Well, you've read the notes, the notes had a little Saturday in them, as well as a little Sunday, and now it's time for you to post until the Saturday night cows come home on Sunday morning - as if.
-
And the word of the day is: PHILTER!
-
Well...speaking of "A Wizard of Earthsea" (and who wasn't ;)), the library system that I work for has a program that they call "Timberland Reads Together." Every year, they have an adult reading program where everyone in Timberland (who chooses to participate) reads the same book at the same time and this year, the book is "A Wizard of Earthsea (http://www.trlib.org/trlnews08/pr-trt-leguin-0608.htm)." Pretty cool, huh? :D
-
And now, it's time for bed...but before I go:
A Very Happy Birthday to S. Woody!! ;D

Today is international day here, where like 20 different countries each set up stands in the park and give plates of free food. Last year it was so delicious. Although it's a bit hard because they need to know how to keep their food hot on site!
I wonder if they will be serving breakfast (not) because i am starving.
I woke up early today to watch the Canadians in rowing! I guess because canada has always done well at rowing that i've gotten used to it. It's interesting to watch.
Yesterday we finally got our first medals: a gold, a silver and a bronze!
Tonight on tv: Big Brother
More Olympics
Happy Birthday to DR SWW.

Happy Birthday to DR SWW!!!

It is over....Singin' In the Rain has ended its COMPLETELY SOLD OUT run! We struck the set, cleaned the theatre from horn to hoof, and then had a party and talent show!
I got home at four ayem. It's crazy that all of the stuff you took to the theatre over the last five weeks has to come home in ONE trip.....
BUT I also brought home something extra....Shelly and I WON the talent show competition....so we now have a traveling trophy!
AND I will read the new book in a few hours, when I get up for real!
-
Happy happy birthday to Dear S. Woody White!
-
I most likely won't be posting or reading until Thursday morning.
But for the word of the day PHILTER, how about for a song of the day:
LOVE POTION NUMBER 9 - sung by the Searchers
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SHr1cOipH50
-
Do they sell Love Potion Number 9 at the World of Wisdom, I wonder?
-
Songs of the day for my Vegas trip will be:
If Ah Could Turn Back time
Gypsies Tramps and Thieves
Believe
-
And presumably I'll be humming the sets from Phantom: The Las Vegas Spectacular
-
I've lately been longing to hear Melanie sing "Brand New Key".
-
Did I just post that out loud?
-
Why am I up right now?
'Cause a skeeter buzzed my ear!
Damn! I hate skeeters.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DR S WOODY WHITE!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DRSWW!!!!!!
-
From today's notes:
This must be one of our big birthday months, so it’s time once again to put on our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons, it’s time to break out the cheese slices and the ham chunks, it’s time to dance the Hora or the Carioca, for today is the birthday of dear reader S. Woody White, who has been around these here parts from the very beginning, and even before that he was a regular reader of The Real A’s columns. So, let’s give a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer to our very own S. Woody White. On the count of three or the duke of four: One, two, three: A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO OUR VERY OWN S. WOODY WHITE!!!
Oh, gosh! Thank-you!

And now, it's time for bed...but before I go:

Der Brucer did indeed give me more DVDs of the classic Doctor Who stories: The Time Warrior, which features Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor and introduces Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith, and the box set "Beneath the Surface," which holds Doctor Who and the Silurians (awkward title, that), The Sea Devils (both from the Pertwee era), and Warriors of the Deep (featuring Peter Davison as the Fifth Doctor).
This should keep me busy for a while. :D
The only real problem is in storage - I've been keeping all the Doctor Who discs in story order, and the box set jumps around a bit, containing stories 52, 62, and 131. The only thing to do is take the keepboxes out of their box-set box (which is just paperboard, after all), but the cover illustration on the box is rather nice. I'll just have to figure out some place to store that, specially.
In any case, the discs are loaded with extras, which should be not as fluffy as they would be if the show were USA produced. The BBC Video crew has a good track record on making their bonus materials. (Oooh, here's one our esteemed BK would appreciate: a nine-minute Now and Then featurette about the location shooting, on the Silurian disc. He should get ahold of the people producing the discs like Adam-12 and bitch-slap them silly until they make similar featurettes for the discs he's watching - maybe they could get him to produce those featurettes, start a whole new phase of his career!)
-
The arrival of the discs also means it's time to re-organize our disc storage. It's been a few months, and our entire library is a bit out of order. It doesn't take der B and myself to use up the shelf-space around here!
-
It was a beautiful morning for a walk: shady, breezy, and almost (dare I say it?) cool at only 83 degrees.
-
A most happy and exciting birthday to our Dear S. Woody!
-
Good morning, all! I shall venture out today and see what work I can accomplish at Toyland.
I finished QUICKSILVER last night; it's only 600+ pages and I still feel ambivalent about it. There are a couple of wonderful scenes and a great portrait of an aging lesbian star who's egocentric, petty, and cheap - based on Kathrine Cornell - as well as a lot of "rah rah theatre!" I got over many many years ago. I must say, though, that the book pulls off the gay seduction of a young extra by a star based on, I believe, Orson Wells or Tyrone Power, that I thought was far from oblique for a 1942 popular novel. I also though the novelist was too too kind to the anti-semitic rich girl: he should have had her die under a bus or taxi.

Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And I have to say that I slept very well and sound last night. Must have been all that wine sampling and/or the Olympics. ;)
-
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DR S. WOODY WHITE!!!!!
-
As for Today's Topic Free-For-All...
Basically riffing on yesterday's Topic of the Day...
When, how, why, etc., did you know that you wanted to do what you did grow up to be and/or currently are doing - since the two might not be the same. ;)
*I'm sure there's a better way to phrase that question, but I'm still waiting for the coffee to kick in fully. ;)
-
It was a beautiful morning for a walk: shady, breezy, and almost (dare I say it?) cool at only 83 degrees.
I don't think it's quite 83 degrees here - but it may be - but I believe I shall be going for a walk too this morning. I've never been to St. John's Church - home of the Patrick Henry's "Give me liberty or give me death" speech - and since I'm not too far from there this morning, well... We shall see..
*Hmm... They are doing the weekly reenactment at 2:00 today.... Hmm....
-
DR DerBrucer - Hmm... I guess it is "scuppernong" wine. Who knew?
*Although, in my defense, Steve's father labels his bottles as "Scuppernog". ;)
-
I wanted to be a vet, until I found out that sometimes you have to put animals to sleep...

A very Happy Birthday to our very own SWW!

Well, time for me to head out for a bit of exploring.

And a belated Happy Birthday to our very own even more svelte Vixmom. Have fun at the wedding and send us pictures!

DR Jose, thank you for waving at Crozet for me! I enjoyed hearing about your day; I've been to several of those vineyards myself. I need to find a good excuse to get back up there---I love that part of the country!
-
DR Elmore must be feeling better. Hooray!
-
I've only seeing about 5 minutes of the Olympics, but it consisted of a camera trained to Michael Phelps' face, as though they were just waiting for him to burst into tears. Enough, already!
-
Have fun exploring, DR Jose! (Even though I've had to coffee yet, I was careful not to leave out the comma!)
-
A most happy and exciting birthday to our Dear S. Woody!
Thank-you, Dear Ben!
-
Good morning!
I was awakened from a very sound sleep by a HUGE thunderclap and the resultant rain. I did doze about 45 minutes more, but I'm not sure I ever really go back to a deep sleep.
I am enjoying once more this delicious morning coolness which I've gotten quite spoiled having these last few days. I fear this may be the last.

...I also though the novelist was too too kind to the anti-semitic rich girl: he should have had her die under a bus or taxi.
He was probably just trying to be realistic. If all the anti-semitic rich girls died under busses or taxis, the bus and taxi repairmen would be the neuveu riche from the bumper replacement costs, and then where would we all be?

I'll be finishing up the FDR disc today (2 more hours on it)
Then, I'll be heading right into the TRUMAN set which is also two discs.
If I get some time this evening, I'd like to watch a Blu-ray for fun, perhaps A CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER.
But it all depends on how the TRUMAN disc is set up.

If anyone dreams of becoming a grocery cashier, I've yet to meet one of them. It just made sense, given my enjoyment of the food world and that they were hiring at the local store three years ago. It's certainly worked for me!

