And a happy haineshisway.com birthday to duskglow, whoever he/she may be.
His real name Russell and on October 22, 2003 at 3:10:54 AM, his first post was this:
Hi, I just thought I'd introduce myself really quick, I've been working behind the scenes with Mark getting this software set up - I'm the tech guy. :) I was responsible for restoring the site from backup, getting it back up and running, and installing movable type and this board, etc, so mark could take over and design it. I really didn't know this community existed before the crash and subsequent rebuilding and found it rather interesting. I'm no stranger to musicals myself - I've accompanied the local community theater (I know, I know, midwestern Iowa is a far cry from New York, but still). Thinking of writing my own someday but we'll see how that goes.
Let's see, to stay on topic, I need to ask a question of Bruce or the readers. Hmm, a question, a question. OK, here's a really simple one for both Bruce and the readers. If there was one place in the world that you could live without regard for money, where would it be? I think I'd live in East Asia somewhere. I like the family ties and simplicity of life in china or thailand. We seem to have lost that here.
Well, nice meeting you all, perhaps I'll check back here from time to time to see how everyone is and make sure the board is working right. "ta-ta".

FOR TCB:
From yesterday.
I do remember a Place to Stand. I saw it several times and was one of my favorite short films of all time. It was at the Ontario Pavillion at Expo 67 and I think it also played during Man and His World 68 ( A off shoot of Expo 67)
The theme song was so popular a 45rpm (remember those?) was released
(http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/d/d5/0_Ontario_Pavilion_Expo67_-_A_Place_to_Stand.jpg)
and to this day I remember three lines from the song. (They were repeated several times)
And we will build Ontario
A place to stand, a place to grow
Ontari-ari-ari-o !
Norman Jewison freely admits that the film was inspiration for the multiple screens he used in The Thomas Crown Affair.
The film won an oscar for Best Live Action Short

Morning all.
-
Don't know what I'll listen to during the day.
I'll tape the BBC program My Hero so we can watch it when Anthony returns. I have no plans for the weekend. It's supposed to rain tomorrow and Sunday. I may just stay in and put information into the computer calendar (old information from a couple of years ago) and then back it up again so my life is kind of backed up. I'll listen to CDs as I do it and that will be nice.
I must begin riding the exercise bike again. I've been lazy since Anthony left. I must stop being lazy.

Work is still insane and it's after 8am so I must return to work.

Good Morning, once again!
I felt like I left my apartment a little later than I should have - I just started taking care of one little thing after another, and so on and so on. But I hopped on the M60 bus a little after 8:00, and was at LGA about 30 minutes later and through security about 15 minutes after that. It's a very slow and quiet airport "experience" this morning.
*Which, of course, meant that some of the security people were getting really picky and anal about people's carry-on baggage. I got through OK, but the two gentlemen in front were firmly asked to check their very slightly "too big" bags.
**Oh, and I would like to thank the TSA screened who let me go through the first checkpoint with my recently expired driver's license. It expired on my birthday - and I didn't bring my passport with me this time. Spoo!

Belated travel vibes to DR Jose! And, a big thank-you for making a housecall to DR Elmore yesterday!
-
I've heard from JRand58; his computer is down and he may be without it untl Monday.
-
Thanks for the info on JRand58, DR Elmore. I was getting a bit worried as he had not responded to my e-mail of yesterday.
-
And I hope that I was not offensive in any of my political discussions yesterday. I try not to be.... and I like both main contenders, for the most part.
-
his computer is down
I hate it when that happens! :P
-
Until the past few days, I had not ventured into political waters on HHW. I shall return to my "mute" status.
-
DVDs this weekend?
I just got the "Ultimate Collector's Edition" of HOW THE WEST WAS WON for review, so I'll definitely be watching that one.
I saw it when it first came out in Cinerama. The train robbery sequence at the end of the movie is one I've never forgotten. In fact, it was so dangerous to shoot, it cost one of the stuntmen (Yvonne DeCarlo's husband) his leg.
I've also got some Columbia oldies that I'll be watching: THE GARMENT JUNGLE, AFFAIR IN TRINIDAD, THE NEW CENTURIONS, DOLLARS and THE ANDERSON TAPES.
Plenty to watch.
-
DR Druxy,
I noticed that you are responsible for bringing Roger Corman to the next Ray Court's show? How wonderful! Perhaps I missed it, but do you still work as a publicist?
Also, you had mentioned Diana Darrin was one of your first, who were some of the others that you represented back in the day? I am most curious!
-
I never discuss politics. I am one of those people who are too stupid and should not be allowed to vote.
-
OH, and PS: Tell Mr Corman that he still has not paid Anne Kimbell for playing the lead in MONSTER FROM THE OCEAN FLOOR back in 1954! LOL!
-
TOD:
Lots of stuff on my DVR...THE BUCCANEER....more episodes of THE NAME'S THE SAME (I guess I am the only one here who watches this game show, but they sure do have a lot of Broadway people on it!)....several other movies that I had totally forgotten I taped.
CD:
Soundtrack to the Bollywood film RACE
-
I am really looking forward to the Blu-ray release of HOW THE WEST WAS WON next week. It can't get here fast enough. I, too, saw it in its original Cinerama splendor and have never forgotten it. I think Newman's score is absolutely magnificent, and with that rather dismal previous nonanamorphic DVD as the only way to see it, any new issues either on DVD or Blu-ray have to be improvements.
-
I also just heard from JRand58 via his computer at work. He will be back soon...he hopes!
vibes for computer fixage.
-
I guess I need to head down now and get cleaned up so I can run my usual Friday errands.
WBBL.

