Well, you've read the notes, the notes were off and they also ran, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently off and mooing. Slowly.

And the word of the day is: VULGATE!
-
Pssst.... Yesterday's topic is not closed yet.
-
Oh yes it is :)
-
Well, now it is. ;)
-
Hmmm... "Vulgate"... I think we may have had that one before... But I could also just be thinking back to my days in Catholic grade school and high school.

Any singer who pronounces "pacem" like "pachem" rather than "pockem" is a barbarian!

Ecclesiastical Latin (sometimes called Church Latin) is the Latin dialect as used in documents of the Roman Catholic Church and in its Latin liturgies. Though its pronunciation differs slightly from that of Classical Latin, it is not a distinct language or dialect, but only the Latin language used for ecclesiastical purposes, as the same language can be used also for commercial purposes, for purposes of invective, or recreation.

"It Ain't Necessarily So" sung here by Cher

Sorry, no video on that, just audio
But I wonder if she'll do that number in her warning-Vegas-content mature audience show

Sorry that the cbc olympics videos are only available in canada. I wasn' t sure but figured it was possible since i can't view most of the videos (except HouseCalls and clips on the US sites).
The cbc website is so interesting. They have every event that is on. But it's not like i'm used to watching it on tv. For instance right now they have the swimming. And they just show it one after another after another, without saying what is coming on next. It is much harder to follow!
Last night for the swimming i fell asleep right before it started. I was so tired. but luckily my tv saves the show on the channel it is currently on (as long as you don't switch the station). So when i woke up at 11pm, i just rewound and watched all the swimming i had just missed!
-
RE: the olympics and DR Cillaliz saying it was tape delayed and Der Brucer pointing out the time difference.
Does NBC actually show any events live? This has always been one of the reasons i've mostly viewed past olympics on CBC (that and that for this instance i like the canadian angle).
CBC shows almost every event live. No matter what time it is on (even if it is in the middle of the night. Doesn't NBC prefer to schedule their events to fit into prime time? Maybe they would show Michael and swimming around the time it is actually on. But otherwise i doubt it for most.
-
And although i'm sure nobody cares :) I am annoyed that i recorded the olympics in the middle of the night and the sychronized diving (really like this sport) that was supposed to be on was not even shown!

I've decided to put the Blu-ray of NIXON off until Tuesday, so today (and maybe tomorrow), I'll be working on the cartoon series WAYSIDE SCHOOL. I know nothing whatsoever about it except the original books were written by a Newbery-Award winning author. Kind of fun starting something new and different.

I do have TRANSFORMERS on HBO-HD and INTERVIEW WITH A VAMPIRE on Showtime-HD on the DVR along with Monday's THE MOLE which I still haven't watched. (Probably will while I eat lunch today).
I may interrupt my viewing of WAYSIDE SCHOOL today with one of those two HD movies. I'm particularly interested in INTERVIEW WITH A VAMPIRE and how it looks in HD since the Blu-ray is coming out this fall.

Well, yesterday went out to lunch with a friend at the Cheesecake Factory at Washington Square mall and then went to see the 3rd Mummy movie, which I actually really enjoyed! The only thing I really didn't like was that Rachel was not in the movie although Maria Bello did a fine job. I always hate when they have an actor that you know is not young enough to actually be the child of the main characters. The son is really only 12 years younger than Brendan. Odd, huh? I know why they do that but it seemed a little obvious to me. Okay, that's my critique...although I'm not a professional critiquer, I just play one in HHW land! :)

I'm enjoying watching the Olympics. I know it's delayed, but as long as I don't know what the results are, it's fun to watch.