Have you said what's next on your agenda?
-
Thank you all for the birthday greetings yesterday!
The wedding was wonderful and you will not believe its the same The Vixter when I get back to NY next week and post the pictures
She went out with her cousin, the Bride, to have her hair and makeup doena nd we did not see her again until we were at the church..
I know she's mine, but gosh, she was stunning....
The reception followed the British custom of havinga dinner and speechifying, speeches by fathers and mothers of Bride and Groom, Matrons of Honor (there were 2) Best Men (there were 2), siblings of the happy couple and anyone else who wanted to speak. The Vixter came up and gave a spontaneous speech tellinga story about how she and her cousin (who is 10 years older than her) were mistaken for mother and daughter several years ago and Vixcousin's indignation at the time that she could have been thought old enough to have a 8 year old daughter then she segued into her apprciation for havinbg sucha wonderful older cousin who cared and looked after her as if she wer a mother and segued into what a woindeful mother she is sure the Bride will be someday.... Vixdad, Vixgranny and Vixgrandad and I wer all beaming she did a much better job at with her spontaeous speech than many of the people 2 and 3 times her age who had written theirs down

Good day one and all...
Life is settling down -- somewhat!
I have been insanely busy as of late with work, love life and a other sundried activities. DBF just left for Utah yesterday afternoon after a visit of nearly a month. We took a trip up north and did some exploring through a few day trips.
Never knew there was a rest stop in Northern ND that was built like a fort...

The mosquitos here are terrible, plus I discovered a new yellow jacket nest. One stung me on the fingertip, but I shook him off before he got a good hold on me. Semi-ouch. Beside the usual dozens of mossquito bites, I was also stung by two "sweat bees". Not as bad as a real bee sting, but hurts much more than a mosquito bite.

Good morning, good day, how are you this beautiful day? I am up and trying to shake off that sleepy feeling. That Sleepy Feeling - that's the title of my next novel.

Ouch is right! I've only been biten by a bee once and hope to keep it that way. As for the skeeters, I don't recall seeing this many before.
Anti-sting vibes to Amy.

I really do need to revisit the decluttering aspect of my life soon. Such excitement! Somehow it's easier to do it on a cold winter day.
-
SWW, I had heard from my freind CAssie that BBC had some nice features on the Classic Doctor Who eppies. She really liked Time Warrior. It is on my "to see' list.
-
Edi, bee stings hurt! I have been stung a couple of times.
This year has not been too bad for mosquitoes. In the past we have had a lot of problems with them especially after a really heavy rainfall or if we get a strong east wind.
-

I agree....
I may head out to a local pioneer village for something to do. I hate being indoors when it is nice.

Today was "The Blessing of the Animals" at our church, so I leashed Dixie Bell up, got her into the car and took her to an outdoor service.
We ran and ran through the adjoining cemetery with Miss Dixie only taking two little lay-me-downs to regroup her thoughts.
Only one other dog was there, Moses a gorgeous basset hound, who took a liking to Dixie; the feeling was mutual. (Thank goodness).
Once the blessing began, Dixie sat next to the keyboard and behaved beautifully.
The twenty or so parishoners all came over to Dixie at the end of the service and complimented her.
Now Dixie Bell is completely worn out and my sweat glands are still working overtime.

While DBF was here, we went and saw the movie Mamma Mia. Granted Pierce Brosnan's singing talents aside, it is a fun movie and perfect for summer.
It was a fun movie. I really liked the actress who played Sophie. Julie Walters was a hoot! Her and Christine Baranski are fun to watch.

Obviously, you've never heard Joe Cocker, Tom Waits or Van Morrison sing. . . . ;)
-
The local independent theatre has been playing classic movies all summer. DBF and I managed to see two of them. We saw American Graffiti and Breakfast at Tiffany's. I draw the line at Caddyshack being classic...
DBF really enjoyed Breakfast at Tiffany's. Audrey Hepburn is an incredible actress and it was a real treat to watch that movie on the big screen.
However, we missed seeing Double Indemnity! Darn!
-
Obviously, you've never heard Joe Cocker, Tom Waits or Van Morrison sing. . . . ;)
OH yes, i have ... and Pierce is a better actor!
I do like a couple of songs by Van but not a huge fan. I am not a Tom Waits fan.... Cocker I can handle in small doses

I probably should take a day off from jogging one of these days - but I don't think today is the day, and, you know, I've become a little obsessive about it. But my back (lower back especially) is very sore from these long runs - we shall see.

I remember Pierce Brosnan on Remington Steele...

