gas bucket so that I could put gas into the lawn mower, which is currently empty.
So I will fiinish my spaghetti western, instead.

I knew C.L. would be harder, but we can't be through yet, can we? I'll see if any more come to me whilst jogging.

If I'd known it was that easy to throw passengers out of the car, I would have been doing sudden sharp turns YEARS ago. I'd like to do one right now with a certain web designer.

It's stuck in there, too, and it had to air itself out.

My calendar says that today is "Picnic Day" in the Australian New Territories.
Why would they have "Picnic Day" in the middle of Winter? I ask you.

Maybe "Picnic" is a code word of some sort.

What is bottled vitamin water? Why haven't i heard of it?
There are a a couple of "vitamin waters" out on the market now. They're basically just vitamin-enhanced/fortified and flavored bottled waters.
However, there is a product line called VitaminWater that is produced by the same company that produces Smartwater and some other "healthy drinks". There area a couple varieties of VitaminWater, each with a different flavor and "function".
As for their nutritional value, well... The verdict is still out on them. There has been some talk about the amount of sugar in them lately, but they're not as "sweet" as sodas and some other "energy drinks". A full bottle has about 100 calories - all of which are from the sugar and sweeteners they use. Since a teaspoon of sugar contains 16 calories, a bottle of VitaminWater contains the equivalent of about 6 teaspoons of sugar. However, since some of those sugars are from fruit juice, well... And just as long as you don't drink bottles and bottles of it every day...*

vitaminwater (http://vitaminwater.com/)
*An 8 oz. cup of Orange Juice contains 100 calories too.
**A 12 oz. can of Coca-Cola - and most other sodas - contains 160 calories - 16(!) teaspoons of sugar (in the form of the bad-for-you high fructose corn syrup).

Thanks.
I printed out the list of the episodes. the thing is is there a way that i can tell which episode i'm viewing?
Because it is being reaired on a station that i had when it was free, then i didn't, and now i have again. So i have recorded like 7 of the shows, but not sure which are which.

Actually your saying which episodes were 2 parters gave me an idea. There were 2 times when they aired 2 hour episodes. So i'll assume that those are the 2 parters. And the ones before were most likely the episodes before those.

I am shocked--SHOCKED--that none of you has mentioned the great Brasilian guitarist and composer
CARLOS LYRA
(actually, not so shocked). ;)
-
I slept in until 9:45 this morning, virtually unheard of around the K manse. DS Betsy is staying home today, which will be fun.
May I just say that there is a certain type of person out there in review-reader land that: a) doesn't read clear written statements very carefully and then; b) insists on "correcting" "misinformation" that wasn't there to begin with. Just sayin'.
-
I'm sure they sell vitamin water here. I've just never noticed it.

I started watching this show that was on TLC in march, called I CAN MAKE YOU THIN.
It is actually quite interesting and is totally not a diet.
This guy has 4 rules and basically you eat when you are hungry, you eat what you want, you eat slowly and cautiously, and you stop as soon as you are full.
Most of the people he is helping are very overweight. So i could totally see them losing weight this way. But i wonder if it would still work if you only have 10 lbs to lose.
He also has this acupuncture technique to stop cravings, where you tap under your eye, your collarbone, the side of your hand, the top of your hand, and then you hum, and count (while still tapping your hand). And supposedly it stops your emotions from getting out of control!
-
Back from a two-and-a-half mile jog - I certainly didn't intend to do that, but it just happened. I did the Ventura Blvd. route - going one mile. I then turned back, but instead of going back exactly the same way, I stayed on Ventura Blvd. past Laurel Canyon, and it's a longer route going that way. Down to where the CPK is, then over the footbridge, then it's a REALLY long block up to my street - the equivalent of two normal blocks.
-
My Carlos was there at the beginning of the Bossa Nova, though he was always subsumed by the better known Jobim and Menescal, but US audiences may remember him for his "second career" with another Carlos--Santana.
-
Umm... Page 1? ???
Or are there two of them too?
No, you're right.
But BK (bad boy that he is) didn't identify why we should know Carl Laemmle. (He's not to be confused with the Laemmles of the theater chain - those are second cousins of his.)
-
Also, the episode name of each Doctor Who episode is shown right after the opening credits.
i'm going to check for this. It could be different cause we're watching on different stations. But boy would this help.
Thank you.

