Well, you've read the notes, you were jiggy with the notes, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - and they're jiggy with that.

And the word of the day is: NUGACITY!
-
Welcome twelve GUESTS.

I seem to be having trouble finding the notes - bk must want to avoid a purposely annoying post!

Well, if you're bargain hunting:
The former home of both Judy Garland and Sammy Davis Jr., above the Sunset Strip, offers expansive views. The home is listed for $4.995 million.

How are swimmers smashing so many Olympic records?
High-tech suits, new pool design and the inescapable doping question come to the forefront when so many marks are falling.
….
The new pools, which are deeper and now feature 10 lanes so the two outside lanes can remain empty, have also played a role because turbulence has been reduced. It's easier to swim fast in smooth water, and waves dissipate quickly into high-tech gutters. The pool in Beijing is also three meters deep, whereas most pools in previous Olympics were only two meters deep. That means a swimmer such as Phelps, who gets a turbo boost off the wall on his turns, can dive deeper and stay under water longer. According to his coach Bob Bowman, that helps him do his dolphin kick for a longer period of time, and helps him go faster.

Considering that in one relay 5 of the 8 teams beat the world's record, I would discount doping as a major factor.

OLYMPIC GYMNASTIC SPOILERS - FOR THE SLEEP CHALLENGED OLDSTERS
Strange how expectations influence reactions to outcomes:
The US Men's Olympic gymnastics team was all smiles when they earned a Bronze Medal; the US Women's gymnastic team was all tears when they earned only the Silver!

And the word of the day is: NUGACITY!
Which is defined as "something insignificant or inconsequential; a trifle."
This is not the same as NOUGATCITY, which would be "something yummy and found wrapped in chocolate; a truffle."

Of those films, for every film you really liked, underline the title. (That's the "U" button."
And, of the other films you've put in bold, for every film you genuinely didn't like, or that left you cold, cross out that title. (That's the "S" button.)
I'll post the list on the next post.

What is embarassing for me, regarding that list, is that there are a number of titles there that der B and I have in our DVD collection that I have never taken the time to sit down and watch all the way through.
I guess I've got some viewing to work on, at some point in the future.
But obviously not now. Not enough time to watch a film and also get ready for work this morning.

Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And I'm doing laundry.
-
Since the notes are not up, and since we therefor don't have a TOD, may I suggest the following:
This is actually something I stumbled across elsewhere on the web. The idea is to take a list that has been published somewhere, and see how well your own experiences match up with it.
In this case, we'll be working with Entertainment Weekly's list of the best 100 films of the last 25 years. This is not my list, it is theirs. Don't blame me for the list's contents, blame them.
In any case, copy the list, and then make the following adjustments to it:
For every film you have seen, put the film's title in bold. (Use the buttons for the YABBC tags, found in the "Post Reply" bar - in this case, use the "B" button).
Of those films, for every film you really liked, underline the title. (That's the "U" button."
And, of the other films you've put in bold, for every film you genuinely didn't like, or that left you cold, cross out that title. (That's the "S" button.)
I'll post the list on the next post.
Hmm...
Alas, in Safari - at least for me - the YABBC tags have to be entered manually, so...
I've seen a majority of the films on that list. In fact, I think there are maybe 10-15 films I have not seen.
Out of the ones I have seen, there are a few that I really did love, and not really anyone I did not care for at all.
*I'm also in the midst of getting ready to head down to DC in a few hours, so... If the WiFi on the bus is working properly, maybe I'll come up with a properly annotated list during the ride.

Good morning, all! My first assignment of the day is to find a notary public. My bank no longer has one in its employ and I've noticed that on Broadway between 79th and 86th there's not a single shingle stating "Notary Public Within." Damn! So, after the notary, I'm off to Toyland for libretto fixes and then a meeting at Frank Loesser Enterprises to speak with a gentleman about the score and materials for GUYS AND DOLLS.
DR Jose, since the singer hasn't yet paid me, it's very very doubtful that I'll be bussing to DC this week. I'm still quite pissed about the situation.
I've been sticking with the 1940s novel QUICKSILVER and learning more about the author, Fitzroy Davis. According to things I've Googled, much of the novel is based in fact and taken from the author's experiences in the Katharine Cornell tour of ROMEO AND JULIET. The book contains a very unflattering portrait of Miss Cornell - petty, cheap, manipulative, and a big dyke - and her revenge was to insure that Mr Davis never worked again as an actor. There's a scene in the middle of the book in which the Cornell character bitches out the assistant stage manager and the author makes a comment about the character's feelings turning from kindness to hatred, and I'm wondering if this is Fitzroy Davis' character.