DR Elmore must be feeling better. Hooray!
I am feeling better today, thank you, all! I'm still pondering an appointment with my HMO. Just in case.
-
Well, I just popped in to say 'Hi" and "Bye." This Wednesday is my dad's 70th birthday(!) and I'm going to my sister's house right now so that we can figure out what we're going to do. We should've thought about this earlier, but oh, well. Have a good day, all!
-
We're STILL on page four?

~~~Continued Feel Better Vibes for DR Elmore!!~~~
Back from the long jog on a brand new route - west instead of east. It sure seems like a longer route but that may be because there are several more major intersections in that direction along with several minor ones. The other route has only two major intersections and no minor ones. I didn't think I was going to finish, but I did.
Nice reviews of the new book. Jrand, you said your review was up, "for what it's worth." Good grief, I thought I was reading the New Yorker.
How can people read a book that quickly. I am still enjoying the signature on the title page.
-
LOL......once the local public library allowed you to take out 8 books at a time, I learned to read VERY quickly....and have done so since age 10!
-
Very nice review, Jrand. I will only say about the danger aspect that it's almost the same as the first book, although in this one she does have one incident in the park that's a little scary - at least it was to me when I was writing it.
-
You didn't put a SPOILER before saying Colonel Mustard didn't do it :)
-
LOL.....
Yes the park incident is tingling.
Most of Adriana's exploits in the new book took place in daylight.....I like her out exploring at NIGHT....LOL
Hard to say why you want a character you like to be in peril....but it makes you wonder how she will get out of the situation.
Hope you sell LOTS of books! Will there be a reading for this one?
-
Yes, will be doing the signing reading in late September or early October. She's fifteen - can't have her out too late at night :) - although I did have fun writing the sequence at the club on Las Palmas.
-
LOL....the strangling hurt my neck.
-
Good Afternoon!
I'm back from wandering around Richmond's historic Church Hill District. And while I was wandering around, I managed to pay a visit to my friend, Mike, whom I haven't seen in about a year. It was good to catch up with him, although, a little said to find out that he had to put down his cat - who he had for 15 years! - a few months ago. It was a bit strange sitting on his back porch without Pussy - yes, that's what he named her - rubbing up against my leg and gently asking for attention every few minutes.
-
Where in tarnation IS everyone?
-
Well, it's a beautiful day in the neighborhood and I've been out taking advantage of it. The weather has been gorgeous. It may change tomorrow and later in the week with rain but it's too nice to stay indoors today.
-
It's actually quite a nice day here, too.
And I did indeed attend the re-enactment of the Second Virginia Convention of March 1775 at Historic St. John's Church (http://www.historicstjohnschurch.org/).
What could have easily come off as something hokey and overtly dramatic, turned out to be quite passionate, and at times very moving. "We" sat in the pew of the church as Members of the Convention, and some of the actors were also seated in the pews. The Convention was called to order, voices were raised, delegates were recognized, and we were all encouraged to respond "Aye!" or "Nay!" to the resolutions put forth.
They start the program off with an organ recital, which includes a sing-along of the various Armed Forces Hymns in honor of veterans past and present. As each theme was played, members - active duty and retired - of the Coast Guard, Army, Marine Corps, Air Force and Navy were asked to stand up to be recognized and honored.
And right before we all started to sing "God Bless America", there was a moment of silence in honor of the most recent members of the US Armed Forces who had given their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan. They were both 22. Needless to say, there were more than a few people trying to sing through the ensuing tears, myself included.
DR elmore - I highly suggest putting some sort of "ADULT MATERIAL WARNING" on the link. Yes, I could have guessed it was an Adult site by the title of the site, but I didn't realize it was that adult.
*Or I guess that this post could be the warning if you haven't clicked on the link yet.
-
It has stayed mostly overcast today, so even though I closed up the house at noon and cut the A/C back on to automatic, it hasn't clicked on yet. I don't think we'll get to the 86 they said we'd get to today.
-
Ouch is right! I've only been biten by a bee once and hope to keep it that way. As for the skeeters, I don't recall seeing this many before.
Anti-sting vibes to Amy.
When I was eight or nine, my family live in Gales Ferry, Connecticut. I still remember how one of the boy's down the street - I think his name was Andy - and I would sometimes catch bees - usually with the aid of an un-rinsed tuna fish can - and then proceed to pull out their stingers with our fingers. Yes, we did get stung a few times, but, now that I think back on that.... WOW! What the frell were we thinking?!?!?!?
-
While I cooked and ate lunch, I put in the Blu-ray of A FEW GOOD MEN. I hadn't watched it in awhile, and it's so nice to see it looking so beautifully sharp and with uncompressed 5.1 sound (not that A FEW GOOD MEN has much going on in the surrounds).
I got through the first hour before I switched it off.
Thanks, DR Jose! I just did that. I looked at his site because he so proudly posts it under his castrecl signature, but I did not delve into the site, because, frankly, after his email, I have no wish to know more.
...
!!! Adult Warning !!!!
...
Landon and I have conflicting notions on the meaning of "adult." I'd say he isn't one.
-
Then it was back to the last two parts of FDR (about 2 hours and 15 minutes' worth).These pretty much dealt with the last two terms. Inevitably moving to see him going downhill but pushing himself to make it to the end of the war.
-
There were no special features on the FDR discs, so I plunged right into to TRUMAN, and I got about 25 minutes watched of the first disc. The first part of this TRUMAN documentary looks to be two hours or a bit more, so I'll likely finish disc 1 tonight, and if disc 2 isn't too long, I'll go on to it. I'll stop around 10 or thereabouts and watch LAW & ORDER:CI after it is broadcast so I can zip through commercials.
-
Happy Birthday Steve.
-
I watched DR Who solving the Agatha Christie disapperance last night. How delighfully silly.
I do wish they would issue "Agatha" on DVD.
-
Happy Birthday Steve.
Thank-you, Tom.
-
Other movies I'm waiting for on DVD (I of course forget to check on them) are "Lili" and "Travels With My Aunt".
-
OH!!
~~~~~SAFE TRAVEL VIBES TO DR FJL AND HIS FAMILY~~~~~