Good morning, all! The laundry is down the street, I'm not going in to Toyland today, and I have a date with our DR Jose at 3:15 to see Skip Kennon's new one-act musical. I am looking forward to it.
Last night, DR CharlesEdwardPogue wrote:
Elmore, how about no movies at all turned into musicals for a good long while.
That's a hard one for me because I believe two things: 1. you should only musicalize something you think you can improve and most boobs pick something successful and screw it up and 2. THE PRODUCERS as a musical is better than the movie.
That said, YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN reflects my first thoughts: a perfect black and white comedy homage turned into a technicolor mess with a cast second-rate to its original. Why see it for $100+ when you can buy a decent copy of the original fim for $20 or so?
Last night, our DR Jose wrote:
Are there any sort of records regarding how the public - and the writers - felt back in the 17th, 18th and 19th Centuries felt about plays and stories being adapted into operas and scenas?
I mean... If Beaumarchais and Dumas and Shakespeare(!) had not allowed their stories and plays to be adapted, turned and transformed into operas, just think of the great works of Art we would have been deprived of. "The Barber of Seville", "The Marriage of Figaro", "Camille", "Romeo and Juliet", "A Midsummer Night's Dream", etc. were not "original" ideas when they were taken on by Mozart, Rossini, Puccini, Verdi, Britten and Bernstein (to name just a few).
Since copyright laws didn't exist, no one was protected. The author sold their rights to the publisher and made nothing after the sale. Both Beaumarchais comedies were turned into relatively faithful duplicates as opera, "Camille" was originally dramatized by its novelist and his play vwrsion is usually adapted into other media. I would guess that most of the plays - novels require heavier adaptation - turned into opera by Puccini, Verdi, and Britten remain close to their source; operas I can think of that greatly alter their source are CARMEN (from a novella) and TURANDOT (from a commedia dell'arte by Gozzi). In Prokofiev's ballet ROMEO & JULIET, they have to dance so there's no real balcony scene as there is in Gounod's adaptation.
Of course, there adaptations that go further afield: God knows what Shakespeare would have thought of Thomas' opera of HAMLET ending with Hamlet's being crowned King of Denmark or the 17th Century versions adapted to accommodate Cordelia's rescue and marriage to Edgar or a Purcell masque called THE FAIRY QUEEN. I suspect he'd feel similarly abused as Boccaccio, Chaucer, and Hollingshead most likely would have felt by what Shakespeare did to them.
I've seen some publicity on the operatic FLY and DR CharlesEdwardPogue is indeed mentioned in the publicity. I'm sorry he's not making anything on it, but I suppose it's cold comfort to know that Joseph Mankiewicz made nothing from APPLAUSE because ALL ABOUT EVE was owned by the studio.

DR elmore - First of all, you can get the original movie of "Young Frankenstein" for only $10.00 at Virgin since it always seems to be on sale.
As for copyrights not existing back then, well, that's a given. I'm just wondering if there are sort of public records in regards to how the writers and the public reacted to and thought of adaptations of one story from one medium to another. My impression has always been that the writers more or less expected it since any variation on their theme was a way for their work to reach other people. -Unlike today where a story, show, movie can be shared practically instantly with a click of a mouse.

Re: the health benefits of watermelon:
Watermelon is a great alkalinizer, one of the best. Most of us are too acidic. Meat, fish, dairy products, and sugar are all acid foods. Most fruit and veg are alkaline. Eating watermelon (or drinking the juice) is a very good way to move your body closer to the alkaline state.

Sardou liked the operatic version of TOSCA
Maeterlinck thought he wrote the music to Debussy's opera
All of Britten's operas are either based on Public domain material or by authors long dead like Lytton Strachey and Henry James
I don't know if Beaumarchais ever saw Paisiello's BARBER or Mozart's MARRIAGE, but he did write in BARBER OF SEVILLE "If a thing's not worth saying, you sing it."

Do you know about this statement?
" When taking N-acetyl cysteine it is recommended that two to three times as much Vitamin C be taken at the same time. Failure to do so may result in more harm than good from taking this product because of the prolonged presence of the oxidized form of L-Cysteine. Vitamin C also helps keep the glutathione that is produced from the Cysteine in its reduced form so that it can continue acting as an antioxidant."
Maybe one dose won't matter.

Paul Henderson, the park's chief of interpretation, said the arch succumbed to the forces of gravity and erosion. "They all let go after a while," he said. The entrada sandstone structure, here after the collapse, was more than 33 feet tall and 71 feet across.

Miss Dixie Bell cowers too when there is thunder and lightning. Usually, I will get down on the floor with her and play with her favorite toys and try to distract her with happy, positive words. Oh, good lord. There are a million other examples. The first that comes to mind is that Angela Lansbury was only 3 years older than Laurence Harvey who played her son in THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE.
If the actors are good and the story's engrossing, nobody cares. If you're noticing that instead of what's actually happening on the screen, then something is wrong some place.

I agree with you, DR Elmore. See my previous post written before I read DR Jeanne's comment.