In honor of Woody's joke above, I will attempt to visit the Golden Nougat Hotel when I'm in Vegas, since I think I'll have some time to explore the downtown area a little bit.

Did anyone tape last night's TCM broadcast of THE LEGEND OF LYLAH CLARE?
I didn't even know about it till this morning/

...And while my laundry is in the dryer, I should get my packing - very light - started, and clean off my desk too.

Good Morning, once again...
Well, I'm almost packed - just need to place my laptop in my small bag, so...
I'll see if I can post en route courtesy of the on-bus Wi-Fi... Otherwise, until I'm down in Virginia...

I got to the subway and became quite nauseous. I'm back home feeling very queasy and i'm not stepping out today.
On the positive side before whatever knocked me down at 86th Street I found a notary public and took care of my legal issues. Oy.

I meant to, but I was so overwhelmed by NIXON that it slipped my mind. It'll be on again soon. TCM seems to play it fairly regularly.

Good morning!
There was a nice, soft rain falling when I woke up this morning, and I would have loved to have stayed in bed, but I had much to do today, so I got up.
High today is ONLY 77, so I'll be able to leave everything open all day long! Hooray!

Today I'll be working on the 2-disc review copy of KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN.
I was VERY pleased to see this morning reading the contents of disc 2 that there is a bonus feature on the Broadway musical version with Hal Prince, Kander & Ebb, and others participating. Can't wait to see that!
-
I think I forgot to mention last night that I did skim through yesterday's AS THE WORLD TURNS. Nada. And nada in the previews for today, too.
-
At the airport sans laptop. I probably won't be posting much. It's still a bit difficult on the blackberry. Oh! Gotta go!

DR Elmore, please take care of yourself, and I hope you feel better very quickly!

It's an interview with the show's creator that reveals to us all the secrets will not get to find out next season (since there is no next season).
Thanks, DR Jennifer, for this link which I would never have read otherwise. I loved the show and feel it got unfairly treated (as does the creator). I don't understand why a DVD set hasn't been mounted for release. That BOMB version of THE BIONIC WOMAN that NO ONE liked already came out on DVD months ago.

Hope you feel better quickly.
I hope so! Much as I love staying about the apartment, I hate being confined to it.

Guess I'll head down now to check the mail and then start fixing lunch.

DR Elmore, please take care of yourself, and I hope you feel better very quickly!
Mikey! What a nice thing to say after all the crap I pile on you.
I don't understand these movie lists and I'm just feeling lousy enough to not not want to know what's going on with them.

Wednesday morning greetings! My day started with an early meeting at Panera. It was nice to see my volunteer administrator friends again.
I'm now in the office until 5pm - hope the Sudanese refugee doesn't come in a 3rd time asking me for a grant.

Tummy vibes to DR Elmore!

First off, let me just say that I am so bored of these stupid and pointless lists - as if they mean something, whether from the AFI or EW. What is the purpose of them? So they can do a TV special? I mean, it's just endless and ridiculous.
-
I cut and pasted the list into a reply, highlighted the title I wanted to bold, clicked on the bold button and it keeps bolding only the last title on the list. Tried through Safari, then AOL. Certainly I'm not entering those things by hand.
-
Good morning, once again... Again. ;)
Greetings from seat 27/28 on the 11:30 Bolt Bus down to DC!
-And I can already tell I'll be taking this again. Very clean. Very roomy. Very comfortable. And the onboard WiFi seems to be working quite well.
*And the driver just announced that they will soon be adding service to Raleigh, NC, and Richmond, VA(!!). -And with the continually rising gas and airline costs, well it will be nice to have this option.
-
DR elmore - I hope whatever you have passes quickly. One way or another. ;)
Thanks for the Travel Vibes.

DR MattH - Have read or heard anything about another DVD release of "Mary Poppins"? In Blu-Ray? Just wondrin'. ;)

Travel vibes for DR JOSE, and feel better vibes for DR ELMORE. I will get around to making that CD next week sometime, maybe that will cheer you up.
As for the Rory Calhoun info revealed yesterday, according to his ex-wife Lita Baron, the actress friend of DR MBARNUM's was in rather distinguished company....well I guess it was more like a corporation with lots of shareholders.