I watched DR Who solving the Agatha Christie disapperance last night. How delighfully silly.

Yes, "The Unicorn and the Wasp" was a good giggle. Der Brucer and I loved all the titles that worked their way into the dialogue.
SPOILER FOR TOMOVOZ, who may want to skip this post, or not:
The phrase that the Doctor has repeated with each of his companions when they have tried to "speak" in the lingo of the times, "Don't do that," will come back again later in the season in an unexpected way.
-
And a very warm "Thank You" and "Bon Voyage" to the A Chorus Line Family at the Schoenfeld Theatre today.
-
"Love and Pain & The Whole Damn Thing" is still not available either.
Though maybe DR Elmore has a video with a similar title - or from yesterday's posts, perhaps DR George.
-
Thanks for the Spoiler line DR SWoody.
For me it is not usually a worry. (Just don't say how "Six Foot Under" ends)
-
Der Brucer is (at long last) rousing from his slumbers. So I should get cleaned up some, so that we can head on out for a repast.
Thanks again, to all!
Hopefully I'll be back later.
And I will be scorekeeping tomorrow!
-
That was a not a serious post but I did appreciate the DRs just speaking in generalities about those wonderful characters. I think the New Year will be about time for me to view the whole series again. Also on my list for rewatching next year will be the delightful "Arrested Devolpment" and the so very sadly incomplete "Carnivale".
-
Thanks for the Spoiler line DR SWoody.
For me it is not usually a worry. (Just don't say how "Six Foot Under" ends)
You mean, don't mention the hurricane that killed all of the leads?
-
Of "pain and the whole damn thing", I hope that old fisherman guy that used to post here is doing OK.
-
OH!
Steve just put a CD in by the Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles, "Simply Sondheim"... And the opening track is "Our Time" from Merrily We Roll Along... Arranged by our very own DR elmore!
:)

I wonder if they paid me for that?
Well, it was recorded back in 2001 if that helps you with your record-checking. ;)

My goodness, singdaw beat Jrand to the punch - a lovely review, and now I'm very much looking forward to Jrand's.

I would have been first, but someone forgot to mail my copy of the book when everyone else's was mailed ;)
-

That was during the period in which the New York Chorus and I were fighting; I may have not been paid since the New York Chorus does all the bookkeeping on NYCGMC arrangements. As long as my name is spelled right, I'm content.

I did finish mowing the yard and cleared out a ton of brush, trees, weeds etc. Good grief, I had no idea my yard was growing out of control while I was busy this summer.
Then I got a hair cut. I haven't been happy with my usual place so I just went to Cost Cutters and I love it, lol. I've cleaned litter boxes and will soon be doing laundry
I'm contemplating writing a country song called "Litterboxes and Laundry Were the Story of Her Life".
-
Other movies I'm waiting for on DVD (I of course forget to check on them) are "Lili" and "Travels With My Aunt".
I really do not understand the hold-up on LILI. I reocrded a DVD-R off TCM (had the HVS, too, but the DVD-R looked better), and the transfer TCM uses (and the VHS tape, too) has blue flashes fairly often through the movie. Perhaps Warners is looking for a decent print to use for a master or perhaps they're giving it a thorough restoration and it's just taking time.
-
I'm really sleepy right now. I have to figure out what I'm going to have for dinner. Then it's fresh peaches and vanilla ice cream for dessert. Yum!
-
Guess I'll head down now to clean the guest bath, put away the folded laundry, and then get back to Harry S. Truman.
WBBL.