Well, technically at the end of the opening credits. And, in true Brit fashion, they also include the name of the writer. I like that about the Brits.

then over the footbridge
Did you say hello to Marion?

I've been told it's perfectly fine for me to tell you all about this December thing - it's a benefit for BC/EFA - Bacharach To The Future, a concert of Burt songs with as many A-listers as I can get. I'm directing the show, Kevin Spirtas is hosting (don't exactly know what that means yet), and Alex Rybeck is musical director. So far, we have several big soap opera people, plus Liz Callaway, Jason Graae, and Linda Purl, with feelers out to a bunch more people.

Hi everyone. Finally time to spend on HHW, hope all is well with everyone. We'll be checking in on a regular basis now. It's so wonderful to be back.

DR CILLA LIZ I thought maybe I had missed a post on the verdict!
Wow - is the delay a good sign or a bad sign.

Would you like for former Dear Friend Adair (joke) to get Burt to show up for you? Now that she's his best friend and all?
-
Good to see you back, DR Matthew! :)
-
with feelers out to a bunch more people.
Add Donny Osmond to the mix of Jason Graae and Kevin Spirtas, and I'll take out a loan to come!
-
My understanding is that the longer the jury is out, the more likely they are to think the defendant is not guilty.
-
Hello, everyone.
It's been one of those days. Marvelous Matt put the sealer on my new bathroom floor over the weekend, but I don't think he cleaned the floor adequately before he applied the sealer and it now looks permanently dirty. Oy! I think the sealer will have to be sanded off and reapplied. It's REALLY stinky, too. He's not gonna be happy, but I don't think I can live with it this way. That's been on my mind all day.
-
CL? CL? No, all I can think of is Cleo Laine and that's been mentioned.
-

I hope it doesn't mean that Marvelous Matt will be demoted to Mediocre Matt...
-
Marvelous Matt has lost one notch of Marvelousness?
-
DR CILLA LIZ I thought maybe I had missed a post on the verdict!
Wow - is the delay a good sign or a bad sign.
Who knows. I could venture a guess, but the truth is you never know what a jury is thinking, doing or talking about. So, it could be good and it could be not so good. Only time will tell. I just wish it was time!

Nothing exciting has happened since I was last here, so I won't bore with details. The DP and I did have a lovely week in Cancun, however. Looking forward, I begin rehearsals for Into the Woods tonight and also looming in the distance is the possibility of home-ownership or another apartment. Definitely a move in September, the busiest month of the year! That should bring up up to date!

Good Afternoon!
Errands accomplished, and now a bit of "chill time" before heading out for dinner.
DR elmore - Dinner plans?

DRs FJL and Jennifer - DR FJL, you didn't say anything bad about "I Can Make You Thin". You just made your usual piquant and droll(?) observations. Or something like that.

Is it possible that the sealer is supposed to look dirty? ;)

And, now... Presenting this month's Leading Men Column:
THE LEADING MEN: Keeling, Bell and Parlato (http://www.playbill.com/news/article/120080.html)
-
DR Matthew, it is nice to have you back. Good luck with your moving options.
-
Speaking of moving, DS Craig still needs a job so he can move, as well as feed the pets & the girlfriend.
-
REVOLT:
No Tough fatty beef. I mkis DRMusicGuy's coooking.

Does...