I began my afternoon viewing by looking at the Showtime-HD version of INTERVIEW WITH A VAMPIRE. Looked really nice (even if the soundtrack was only Dolby Surround). Very detailed, but I only watched about 15 minutes or so of it. I was ready to eat lunch, and it's just a bit too bloody and gory to eat food while watching (at least for me).
-
So, I switched to last week's MAD MEN episode. A good one. Don is evolving! Wow!
-
Next I began watching WAYSIDE SCHOOL. I think the show is aiming for kids and adults rather like ROCKY AND BULLWINKLE used to do. Everyone's a nutcase in this schoolroom except for new student Todd who's constantly (but not on purpose) breaking rules and being sent home early on the kindergarten bus. The best episode I've seen thus far was when the kindergartners made him their king, and then everyone in his class got jealous that the tykes were showering him with attention.
-
Each of the episodes is made up of two 11-minute stories back-to-back. I had no trouble at all finishing the first disc this afternoon. I will do the second disc tonight. The time I have left over I'll finish watching INTERVIEW WITH A VAMPIRE and then, if there's time, tonight's LAW & ORDER: CI skipping through the commercials.
-
Pity. You actually sit in a theatre and ponder such things?
Actually, I spend a great deal of time while I am watching a movie, pondering whether the star's belly button is an innie or an outie. Fortunately, with most of the movies I watch, there is no time wasted worrying about that.
-
Today they had a fun day at one of the park's in my neighborhood. They had those big blow-up things you jump in. And train rides.
We took my niece for a picnic (she was thrilled because she got to eat chips and cupcakes). And she went on as many of the rides as she was comfortable doing. She liked the train, and painting. And there was a boat ride for little kids.
It was actually quite fun. There is also sand there and slides. So she did that too!
She wanted to go on the train for a second time. But they wouldn't let adults on this time. And she would not go alone (sitting beside 2 other kids), even though the train was going slow and i told her i would run beside it!

Well, it is day 3 of a really bad head cold & cough, one that must be gone in the next two days or sooner.

I feel bad no one is visiting her but I think it is best she stay very still so the sutures heal inside of her. She is sleeping most the time anyway.

Thank you DR Ginny. I'm hoping Keith doesn't catch this, and we don't need to go to L.A. Sometimes I wonder why everything happens at once & then I look at the upside, at least I didn't get sick during Keith's surgeries.
-
I am relieved to see that Jennifer has been posting today. When I heard about that huge explosion in Toronto, the first thing I thought of was Jennifer and Dan-in-Toronto. Unfortunately, I have no way to check up on Dan.
-
Wow! Today is my lucky day! First I get a notice that Microsoft and AOL are clebrating their anniverary (I didn't know they were dating) by awarding prizes to lucky individuals. My lucky ticket got me an award of 1,350,000 pounds, which I don't know the conversion rate, but I am sure is huge.
Then I have just received notice that the United Nations (of all people) has approved the disbursement to me of $8.3 million,
I guess my moon must be in Uranus!
-
Well, I guess I am just going to have to post even more inane comments than usual before BK gets home from rehearsal. Of course, I believe he is stopping at Genghis Cohen on his way home, so I am hopping that will temper his mood.
-
If not, this pathetic post total may drive him over the moon!
-
DR TCB, Dan in Toronto should be fine, at least his home. I'm presuming he was not near the plant.
-
I read somewhere that there was an explosion in Toronto I thus emailed Dan in Toronto. I think DR Jennifer is in Montreal.
-
Dan lives in a high Rise on the shore of Lake Ontario. From memory he and Gord don't even have a house plant. They should be fine.
-
I've just updated my virus protection so I should not catch DR Jane's head cold. I hope that your cold disappears very quickly DR Jane.
I wonder how that once upon a time DR from Pudgy Sound is getting along healthwise.

BK will not be happy if we don't get to page 5.

If I'm not drawn into a movie's world in the first thirty minutes I start to ponder the "Why?". Often it is because I can not "believe" the character (or their reactions etc) even though I can accept the world in which they live - even if it is Middle Earth etc.

I'm also curious.

DP Colin and I watched Uk TV movie "Perfect Day" last night. I could not believe in the characters for the most part. We won't be watching others in the series.

DerBrucer, I expected you to post this sooner & decided I should say something. I'm slow at posting as I'm typing with one hand while holding a kleenix over my face with the other.

Isaac Hayes has been found dead at age 65.
Good grief I am slow!

Didn't we used to have some people from Oz on this site?