We are back from a nice Sunday in Cincinnati. At church this morning, Richard assisted as the substitute priest baptized his 3-year-old grandson. Yes, Anglican priests can be married...
We then went to lunch at City Barbecue with Rob and Mary Linda and stopped at the grocery on the way home. Now, we're chillin' and watching Olympics. I'm literally chillin', sitting with a cold pack on my foot. The mom of today's baptizee (is that a word?) is a nurse and has had the same foot surgery I had (but without the DVT complication). I asked her if ice would help the swelling and she said, basically, "If it feels good, do it." Remember that from the '60s?

Hey, Michael Barnum, while I was out and about today I came across a small South Asian/Indian street festival on 23rd Street and Madison Avenue. While I was tasting the samosas and other Indian treats I saw a man passing out DVDs. I took one and it turns out to be a promotional DVD for an upcoming movie, opening in New York City on September 12th.
The name of the movie is Loins of Punjab. It's put out by Horn OK Please Entertainment (you can't make this stuff up). The director is Manish Acharya. The stars are Shabana Azmi, Ajay Naidu, Ayesha Dharker and Darshan Jariwala.
Have you heard of this film or the director or the stars?
More importantly, do you want this promotional DVD? If you do, it's yours, I'll put it in the mail this week.
It says on the DVD that you can join the Bollywood Idol singing contest
There is also a Web site for the film Loins of Punjab (http://www.loinsofpunjab.com)
Sorry to encourage him Larry, but what am I going to do with this DVD ;)

Thanks DR Matt.
At least now I know I've not missed it's release.
-
And now I'm going to shave and then ride the bike while watching various and sundried television programs.
-
Happy, happy, happy birthday, S. Woody White!! :)
-
Suddenly, my iTunes is screwed up and I cannot get my Mac to eject a disc!
This is pissing me off.
-
I watched DR Who solving the Agatha Christie disapperance last night. How delighfully silly.
I do wish they would issue "Agatha" on DVD.
Agatha has been released - on a very nice German DVD for those with multi-region players.
-
Thanks BK. I shall investigate.
-
I have Love And Pain and the Whole Damn Thing on a home-grown DVD - I wrote about it after I watched it.
-
I still have my old video of "Love and Pain".
1973 was my Maggie Smith year. I saw "love and pain", "Travels" and her performances in "Private Lives" and "Peter Pan".
-
I am so tired! Just got back from International day. It's turns out my brother-in-law's mother was serving food at the Filipino table (we found this out about 2 hours before the event). And it turns out her sister made some of the food (her sister is a great cook!).
So even though i did stand in line at the table, his mom gave me a full spring roll (one of my favorite filipino treats).
The place is chaos. There were like 15 countries serving food: Greece, china, ghana, algeria, israel, philippines, italy, sri lanka, poland and a few other. You had to line up. And then once you get a plate of food you go into another line. There was also dancing and music.
-
I am listening to Drat! The Cat! And may I say that there is nothing finer than hearing Jason Graae sing "She Touched Me."

Sounds like the title of one of elmore's videos!
-
Mmmm, that sounds so good!
Colorado peaches are in the grocery store right now. A woman I don't know told me that they were the best and she waits for them every year. (People I don't know always tell me things like that). Based on that recommendation I bought some and they are really good
-
Oh! I didn't know Lolo Jones was from Iowa, too. Go LOLO
-
DR Ben,
I would love to have the DVD! I know of Shabana Azmi as she was a very popular leading actress in the 1970s. She now does character roles and she works for many human rights organizations in her spare time.
She is quite a lady!
Shabana Azmi then...
(http://www.10ka20.com/img/shabana-azmi-1.jpg)
and now.....
(http://www.glamsham.com/movies/interviews/images/shabana_azmi.jpg)

And since DR Ben has gotten me into the mood...here is another Bollywood subtitle...there is obviously some translations-gone-wrong here.
But the saris are sure purty!

OK, it will be in the mail Tuesday or Wednesday!

