There's a new Debra Messing series coming. I believe it's on USA.

59 degrees, Matt H? Some people here would be turning on the heat!
I was so pleased that it was only 82 when I went for my walk before sunup.
Thanks to everyone for the continued vibes - second night was great. The audience really has a good time, and when it starts raining, well they can hardly be contained!
DR TCB - any reviewer who thinks BYE BYE BIRDIE is a lightweight bubble gum musical should not be reviewing theatre. Then again, I didn't see the production.....
Now questioning whether this trip to Vegas on the 17th is worthwhile, with all the horror stories about the airlines.
Although I am looking forward to seeing Cher's mature-audience show, and I'm very curious about the Phantom spectacular.
Saturday morning greetings! It's a typically weird day at the library.
Please to enjoy:

DR MBarnum - And what about your favorite relatives? ;)
Buster and I have just shared a bowl of leftover mashed potatoes. I must now head in for work.
Hasta.
Time for to check Ebay...but before I go here is another
Bollywood subtitle to hopefully tickle your fancy.

Hmmm... Isn't that what DR elmore says each time you visit New York City and stay on his fire escape?
Good morning. My right shoulder is achy, I'm hoping it's how I slept, but I'm also worried that it could be a residual from the week of Into the Woods rehearsals. If that is the case, I'm going to insist on a masseuse be added to my contract (Yeah, like that is going to happen). 3 days off should help, I'm hoping.
Today, a few voice coaching sessions, a wedding, the normal Saturday evening Mass routine, and another viewing of The Drowsy Chaperone I'm taking the DP and his pal, Marc - who will be convinced (like many of us here) that he is the Man in the Chair.
I wrote a little number for cabaret singers after I MD's the west coast premiere of Putting It Together--I called it "Sondheim Hurts." ;D Thank your lucky stars you at least have some book scenes--by the end of PIT, I could barely move. There's only so much Getting Married Today I can handle. ;)

I don't ever want DR MBarnum dead, just to suffer.
Thanks so much, DR TCB. I called the doctor's office this morning for my test results and dosage and one of the doctors called me back himself. This medication is pretty tricky stuff.
Dog Bosco, Freddy the cat, sister Sue, brother Allen, cousin Molly, neice Katie.
We leave for southern Oregon next week.
Did you guess correctly last night?
..."Compassion Deficit Disorder" ...
Umm... You've obviously never played Into the Woods.
Where are you headed to?
Ummmm....guess again.
Well this is my third time! I'm also working with a challenging conductor who takes twice as long to get things done (communication skills from instrumentalist to vocalist is lacking) so we end up doing things over and over. So it's been 4 hour vocal rehearsals, constant playing, turning pages, turning pages BACK on demand, etc etc... I'm not complaining but it just seems excessive at the moment. Playing the show won't be a problem, except maybe on the one double Saturday. But the rehearsals are un-necessarily tedious, etc.
I've done 5 Joseph's, Miss Saigon, Evita, Aspects of Love.... all constant playing, but this is the first time I've felt anything physical.
Bernie Mac Dies at 50
Comedian-actor passed away early Saturday morning from complications due to pneumonia.
This is too young.
I have a stupid question. Remember that I don't watch tv news, so maybe I missed something.
Is there a reason we would care about John Edwards and his personal business? Is he running for office or something?
*Although, I may end up taking it easy today due to my left knee. It started to "hurt" yesterday morning. It's just a little sore - only when I touch it - right on top of my knee cap, but it only really hurts when I put weight on it - especially when I'm walking down a flight of stairs. So...
I've had this before, and it usually just goes away on its own. I can still walk around, I just can't walk at my usual pace. So, we'll see.
East of you this time--K Falls and Crater Lake.

Whatever! He wears shorts and he is cute. Right?
You know, DerBrucer, sometimes I'm glad I don't have a television. Correction: most times...
I'm guessing that if I discuss any live Olympic results that i should put spoiler space (since NBC does not seem to show anything live).
So if i'm just discussing in general i won't put space. But if i'm discussing a result (that probably won't have aired in the US) i will.
I found out something interesting. CBC is showing all their events live on the internet (there are numerous channels but the events can only be watched live).
I'm curious if this works in the US.

