What's a screen cap?

Screen cap = Screen Capture.  Basically a picture of your screen.

There are some applications where people will start a "chain".  They will take a screen cap of their screen, and then someone brings that pic up on their phone and takes a pic of that, and so on and so on.  On Twinkle - which is one of the Twitter clients - you can end up with something like this:

While I agree that WHITE CHRISTMAS on DVD needs a face-lift, it IS an anamorphic transfer, so I WILL give Paramount credit for doing that right. DR Ron Pulliam must be thinking of some other film that is nonanamorphic.

Since they redid FUNNY FACE last year (and I thought it looked beautiful, a huge step up from the previous DVD release), I really had hopes they'd redo WHITE CHRISTMAS this year. Those have to be their two most popular musicals of the 1950s.

Title: Re: GOODBYE NEW YORK, HELLO LA!
Post by: George on December 03, 2008, 01:47:47 AM
Last night, we had our next-to-last rehearsal without an audience.  We have a show Thursday night with a suggested minimum donation of $5 as an "actors' benefit"...meaning the cast and crew get to split all the money that's taken in.  If we sell out, it'll be a total of about $400!  Between all of us, though, it'll be less than $20 per person.  But still, it's better than nothing. :)

Title: Re: GOODBYE NEW YORK, HELLO LA!
Post by: George on December 03, 2008, 01:52:54 AM
Otherwise, the rehearsal went quite well.  We're in great shape for having such a short rehearsal period (for this theater group ;)). The only real issue is that of sound.  Sometimes the chorus are singing too loud for the soloists, and sometimes the band is too loud.  We're not using any body mics so we all need to be more aware.  We do have a couple of floor mics and several that are hanging above the stage...but still, it's not a great situation.  I just hope that the soloists will be heard clearly. :-\

So, we have tonight's rehearsal, tomorrow's preview/actors' benefit and then we open!

First class is practically empty. I asked if there was a way to upgrade for a fee. They said yes - for $800. You would think they'd make it reasonable and get something other than ten empty seats, but alas no.

A friend of mine used to bring an "extra" box of donuts, or an "extra" box of chocolates, etc., to the airport for the gate staff.  He always got an upgrade.  :)

Good morning, all! I was up early to attend to various matters, only to find that for reasons I cannot fathom, my call to Fed Ex and confirmation of a pick up today did not register. As a resulty, I am now stuck here tomorrow all day waiting for these three caqrtons to go out. I am both very pissed and unhappy; I wanted t take care of the Fed Ex and the computer setup today.

So, now i'm waiting for laundry and the messenger service to deliver the new iMac.

DR Ginny, for several months, my computer has been having problems ejecting CDs and DVDs: it's dead, then it works for a few days; I've had a DVD stuck for two weeks now, and if I take it to Tekserve to be repaired under the warranty, I'll be without a computer for a week. I decided to buy a new one for home, have my files transferred to it, then take my current one into Tekserve for repair. After tha I'll take it to the office, since the Packard Humanities Institute appears to be incapable of replacing anything stolen in the two office breakins, including several personal laptops owned by two of the employees. The only working Mac in the office is from 2001 and it's impossible to update anything on it. So, at least we'll have an office computer that's working, hopefully, and we'll get these scores finished. I'll be working on the final edit of BABES IN TOYLAND in Ohio over the holiday.

Cilla - thanks for posting the pictures -- I am very impressed!  I look forward to seeing the work as you continue

thanks Vixmom.  I think I can turn it into a nice room.  My mom brought me some insulated curtains to hang. I'm hoping they fit.  I probably wouldn't have chosen this pattern, but it isn't bad and it will save me a lot of $$ not having to buy them.

I ordered new shades for the dining room and the window on the landing of the stairs.  They arrived yesterday.  I charged the drill all night to have it ready to install them, but today I have 4 hearings and go to Spamalot tonight, so I doubt I'll get to it until tomorrow night

The Pioneer plasmas have gotten the best reviews for the past two years, but they are also the most expensive. This year's Panasonic model came in a very close second behind the Pioneer in terms of picture quality and was cheaper. Both give exemplary pictures.

And if you're going to buy a Blu-ray player, let me know what you're looking at, and I can advise you there, too.

This was our coldest morning in quite a few days, and yet it's warming up into the 50s today, so it will eventually be a pleasant day, but my heat has been popping on and off all morning, and I still have it set to 60 (I don't usually turn it up until I go downstairs to fix lunch; my office is very warm at that temp, but second floor rooms are always warmer).