re: the term canadian bacon (ham).
I cannot for the life of me figure out why people call that canadian bacon. Here ham is ham. And regular bacon is bacon. The first time i heard someone from the US use the term "canadian bacon" i was wondering what the heck it was. And do people think we think ham is bacon???

Oh i'm guessing nobody here watched the 2 hour premiere of the new 90210.
I actually really liked it.
We had brenda and kelly from the old series. And Rob Estes and Lori Laughlin played the parents of the new Walsh like family. I really liked them and their kids. And it was much more enjoyable than i was expecting.

I'm up, after some more peculiar dreams. The only thing I can remember is that I was at some Jerry's Deli in Tarzana or Canoga Park or somewhere, and waiting for my breakfast partner. For some reason, I got there three hours early. And my eating partner hadn't shown up at the appointed time so I ordered breakfast, then spoke to the eating partner who hadn't even left, then I left the restaurant. I didn't have my car (I don't know why), so I began walking. Then I realized I hadn't jogged, so I began jogging, only I wasn't wearing the right shoes so I stopped.

Also, you had mentioned Diana Darrin was one of your first, who were some of the others that you represented back in the day? I am most curious!
I haven't worked as a publicist for 15-20 years. I decided that I just wanted to write, and working almost exclusively for Mr. Corman gave me a very nice living for many years.
Frankly, I go to these autograph shows with former clients (Steve Kanaly, Michael Ansara, Diane McBain, Bridget Hanley, the late Dan O'Herlihy) and friends because writing is a lonely business and this activity let's me get "back in the action," so to speak. It also gives me the opportunity to see old friends who I haven't seen in years.
Other clients?
The list is SOOO long. In no particular order: Christine Lahti, Barbara Hershey, John Williams, Ernest Gold, Henry Darrow, Paul Francis Webster and Sammy Fain, Abe Vigoda, Pat Harrington, Maurice Jarre, Gale Gordon, Jack Carter, Jessica Walter, Conchata Ferrell, John Russell, Edward Dmytryk, Howard Keel, Kathryn Grayson, George Sherman, etc., etc.

I know that what you call canadian bacon is the round thing that is like ham.
My point is that i live in montreal. And i have never seen or heard of it here.
And i would be surprised if many canadians knew what it was. Unless it's a regional thing that i am not aware of.

This is a picture of myself with Paul Francis Webster and Sammy Fain. Together they wrote such songs as "Love Is a Many Splendored Thing" and "Secret Love," both Oscar winners.
I feel very fortunate to have known them. They were very classy gents and they were very kind to me.

I'm not faamiliar with that one.
I did handle their last Oscar campaign together. It was for the song, "A World That Never Was." Nobody saw the movie (HALF A HOUSE), thank God. There was no commercial recording, so we used Sammy's demo and started a campaign, "Dial-a-Song". People would phone in and hear Sammy's demo on an answering machine.
We got nominated. Eddie Albert sang the song on the Oscar show...but we lost to Streisand's "Evergreen."

Back from a surprisingly pleasant long jog. Must now do some errands. I will say I have to wear different jeans shorts because these are now literally falling off me and I have to keep hiking them up. Isn't that grand? That means I've lost over an inch from my waist, maybe even an inch and a half.
Just get a belt and cinch it.