You know, I just loved Beauty and the Beast. But I really don't think I am interested in any other Disney musicals.

Apparently the opening of the Olympics caused much havoc with theater in LA - Alet told me that they had about six people in the audience last night.
Back from a lovelier then lovely family reunion...although about half the family was not there
We leave for southern Oregon next week. I bit the bullet and purchased a notebook computer yesterday so that I can stay in touch while we're gone. I think I got a pretty good deal--it's a nice Gateway, beautfilu blue color, with wireless built in and a webcam (not that I'll be using that, LOL). After the rebate and my gift card, I got it for about $400.JMK, Where will you be going in southern Oregon? Have fun!
What this? I return from a day of doing nothing, and we are only on Page Five. I shall be getting out the bitch-slapping machine, at least I will if elmore is still online!
Bring it on, Old Man!
;D ;D ;D
DearReaderLaura, I am glad you are enjoying the subtitles...and just because it made me laugh, here is another one.

MAHA CHOR (1976(
I love you, Tom!
Do you find these on the web?
DR Jane, brother Allen and family are all in Seattle this weekend for some type of a sports event or something, so they were not at the reunion.
I love the subtitles, I'd like to see more
Watermelon for a cold?
Yes, it loosens the congestion up & I really needed to do that. A few years back a doctor suggested I get some for a summer cold & it worked great. I also drink the juice left at the bottom of the bowl.
Thanks I will just cough instead.
Thanks for the link DR Julie C40. Maybe now next time someone has a cold & I suggest they eat watermelon (http://ezinearticles.com/?Watermelons:-A-Delicious-Way-To-A-Healthy-Lifestyle&id=455517) I won’t be ignored. ;)

It would have to be jello, DR TCB.
I received another lovely package of DVD delights from DR JRand! I am eager to see MAGNETIC MONSTER, which I have not seen since I was a mere child
The doctor is in:
Best guess is bursitis (House-maid's Knee).
Best OTC remedy Aleve (Naproxcen)
If you're fortunate, the bursitis will move to your mid-arm and you'll have "Tennis Elbow" - butcher than "House-Maid's Knee.
5¢ please!
The Office is closed.

Is there a lot of gravel by the reservoir?
I think I will have to get me the DVD of that movie above, cause the guy in the turban kind of sets my heart of fire.
I never discuss Bollywood with my family. It makes their eyes glaze over.
If anyone is interested you can hear a few of the songs from the new SHREK MUSICAL:
Build Me a Wall.
I could get used to this.
Big Bright Beautiful World.
I know it's today.

Thanks for posting this! I'm going to see it on Thursday! It'll be the very first preview night with the very first audience. ;D Of course, I'm way up in the nose-bleed section...literally! I'm three rows from the very back of the top balcony. :-\ But I got the whole 5th Avenue (http://www.5thavenue.org/) season for only $200, so I'm not complaining too much. :)
I'm pushing for a law prohibiting Sondheim revivals on Broadway for 10 years. no more animated movies turned into musicals, and the reversion of 42nd Street from a theme park to the den of whores, addicts, and dealers it was in 1979 when it was fun to walk down it.
I've decided that my feet and legs are REALLY sore from today's four-mile run.
Well... If you can, please send my love - and give them a big kiss too if you like - to Chris Sieber and Ryan Duncan for me! :)
Elmore, how about no movies at all turned into musicals for a good long while. I enjoyed Mirren's COUNTRY WIFE. Now I must see her CHANGELING with Stanley Baker. Last night, in honour of the late Simon Gray, I watched an old video of QUARTERMAINE'S TERMS. Edward fox breaks your heart in it.
I spent all evening with Miley Cyrus. First I watched the Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus concert film in regular high definition. It looked very nice. Like most concert films, they intercut the concert with backstage footage, rehearsal footage, and other glimpses of the "real folks" who make up these shows.
It was only 82 minutes, and though the music is definitely not my cup of tea, it was OK. At least it was REAL SINGING and not rapping or beatboxing.
Do you know if they plan to release that concert film in 3-D since it was presented that way in some theatres? -Or that may have been a different Hannah/Miley concert film. ???
See above post.
;D
You know, to me it doesn't seem so much that it should matter where as show originates from...a book, TV show, movie or something written specifically for stage...what matters is that it is entertaining and meaningful to the audience who pays to go and see it.
I also never do understand the criticism of movies based on TV shows or that are remakes....all that matters is if it is a good, enjoyable movie...at least to me.
Sounds like you had fun tonight at the show, and afterwards, DR Jose! Again it makes me miss NYC.