;)
-
Oh, boy, is it ever hot and humid! The hot air that rushed in when I opened the door to pick up the mail was just sickening. Ugh!
-
I began my afternoon by watching the rest of the Disney ATLANTIS. They certainly did give it a very strong Dolby Digital EX audio mix on the DVD, very powerful. The movie was not so great, but it did have some great voices. Besides Michael J. Fox and James Garner that I mentioned yesterday were also John Mahoney, Leonard Nimoy, Don Novello, David Ogden Steirs, Jim Varney.
-
Next, I watched TWENTY-FOUR EYES. It's the story of a teacher and her effect on her very first first grade class going from 1928 to 1946. A tearjerker in the same exact vein as GOODBYE, MR. CHIPS and GOOD MORNING, MISS DOVE. Yes, I was weeping constantly through the movie. Those of us who were teachers know at some point we do have an effect on the children who come through our doors, and stories like these just bring it home. Like the teacher in the movie, I was in the classroom long enough to teach two generations of family, see former students become teachers themselves, etc. So, the movie resonated very much for me.
-
I am still ever hopeful for some rain.
-
There are not many bonuses on this disc. There is an interview with a Japense film scholar about the effect the movie had on audiences and two trailers. That's all (well, except for the usual booklet Criterion includes in its sets.)
-
Good Afternoon!
Errands accomplished, and now a bit of "chill time" before heading out for dinner.
DR elmore - Dinner plans?
Not tonight, Jose. I'm sorry.
-
bk - Do you know the "Chris Busch" mentioned in this article?
Sill and Busch Will Be Meredith Willson in Sondheim Center's Banjo Boy (http://www.playbill.com/news/article/120053.html)
I thought I'd read Charles Busch was playing the elder Willson! I think this musical is a bad idea. Why wopuld you want to write a musical about a composer and have to live up (or down) to the original writer's abilities?
-
Then I skimmed through today's AS THE WORLD TURNS. No gay boys and not in the previews for tomorrow either.
-
I remember those! Danged if I can remember the pseudonym used by the authors of the series, though. (Yep, they were co-written.)
Nathan Aldyne!
-
I concluded my afternoon watching about 20 minutes of HOLLYWOOD REVUE OF 1929. Sadly, it's the same off center copy that the laserdisc was (I guess that's all that's left to us); a bit of picture information gets chopped off on the left. I may or may not watch more today. I'll make my DVD-R copy tomorrow.
-
Not tonight, Jose.
Headache?
;D
-
You people have been busy. I'm surprised we've had this many C.L.s and they're excellent.
Constant Lambert - Brit classical and film composer.
Very nice one, BK. Well done. I wracked my brain trying to remember film music C.L.s and Lambert never came up. After "Christopher Lambert", you'd think it might have "occurred" to me, but NO! :
-
DR Ronp, re: what you wrote last night about BIG BROTHER
and america's player.
I actually don't have a hard time believing that dan was chosen. Even my mom said that he was her guess :)
I think you'd have to consider who people would want to get the $20K. And most of the others are so objectionable.
Here is where we seem on different wavelengths. Dan is fine as a player covering his butt, but not as AP.
To me, he's as irritating as the one they forced on us last year. I hate that stupid little chuckle he uses each time he has an AP mission...he's so smarmy about it. Thank goodness it's only for the week.
I'd much rather see Renny or Ollie get $20K.
-
You may have noticed as soon as I posted that I wish there was a verdict, I disappeared, that's because there was a verdict.
He was charged with First Degree Murder which carries life without parole
First Degree Robbery which carries 25 years and
First Degree Kidnapping, which is life without parole.
They had 2 eye witnesses who testified they saw my client shoot him.
He was convicted of Willful Injury Causing Serious Injury - which carries a 10 year max
Willful injury causing bodily injury which carries a 5 year max and
Kidnapping in the third degree which carries a 10 year max
We Won.
-
Nathan Aldyne!
Yes-- they were lovers who wrote them together until they both died very young( most unfortunate). COBALT, VERMILLION, SLATE, CANARY
So great!
-
So, DR Cillaliz - Is this when the stenographer turned to you and said, "Was it because I'm a lesbian?"
<"Law & Order" sound effect>
;D
-
Nathan Aldyne was the pseudonym of Michael McDowell and Dennis Schuetz. McDowell was a novelist and screenwriter (Beetlejuice, The Nightmare Before Christmas) living in Boston. He died from complications from AIDS in 1999. Schuetz, also from Boston, died of complications from AIDS iin 1989. They also published two novels under another collaborative pseudonym, Axel Young.
-
Congrats Cillaliz! I guess the lesser of two evils (three times) is cause for celebration. Will your client serve the sentences concurrently or consecutively?
-
Way to go, Cilla.
And, BTW, I am back from a 4 mile plus walk to and from the local shoppes. It was hot and my feet hurt.
-
Congrats Cillaliz!
I'm off to the Mall (blech!) for a new iPhone and some new Crocs!
Later dayz...
-
DR Cillaliz, CONGRATULATIONS to you and to your client and his family. :)
-
Thanks everyone. FWIW, I really believe he didn't shoot the kid. The forensic evidence didn't match the stories of the witnesses, the trajectories were all wrong.
-
Congratulations, Cillaliz. Please keep us informed as the next phase happens.
-
bk - Do you know the "Chris Busch" mentioned in this article?
Sill and Busch Will Be Meredith Willson in Sondheim Center's Banjo Boy (http://www.playbill.com/news/article/120053.html)
I don't think I know him. Our very own Adam Cates is associate choreogrphing the show - it really sounds dreadful, I must say.
-
Congratulations, DR Cillaliz! Will there be news coverage for you to share with us?
-
Becky and I had lunch at Culver's, then shopped at T. J. Maxx and Target. It was great to see her and we may be able to get together again before she and her husband take off on the next leg of their boat excursion.
-
I had three chicken tenders from Gelson's for my food. Not enough for all day, so later I'll get something to snack on.
-
I know there are more C.L.s but I honestly didn't think we'd get this far.
-
I must write some now and then head back down to do additional viewing this evening.
WBBL.
-
Constable Locke - character from our favorite, The Music Man.
-
Congratulations, DR Cillaliz! Will there be news coverage for you to share with us?
Yes, as soon as they correct the websites that say he was convicted of the original charges. I called the stations and explained that he has family members that were getting their information by watching the web and that the mistake has really upset them. I've been assured they are fixing it.
The reporters covering the trial were all very young and I'm not sure any of them understand the law.
-
Go, Cilla. And then go directly to amazon.com :)
-
I'll get there BK. First I need to get out of the office and pick up a steak to make for a celebration dinner.
-
Excellent!