Hey, you're talking to somebody from The Peach State! So I respectfully must correct you.
The best peaches come from...South Carolina!
-
I think Shabana is prettier now, FWIW...
-
Hmm, no one here but elmore and edi!
-
Is it me or do the previews for the new remake of THE WOMEN look like the film should be called KITTY LITTER?
-
I can see a representative from the NW. DR George. I think he is the only that posts from Washington State these days.
-
Wow, a blank post from Australia.
-

I thought the best peaches came from Alberta.
-
Good Evening!
Back from dinner at Joe's Inn - Bon Air - as opposed to the original Joe's Inn in The Fan. In any case...
They had a couple of "Meal Salad Specials" tonight, and I gave one of them a try: The Rajun Cajun. -Their spelling, not mine. It was basically a blackened catfish filet atop a bed of iceberg lettuce. However, the salad also included fried okra and "jalapeño bottlecaps" - which turned out to be breaded and deep-fried jalapeño pepper slices. And, yes, they were spicy! Continuing with the hot and spicy theme, the dressing was Ranch Dressing spiked with Sriracha ("Rooster" Sauce).
Needless to say, I think I'm going to take a Tums or two before heading to bed tonight.
*One other interesting thing was how the catfish was listed in the menu description: "blackened Pangasius". I had never seen that before tonight.
-
Hey, you're talking to somebody from The Peach State! So I respectfully must correct you.
The best peaches come from...South Carolina!
Funny you should mention that! At yesterday's gathering in Charlottesville, mention was made that South Carolina produces more peaches that Georgia does.
-
Oooh!
And it looks like we'll be having Fresh Peaches and Vanilla Ice Cream tonight too!
:)
-

Of course it is, they took it off the bathroom wall.

DR Jose, would you like to visit Atlanta and remove the stingers from my yellowjackets?
-
My DH says it's a good thing that the fingertip that was stung wasn't one of my 6 typing fingers/thumbs.
-
Anyone know anything about the NY Gilbert and Sullivan Players? They are coming to perform The Pirates of Penzance in Athens, GA. But I think the Carl Rosa company may be coming back to Atlanta with that, so...
Thoughts?
-
Finished watching The Inglorious Bastards. I'm now watching a "conversation" between Quentin Tarantino, who's doing a new version of the film, and the Eyetalian gent who made the film. The first ten minutes cannot be described as a conversation since Mr. Tarantino never shuts the HELL up. If there is a homelier, more obnxious human being than Mr. Tarantino, I haven't seen him.
-

They rent out my charts for them.
-
DR Elmore, I haven't mentioned yet that I love your new avatar. I just want to give you a BIG HUG!
-
Is it me or do the previews for the new remake of THE WOMEN look like the film should be called KITTY LITTER?
I've seen a couple of clips and it looks like it should be subtitled The Trashman Cometh. I don't think I'll be able to sit through the credits for that one. Why, why, why???
-
Oh, I forgot to mention that I completely miscalculated my run route - I drove it the other day and it looked like I had to run to a certain street for it to be two miles and two miles back. However, even then I thought it seemed way too long, and when I drove it today after running it what did I find? I found I ran five miles instead of the four I've been doing for the entire week. No wonder I thought I was going to expire on the last mile - I did it, but I don't need to do it again - I now know exactly where the two mile mark is.
-
Awww... Poor Diego Hypolito...
-I guess I should mention that I'm watching the Olympics. -His face after his routine.... Awww....
-
And I've just booked my return ticket to NYC on Amtrak for tomorrow morning. I should be back in NYC around 2:00 tomorrow afternoon. :)

I am always receptive to such hugs, DR edisaurus!
I haven't seen NYGASP (NY Gilbert & Sullivan Players) in yeare, but I like their leader, Albert Bergeret, and I've enjoyed a lot of what I've seens and heard.
-
I'm watching Chris Noth's last performance on LAW & ORDER: CI.
-

Agreed! And the hug as well.

I look forward to you adding yours :)
-
Hmmmmm. DR singdaw's book arrived and he's read it. I wonder when mine will be winging toward my door?
Interesting LAW&ORDER: CI tonight; I wonder what will happen now to the team of Logan and Wheeler. All hell certainly broke out.
-
Watching the Olympics.
Perhaps Bee Stinger Pulling should be an event. It would be more exciting than Women's Volleyball.
-
I don't quite know what to think about the link that was in a DR ELMORE post a few pages ago. That this person would have a vendetta against DR ELMORE....on a website.
Perhaps it is really Kip Wilborn.
-

No, it is not Mr Wilborn, who's a happily married tenor with children. I believe, from the site, that Mr Bryce is not heterosexual by any stretch of the imagination. He's certainly no fan of my work, as he let me know today, but the feeling's mutual, i believe.
-
Well....I guess I am NO Adrianna Hofstetter in the DEE-duckshun department.
-
Perhaps Bee Stinger Pulling should be an event. It would be more exciting than Women's Volleyball.
Isn't there a 5th Dimension song about that?
"If you wanna see me do my thing
Pull my sting"
Errrrr...maybe not...