I never discuss politics. I am one of those people who are too stupid and should not be allowed to vote.

I just saw the news report here where they said that Hannah could most likely become a Hurricane again before it makes landfall over the next couple of hours. Thankfully(?), it looks like Charlotte is far enough inland where it won't get too much "stuff", however, for the coastal areas... :-\
*One of my roommates is supposed to head down to Miami on Tuesday for a week's vacation with her boyfriend. Of course, Ike is due there at that time too. I wonder if the storms are following us... or finding us. ;)
-
DR MattH - What's up with all the new construction here in Downtown/Uptown Charlotte?!?! ;)
There are some new buildings going up around the hotel that most definitely weren't going up last year when I was here. However, it was nice to see that some more businesses and restaurants have opened since then too. Now if they could just stay open on the weekends too instead of just during "regular banking hours".
-
...And since I knew that my dining and shopping choices would be quite limited after 5:00 this afternoon, I went ahead and found the mini-Rite Aid and stocked up on some bottled water and Cheer Wine(!). :) It also turned out that a small farmer's stand was set up on the plaza outside the hotel today, and I bought some peaches and plums there too.
*There are a good number of restaurants around the hotel, however, most of them tend to be open only during the weekdays - and the remaining ones are not exactly meant for a "cheap, quick meal" on the weekends. Finding a place to grab a lunch on Sundays has always been a problem during the fall auditions here in Charlotte.
-
Jose, are you and MattH going to get together while you are there?
-
I haven't worked as a publicist for 15-20 years.
How wonderful! I have interviewed Diane McBain...what a beautiful gal she is! And always liked John Russell...would love to have met him and always wondered what he was like in real life. Some of those I have interviewed that worked with him thought he was rather cold, but perhaps he was just shy.
Did you ever work with Joi Lansing by chance?

Back from errands. I went to pick up the Meredith Willson book in Hollywood. When I told the owner who I was, he said "You're going to hate me..." I knew that was the end of that. When I called yesterday, I gave him the catalogue number for the book and he looked it up on his computer and it showed as being available and there. Apparently, he went to find it and it wasn't there - which means one of his helpers sold it and didn't mark it down, or he's misplaced it. If you saw this store you'd probably surmise the latter - it's one of the messiest, most disorganized stores ever, and always has been. I know he wasn't pulling a fast one - the guy is over eighty and has always been very honorable. So, I'm still without the bloody book and I'll have to keep looking for a reasonably-priced copy - the only copies available are way too much.
-
I have an idea what the next Kritzerland limited edition may be - but it will require some major surgery by my mastering engineer and as good as he is I don't know if he'll be able to fix the problems. However, it's so rare and so good that if he can minimalize the probs I'll probably do it - it's actually two titles on one CD and one is in excellent condition in terms of sound and tape quality.
-
I'm happy for you, DR Ginny. I have loved my retirement from day one. And every year, when I read all of the "Back to School" ads in the newspaper, I just smile and am grateful I'm not going "Back to School."

Much as I'd love to visit with DR Jose on this trip, my work load is just too intensive. I can't really spare even an hour for a meal which is why I'm cooking in all weekend.

While I cooked and ate lunch, I watched Kyra Sedgwick's Emmy-nominated performance from the CLOSER - Season 3 set. It was a very wise choice on her part since we get not only the procedural stuff and the life in danger finale, but the doctor's office visit and the proposal, too.
Everyone's saying Glenn Close is a shoo-in for the award, and I'm not saying she won't win, but the last time she was a shoo-in, she lost to Patricia Arquette for MEDIUM.

Thanks, DR MattH - I'm looking forward to the first snowy morning that I don't have to play the game of trying to decide whether or not to attempt my 25-mile drive.
Ah, yes. I don't miss that either (I had a 37-mile drive to work.) I'd have to get up extra early on days it snowed trying to find out if we were having school because I'd have to drive slower to get to school and thus needed to leave home earlier.
-
Then I watched KILL BILL Volume 2 this afternoon. It has a completely different vibe from Volume 1 even though it's a continuation of the same story, and frankly, I liked it better. Most fanboys dislike part II because it doesn't have the uber-violence and over the top chock-socky stuff that part I had, but for me, all that evisceration got old quickly. This is much more studied and enjoyable. The set pieces are more stately in direction and tone. It's a richer experience, I think.
-
I also watched the one deleted scene on the disc which was a deleted sword fight not involving Uma Thurman.
I still have the "making of" documentary and a musical performance lasting 11-minutes to watch on the disc.
Then, I will decide if I'm going to start another TV box set to review or watch something else. Not clear yet if there will be time to do an entire movie. I do want to watch PSYCH at 10.
-

Diane has been a dear friend for 30 years.
I represented Russell only briefly...about the time that PALE RIDER was released. Nice man. Very reserved. I attended his funeral at the veteran's cemetery in Westwood. [I do have a picture with him. I'll see if I can post it.]
Never met Joi Lansing.