And does his last name begin with L?

I'm a bit concerned--I got my annual Social Security earnings benefit statement today and they do not have any record of my church Music Director salary last year, which is not an insignificant chunk o'change. I talked to my CPA, who told me that means the church did not report my FICA income, and I know that this is a pretty common form of embezzlement, so I'm hoping there's nothing nefarious and it's all just a harmless mistake. Otherwise, I might have uncovered the tip of an ugly iceberg.

I don't know if this one counts:
Curly Lambeau - who Lambeau Field was named for
I think his real first name was Ed or Earl, but he was known as Curly.
-
Cleo Lemon QB for Jacksonville
-
Cory Lidle - former pitcher
-
Not famous by any stretch, but a sweet lady who for years was in my Pacific Pops Choir, before her death a couple of years ago, and with a mellifluous name to boot:
Carmalita Lamoreaux
-
Curly Lambeau definitely counts. I should kick myself for not thinking of him,
-
Cariou Len
-
Christina Lind, Broadway chorus singer
-
Chris Long-Howie Long's son who just got drafted to the St. Louis Rams
Who cares about the son, when dad is practically perfect?
-
Connie Leslie, who danced in the original casts of two Rodgers & Hart shows.
-
bk - As for the new iPhone...
They "ran out" of the old iPhone too. In fact, there were periods of weeks where they did not have any to distribute or sell. You just happen to be in a "heavy need" area. -Although, so is NYC, and they haven't really seemed to run out of them yet since I keep seeing more and more of my friends with them over the past couple of days.
-
I decided to not mow my lawn today as it was going to cause me to have to go to the gas station to fill up the gas bucket so that I could put gas into the lawn mower, which is currently empty.
So I will fiinish my spaghetti western, instead.
The gas bucket?

Is tonight the season finale of THE MOLE?
I'm thinking it should be. But i haven't seen any ads saying it was the last show!
-
And as for DOCTOR WHO, i checked and the title does appear after the opening credits.
But guess what? The first episode i have is "rose" the very first episode from season 1. I thought they were starting with season 3 since they had a big display of episode summaries for that season. But i guess they are starting from the beginning.
So i have episodes 1-4 from season 1. And now i have started again at episode 4 of season 2. I guess they will just continue from there!

I guess I don't understand why, if this guy was already cast in TALE OF TWO CITIES, he would leave that show to play Danny in GREASE. I mean, TALE OF TWO CITIES could be the next RAGTIME, or it could be the next CIVIL WAR.

Any rain up your way, Miss Karen??
Yes, we got a good shower last night -- and a little tiny bit this afternoon (but again the bigger storms were east of us -- we have a creek that runs through our subdivision and until it starts running, I know we haven't had enough rain -- it has not been flowing any this summer, so...). Any down your way, DRLaura?