Are any of you interested in the new complete 10 DVD release of The Duchess of Duke Street, the Masterpiece Theater series from the 70s?

Nope, but I am still curious as to WHY you are going to KF. ;D

Only if the postage were to be free DR JMK. LOL (But thank you for the offer)

My father is 102 today!

Well, I'm tipsy after two margaritas and Mexican food with our DR Jose. It was a nice surprise to encounter DR singdaw at the one-acts today. I liked three of them very much. The musical one-act was surprisingly short for a piece with a book by Terrence McNally but the music by Mr Skip Kennon, which to me possessed an underscore of elegiac sadness for the passage of time, was a model of melody, charming accompaniments, smart wit, and chic. The four performers in it were wonderful and just right. I would have liked a little more book, though.
I also liked two very funny one-acts, one of which about a psychiatrist and her client would have been a lovely revue sketch, and the other about people, cell phones and a suicide attempt that may have been too long but never stopped being surprising and outrageously funny. Both had wonderful casts.
I had major problems with the fourth, which I found mediocre with no surprises. I'd put it in that category of masturbatory actor pieces that have less to do with writing and more to do with attempts to give actors a broad range of emotions. I was bored and then surprised after all the talk of the bride's wealthy family to find her in a wedding dress so pitiful that it looked as though the bride had been mugged before arriving to the ceremony. After all the needless bits of nothing, she should have appeared so gorgeous that the idea of calling off a wedding was completely forgotten.
-
WOW! Good for your father, and a Happy Birthday to him. May you have inherited his longevity genes.
-
It bothers me in movies about the TITANIC if the screenwriters have Margaret "Molly" Tobin Brown arriving on the ship before Cherbourg. . .or if the other characters address her as "Molly."
One of the things I loved about TITANIC is how accurate it was. I started studying the history of the Titanic after I saw the movie the first time. The number of accurate details was incredible. Including that Margaret Brown got on the boat at Cherbourg. I do think they called her Molly, but they also included a clearly fictional love story, so I figure a little poetic license is ok
-
I think James Cameron was guilty of far worse discrepancies in his Titanic movie than those.
But he did get a lot right.
-
I could go for a margarita about now. Don't they filled with vitamin C?
We took Sherlock to the dog park today & then had lunch out. I only had two cups of tea while I enjoyed the sunshine, Keith ate lunch. When I told the waitress I have a cold she offered, more than once, to add brandy to my tea. As tempting as it sounded, I was sure I would fall fast asleep.
-
I think I may be catching a cold. Luckily I have a stash of Advil Cold and Sinus. I took one and that seems to be doing the trick for now.
-
I have been eating all weekend. I really shouldn't do that, but it's been fun. Mostly fresh veges from the market.
-
I"m watching Women's Synchro diving right now. Isn't this what DR Jennifer was looking for?
-
Oh! I love to see a handsome mariner on HHW!
-
But he did get a lot right.
The only two kudos I will give Mr. Cameron is
1) His attention to detail on the interiors of the ship, and
2) The shocking but very realistic final scenes showing the
death of nearly 1600 peopl must have been like.
Most of the Titanic films have avoided detailing that reality.
-
HAPPY NATAL DAY TO THE DF OF DR tomovoz!
-
Email reply from Dan. The explosion was the other side of the city. He and Gord are fine.
Thank to anyone who may have been concerned.
(as no doubt the Pudgy Sound guy would have been had he been on line)
-
Oh! I love to see a handsome mariner on HHW!
When did you say you would be traveling to New York, td? ;)
-
I will give Mr. Cameron a few more kudos:
1. Casting Gloria Stuart.
2. Filming the wreck on location.
3. The dissolve from Kate Winslet's eye into Gloria Stuart's.
4. The treatment of the third class.
I will NOT give Mr. Cameron kudos for twenty minutes of:
"Jack?"
"Rose?"
"Jack?!"
"Rose?!"
"JACK?!"
"ROSE?!"
-
When did you say you would be traveling to New York, td? ;)
I doubt that they'll be playing baseball in December! ;)

I would have taken something to head of this cold, if only I had known I was sick. I was feeling fantastic & thought the tender throat was due to the smoke.
I hope you stay well.