I love stories where Mormon missionaries are made into sex slaves.
:o TMI!
(What are trying to tell us, JMK?? ;))
Has anyone else read the hysterical story about that lady who had her dog cloned and how she turns out to be a nutcase who stalked a Mormon missionary and made him her sex slave decades ago? I love stories where Mormon missionaries are made into sex slaves.
Maybe the Olympics is playing havoc with people being on this here site.
I'm enjoying watching the Olympics. I know it's delayed, but as long as I don't know what the results are, it's fun to watch.
Ahhhhhhhh, no.

I recall some ground beef I had when I was at a London pub (and no euphemisms, really!). But that's a whole different kind of recollection - it was just smelly and gross.
Jose,
I ain't getting a dough from that FLY opera. Let's see, Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet and The Wedding Singer, hmmm? Classic drama; Adam Sandler comedy...How does that stack up? It used to be Broadway plays were adapted into movies, not the other way around.
The thing about The Fly opera is, how can they get away with NO credit? Unless it's because this time they don't have to worry about the pesky WGA defending the rights of the original screenwriter.
Would you also declare a ban on all further Shakespearean adaptations and re-imaginings? -As other plays, musicals, movies, tv shows... ?
Actually, most of Shakespeare's plots were not original; so, who should get credit for West Side Story?
der Brucer
*Now the one "adaptation" that does puzzle me are the novelizations of movies. I mean, did we really need the story of "Dreamgirls" in paperback? ;)

I just watched the women's 400 meter individual medley (swimming two laps each of the butterfly, back stroke, breast stroke and free style). The Chinese swimmer is wearing one of the "controversial" new Speedo suits but there was duct tape (or something like it) covering the Speedo logo. ;)
The suit didn't help her at all. She came in last. :-\
Coming soon - DREAMGIRLS - the comic book!
der Brucer
...And the men are wearing those new body suits too. The ones without the arms look too much like one-piece women's bathing suits to me. :-\
Did you see the picture of Michael Phelps in the new suit where he's totally nekkid under it...and you can tell?? :o

Click HERE (http://www.mokers.org/blog/archives/sports/speedo-more-is-less.php) for an article about it that has a link within the article to a picture.
Although, since everyone seems to thank God - or god - lately in their acceptance speeches, well....
;D
I wasn't comparing "Romeo & Juliet" and "The Wedding Singer"... Trust me on that one. However, there are some wonderful films out there that probably would make wonderful musicals if the proper writers and production team were in place. Dramas and comedies.
And as for "The Fly" - regardless of whether you're getting any dough or not - it was an adaptation of a film. As was the recent Jake Heggie opera, "Dead Man Walking" - which was inspired and adapted from a book/memoir and its film adaptation.
A good story is a good story. Source material is source material. Now as to whether or not that good story remains well-told and well-sung, well... that's the challenge.
Would you also declare a ban on all further Shakespearean adaptations and re-imaginings? -As other plays, musicals, movies, tv shows... ?
Well, even in a regular Speedo he would be "totally nekkid" under it.
*Remember Greg Louganis' white speedo during his last Olympics. I still remember the camera man having to adjust his shot each time he came out of the water.
Julie, I prefer to stick to my cocktail of choice. Cranberry juice with a splash of Diet 7-Up.

Jose, the operative phrase here is "a good story is a good story."
Huh?? What???? Where????
Jose, the operative phrase here is "a good story is a good story." I just think Broadway (and the movies, for that matter) could sometimes be a bit more selective in the stories they chose to adapt and re-imagine. The last thing I want to see is a Broadway musical of a movie I didn't want to see in the first place. Particularly when Broadway (and it's now getting to be the West End too) is overrun with mediocre musicals of mediocre movies and they are squeezing out all the straight plays and new work in general.