Here's the John Russell photo. It was taken when Leonard Maltin interviewed him for "Entertainment Tonight".

Apparently there is a big load of nothing at the mail place, so I don't have to waste a trip there like I did to the book store. The book store guy did take my number and said he'll continue trying to find the book.

Tell me mre about Ms. McBain. And please tell me more about what you learned (and the troubles she encountered) of Ms. Molly Bee. PLEASE!?!?!?!?
-
DR Kerry,
The first time I met Diane McBain was the very first time I attended the Ray Court's Show, back when it was held at the Beverly Garland Hotel in North Hollywood, back in the late 90s. She was so beautiful, even still. I was amazed. At that time I was not that familiar with her.
Some years later when GoodLife Network began showing a lot of the old Warner Bros tv shows from the 50s and 60s I noticed that she was on a LOT of them, and then I caught some of her movies and finally decided to see if she would do an interview.
The interview was great. I had a wonderful time chatting with her. It has been a few years since the interview and so I have forgotten a lot of what we talked about other then she dated Troy Donahue for a time...and and Joan Crawford refused to let her be in the same frame as her when they were making a movie together.
I need to get that one transcribed soon.
-
My recollection of Molly Bee is that she had quite a drinking problem. Maybe a drug problem too. I think Kenny Miller talks about it in his book. They were very close friends back in the day.
She was very sweet when I saw her at the last Ray Courts Show in Burbank, but she looked like she had been through a lot in her life though and she gave me a snap shot of herself with Kenny, which I gave to Kenny when I saw him.

This is one of my missing songs from my Collection of Oscar winning songs. Four years only they were also nominated for "Strange Are the Ways of Love" from "The Stepmother" Both films were "What Film Were They Nominated For????????"
As good as they are I surmise that they were nominated 1) Because they are recognizable name 2) The music branch of the Academy had as it members (at that time) members of the old guard and wanted to nominate one of their own.
The other nominees that year were "Ben from Ben", "Come Follow Follow Me from The Little Ark" (Another song that never has had commercial recording except for an instrumental version recorded by BK.), "Marmalade, Molasses and Honey" from The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean" and the winner The Morning After from the Poseidon Adventure whose actual name according to the film credits was "The Song From The Poseidon Adventure"
A World That Never Was was also in competition with Ava Santani (The Omen). Come To Me (The Pink Panther Strikes Again), Gonna Fly Now (Rocky)

Below is a picture of the Ontario Pavillon at Expo 67

That would be the one, Michael. Thank you very much. There was period after it won the Oscar that it was shown between features at almost every theater in town. A great film and a catchy theme song.
-
Listening to CDs today. I put on Once On This Island - I really don't care for the recording at all - it's very brittle, is all over the place volume-wise, and has no oomph.
I've also listened to two Danilo Perez CDs - he's really a terrific jazz pianist - I didn't like the two CDs as much as the current one with orchestral backing by Claus Ogerman, but they're still fun and very well produced.
-
Few man would say "Thank-you"!

I ate a nectarine (not so good) and about twenty of those little rice cake chips, Quakes - so under 175 calories so far (probably already burned from the long jog), so I can eat without fear tonight - I have the feeling it will be akin to the night I tried to be good at Skip and Fred's - there will be some fattening things, but I'll just eat normal portions and I'm sure I will not gain anything, just as I didn't when dining at Skip and Fred's. I'm also sure Margaret will have baked something yummilicious and I'll have a small piece of whatever it is, just as I had a small piece of Skip's cheesecake without any problem.
-
I got the first report on the new LA Opera commission, The Fly. The person I spoke to is a composer, and he loathed every minute of it. He said he could not understand one word anyone was singing (it's in English!) and that the music is just droning, non-melodic, and lacking color.
My guess is that the completely moronic and inept LA critics will eat it up because they fawn at the feet of anything that reeks "Hollywood" just as I think they'll rave over the opera debuts of William Friedkin and Woody Allen. It's just so "with it."