Nope, but I am still curious as to WHY you are going to KF. ;D
You are the second person today who's asked me that. Short answer: our timeshare has units there. Longer answer: we dilly-dallied so long planning this year that our options were limited and there were rooms down there, plus Betsy and the kids have never been to Crater Lake. The resort is supposed to be beautiful, with horses, hiking trails galore, biking, etc., so it's not like we're spending the week in "downtown" KF.
-
;D And do you expect to see me carrying Sherlock?
We still do not have a camera. I can assure you, even if we did, no one is taking a photo of me today!
-
...plus Betsy and the kids have never been to Crater Lake...
And there's the real truth - there are no sharks in Crater Lake!

Crater Lake is very nice. Have you done a search on the waterfalls in the area? You should be able to find a few nice ones to visit.
Is the resort in KF or Crater Lake? I spent the day visiting a resort with friends. They were considering purchasing property for when they retire. I insisted we drive through the town before returning home.

Wow, I'd catch for him any day!
-
I'm going to AAA tomorrow to get all the info. Years ago when I did Crater Lake and KF, I remember turning off of I5 somewhere by Salem and taking a little state highway that went by Silver Lake Falls or something like that. Maybe we'll do that this time, too. Betsy loves KF--she goes there on solar energy business quite a bit, and there right in the smack dab middle of downtown is a building named Semon Hall--Semon being Betsy's maiden name.
-
I searched through the photos of Sherlock as a puppy, and there isn't a single one of me holding him. ;D
I know I carried him, and I know there is one of me holding him at 4 weeks old, except only my hands are in the photo. We were doing close-ups of the puppies to compare them.
-
Wow, I'd catch for him any day!
And, please God, get DR MBarnum laid in the immediate future.
-
Happy Birthday to DR Tom's father!
-
I will give Mr. Cameron a few more kudos:
1. Casting Gloria Stuart.
2. Filming the wreck on location.
Although, I will give Cameron kudos for filming at the wreck, his Russian submersible pilots also ran into the side of the wreckage and almost destroyed the remainder of the bow section.
-
And, please God, get DR MBarnum laid in the immediate future.
You can't expect him to get laid in New York when you keep him locked out on the fire escape.

A Very Happy Birthday to Tomovoz's Father!! ;D
-
When I drove my friends through KF it looked nicer than I remembered.
There are some nice falls in Prospect but i think that is out of your way. I'm sure you will find other falls to visit. When you do please let me know where they are. Maybe our family can visit them next week when they are in KF.

My Father is reasonably well (He does have a slight head cold). He is still quite mobile and still jokes with the staff at his hostel. He is the oldest resident.
I've just telephoned. I shall visit him tomorrow and get him "on track" for a short while so that he can remember who I am. (and of course where the family fortune is buried). My youngest brother Chris (who is is finacial carer etc) is in Beijing - but not for 55 days.
-
The Pacific Northwest's (Puyallup) Megan Jendrick (Quann) didn't exactly set any world records in her 100 meter breaststroke event, but she did make it to the semi-finals. So far so good!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the DF of DR Tomovoz!!! :)
-
To the east of the Rogue Valley, lies the Cascade Mountain Range. This area features the upper Rogue River, Crater Lake National Park, Mount McLaughlin, spectacular waterfalls near Prospect and mountain lakes such as Diamond Lake and Lake of the Woods. On the other side of these mountains, lies Klamath Falls, home to farmers, ranchers and Native Americans. Klamath Falls features an Amtrak stop and a slice of the rural west as it has existed for a hundred years. Nearby are wildlife sanctuaries (migratory home to bald eagles) as well as the unearthly landscape of lava beds and well marked lava tube caves. To the east of Klamath Falls lies a high desert plateau stretching to Idaho punctuated by spectacular and remote sites - such as Hart Mountain, the Steens Mountains and Hell's Canyon.
-
Dr singdaw, it was great to see you today! You don't come in to the City to play enough.
-
Thank you DR's for the Birthday greetings. My father shall no doubt ask someone what year it is now and then calculate his age. His has short term memory issues but his mind is quite agile. He is still quite capable of completing crosswords.

Most of the Titanic films have avoided detailing that reality.
What I'm talking about are details, such as the photos that survive from a passenger who got off at Cherbourg of a man with a black top coat and his son playing with a top. It is that man's coat that Jack takes and the son is playing with the top just as he is in the photo.
Mr and Mrs. Strauss of Macy's fame died together because she refused to get off the Titanic. He shows them together in the end.
There are countless other little details from the survivor accounts that are in the movie. They are in the background, mind you, but they are there

Eileen Herlie, who played Laurence Olivier's mother in HAMLET, is 13 years younger than Olivier.