As promised, here's some of the news coverage
Cilla, is still doesn't sound like the reporter understood the difference between the crimes he was charged with versus what he was convicted on.
-
LOL. I love the interview. This is my favorite line:
"It is impossible to hold a medical degree from the University of Papaya as Papaya is not a country, you should never have to walk through a transmission shop to get to the clinic and avoid places that require a secret knock."
--Jocelyne Wildenstein, on plastic surgery
-
Any down your way, DRLaura?
Not a drop.
-
Anyway, congratulations Cilla.
-
Yikes!! :o Wish I hadn't looked at the Cat Lady link either!! I wonder what she sees when she looks in the mirror ... can't be what we see ...

Country western singer Chris LeDoux*

With that plastic surgery, maybe she shouldn't have opened the oven door.

Curse you, DR Macchus! (as she shakes her fist toward LA) -- I can't think of any CL names other than the ones you listed early am (guess I'll have to set the alarm OR stay up late to catch bk's initials posting each Monday morning so I can try to beat you guys to the punch ...) ... CL? ... hmmmm ... CL? ... Drawing a blank....

;D I warned you!

I guess I don't understand why, if this guy was already cast in TALE OF TWO CITIES, he would leave that show to play Danny in GREASE. I mean, TALE OF TWO CITIES could be the next RAGTIME, or it could be the next CIVIL WAR.
Perhaps he was not asked to go to Broadway after the asolo run of performances.
-
Perhaps he was not asked to go to Broadway after the asolo run of performances.
Well now, that would make sense.

Aaron Lazar of LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA is playing Darnay now. There were several TRIUMPH OF LOVE actors replaced before the Broadway opening, and none of them, I don't believe, knew they were being sacked for bigger names. It can be an ugly business when the powers-that-be are ugly.
-
Very tense THE CLOSER with some wonderful comedy moments. I am very curious to see next week's dynamics between several characters.
-
I'm just starting a motion picture on DVD. I had a little snack of sort of a chinese chicken salad but without the salad and noodles instead. From Gelson's, it wasn't all that good.
-
DRs Laura and Sandra were kind enough to get groceries for me. I'm having cake for dinner. DRSandra got lost in the store trying to find Ritz Crackers. The title of new book

Puttering on the Ritz?
Slap on the Ritz?
At My Ritz' End?
-
Cillaliz, are you going to continue immigration law? I know you enjoy criminal defense (and are very good at it).
Yes, that's the plan. I think I can have a nice balance with both criminal and immigration. I may change my mind but for now that's what I'm going to continue doing
-
Cilla, is still doesn't sound like the reporter understood the difference between the crimes he was charged with versus what he was convicted on.
Oh, they never get it completely right, but she was closer than a lot of others have been

Anyway, congratulations Cilla.
Thanks TCB! Thanks Jane! Thanks anyone I didn't thank

Is tonight the season finale of THE MOLE?
I'm thinking it should be. But i haven't seen any ads saying it was the last show!
No, I think the winner is declared next week, the Mole revealed, and then there's a recap of all the ways the Mole sabotaged the game during the season.
-
I finshed the bonus features on TWENTY_FOUR EYES. There really wasn't much there. Two brief trailers and a 19 minute video interview with a Japanese film historian about the career of the director.
-
Next I watched the rest of HOLLYWOOD REVUE of 1929. I know folks ate it up- back then seeing these big stars doing wacky, nutty things, but the stuff is definitely creaky now (still charming and worth having).
And one look at the basic set and dancers and you know exactly where Tommy Tune got his ideas for the staircase tap number and "Favorite Son" in THE WILL ROGERS FOLLIES.
-
DRs Laura and Sandra were kind enough to get groceries for me. I'm having cake for dinner. DRSandra got lost in the store trying to find Ritz Crackers. The title of new book
I thought the crackers would be next to the chips. They weren't. They were on the opposite side of the store, next to the toothpaste and stuff. And somehow, I got lost on the way over there.
Fascinating story, no?
-
THE CLOSER was definitely a dramatic sock in the stomach, and I can't wait to see where all this leads next week. Wow!

I concluded my evening by watching the first half hour of ANNE OF THE THOUSAND DAYS. When I got the set, I watched MARY QUEEN OF SCOTS immediately and never got around to ANNE. Tonight, I did. I'll be glad for it to replace the laserdisc of ANNE that I've had and watched for a long time.
-
Miss Karen,
You can shake your fist towards LA all you want.
I'm in Michigan.