Hi, everyone, from beautiful (yes, beautiful, Jane ;) ) Klamath Falls. The Running Y is simply glorious. We had a largely uneventful trip down, with the exception of some roadwork right before we got to KF which delayed us for about a half hour. We have a huge beautiful condo, the kids are out of their minds with excitement and Betsy and I are very happy we decided to do this close to home adventure this year. I think we'll be going horseback riding later today. Oy. There were Jewish cowboys, as any historian will tell you. ;)

This is my younger brother Dan who lives in Medford. Dan was the bane of my existence for most of my life. We do get along now, but as a child, teenager, and young adult, he was the most disruptive force in our family.

Hmmmm... I wonder if this is what DR singdaw entered the other week?

This is one of my three older brothers, Jeff, and his wife Linda. They live in Tigard. Jeff has always been a swell big brother although he did not take Dan and I to the movies like big brother Allen used to.

Trying to work up the energy to jog. I think I'll do the same route as yesterday.

I shall look at those QUICKSILVER volumes, thanks for the link. 8)

Well, I hope the only agony reprise you have tonight is the one in Act Two.

My question for ASK BK day....
Most Paramount Pictures have the credit:
Process Photography by Farciot Edouart
Does this mean that he went out and photographed all of the background plates used in process photography....or did he photograph all of the scenes in a movie that used the back projection process even though another DP did the rest of the movie?
I don't notice the credit regularly on any other studio's product.
-
Sorry to hear that, DR MATTHEW....but that's shoe biteness.
-
DR Jose - Are we there yet?
Umm... Not yet. ;)
-
I watched THE ILLUSTRATED MAN - discussed here last week or so. I enjoyed it much more in WIDESCREEN than the only other time I saw it.
CBS used to have an 11:30 p.m. movie when it was basically give Johnny Carson the time slot. TIM was chopped up badly and Rod Steiger is just not a handsome man....and he seemed to be giving a Judd Frye performance....but last night, it was not as bad as I remembered.
Not my favorite Ray Bradbury book....but some interesting things.
-
I see a buddah in there!
Are you sure that wasn't one of DR Ben's relatives? ;)
-
Work the box office and then go backstage and star: you are Katharine Cornell!
Or the lady from A Perfect Crime. ;)

How do you CREATE 1000 jobs? Isn't a job about doing something that needs to be done? How do you CREATE 1000 jobs?
If your enterprise provides a new job opportunity that is then filled, you have created a job.
Net job creation (new jobs minus lost jobs) is a measure of an improving economy.
Many argue that the quality of the net jobs created is important. In recent times many areas have net job creation, but the lost jobs (manufacturing) were higher paying than the new ones (service industries) - the loss of highly paid manufacturing jobs has been an on going problem for the rust belt.

DRLaura took me to the doctor today, and my cast was removed!!! Hooray! It will be a month until I am supposed to put full weight on my ankle and not use the walker (but maybe still the boot), but this feels like such progress. DRLaura only ran me into the curb twice and one or two walls, so there's another area of progress!!!! :P ;D
A bath-- a real bath where I can get my entire body wet is next on the agenda. OH BOY!!!
-
DR Kerry - Enjoy the bubbles!! :)
-
DR Kerry - congratulations on having your cast removed! I know how much you're going to enjoy being able to bathe without having to keep your leg dry. Be careful, though!
-
So, where are we now, DR Jose?
-
I was just talking to my friend Ron on the phone. His father, Richard, passed away this last Sunday at age 89. Richard had been very active up till the last few weeks, still driving, working on the farm, helping out neighbors with projects, etc.
He fell and broke his arm about two months ago and the doctors then discovered he had bone cancer, lung cancer, and well, cancer all over. He went into a nursing home about 3 weeks ago.
Richard went to the Methodist church here in town, and has been a member of the church since 1919!!! Richard has spent his whole adult life working on church committees, helping with rummage sales, and buidling projects for the church, at least since the 1930s.
Ron told me today that neither the pastor nor anyone else from the church ever inquired about the fact that Richard had not been in attendance in the last couple of months...no calls, no letters, no visits, no nothing.
No one else in the family attended this church, however, they are all quite sad that nobody there made the slightest effort to see what was up with this long time member.
Oddly enough, when Ron was going through some of his dad's stuff, he came across a card that was mailed to Richard from the church back in the 1950s. He had missed a couple of Sunday's and the church mailed him this card to make sure all was well and that they missed him.
-
DR Kerry, very happy to hear the cast is off! Now don't break anything else!
-
Bath time!
-
DR Kerry, very happy to hear the cast is off! Now don't break anything else!
I'll do my best!!! Thanks for the garden pics. How perfectly lovely (especially compared to Phoenix in August!!!).
-
I'm sorry to hear about your friend's dad, MBarnum. It's a shame no one from the church called to inquire about him. Everyone must have thought it was someone else's responsibility.
-
Perhaps I can get some Mr. Bubble (do they still make that?). Does anyone remember SARDO?
-
So, where are we now, DR Jose?
Baltimore. Right on time, just one more hour to go.
-
DR MBarnum - sympathies to your friend on the loss of his father.
The church behavior sounds a lot like the behavior of the Methodist church where Richard and I were married (and his parents and grandparents and where Richard and Rob were baptized). When we stopped attending, NO ONE inquired as to why. Now we're Anglicans.
-
So wouldn't you have to create a new enterprise in order to create a job?
Correct - expansion counts.