I had purchased two seats to Skip's show when they first became available online. My DH decided this afternoon not to accompany me. As it turned out, my two seats were immediately next to the seats purchased by DRs elmore3003 and JoseSPiano! Talk about coinky-dinks!!!! :D
I agree with DR elmore3003's assessment. Skip's music was particularly lovely, and well performed. Jonathan Kaplan, the little boy from Falsettos, has grown up into a lovely young man!

Thanks, DR elmore3003! Perhaps we can arrange a rendez vous once I've finished your little project!

The only thing I have to add to this discussion is that when we were traveling in our little camper, we broke down pulling into a camping spot at Crater Lake and had to be towed to Prospect for repairs. We are certain that Santa was out tow-truck driver -- I guess he needed a summer job.

Cilla, I am glad that you enjoyed TITANIC, and more importantly, I am glad that the film sparked your interest in the actual tragedy. It is a fascinating page out of history that has haunted me since I was a child.
For me, I prefer the British film A NIGHT TO REMEMBER or even the Clifton Webb / Barabara Stanwyck version to Mr. Cameron's version.

I understand the detractors of Cameron's version. I know there was a lot of it that was fake. I enjoyed the love story. I thought the middle chase through the water could have been cut way down, but I liked it. To each his own.

For me, I prefer the British film A NIGHT TO REMEMBER or even the Clifton Webb / Barabara Stanwyck version to Mr. Cameron's version.
I will ALWAYS prefer A NIGHT TO REMEMBER, because Walter Lord's book was my introduction to the Titanic. My grandmother read it aloud to me when I was a wee 'un. (My grandmother read many things aloud to me when she was my baby sitter, including the morning papers; I owe her my enjoyment of reading).
So, I've been fascinated with Titanic for quite some time and have one entire bookshelf lined with books on the subject, from the good to the bad to the ugly.
I celebrated big time when Robert Ballard's crew discovered the wreckage. Ballard is my contemporary hero, btw.
After Wednesday's adventure at the science center, I sat down and re-watched the A&E TITANIC on dvd; I'd love to go to Halifax someday and pay my respects to the departed. I've also placed "The Riddle of the TITANIC" on my bedstand for some quick reading before going to bed.
I'd still like to learn more about the other ships in the vicinity that night, not just The Californian, whose captain became one of the scapegoats in the disaster.
But, to get my dander rising, one only has to mention the name of Ismay. . .
Oh! I also watched the teevee movie starring Catherine Zeta-Jones for the first time. Nice cast includes George C. Scott, Tim Curry, Peter Gallagher and as Mrs. Brown, Marilu Henner.

Come to think of it, RMS Titanic gave us one place setting, and my travel agent purchased me a second place setting.

Now I had better get ready for bed.
'night!
-
The last time we went to Canada (3 years ago) the exchaneg rate was approx $1.50 CAN for each $1 US, I was just advised that this year we can expect to receive $0.90 CAN for $1 US
heck of job Georgie!

I am sorry I forgot about Skip's play, I would have liked to have come in to have seen that!
Break a leg vibes for the duration of the run!

She has also recently started wearing contacts.
She is suddenly looking very grownup
<sob>

And while we were at dinner tonight, I believe I may have taken a new avatar for DR elmore:

OOH! I like it!
-
She is lovely.

Lots of William Finn references today... including the title of the notes. Each time I look at the title it bring up "And They're Off" from A New Brain and now the mention of Jonathan Kaplan. Also, last night at our post show dinner, our pal Marc was talking about seeing A New Brain in an office space in SF. You can never have enough Finn.

...
Vixcousin (who was our 4 year old flower girl nearly 21 years ago) is getting married on Saturday. The Vixter is a bridesmaid
...
That is so-o-o-o sweet! Hope we'll see some photos. Have a great trip!
-
You're in Ashland? Me and my sis will be there Labor day weekend for the OSF! :)
That would be very nice. What plays do you have tickets to see?
-
Wow! That was fast - a lovely photo of The Vixter!
-
I seem to have that problem. I think my 2 hour nap late this morning may help
I wanted to read this afternoon and was afraid I would accidentally nap. I need to be very sleepy in order to sleep sitting up. I find if I slouch at all I begin coughing.
-
DR vixmom - Gorgeous dress. Beautiful daughter.
*And it looks like the sort of dress that she could use after the wedding too!
-
Here is a picture from the final fitting
WOW!
I want photos of you in your dress, in your new body. :D

Well, I managed to see more Olympics tonight that the previous 2, but can't stay awake any longer.