So I was watching CITIZEN KANE last night, and something struck me as strange for the first time:  why is the butler, played by Paul Stewart, so eagerly money-grubbing and asking for a thousand dollars to talk to the reporter?  He's clearly been with Kane for a lengthy amount of time and Kane would not have been tight fisted with his employees' salaries. Surely the butler would have accumulated some personal wealth from his own income (even if we don't speculate what he could have purloined from Kane's vast and non-inventoried collection of treasures and antiquities.)  Why would this man be so opportunistic for such a petty amount?  Would Kane even have such a man in his close employ?

Just one of those things that make me go "Hmmm..."

I finally got around to watching WALL-E last night.

I thought it was very cute, charming, but I did start to get a bit "antsy" during the final 20 minutes or so.

I think it would have worked better (for me) if the humans had not been brought into the picture at all.  Their entrance changed the entire tone of the movie, which up to that point had been very Chaplinesque.

Also, why do these animated movies always have to end with a silly chase?

Don't misunderstand.  I did enjoy the movie.  I just don't think it's the greatest thing since chopped liver.

On the other hand, I really liked PRESTO, the animated short that accompanied WALL-E.  I was laughing-out-loud.

Kane was not the kind of person who would necessarily garner loyalty from his employees.  Besides, he was dead, so from Stewart's point-of-view, "Where's the disloyalty?"

I read the home inspection report last night, had a loooong conversation with my agent, and have now rescheduled my whole day today to be present at today's inspections. Our buyers are nervous. I would be too after reading the home inspection report, which was filled with recommendations which make no sense in an 1820 house, some of which are not even allowed in a historic district, and some remarks which were just plain inaccurate. I shall attempt to calm the waters.

In addition to Druxy's remarks, I'm under the impression from my viewings of the film that Charles Foster Kane was pretty much up to his ears in debt at the time of his death.  His widow certainly hit skidrow.  And I doubt seriously that he provided any sort of pension or annuity for his hired help.

No, there ain't no pie.  Not yet.

Monday, however, is our Annual Progressive Holiday Pot-Luck.  I've missed it the past couple of years because it was scheduled during my vacation.  This year, though, so many folks are taking time off around the same time I'm leaving that they decided to hold it earlier to accommodate as many as possible.

My contributions will be:

Sweet Potato Souffle
Green Beans and potatoes
2 Coconut Pies

I make scrumptious coconut pies.  I'll be doin' some cookin' this weekend!

One low note....I have one (count it, 1) radio station programmed on my car radio (!!!????!!!).  It is generally just perfect for me, but this year this station started playing ONLY Christmas songs one week before Thanksgiving and has not relented.

Driving in this morning, I had to endure Andy Williams' "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" with what I think of as a full Radio-City-Music-Hall production number (!) and it was closely followed by a "soulful" rendition of "The Little Drummer Boy."

I am in never in the mood to hear anyone "pah rum-pum-pum-pumming".

We haven't seen the movie yet & I appreciated reading your view on the film.

We ain't got no Blu-ray picture yet

But do we got pie?

That's what I wanna know!    :)

I'm not a coconut person but the other two sound yummy.

A big bummer: No BONES tonight to watch. Of course, that does give me MORE time to watch more episodes of TRANSFORMERS.

What it means to ME is that not having to watch Christmas in Rockefeller Center on my tiny analog TV, but getting to see it in 32" HD!

Yes, DR DRUXY, I couldn't pass it up for the price....I had wanted FINIAN'S RAINBOW, but the coast of it alone at various sites was half the cost of the set.....so I bought it!

The thing with those Warner Bros. 4+ movie sets is that, if there are (at least) 2 or 3 films in the set that you want, it's cheaper to buy the whole set (on Amazon)...rather than the titles individually.

I'm having an ARRGGGGHHHHH!!!! kind of day.

I missed you have potential buyers & in the inspection stage.

It was actually a very promising looking season (i can't remember ever seeing such amazing audtions). But the people they chose were not the greatest. I mean they were good. But i haven't loved them the way i normally love at least one on the US version.  The judges were okay (jean marc from the US version). And Mary murphy, mia michaels, dan and even blake from the US version were also judges at times (liked that part).  I was pretty upset a couple of weeks ago when the best girl and the second best guy were voted out. My favorite is still around (nico) (there are 4 left). He is the one who was seen in pictures with Audrina Patridges from the Hills (she went to one of the tapings and liked him).  I'm guessing he will win (he definitely should).