We call it ham. I have never heard anyone use the term canadian bacon here.
The cut we are referring to is not ham! Ham comes from a pig haunch, regular strip bacon (streaky bacon) comes from a pork belly, and back bacon and peameal (called Canadian in the US), comes from the back. In both the US and Canada, the stuff we have for breakfast is usually strip bacon.
A proper serving of Eggs Benedict in Canada would have neither ham nor strip bacon, but rather a round smoked cut of pig from the back.

I hope she wins. I wish the show could win every award possible. Monday night's episode was an engrossing, intelligent, & well acted episode. Jon Tenney didn't always have much to say yet his expressions, IMHO, were priceless.
Unlike THE CLOSER the season premier of BONES completely disappointed us. Throughout the show we kept making comments such as "STUPID, out of character, doesn't make sense, STUPID!" And it lasted for two hours. If this is an indication of the direction the show is taking we won't be watching much longer.

TOD - or in regards to the TOD - there was a post here on Wednesday about posting about listening/viewing non-commercial media. It's been bugging me for a few days now, while I realize the poster's concern is valid.I felt it was a little out of place on this forum of theatre/movie people who will go at lengths to satisfy their love for the art.
While I am extremely guilty of possessing such items, (and proud of it BTW!) it dawned on me that nothing was mentioned the sharing TV shows, whether on VHS or ripped off the DVR and burned on a DVD and shared with others was not mention in the posters concerns. Or even movies "copied" and shared, I see no difference. Also, what about watching things on DVR, it's technically a recording a device storing data that is to be watched later, which is the definition of what is prohibited when recording shows, orchestrations, etc... I see no difference here.
That's all...

I had no problem with the London segments, it was all the crapola going on back in DC that was a problem.
der Brucer
London was beautiful to look at.
SPOILER!!!!
Bone's counterpart didn't seem to do much except flirt with her.
The American girls murder seemed very strange, kill one child you didn't know about to protect the other one?
I never like when Booth gets too off the wall, such as his attitude with the FBI badge.
Silly, silly stuff was happening in DC. What the heck is the psychiatrist doing there and of all the dumb reasons to break up. She didn't look all that upset either.

Well, of course, no one in Canada is going to call it Canadian Bacon! You call it peameal bacon.
;D Whatever you call it, it doesn't look like bacon.

But they are not legal!

Well, I think it's one of the dumbest threads ever started since a Google search would have clarified everything; now let's discuss British terms:

DR Kerry,
The first time I met Diane McBain was the very first time I attended the Ray Court's Show, back when it was held at the Beverly Garland Hotel in North Hollywood, back in the late 90s.
If you met Diane at Ray Courts show, we probably met there also, because I'm the one who brought her in.

Below is a picture of the Ontario Pavillon at Expo 67

I actually saw this one time when I was a kid. I remember wondering about what Canadian bacon was and what their police officers were wearing red coats. Keep in mind I was only 5 years old and the local station was airing in the 1970s.

Thank you Dakota. It's because I'm with two beautiful people (who were cropped out of the photo ;)) that I'm smiling.

DR Matthew - All I will say is that lurkers come from all walks of life. Some may even happen to be composers, lyricists and/or licensing agents.
*In fact, one person I know here in NYC happens to have quite the "library" - and really should not(!!!) have quite that big(!!!) a collection. Discretion is the key word here. Many DRs have become quite adept about being not so direct about their "lengths to satisfy their love for the art".

It's Crabby Appleton, rotten to the core, back for a moment. I think my eyes are beginning to unblur. I can see most of the image on the tv again.

DR Matthew - So, any further word on your recent "situation" at work - in regards to changes and edits?
A measure here and there, pieces of dialogue, pages of dialogue, one small vocal section, lines from "other" productions added. If you knew they were there, you would miss them, if you don't, it seems to work. It's not as bad as had been predicted.
-
I want to come to NYC and see SOUTH PACIFIC.
I could care less about Patti's GYPSY - I would have rather liked to have seen Lenora Nemetz do the role the day before the recording sessions.
Those are the two cds which have been in my cd player this week.
-
I have an idea what the next Kritzerland limited edition may be - but it will require some major surgery by my mastering engineer and as good as he is I don't know if he'll be able to fix the problems. However, it's so rare and so good that if he can minimalize the probs I'll probably do it - it's actually two titles on one CD and one is in excellent condition in terms of sound and tape quality.
BK, were these two title originally released together or are you combining them because they have the same performer/composer?
Good luck!