HUG!!!
I'm going to try and get tickets, then. GASP! That's funny!
-
I just heard a familiar lovely voice from America on Radio Wales!
-
I'll alert the police and the media.
Actually the police will alert the media.
-
Mom took me to dinner at Shari's so that I could then run her over to Craft Warehouse to find some particular type of watercolor paper.
Shari's must have some kind of stock in salt.
-
Well, I must go and finish watching last night's Bollywood movie and then watch tonights Big Brother 10.
-
Glad you enjoyed THE FALL, MBarnum!
-
Hey, you're talking to somebody from The Peach State! So I respectfully must correct you.
The best peaches come from...South Carolina!
LOL I thought of you as I typed. Not sure we ever get South Carolina Peaches here- or Georgia - the peaches at the store were Colorado and Missouri
-
I'm waiting to watch the women's floor final, even though I know the results, I'm still anxious to see it.
-
I like watching the event finals beause you see athletes on teams that weren't good enough to get TV coverage do great stuff and win medals. Pretty cool stuff if you ask me, which you didn't ;)
-
Is it me or do the previews for the new remake of THE WOMEN look like the film should be called KITTY LITTER?
I saw those previews, too, and I just wish the studio would swallow the loss and not release it at all. It looks horrific!
-
I began my evening watching the rest of the TRUMAN documentary. Much of the stuff I knew, but the documentary does not paint a very flattering portrait of Bess Truman who comes off as spoiled, petulant, and one who never loved her husband as much as he loved her.
I'm not sure until the documentary I had ever heard Margaret's singing voice (which, of course, is discussed), and I laughed as I listened to her singing. Not as dreadful as, say, Susan Alexander in CITIZEN KANE, but nothing memorable about it.
-
I cued up the next discs in another two-disc set: THE KENNEDYs. I noticed that it does have some bonus features on it, but the main feature on the disc is only 110 minutes. The bonus features may be as long as the main feature, however. I'll find out tomorrow.
-
Wow, I just saw a preview during the Olympics for "The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button". It sounds like the same story as the book "The Confessions of Max Tivoli" by Andrew Sean Greer. I read it on an airplane a couple years ago and just couldn't get it out of my head. The opening line of the book is "We are each the love of someone's life"
http://www.amazon.com/Confessions-Max-Tivoli-Novel/dp/0312423810/ref=sr_1_14?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1219028284&sr=1-14 (http://www.amazon.com/Confessions-Max-Tivoli-Novel/dp/0312423810/ref=sr_1_14?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1219028284&sr=1-14)
-
Chris Noth went out in grand style tonight on L&O: CI. A good performance for him. And, he may be back at some future date. I'm not convinced Jeff Goldblum will go beyond a season.
BTW, isn't Jonathan Cake the real-life husband of show regular Julianne Nicholson?
-
Well, I'm heading down now to read for a little while and then go to sleep.
Good night!
-
Elmore, you like quite debonair in your new avatar! Very nice!
-
Boo just brought me her cat dancer from upstairs....guess I better play toys
-
I agree Cilla, it is fun to watch the events finals for you see other athletes and some wonderful performances.
-
We missed you around here, DakotaCelt.
-
I'll alert the police and the media.
Send them to the reservoir, post haste!
-
Send them to the reservoir, post haste!
It's usually firemen and constructi...
Oh.... Nevermind...
-
bk - You have mail. -The second one is "safe". -And, actually, so is the first one too.
-
Well, I have a train to catch in eight hours, which means I need to be up in about six and a half hours to get ready. So...
Goodnight.
-
I have observed dear reader Jose's spoiler and closed the e-mail, which I shan't open until just before the notes are posted.
-
I am glad to be back ... The next couple of weeks will be nutty but I can at least drop in...
-
I should be going to bed but I am reading a funny story from a freind that has me in stitches...
-
I am going to hit the hay...
Pleasant dreams everyone and take care!