Exactly right - he would go photograph on location and that photography would be used for the background plates, which he would supervise. He was really good at it, too.
-
Back from the long jog on the new route, which I'm quite enjoying. Not quite as easy as yesterday's (easy being relative), but I still got through it okay.

DR MBarumn, that is a beautiful quilt under handsome Cole. All the photos are great, & it is especially nice to see DD Bosco looking so content. The ones of Griffin sitting on Chloe are a riot.

DR JMK, I've been to the Running Y, it is beautiful there.
-
Currently, Accuweather.com shows that it is sunny in Phoenix. I guess I can't see the sun with all the CLOUDS in the way.
-
DR MattH - Have read or heard anything about another DVD release of "Mary Poppins"? In Blu-Ray? Just wondrin'. ;)
Unless an announcement happened late this morning or this afternoon, I've heard nothing about a Blu-ray version of MARY POPPINS. I'd welcome one with open arms, of course, but I know nothing.
-
The cool has indeed last all day so far. The houose is open to the cool air and fresh breezes, and it's just been SO nice. I wish our summers could be like this 95% of the time.
-
I began my afternoon viewing by watching SAVING GRACE from Monday night. I wish Bailey Chase and Kenneth Johnson weren't on this show becuase they're the ONLY reason I continue to occasionally record an episode.
I did get to see DR Edi's extended trailer for next week's THE CLOSER, and it does look dramatic! Can't wait.
-
Then, I watched KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN. Still a haunting movie, one that always leaves me feeling a bit forlorn.
The new DVD certainly looks better than the ancient VHS that I have of the film, but City Lights who's releasing didn't do any clean up on the master. It's got dirt specks and debris throughout though color and sharpness are very nice.
-
I watched the trailer (which isn't in anamoprhic).
Then, I restarted the movie. There is no audio commentary, but there is a trivia track that plays in subtitles. I got about 35 minutes into the movie the second time before I shut it off. I'll finish it later, and then go on to disc 2.
-
I also skimmed through today's AS THE WORLD TURNS. Nada. Previews = nada.
-
DearReaderLaura, you quote has made me laugh several times today!!!!
-
DR Laura passed her inspection yesterday. I'm not exactly sure what they inspected of hers, but apparently, it met their approval!
-
I bathed! My ankle, foot and leg are now as smooth as a baby (a very OLD baby, but still...). Apparently some of the layers of dead skin prove that dinosaurs roamed the earth about 800,000 years than previoulsy thought.
Despite a lot of scrubbing, the rest of me is still dry and wrinkly!
-
I indeed did pass the inspection yesterday, which should make the game warden happy.

I am glad you enjoyed your bath, Kerry. We all will enjoy your bath. Really.

I got three review items in the mail today, but the one of most interest was a box set (I was expecting NCIS - Season 5, this wasn't that!).
It was a PBS box set called THE PRESIDENTS. 35 hours! I will be working on this most of next week, it looks like.

Our landlord dropped off a letter this morning stating that our recent rent increase will be rescinded. However, that will be due to the fact that they will be installing new gas boilers and water heaters, as well as individual thermostats in each of the apartments. -Which, I'm guessing, means we'll be now be getting bills and paying for our own gas this coming winter (instead of it being included in our rent). -They're supposed to start the work this weekend, and it's supposed to last for three to four weeks. Hmm...