Amazon.com has the Broadway to Hollywood Classic Musicals set on sale for $28.49....it includes two disc sets of BANDWAGON and EASTER PARADE, and also BRIGADOON, FINIAN'S RAINBOW, and BELLS ARE RINGING.

I watched last night's THE MENTALIST today as I ate lunch. The game was given away by focusing on the top shelf of the closet for so long. Thus, the big reveal wasn't very surprising. However, the episode was still marvelously entertaining. I LOVE that the show has a sense of humor and doesn't take itself too seriously.

1st of all:  I'd love for you to just hop on a plane, fly in and get all this done for me before I get home from work.  Barring that highly improbable scenario, there's no way "moi" could ever accomplish all that needs doing before "Life" airs this evening.

2nd of all:  I can watch "Life" in HD without assembling the new TV stand, rearranging all my components, including HD-DVD and Blu-ray players, figuring out the HDMI port and moving all the excess stuff out of the way.

Well, I believe many DRs would probably gather all at once for "underpants" whether or not they're on sale.

I had to buy new underpants for "The Orgy" in Reefer Madness: The Musical (http://www.buyolympia.com/events/?details=366)! :)

Not

Mail call:  My 5-port HDMI switcher just arrived.  It's like a plot to give me NO EXCUSES to wait until Friday to start moving stuff around and hooking the new stuff up.

I'd work on it early tonight, have everything hooked up to perfection, and then reward yourself by watching LIFE in HD. Perfect evening!

:)

Set your DVR to record LIFE, and on the "off" chance you didn't finish before it airs, you could watch it later in the evening, maybe even enjoying a Blu-ray disc beforehand.

Actually, I know with a lot of components, all of this DOES take time, and assembling a new stand will add to the mix.

But it sure would be my #1 priority this evening. Supper be damned! ;D

MATT H et al-

I am struggling whether to buy a PIONEER or PANASONIC 50" Plasma TV.
What is your opinion? I will also enter into the Blu Ray Age.

So Many Possibilities

The Pioneer plasmas have gotten the best reviews for the past two years, but they are also the most expensive. This year's Panasonic model came in a very close second behind the Pioneer in terms of picture quality and was cheaper. Both give exemplary pictures.

And if you're going to buy a Blu-ray player, let me know what you're looking at, and I can advise you there, too.

I got a Panasonic 720p 50" Plasma back in May, but I got a deal after deal after deal, so it was VERY cheap for me. :) Otherwise, I love it.  Great picture and (so far) no problems.  But, I don't have a Blu-ray player...yet.

I am typing from my new computer, and the other is all boxed up for its trip to Tekserve.

Curiously, after being told that there was no scheduled pick up for Fed Ex today, a driver showed up at 4 pm and took the cartons.

UPS also delivered my chest of drawers, so there's been a real flurry of activity here today.

Since you just watched the film, please remind me who is in the room with Kane when he dies, that hears him say "Rosebud?"

Well, cabin door has been closed, so I guess I'll shut off this here iPhone.

I guess you don't know about the "Airplane Mode" on the iPhone.  ;)

On my last flight we were told to turn them OFF that airplane mode wasn't allowed either. hmmm

Oh, yeah, technically, you're supposed to turn them during take-off and landing, but, otherwise, once electronic devices are "cleared", then "Airplane Mode" should be allowed (on an iPhone, at least).

*Although, I do remember sitting next to a pilot once who had claimed a "jump seat".  He did not turn off his Blackberry - I could still tell that the screen was "lit"/on as he held it screen-down in his lap.  ??? :-\

Why were you looking at his lap?

