Well, you've read the notes, the notes had a little Norwegian flavor (lime), and now it is time for you to post until the Norwegian cows come home.

Good morning, all! I am off to Toyland, then to HAMLET 2 and dinner with my friend Matthew. whom I stood up two weeks ago for a Fringe Festival Show.  It will be nice to see him and to celebrate his birthday. I am also finally returning his DVD of STAR-STRUCK, an Australian film from 1982 that he's crazy about.  I wasn't so much but I enjoyed it.

I finally heard back from my former colleague on the Toyland projects, who appears to have abandoned us for a better glimpse of Hamburger Heaven's musical theatre wing. Since it's his absence that has kept The Lady of The Slipper on hold since January, I was not too thrilled to get the note. I had thought he was coming back once his show was underway, then it was another project, then it was the death of the project, and now it's a show about to open. I'm happy he's working, but that goesn't help me finish a project.  And there isn't much left to be done, which only makes it more frustrating.

Off to Toyland!

DR MATTH - I especially like Sean Murray in NCIS....Pauly Perette's character's forced "quirkiness" bugs me, especially since I think she would not be allowed to dress as she does at a government job...but all in all, yes, it is the characters and performers that enhance the stories for me and keep me interested.

I've had that Mel Brooks boxed set for so long, and this was the first time I took a long look at YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN!
I remember when the boxed set first came out, there was a question as to whether or not YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN was anamorphic or a re-pack of its first release.

I said exactly those words about Pauly's character in my review of last season's box set, and my notion about that haven't changed at all. Sean Murray is the most grounded of the agents, and I suspect I like him the best, too. Michael Weatherly is lovely to look at, but his joshing frat boy routine gets old, and Ziva's obvious infatuation with him has droned on now for YEARS!

Still, together, the combination of their personalities make it a fun show to watch, and I probably seem harsher than I really mean to be when talking about the characters.

I am going to make a herculean effort to finish NCIS today. THE SHIELD also comes out on Tuesday, and since it's only 10 episodes, I should be able to watch it Monday and Tuesday and make the street date on it.

The two other TV box sets I have are long past due (Paramount forgot to send them to me: THE EXECUTIONER'S SONG and PERRY MASON 3/1), so I'll do them after I finish THE SHIELD.

I got to Toyland to find the 10th floor in disarray and all the bathrooms disemboweled.  Clearly no one had been in the office for a while, and on the floor with all the mail dumped by the postman was a landlord notification that our restrooms were out of order for 6-8 weeks and to use the 8th floor restrooms.

Unfortunately, the men's room was out of order on the 8th floor! So I'm home and rather angry about a lousy situation. Who needs all of this moronic aggravation?

Jose, you sound rather wistful (alternate word of the day) about the end of your Thirties.  I suppose that is only natural; but I assure you that there a lot of men who are turning 40 this year who can only wish they were as good looking as you, or that they were living the life that you are currently living in New York.

Matt and I spent the morning in the garden, planting the new azaleas, pruning, and weeding. I still need to decide what to put on the other fence, but things are coming along nicely.

Back from the long jog - difficult today, but productive, too.  I've been struggling over two short lines of a lyric in the new Eunice song (in Nudie Musical - this is try number five or six), and they came to me on the jog.  Also, I thought of a couple of new lines of dialogue to help the setup, so that was all very good.

I forgot to mention one of the things I picked up yesterday was a new, sealed copy of the Warners Best Buy exclusive World Without End/Satellite In The Sky DVD.  These have been impossible to find - Warners severely underpressed and I searched every Best Buy in LA and no one had them, nor did they have them on the website.  Why?  Because all the eBay and amazon sellers went and bought up every copy, which they're selling for $40 and up, and people are paying those prices.

So, the first person who'd like this can have it - it was list price ($14.99) and since I got it using trade, no sales tax.

Bruce, it is on their website, it is just listed as 70s Sci fi or some silly thing...they don't have them listed under the film titles, and it is the same lame setup at the stores. Our Best Buy had them in stock, they were just not in alphabetical order by title.

Finished watching RUNAWAY DAUGHTERS (1956). I liked it better then the first time I saw it. At 90 minutes it is a bit too long for an AIP film, but the juvenile cast is fun, but the highlights are seeing Adele Jergens and Lance Fuller chew up the scenery as a couple of crooks.

My favorite episode in the group I watched this afternoon was one involving a "super Marine," one who had been fed steroids so he could actually qualify to get into the Marines. The actor playing the Marine had a beautiful build, again very muscular but not overpumped, but played the "'roid rage" scenes very convincingly.