Thank you for asking DR Laura. I'm much better today. After my nightly dinner of soup, on this warm moist evening, I feel even better. If I could get rid of my cough I would be even happier.
I got a haircut today & for the first time in years I had it styled with bangs. Not a good idea, now my forehead it also hot. The bangs really look cute & are styled a little differently they I've had them before. I wish I had a camera cuz I might never get them to look this good again.

I've been asked to contribute to a biography that's being written about Bob Crane. The only problem is that until Shayne somehow found out I'd done an episode of the show (or someone found out), I think it was the only show I've ever shot that I have absolutely no memory of. When I was told I did it, the only things that came back to me were that I worked with a very good actor named James Sutorious, and that I think I remember that Jim Burrows was the director. I know I must have met Bob (apparently this was a three camera show, so we would have rehearsed for a week), and I have some vague memory of being on the set, but I must have had a very small part or something, or I think I'd remember more.
-
In fact, I've asked them to tell me the plot of the show, which I also don't remember - just to see if that brings back anything.
-
My evening break is over. I will likely not be back until after our guests leave, so don't worry if I'm absent for awhile.

OH! When I got into DC, I took the Metro to the Southwest Waterfront station on the Green Line. -It's the stop by Arena Stage - or, rather, what's currently left of Arena Stage right now as it's going through it's MAJOR renovation... WOW! -And I didn't realize that the Waterside Mall project finally got the go ahead. When I walked out of the subway station, all I saw was one HUGE open pit where a couple of building used to stand. Another WOW! -And I also got to see the new baseball stadium too. I guess it has been a while since I've been down there.
-
The plot thickens: I just went to the imdb to see if there was anything about the show - according to them I did two episodes, which I find doubtful. It was shot at CBS Radford, which I think I remember. Also, as soon as I read some of the cast names I remembered that they were in it - Will Seltzer and Todd Sussman, and Jack Fletcher and Ronny Graham - definitely remember all of them being in the episode or episodes I was in. It also says Harold Gould was in it, but him I don't remember working with and I think I would. Apparently I played someone named Herbie. I think I might mosey on over to my storage facility and see if I can find my box o' scripts - if I saw the script, that might jog my memory.
-
Also according to the imdb, someone named Norman S. Powell directed episodes. I have no idea who that might be - and I still think I remember Jim Burrows, but I might be confusing it with another show. I think you all know that I have a really REALLY good memory for just about everything in my past, so this is very unusual for me to be coming up blank.
-
The plot thickens, part two: I just googled the show - the plot certainly rings no bells. But I found a site that lists all thirteen episodes - and I was in only one - The Incredible Shrinking Bob, which I would have shot sometime either in late 1974 or early 1975 (the show aired in March, and I began filming Nudie Musical in early May). Also, another actor was in that episode, and her I remember very well, because we got along famously - Rothman knows her, too - Kay "Ding" Dingle.
Here's the synopsis of the episode -
Bob accompanies his friend Martin to the psychiatrist
but learns he's the one with the problems.
Isn't bringing back anything to me.
-
Jose - Is the Meridian House very fancy? (I'm going to a wedding there next month.)
-
Apparently, according to one site, Norman Powell was indeed the director, but me no believe.
-

I spent a large portion of the evening with the bonus material on KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN.
There is a making-of documentary that's almost two hours long. What a torturous history that movie had getting made, get cut, getting distributed.
-
[move=left,scroll,6,transparent,100%]9[/move]
-
There were three more documentaries on the disc, none nearly as long as that one.
The first was on the original author Manuel Puig. What an interesting man! (He died in 1990.)
-
Then there is the story of the Broadway musical including all the fiascos at Purchase with it. Prince, Kander, Ebb, McNally, and Rivera all were interviewed. Ebb said of all the shows he had done, SPIDER WOMAN was the one he was proudest of.
-
There was a photo gallery section with over 160 pics of everything from costume sketches to carpenters building the set.
Lots of trailers and excerpts from reviews of the time.
-
In the time I had left, I watched tonight's BONES episode from the DVR. A very entertaining episode, one of my favorites of the season, and an episode that had nothing whatsoever to do with Gormogon.
-
I'll have to catch up with PROJECT RUNWAY tomorrow.