I am uncomfortable holding any candidate responsible for each and every position or sermon associated with their church. I suspect many parishioners do not hold common ground with some of the ideas they get in church and are naturally reluctant to advertise the fact. This "renounce" your preacher bit is off-base.
If one side is going to dump on Palin and the Assembly of God, then expect the other side to dump on Biden for the Catholic Church's preachings on abortion and birth control.
"Gay conversion" is certainly not an yet an issue in this campaign, and I hope it does not become one.

True, but according to the article:
Palin's conservative Christian views have energized that part of the GOP electorate, which was lukewarm to John McCain's candidacy before he named her as his vice presidential choice. She is staunchly anti-abortion, opposing exceptions for rape and incest, and opposes gay marriage and spousal rights for gay couples.
I'm just sayin'.
-
She is staunchly anti-abortion, [/i]opposing exceptions for rape and incest,
I've never understood why the "rape and incest" issue keeps being raised. If abortion is wrong, and it is child-killing, then all abortion is wrong; and both doctor and mother should be held accountable. Now that is a position with which a strongly disagree, but it is at least logically consistent.

I see your point that it is logically consistent. Still, there is that grey area where the woman shouldn't be accountable for the actions of someone else.

It isn't about being held accountable if you belive that it is killing a child. I'm pro choice, but I agree if it's killing, it's killing

The doctor told me that, as the glucose level decreased, the fluid would drain from my corneas, and today my readings have been 185 (7:00 am), 155 (6:00 pm) and 149 (just now). When I was released frm the ER on Thursday night, it was 392, and it was just under that on Tuesday, when I saw the doctor. It's going down and I suspect the new meds are a major reason for it.

OK... It's been a long day, and I have an early start tomorrow, so...
Goodnight.
-
I began by watching the bonus features on the KILL BILL Volume 2 disc. A "making of" documentary did a very nice job explaining why the feel and tone of the second part is so radically different from the first part.
-
Next, I had a few minutes so I opened THE OFFICE - Season 4 box set and watched the one episode from the season which I had missed due to a tornado warning preempting all programming the night it aired. It was a funny episode, and there were some hilarious deleted scenes with it.
-
I was thinking that CRIMINAL MINDS was the next box set slated to be started, but I was wrong. It was actually CSI: MIAMI which I began tonight.
I was very unenthusiastic about this past season of the show (and am not planning on even watching it this season), so rewatching these episodes isn't going to be the fun experience that NCIS or MEDIUM or LIFE have been for the past two weeks.
-
And I ended my evening with PSYCH. An OK episode which suggests the writers are going to start developing a fictional romance between Shawn and Jules to mirror the real-life romance between Roday and Lawson.
-
I'll look forward to watching MONK tomorrow while I cook and eat lunch. Then, it'll be back to CSI: MIAMI.
-
OK, writing finished and posted, and now I'm heading down to get ready for bed.
Good night!

Earthquake rattles SF Bay area during Giants' game
14 minutes ago
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A light earthquake has rattled the San Francisco Bay area and was felt during the Giants' game with the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday night.
Many felt the temblor — with a preliminary report as a 4.0-magnitude from the U.S. Geological Survey — at the Giants' waterfront ballpark, but there was no interruption of the game. During the 1989 World Series here between the Giants and Oakland Athletics, a 6.9 earthquake interrupted play during Game 3 and postponed the finish.
The quake hit just after 9 p.m. and could be felt throughout the region.
The temblor's epicenter was near Alamo, about 28 miles east of San Francisco.
Contra Costa County Sheriff's spokesman Jimmy Lee says there are no immediate reports of damage or injuries in Alamo or surrounding communities

Dinner was lovelier than lovely. I was very concerned about the caloric content, but it was not so bad at all - we had a little steak with sauteed onions and mushrooms. some red potatoes, baked, with a tiny bit of olive oil on them (excellent!), and some vegetables, plus a little salad with very light dressing. No bread or rolls. So, nothing really terrible. For dessert, she served root beer floats - one scoop of vanilla ice cream in A&W root beer. It was quite good and a lot better, calorie-wise, than if she'd made one of her usual pies or cakes.

Sounds yummy, BK