I started watching Bobby Deerfield - I remember seeing it twice back when it came out so I must have liked it, but so far it's fairly dreary, at least for the first fifteen minutes.  But the Dave Grusin score is brilliant.  I'm now listening to Bernard Herrmann's The Night Digger, and then I'll go back to the movie.  Five hours to dinner.

I laughed, and laughed, and then laughed some more at HAMLET 2, which is set in the land where you go when your dreams die: Tucson, AZ, home of my Aunt Rene and Uncle Jay ad several DRs. The movie is really raunchy and rude although I think the production number "Rock Me, Sexy Jesus" transcends it and becomes theatre of the absurd. I had a great time.  There are some very funny things - the Tucson Gay Men's chorus providing the music, Elizabeth Shue playing herself as an unemployed actress finding happiness as a nurse - and it gets crazier from there.

Now I'm back to Christmas music.

I'm just catching up on yesterday's posts.

RE: the olympics. DRs Jrand and Cillaliz were talking about diving being a shocker. Was that the men's 10m platform results?  I watched that too.  I thought for sure that chinese guy was gonna win!

As for DR jose saying i would happy about one of the results. I was trying to figure out what you were referring to???

Maybe Adam Van Koeverdan our flagbearer?  If so actually i was really disappointed. He completely blew his first race. And got overtaken in his last. :(

I would say of all the medals we won, the one that excited me the most was eric lamaze's equestrian jumping.  That jump off was very exciting!

I also really liked both diving medals!

Finished SHAKE, RATTLE AND ROCK...not such a great movie, even by AIP standards...Touch and Lisa had very little to do in the film, while Raymond Hatton and Margaret Dumont stole the limelight from the other players.

And for JRand's benefit, I won't even mention Sterling Holloway.

And my niece (who will turn 3) asked if i would make her muffins for her birthday. Usually she prefers blueberry. But she asked for banana. I guess i will make them for her in a few weeks) so she can have them on her birthday.

I will? I guess this is a quality type movie!

And I was slightly incorrect on the title...it is BOP GIRL GOES CALYPSO. Bobby Troupe is in it, and he is about the most boring leading man ever....particularly when paired up with the vivacious Judy Tyler.

Sadly BOP GIRL GOES CALYPSO's leading lady, Judy Tyler, would die in a tragic car accident, along with her husband, on a Wyoming freeway before this film even reached theaters.

Sadly, Judy's Rodgers & Hammerstein show, PIPE DREAM, was one of their few flops.
I really like the score -  A LOT! - I think that the show could work well with a better book, going back to John Steinbeck's characters on CANNERY ROW. . .

I'm surprised that no-one has mentioned the delightful Australian Diver Matthew Mitcham.
(His demeaner reminds of the also charming Ian Thorpe. I was also pleased to see (on Oz TV) interviews with the swimmers by Daniel Kowalski (sp).)

Now - back to lurking.
And Perhaps to listen to "Pipe Dreams" which I also love.

That's who I was referring to when I was so excited about the diving final.

I invented a sort of glop tonight that was very good.  I had left over rotisserie (SP?) chicken. I diced it and threw it in a pan with some olive oil and sweet onions, then I mixed in a can of cream of mushroom soup and some salsa, and two cups of cooked rice.  I added some ground salt and pepper and that was it.  It was very tasty.  The salsa and mushroom soup were a good balance for each other.

I loved it when the female (not sure who she was) who looked him in the face and said "You just won the Olympics!!"  He was in total disbelief.  It was so great to see.

All is very well with us.  I am quite as a round as a pumpkin, and about as graceful on my feet, these days.  Our little man is due in seven weeks.  I can hardly believe it has gone by so quickly!  Jed is very excited to become a daddy.  We were listening to a Guy Haines album in the car on the way home from his mother's house today, and it put me in mind of the HHW group. So here I am.

sounds like a terrific trip, Tom.  We will be sure to post pictures when our little one makes his appearance.

I suspect I might be on more often in the next few months.  I'm starting to slow down, need more time lying on the couch, so I have more time to spend browsing on the computer.

we met up with dear cyber-dad earlier this summer for ice cream.  It's probably time to do it again.  The poor guy kept contracting contagious things, and he didn't want baby exposed.

DH Jed tells me that he emailed TCB  about a week ago to give him the update on us, so perhaps we'll meet up soon.

I am having a nice time today getting caught up with DVDrs that I have burned from TCM over the last year.

Now I am watching LET'S ROCK starring Julius Larosa and Phyllis Newman...I never realized that Julius had so much personality...and was so...yowza!

I think there may be an upsurge of his CDs selling on Amazon.com this week.

There were four more season featurettes on the last disc in the set. OK but nothing earthshaking. One did deal with a tour of the costume department and the tailor shop which was interesting. This is a large cast, so the clothes inventory is very extensive.