DR Jane, vibes for getting better very soon! It sounds like you had exactly what I had a few weeks back. It was not fun.

Oh my gosh, the Vixter is now a lady! And what a beauty!

He is adorable.

I spent a good deal of the evening on the telephone chatting with various friends. Didn't get nearly as much watched as I wanted, but it was good to catch up.
-
I did get the rest of the episodes (7 of them) watched on the WAYSIDE SCHOOL DVD set. There were some funny ones; the show is definitely one of those cartoon series like BULLWINKLE that can appeal to both children and adults, though it certainly lacks the satirical edge and in-jokes of ROCKY AND BULLWINKLE.
-
The discs offered no bonus features at all (I scoured the internet to find out that this series is produced in Canada). The package did include, however, a copy of the paperback book the series is based on: SIDEWAYS STORIES FROM WAYSIDE SCHOOL. It's the first in a series of three books by the author about these precocious youngsters and their flighty teachers.

I did continue watching INTERVIEW WITH A VAMPIRE, but I still have about an hour or so more to go. I cut everything off early so I could come upstairs and finish up with the review before it got too late.
I'll probably need to pull the INTERVIEW WITH A VAMPIRE DVD off the shelf in the next few days to see how much of a jump there is to the video quality from the DVD to this HD broadcast.
-
I may take tomorrow off and have a day just for me. I still have TRANSFORMERS on the DVR plus episodes of THE MOLE, L&O: CI, and tonight's MAD MEN to watch. Plus tomorrow night will bring another episode of THE CLOSER, so lots to see tomorrow.
Then I'll tackle the NIXON Blu-ray on Tuesday.
-
Whew! My eyelids suddenly got very heavy so I'm shutting everything down now and heading downstairs to bed.
Good night!
-
OK...
I really didn't get the sex appeal of Michael Phelps, but after tonight.... :)
*And that was a great relay!
-
Back from a very long rehearsal, some drama, and a great meal at Genghis Cohen.
-
I had to make a difficult decision today to replace one of our actors - someone I really like. Unfortunately, this person had too much on the plate - rehearsing another show, and just wasn't able to concentrate to the fullest. Plus, there was a lot to sing, and the performer just couldn't hear the pitches, or rhythms, and when you're working this fast you don't have time to drill it. So, someone new is coming in and will be having a trial by fire tomorrow. The person will arrive at my house at 12:30 and we'll go over the material, then two of our other actors will be coming over to walk stuff - the blocking part is pretty easy, and this person did take part in the last reading we did, and actually sang some of this material. I just sent the script, mp3s, and sheet music via e-mail. And, of course, there's nothing that really needs to be learned by heart except the tunes.

For the second time in a month, this credit card thing reared its ugly head - the restaurant made a mistake on the bill, voided out the first charge, and then charged anew. I should have put my foot down and said absolutely not, just charge the mistake amount separately. But they assured me they don't even put the charges through till midnight. I stupidly believed them, got home, checked paypal, and there they were, both charges. I called the restaurant and told them they had to fix this tonight, and if paypal needed a fax tomorrow morning, they had to do that.

Did you get a "Void" slip from the restaurant? If so, then it should drop off when they reconcile their accounts at the COB. I'm sure those charges that you're seeing on your account are "authorizations" and not charges. -Now, if you used your card as Debit card, well, that would be different.
-
*And, next time, pay in cash. ;)
-
Thank you for posting your photos of TITANIC treasures, TCB!
-
I did get a void slip - hopefully, it will be corrected after midnight tonight. If not, they said they'd do whatever's necessary tomorrow when they open.
-
That would be very nice. What plays do you have tickets to see?
I can't remember off the top of my head but next time you see me on here ask again and I'll find out. My sis is in charge of that department! :)
-
I gotta tell you.

Don't blame this Georgie! ;) And when Dubya got into office, gas was $1.35 a gallon. :P

Notes are written and will be up on time, and initials are now chosen.

What a great photograph.

I've been watching some of the Olympics. The 4x100m men's relay was pretty darned exciting! But it seems like it's all about keeping "Michael Phelps' dream alive" of winning eight gold medals in one Olympics.
-
I just realized that this post (Gratuitous Post #296) is post #296.