My mother left her shoes on the coffee pot.
-
TOmorrow I'll continue with ANNE (may not finish it) and then watch another review disc from Logo, this one a lesbian drama called AFFINITY.
-
I'm expecting a couple of Disney Blu-rays for review in the next few days. I know that NIXON and that Miley Cyrus BEST OF BOTH WORLDS concert film are coming out this month.

Writing is done and posted, internet surfed, and now I'm ready for bed.

Good Evening!
Well... When I headed out earlier, I went to get some dinner. I also felt like heading down to the East Village again, so...
A slice of the artichoke pizza from Artichoke & Basille - YUMMY!!!!
And a cup of frozen yogurt from 16 Handles (they have 16 flavors) - Yum! And sort of interesting. And a little scary. Since the frozen yogurt is self-serve, there were a couple of people doing some sampling. With their fingers. :-\

" he had been working on playing Charles Darnay in rehearsals for the forthcoming A Tale of Two Cities musical..."
How do you work on playing Charles Darnay in rehearsals? Was he cast in the role? Was he understudying the role? Was he thinking of auditioning for the role? I don't understand the phrase, I guess.
I'm not sure of the exact time line, but I suspect that he was not asked to "come to Broadway" with the show. I noticed his name was conspicuously absent from the initial press releases for the Broadway run of the show. However, he still can be seen in the promo pics that are on display at the Hirshfeld.
As for the show itself, well... It's a true "first-timers" project, and some of the clips I've heard do sound a bit green. For better or worse.

I read Dr Laura's quote too quickly and thought it said "This is why we need a rabbi>"
-
And now it's changed again.
-
No, I think the winner is declared next week, the Mole revealed, and then there's a recap of all the ways the Mole sabotaged the game during the season.
I figured they would have a recap show next week (i like that). But i thought they would declare the winner tonight. I had checked on abc.com and there was no indiction about any of it.
But after watching the show you are right. The finale is next week. Or i guess you could say tonight was part 1 and next week is part 2. They should have totally done this as a 2 hour show on the same night.
-
DR vixmom - Whew! -And sleep well.

Sorry, FJL. The rabbit quote was up for a few days.

It was as inane as the one I saw the other day.
Cheese NEVER makes me smile or laugh. End of story.

I would avoid, like a plague, anyone who ate cheese and smiled broadly and then laughed.

If someone cut the cheese, I'd at least understand the laughter.
I might not be appreciative of the act, but I could relate to the humor.

Cutting the cheese can be very giggle-inducing for all ages. It's often a family activity.

I have no problem with the sales tax raise other than the extra money it brings in will be completely misused, just like they misuse what's there now.
As to the airlines, a bad day is coming for them - and then not only will they desperately and pathetically be trying to woo customers back, you'll see the lowest airfares in years and them giving away everything, drinks and food-wise. And it's coming sooner than you can possibly imagine. I haz spoken.

Well, for now, the ailines reaction is to dramatically reduce flights:
USA TODAY (http://m.usatoday.com/detail.jsp?key=874405&rc=blog_tr)
Los Angeles International is facing a big hit to its flight schedules as airlines cut flights and reduce capacity there in response to soaring fuel costs. The Daily Breeze of Torrance, Calif., writes the spike in fuel has "prompted the airlines to use smaller jets, cut routes and increase ticket prices, leading to a reduction of more than 1,900 weekly takeoffs and landings at LAX by late fall, according to scheduling data released Friday by Atlanta-based Innovata, one of two airline industry databases." That?s a 16.4% drop in flights when compared with the same period a year earlier, according to Innovata.
Before the airlines can beg customers to return, they have to be able to charge fares reflecting their real costs - they may have to ignore the vacation travellers and the "little guy" and stick with full fare business travel.
Unless the cost of fuel takes a dramatic drop (most unlikely), the days of cheap air fare are gone for good.

I just got back from seeing "Journey to the Center of the Earth 3-D" and it was definitely in 3-D. :D
Actually, it was pretty good. Not as many individual "adventures" as I would've thought, but then the movie is only about an hour and a half long, so what can you expect?
The best part of the movie? Brendan Fraser in 3-D. ;D