I could not have asked for a more beautiful day to come home to.  I'm really loving December so far!  I came home to about twelve packages - various and sundried CDs, and the master element for the January Kritzerland limited edition soundtrack (there's one being announced on Christmas Eve, but his one follows that four weeks later), a book, and some DVDs.  I got unpacked and then decided to get the long jog out of the way, as I knew I'd be too zonked to do it later.  I tried to run more at the pace I've been doing and I did indeed shave about seven minutes from my usual time.  I then did some errands, then had my splurge meal o' the week - ribs at the Kansas City Barbecue - I really wanted a treat and that was it.  I then went to the mail place and was rather shocked and amazed to find my big box o' stuff had arrived - yes, the box that I shipped yesterday using three day supersaver arrived in one day.  I also got six small book royalty checks and a not quite as small Nudie Musical royalty check, so that was faboo.  I'm now listening to a CD (a Michel Legrand/Jacques Demy collection), doing laundry, and soon I shall sit on the couch like so much fish and watch a DVD or three.  Oh, and the second I got home I watched Turkey Lurkey Time, courtesy of Adam, who gave me a DVD of the footage he shot (just the opening number and TLT - the rest will be here early next week).  I've had several calls, but I haven't been answering the phone - I'll return them tomorrow.

Is there a chance you been blocked, banned?  ;)

Otherwise, just clear your cache.

I don't think i could be banned since i can read the site (message boards) and get to the site. The messages just show as unavailable.

Sorry about that, the phone rang and it was Thelma.  We had planned on going to the "Lights of Love" at the Hospice House tomorrow night but she can't make it.

I don't know if I will go either.  That's a long drive back into town and I hate to drive at night. Maybe I will just come home and light a candle in memory of my parents.

Good Evening!

Well, I realized, decided that I needed to take an e-break a little while ago, so I headed out for a bit and met up with a friend for a nice walk up and own and back and forth the Upper West Side.  It's an absolutely crisp and clear night out.  Cold, but not too cold.

Then I came back here and made dinner: roasted brussel sprouts and shallots, and brown rice.  -I forgot to defrost the pork loin. ;)

Since you just watched the film, please remind me who is in the room with Kane when he dies, that hears him say "Rosebud?"

It's been awhile since I've seen it, but I think I recall a nurse in the background.

Regarding RON's comments about Christmas music, I used to listen to our local classical radio station, WGMS, a lot and they would play wall-to-wall Christmas music starting just after Thanksgiving. Granted, it was the best of the genre and much of it very nice, but I'd get soooo sick of it. I now listen to NPR and so far that has not been the case. OK, call me a Scrooge, but enough is enough!!

I skimmed through today's AS THE WORLD TURNS. Luke and Brian were on though not much of interest. Since we already knew Brian had been previously married, the only thing I can think that would make Luke excited about finding out her name and address is so he can quiz her on what ended their marriage.

DR JENNIFER if you are using a PC click on TOOLS, then OPTIONS, and you should find a tab to clear the cache.

That is what i had gotten up to before i asked. But there is nothing called "cache" on my computer. Nor when i do a search like DR jose said.

At that step there are temporary internet files where you can "delete cookies" or "delete files" and there history where you can "clear history".

I have had a very long but very good day.  I had 4 hearings, two in federal court and two in state court. I know the result of two of them and they were very positive. The other two are under advisement.   Anyway, it was a very long day. After work I came home, realized I needed to go to Petconia (that's where I tell the cats they may their food) I managed to get to Curves and then went to SPAMALOT.  The first act was really good with lots of energy from the audience and the cast.  The energy seemed to fade in the second act.  The audience loved it, but it seemed a little flat to me.

But, it was great to see a show, it's been awhile.

I just turned down doing Dr. Learly on Bullshit.  It was going to shoot on Monday, my birthday, and I just don't want to work a ten-hour day.  Plus, I wrote the producer of the show a really nice e-mail saying how much I loved writing the first season and how I'd love to come back and do that.  For whatever reasons, at some point after season two (which I was asked to do but couldn't because David had already enlisted me to work with him on another show), this producer got a bug up his ASS about me - I could never find out what it was.  Apparently, they came close to calling me in last season because the people they hired weren't funny and didn't know how to run an edit bay, but the strike happened, and they ran out of money, too.  So, my e-mail was really friendly and nice and this guy didn't have the courtesy to respond to it, not even a "thanks for writing, but it's just not going to work" sort of thing.  So, I'm not feeling comfortable about doing this right now, especially not for what they pay.  By the time taxes are taken out, it's not worth it, if I'm not feeling comfortable.

I think that is a good idea. Somewhere is the perfect match for you and Sheena.

As for Dog Bosco, he is an only dog, but I don't think he would mind one way or the other if I got a second dog. My situation is just that I don't have the room in this tiny house.

Freddy on the other hand would be quite happy to have a second dog living here...especially if it were one that would actually pay attention to him.
